great class. dusty is a cool guy.
Very good class. Dusty's funny, interesting, engaging, and an overall cool guy.
He is probably one of my all time favorite teachers. He is funny, cute, smart and you can totally relate to him. He knows his stuff and is young so he is up to date with what students are interested in so you can talk to him about pretty much anything. You learn really interesting stuff in a relaxed environment. Take his class, you won't be sorry!
Dustin is the man. This guy is very enthusiastic about anthropology. He is a great teacher, his lectures are interesting. He is funny and entertaining. He is super laid back. If you do your reading the tests are basic. I definitely plan on taking some more of his classes.
Annoying surfer dude accent, WAY too basic. You never never need to read anything, not college level, tells the same stories over and over, is nice but very boring. Really horrible videos shown in class. Has very little worldly experience.
Great teacher, really enthusiastic about the subject. Really laid back atmosphere. Overall great class.
I would recommend this class to anyone remotely interested in the social sciences. He uses a lot of different teaching methods, has interesting reading materials a couple short papers and presentations and really easy tests. The class was awesome and I learned a lot, and Dusty created a really laid back and fun environment.
Dusty is really enthusiastic about archaeology and a really cool guy. He cares a lot about his students. I considered him to be one of my mentors through cabrillo. I owe him a lot. He a great guy and he is one of the best teachers I've ever had.
I believe that I actually lost IQ points after attending this person's class. I mean, I understand trying to get normally uninterested students involved in learning, but this man was insufferably unprofessional and just plain stupid. I hated this class.
Dusty is the best teacher at Cabrillo!!!!!!!!!! Def take this class, very cool and he's super hot. He really loves what he does and it shows.
Great teacher! Saved everyone money by copying the sections from books and providing them for free online. Lots of information about California Natives in this class, and the papers were fun to write. Dusty was friendly and helpful to me as the student. He is one of the best teachers at Cabrillo!
Dusty is awesome
No Home work, not mandatory attendance, and are not hard if you do actually go to class and do the reading. No text. Awesome teacher, super cool guy and really flex on things. Love him!
Dusty is very enthusiastic about Archaeology/Anthropology. He's very experienced and extremely helpful. he tells it like it is and will gladly help you if you have any Questions. Dusty has hands on experience all over North American and even some in Germany. He loves talking about his experiences and is very encouraging to aspiring archaeologists
Dusty inspired me not only to stay in college, but to become an Anthro major. Seriously, I never even considered it before his class. He is extremely helpful, take notes on the reading and study it for the tests, do the study guides- and your golden. He gives pop quizzes-keep up on the reading.
dusty is one of my favorite teachers. as an anthro major i was dreading the archaeology aspect of it but he made me want to dig in dirt. and he aint too bad on the eyes either ;)
Dusty is one of the coolest dudes I've met in a long while. He never fails to make class interesting, and he's really really good at lecturing. His socks never match and he's got some pretty rad shoes and hats. He's got great style in both fashion and teaching. Very knowledgeable, has great stories. Friendly as all hell, and the man loves his beer.
Best professor I've had while at Cabrillo. Funny, smart, always makes class interesting. I never had any interest in Archaeology before I took his class, he changed that.
Awesome teacher! The only class I looked forward to this semester. He's funny, interesting, and puts a lot of time into planning his lectures. I always leave his class fired up. I did have a read a bit for his class which is something I don't normally do but his class is worth it. Tests are multiple choice but quizzes are not.
His class is simple. take notes from powerpoint, listen to exmaples he provides. study for the test which is based on notes. there's a couple of papers due, two i believe but not too difficult. you mainly need to pay attention to the lecture and do the reading. it's not a hard class. actually somewhat interesting.
Dusty is an amazing teacher. Starting this course off with little to no understanding of anthropology I now LOVE it and Dusty as a teacher played a huge part in this. He assigns a few essays but as long as you follow his directions you will receive 100%, his tests are very straightforward so as long as you pay attention in class you will be set!
Highest recommendation. He's extremely engaging, the lectures are always really interesting. His expectations are reasonable. You will not regret taking this professor.
Invigorating lecture and class discussion. This man knows his stuff and is happy about developing your competence. Enthusiastic, bright and very appealing to people of all back grounds. He brings interesting examples to his lectures - never dull.
Best teacher I've ever had. My first American college experience (I'm from Sweden) I cant express enough his passion, knowledge, interest, compassion and all around good guy. Thank you now I can go back home having you as a teacher to beat. Thank you Dusty.
amazing style of teaching. Understanding, clear, interesting and fun. Take this class.
