Really great teacher! Definitely suggest taking him for Linear Math and Calculus.
i find him to be very helpful.

Highly recommended!!!

Excellent; best choice of teacher ever
The best teacher that I could have had for Linear Math and Calculus! I def. recommend him! His class is very easy and his notes and practice tests follow exactly what are on the worksheets/tests.
this guy really cares about his students...Is not out to screw anyone gradewise...you try and you'll do well in the class
he is the best teacher ever...get him if you like being able to retake your tests.
This class is unbelievably easy but you will learna few things about dreamweaver and access. the word and powerpoint units are ridiculous. Prof. Leatherman is pretty cool and very easy going. He will help you out if you need it.

This teacher is awesome. He explains everthing so well and is very helpful. Take him if you get the chance.
I am not skilled in math and he made linear math and calculus logical and understandable. He is very concerned about his students and cares about them and their progress. Best math class I have ever had and that is saying a lot for me and math. Plus he set up lots of trips to do races. Gotta love a runner.
Hard, but he is very helpful
Quizzes after every new lesson but he drops your lowest scores... tests are hard but he will help you if you need it
Leatherman is okay. He can be scatterbrained sometimes, but he genuinely wants each student to learn.
Easy Class. Teaches well. Study guides were pretty much the same as the test. Oh, and his jokes are..interesting.
Too many students have taken advantage of him, and now, he's over the top. It's an easy class with just worksheets. But the constant quizzing and tests will come to haunt you after the semester starts. It becomes too much to keep up with unless you have had Calculus previously. His attendance policy is stupid also
The class was pretty easy and he was usually fairly nice and funny (in a cheesy way). But sometimes he'd get really moody. And he was very rude to me for absoultely no good reason. FYI: He looks down on you if you don't got to math lab - even if you're still pulling off an "A" without it!
Very easy class, until the final. He put emphasis on stuff that is not very emphasized on the final. It was ridiculous when I saw this professor complaining about the contents of the final on the day before the final.
I LOVE DUANE! He can be a little frustrating, but he genuinely cares about his students, he is a really positive mentor, and he loves what he does. Go to office hours, go to lab- he will be even more willing to help. Plus he drops the lowest quiz grades and lets you retake tests- that is a gift in itself.
He is THE ONLY ONE to take for calc 1. Everything was perfect. Although he did not prepare very well for a challenging final, but he will SUBTRACT many points from the final which makes it a lot easier.
Used VHS tapes to teach MODERN computers class. No instruction, expected you to read and perform task. Required notes, graded them. Attendance policy terrible, only one absense allowed. Needed help from students to work smartboard and computer. Not even an easy A, very tricky, as if he wants you o fail. Don't take if you want to learn something.
Great professor. Really cares about his students and works really hard to help them. He drops five of your lowest quiz scores and lets you retake tests!
He's all over the place when he teaches so be prepared to erase the entire problem he just wrote. If you've never had calc it will be hard. Take advantage of the retests and do the homework because it counts as a test grade at the end. He curves the final and really helps you out. He honestly doesn't want anyone to fail.
If you have a background in calc this class is easy...if not well then you have to work a lil harder. He gives lots of quizes and homework so it helps your grade so it isn't all just tests. there is a lot of work but a fairly good class. get use to the phrase "it's basic algebra" :)
He is such a great man! He truly doesn't want anyone to fail/do poorly. He retests and gives homework and quiz points. HE is the only good Calc1 professor!! old tests/ quizes are very helpful if you can get a hold of them! & he curves the final by INSANE amounts! take him... if you're willing to put in the work, you won't be disappointed!
he is by far the easiest teacher and makes it impossible to not get an A. Offers retests and has a quiz each class on the worksheet you turn in the day of and sometimes he throws extra points on for fun.Gives you notebook and worksheet points. If you can stand his terrible jokes take the class
Genuinely wants everyone in the class to do well. He's a good guy. Class isn't too difficult if you keep up with the homework and study for his quizzes. He also offers test retakes which is very helpful
Great teacher. Makes it so there is no way possible to fail if you complete all assignments and retake tests like he recommends. Easy class and would take a class with him again.
