He taught the 1 credit technical writing portion of the class. He is willing to help in any way that he can. He is very understanding and wants students to succeed. Very nice guy. Seems to enjoy teaching.
Drew was technically a Graduate TA when I had him but still he best teacher I've ever had. I don't think he teaches the course anymore but I'm sure he would be great at any course. He is caring and extremely knowledgeable. You will not regret taking a course with him.
Drew is caring and amazing professor who cares that his students are learning the material. His lectures are interactive and make it worth attending. The homeworks were long but there were few of them and they prepared me for the midterms and final. He was super helpful in office hours and I would highly recommend taking any class with Drew.
I highly recommend taking any course taught by Drew. He is an outstanding instructor who dedicates considerable time outside of class to ensure his students' success. I attended his ECE 2060 summer course, which moved at a faster pace. But Drew made the class manageable and inspiring. I have nothing but praise for his approach and commitment.
Drew is really friendly and helpful during office hours. He is organized and gives good lectures. He is one of the best instructors in the department. He explains concepts very clearly.
I took the ECE 2360 course with him. It was his first semester teaching it, and for that reason it wasn't the greatest of experiences. He used Canvas for attendance surveys, but he wasn't the fastest grader compared to other professors for homework and quizzes. But other than that, he's fantastic and everyone should try to take the class with him.
Drew is a good professor but he has not graded anything for our capstone class the last grade he put in was two months ago and we are taking finals right now. This is really annoying what is the point of turning in a draft if we are not going to get feedback by the time it is due.
I had Drew for 3561 he does an excellent job of explaining things and teaching the information. But he has submitted only a handful of grades. We are taking his final in 3 days and he hasn't graded any of the homework, Midterm 2, and the projects. I get professors have a lot of stuff to do but this is ridiculous.
The final exam is tomorrow and he has graded a single assignment this entire semester. This is just beyond ridiculous. He is a decent lecturer and educator but not only are his exams way too long for the time provided, and you will have zero clue what your grade is until your final grade goes in which is frankly lazy and rude to students.
Hands down the best professor I have had at this University
No grades because no grader not his fault
He makes the class harder for no reason and does not grade homeworks for the longest time. Very strict in grading.
Awful professor
why are we taking attendance for a 300+ person lecture bruh. also takes years to grade homework and gives homework that sucks to complete. sadly I must give a 1/5 because I couldn't go lower
Goes out of his way to make the class harder than it should be
lots of homework and prequizes. He makes the class harder than it should be!
He is not a good teacher. He makes the lectures 100 times harder than they should be. Gives lots of difficult unnecessary homework. Takes attendance for a 500+ student lecture class. He is super hard to follow along and very unhelpful. Besides that he seems like a nice guy I do admit, BUT HE IS NOT A GOOD TEACHER!!!
Dont think i've ever had a professor so... irritating. Tophat for a 500 person lecture, ridiculously long homeworks weekly, quizzes 3 times a week. You can't even work ahead because he keeps everything hidden. Lectures are incredibly sub par and his ego is too big to record. Also a grown man who whines abt ppl leaving early?? come on
People giving 1/5 are the type to leave lecture after attendance is taken ;). I think the class is fair, and the 500 person lecture doesn't lend well to an interactive lecture, but Drew helped me out via email and after class. The first exam was an in-class application that was average difficulty with a pretty easy open note online part after.
I had Dr. Drew for 2 semesters (ECE 2060 and ECE 2360). He explains things very well and is quite enthusiastic about teaching. Homeworks can be long, but there aren't many. Exams were very reasonable. I ended up with well over 100% in both classes cuz he offers extra credit and SEI bonus. One of the best professor's I've had at OSU.
