He was an incredible teacher. Even though I find these kind of classes a big waste of time I actually believe that I learned a lot. He is very kind, a gentleman, and crazy about music! He loves to explain everything about music. There are 3 concert requirements with the reports, and upto 2 extra credit concert reports. Very easy tests! Great Prof.
Great Professor, Great Class. His passion for what he teaches is obvious, yet he is able to dumb it down enough for non-music majors to understand. The concert attendance requirements were kind of a pain to go to, but once you actually attended, they were enjoyable. I would recommend to anyone.
Loves his subject, teaches competently. Attendance is mandatory, but he teaches from powerpoints and then posts online. Not a hard class, just got to be there. Kind of shy but self depreciating to get giggles.
He is very in love with music. If you come to learn music you will love it. Just make sure you are there. He's pretty funny when he makes little music jokes. He likes a wide variety and teaches from powerpoints and plays a lot of the music to really give you a good idea of the different types. very good teacher!
I really enjoyed this class. It's easy, but you'll still learn. Attend class, pay attention, participate in discussions and you'll get an A.
Awesome professor! Easy, passionate, funny, and knowledgeable. Will play some really cool examples for you to broaden your horizons. I would recommend him 100%!
I really enjoyed this class. He gets you excited about music, because he loves it so much. There are 3 music events you must attend and write a paper about, 2 on campus and 1 off campus. There are 3 tests including the final, which is not cumulative. He also gives plenty of chances for extra credit. Go to class and tests will be easy.
He is AWESOME! Learned quite a bit. Tests are straight from powerpoints and Listening CD. He has a great sense of humor, very approachable and seems to genuinely care about educating others about music. The best professor I've had at Kennesaw thus far. Truly a rare breed. You would do yourself a favor by taking his class.
He is a great professor with a quirky sense of humor. He hates a lot of excess talking and will call you out. He uses PowerPoints and the book's listening guide. He provides a great study guide. You can tell that he LOVES music. You will love his class and get an A if you use the study guide.
Mr Dolan is Hilarious. a quirky sense of humor. easy A if you just use syudy guide
This professor is one of the Greatest i have had at KSU. He is prepared for class. The tests are Mandatory as well as going to a concert. It doesn't matter what kind of concert as long as you go to one.He loves teaching. His tries hard to crack jokes in class. Book and listening guide is mandatory. Buy listening guide or make a good friend in class
Great teacher! Attend class he is funny, especially when he is not trying to be. Study guides are excellent. He's really passionate about music. Take this class and get an easy A.
Mr. Dolan is the greatest. This is my first year at KSU and he made it a smooth process taking his course online. I enjoyed his teaching methods, quizzes are easy. Just read his powerpoint and attend chat sessions for answers. 3 concerts are mandatory. It is a different experience going to the symphony! LOVED IT. He's the best teacher ever!
Easy but the professor not great. Online and he is virtually a ghost, takes forever to grade. Worst part is for the online aspect is that it is VERY time restricting for an online course. Small window for online chat sessions and work due (if you work M-F/ 9-5 this is not the online class for you. Discussions, homework, quizzes, tests- but all easy
Great teacher!! He's really passionate about music and loves his job. Makes corny jokes that are kinda funny. Just show up everyday and you'll get an A. A lot of questions come from PowerPoint notes so go to class.
Professor Dolan is an awesome Professor who is truly passionate about Music. Took his class online over the summer and absolutely loved it! Do the assigned work and study the lectures and you will do great!
This Professor is accessible and helpful at all times. The class seemed easy for the most part, the final paper was a little more difficult but if you do ALL of the assigned reading, you will learn a lot and have an excellent experience! TAKE THIS CLASS!!!
Took online. Weekly quiz, occasional "homework", mandatory 2 KSU concerts and 1 ASO concert. Very helpful if you have any questions. Easy A.
Most helpful teacher I have ever had. Even though I am in the online class I always know exactly what is going on. Very thorough and clear. A very friendly and nice person!!
Mr. Dolan is a great teacher & highly recommend him. I took his course online and I was nervous about going into it. But, Mr. Dolan was great about any kind of help I may have needed. You will weekly quizzes online and 3 concerts you will have to go to, to write papers on. It is not a bird course, but the opportunity for an A is defintely there.
I took his online class. He is a great teacher and will help you any way he can. He response quickly to your emails. You will have bi-weekly quizzes, homework, 1 ASO, 2 KSU concerts, and 2 tests. He gives you lots of extra credit. I wasn't looking forward to the concerts, but I really enjoyed them.