Really helpful teacher. I am not the best at math but he makes things a lot easier to process. Easily the best math teacher I've ever had. And he genuinely pushes his students to do well. You cant ask for much more.
He is such a great professor. He really does care about his students and wants them to do well. He drops lowest quiz scores and lets you retake tests. He's also really good about office hours. If you have taken calculus prior to this class, it should be a breeze. But even if you haven't, you will do fine. Oh and his jokes are the best :)
First off, this is directed at business calc, which is DIFFERENT from calc. Leatherman is a great guy, tells corny jokes EVERYDAY, and does truly care about you. BUT he is everywhere and frustrated me with his tangents and how he wasted time. he wants you to pass, not get an A. I really struggled with the business probs. I suggest another teacher.
I'm not a math person& prof. Leatherman made this class far less painful than I was expecting. The weekly quizzes are kinda a pain, but the format of the class really forced me to stay up to date on the material. He wastes a lot of class time& sometimes rushes through material which is annoying. I had never taken calc before& did well w/ effort
Leatherman really does care about his students. He is always willing to help and if you seek his help it does help you out. His odd jokes are an awesome little touch to the class. a very likable guy. Quizes keep you up to date and are a nice grade cushion. one of the nicest guys on campus.
My favorite teacher of all time, very helpful and very understanding. Do what you are told, study and you will do well in the class. Awesome teacher and person.
Great Professor, Great Guy. If you don't like calculus, this is the professor to get. He is very nice and explains things great. His tests are very straight forward. He wants you to do well.
He really wants his students to excel and does his part to help his students when they need help. Students just have to do their part too though.
Take Leatherman for business calculus. He lets you re-take tests and does a great job going through all of the example problems.
He really enjoys what he teaches. His tests are hard, but study for all the quizzes. He allows retakes and takes the average between the two test grades which really helps.
Leatherman is the easiest professor I have had at Butler. His tests are easy, but the quizzes and worksheets are annoying. The quizzes are always rushed because he wastes so much time in the beginning of the class doing nothing.
Easiest professor. Not the greatest teacher in the world, but his class is extremely easy to get an A in.
Please don't make the mistake of taking this class if you need an A. He rushes everything because he wastes time trying to be your friend. Not a great class for people who aren't math friendly.
The massive amount of required assignments is really good to keep you on top of your work. His lectures are godawful boring and because I took calc in high school, I already understood. He started class late and then held us over because he was slow at lecturing. Do not go and ask for help because he will belittle you before helping you.
Why do you have a man so not good with technology teaching a programming class? If you do not follow his assignments word for word, you will not get full credit. That means decimal places, wording, and all. His teaching style would be great for someone already fluent in computer programming but I definitely am NOT. He insults you before helping you
He is super easy, but also super old. Expect to spend half the class everyday with him trying to figure out what his plan was. He likes to talk about his life and never finishes half the material needed for the common final.
Easier than other Calculus teachers because you can retake every test and each test is curved about 2 or 3 points. Worksheets instead of online or book homework and quizzes about every other class. Can be difficult if you have never had Calculus before. Limited material is covered in one class period. Decide if being bored is worth the retests.
easiest class ive taken at butler. tests are extremely similar to the practice tests that he posts before with answers. lets you retake tests but you shouldnt even have to if you know how to do the practice tests. posts the answers to the homework before you even turn it in most of the time. ended the class with around a 105% because of curves.
Leatherman was my all time favorite freshman prof(calc 1st sem.) i have NEVER been a math person but this was the first math class i ever got perfects on tests/A in the class. lots of quizzes/worksheets but he explains how to do problems on them thoroughly in class &they kept me on top of my studying which helped with tests. take him if you can!!
