very nice, explains everything very clearly, and will help you w/ any problem
Prof. Culhan is a great math teacher. His explainations are always clear and if you have any questons, he is always happy to answer them before class, after class, during breaks, or anytime he is in his office. Although Math 10 is not the easiest course, Prof. Culhan definately makes the experience easier. Take good notes and do the HW and test reviews because all questions on tests come from examples he demonstrates in class.
He moves at a slower pace and will always ask if everyone understands. He is generous in grading. If you show effort in studying he will see it.
He is a really nice, cool, and respectfull teacher. He always asks if everyone understands. Homework was fair. But DON"T be fooled!! If you thought tha homwork was easy, and so you would pass the test, think again!! do not be too confident. that's all I can say, but overall as a teacher he is a Terriffic patient teacher.
Great guy! Step by step through each problem. He goes over any questions that were confusing from the h/w assignments. He is easy on the eyes. He is very positive and optimistic....he's kind of shy. Take him and you won't be sorry.
He knows the material very well! Explains every example step by step, and constantly asks if you need further explanation. He is very patient and nice. And as an added bonus, he is very cute.
Dr. Culhan is the best math professor that COD has to offer! His explanations for math concepts are superb, and he is available after class if extra help is needed. Math can be a challenging subject, and in addition his standards are high, but he is always very patient and helpful so if you need to learn the material, I would highly recommend him!!
He's just sexy!
Dr. Culhan is so helpful- He explains everything very clear and is always willing to help! He is quite but very cute! This may be a distracton though!
He's the best.. King of Math i can say.. Good looking guy.. Dress up so nicely every single day. He explains so good make u understand.. Again he's the best..
Dr. Culhan is a great professor for those who already know Intermediate Algebra. He explains the problems very well, but his tests are very hard. If your not good at math I suggest you take another teacher or get alot of tutoring for his class. If you are good at Algebra you should have no problem in his class.
Boring
This class is extremely hard and his tests are not at all easy, but he is a very good teacher and very cute. Love the way he dresses but he should stick to dark colors they look hott on him : )
Exams are hard and he grades harshly. His tests ranges from 70-80 points and if you miss a few questions which are worth 10 points each, then you probably fail the exam. He never answers his emails, like the rest of COD math DEPT. His problem is not covering the actual material and comes up with weird F-ing problems the class has never encountered
Exams are challenging, but fair. Very clear.
Bald, exams are hard, and doesnt grade homework which basically could have helped many people's final grade. unpredictable, and did i mention hard?
OMG SOOOO boring seriously it was so bad that I had to leave. he doesnt give study guides for test and test are so hard he also grades hard.
was always willing to answer questions. and very helpful
In Culhan's class, I felt i had understood every section that we went over. I am not a math person at all, but he broke down everything and made it understandable. He does assign a lot of homework and the test are hard, but I still feel he is the best math teacher I have had. Although i didnt pass with an A, i now feel more comfortable with math.
Great teacher in my opinion. He leaves lots of homeowrk from the book and online. Tests are hard but if you attend his class everyday, takes notes, do your homework, and study it will be fine. I failed it last semester but he explains the problems step by step and is there before &a fter class to help. I passed!
the best
Great teacher! If you stay up on your homework you'll do fine. There aren't any surprises on the tests and he is very fair when grading them... I got some answers wrong but received partial credit for the work I showed. He even stayed late after the rest of the class left and just two of us were still there trying to complete the class work.
Calculus 1a.I think he taught this subject very clearly.I usually never understand the theory part of math, but now I have a goodcomprehension of it.He's really good @ explaining something many different ways.He also give worksheets to work on at the end of lecture which help a lot.Only thing, his tests are difficult but it helps you understand it.
Great teacher! by far the best,i took him for math 40. very helpful in class. explains things very well and he is more than willing to help before and after class if you need it.
Most precise teacher ive had yet
The only challenge are his tricky exams. Other than that, his lectures are clear, willing to help before and after class.
Very smart guy, knows his stuff really well. Homework is simple but his test are very tricky. Don't hesitate to ask questions he is always willing to help.