This professor is the worst. He gives way too many homework questions, doesn't grade them. There's no extra credit, no lecture videos, and no exam reviews. He suggests reviewing from the homework solutions, but they only get posted on Sunday evening, right before the Monday midterm. This is by far the worst class I've ever taken at OSU.
take 2060 with a different prof if you can. he gives more of a high school teacher vibe than a college professor but not in a good way. also doesn't know how to use a microphone and instead opts to yell every class. his voice gives me a headache tbh. also way too much hw with little guidance. lecture isnt helpful but you have to go for attendance
Honestly I can't stand the class or the professor. He tells you in the beginning that exams will cover things that you have NEVER seen in class. You take half of your exam in a 500 person lecture hall while he yaps the entire time. He doesn't answer emails, TAs aren't given an answer key for hmwrk either so it's the blind leading the blind. AVOID!
He is the worst professor I have ever seen. He doenst give any feedback on homeworks and doesnt post grades, doesnt answer emails and doesnt answer questions. He says Look at the slides and the slides he gives are useless.
WORST PROFESSOR. DOnt take him at any cost.
Doesnt help at all.
He has successfully turned an easy course into an unnecessarily difficult one, with busywork and subpar lectures. Has a tendency to be very petty during lectures, often making remarks about the few students who leave after the attendance code is released (in a 500+ person lecture hall). Not a bad guy, but not a good professor. King Chud ngl
Doesnt offer help. DOesnt replyt to his emails even with constant follow up.All he says is go through the slides which are useless even if you go through them 100 times. The worst grader. Doesnt grade homeworks until the end of semester which is 15% of the grade so you basically dont even how to prepare and what is your grade.
He gives way too many homework questions, doesn't grade them. There's no extra credit, no lecture videos, and no exam reviews. He suggests reviewing from the homework solutions, but they only get posted on Sunday evening, right before the Monday midterm. This is by far the worst class I've ever taken. Has to give one as there is no negative rating
Avoid at all costs. He assigns so much homework and hasn't graded a single one. He takes attendance in a 500+ person lecture...
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Does not grade homework, does not give study guides or reviews, slides don't make sense. The concepts are easy but the class is very hard.
WORST ECE PROFESSOR!
Easily the most annoying professor I've had. The class itself is easy, but Mr. Phillips makes me hate it. He's not awful at teaching the material, but his personality is grating. This guy has a PhD in Engineering Education (useless degree tbh), yet he's still bad at it
AVOID HIM HES GONNA MAKE YOUR LIFE HELL
I wish there was negative rating. He doesnt even reply to his emails or the questions you have. The only thing he says is go through the slides which are useless and nowhere compared to the things he gives us for the test or the homework. Hasnt graded a single thing from the start of the semester. DOesnt teach properly.
Teaches the class like its very easy, has difficult midterms and homework which take forever
Absolute nightmare experience so far with this professor, never thought a professor could be this bad. Super unfit to be teaching at this level of education. Doesn't grade hw, doesn't respond to emails, hws and exams are terrible. This guy thinks he's something that he's not.
01010011 01000001 01010110 01000101 00100000 01011001 01001111 01010101 01010010 01010011 01000101 01001100 01010110 01000101 01010011
The semester ends in a month but a single homework assignment isn't graded yet. No review guide and no practice exams. No additional exam study resources. However, on the exam, we're expected to solve problems that we've never practiced nor seen and lectures don't cover the contents in depth and don't prepare students well for those exam problems.
homework is the main way that we can study for example problems but the homework answer keys were posted the day before the exam
He provides no resources to study and makes exams as if he taught everything he doesnt teach anything he just reads the slides which are useless
THE WORST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER TAKEN. doesnt respond to any questions all he says is go through the resoyrces which are nothing but useless slides which he reads from in the lectures. he thinks he makes it easy but he doesnt. and he will go I made the exam easier for you. The exam is nothing that he teaches you.
goes out of the way to make the class harder
The professor makes the class hard for no reason. Also did not post the grades for HW until the end.
3 years of college and this is by far the worst professor I've ever had. I dont need to elaborate, just read the other reviews
Great Professor in his sense of humor and at times teaching the material. Outside of that in places such as hw, other assignments, exams, he's horrid.
