One of the best teachers I have had at UD. Grades fairly and gives fair test questions. Always available to answer questions and answers emails promptly.
No book, go through examples in class. The homework is challenging but reflect the work done during class. He is available for help if you ask for it, and there are also help sessions that are available that are really helpful. Overall an awesome professor
Overall the class was excellent. He makes the class interesting and enjoyable. He also explained things very clearly even though the material was complex.
Favorite professor I have had so far. He makes class enjoyable even though the subject matter is not so interesting. Very fair grader and works with the students. I would definitely take him for this class and others.
interesting class, he's nice and trying to make the class fun, matlab is a little confusing if you never used it before. overall, if you go to class and do the hw, you will be fine.
Good professor but challenges you! Put the time and effort in and you will learn a lot! You work for your grade!
very clear and concise method, usually easy to follow
Great Professor, goes through the class a little quickly though, the TA helps, almost all of the assignments can be used from the codes written in class by just adjusting, no text book needed. The class is fun and enjoyable, a laid back class. Test not bad, no computer use, all written, a little curve will be included at the end of the semester
Very good lectures and learns everyone's names which helps class participation. Demands you learn the material, you can't slip by in this class
The fact that he makes all of his classes rate him on here so that future students can get an accurate view of him and his classes speaks for itself. He is a great professor and great guy. Makes learning tough material enjoyable. He is also a very fair grader
Dr Murray keeps the lectures interesting with good stories and lame jokes. As a teacher he's pretty good; helpful and informative.
Good professor makes matlab more interesting an more applicable to engineering career. More reasonable on test, he refuses to give you a blank sheet and ask you to hand write a code. Well liked pretty funny guy.
Funny, smart, helpful, caring, dreamy. He's the whole package. I won't know what to do with my life when this class is over. Probably buy a boat.
Good option for the Matlab course. Makes it as interesting as possible. He's very clear with explanations and makes himself available for assistance outside of class. He also responds to emails quickly.
Take him! I know he doesn't teach this class often, but if he's an option, I would highly recommend him. He makes it interesting and funny and gives you a good intro to Matlab.
Murray is clear with his expectations and explaining concepts in different ways. Fun class and learned a lot. Murray is the way to go for MEE314.
Fantastic guy. I would attend pretty much any class he would teach from now on.
Very clear in lectures and gives mostly pre-typed notes.
Best professor in the engineering school take if you get the chance
Murray is a funny guy and he makes hard concepts a bit easier to understand. No textbook, he hands out note packets.
Murray is one of the best professors. No textbook was used during class, but he gives out notes for you to fill in as he teaches. They are very helpful and he explains everything very well.
Great teacher, very helpful when asked, has a great sense of humor. Though its required to go to class, its actually pretty fun to go to class.
Murray is a lot of fun. He doesn't take things very seriously - gives out fake demerits in class as a joke.
Total bro, makes hilarious jokes the whole time. Prepare to suffer minor verbal harassment if you are late. Most entertaining professor I've had, also very good at teaching.
Dr. Murray is a great professor. He is passionate about the material presented and conducts class in such a way that forces class participation. Very funny, very personable. Take him if possible.
Dr. Murray is truly an awesome teacher. He makes class entertaining and he provides packets that are extremely useful in studying. I really enjoyed having him for class, and he created enthusiasm for a subject I was not really interested in.
Dr. Murray is an AWESOME professor! You really get to understand the material in a fun way. He makes his own guided notes that are used as the textbook and they are very helpful when learning and studying for exams. You will love this class!!!
Great Professor. Keeps you interested in the class. Tests are fair and homework is due everyday.
Murray is a great professor. Class is very interesting. I learned more in this class than I have in any other engineering course so far. Homework and tests can be challenging but he is very helpful outside class.
Awesome teacher! Super knowledgeable and easy to understand, always willing to help and explain stuff. Tests aren't too hard. He's funny too and class is never boring! 10/10 would take again
For MEE 321 he has great notes which he passes out to the class. I would highly recommend taking him
Challenging class but he is willing to help you if you need it. Homework due every class period but it really helps in your understanding of the material.
Very clear in explaining concepts. Tests are not too bad if you understand the material. HW due every class period.
Proff Murray is very passionate about what he teaches. His lessons were clear and straightforward. There is homework due every class but overall not to much work is required.
Great teacher. Keeps class interesting and fun. Class is challenging but if you go to class and do your homework you'll be fine.
Dr. Murray makes the class enjoyable! I wish every professor would take the same approach when delivering material. He keeps it interesting by creating a fun atmosphere with jokes and making everyone participate in class. Although his tests are challenging, I definitely recommend taking him if given the opportunity.
Murray is a great prof. I had him this semester for both Theory and Comp Methods and really got a lot out of it. The man managed to turn two potentially dull classes into something worth coming to
Great professor. Grades fairly.
Very interesting Professor, knows what he is doing, covers topics thoroughly.Class participation is inevitable. Overall enjoyable.
Teaches you everything you need to know and even presents statics and other subjects in a way that is clear and easy to understand
Good sense of humor. Teaches from his own notes. He hands out his typed up notes. He relates what you learn to everyday things. Homework due every class, but if you pay attention it shouldn't be too hard. His tests tend to be difficult. One of the best teachers I've had.
A very good teacher. Is very good at explaining things in a way that any student can understand, and if a individual student doesn't understand, he will take the time to make sure that he/she does get it. He does expect a lot from his students in terms of understanding the material, which made this course difficult, but I learned a lot.
Lectures are not lectures but interactive discussions and learning opportunities
Great professor. Really willing to work with students to help them understand course material. Would definitely recommend to other students.
Very Enthusiastic with a good sense of humor, very approachable.
Doesn't use a book or PowerPoint. Instead gives you a packet of notes. Homework is based off of the examples in class. Very hard tests, but if you pay attention in class they can be easy. As an ECE taking MEE course, he made it very understandable. Wish I could have him in all my classes.
Dr. Murray was an awesome guy. As an electrical engineering major he made the class exciting and interesting.
Good professor, makes the class interesting, do your homework and you will be fine.
Class is loaded with homeworks that really make you learn the material. Grading is very fair and Dr. Murray is willing to help with any concerns. Expect to incur a nickname...