Dusty is such an inspirational, passionate professor and really knows his stuff when it comes to Archaeology. If your an Anthro major, make sure to take Classes from Dusty! He's super smart, but really humble, funny and down to earth. Your Anthro education will greatly benefit from taking classes with Dusty.
Hes a great teacher, but I dont feel that the grade he gave me reflected the effort and work I put into the class. Yes I missed a major paper, but I completed tons of extra credit, sat in the front row, and had nearly perfect attendance.
Dusty makes anthropolgy interesting and entertaining. Sometimes goes off talking about his personal views but no matter your view on things he will hear you out. Not too hard. definetely keep up with the reading and keep your quizes-usually a quiz every other week or so. Overall I recommend him for a teacher
Very interesting class. McKenzie is a great teacher and kept the subject matter interesting. The class was set up very well and textbook was provided for free online which was a huge help. It was obvious that McKenzie cared that students learned and understood the material. Highly recommend.
Great teacher! Love his teaching style. I would recommend taking his class if you appreciate a good laugh and you enjoy Anthro.
Amazing teacher. The man has not forgotten the plight of the student even after years on the other side of the podium and it shows. He knows the subject matter inside and out and can advise you on handling the machinations of academia. He can be judgemental at times, but you probably deserve it anyway. DUSTY#1
Dusty is an amazing teacher! I have an early class with him and he makes up for it by being very entertaining and his teaching style is fun! While it being fun, you also learn a lot! I mean a lot! The assignments are a little on the hard side but once again his teaching makes them pretty easy. I HIGHLY recommend him.
DUSTY IS AMAZING! I'm never looking at the clock waiting for class to be over. He's hilarious! Such an easy grader. Did a paper the night before and got 100%. He's very big on no plagiarism so don't cheat and make sure you cite things correctly. He has pop quizes within the first 5 mins of class so be there on time! Lots of group presentations.
Dusty is awesome. His class is very easy, but super fun. Show up and see what he has to offer. It's VERY hard to fail, as he offers basically an entire exam's worth of extra credit. I mean, a LOT of extra credit. Lots of group projects too.
Dusty is the kind of professor that you want to have. His method of instruction makes cultural anthropology a blast. There is a considerable amount of reading, but after a certain point in the semester attendance is no longer mandatory. However, you wouldn't want to miss class because it's so interesting and entertaining. I'd highly recommend him.
Entertaining, self-deprecating, more fun than a barrel-o-monkeys. Take his class for his stories, his lithic presentations, his humour, his text. I wouldn't, on the other hand, abuse his trust. Dusty grades kindly, with the benefit of the doubt, there to reiterate and reinforce concepts for his students, with a penchant for unforgettable antics.
Obsessed with Dusty, wish that I could take more classes with him. Generous grader but you have to study if you want to do well on midterms. All worth it though, he is an amazing teacher.
Dustin "Dusty" McKenzie is SO DAMN PASSIONATE about what he does. It reverberates off the classroom, and the students. He's upfront & honest, bold, and seriously entertaining. Love coming to class. I'm a music major but somehow ended up getting very involved with his club, that's how awesome this guy is. Take the class, highly recommended.
Easy to wake up for 8 am class here - lectures (and videos!) are great. Generous grader. There's a lot of reading, but it's all good stuff - I actually really liked everything I read. Dusty is smart, unpretentious and funny - he tackles awkward subjects, he's blunt but always kind in his delivery. And he provides readings - don't have to buy text!
This guy is amazing. Just took his Intro To Cultural Anthropology class and it was a blast. Not only does he give excellent lectures but he also listens intently and responds to EVERYONE in order to make their time in his class more enjoyable and more comprehensive. I would highly recommend taking ANY of his classes as I'm sure he will ace them!
Dusty is such a wonderful man! Nothing goes unturned with him... Definitely visit him during office hours! He presents the material in a very captivatinginteresting way. Although after a while attendance is not mandatory, be careful because you might miss a pop quiz. Definitely take good notes! He also allows tons of extra credit opportunities :)
Dusty is super rad! He played Iron Maiden and Black Flag on the first day of class. He's really fun in class and he makes it interesting. Be sure to do the readings. Exams are relatively easy if you study. He assigns a group project and a 10 page ethnography due at the end of the semester but it's not too difficult. I highly recommend him.
He is an awesome guy! I would say that he should be more respectful towards peoples religious beliefs.
Hey is a really awesome guy, loves what he teaches, very nice and WANTS to help you pass the class and understand the material. There is a LOT of reading in this class and there will be at least one group project, but you get to grade your own group members so its as fare as your going to get in a group setting. All in all I'm glad I took his class
I enjoyed Dusty's teaching methods and class environment. I do agree that as a self-identified atheist, he does poke fun at religions. However, he seems to poke fun at all so I don't think he is being ethnocentric per se. He is fun, engaging, and helpful if you take the time to ask for the help. He encourages students to come see him for help.