SAVE YOURSELF RUN RUN FAR FAR FAR AWAY. I WISH I COULD LEAVE A 0 OR A NEGATIVE. HORRIBLE PROFESSOR, EVERYONE SAID THE CLASS WAS EASY ITS NOT! THE ACTUAL CONTENT IN THIS CLASS IS SUPER SUPER EASY BUT MAN DOES NOT MAKE IT EASY. FOR OUR 30 MINUITE EXAM HALF THE CLASS DIDN'T KNOW WHAT TO DO THE FIRST 10.
I actually cannot stress this enough: if you have the ability to take ECE2060 with another professor, DO IT! Drew Phillips will make your life harder simply because he can. TONS of hw, exams that'll have you staring at the paper for 10 mins wondering how to start. 40% comes from "unseen material". Yes, he tests you on stuff he didnt teach.
where can I start but say don't take the class, holy crap, got out of the exam and the first 1/3 of the exam not a single person wrote on the paper. All of us where trying to figure out what the exam was asking. RUN FOR YOUR LIFE. not an easy A class also very useless lectures
Seems like a nice guy but the tests are on concepts you never learn. Studying does not help and easy concepts are made impossible in this class.
Here's one word that best represents this professor….. schadenfreude
Unimaginably bad. Weekly Homework that rarely mirrors anything inside of the lectures and introduces all-new ideas inside of midterms. Turns simple concepts complex for no apparent reason. AVOID.
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS! Had Part A of his midterm today and for the first 1/3 of the exam nobody wrote down a single thing on the midterm. The midterms, homework, and lectures do not have the same material on them. Makes easy concepts very difficult to understand.
I don't know what he possibly hopes to gain for making people suffer! He brings questions in exams that he never taught before
We had a 30-minute in-class midterm with one single question on something we've never seen before. I get that it's meant to test critical thinking and application skills, but the professor never gave us any chance to practice that kind of thinking with extra resources or examples The material wasn't taught in enough depth to actually prepare us.
DON'T TAKE THIS PROFESSORS LECTURE. LITERALLY MEANINGLESS HW AND LECTURE. Always put A TONS OF HW for EACH WEEK.
WORST PROFESSOR I'VE EVER HAD THUS FAR AT OSU. he assigns way too much homework and doesnt grade them until the end of the semester, and publishes answers the night before the exam. his exams have NOTHING to do w hws or in class lectures. i think he wants to see us fail
this guy makes me want to throw rocks. Midterms are significantly harder than anything done in class or on homeworks. Unresponsive in emails, doesn't give answers to homeworks to TA's, petty during lectures. There is not much to like.
Takes attendance for a 500 person lecture so he can talk repetitively over the slides. Has a ton of homework due on every Friday. And 40% of the midterm has nothing to do with it. Giving only 30 minutes for a super challenging question and talks every 10 minutes to distract us. This dude seems to be a sadist having fun seeing students struggling.
Stingy Professor. Doesn't provide practice problems or exams that are similar to what is given on the exam. Teaches partial material in lecture and decides to give homework and exams that are too in-depth
Doesn't grade any work in a timely manner. Takes attendance in a massive lecture and complains when students leave. Just reads off slides during lecture (don't know why attendance is required when you can do that by yourself). Has unrealistic expectations for his midterms, if you don't think of the answer immediately your screwed, not enough time.
Not fun. Dr. Phillips seems like a good guy, but this class is poorly ran and exams are exceedingly hard and there are little resources to base off of except unhelpful slides. Homework from January not graded.
I took the midterm 2 today and let me describe the test in one way- hideous. I agree that it is supposed to be conceptual but the teacher could have given some sort of practice. In the slides u learn how to do 1+1 but the tests is going to be like solve the integral without using numbers.
Totally acceptable. Revise for the whole example till 4am. only 30 min to do a project that is totally out of the homework range. Tons of homework and low efficiency for grading homework. Homework 1 is not graded till the end of the semester. Course is not that hard but he make our life hard as hell.