Dr. Murray is a really good professor. His class is tough, but his lectures are interesting and well laid out. His tests are rough, but he gives a lot of points for homework and you will learn a lot.
As an electrical engineer he only made me cry only a few times. Very easy with minimal studying. Only downside is a homework due every class.
No real textbook has amazing guided notes. He is very personable and will do what he can to help his students.
Very clear at communicating course objectives. Exams are difficult. Expect to spend a lot of time on this class but I did enjoy it
I learned more about statics and dynamics from his review of that material than either of the classes. Very effective teacher, and very enthusiastic
He's a great teacher!
The homework is very important when comes to test. Ask questions during class or you will struggle.
Murray is amazing!!! He is fun and engaging and makes sure you understand the material. He'll know all his students 2 weeks in. Take him for every class you can.
Great professor, humorous, grades fairly, good class overall
Great sarcastic and hilarious
Best Class and Professor at UD. He is engaging and makes every class enjoyable. Tends to blaspheme on occasion.
One of the best professor's I've had here! He made me more interested in Mechanical Engineering and even influenced me to pursue a Master's in Engineering as well. Definitely take him!
Dr. Murray will help you out in any situation. Graded notes are a huge asset to the class, although the tests are very difficult. Overall, you learn a great amount despite the difficulty of the class
Makes the class very interesting.
Dr. Murray is a great professor. He is clear about what he teaches and strives to ensure the students understand the material. He doesn't let you sit through class without answering a question. He WILL FIND YOU.
I really enjoyed having Dr. Drew teach this class. He was very engaging, and knew all of the students by name. He doesn't hesitate to call on people for questions, which helps to keep everyone focused on the class. While his tests can be difficult, it's easy to see that he cares about his students and he teaches to the students and not at us.
good professor!!
Real chill fellow. Knows his stuff. Really interesting. Love the class. Learned alot. Challenging but worth it
Murray gives guided notes and its very nice to follow and understand the material. He gives nicknames to most students and calls you out! He will joke around but is very picky about giving you points back on tests/hw.
Very personable, invested in student success. Excellent professor
Has a conversation with the class rather than a boring lecture everyday. Guided notes are great, and make a tough subject doable. Great guy, would take anything he taught.
Great Professor. Kept the material interesting and graded and tested fairly. Kept the class fun while still being an effective teacher. Always available to answer questions whether in person or through email.
Chill Professor took his class through a magical land of gears and links.
Dr.Drew is an outgoing teacher. Homework due every class that usually takes a couple hours. Tests are difficult. Goes through class by asking each person a question in the order they sit. Not a bad class. Not boring either.
No textbook but has amazing guided notes. He is a great guy very personable and has a willings to help his students. Loved having him as a prof.
MEE 314 is a class all about MatLab Dr. Murray does a great job at keeping it interesting. Class consists of him coming up with a problem and then the class works with him to code an answer. 1 H.W. a week.
Some of the homeworks were long, and the quizes are rushed and worth a big portion of the grade, but overall it is a rather relaxed class. He's a great teacher for such a boring class, because he makes it entertaining
Class is helpful to see other ways of solving problems but hard to see lots of practical applications. Was good to have for use in my other classes though.
Dr. Murray is a good prof. Helpful in class and generally pretty interesting during lecture. Class is all about Matlab, pretty dry stuff but he does a pretty good job of making it interesting. Homework is fairly long and hard but can be done, good to start it early.
Good Teacher. You will learn the material but it will be challenging. Homeworks prepare you well for the tests. Hardest part of tests is mental math and book keeping.
MEE 314 was a great class with Dr. Murray. If you pay attention in class and keep pace with his lecture, you will do fine. Murray also learned every persons name and encouraged class involvement.
Dr. Murray is very good at explaining a somewhat difficult class. A homework assignment was due each week, which took a good amount of time to complete. Overall, I like his teaching style of having every student participate during the class period. This kept students more focused and aware on what was being taught.
I thought it was a good class for getting a background in basic programming and calculating for numerical analysis. Quizzes were nothing that was beyond the scope or undisclosed in class.
Murray was a great prof. Took a boring topic (Matlab) and tried to keep it interesting. HW could take some time, but were fair. Grading was fair as well. 1 HW a week, 4 Quiz, and Final. He was quick to answer to emails and would go into detail. Not easy class, but Murray does well and is helpful. Knows everyones names by first day so go to class.
Made the best of a course that is boring and mandatory for most students. Was available for help. Grading and assignments were fair for the course. Clear teaching of the material. Knew everyone's name and made an effort to ensure everyone learned the material. Very intelligent and knows what he is talking about. Did not have to write code on quiz.
This class is all about matlab. Professor is easy to follow and very clear. No text book for this class but the notes are clear and sufficient. Homeworks are a bit hard but the quizzes were easier. At the beginning of the semester he uploaded a past midterm which was helpful in preparing for the quizzes.
He is very helpful in and outside of class. Homeworks can be tough but working in groups helps a lot. My only complaint is quizzes should not be worth so much of the overall grade and to maybe go over some things before the quiz. Overall he was a fantastic teacher and I would take him again.
Dr. Murray is always willing to help outside of class. He does a good job explaining concepts and makes sure everyone in the class keeps up. Homework due once a week always takes a large chunk of time.
Dr. Murray is a great professor. For a mandatory class, he made it interesting and called people out so you had to pay close attention. Some homework assigned was pretty lengthy but he was very helpful in class with any questions we had. Quizzes were fair.
Stand-up guy, good sense of humor, helpful when you get lost. Does a great job of keeping the class engaged throughout some pretty dry subject matter. Quizzes are fairly easy but you need to work fast. He's types like a jackrabbit on speed, so if you fall behind just ask him to slow down or repeat what he said. In summary: take his class.
Great class. Lots of demonstrations. Very funny. Highly recommend.
He is by far one of the best teachers I have had at UD. He is very helpful and clearly explains the material. I wish there were additional problems or examples available for us to work out on our own for practice. The notes were a great help to the course and homework helped a lot with my understanding of the material.