Dusty ranks as one of the best professors during my academic time. His lectures are super engaging, he is humorous and compassionate. He is an active archaeologist as well ,so he offers students the potential to earn extra credit by participating in his archaeology lectures aside from anthropology. Text book is optional, for he uploads it.
Dusty is the BEST. I've taken him for Anthr1 as well as Arch1 and enjoyed both classes. He's usually pretty clear on grading criteria, but is happy to clarify. Occasionally holds class outside. Reliable office hours. He WILL tell you if something will be on the test, and provides a good study guide. AND the textbook is online and free. Great guy!
Best professor I've had at Cabrillo. Took Cultural Anthro to fulfill a GED requirement but plan on taking almost all other classes he teaches. Inspired me to change majors. He makes his classroom fun, relaxed, and educational. Expect pop quizzes and a few hefty assignments but you'll learn a lot. Free textbook online. Can't recommend Dusty enough.
Dusty is a great teacher. He is funny while still teaching. He is very laid back which makes the class less intimidating for sure. He does give pop quizzes but always goes over the answers after to make sure his students are actually learning. Definitely expect to giggle during the midterms and final because he does put humorous answer options in.
Dusty is an awesome teacher. He's super laid back and his lectures are entertaining. He gave pop quizzes, but they were all open note. Homework was about what you'd expect. I would definitely take him again if the opportunity arose!
Dusty McKenzie is by far my favorite professor at Cabrillo. If you have any chance to take any of his classes I highly recommend it! He is very passionate about Anthropology and cares largely for his students. His lectures area always fun and interesting, while still being informative! I will defiantly be taking more of his classes!
I wish I discovered Dusty before I did. Not only did he make class interesting, hilarious, and intriguing, but he's an all around ethical and amazing person. I wish I had the time to take more of his courses. Thanks for making cultural anthro a fun breeze!!
Dusty was great. Lots of energy, passionate about what he's teaching, good material, accessible... if you do the work in his class you will get the grade you deserve. I would definitely take him again if I needed an Anthropology course.
When I started this class i was dreading having to take Anthropology but Dusty totally changed my mind. Even if you aren't into Anthro I would take this class. Dusty is hilarious, full of life and incredibly considerate and reasonable.
Enthusiastic advocate for Anthropology and Archaeology. Can inspire many about the subject. Too often unprepared or doing things (tests) at the last minute, he does not represent the discipline well. Extremely knowledgeable. A favorite of PC folks. Attractive coeds benefit. Will not repond to email. Poorly run student groups
Super great for an 8am. Really enthusiastic, caring and gives clear instruction. Don't miss class because of pop quizzes and homework assignments handed out. Don't need to buy a textbook for this class, was provided material to read. There are group projects and presentations with peer grading. Lots of extra credit! Overall loved the class.
I loved having class with Dusty! He is obviously very passionate about the subject and cares a lot about his students. Class attendance is important because there will be pop quizzes and assignments handed out in class, but his lectures are always interesting and funny and he adds a lot of activities to get you involved in the subject!
One of the best teachers at Cabrillo, and one of the most genuine human beings. I had Cultural Anthropology with dusty last spring and Archaeology in fall, and Im stoked on the class. Dusty is very enthusiastic and truly cares about his students. His grading criteria is very clear and sets the class up so everyone should get an A. Highly recommend.
Dusty was the single most inspiring professor I have experienced in my 3 years at Cabrillo. His lectures are engaging and filled with relevant information, he has a great sense of humor and his assignments are actually fun! His tests are extremely easy, if you show up to class everyday you will get an A.
Absolutely love Dusty. He is by far my favorite professor. I have taken his cultural anthropology class and am currently in archaeology and I couldn't recommend them more. He makes you want to attend class and learn more, always. Beware of pop quizzes but if you do the work which you will actually enjoy doing, its very easy.
I took this class to satisfy a general ed requirement and I really enjoyed it. Dusty's a very nice guy and he does a great job in engaging the class. There are only a few writing assignments and the tests are fairly easy and straightforward. Even if you're not an anthropology major, I'd definitely recommend taking a class with Dusty!
Dusty is great, the class was interesting and the content and lecture style is great. He makes a lot of great jokes and is an overall hilarious guy, the class is graded real fairly just do the assignments which typically don't take long and you'll pass easily.
Dusty is a fun guy! He cares about his students and tries to feel out what kind of background people are coming from when he's grading. Worth building a relationship with outside of class. High recommendation for anyone, regardless of major. Also, check out Dig-It club! It's a good time, and isn't exclusive to students in social science.