Easiest online class I have taken! Bi-weekly quizzies, 2 tests. Attend 1 Atlanta Symphony concert and 2 KSU concerts and write about them. No prior musical background, so this class was perfect for me.
This was a great online class for someone who knows very little about music. Professor Dolan is extremely helpful. He offers many chances for extra credit. He is very fair. Two KSU concerts and one ASO concert are required and reports for each. He gives a great outline for the report requirements. This is a great class!
Drew is a straight to the point professor. I took this class online over the summer, and everything went as smooth as possible. Weekly learning modules required some work, but it is not too strenuous. You can pass this class with no prior knowledge of music as long as you read and complete the assignments. The concert report and final are fair also
My first online class and I enjoyed it! The instructor was very nice and helpful. He was clear on everything that you needed to do. Do the extra credit! My grade went from a 96 to a 102! Highly suggest taking this instructor.
Very Easy Class. Extremely Nice and organized professor. Took it online and would highly recommend doing so. Power points were provided with everything you need. Weekly assignments and quizzes. Two Test. Extremely easy 12-15 questions multiple choice. Extra Credit for group discussions. Take this class!
GREAT class and even better professor. If you have to take music, art or theatre for credit, try to take him! Took the class online and it couldn't have been an easier, more laid back , CRYSTAL clear class with a professor to help you out along the way EVERY week. He responds to any and all e-mails or questions and is SO nice! Take him!
Professor Dolan was an impecable professor! The class was online, you have to keep up with the assignments. The classwork was completely fair and the test and quizzes were from the book or the notes. He gives the opportunity to earn 10 bonus pts per module. All in all I would absolutely recommend taking him! Just be sure to keep up with the pace!
He is awesome! I really learned so much from this class without stressing and studying for hours. I developed a whole new appreciation for music! 2 ksu concerts,1 ASO. gives tons of extra credit. Weekly quizzes as well as 2 additional weekly assignments, not much work, and two tests. Grades easy.Very helpful. TAKE HIM! No way to make less than a b!
If taking a Music course, definitely pick this professor. The only reason why I did not get the grade I wanted was because I slacked because the class wasn't of huge importance to me. I am a nursing major but still could have put more effort into it. I did not purchase the book or learning module and still got a B! Just turn things in on time!
Professor Dolan is awesome. I have never taken an online course before this so I was slightly worried about keeping up with material, but it was no issue. He always reminds us when things are due and all work is totally fair. The quizzes are simple and I actually enjoyed listening to the examples he gave us. Definitely take this!
A helpful, well-organized, diligent, and literate professor. The workload is fair, and he will remind you several times as to when assignments are due. I learned a great deal about music from taking the class, enjoyed attending the concerts, and would recommend it to anyone as a fun elective even if you've already taken your required Arts class.
Do the work and you will make an A. Quizzes can be hard. If this is your first online class, don't be scared he eases you into everything and is very straightforward. Every 2 weeks you get new material to learn. 2 assignments and 2 quizzes. The assignments are easy and got a 100 on all of them. 3 concerts. Take him online!
Professor Dolan was great! He sends out emails weekly reminding you of upcoming work that is due. This course had weekly quizzes, very do-able. Two tests (each only 15 questions), bi-weekly assignments that were easy to do in a timely manner, and 3 concerts. He is quick to respond to emails, very helpful, quick and fair grader. I would take again!
Prof. Dolan is an awesome teacher. The course is very clear cut, and will always send reminders when things are due. Weekly quizzes aren't that bad. 2 assignments every 2 weeks, very straightforward. Midterm and final are 15 questions each, and easy. Must attend 3 concerts (2 KSU 1 ASO) and write a 3 page paper. Class is very organized, take him!
This was a 10 day summer class. You definitely have to work for a good grade. Two assignments everyday. I have a new appreciation for Classical music!
This was my first online class. You have 2 weeks to complete 2 quizzes and 2 other assignments, you have to attend 3 music concerts and write a concert report on each (that is for every music 1107 class) and you have a super easy midterm and final. He grades fairly and offers a lot of bonus points. Easy A for a required course. Highly recommend!
Professor Dolan is very helpful!! You literally would have to try super hard to get a bad grade in this class
This class was my first online class ever and he made it very clear and easy! I would recommend him!. He constantly reminds you when things are due! VERY EASY AND HELPFUL! The only thing i would say was a negative was having to buy the music listening packet for $30 and never used it.