Great teacher. Course is taught through guided notes which, if you make sure to take some margin notes, turns out well. Homework is a constant and sometimes labor intensive. Overall great prof would recommend
amazing
If you show up to class and use critically thinking skills in your journals you will pass with an A. There isn't ever any homework to do unless its the journals ever two weeks. There are only like 7 the entire semester. Dr. Tawil is great at helping you make the connection and he always has a reason behind his theory as well.
Very fair grader, always helpful inside and outside of class. Could always help when needed. A LOT of HW, but extremely helpful throughout the semester.
Very helpful teacher and very easy to get along with. Makes a lot of jokes but stays on course with the class subject. If you try you will do fine in the class. Material is presented clearly and easy to follow.
Great professor, on first day will know the name of everyone in the class. Most enthusiastic prof ive had at Dayton. Keeps the whole class involved by calling on you. You will have hw due each class, sucks but it helps. no text book all guided notes which can help to keep you on track and saves you money lol.
Use guided notes instead of textbook, nice you don't have to buy one and the notes give a lot of details. Really great guy, easy to understand, definitely recommend him to anyone. have homework due every class, which is a lot of work, but the homework does teach you a lot and is great to study for the exam. Tests aren't too bad if you study.
Great professor, uses a lot of props that help the clarity of his topic. There is a homework due every class but as long as you stay on top of it you will be fine. Also he calls on everyone, so make sure you are paying attention. Also most topics are for real-world applications.
Amazing professor! His classes definitely take allot of work but he's a great lecturer and does a great explaining what you need to know. Highly recommend him.
He is a great professor. I don't like that he calls on you every class multiple times but he does it to help. He is great at explaining things and truly has a passion for what he does. He provides you with guided notes, those notes are all you will need, I got the book recommended and didn't open it once. Study room is very helpful.
While homework is often(pretty much every class), and can take a lot of time once MatLab is used(but its doable), they turn out to be indispensable. He learns everyone's names within the first week and systematically calls on everyone each class. He supplies guided notes which effectively summarize each topic. He is by far the best prof I have had.
Murray was probably the best teacher I have had here at UD. The class is not the easiest but he gives guided notes that walk you through the material. There is homework due every class but this gets you very prepared for the test. I would highly recommend taking this professor.
The guided notes are very useful. His enthusiasm is the best thing, you want to be in class. He calls on you so it makes you pay attention the whole time (it is a good thing). Go to all TA sessions it is so effective. He reserves a room and it is helpful. He likes to play jokes. Homework is due everyday (love it).
Uses guided notes handouts to make sure students know what points are important while keeping students involved. Homework due every class, but homework and tests are very straightforward. Very good at explaining concepts, almost like he's been doing it for years. Creates a very comfortable environment in class. Final verdict, awesome prof.
Good professor; uses guided notes which were very useful. He does not use a textbook which is nice, but more examples of problems discussed in class would be helpful. He is also very enthusiastic about the subject which makes going to class easy. Also good to meet with outside of class if you are lost on something
Difficult class, but Murray has great enthusiasm for the subject material. Very knowledgeable and explains each topic clearly, relating to real world situations. HW due every class which helped practice what we learned each class. Learns everyone's name and creates a personal relationship with each student.
Murray was enthusiastic during lecture and made good effort to show practical examples. Had guided notes so students did not have to purchase textbook although he gave suggestions/references to books relevant to the subject. Had TA sessions with reserved room to work on homework. Great sense of humor and serious about material.
Explains concepts well, good at helping students visualize how the devices work. Relates concepts to real world problems. Very personable, has a sense of humor. drives open conversation about topics, attempts to get all students to participate in class. Highly recommend class and prof.
Very enthusiastic teacher. Brings props to class to demonstrate topics in real world. Assignments due every class is helpful. Matlab use during course. Makes you laugh in class sometimes. Guided notes are simple and easy to follow. Uses class participation. Very clear instructions and teaching.
One of the best professors I've ever had. Gives guided notes instead of a textbook, which is effective because it's easy to follow the lectures as opposed to frantically writing notes. Calls on every person each class which keeps everyone involved. Homework due every class, and his tests are very fair. If you have the opportunity, TAKE MURRAY!!
One of the best engineering teachers UD has, though his attractive physique and charming demeanor may distract you. He provides excellent guided notes in lieu of requiring a textbook and is incredibly enthusiastic about the material. Keeps everyone involved and his tests are fair.
Pretty enjoying class. 2 assignments a week, 2 tests, and a final. Thought the grading was fair on the tests. HW was graded harshly by the TA but final grade is curved because of it. Enjoyed the class as a whole and got a lot out of it. No textbook required which is nice.
Good professor. The class is homework intensive. I'd definitely recommend going to the TA sessions. Uses fill int he blank notes, so if you skip class make sure to get them from someone. If you're a book learner this class will be a little more challenging. Keeps the class involved in the lectures.
Very good teacher!! Makes you pay attention but in a good and funny way that is valuable for learning! Great teacher at UD!
A lot of Fun.
raw dude
Cool dude. Would get a beer with.
Murray is great.Class is tough but if you put effort in you'll learn a lot.Uses guided notes not textbook- forces you to come to class to fill in notes but also sometimes didn't have enough example problems to know how to do hw. Hw due every class, but the workload is fair- there were TA sessions that helped.funny guy,I enjoyed class
The guided notes were great. They keep the information streamlined without anything unnecessary. Homeworks were helpful and kept you thinking about the subject since they were due every class. Tests were not always straightforward.
Great Professor. Explains things clearly. Keeps you engaged in class because of his sense of humor which not everyone can handle but I thought it was hilarious. Overall just a great class.
Good professor. Seems very happy to be in class and teaching which makes learning and paying attention easier. Makes a somewhat difficult subject somewhat enjoyable. Overall one of my favorite professors
Enthusiastic about material and helpful. Tests and homework are fair. He's the only one who teaches this class so you're lucky he's pretty good.
Great professor. Very clear in lectures and willing to clarify if troubles. Guided notes are used and are very helpful.
Very good professor! Goes a little quick sometimes, but keeps class very interesting and fun. Kept people involved in class, but also called people out sometimes that may make them feel uncomfortable.
Calls on every student every class, which makes you pay attention.
Very good class. Keeps class engaged. It isn't hard to go or pay attention
Very energetic and fun! Homework everyday. Gives great notes and keeps your attention.