The best Prof in COD. Pretty easy test if you study. Homework is a part of grade, so if you do it you get min a B
The best math Prof in COD. Pretty easy test if you study. Homework is a part of grade, so if you do it you get min a B
Very hard test!!
If you go to class everyday then you will/should do very well on the tests. He writes out all of his notes on the board and pretty much expalins everything in complete detail. If you ever have a question he will be glad to help you out. The tests are semi hard. He makes you apply what you learned in class to certain problems. It was a good class!
I had a C in MATH 40 up until the second half of the semester. That was without any help from Dustin Culhan. He completely ignores his online classes. He does not give you any material or respond to your e-mails when asking for help. All the things I needed help with caught up with me the 2nd half and inevitably kept me from passing.
Great teacher! I ended up with a C in the class only because I knew I had a high B and I blew off studying for the last test of the semester as well as the final and I failed both but I knew I would pass the class, regardless. He doesn't give study guides but he does review the material very often! Let us out early too! Gonna take MATH 005 with him
Anything he writes on the board, the student must learn the Ins and Outs of that. He is very helpful during his office hours and in class. His exams are not a surprise, albeit difficult to solve, but doable.
Professor Culhan is the man. Don't expect an easy A or B. We're college students and we have to work for our grades. All of his notes should be considered Gold. Ask questions, work hard, GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS (Extremely helpful) and chances are you will do great.
I was excited in taking this class but when i took it with Culhan, that all dropped in the water. He gives online homework, at home homework; So much homework that you don't even get a chance to study and accomplish receiving some knowledge before a test! I was literary forced to drop out. Compared to other math professors, he is the worst!!!
My experience was great and wish I was taking Math 012 with him for spring 2013. I am not sure how people can complain about him not taking questions. He always took hw questions before class, always answered my questions during his office hours, and gave extra credit on the last 2 tests and 20 extra points on the final! He is smart and generous!
Overall I felt like this class was hard, but definitely doable. There is a lot of homework, but do not worry about doing it all because everything you have to know, he covers in lecture. My advice to anyone taking this class is to learn anything he writes on the board and use your notes to study instead of using the homework.
Dr. Culhan is an amazing professor. The class is not easy at all, but he does everything he can to help you & you can ask as many questions as your heart desires. He's really nice & super smart. He wants you to know & understand Math just like he does. He takes role & uses the book a lot. Do the online HW, because that 5% will come in handy.
I took Culhan for PreCal and the material can get a little hard especially if you dont keep up with hw, but he is very clear and helpful so its up to you if pass. Do recommend, he knows what he is doing and does want you to do good. Study for tests though because they could be tricky, but the final seemed to be easier though.
Unbelievably hard class. Test are crazy difficult with questions that were not gone over or in the book. If you want to pass this class, find another professor!
So i gotta be fair, the class wasnt easy as it is the second semester calculus,he explained everything fairly and never left one point without letting each student understand. He is extremely knowledgeable about the subject.the class wasnt easy for me,but if you want to understand, take his class.he isnt funny, but he is calm and gives you confidence
This professor is great. He's great with teaching the lesson and helpful to his students. Don't be afraid to ask questions in class. Just letting you know now that his test are extremely hard, but if study you'll be fine. I recommend doing the homework he assigns you even though it's not required.
Dear Lord this man is so boring. No personality, very dull and extremely low monotone voice. If the teacher were replaced with a robot at least the robot would be interesting.
Horrible professor. The book chosen has incorrect answers, there is no lab, no practice, no homework. Only lecture. Test are extremely hard, with no calculator or guidance.
He is an incredible professor. His lecture is quite dry but he's such a sweet person. It's absolutely clear that he has a dedication to his work which some professors don't. He takes every question seriously and has the nicest approach to answering some DUMB questions. Unlike some teachers, he does not boast his knowledge and Doctorate. He's great.
