He is a great teacher. He cares about the students and wants to help them learn. He is willing to help with assignments and will take time to help you understand the material. He provides timely feedback on assignments. Don't plan on an easy "A"; you will have to work for it, but it is not that hard
Good teacher overall. I didn't partically like the projects we had to do and especially didn't like him giving pop quizes all the time. The tests are not to bad if you study. He is a friendly guy and makes the class interesting.
Duane is a stud. you do a few easy assignments and take easy pop quizes. you do a lot of in class work but i actualy learned a lot and i hate writing. he is a real nice guy and actualy cares about the students. he knows his stuff and teaches you valuable things.

He is very understanding when situations come up.
AWESOME teacher... He is very clear in what he teaches and also has a great sense of humor. The class is relaxed and he curves the tests which are not hard anyway. I recomend him to anyone.
great teacher--i would highly recommend him.
This guy is Class A all the way! He is very knowledgable and has an open door policy. He is great to talk to one on one. Loved the class!
I don't know what every one is talking about. He is definitely one of the most disrespectful teachers I have ever known. He doesn't give me or any of the other students I know help when we need it. He doesn't keep promises he makes. I would strongly recommend avoiding him.
Mr. Miller is a great teacher. He knows a lot about the subject and he is willing to go the extra mile to help you if you do not understand. He has reviews before each test that are very helpful. If you show up to class and complete the simple projects he assigns, you will do well in his class.
Professor Miller is an excellent teacher. there is no guessing as to how he grades or what he expects. he is completely clear on what is expected and how work is graded. this is the first writing class that i have ever had that the grading is not biased at all. he is fair, and i learned ALOT. i am a better writing because of professor miller.
Good teacher- knows his subject very well. no guesswork on grades. Very helpful class. I wish I had taken this class before my english classes. It would have helped on the papers I had to write.
Great teacher, great guy. He is extremely knowledgable about writting. An A is not easy. I put in a fair amount of work and received a B+. You will greatly benefit from taking this class. You will be a better writer. Gives good reviews before each test.
Class section should tell you how long ago I went to UVSC. Duane was a teacher that taught you something you can actually use. Like most say, it wasn't easy. An A is very attainable, but you can't miss class. I have used what I learned in the class every week of my career
See the book you bought for this class? Go return it. I haven't read one page from the book and have an A. Great teacher. Has extensive knowledge of the subject and does nothing but give notes and explain them. Tests are right from the notes and quizzes are as well. Tests in class. Come everyday and listen for a great class and good grade. dm
Mr. Miller is one of the best teachers I have had in my life! I went into the class expecting to hate it, but it was so useful and I have learned a LOT! He is very thourough, makes things very clear, and definitely knows his stuff. He follows the syllabus and lectures are easy to take notes on. Attend every class, do the work, and you'll get an A.
He is a good teacher and willing to help but strict at grading. Grammar is way more important than content. It is easy to pass the class but getting an A is very difficult. Tests were fair and he reviewed for all of them. The final paper is a group project and 15 pages long. Do bad on the grammar pre-test, you'll be glad you did, seriously.
I though this class was way easy. You don't need to buy the book because he gives you all the notes for the quizes and tests. I learned a lot from him and thought he was a great teacher. Class isn't mandatory but he gives pop quizes so if you don't go you lose points.
He was great I really enjoyed him. He really helped my english and I enjoyed his teaching style. He was understanding of my interests and dislikes and appreciated feedback from students.
Dont buy the book for this class. I dont even know where mine is cause I never touched it after buying it. Its important to attend class as his tests and his qiuzzes are based off them exclusively. Hes a nice guy and easy to listen to. Always willing to help. I really liked his teaching style.
Business Communications. On the first day he said that "an A was not easy." Usually, I would have dropped the class right there. If you are more interested in getting knowledge than compulsively getting A's for a BYU transfer, this course is for you. Truly, I learned a lot and am already using it in real-life.
Good teacher
I liked this teacher alot. He wasn't boring and I learned a good amount. He isn't to strict, his attitude is basically your responsible.
