do not take this teacher. same topic all semester. VERY boring. she is very vague on what she wants in a paper and if u ask one question she will spend the half the class explaining it but u still wont get the answer you are looking for.

Gray is a horrible teacher. she preeches on seeing both sides of the issue but lets her hispanic heritage get in the way of that. she tries to explain an assignment but only confuses you more. she only sees students during office hours which are during times that virtually everyone takes a class. unless youre a bleeding heart liberal dont take her.

I'm normally an A student but not her class. She wasn't very helpful and the only time she talks to people is when shes being sarcatstic and degrading. Does not clarify anything! The way she creates her lessons aren't really lessons at all. If you want to be scarred for life take gray.

English was one of my better subjects in high school however after taking Dr. Gray's class I HATE it. She is the worst teacher I've ever had. She deliberately humiliates you in front of the class. She is bad. I was excited to take an english class and she killed that. She pretends to care what you have to say, but she doesn't. Quite simply the worst professor I've had at West Valley. Communication was non-existent for the online class. She would grade in bunches and we would get feedback for several assignments at once. Her consistent comment was "you're not getting it." I had an A+ going into the final and she failed my paper so badly I ended up with a B+ in the class

I had to make a formal complaint because she never gave us any feedback all semester and then she graded us as if we should have known what she wanted. She will offer extra credit for attending a program and writing about it, but will give 0/100 if you don't agree with her opinion of the program. Failed over half our class.

One of the worst teachers I have ever had. She is utterly disorganized and confused, making it very difficult for us to understand what is expected. She gave over half the class 0/100 on a midterm essay, b/c she forgot to post the instructions. No point values are presented for assignments upfront. Her grading is completely arbitrary. She assigns essays every week on average about 800 words and expects a lot of research to be done. Never teaches anything in class. You do everything online one day at home then talk about it in class the next. Whenever you ask a question she says check online, and sometimes what she says doesn't match online and that confuses due dates. BEWARE

This class is more about following directions than it is about than it is about English. She can't help you be a better writer because her sole focus is making students follow her poorly conceived guidelines. You can write your heart out, but if you miss any guidelines or write an opinion that's contrary to hers, you get 0/100.

Took her online composition class. It was THE WORST online class I have every taken. She talks down to students, refuses to be specific when asked for explanations, and so much material missing from the class. Horrible experience. I would demand a refund if I could. It is not just me. Out of 30 students, only 10 remained by the end. Avoid.

She shouldn't teach an online class. She is an incredibly hard grader and very unclear with requirements. When you ask for an explanation it is completely different than what is written. She isn't there to see you succeed or help you thrive even when reaching out concerned.

Dr. Gray was the most difficult instructor I've encountered at West Valley. Her instructions were unclear, she set impossible standards, she did not offer feedback in a timely manner, her critiques were unnecessarily harsh, and most importantly, she discouraged any true form of written expression. She is unclear. I took this class thinking it would be what was described, a class where you write essays and view text critically. It wasn't. It's a class where students present and she constantly interrupts and gives her feedback, which is usually "you forgot this..." It's more like a Gender Studies class that focuses a lot around feminism.

As an English major near graduation and having taken many other English teachers at WVC, Dr. Gray has been my least favorite. Although she is a powerful woman, she is a tough teacher and her class consisted of weekly readings (3+hr) and a ton of presentations, on which she grades harshly and puts you down if you are wrong! Not worth all the work!

I was hoping these comments about Dr. Grays class were wrong. After Dr. Gray had actually graded my papers it was too late to revise anything. She failed all of my papers. I contacted her for help and she left me a passive aggressive email that was cold and disengaging. Hopefully she can improve her teaching and find some passion about her work.

Hands down the WORST teacher I have had. She likes to shut down anyone who doesn't have her exact opinion. The first book we read was so vulgar, demeaning, and flat out gross that I physically felt nauseous reading it. When contacted, she said that I should have read the syllabus. She never directly answers questions and goes on tangents about herself. When I confronted her about a racially insensitive comment she made, she wasnt very apologetic and again, made it about herself.

Professor Gray was no help at making me feel comfortable in her classroom. Instead of supporting and acknowledging our efforts, she disregarded them and somehow managed to find problems with our thoughts and opinions. At points I felt scared to speak my mind. Her instructions are vague and she gets mad if we don't understand what shes asking for.

When a student out of this country explained they had difficulty writing due to the language barrier, she responded, "Well it's not rocket science". This is why I think she shouldn't be a teacher, no teacher should make their students feel stupid when they ask for help. Just please stay clear.

She made us write papers on current events based on VOX videos. For the final she had a VERY SPECIFIC outline down to the paragraph then accused me of plagiarizing another student because my 3rd page looked similar to someone else'. I had no idea what to do to fix it and her attitude was oh well to bad. Horrible first ever college class to take.