He was great!! Take his class!
There was a lot of work since it was an online class, but none of it was terribly hard. The tests were easy. You must attend 3 concerts, two at KSU and one at the ASO, and do a report for each. I learned a lot and would take it again.
Professor Dolan is great! This was my first online class so I was a little nervous, but he made it very clear how the class worked and sent reminders for all of our assignments. There were two quizzes and two assignments each week, but they weren't hard. I only got a B because I was lazy, it's not hard to get an A at all. Definitely recommend him!
If you have an opportunity to take this class, take it with your harder courses, because this one is a BREEZE. Every assignment was pretty much the same every other week, reading material was easy and short, the concerts required to attend were pretty neat! Very easy grader, so if you are terrible with essays, TAKE THIS!
TAKE HIM ONLINE!!! EASY A but you have to do all the assignments!! He is very clear with grading criteria. 3 major tests but online everything is open book. You have to go to 3 concerts and write reports and also take 2 quizzes each week that take about 10 minutes. Online discussions Stay organized and don't miss any dates and its an EASY A!
He is really good! It was an easy A. I took him for the online Maymester course and it was simple. Daily quizzes and worksheets, some discussion posts, two short papers, and a multiple choice final at the end. Also plenty of extra credit opportunities. TAKE HIM!
Super easy A. The class is grouped into two week units, and every two weeks you have two assignments, two quizzes, and a discussion due. Three papers, that have to be three pages each. offers extra credit.
EASY A. All you have to do is turn in the assignments on time and honestly there are not very hard!!
Dolan's class was easy for a class that generally requires a lot from the student. His assignments force you to learn the concepts (which isn't a bad thing), and you'll have to glance at the textbook, but it's nothing to worry about. Only complaint is the long papers on the concerts--you'll have to be actively paying attention.
He's passionate about the course material and draws from modern music as well. There wasn't an unreasonable amount of work, though there is an online textbook (it's not bad, though). There are three essays but he's really reasonable about grading.
Great professor for music appreciation. Weekly discussions+quizzes+worksheets but overall the workload was very manageable. 3 concert reports. Very knowledgeable and responds to emails right away. This guy is a g
I took this class this summer as a Maymester and it was awesome. He is a really good professor and the work is not hard. If you do the work you will pass the course.
Just make sure you go according to his rubic and it's an easy A. Turn everything on time and participate in discussions. Have 3 concert reports, follow the rubic and you'll get A's on those. Easy to contact and always reminds you of when things are due, in case you forget.
He really cares about his students and seems passionate about music. NO professors send out weekly reminders to their students, except him. Although this class felt like busy work at times, it was pretty easy. The 3 page concert reports were a little tedious but he's a pretty easy grader and you get 2 weeks for each module! This class was an easy A
He's a great guy even though it is online. Responds and gives feedback almost instantly. The quizzes are easy and so are discussion posts. Only thing I disagree with are attending three concerts. You have to pay for them and have to attend 2 on campus and one downtown. Other than that, easy A
Nice professor but a lot of work. Must attend to two KSU concerts and one at the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, all must be a minimum of 3 pages. Quizzes every week and assignments. Participation post is required. Not much of an easy class.
quizzes due every week, all on quizlet. assignments due every two weeks. turn your stuff in and you will literally get a 100 in this class. TAKE HIM.
HIGHLY recommended online. You have to go to 3 concerts (2 at KSU and one Atlanta Symphony Orchestra concert) and write papers for each, but if you plan them early in the semester, they're not a big deal at all - and he's always available by email for help. Only 1 module every 2 weeks. His discussion posts are very interesting and informative.
This is such an easy online class. Turn everything in an you will get a 100. Its a bit of busy work, but it not that bad getting to listen to some music. Theres no lockdown browser and generally the information isnt hard at all. Take this class for sure. You have to attend 3 concerts but all music classes do.
Professor Dolan was a caring professor who emailed you every week on what was due. There were 3 major essays on 3 concerts (3 pages long). 1 ASO concert and 2 KSU concerts. There were group discussions which were easy. Quizzes and tests were easy. Textbook was required but you could still get an A without buying the textbook. Easy A with work.
Lots of assignments, but easy overall. He gives you two weeks to complete the assignments for each module. 2 quizzes per module, but easy. You must attend 3 concert events, two through KSU and one through the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra.