Dusty is a super funny guy who loves what he teaches. The class is not hard, though he doesn't accept late assignments or make-ups. There are pop quizzes throughout the semester, but they are open book and the questions are taking almost word for word from the reading guides he has on canvas. Tests are not hard and he's an easy grader on essays.
Dusty is a great professor and I would definitely take another one of his classes if given the chance. Most classes revolve around lecture but they are easy and interactive. He always makes class fun and is super funny! There's hardly any homework, just readings, two group projects and one or two papers throughout the semester. Dusty is the best!
The dude will give you 200 things to study on a 40 problem test.
TAKE THIS CLASS! Dusty is an amazing professor. His lectures are super interesting (and hilarious). He only assigns one major research paper and two tests during the semester. Beware of pop quizzes, but they are open note and if you show up to class you will definitely get 100% on them. Even though I'm STEM he made anthropology super interesting
Dusty is an incredibly inspiring and enthusiastic professor! With another teacher, archaeology could have been really boring, but Dusty captured my attention in every class with his knowledge and numerous entertaining comments. There were many extra credit opportunities, field trips, and applied assignments. Dusty is the best!
Teacher is great. as long as you pay attention and study a little for the tests the class is not hard, but there are a couple presentations you have to do.
Do the extra credit! I was working part time so i couldnt take advantage, but it is way worth it, so is the Dig-it club! Dusty is highly inspirational even to an aspiring pilot. Great if you love anything about history and the past. Shows you what archaeology actually is and helped me ahape my career path!
Hilarious and engaging. Informative lectures, and does a great job keeping students interested in the subject matter. Quite a bit of homework, but nothing too crazy. Definitely recommend him and this class!
Hands down one of the most enjoyable classes/professors I've ever taken. Dusty makes his lectures super fun, yet still extremely informative. There are pop quizzes, but they're open note so as long as you take good notes they are really easy. I definitely recommend taking a Dusty class before leaving Cabrillo!
Dusty is an amazing lecturer, has great anecdotes, and clearly is both passionate and well-informed. As an in-class prof, he's fire. BUT when we had to switch to online w/covid, he vanished. No zoom, hard to reach via email, zero input on any papers - and that s all we did after covid. Maybe he's adjusted to the new format, I hope so.
Dusty is a great professor. He is caring and spends time with everyone individually to make sure they are on track. he is easily reached through email and leaves useful feedback on assignments. I would absolutely take a class with him again.
Dusty McKenzie is one of my favorite teachers. Definitely in the top 3. He is extremely inspiring and a relatable human. His lectures are very interesting and engaging. All of his anthropology classes are great, you can't go wrong. there is a small amount of homework, its mostly group projects and essays that are not too difficult.
Super chill dude and fairly easy grader. There is lots and lots of reading and some questions you should answer because almost all of them are on the quizzes (and open note). Each module had some type of write up assignment. There weren't too many video lectures, but I wish he posted more because he's so nice, I wish I could've attended in person.
Great teacher! Lots of extra credit available which is awesome. Online course was fun and inspirational. I recommend Dusty.
Truly a great guy and professor. His lectures are super engaging and he makes most of them pretty fun. His grading is easy, if you put in the effort and follow his instructions you will do well. It's very clear he's passionate about his job and cares about his students. I love Dusty and would recommend everyone take a class from him if they can.
Dusty is a cool guy, he really loves anthropology and it shows! His class is straight-forward, and the structure he provides makes it easy to stay on track. His lectures are very enjoyable, and he provides all necessary course materials. The weekly homework is not too difficult, and he grades very fairly. Overall, great class, would recommend!
Dusty is an amazing teacher! He's super caring and understanding. His lectures are always super interesting and I never get tired of coming to his class. 10/10 would recommend if you're looking for an interesting class that you'll actually learn a lot from.
Dusty is hands down one of my top 3 professors at Cabrillo. He knows his stuff and always keeps class entertaining! It was truly a joy to get to walk into his class every day and if I could take this class again, I totally would. Funny guy and always there to help you out if you get confused on anything. Don't skip on him!!!
Dusty is awesome. His lectures are interesting, he cares about his students, and if you show up and pay attention you will pass. Cultural anthropology was amazing.
I'll warn not to take his class if it goes fully online; he's not super tech-savvy so it winds up pretty hands-off and reading-heavy. But that said he is AMAZING for in-person classes. His lectures are hilarious and engaging and the homework is very manageable.
Great instructor that offered meaningful extra credit. Allows students to receive grades based on effort.