Best Professor I have had at Dayton so far. Uses Guided Note Packets instead of a textbook. HW is due every class but this helps out in the end. Tests are fair. Brings humor to the class and unrelated stories when the class is falling asleep. Not afraid to call a student out. Take Murray if you can.
Murry is a great professor. He keeps class interesting by calling on the students and filtering jokes and comments on the side. Homework is a little extensive and is due every class, but if you go to the homework help sessions you'll leaving having a better understanding.
I really liked Professor Murray. He did a great job engaging the class and keeping everyone interested. He also did a great job explaining each concept and answering questions. I loved the guided notes he provided and liked that there were lots of examples. There is a lot of homework but if you keep up with it, it proves very beneficial.
Chillest professor around. Only class I could pay attention in. Funny but not as funny as he thinks he is which makes him funnier.
Does seem a little grumpy when you come in to ask questions sometimes, but will help you with anything you ask. Not a hard class, but you HAVE to show up... otherwise you will miss crucial information. Very interesting topic, makes you feel comfortable doing things statics made you hate because of Murray's examples and teaching style.
Awesome prof. Second time taking him and was just as good as the first. Really cares if students understand. Facilitates classroom participation which is really helpful. Guided notes=no textbook. Uses humor to keep class involved. Knows every student by name by the first day.Great prof highly recommend!
Dr. Murray definitely makes class interesting by bringing in hands on examples. He makes sure to try to call on each student during class, which is helpful in staying focused. Instead of a textbook, he gives guided notes, which makes it pretty easy to stay on track. The class takes a lot of effort, but I would recommend it.
I like his teaching philosophy. The only class that passes like thunder without getting bored at all! He keeps you awake and focused. I like that he discusses not only the right answers but the Wrong answers as well!! That halps a lot
Murray has a bright mind and personality which is very conducive to learning. Uses guided notes also helpful. He is one of my favorites.
Dr. Murray is a great professor. He is very committed to keeping class interesting and everyone involved. The material is not the easiest, but I found it interesting. He offers TA Homework sessions that are very helpful in understanding the material. There is no textbook requirement because he uses his own guided note packets. Great Professor!
He sometimes moves too fast. Homeworks are reasonable, exams are sometimes okay, sometimes parts are a bit rough.
Class is enjoyable. Professor teaches from his own note packet, so there is no other references besides the note packet. Homework is usually due every class, but it is not impossible
great professor! he explains everything clearly. he makes a lot of jokes on students that may hurt some.
Easy to pay attention in class. Has a good sense if humor. The class forces you to do work but with a little work it is not that hard to get an A. I recommend
Good prof keeps students involved. Comes up with nicknames for students that he thinks are funny but are kind of dumb.
For a Theory Class, Murray is highly practical, keeping the guided notes concise, yet thorough enough to provide good information, and bringing in physical examples and videos when needed. The homeworks are very fair and the workload is manageable. However he can seem a little grouchy during Office Hours and occasionally picks on students in class.
One of my favorite professors so far! His personality keeps the class entertained and interested in the material. The guided notes are a huge help, as are the examples worked through in class. Homework is difficult but worth the effort put into them. I highly recommend taking this class and Murray for any class!
One of the best professors I have ever had. He forces you, in a good way, to understand the material. At times he can go too fast which makes taking notes difficult but overall he is a very good professor. Knows material well and very thorough. Strongly suggest taking.
Awesome take this teacher if you can! This class is very challenging (one of the harder MEE classes) but he makes it enjoyable and you will learn quite a bit. Although you will most likely struggle in this class Murray will grade accordingly and the average for the class was a high B.
Need to concentrate more to understand concept.Pretty fast in class!
High quality homework, high quality quiz, I love this teacher very much. Teach clearly and helps a lot!
hard work is the only way to make easy understanding the subject
Dr. Murray is a great professor who is passionate in engineering and conveys enjoyment. There was no text book thus notes were essential. The pacing is fast however for a graduate level class it was not unreasonable. The quizzes and tests are difficult to the point of being degrading, however he grades appropriately negating this flaw.
I took Dr. Murray's Kinematic Principles and Design course as an undergraduate and found it to be challenging, yet appropriately difficult given the course level. The level of homework assigned was reasonable for a grad student, but I found it to be a little overwhelming at times for an undergrad (although he made sure we knew this going in).
My favorite professor at UD. He goes a a perfect pace and teaches in a way that makes me understand. This class is a MEE elective and you have a good understanding of theory of machines this would be a great class. He is slightly less interactive than in theory but that is due to the material. Overall great class and professor.
Please keep every notes in mind. Then you will get what you want.
The professor is excellent, he is knowledgeable and supposed to answer all the relevant questions. But for non-American students maybe his lecture is hard to follow because he likes to use lots of slang during the speech in order to make the class interesting. Plus, the amount of homework is not small... so ,enjoy the challenge~:)
Moves fast, but is very clear in communicating important subject matter. Very passionate and is helpful outside of class. Is also very personable with students which made coming to class enjoyable. Haven't had a better professor during my time at UD.
VERY GOOD COURSE. HELPFUL AND USEFULL. A LITTLE BIT HARD.
Dr. Murray knows the material very well. The pace at which lectures are delivered is challenging. He speaks clearly, and is able to be heard in the back of the classroom. The only thing that I think he could improve on is the method of delivery. Specifically, the classroom prevented the board ( and formulas ) from being visible.
4 quizzes and one final exam. Homework (~10 assignments) is about 45% of the grade but is challenging and takes time. Course notes available online, but attendance still required. A good course to build off MEE 321. Interesting material but probably not applicable unless going into research or R&D of moving machines.
Even though Drew's courses are very hard, those are worth taking. We can't expect a good grade but we can expect excellent knowledge.
This class was fast paced. Dr. Murray was willing to answer questions but not do your work for you. No book which was awesome! It was a complicated topic but upon further study and homework, the concepts did become clear and by the end of the year the ideas seem easy. Murray had good humor and made sitting through class bearable.