Excellent Teacher! I never even opened my book, he uses his Power Point presentations. He has a quiz every week based on what he talked about in the power points, so you have to be there every day. Really easy teacher, and he's genuinely interested in helping his students succeed. i would Highly recommend him.
This teacher is by far the hardest grading teacher I have ever seen in my life. The guy is sooo mono tone and teaches like he's reading a script. The guys knows his stuff but BOARING oh man. Tonz of work in this class and a freaking joke of a final.Sucks!
Professor Miller is a cool guy and very nice but I really hated his tests. You could study the slides all night and still miss some cause the questions would have multiple right answers. He grades his papers way too hard. Be there every day and study the material from the day before cause he has quizzes quite often.
Great teacher, lots of tests, but they are very easy. Don't buy the book because he uses powerpoints with everything you need to know. If you go to class and do the quizes it is an easy a
No suprises on my grade. His expectations are clear and you know exactly what's expected of you. You get the grade you earn. Attendance is not required, but he gives random quizes, so it's a good thing to go to class.
He is an excellent teacher!! i believe you'll recieve an A+
Difficult class
It is not hard to do well in the class, but getting an A requires some work and study. I learned a lot from his class, great teacher.
This class taught me more about english than all the english classes I have had thus far, and I took all the developmental english classes this school has to offer. Be ready to take your english skills to a whole new level. He wrote his own study guide for the class so the book is not required.
Great Teacher!
Mr. Miller is outstanding. He teaches at UVU and BYU for obvious reasons. Everything taught in the class is of worth for the students. Go to class, pay attention, do your assignments, and you will be successful. The class is not easy but you will learn a lot. I would definately take another class from him.
Professor Miller was outstanding! He is very clear and his expectations are clear too. I honestly learned more about english and grammar in his class than I have in any other ENGLISH class I have ever taken! And it wasn't near as boring as any of those english classes! Great teacher, I HIGHLY recommend Professor Miller!
Professor Miller is great. His textbooks are cheap and good reading. His classes are straight forward and useful. If you do your presentations you should pass with a good grade. With a little effort you can get an "A", Take from him you won't regret it. Attendance is not require unless it is presentation day. Then your attendance affects your grade
TAKE THIS CLASS!!! He's amazing.
Duane is an awesome teacher. I would recommend him for any class. The problem with this class was summer block. Not a class to take in summer. It requires a lot of work. Would not be bad in normal semester. Learned more about english and grammar than I had learned in all my english classes. Amazing teacher
Business Communications is an English class on steroids! be prepared to work hard in this class, He Grades real hard and he WILL find ALL the mistakes in your work. Awesome teacher though he will help you with anything you just need to put the effort into seeing him if you need help.
Best teacher I have ever had. I learned more from him about grammar and writing in that one semester than I did in all of my high school years. Do what he asks, and you will learn tons and get a good grade. I can't say enough good about him.
I had him for Bus communications and presentations and I loved coming to class. Its interesting stuff and he's a good teacher, always on the student's side... within obvious reason I'd assume.
He is a great teacher. His quizzes are sometimes a little untimely so those pulled my grades down a bit, but he is great. I'll take a class from him again if the opportunity comes along.
super nice guy. grades a little tough, but definitely fair. very helpful. just make sure you actually try to do well in your presentations and youll do fine. would definitely recommend.
Awesome professor. Get ready to work hard and present. I have literally seen my speaking skills improve because of this class! He is a great professor, very well organized, helpful and easy to understand. He practices what he preaches and helps you improve and stretch yourself.
Decent class, a lot of work, and poorly written tests... it's seriously impossible to get an A, but almost impossible not to get anything lower than a B... Interesting... Good teacher. He doesn't use a textbook like he says
I had Duane for Business Writing. I thought he was an absolute great TEACHER, He knows how to actually teach. No he doesn't hand out A's like candy.I received a B+ just like I deserved but more importantly I learned some things. He is extremely organized and helpful. A great asset to the University.