For someone who has taken calculus before, Business Calc was a breeze
leatherman is one of the sweetest professors i've had. he's very personable and his fun jokes and puns helped make the fact that i was taking a math class better. he genuinely cares about students and works to form personal relationships with each one. would recommend him if math is not your strong point. retests are always offered & are very nice
Leatherman is the good karma you get after enduring Bio105 Gereke. Leatherman wants you to succeed. He's the grandpa I always wished for. He made a subject I was terrified of manageable. I love him. Brought my blood pressure down 50 points. Thank god for Leatherman! Seriously. I learned a ton and it wasn't torture. Imagine that, effing Gereke!
Dr. Leatherman is very intelligent and helpful. He truly cares about all his students, and makes great efforts to get to know them. As a teacher, he is awesome but moves through material slowly. My class was very behind on material and the final was harder for us compared to other sections. A great guy and prof, just slow and old. Easy A.
Leatherman is such a sweet old man. Business Calc class was easiest ever. I didn't learn much new material from highschool calc so most was review.
Professor Leatherman is a very nice old man, but he will screw you over for the final. The class is easy because he teaches slow and gives you chances to redo your tests, but the final exam is not written by him and therefore nobody was prepared. The final dropped my grade 1.5 letter grades. If you want to actually learn calc take someone else.
Duane is one of my favorite professors at Butler. As someone who struggles with math, he really made it clear and took the time to help me. Great guy and a great class, would take him again for sure.
God bless Prof Leatherman. He tries his gosh darn best to help you pass this wretched class. Retake tests. Helps all he can. That said, you will fail the final, so go into it with a grade that can take an enormous hit. Don't skip class.
One of the best professor here at Butler University. Homework everyday and he collected HW. You can't missed class. He always give us a retest but he averaged the first and the retake. He is so nice and caring and he cared about his students success. He basically have office hour every week so if you are struggling he is always available to help!!!
D-Leather may care more about students and their grades than they do. He tries his hardest to help. Great prof teaching a tough subject. He makes it as easy as he can. He understands people are just trying to pass to fulfill requirements. Always allows retests. Lots of busy work but it pays off. Best Calc 1 Prof. Pad your grade B4 very hard final.
Leatherman is a professor who genuinely cares that you do well in his class. He drops quiz grades and curves exams. The practice exams he provides are almost identical to the real thing. However, he moves fast. Expect a lot of homework and 2-3 quizzes each week with a test almost every other.
Tutored this for 2+yrs. It's an easy A until the final: many opportunities to earn points back. There's a departmental common final that he does not write. Students consistently earn the lowest scores: department average is 85% & his classes are 60%. You'll prob pass because of a huge curve, but good luck applying what you never learned.
Dr. Leatherman is great. I would definitely take his class again. There might be a lot homework, but he posts answers before we have to turn it in. Every homework is associated with a quiz, so there is quite amount of quizzes, too, but those will help your grade if you know what you are doing. He gives 1 extra credit on every quiz and some on test.
Good teacher goes by the book. Be prepared for the tests.
Leatherman is awesome! He really cares about all his students, and does everything he can to make this course as manageable as possible. The tests and homework load is manageable if you put in the work. I was terrified of this class bc I've never had calculus before but I actually started to enjoy coming to class.
Really good professor. Works with his students until they understand the material. Offers test corrections for every test which can really boost your grade. A lot of homework but he gives you every opportunity to get the grade you want.
His tests are literally the exact same as practice tests he gives out, just different numbers. He curves all the tests significantly and gives extra credit on each weekly quiz. Takes a complex subject and breaks it down into a simple manner. However, the finals are department created and are difficult compared to to tests
He is a great professor in terms of lecturing. Tests are based on quizzes, quizzes are based on homework. As long as you keep up, you will get good grades. He is very strict with "his way" and not very flexible. It will be rare if you can get out on time after class.