I have been a straight A student my entire educational career, and she is the one professor that provided so little feedback and graded so harshly according to rubrics unknown to us student, that I was afraid I wouldn't even PASS this class. This is a GE course at a community college, she needs to start acting like it.

She talks about borders non stop and i understand the class is about borders its just personally im not very into borders on her level she is very annoying and i hate this class. she has been working at west valley for a very long time and it show how much she hates her job. She uses the same horrible essay prompt for every paper you have to write in the class. She doesn't know what shes talking about and will argue with you about it.Don't take it!

for the love of god, dont take Gray's class. she's the most stubborn person i've ever met. she wont take suggestions or corrections, even when she's wrong. the prompts are stupid and redundant. she called me stupid in front of the whole class, and then told me i imagined the whole thing. she's also racist and said the n word in class but acts woke.

The class structure was very confusing. It was very difficult to follow the many, many assignments. The workload is unreal for an introductory class. Do not recommend.

The amount of work she has you doing for a 3 credit class is just ridiculous. Her grading is so inconsistent and her feedback is unhelpful or just plain rude. Her instructions on assignments are either overly complicated or so unclear and confusing that you don't know what you're supposed to be doing. Do not recommend.

This professor was a strange case. My personal experience with her was awful. She was one of those teachers who was stubborn when it comes to making students talk, and she was also extremely rude and downright mean to you if you were struggling. Too strict, she believes that since she taught at NYU, she's "the best" and no one can criticize her.

This teacher has to be one of the worst teachers I have ever had. Teacher would be the last thing I would call her as she immensely lacks actual teaching. She talks a lot, but it's a lot of nothing. When she goes over your work her feedback is greatly unhelpful. She teaches the way she thinks and doesn't even try to understand your thought process.

I forgot about enrolling and had to enroll on one of the last days. Her class was the only one left with multiple spots and that's for a reason. She insensitive to any situation that may be going on in your life whether you can help it or not. DON'T and i mean DO NOT take this class. Enroll in any other 1A english class that you can and do it quick

She is god awful. I had straight As through High School and a 4.3 GPA and this is the hardest class I have ever taken. Never enroll in her classes and she is very rude to her students. I thought I would be fine and people were overexaggerating how hard it was but they are not. Please listen and do not take Dr. Gray.

Dr Gray is a prof. at WV that is not only known among students as a poor educator but also among faculty as someone who only "attends graduation ceremonies to flaunt phd stripes". She is someone who is devoted to her own structure and self rather than her students, shows videos of herself traveling as "curriculum" and unnecessarily says the hard R.

It happened to her twice......why would you tell your students that on the first day of school? not only this but she is just rude and disrespectful. You can tell she really hates her job! I took her ETHN-001 3-week online course over winter break: 1) Class is mandatory to graduate, cannot pass/no pass. 2) An 83% in her class is considered a C. 3) She does not give feedback; she insults you. 4) Multiple errors with online tests: the correct answer being blank, duplicate answers. Avoid at all costs! Run!!

Gave me a ZERO on an essay I spent hours on (also, English is my best subject and I know I'm a good writer) all because I took the side of Palestine. Later on I realized this was probably because she takes her classes on trips to Israel... I even offered to rewrite it but she gave me the same score as someone who didn't do the assignment at all.

Took her online during Winter and it was interesting. Opened her class up by saying, No question is a dumb question, but didn't believe it as she degraded any students who asked even a simple question. Grading was also very suspect as you didn't understand what you should show and test were imcomplete. Her opinions are "facts" so be ready for that.

I would not take again.

I signed up for an English class. I received bare-bones English concepts, with a focus on borders. Nearly every assignment is a quiz with essays hidden, with little to no heads up, or time to prepare, and a rigid deadline that's at 5 instead of 11:59. The feedback she gives is far too vague, and she will say you missed the brief even if you met it.

Up until this prof, I loved English and writing. She gives extremely vague feedback on every assignment. I put TONS of work in, but got graded like I didn't try. She was tricky to get a hold of via email, even to request office hours due to overlap. I got help from my old English professor on my essays, and I still got bad grades. RUN, DON'T WALK!

Unfortunately, this teacher throws piles of reading material at you, then prompts you with a quiz on it every week. Give yourself at least 5 hours to complete because guess what… once you open it you have to complete it, and one (or more) question is a 650-700 word essay. She does NOT make her expectations clear when answering questions. Good luck.

it felt basically impossible to be able to make her satisfied with my work. No matter how much I tried to challenge myself to change my writing style and work flow, it was never good enough for her. It made me feel really dissuaded to want to participate, so much so that I ended up not completing any assignments for the semester.