Such a nice guy, but really hard class! Totally blindsided by the test material. Safest bet is to study EVERY SINGLE problem in the book. Which is full of incorrect answers and typos. He does not take anything except the score YOU make in account for your grade. Attendance and effort don't matter. STUDY STUDY STUDY!!!!
If you enjoy math and are exited to learn, take Culhan. You will be happy you did. Conversely, If you don't care for math or just want to get a C, don't take Culhan. Quizzes are verbatim from text. Tests are a little more challenging, but still reflect the homework/lecture. He takes questions at the beginning of class. He has neat handwriting.
Very knowledgeable and always willing to help. He requires a deep understanding of the concepts.
Really good teacher. Homework was a lot but it's only worth 10 points. Make sure to do good on tests.
Best Math Professor I've ever had. Be prepared for a lot of homework though.
Really exceptional professor. He is clear and deliberate in the way he presents information. He has been my favorite professor. He assigns a lot of homework and the tests are hard, but if you show up to class and pay attention, you can learn a lot. Do all the homework. He will put a question or two exactly as written in the book on the test.
Exams are tough. You need to understand material very well or else you will have a hard time with exams and passing the course. don't be fooled by homework, exams are tough. Dedicate time and effort if you want to pass.
I struggled with language as a foreigner, but never had any challenge grasping this professor's lectures. He knows how to feed, and watches his speed during lectures to walk along side his students level of understanding without necessarily compromising expected length of course for the semester. Overall, he is a good mentor!
Professor Dustin was pretty good. He gave us opportunities to get extra credit and raise our grade, but we had to take the time to do it. Labs were sometimes very difficult, but after you finished you could leave. 4 test + the final and they were not easy. Study, do the homework and show up. Wasn't the easiest, but I actually learned!
Professor Culhan lectures well and is helpful during lab time. If you struggle with math and cannot go to the math lab for help, take a different professor.
No textbook, used Webassign Lectures are on point, goes into detail. He wont waste time, very serious about giving you the information. Ton of homework(which is only 10%), but doing it will only ensure you get A's on the test, were the majority of your grade comes from. I recommend him if you want to learn, but not an easy A. Truly a professional.
His tests are pure evil.
He presents the material in a step by step approach. Clear, concise, and patient professor that encourages questions, in-class participation, and group discussion during labs. Great approach and delivery of knowledge. Student just has to show up and do homework.
Great professor! very chill. Just show up to class, do the homework, and study! His test can be difficult but if you study all his course materials you should be just fine.
The labs that we did each lesson were always about topics from two or three days before, that was very confusing. The homework was in my view way too much and even if you did it all, you only got 10 percent of the final grade for it. The tests were also pretty comprehensive and hard to study for because of the widespread content.
Dr. Culhan spends about 1 day going over a section. Continually asks if anyone has ANY questions, so IF YOU DON'T, ASK! However, he does not hold you hand, and you should expect a somewhat arduous class, as is sometimes the nature of math. Show up, understand the material. Will assign in class lab-work to see what you have retained.
I had to drop this class so my 4.0 wouldn't be ruined. Don't waste your time attempting this class like I did. I went to office hours and did the homework but was still going to fail the class.
He's a nice enough person but class is so boring. If I had a chance to choose again I would opt for someone more stimulating and more frequent class meetings. You definitely need to buy a book and the tests are hard to study for because of the 10 question structure. Not an easy A at all, a really tough C.
This is a really tough class. Culhan lectured pretty well, but his tests were very tough. There was a couple instances where I felt like he gave us versions of problems on the test that never practiced. I honestly have to recommend Graff over him if you are able to take her. I was able to pass with a 85, which is my 2nd B at COD (45 units total).
Good teacher, knows his stuff. I passed his PreCalc class with a high A. It really wasn't too bad. I HIGHLY recommend doing math everyday and doing more problems than what he assigns for HW. Funnny in a subtle way. Not very responsive to E-mails, but always down to help you out if you have a question. I'd definitely recommend.
Culhan is extremely tough! He is always willing to answer questions and help however, if you arent GREAT at math, get another professor! It is insanely hard for one who struggles.
horrible teacher in my opinion. For everyone who gave this teacher a high rating; either are experts at math or lying.