About 10 challenging homeworks, 4 quizzes, 1 final. Goes pretty fast during lectures and sometimes hard to follow along. Notes given online are extremely helpful. No textbook. Dr. Murray has a passion for this material and it radiates in his lectures. Drew me in and kept me interested. The material is very challenging and the homework takes awhile
even though this course is very hard, but the class hour is very funny and you can learn more.Take it gays!!!!!!!!!!!
Interesting but need hard work.
Very fast and no much help on assignments with very hard quizes
Very funny.Highly recommend! Good professor.
Great teacher! High quality homework and high quality quiz! I love this teacher very much!
I hope he can slow the pace for some difficult lectures.
Those who wants to take his class should be extreme good in basics with respect to subject and MAT lab is must !!
Very fast and no much help on assignments with very hard quizes and very hard and long final in short time
very bad professor. In fact he is one of the worst professors I have ever had. Very cocky. Very demanding, and not bery helpful. He always say "go figure that on your own". No text book for the class.
He's class was relatively okay, but his tests are impossibly hard.he knows the material well, but doesn't make it all that interesting. Some topics are rather unclear, but most of the material he taught well.Given no prior background in programming, this class expects you to be able to do programming. He has a sick sense of humor.
He is very enthusiastic about the material. He likes to pick on students. There will be at least one homework assignment due in every class. He does provide old exams to study. In class he asks students a lot of questions, such as how to do a problem. If you don't like being put on the spot, don't take this class.
Lots of hard work. Lots of homework. Makes class fun and interesting.
Very difficult class. Murray makes it interesting. Probably the best option when taking this class. But you're in for some work.
Provides guided notes for course. Homework for every class but not hard. Tests are fair but challenging.
Assigns long homework assignments, assessments are hard but if you keep up with the work you'll learn a lot in this class.
Tough but fair. Makes the class interesting and makes concepts easy to understand. Available for help and offers a TA for a help session every week. The guided notes are super helpful and easy to understand.
He knows the class is tough but he does a good job making sure that you understand the material. He provides the old tests and solutions which is nice. The homework was a bit much.
Murray is a fair professor. Expect to be taught in a conducive, structured manner making learning easy. Homeworks are due nearly every class period to keep students on track with the material. Homework is due according to the grader, not the class period. It allows students to ask questions during class time, then turn it.
Entertaining while lecturing in class. Keeps the class involved. Gives a substantial amount of homework that is due for every single class. Tests are challenging but does provide old exams for review. Although, the old exams don't reflect very well of the actual exam.
Highly intelligent guy who makes a very broad and difficult topic something you can comprehend in one short semester. HW due every class that gets long as the semester goes on. Lots of resources, solved HW, old tests, office hours, weekly available TA session. Tests expect a lot but that is fair due to the resources available and great lecture.
Fill in the blank/guided notes throughout the semester. Very helpful when students have questions. He is very intelligent and you will learn a lot from this class or any class you can take with him. The material is challenging and lengthy homework assignments are due each night for a small percentage of grade. Exams worth large percent of grade.
Gives old exams, HW every class (most aren't hard), responds to questions quick and tells every one, sets a signed designated study room time with a TA available for that. He is a good guy, likes to crack jokes and is honest in his opinions and views
Great teacher. The tests are hard, but he is very fair. Homework takes a long time.
Tough class, but a good professor. Keeps students' interest in the class with his enthusiasm. Gives homework every class which is due the following class. Tests are hard and sometimes are more about figuring out a trick to solve the problem instead of solving the way that the homework was solved. There are only 2 tests and a final.
Homework due every class, but it helps keep up with the pace of the class. Provides old exams and resources for study material. Tests are hard but fair. Hilarious teacher, keeps class entertaining.TA available before tests and has homework help weekly. If you do not take Murray, you are missing a key part of Dayton Mechanical Engineering.
Class is enjoyable to go to, he's really funny. There is a lot of homework, one due basically every class and tests are challenging, but if you work hard you will do well.
This class was very interesting and Professor Murray is great. You have to attend class to learn the material, guided notes so no textbook. Homework is time consuming but helps you understand the material. Old exams to practice are provided, but exams are hard but you will be given the material needed. Take this class!
He provides his previous exams for you to reference, which is very helpful to test your knowledge, but that is not sufficient to study from. There is homework due every day which can get annoying, but if you work them all out and use the resources given it will help you with the course. Overall it was a good class but it will be challenging.
Old exams are given to you. Very easy to work with. Easy to understand and explains things thoroughly. Guided notes will help to finish homework which will take some time to finish. Overall the class is difficult but not impossible.
Communicates very well to students, connects with students and will know everyone's name at the end of the first day.
Lots of HW and tests are difficult. He is very funny and personable( makes a point to learn everyones name) and provides TONS of resources to help. If you try, you will do well. It's a difficult class, he makes it bearable.
With his teaching, material can be very clear. The only hard part is that he really challenges students on homework and tests. He makes class very interesting though. Answers questions promptly and to the entire class via email. Gives note packets which are helpful. He is also very personable with students and makes students feel valued.
Professor Murray is a good instructor who is relatively entertaining in class. Homework assignments due every class period, and they often take a substantial amount of time. Test are challenging but he is willing to curve them. He is helpful and responds to questions by email quickly. He likes to use the term "demerit" and has a "TOP TEACHER" mug.
Best teacher I have had at Dayton so far. Passionate about teaching and will do anything to make a Fair class. The entire class is based on 2 tests but they are not Much harder than the homeworks and he curves any problems that the class did poorly on. Class is not exactly mandatory but it is very beneficial due to not having a textbook.
Homework was given every class, which was time consuming but helped understand the concepts. However, the homework wasn't worth a lot of your grade. The TA was available every week to help. The tests were very challenging. He gave all the old tests to use as practice. He was pretty clear when explaining the concepts.
This class is challenging, but professor Murray does a great job teaching it. If you are average in the class you generally will receive a B. The homework can be time consuming, but is not to bad. Definitely take Murray if you can!
Class can be tough at times but Prof. Murray is good solid teacher. Work hard on the HWs. Good practice.
Really smart and engaging teacher. Assumes or expects students to fully comprehend information, so sometimes not as helpful when attending office hours or emailing questions for help.