Professor Dolan is great! I took the online class which consisted of a good bit of work and 3 mandatory concerts, but overall it was an easy class and I made an A. He gives good feedback and his syllabus outlines everything you need to know. All you have to do is do the work and attend the concerts and you should do fine in the class.
The class is simple, do a quiz, a discussion every week then do 2 short assignments every 2 weeks. Lastly, attend 3 concerts and write a page about each one. That's your grade. TAKE HIM ONLINE it's even better.
The class itself isn't too difficult, but the course-load is just absolutely ridiculous, especially for an 1101 entry level class. Not many people care all that much about the history of music and composers in the first place, and he will definitely make sure you love the or at least "pretend" to love them. He doesn't really work with you too.
He's not a bad guy, but the amount of work he makes you do for an entry-level music course is just absurd. He grades fairly easy, however, like I said, be ready for an overwhelming amount of busy work each week. His modules alone consist of 2 long learning activities, a complex discussion post, and 2 quizzes, and that's every single week.
As far as music classes go, there's an above average amount of work to do. It's not hard by any means but you'll spend roughly an hour completing each module (every two weeks), there are three concert reports, but he doesn't grade hard.. like at all. Extremely easy A if ur willing to suck it up and do the busy work. All the info needed is on PPTs.
There is a lot of work but it's all on Quizlet. He assigns a lot of work for an elective class but he doesn't grade hard at all. Super easy A if you don't mind doing busy work.
Professor Dolans class is such an easy A class. I took him this Summer for Maymester. Its a lot of work but theyre just busy work. Quizzes are really easy and so is the Final. You write two 3-page Essays. Would definitely take him again!!!!
Took his class this Maymester, easy A! The syllabus is straightforward and he is a very lenient grader. It's pretty hard to get anything other than an A in this class, even in a 2-week semester. 7 modules that have 2 assignments, a discussion post, and a quiz for each, and two 3-page essays. He is very passionate, you won't regret taking his class!
Dolan has a great attitude. There is a textbook to be used but it's fairly cheap. If you read you'll pass the quiz. Discussions are hilarious and enjoyable, he really incorporates new and old music. Assignments given can be done very quickly!
he makes this class so interesting! he does not require a ridiculous amount of homework. it is mainly just busy work but it is actually fun to listen to the different types of music! i highly recommend him, he's the best!
Professor Dolan was a pleasure to have as a teacher for a subject that wasnt particularly interesting to me. He is clear about assignments and due dates for each modules. Lots of busy work each module but super easy to complete. Quizzes are T/F or multiple choice and if you read chapters and his powerpoints youll have no problem. Take him!
Pretty easy course, and there's interesting sections. You can get an A in this course if you don't read the textbook as long as you read his presentations. The assignments are very defined at the beginning of the course so there's no surprises. There are 3 concert reports that you have to complete, which take a couple hours, but it's norm 2hrs/week
Very kind. He will adjust his class for the students to fit them. Easy class.
Professor Dolan doesn't understand that students take this class strictly for a pre-req credit. The amount of busy work and homework assigned each week is ABSURD. I have 4 other classes that matter a lot to me with heavy workloads as well, but they're NOT an ENTRY class. This entry class will consume a ton of your time to act like you "love" music.
Overall the class was okay. Just be prepared to do a lot of busy work. He is generally an easy grader except for two concert reports. I think he expects too much out of people who have never taken a music class. Just way too much work for a supposedly easy music class. You basically teach yourself everything because it is online.
Prof. Dolan needs to realize that this is a required general ed class and not all of his students share his same love for music. Sooo much busy work. He is a fair-ish grader except for the concert reports. This was my most time consuming class this semester and he expects way to much out of us. Not an awful class, just be prepared for the amount of
took his online class. loved it tbh. its not a heavy work load. for a normal module youd have two quizzes, one due the sunday after its assigned and the other due the following sunday with the rest of the assignments. quizzes are short and easy so are the tests(only two; final and midterm). and as a teacher hes very understanding and kind.
You need to like music to take this class, but it was very enjoyable. There are 2 essays which involve going to orchestra concerts but you have plenty of time. His weekly quizzes and biweekly discussions are easy as long as you have the online book! He loves music and makes you appreciate all the great composers a lot more. Easy class, easy A!