Dusty was a great professor of Anthropology culture. I looked forward to his class every day; his lectures are relevant to the modern day and very informative. One of my favorite classes at Cabrillo. He's a real honest guy and respects his students and doesn't treat them as less but shows great respect for them.
dusty is an amazing professor and i had so much fun in his cultural anthropology class. there are in-class pop quizzes, but he always went over the answers. most of the graded assignments are short papers, some movie questions. there is one group project at the end of the year that includes a presentation, so beware if you're not willing to do that
Dustin was one of my fav professors at Cabrillo he had amazing lectures, I looked forward to his class. He related his lectures to the modern world; I learned so much from his class I would walk out amazed every time. He had random pop quizzes, so be on time. He graded only a few things quizzes every other week, a few papers, and a group project.
Great professor! Always easy to talk to and very relatable. Makes lectures fun and interactive. Would take a class of his again.
I loved this class. Dusty is a funny and passionate professor and extremely open to student questions, in and out of class. Tons of easy extra credit opportunities. Self deprecating with some material ("I know this stuff is so boring to you guys" etc.) but is very engaging. Go to office hours! Get to know him. Is a great ally for students.
Dusty was an amazing teacher! I took the Honors version of Cultural Anthro and it was a super interesting class. He's very fair with his grading but does give out pop quizzes. If you miss one, you can't make it up, but he offers many extra credit opportunities. I would definitely take his class again!
Dusty is such a fun and inspiring teacher! All of the lectures and assignments were fun and engaging, and he is so passionate about his classes! Definitely take this class if you want a fun and engaging anthro class!
He's a great dude and very passionate about teaching. However, he teaches his class with the expectation that everyone there is a future archaeologist. For an intro class, this will not always be the case. Lectures are extremely dull, but the papers are ok and the activities that start and bookend units are informative. Hated going to class.
Dusty was awesomee! He is a very understanding and forgiving professor, for sure. The class was very fun and interesting. The homework wasn't too difficult or complicated; just some articles and some larger writing assignments/textbook chapters, but you're given 3 weeks to finish those large assignments which is more than enough.
Dusty is super cool and very personable. Knows his stuff. Lots of fun in-class activities. 2 group presentations. 3-4 essays but are interesting and involved. Pop quizzes but are open notes. Lectures are very fun and engaging, take notes because he gives you a lot of information! You're in for a good time.
Dusty is by far one of my favorite professors at Cabrillo. Awesome dude, super down to Earth, wanting to connect with students, provide them with any resources needed to succeed, and loves to have discussions in class. I would recommend him to anyone. Cultural Anthropology with him is super fun and he gives some really cool/ interesting lectures!
For his native peoples class he makes pop quizzes worth way too much of your grade and if you missed one because you were sick, you don't have a chance to re take them. I got a lower grade and it affected my transcript greatly even though he makes the class out to be relaxed.
I took Dusty's cultural anthropology class (fall 2023) and his archaeology class (spring 2024). Though he's an archaeologist, he's very genuine in his passion for both subjects. His enthusiasm is inspiring and contagious, and the classes I've taken with him have made me realize my interest in studying anthropology.
Dusty has been my favorite teacher so far he is super personable and explains things clearly. He keeps things fun with his humor but handles heavier topics with grace and respect. Would definitely recommend taking a class with him
Dusty is an engaging professor with hilarious lectures. The coursework is manageable, with helpful extra credit opportunities. unstuck AI was a game-changer for study prep.
Take a class with Dusty! He's one of the most incredible professors I have ever met, a mentor and a friend. I've taken three of his classes, and he always fills them to the brim with his passion, humor, and knowledge. If you show interest/initiative, he will open doors for you and make opportunities happen, he's changed my life.
Dusty might be the best professor I've ever had!! He teaches his classes with a lot of passion and enthusiasm. I took 2 classes with him this year. He's very down to earth and funny. He makes his expectations very clear and the homework is manageable. He inspired me to pursue a career in anthropology. I'd recommend him 100%!
Dusty is an awesome prof. I took the honors course and it was rather tedious—but easy. The exams and quizzes were open note. Lots of pop quizzes, extra credit. I genuinely believe that anyone could get an A in the class if you attend and listen to lectures. Many questions on exams and such are about things discussed in class so pay attention.
Hilarious, engaging, relatable, and super open. Sometimes the readings can be very text-heavy — expect some academic journals and theses to read and write about. Beware of pop quizzes. But the lectures are always entertaining, and he's a cool guy. Just stay on top of the work, do extra credit when you can, and you'll be fine. Easy class overall.
Very popular amongst students so check out office hours if you want a word in. Very cool dude! Has serious beef with vegans so beware of that...