A joke. Certainly not up to the standards you'd expect from OSU. Truly horrible exams.
nice/zany guy, god-awful professor. he just talks at you about the lecture for 30 minutes then does attendance and yaps about students hurting his feelings for the other 20. homework/studying sucks because it's damn near impossible to check your work and he sucks at explaining anything if you visit during office hours.
Hasn't graded a single homework all semester. Midterms are nothing like anything else done in the class
Assigns like 25 hard homework problems every week. Lecture slides are useless when it comes to the exams or the homework. Everyone before this guy said this class was on of the easiest and now its the hardest. And exams don't relate to what he teaches. I hope someone screen mirrors all of these reviews on the screen mid lecture so he can see them.
Exam was passed out, I only had 30 mins since he took eternity to pass out the papers, instructions so unclear on exam, made me contemplate my life and took me more than 15 mins to comprehend the Exam, then had around 15 mins left, No one was writing on the paper, everything I studied - Well nothing was on the exam. Exam so hard, idk what life is.
Professor didn't teach any examples or content that was like the exam, the midterm was so bad, no one knew how to do it and I couldn't even understand a single word on the exam, I had to turn the exam in blank with random scribbles. Don't know how a professor like this gets into OSU education, we need less people like this hopefully OSU reevaluates
Worst exam I ever took in my life, I think I am now Failing the class, thanks a lot for a class thats supposed to be super easy, its harder than all MY CSE and ECE CLASSES!!!
Lectures are fine but midterms are horrible. Midterm is nothing like the problems done in class. Homework can take more than 5 hours to do and still doesn't prepare you for the midterm. Gives you an hour to do 15-20 problems even though one problem can easily take 10 minutes (you have to draw circuits / maps). Don't take.
He gives a lot of homework, 8 pages a week of problems that takes about 6 hours to do no joke. He has no clue on how much knowledge he is providing and allowing us to learn. This is by far the most difficult class l've ever taken and that's saying something since this is an introductory course. He lies on the content being graded on midterms too.
midterms are horrid. he talks about shedding tears when people leave after attendance but his class has made me shed a lot more tears then he ever has. nothing we did in class was on the midterm and he kept interrupting my thinking with his stingy comments during the exam. don't know how osu hired this guy
Drew is not a bad professor at all, and I'd go to say he is one of my better I have had so far. Everyone complaining about the midterm clearly doesn't try hard enough, as it was extremely easy. I attend office hours once a week, and go to lectures. Not a hard class
Just don't take it from him
Utterly terrible class, fake 5/5 reviews. Do not schedule it's not worth money or time
I will say, his midterms are insanely hard for 3 credits and make people go insane. But overall as a lecturer, he teaches the material well. Cares about what people have to say and takes lots of questions. Comes prepared everyday. The only downside is the insane amount of homework and midterms that are killer. Great guy though in general.
So far the worst teacher I've ever had. The content is ok, but his midterms are the most outrageous things I've ever experienced. The midterms are 30 minutes for the in-person section and are incredibly difficult to complete in that time frame. If you can take another professor, please do.
Very hard second midterm. Borderline unfair. Expect the written midterm questions to be significantly harder than homework or in class questions. With that being said, he teaches the material well and is clearly enjoys it. Seems to want his students to succeed and is willing to help if you ask questions. Homework takes forever, so plan ahead.
One of the best professors I've had. Explains complex material in a way that kids can understand. Yes the in person portion of the midterm is hard. That's why it is only worth 40% of your midterm grade. The other 60% of the midterm is an easy online midterm. Also ofc homework grades aren't in. HE TEACHES A 100-150 PERSON CLASS.
6+ hours of homework a week, gives lectures that could be a 5 minute video but last an hour, and there is 540 students that each have 6 homework assignments (at this point in the semester) with 4-8 parts of 2-3 questions and not a single homework has been graded which rounds out to at least 38,000 questions that still need grades submitted.