Homework due every class-a lot of work but helps grade and to keep up with material. Always very available outside of class. Wants to know who everyone is. Kind, funny, and wants students to succeed. Guided notes given are very helpful. Exams are heavily weighted. There were 80+ students in MEE 321 this semester making it difficult to teach.
Drew is a great professor. He wants his students to succeed but be prepared to work hard. Homeworks are very time-consuming and are due every class. Grades very fairly. Be ready for him to call on you at any time, and he will know your name by the end of day two. Very good at explaining the material in an understandable way. Take him if you can!
Homework every class which provided good learning. Tests were difficult but fair. Made the average in the class a B. Always knows your name. Good professor overall, definitely learned a lot.
The old exams were provided which was helpful for concepts covered, but each test is set up differently. The homework will take awhile, but helpful for exams. He is helpful outside of class and is also big on class participation.
Decent teacher.Tests are very difficult and often rushes you out the door when you come for help. Most of your time goes into homework (due every class), but over 70% of the grade is attributed to tests (including final). He moves extremely quickly during class. He does provide old tests for studying. Also provide TA sessions that are helpful.
He provides guided notes for the lectures, which are very helpful. Puts effort into the class by taking the time to know every student in the class and sends answers to student questions out to the entire group, which is very helpful. Lot's of homework, but the tests and assignments are all pretty straightforward.
No textbook, uses his own fill-in note packets which are available on isidore. Homework everyday and uses matlab during the end of the semester. Exams can be difficult, but fair. He likes to go around and ask everyone questions during class, which helps with understanding. He makes jokes and likes to keep class interesting.
Tough class, gotta work hard for a B. Homework is due every class. No textbook, uses his note packets which are extremely helpful. Exams are pretty strait forward, but tough. Matlab is used for the last several weeks of the course.
you are probably one of my best professors so far. just a suggestion take some extra hours to teach MATLAB so everyone can learn properly. I wish i can get professors like you in later future. your class keeps my mind busy all time.
There was homework due during every class, unless there was a test on that day. This let me keep up with the material and made sure that I was practicing it as I learned it. The load of homework was proportional to the amount of material, but it could be a lot to handle. The tests are difficult, but fair. He aims for the average to be a B.
Generally, he is a good prof. He so clear to understand in class. His notes is so good to use. However, you will do too many assignments with him with very long problems. Grading is so tough, but he curves grades for few points
Hard class good teacher
great teacher but tough class
Very good, extremely helpful professor. Relates to students very well. Assignments can be time consuming but they are valuable to help learn the material.
Took the time to learn every students name. Very responsive and approachable. A lot of fun in class. He is very fair in grading, but the class can be pretty technical and challenging. You will have to come to class though its not mandatory and will need to pay attention. Every MEE major should take!
I did this before i got my grade. im guessing i have a B maybe a B- or a C
Homework is tough but professor is very good. Curves final grades. Class can be boring but need to go to understand homework.
Murray is cool professor and great teacher. This course is tuff but he really helps you understand. All old exams are already posted online. Sucks you only have two exams. Can find homework solutions from previous semester's and good t.a.'s
Use guided notes in class instead of textbook, definitely helpful to fill out in class. Exam database is extremely useful. He learns the first names of all students. Brings in different mechanisms to help demonstrate particular concepts. The material is also explained extremely well. I would definitely recommend this professor to all students.
Great professor. We used guided notes in his class, which was nice. He was always responsive to questions via email. All the old exams are available online for study. He also learned and used every persons first name. Good at getting students to participate in class. He posted fully worked solutions to homework and tests. Only two tests, though.
Murray will call on every student during every class period. He uses it as a way to keep the class engaged, but it can be very uncomfortable for a student if they do not know the answer. He does not realize that it can feel demeaning at times.
He is a funny guy, very helpful if you ask for it but he may tease you. Has note packets which are very helpful and no book. Posts old tests and homeworks for study purposes. Overall very good professor in my opinion and very fair in assignments and tests.
Drew is an excellent professor who teaches a challenging subject. He challenges students through difficult assignments and exams. Unfortunately there are only 2 exams and a final which make up almost 80% of the grade. However, he is very knowledgeable, enthusiastic and willing to answer all of students questions in and out of class;Very entertaing
Great prof. He teaches exactly what he tests, and is extremely helpful. Encourages (or enforces) class participation which helps everyone understand the material better. It's a tough course but I couldn't think of a better method to teach it. Don't be scared by his frequent use of demerits, he's just bitter about not having a full head of hair.
Take him if you can. As long as you go to class (pay attention) and do the homework, you should be fine. He has guided notes in class so it's easy to follow what he is doing. The only bad thing that I can think of is that the pacing is sometimes a little bit fast, but he will explain it if you ask. Other than that, he's a great guy.
Great professor. I showed up late to exam and received an email immediately reminding me we had an exam today. Wanted everyone to succeed in class, and was always available (by email) to answer questions.
Guided Notes are very helpful, also allows you to not buy a textbook which is nice. Questioning pattern, by bouncing around the room, is interesting and a good way of engaging students. Class pace increased throughout the semester, which was unfortunate.
Wants to help everyone for them to succeed. Goes around room to get everyone involved. Does everything on his end for you to succeed in the class. He understands that the class can be hard for some people and works to help them through it.
Takes time to learn everyone's name and likes to joke around with his students, and makes them participate. Hw everyday and some of it is very lengthy. Tests are straight forward, but some problems are very in depth. Overall very fair with grading and cares whether you know the material. Notes really help prepare for tests. So far, my favorite prof
Very good professor. He uses a guided note packet as a text that works well and contains many helpful examples. He is not afraid to speak his mind and will call you out for skipping class or not paying attention (often using a sarcastic nickname). His exams are difficult but are made to challenge and he will curve. TAKE HIM!
Tests are very difficult and homework is difficult and extensive but he teaches very well and I learned a lot. He made the class interesting, he learns your name, and he is very funny. He is also VERY sarcastic and has no problem making fun of anyone and everyone. If he thinks you are asking a dumb question his answer will be sarcastic as hell.
Explains things really well. Tests are hard but fair. Is able to keep attention by knowing everyone's name and keeping everything light-hearted.
Overall Dr. Murray is a great professor. He replaces a textbook with very helpful guided notes. Homework is due every class period. He gives two exams worth 22% each. He has a good sense of humor, but don't be late or he will call you out.