Professor Miller is an amazing teacher. His class will teach you everything you never learned about writing. Make sure you go to class and spend time on your homework. He lets you know what he expects from you and is very organized. One of the best teachers at UVU.
He's a good professor. I took this class in the summer. It moved very quickly. He's very strict on grading, so make sure you build a strong foundation of grammar and punctuation when in the first part of the semester. No textbook, and he reviews the tests which aren't hard to get a good grade on. He's helpful and very clear.
Awesome teacher. Would and already have recommended this class
Very easy class. All the book work is in the first two weeks of class. Presentation can be interesting and exciting if the topics are completely thought out.
All of the textbook use will be in the beginning of the semester, but he also goes over it in class. Professor miller is critical in a kind way. The class was great and truly helped me open up in front of other which I really needed! The presentations are pretty cool, as long as people have prepared. MAKE SURE you go to others presentation.
He is awesome! You do have to put in effort to pass his class, but it is pretty simple stuff. He kept class interesting. He cares about all of his students and wants them to succeed. I would definitely take a class from him again!
He's a good teacher. The course was not really interesting, so you can't blame him for the material covered in the class. Also, he is a though grader. You will have to work, it's not an easy A.
Learned a lot from this course--he's a solid teacher. Very tough grader. He (it seemed) tends to focus 100% on having the class average to a "B" and not really focusing on the students or their needs 100% of the time. I would recommend him if you are looking to learn. I wouldn't recommend him if you are looking for an "A"
Dr. Miller is one of the most informative teachers I have ever taken a class from. He knows english grammar better than pretty much any teacher I have had in my life. He will go over what you have done wrong in detail for you and bases his grading purely on your content. I liked his class a lot.
Professor Miller makes a simple subject seem to be way hard. He does it for good reasoning though because he wants you to actually learn from his class. Get ahead early in the semester and make sure to be ready for his feedback about what you did wrong so you can fix it. Otherwise, he is a hilarious guy and made class enjoyable!
Never understood writing principles as well as I did after this class. Great professor.
Professor Miller is a great teacher he knows about the material, if you have questions he is going to help you. Class is not mandatory but if you miss a lot you'll probably going to fail because he does surprise quizzes. There are not extra credit opportunities. If you do all your assignments you will pass. I never bought the book and passed.
Very good teacher. I learned a ton about business grammar, writing top notch business letters, and he's very nice and will help you with anything you need. I learned more in this class than I did in any other English class i have taken. You can't miss a day though, every day counts as the lectures are exactly what's on the tests.
This is my favorite class that I have ever taken. Duane is a great guy and is super funny! He makes the class very applicable to life. He is the best teacher I've had at UVU! He knows his punctuation, and you will too by the end of the semester. I only received a B+, because I did poorly with punctuation the first month of class. Take him!
The punctuation part of his class is literally impossible, nobody does well. Once that's done though, the class is survivable and most people can pull off at least a B.
Probably the hardest grader I've ever encountered. He makes it almost impossible to get an A. But with that being said he is a really good teacher and you definitely learn a lot in his class.
Prof. Miller is passionate about the subject and knows it very well. He understands that writing in the business world isn't the same as writing for an English class. He teaches you exactly what you need to know and tests you on it quickly. He's a nice guy. Tough grader (never gives perfect scores), but his class isn't necessarily too difficult.
Very knowledge man. Has my fullest respect. He doesn't mess around or wast time in class. It's a tough class but you can definitely pass if you work for it. I actually felt like I learned how to use grammar for once in my life. Learned a lot, worked hard. There is a big project but he gives lots of in class time to work on it.
Super good professor. Teaches clearly but does his best to challenge the students. There is lots of group work and a big project at the end.
Professor Miller is great! The class is tough, and he makes you work for it, but you walk away learning a ton. You can get by putting some things off to the last minute, but the points do add up in the end and could cost you from getting the grade you're shooting for.
Miller is one of my favorite professors of all time! He is tough, but you will learn so much from the class. I have never worked so hard for a B+ but it taught me a lot. Utilize the writing lab, I went for basically every paper and it helped me catch a lot of small errors. He is a funny guy, but still teaches a lot. Highly recommend!!!