Professor Drew is a funny and caring professor who genuinely wants to help his students. People insulting his character & looks for any reason should be ashamed. Yes, The course is much harder than expected. Homework takes hours, and while office hours help, the workload is a lot. No amount of studying could've prepared me for the midterm.
The guy really just shouldn't have gone into teaching. Midterms use concepts that he admits we have never used before and far far exceed hw difficult. Participation is worth an egregious amount of grade, yet lectures are unhelpful and he cries about people skipping. It is a large lecture but in the 11 weeks of class, 0 hws are graded. 100% avoid it
Unfortunately the midterm was a disaster from my experience. I felt like Drew may have expected too much from students in a intro class. However, I don't find it necessary to make fun of his character, looks, etc. He's a genuine guy and while yes the midterm sucked we shouldn't just start flaming everything about him.
Did hours of test prep for a 1 question exam with nothing to do with the practiced content. Relevant homework answers released the DAY BEFORE. All my homeworks aren't graded yet by Midterm 2. The only grades in are online Carmen quizzes. Sweet lecturer, but the exams/HWs are CHEEKS. Every other ECE class I've heard of is easier than this. Run.
He said the midterm would be fine as long as we did all the homework and practice problems from the lecture slides. Well, guess what? It wasn't. The exam was just one question, 30 minutes long, and completely unmanageable. Even if I had studied all week and had a full hour instead of 30 minutes, I still don't think I could've figured it out.
Drew is a great guy, but his exam questions are unreasonable. The lectures and homework are easy to understand, but the exams are nowhere near the difficulty of those and there are no additional materials available to prepare for the difficulty seen on the exams. He's great for ECE 2360, but not 2060.
Heard this was an easy class from past students, but the new professor made the homework really long and the midterms are extremely difficult. Three mandatory lectures plus a three hour lab every week for just 3 credits feels like too much. I guess that's not his fault, but with how time-consuming it is, I expect shorter homework and easier exams
In halls of steel and static grey, Where whispers hum, where shadows sway, A midterm loomed, its question steep— A terror born from dreamless sleep. Nights before fought in vain, Rusted notes and weary pain. The Professor stood with crimson glare, A watchful eye, a vacant stare. No mercy hid behind his gaze, Just endless rows of failing grades.
I think Professor Drew is a great guy. He's nice to students and is passionate with what he's talking about. Charismatic as well, I love the music he plays before class. The exams are hard, yes, but I just think he overestimated the students' understanding of the material, but doesn't deserve the hate he gets/is getting.
Midterms are nothing like the homeworks. One problem that in his words, "test our problem solving skills" but unfortunately, those skills, in this context, are never developed in this class, rather he thinks we put parallel adders with MUXES and decoders together in our sleep to practice our skills. Hopefully he changes this class next year.
Bad instructor, ok DJ.
No this isn't "drew's alt account". Genuinely concerned student. Yes, the midterm was BAD. But realize we are all adults - words carry weight. Lectures have been decent, and I have had both worse and better lecturers. This is out of hand - get a grip of how hurtful you all could be. Yes, I failed the midterm too, but wtf, have some professionalism.
Good teacher, unfair class.
Very disappointed in this class. None of the homework's have been graded and now we only have the final left. I have no idea where I stand grade wise, I also have no confirmation if what I'm doing homework wise is correct. The extra credit myth is false. Schedule this class with a diff prof if u can!!!!
This guy is the downfall to all aspiring ECE Majors. He will make you want to drop engineering as a whole. If you can avoid this class, I would do so. The homework assignments are absurdly long with little to no guidance on how to go about the problem, even when going to his office hours. His lectures are monotonous and hard to stay awake in.
I had Drew during his first section of ECE 2060 in 2023 and he was a stellar professor. If you had any issues with completing assingments ontime he would grant extensions no questions asked. On every exam, he gave an incredible amount of partial credit by following your workflow. I would not have passed this course without his lecturing.