Professor Leatherman is by far my favorite professor at Butler. He truly cares about all his students and has a relationship with you outside the classroom. His quizzes/tests are exactly same as study guide and homework, except numbers obviously are changed. Loved the class and all his jokes. Not difficult, even without previously taking Calculus.
Prof Leatherman is possibly one of the kindest professors on this campus. His classes are very informative and his daily office hours make him extremely accessible. He understands that BusCalc is tough for some students and wants to help you help yourself. Regularly brings cookies and holds finals study sessions. All around just an awesome prof.
Great professor and an even better guy... Be prepared for tests.
He is very unorganized and goes through material super slow. However, he is an amazing person as a whole and really cares about his students success. You always know what to expect on tests and quizzes and he offers retests. Although he is a great person, theres LOTS of homeworks and I do not feel prepared for the final because we are very behind.
I absolutely LOVE him! He cares so much about your success. His material is kind of hard and i got my first A- in his class but he was always very kind and willing to meet outside of class. I would definintly reccomend taking him for business calc. P. S. If you put in the work, meet with him outside of class, & go to the math lab, youll get A-.
If you have the chance, take professor Leatherman for calc!! Very nice guy and really cares about all of his students. He gives a lot of extra credit which is nice and he offers retests. Tests are just like the practice tests, and quizzes are similar to the homework.
Dr. Leatherman is a solid professor. There are quite a few quizzes, sometimes two in a week, but they prepare you pretty well for the tests. Not overly difficult but you still have to put in some work to receive the grade that you want.
leatherman is a pretty good professor who i had for calc 1 and for calc 2. though sometimes he gets confused or rushes through material quickly, he does honestly care about his students. there are frequent quizzes but there is always a chance to earn extra points on them so it's easy to get a good grade if you try. he also drops quizzes at the end.
I took Professor Leatherman for Calc 2 and while he sometimes got distracted in class, he was a great teacher overall. He does take a long time to get class started. He really cares about his students and he wants them all to be successful. He gives about 1-2 quizzes a week, but they are based on the homework and prepare students well for the test
Worst class I have ever taken. Spends the first 3/4th's of class going over one example, and expects you to know and understand the concept. There is a loophole however. If you are a hot girl, instant A. Be prepared to be blindsided with practice tests that will not help you for the actual test, and a temper if your class does bad on a test or quiz
Definitely the worst professor i've had on this campus. He has a temper and when the class doesn't understand something he yells. He embarrasses students who have a simple question. He doesn't listen to questions/concerns. He's good at math but not good at teaching it. Material moves quickly 1-3 quizzes a week.
Where to begin... this may be the worse teacher I've ever had in all my years of schooling. He would routinely show up 10+ minutes late to class, he would yell at students and insult us & our intelligence frequently, and then barely leave 15 minutes at the end of class to actually teach what we needed to know +a quiz almost every class.
One of my fav profs and made calc manageable! Would highly recommend!! He is so sweet and likes to make math jokes during class! His study guides are so helpful before tests if you can do the study guide you will get an A on the test
Amazing! Would 100% take for calc especially if you arent the best at math. He is so helpful and loves to throw in jokes during his lecture!
I did not like Leatherman one bit. One of the rudest teachers I have had at Butler University. He expects you to know the content from the beginning of the semester. He yells at you for asking questions. He also makes a lot of mistakes when he goes over the solutions. Overall, a horrible teacher.
Prof. Leatherman is a really nice guy and the best part about this course is he lets you drop THREE quizzes. We had quizzes like once a week but everything is cover by the worksheet he gives each week. He also has practice tests for each exam (3 each semester including the final) that basically the same as the exam with different numbers.
I know teaching online has been a struggle for a lot of teachers, but Mr. Leatherman REALLY struggles. Personally I found his teaching style very difficult to learn from as he would only get through one example in an entire class period, often times making mistakes along the way or forgetting about moving the camera for students on Zoom.
