Participation is required on speech making. Showing up late isnt tolerated out of respect for the students giving speeches. Follow the speech rubrics very carefully and get an easy A!

Just commit to the assignments, show up, and you will get an A! Unless you are a corpse there is no way you can't pass this class without at least a B, but it's an easy A for sure.

I have always been afraid of speaking in front of a large audience but with Duane as a professor he really gives you the confidence to do so. Finding an audience was the hard part, but my classmates and I got together to film our speeches. I learned so much in his class and I feel it made me a better student.

Professor Smith relays the message of preparation is key to success, especially for COMM101 , you do need to prepare and manage your time wisely and he gives you the time for that, if you put off assignments til the end you will really be screwed. I found it hard to get acces to the Professor in zoom or in person but emails are fast response, he sends you directions by copy and paste for you to read to get answers to questions. Very responsive teacher, assignments were easy to follow, simple, and not overwhelming. I would recommend.

Professor Smith is a great, supportive, and helpful professor! Every week, we had to complete a few assignments that were due at the end of the week and you're free to message him with any questions and he will get back to you pretty quickly. If you read all the directions thoroughly and simply follow them by giving it your all, it will pay off! :)

Professor Duane Smith is an exceptional and kind instructor. He is available for office hours, is quick to respond to emails, and offers much support and encouragement. His assignments vary from class discussions to presentations where students are given an ample amount of time to complete them and are able to message him with any concerns.

If you put in the effort, I guarantee you will come out of it a better public speaker (even in the online format, which is what I took). Flow of the course is easy to follow, highly recommend. He is always checking in on students to see if they need anything and you can tell he cares about you doing well, leaving very helpful feedback on speeches.

Professor Smith is great! His class is very clear, organized, and motivational. He provides feedback on your work and gives a clear outline for the 5 speeches in class. He is also easy to contact through Canvas email and responds quickly. I will say that you are expected to have in-person audience members watching you during your speeches.

If you get the chance to take a class with this professor DO IT! Just be ready to put in the work and manage your time well. Keep in mind, you'll need an in-person audience of four for all speeches or you will lose points. He also truly cares about our success, but his communication style can be harsh or insensitive at times. Other than that, 10/10

very simple directions, no room for confusion. however, the class is not an easy A and takes some time to prepare and practice each speech. online format: record in front of max 5 people (can use note cards). so long as you dont spew nonsense and pretend to care, A is very doable. just do as he instructs and you will earn it. do extra credit

Follow directions, make an effort, reach out to him if you need help! Lots of speech writing, have a live audience, discussion heavy. Have fun & learn. The grade will determine the effort put into the class.

We had engaging class discussions and used his own textbook, which is very straightforward and helpful. This was a great professor, the instructions for all assignments were clear and if there was anything confusing it was easy to send an email for clarification. He responded really fast to emails, really fast. He gives good feedback and made it easy to come talk to him. The class itself wasn't hard but you did have to put in the work.