He is very dedicated and if I was a music major I'm sure I would appreciate it. But the amount of coursework for a gen ed class is ridiculous. Expected us to write two 3-page Concert Reports, in which you must attend a concert. You can tell he loves what he does and if you don't mind an unnecessary amount of work I would recommend taking him.
A lot of busy work as if hes your only professor
He needs to be teaching music major classes and not the gen ed music class. Ive never had to do so much busy work for a class ever and its all so unnecessary. He is also inconsiderate and not willing to work with you. A lot of people in my class failed because there was just so much work that none of us had any time to waste on.
Fully online- Every 2 weeks you get 2 WS (could be extremely time consuming or pretty easy), 2 quizzes, and a discussion post. Quizzes were the easiest part, no webcam or lockdown, same thing for tests. Only had 2 tests. He's super understanding and responds to emails quickly. Don't miss more than 2 assignments if you want an A.
Very easy grader. You need to attend two KSU concerts and one professional orchestra concert. KSU concert student tickets are $5, and you can find cheap professional orchestras--one person I know managed to find a free professional concert. There are discussion posts, and you need to respond to one person.
The assignments are straightforward and easy to complete. This is the first class where discussion posts were interesting because he did a good job keeping us engaged. 3 concerts to attend (2 KSU, 1 ATL concert), concert reports were test grades. He's very understanding and helpful when it comes to our needs. Would definitely take him again!!
Homework due every other week, three concert reports, two tests. Do not take this class if you do not have any interest in music. I was so lost... I ended up getting an 89 but it was hard... should not be a gen ed professor.
I definitely recommend this class! I am in no way someone who knows a lot about music but I loved this class. I learned so much and thought it was very easy. The course is very straightforward with the same assignments due every 2 weeks. You have to attend 3 concerts and write a 3 page paper per concert but he is a VERY easy grader.
dolan should be teaching music major classes. this class even tho online, had a heinous amount of work that consumed a lot of time weekly. 2 WS's & quizzes weekly. no lockdown on tests or quizzes. textbook is $60 out of pocket and you have to attend 3 concerts. 1 in atlanta that you're forced to pay for. just take art if you need the credits.
took this class online but it had a ton of homework. textbook readings, quizzes, discussion posts, worksheets, papers that we had to write about 3 different concerts during the semester. for a gen ed, it was hard and really seemed like it was more geared towards music majors. do not take unless you have a solid background in music already.
For an online music class that is required for many students, this teacher cares way too much. Even if yu meat the minimum requirement for sentences on homework, he wants you to pour your heart and soul out about a 2-minute clip of a piano playing. Lots of time-consuming homework, there are three 3-page essays about concerts.
Professor Dolan is a solid professor. I think a lot of people went into this class expecting him to simply not care about what he teaches. Thats just not the case, and thankfully so. Even if it's a gen ed class, I feel like I got my money's worth as a student who self-pays for their classes. Weekly easy quizzes, attend concerts and read easy texts.
EASY class. Have to attend concerts which cost money. He gives 100% for almost every assignment.
I loved Prof Dolan. It can be a lot of work if you procrastinate, but other than that it was pretty easy. Be prepared to learn a lot about music. He wasn't a tough grader which helped, just show effort. We were required to attend 3 music concerts and write reports on them.
Grades all assignments based on accuracy which is very difficult as majority of it is listening assignments. As a STEM major i should not be struggling with music as he gives long assignments that are very time consuming.
He was a very sweet guy and any time I needed help he was very thorough and nice about it. The thing I hated the most was that he would not grade any assignments. I never knew how well I needed to do based on my grade because he won't put in assignments for months or unless you ask. It is also so many assignments every week and a ton of writing.
Nothing wrong with the professor himself, but he required you to click on the content, before the quizzes or assignments would appear. He also misplaced several assignments, so quizzes not being under quizzes for example, and I found it frustrating. He would not accept late grades, but teachers should ALL standardize where they place assignments.
"Dr. Dolan" lacks the ability to actively grade work throughout the semester. It makes it IMPOSSIBLE to know where you stand until it is too late, there is nothing I can do. He gives lengthy homework assignments that many times were not even relevant to the subject. It looks as he has bigger fish to catch, and we are just a part time side-hustle
Dr. Dolan's class was a mixed bag. While the assignments were straightforward, there was a heavy workload that could be time-consuming. The use of unstuck study and other study tools helped me stay on top of the material. Overall, it's a manageable class if you put in the effort.