Awesome balance between learning and being realistic about what you will use in a real career. I would recommend him for sure.
Duane is an incredible professor. I've never had a teacher that I respected so much. I learned so much over the 3 months of the class. He is a tough grader, but do your best and you will be fine. TIP: Purposely fail the intro grammar test (not for a grade) because in the end he gives the same test and he gives the difference of points as extra cred
I would avoid Duane if you can. He is one of those professors that does not like to give an A grade on anything. Tons of assignments that are unnecessary. He has been teaching this class forever so his lectures are all memorized and he is very boring. If you're looking to learn something or want an easy A I would look for a different teacher.
I have taken two courses from Professor Miller. He is tough grader but wants to see his students succeed.
A class on presentations was probably my worst fear at the start of this class, but its worth taking sooner than later. Professor Miller gives great constructive criticism that - if applied - can improve your technique immensely. There are two individual presentations and one group presentation in the class. Basically, if you try youll get an A.
This class was a hybrid class and was not too bad of a class. Didn't read textbook but it would help a ton with the tests. Showing up to class on time and putting time into the homework helps a ton. Tough at grading the written assignments so taking them to the writing center will help your grade.
This was one of my favorite classes I've taken at UVU. Mr. Miller is tough with grading, so be sure to put time and effort into the assignments. As long as you show up to class, pay attention, and take notes, you should do just fine.
I took this class as a block in summer so obviously it was a little hard since he was combining 2 normal classes into one. Overall not too bad, quizzes every so often, tests are all scan-tron, final is not comprehensive. One important group paper. He's pretty funny, says his goal is to offend everyone at least once through the class.
He is an okay teacher, although never consistent about the grammar rules he enforces. He would teach one thing and I would get it wrong on my assignments. His first words in class were, "Its my goal to offend each of you at least once this semester." He was available outside of class though. Be ready to write a 15 page paper with 4 other people.
MKTG2390- Prof. Miller gives good feedback after each presentation and has a good sense of humor. I didn't really like how he made us dress up for most presentations, I get why he does it but it's unnecessary.
Duane is an excellent professor, and I highly recommend you take this class from him. The beginning of the semester was difficult because he did a review of all grammar/punctuation rules that you should have learned previously. If you struggle at the beginning, do not panic! He's accessible during his office hours, and the writing lab is helpful.
If you want to be a better presenter, you should take this class from Duane. He and your fellow students will openly critique your presentations. I know the thought of criticism sounds scary, but Duane creates a pretty safe environment. Be prepared to present with a group for the final presentation; you will choose the students with whom you work.
Had to drop his class to save my GPA. Literally the hardest teacher I've EVER HAD! The WSB Writing lab to go get help said, "He does things very differently from all the other teachers, so we can only help you to a certain point." Harsh grader. In class he said, "Don't expect to pass.. he grades diff. to make students retake the class."
Prof. Miller's online class had no lessons and no instruction. His writing feedback was harsh and very critical. He had study guides for the test but expect this class to be entirely self-taught. No clear grading criteria. I'm knowledgable about writing but I still struggled to meet his expectations. Don't take this professor unless you have to.
This class honestly wasn't that bad. There wasn't many assignments, but he did make us do group projects. He is a great teacher and expects you to work hard and do your best. Some people may think he's a tough teacher but I feel like he really prepares you to be successful in the business world. Hes great at responding and helping.
This professor is really good. He is very thorough and grades pretty hard, but the info is pretty important. COVID made it pretty hard, but the class wasn't awful.
I took both Business Writing and Presentations classes from this professor and it felt like a pretty easy A in both of them. You'll have a group project due by the end of the semester, but his exams and quizzes are really not difficult. He's a bit disorganized, but he's very helpful.
I loved Professor Miller! He is very wise and direct. I loved this class because I learned how to be exactly to the point in written business communication. I took the class over a year ago, and it has been the most helpful class in the jobs I have had since. The assignments provide real life examples that you will use all the time in business.