Solid professor, might have to learn a few things on your own
Prof. Leatherman cares about his students succeeding in class. He provides practice tests for our tests and allows retests too. He also let us use our notes on quizzes. He is very approachable if you need extra-help too. If you complete the worksheets and complete the practice tests, you will be SO READY for the assessments.
Leatherman is an experienced professor who cares about students. He takes a while to take attendance and give papers back which can be boring. But he has tons of office hours and loves helping students outside class. His worksheets and practice tests are always extremely similar to tests and quizzes. If you put in the time you'll be completely fine
Gives out test retakes. Easy hw and very quiz and test oriented.
Great teacher. Does the most to help his students pass class. Gave out extra credit many times.
Slowest moving math class I have ever taken. If you just show up to class, take notes, and do the "optional" homework and practice materials he posts on his website, you will most likely get an A. He also holds office hours almost every day, and will answer any question you have. Definitely recommend if you need to get your business calc credit.
Dr. D is hands down best professor in the math department at Butler. He truly cares about all of his students & makes sure they succeed. He explains everything clearly & lets use all of your notes on quizzes. Gives insane amounts of extra credit & allows retakes on every test. He makes you want to come to class & is so extremely welcoming. TAKE HIM
He was passionate about the material and really wanted to see his students succeed. I personally struggled with this class but he was able to get me help so i could do better.
As long as you keep up on the homework and study for the tests you should be fine. Quizzes are open note.
Duane's teaching style was not for me. He has a lot of mixed reviews. While his quizzes are open note, the question is so complicated you don't even know what kind of answer he is looking for half the time. He can also be a bit harsh at times. Switched my major after taking this class.
Professor Leatherman is such a sweet person. He definitely cares about students' success, and sometimes this comes across even a little bit harsh. Homework is optional and quizzes are open note. He has office hours everyday to get help. If you put in the work, you should be able to do well in his class.
Prof. Leatherman was a caring teacher who was always reachable through text or office hours. He was very helpful and offered lots of extra credit. The class was not too difficult, and he organized the tests and quizzes very well. The only downside is sometimes he would rush at the end of class to include everything. But he was a great math teacher.
Prof. Leatherman is a great person. You can tell he really cares about his students. He gets off topic very easily and can be a bit harsh, but he is funny. It is highly recommended to do the worksheets to be prepared. He is always available in his office. Not too hard if you had a good calc background.
Prof Leather enjoys Butler and teaching so much. While he might get off topic sometimes and go into a rabbit hole, you will be able to see he genuinely wants for everyone to understand the content. He lets you drop your three lowest quiz grades, gives extra points on the quizzes and tests. While worksheets aren't required, I suggest doing them.
Leatherman is a great teacher. He really cares about his students' success. He provides practice tests, which are exactly like the actual tests. The class is a lot of work if you have never taken a calc class before. He doesn't use Canvas, so you have to keep track of your own grade - or wait until after a test to see your grade in the course.
Doing the homework and practice tests are essential to be successful in his class. Even though he grades quizzes and tests for credit, he drops your three lowest quiz scores at the end of the semester. Prof. L is such a sweetheart and cares about your success in the class. Go to his office hours; he is always willing to help you understand calc.
Super laid-back guy, was always willing to help. Doing homework is not graded but essential for preparing for tests/quizzes. Homework is just like quizzes and practice tests are just like tests. Quizzes about every week, tests every couple of weeks. Drops three lowest quizzes.
Business calc is just a hard class in general especially if you haven't taken calc. He takes probably 20 minutes to set up and get things organized before starting. Then you do 1 or 2 examples everyday. you are expected to do most outside class. do the worksheets!!! a quiz basically every other class, 5 exams total. good guy, not a great teacher.