I get that this is a difficult class. I felt well prepared for the second midterm, but after seeing it, I believe there was no way for me to prepare other than pure clairvoyance. We spent a single day per combinatorial device and we made nothing with them in all that time. The lab with the MUX is the only one I couldn't understand. What a midterm.
I really wanted to like this class/prof. He is quite passionate in lecture and teaching. The content is interesting. However, he expected too much of the students on the exams. Dislike we have to go to office hours to see previous exams. Have gone to most office hours and pretty sure sure I got a 0/40 on midterm 2 part a. Terrible course structure.
Professor Drew is very passionate about his lectures. He clearly spends a lot of time preparing for the course slides and the notes on it. He might expect all students to have the same passion as he does so he takes attendance for a 500 person class and overestimated students' ability on midterm 2. I'm sure he will accommodate for that midterm.
I really tried to like this dude, seems like a good guy overall. But he has ZERO concept of time he gives midterms that are overall fair questions in regard to the content, but comprehending his subpar instructions takes half of the allotted 30 minutes on the written portion. And on the online portions of his exams time restrictions are even worse.
Very unprofessional and clueless professor based on my experience so far!
I took this class thinking it would be an easier class reading from previous reviews. However, I got hit in the face with hours of homework and nearly impossible to do midterms in 30 minutes. I can't even begin to imagine how the final will look like. Drew is a great guy, but his lectures are useless and the class structure is terrible.
DON'T TAKE 2060 w him. I don't have a single good thing to say about this guy. His lectures could be 10 minutes but he requires attendance for a 500+ person class. His slides are so simple and the concepts are so easy and he chooses to make the homework and midterms 100x more in depth. He doesn't grade/respond to emails. His voice is is annoying.
The midterm was hard, and I probably didn't pass, but getting a bad grade doesn't give you a free pass to insult someone. We're adults; we don't throw rants and fits when life happens. Professor Phillips is a great person who cares about his students, but he overestimated our skills. He's new, but I'm confident he'll become a great professor.
Crashing out
I think he is a good person, but those inperson midterms are just inhuman.
Actions speak louder than words man. I'm not speaking for anyone else, just myself, I've spent so much time and effort on this course, and I still did terribly. That's why I've kind of lost my faith in him. I don't think he's a bad person at all. I care and I've gone above and beyond, but maybe I'm just still not good enough for this class.
I don't know what's wrong with people. I saw comments saying it's easy. I go to his office hours too. And you want to talk about trying hard? I finished the homework the day after he posted it, read the textbook, reviewed all the lectures, and did extra questions from the book and I'm still doomed. Am I trying hard enough?
Midterms are awful, homework's are long and grueling
Drew did a good job teaching the course. It was difficult but he kept lectures interesting and made class enjoyable.
Drew is a good guy don't get me wrong. This class though? sucks. I had to drop lol. I mean, this class helped me realize ECE was not the right path for me.
Worst lecturer I've had yet. Snarky, not helpful with questions despite teaching a weed-out course & always condescending. Not gonna tolerate another course like this.
Wish I could rate lower
Drew has been the worst for my mental health. This should be an easy class. His mandatory lectures are wasted overexplaining concepts in an unhelpful way. His exam was awful and he is denying that and belittling student's concerns. 3 months in, and not a single homework has been graded. Worst professor, I am angry that this class cost me money.
I really tried to like Drew, even with the grueling Homeworks. Midterm 1 was bad , but Midterm 2 was awful. I really tried hard to get a lackluster grade. Im not sure if it is him or the School that is trying to weed people out. Im sorry Drew, I think you are a good guy, and a great teacher, but you have to be more realistic on what is doable.
Nice guy, but how he makes the midterms is awful. Midterm 1 was doable, but the second midterm was completely ridiculous for an introductory class.
If you're diligent and stay on top of the class, the content is pretty quick to pick up. He's very good at explaining. His tests are pretty hard, but he curved my B- up to a B. Sounds like John Mulaney.