He is VERY tough. Over half the class dropped. I struggle with math so I had to drop too. If you're good at it I'm sure you can get a good grade. If you struggle like myself, he might not be the best. Tests are very hard and there is lots of homework. He is always there to help though.
I enjoy having the handwritten homework due the day of the exam. It allowed me to move at my own pace. I never felt rushed to turn in an assignment I didn't understand. This is helpful for students that need to work to afford college. We work weekends and have the weekdays to catch up. To those who NEED the stress of due dates... like why?
if you are bad with math DO NOT waste your time taking this professor, i took Trig with him and he never allowed us to use a calculator. the chapter test look nothing like the homework from the book. tells you to make sure you know this and that, the day of the test none of that is one the test. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME
Excellent Professor. Yes his exams are difficult but if youre doing all the suggested homework, going to office hours, asking questions in class youll be OK. Lot of algebra & geometry comes back so review that before class starts to make your life easier. If you need to develop your math skills and need precalc/calc this class will help you.
This guy is great! Professor Culhan is a great teacher for those who like math or are math-related majors. His tests are HARD, but if you are willing to really put in the effort then you shouldn't have a problem. Do every homework problem and make sure to practice those application problems in the textbook; very important for the exams!
One of the better trig professors at COD. Unlike other professors at COD, Culhan's exams match what he lectures on in class. As long as you can master the application problems he assigns, and understand the basic concepts you should be fine. It's also great that he gives a homework quiz once a week instead of collecting it regularly.
Ive never worked harder for any class, and Im a STEM major. Culhan is challenging, but sharpens every weak point you have mathematically, so take the time to fix any fundamentals, do all the homework, and ask questions in office hours. He cares about students and you will learn a LOT! One of my favorite professors, I actually like math now!
He never really explained in his lectures. He would let others blurt out answers, and then he would move on. When I took this class a lot of people dropped it. I wasnt the only one who didnt understand what was going on.
Really tough teacher !!! He's good at explaining but when it comes to the test he tests you on topics he didn't review with you in class & gives tons of hw !!! Probably only like 5 students stayed in his class the rest dropped
Culhan is not a bad professor but not my first choice. He's quite soft spoken, and his lectures can feel hard to follow. His tests were quite difficult. With all that being said, none of these qualities are out of the ordinary for the math professors at COD so for that reason Culhan is a fair choice. He has a cool personality too :)
Dont my grade discourage you. This is an amazing teacher, my older brother took his class and so did and i intend on taking his calc course and retaking his trig class. He is more then happy to wait or reteach something real quick. his tests are something else though. dont take his tests as a joke, go in prepared, AND STUDY.
A great Professor, explains things easy enough to understand. Grades homework and classwork based on how much work was put into the problem. Your grade is determined by how well you do on the exams, otherwise, the homework doesn't bump your grade up much so don't expect much. However, if you don't do them it will bring down your grade.
He taught very precisely and was always open to help us. Took 3 tests and they were not easy. You need to have strong arithmetic skills. Try to do your homework as soon as possible. Since the test grade is VERY heavy, you may want to solve all the examples in the textbook and homework problems before the test.
Professor Culhan strongest asset is his lectures, he is very clear and makes the material very understandable. Offers one extra credit question on every test (3 test). Test are not difficult if you study notes and his lab problems thoroughly. Doesn't allow calculators, but honestly don't need them. One of the best at math professors at COD.
Amazing lectures and very helpful. He gives test reviews for each test and is very helpful when asking questions. He gives partial credit on exams and has a bonus question for extra credit. Overall a very nice and knowledgeable professor.
Has a slightly amusing speech impediment pronouncing c and k but otherwise a great professor. Hes ready to answer questions and his class is structured well, but you really do have to pay attention because I feel like once a topic is covered he doesn't go back often so you have to pick it up right away or get left behind. Never felt unfair though.
Very fair, kind grader, great responder, one on the best at cod ! Thank you for helping my math skills