Highest grade I've received at Butler so far. Between extra credit from exams and quizzes, finished the class with a 102%. Didn't get below a 95 on a single exam. And math isn't even my strong suit. You won't struggle if you do the homework. The study guides are basically the exams with different numbers.
Leatherman is a great professor. He cares about you as a student and the course itself. I will say there are a bunch of quizzes and you kind of lose track. One week we had 4 quizzes in a week. It gets to be a lot. He isn't the greatest at explaining things, if you don't get something and ask he can make you feel dumb, but overall he's helpful.
He will not excuse an absence without a doctors note no matter the circumstances for which you missed, for example I missed because my grandpa got diagnosed with cancer and he did not care at all. He is just very rude and unwilling to work with students and does things to make students lives more difficult.
Had to miss class for funeral and asked if I planned the funeral in order to miss class. Only grades are tests and quizzes. Says he is a lenient grader but almost never gives partial credit. Docks grade if you miss more than 3 days. Has good office hours, but if you go and ask too many questions he will question your education.
I had him for MA104, I found the class to be very easy to pass and understand. He makes study guides for everything except the final so as long as you do those. you WILL pass the class. He is always willing to help and encourages the math lab. I found that as long as you do well and respect him, he will be nice to you. Do the homework/practice test
Prof Leatherman is a great person and although some people may complain about his teaching style I found it to be beneficial. Homework isn't graded but make sure to do it because the problems are very close to the ones on every quiz and test. Attendance is mandatory but class is taught like a lecture.
Prof L is a sweetheart who genuinely wants students to succeed. While the class is challenging, the dropped quizzes and extra credit opportunities make it manageable. Using Unstuck ai and working through practice problems are key to doing well.
DO NOT TAKE CLASS WITH THIS MAN. Unless you enjoy being tortured in class for 50 minutes and him leaving barely any time for quizzes at the end, take the course with anyone else. If you miss class for whatever reason or your class performs poorly on a quiz and/or test, be prepared to face his wrath.
DO NOT TAKE CLASS WITH HIM!!! He gets SO MAD when the class doesn't do great on an exam/quiz, and doesn't give you enough time. He just isn't good at his job and is out of touch with students.
Prof Leatherman made me so scared to go to class. He's not afraid to call out a student for doing something incorrectly or flat out tell their grade to the whole class. Prepare for his wrath when the class does poorly because you won't hear the end of it. He gets furious when we mess up. He also drops the 3 lowest quiz scores. Good office hours.
Spent majority of the class on financial math, but the final was majority calculus which we only covered for a month.
Prof. Leatherman Biz Calc class was my first ever class at Butler. It sucked. Prof. Leatherman as a person is a cool guy and was an alright professor. But he was so test and quiz heavy it was hard to breathe in that class. He also would air out students problems to the entire class. Private stuff, he would openly air out students struggles. Avoid!
Professor L was a super good mentor and professor. He gave plenty of mercy when it came to tests and quizzes if he realized that you were behind. He was super supportive of math understanding because in 104 you really have to prepare for 105. He prepares well and will get you through calculus. Also, super good at computer science.
Professor Leather is THE BEST!!!!! I absolutely suck at math and he will do ANYTHING to help you get the best grade possible. He lets you retake tests for the average, drops 3 lowest quizzes at the end of the semester. He's so caring and sweet!! I rate him a 10/10! He will make you enjoy going to class. I LOVE Professor Leatherman!!
Prof Leatherman has been the best math teacher I have ever had. He gives a lot of quizzes, but if you do the worksheets he gives you, you will do great. He explains all the material well and always gives real business world examples to make the material easier to understand. He provides all the formulas needed for tests and quizzes. 10/10 recommend
The goat, cares about your success. if you put in the work, you"ll get good grades.
One of the most generous people I've met. However, his teaching is so disorganized and he overcomplicates pretty much everything. Calculus 1 is objectively easy, but his teaching throws you off. If you rely on organization and coherence, prepare for war-like levels of stress.