I think he's a good teacher and pretty good during lectures, but the organization of the class is terrible. There's mandatory attendance for a large class, long homework assignments, poorly constructed tests, and he is slow at grading. I would not recommend taking this instructor.
Drew is a great professor, I ended 2060 with over a 100% Tests are very similar to the homework with one or two extra questions that make you think a small amount. 2060 is the easiest of the ECE core classes and Drew makes it fun.
Extremely kind and nice professor, but the amounts of homework and the difficulty of the exams was terrible. I genuinely hope for the best for him, but I'm terrified about the final exam.
Prof. Phillips is very enthusiastic about teaching; while the homework/exam workload is a little overbearing I appreciate the amount of care he puts into helping if you reach out. Most examples were useful real-world applications of digital logic concepts which though difficult I appreciated. Please visit his office hours, they are very helpful!
Dr. Drew is one of the most genuine and amazing people I have ever met. He is so unbelievably helpful when it comes to classwork and you can tell that he genuinely cares about his students and their success. I was so sad when I couldn't take him for my second semester of FEH.
I loved having Drew as my FEH professor. He was caring towards all his students and helped make this hard engineering course fun and relatable. He was funny and understanding. He holds his students to high standards as he wants to see us all thrive, and you will hear some negative reviews on here from students who want good grades handed to them.
Update: He did essentially curve the midterm by giving insane partial credit. Additionally, he's a really committed professor and obviously loves what he teachers. A decent lecturer overall and the class is fair.
He is a really good teacher and is likely to help you out no matter what
TOTALLY NOT UNDERSTANDABLE DOES NOTHING THAN GIVING A SO STRANGE QUIZ AND MAKES OUR GRADE SO LOW
Seriously? Who comes up the time limits for these tests.
Good teacher!
Horrible teacher, doesn't provide good study content, grueling homework, and unfair midterms and exams. Do not take at all costs if you want to preserve yourself.
Overall a fair professor, lectures were not very useful because all of the material was available online. Additionally, the exams are very tough, but they are graded generously to compensate for the difficulty.
Drew Phillips you will meet justice. You have tortured the good students of Columbus for too long. -Batman
Drew Phillips is a nightmare, tells bad jokes, and plots more diabolically than me. This coming from a funny guy that speaks a lot! -Joker
Honestly not the worst prof I've had but he's down there… I don't think the lectures or homework were well constructed to a point where I felt I learned anything. Maybe I'm just horrible at everything in this class, but I left this course feeling like I didn't gain much from it.
He is really really nice both as a person and as a teacher. He was available to help with classes he wasn't teaching me at the time and as fas as I have seen, his office hours is always full of ready to learn students. Drew has been awesome!
I did not like the way he gave difficult exams in class. I hope he will stop doing that next semester since it hurts my grade badly. Other than this, he is a good lecturer.
Good luck solving his in class midterm exams portion,
Drew is a knowledgeable and genuinely cares about students learning the material. He's accessible, clear, approachable, and mostly well-organized. The exams, though, have unreasonable time limits. The in-class part is very hard (but graded leniently), and you have to be very well prepared if you want to do well on the multiple-choice online part.
Drew did a great job teaching ECE 2050 for his first time. I enjoyed his lectures, and I feel that he really wants his students to learn the material.
Going into this course, I was a little concerned, but the class was actually quite pleasant. The exams aren't too difficult if you are familiar with the material, and Mr. Phillips grades fairly. The homework takes a while to complete, but if you start when it is assigned, you should have no problem submitting it in time.
People have a lot of hateful things to say about him. Not entirely sure why. He genuinely cares about teaching / his students and the class was not nearly as difficult as the (hundreds??) of reviews would seem to indicate.
Dr. Drew gets a lot more flak than he deserves, in my opinion, but his in-person exams were pretty unfair. Other than that, he is a pretty funny professor and lectures well. ECE 2060 is probably not best suited for a lecture of 500 students...
Drew has the misfortune of teaching a class that makes people realize they aren't built for their major.