Great professor. Homework takes a long time. Test are difficult but fair. If you take the time to do the homework you will do well. Class time is interesting and engaging. Very funny professor if you can handle crude humor.
He is a very good teacher. He is a difficult teacher though, you have to work hard. You get homework due every class. He doesn't take attendance but learns every name in first week & will always notice who is not there and point it out. He is a funny guy so he keeps the class interesting. He picks on people sometimes but its funny. You learn a lot
If you're looking for an easy A, this is not the class for you. Then again, neither is mechanical engineering. If you're looking to actually learn something and enjoy going to class, then Drew in MEE 321 is a good choice. You'll curse him while doing the homework which is time consuming and difficult, but in the end you can say you learned a lot.
Murray's note packet helps tremendously. No textbook purchase required. Teaches extremely quickly!Sometimes impossible to follow. Very grumpy if you come to his office hours. He only gives 2 exams (which are really difficult) and a final (death on paper). Homework due at every class. Makes fun of students on the regular. Course content interesting.
Great Teacher! Very passionate and Intelligent! Tests are hard but the class is curved at the end. He does not take attendance, but all of the material is taught in class and there is no textbook so you basically need to go to class.
Always willing to help explain concepts and learns everybody's name. The guided notes have a very good structure. If you put in the time, he gives you all the tools you need to succeed.
Great teacher, i did ok in this class but if i had put more effort in i would have done better. if you put the work in you will do well. he is very helpful.
exams and homework are hard. Trying so hard to explain the material ;however, it is intense. Post old exams.
Guided notes, great availability and responds to emails quickly, fast paced class but he will take time to explain the content if the class has questions. Keeps class light yet focused. Only problems are he is very busy and tends to smell like mothballs.
Dr. Murray is extremely helpful in and out of class. He posts all of the homework assignments and exams afterwards so that you can go over them. He is always available in his office to help with anything you need. His class is tough because the material is demanding; however he gives you everything you need to succeed and learn the material.
Nobody likes to take this class because it is challenging. Dr. Murray knows this and tries to sympathize with students on this fact. Work on MATLAB everyday working through projects that he helps you through to learn various techniques.
He makes assignments into games which are fun. 10/10 would take again.
This class is awful! Murray is impossible to follow. He writes code super fast and doesn't explain anything he's doing. His quizzes are over different material than he's teaching. It's hard to get partial credit on the quizzes. Homework assignments (writing code) are due once a week.
Program EVERY day. Very valuable in learning basic programming and in practical applications for engineering. However everyone hates this class, students, teachers, zombies etc. However he is very enthusiastic and makes it as learn-able as I believe possible. Building of games makes the beginning interesting. HW due once a week, create code.
Great professor teaching an extremely tough course. Stay with the speed of the class, focus, and practice. He provides all the tools to succeed.
Great MATLAB prof! Recommend taking him over the other options. Makes a boring topic fun and somewhat interesting.
Drew comes out and says that we hate the class and he hates teaching it which I like. He admits that MatLab is impossible to teach, trying to walk us through it. Still, I had no idea what was going on half the time and struggled through the homework. Quizzes were tricky but not too hard. This is one of those classes you just have to suck up and do.
MEE 314 is a difficult class that no one really wants to take. Murray makes this class bearable and informative. We spend essentially everyday programming, but the skills learned in this class will be useful for future classes. I recommend Murray not because he is extremely easy, but because he is a good teacher that will help you and teach you.
Overall a great professor. There were 4 30 min quizzes over the course of the semester. Matlab was used everyday in class. He does a great job teaching such a difficult class to teach. You learn a good deal of Matlab during the semester. Homework is due every Tuesday. They are difficult but doable. Overall a great class to take.
Homework was hard, grading was fair. Made class interesting
DrMurray is a very intelligent professor and knows Mat-Lab very well. Sometimes he can blow past you but he will slow down if he is asked. Very helpful and would definitely recommend him to anyone.
Drew...I mean Dr. Murray... Is not only an entertaining professor, but a good one at that. He likes to pick on people but in a fathersome way that is rather hilarious at times. He also likes to reference old movies that are years before our time. Murray is an overall great professor with a passion for teaching.
MATLAB is a very hard program both to use and to learn. But Dr. Murray is a great professor who really tries to help everyone succeed. He keeps class engaging, all things considered, and the homework can be difficult but if you persevere and talk to him he's always more than willing to help. He is very quick in responding to emails and helps a lot
Murray is the bee's knees. He is super swaggin and a must-take for this class. The homeworks were a bit tricky at times, but working with others helped a ton. MATLAB is a doozie of a subject, but Murray teaches it well. I highly recommend this man for your teaching pleasure.
MATLAB isn't fun from the start but Murray tries to make the class interesting and as easy as possible, some of the hw are pretty difficult. Quizzes are pretty straight forward and build off each other.
MEE 314 is a class that most students do not enjoy taking. Writing code sucks....But Dr. Murray understands this and makes a sour topic enjoyable. We wrote code for applications that were fun and interesting (Slot machine and weighted coins). Homework assignment every week and a few were very challenging. 4 30 min quizes and a final
Computational Methods is a hard class to learn and a hard class to teach. Dr. Murray did his best to make it challenging but doable for everyone--including both programming wizards and novices. I am terrible at programming but I still feel like I gained a fair amount of knowledge from the class.
Great guy, knows his material really well. Homework was due weekly, which was sometimes difficult with a full engineering load, but nothing that wasn't manageable. Quizzes weren't too difficult, but not easy either. Tries to make the programs fun even though the material itself is dry. Highly recommended.
Very good professor! He makes learning MatLab (which is the curriculum of the course) as easy as it can be. Homeworks are hard but there are help sessions available. Murray is a great professor and he is smokin' hot!!
we did programming in class but the tests aren't based on writing code. it would be more helpful if the teaching reflected the style of the tests more.
Drew has an awesome sense of humor and is able to turn an unbelievable dry subject into one that is bearable. Homework assignments took a while, and were difficult but they directly applied to the material taught in class.
He makes MatLab very bearable. This class could be brutal, but he makes it a fairly enjoyable class. He goes over programming in class and homeworks are due once a week and are mostly based on class. There are 4 quizes and a final that are on paper so they aren't to bad. Overall very good and I would take him again!
I like him as a professor.
Hard class but made it easier to understand. Homework takes forever
Dr. Murray is a good professor and makes class interesting. Homeworks are somewhat lengthy and can be hard. If you have to take this class take Dr. Murray.
The class overall was enjoyable, but the homework was very difficult most of the time. The jump between classwork and homework was often to large.
Homeworks were very difficult if you just cannot grasp matlab code. Going to homework sessions is a must to get homework done. Types very very fast so its hard to keep up if you're a slow typer. Quizzes were fair. Fun professor for a miserable class
Dr. Murray knows the material and is a very funny and nice guy. If you aren't computer savvy you will feel like he's speaking a different language at points. Go to the help sessions and ask questions in class.
While Matlab is an extremely boring program Dr. Murray does an excellent job of making the material much more interesting. While not explicitly giving real world uses of matlab the connections can be seen in the classroom. The homework can be difficult but Dr. Murray and the TA are very helpful. Overall I would recommend this class.
Calls on everyone at least once in each class period. Pay attention or he will call you out. Funny guy. DOES NOT ACCEPT LATE HOMEWORK! I mean like even 5 minutes late. It's ridiculous. The class is fun, just don't get behind!
Ploughing through the field of Theory of Machines. Honestly, hands down, the best professor I have ever taken. He is hilarious and honestly cares how you do in the class. Quizzes and test are not easy, but that is because he is trying to challenge you, not because he presents the material poorly. BADANGO!
I took Theory of Machines over the summer as a 6 week course. Although the course was completely crammed, Dr. Murray cared about every student learning and understanding the material. Even though it was a tough 6 weeks, I would absolutely take this class again.
A really smart professor and willing to explain things multiple times to students until they understand. I took his theory of machine class couple of semesters ago, and I really learned a lot. My average grade in class was a "B" before the final, but for some reason it turned into a "C" some student with worse grades passed with a B-. He's Unfair!
Great prof. Keeps you really engaged. Expect alot of hw, but very interesting class. Take this guy!
He's a funny guy and gives good lectures but the class is tough. Do all the homeworks and keep up with whats being talked about in class and you'll be okay
Dr. Murray's class is not the easiest, but he engages his students with good lectures and hilarious snarky comments. Great teacher.
Down to earth guy. Teaches with guided notes during lectures (no book) which is helpful. Tests are tough. Homework due every class.
Really good and entertaining professor. Lectures are never boring, and you will learn tons if you just pay attention at all. Lots of homeworks, as well as semi difficult tests, but no need to freak out about. Overall, he cares for his students and feels like a friend while also teaching the material as well as any professor I've had.
Smart teacher that can answer any questions you may pose. He often makes mean comments though, but he can take the comments back at him too. The class is tough and has a lot of homework. 2-3hrs per night 3 nights per week, so this can be a lot.
You will learn so much and finally enjoy mechanical engineering. You will have homeworks due every class, but they are to help you. Tests are fair besides the final which he curves. Not an easy A but take Murray because you will love it.
Awesome professor. I was considering dropping engineering but Dr. Murray's humor and enthusiasm for this course kept me interested and motivated. I would recommend him to anyone. Not the easiest course but worth taking.
Dr. Murray is my favorite teacher to date. He uses guided notes, so you don't have to buy a book and his lectures are very straight forward. There was homework every night which was time consuming, but at the end of the semester helped so much. Also, he is HILARIOUS. I was laughing every class. Expect to work for your grades, but much worth it.
Murray is a really good guy and a good teacher. Knows the material very well and knows how to relate to students to help them learn the material.
He is a nice dude in general, but he is too much. lots of HW
Dr. Murray actually makes coming to class fun! He is so funny and GREAT at explaining things. He makes complex ideas so clear. I loved having him! There was daily homework and the tests were rough. But the homework is really the only way to learn something like this. Cares about every student and knew all of our names in like 3 classes. A real gem!
No book is needed, there are guided notes. There is homework due almost every class but there are TA sessions multiple times a week that are SO helpful. He provides previous tests so you know what to expect when you're studying. He's a little rough around the edges but I thought he was a great teacher. *Don't be late to class*
Dr. Murray is hilarious and makes it a lot easier to pay attention all class. There is a ton of homework in this class and it gets quite difficult. Go to the TA sessions and you'll be fine. Tests are difficult if you don't study a lot but the averages are typically pretty high.
I don't know
This is the best class I have taken at UD. Best engineering class. I am honestly engaged while in class and Drew Murray is also hilarious. Best teacher I have had at UD. The homework is frequent but going to the TA sessions helps and there are a lot of resources for studying for the exams
Take him. It's so refreshing to have a professor that teaches like a normal human being. He's blunt, honest, funny, corny... the whole deal. He can come off a little too rough at times, but there's no ill intent. Homework is due every class, but it's not usually that much and the grading is fair.
I did not like drew. He is a total jerk.
Kind of quirky, kind of swag. Overall, good prof
Homework due every class and it can be long. First exam is hard but the rest get easier. He only gives you 20 min to do your exams. Tends to make fun of people with good hair since he doesn't have any.
Murray was a tough critic. So much homework- packets due every class. Exams were okay until the final. The final was the hardest exam I've taken in my life and I studied for WEEKS. Dropped my final grade even though he said it wouldn't.
Really enjoyed taking this class with Dr. Murray. His lectures are very interactive, and the content is presented in a very interesting fashion (He once brought in a manual car transmission to demonstrate gear sets). His exams are a little challenging, but clear feedback before hand. Only complaint is a lot of homework, but otherwise he's great.
Dr. Murray is a great professor. He makes his lectures as interactive as possible and explains the material really well. The exams were tough with the time constraint but he gives you plenty of prep material. My main complaint is he assigns a lot of hw, and some of them are pretty long. Great guy overall and would recommend still.
Genuinely one of my favorite professors. He was funny but still taught the material well. He kept the class interesting and engaging. He also gave us guided notes for us. There was a lot of work but his and the TA's office hours were very helpful. I definitely would recommend him to other students.
