I deserved an A in comp II but he says it makes me look bad to give out A's.
Cool guy, grades easy, boring books though!
Very interesting guy, made the material fun, was incredibly easy. One of the rare teachers that makes class interesting enough where I really wanted to go to class and felt bad when I missed.
he was a great teacher and a really great guy! i enjoyed his class a lot and still talk to him some now!
He is an excellent teacher..has a scary laugh and can seem kind of harsh at times but does wonderfully at explaining everything and makes class interesting. I would definitely recommend him to anyone.
awsome teacher...never read and got a 98 on the first test..that explains it all
He is a nice man but very nervous. He's so nervous and non-confrontational that there are many topics he won't talk about. He doesn't expect enough from his students and his lectures are very chaotic. Not a very good teacher. I recommend someone else. The assignments are easy but be prepared to read a lot.
Great teacher! Really learned a lot without the class being hard at all, tests were easy and he doesn't keep us the whole time, and he's always in a good mood.
great guy. he is very understanding and helpful if you talk to him one on one. the class is a little hard for me but hes helping me out. i would recommend taking him just show him that you are willing to learn.
Take Dr. Coleman!
The class was not easy and it was not hard, I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would. He is a nice guy who knows his stuff, and he will go out of his way to help you.
Dr. Coleman is one of the best professors I have had in my 3 semesters at UCA. Be prepared to read a lot, but he does go over it in class. He also so kindly took the time outside of class to write me a rec. for the honors college. He really really cares about his students and is enthusiastic about helping everyone do their best. Dr. Coleman rocks!!
I took him for World Lit I. He's a great professor, cares about students, explains difficult works thoroughly, and keeps the class interesting. He gives terrific study guides for tests, and other assignments aren't hard. Highly recommend; you'll learn plenty and enjoy it in the process!
Dr. Coleman is an excellent professor. He is very clear in his expectations, and very knowledgeable in his field. He engages the class in conversation through questions and is quite brilliant. He's also a super nice guy!
I took him for World Lit I. I loved this class. He's a great teacher and I have learned alot. If you keep up and do the assignments then you will do great!
He is a great teacher and a lot of fun too.
I took Coleman for Poetry. His class was pretty dang easy. He offers plenty of extra credit. He allows you to miss 10 days of class, but trust me...if you miss...there's a good chance you missed extra credit. His tests are EASY. Take notes on what he emphasizes and you'll do fine. He gives a study guide which makes life a lot easier, also!
He's about as good as you're going to get for a World Lit teacher. He had us do a paper that was pretty tough, but other than that, its pretty easy.
FUNNY. He is an awesome teacher and loves to have fun with class. I'd definately recomend taking him!
Dr. Coleman is one of my favorite professors! Took him for Intro to fiction and it was unbelievably easy! We read 1-2 short stories for each class then discussed it. He's a pretty funny guy too and kept us interested and laughing. No homework besides reading. Tests were very easy and he gives you extensive study guides. I highly reccommend him!
very easy course, i took him again this semester...never read in world lit 1 just took down his powerpoint notes and studied his study guide thoroughly tests are mostly vocab words found in notes and always made an A...super EASY def. recommend
Has the wackiest laugh ever which is about the only thing that keeps you awake, but just copy notes, and you don't have to read the books ever and memorize for tests. He really comes through if you put out an effort sit near the front and visit him in his office once or twice if your grade is on the line.
Good professor, you know what to expect from him. Had him at community college. He does karate?? I think. Love his laugh- hillarious
Oh Dr. Coleman... what a guy. Great guy, class is deathly boring, but his seriously funny laugh makes up for it. (Trust me, you just have to hear it). Tests are easy, one word answers from the key points of his notes. TAKE HIM!
Nice guy. Crazy weird laugh. Scares you a little every time. Don't have to read text, just sparks notes. COME TO CLASS. He gives quizzes. Bring a laptop. copy his PowerPoints, surf the internet, answer a question once every couple of weeks, and you'll do fine. Tests are straight from the study guide, quizzes over material, not interpretive.
This class isn't to hard but its not easy to stay focused in class. Colemans voice puts most of the class to sleep. He gives around 3 quizes and drops one of them.
i've taken Dr. Coleman for several classes and i think hes just great! If you're not interested in literature you might get bored, but he is a pretty funny guy. Hes definately different, his laugh might scare u at first but it grows on you! Def. recommend any of his classes, they are super super easy as well. Made A's in all of them.
I was dreading this class. I tried to get into Intro to Fiction, but got stuck with Intro to Drama with Coleman. By the end of the year, I was happy with it though. He is a great guy. He made it easy to understand Shakespeare. Quality teacher!
His laugh will crack you up!! I have never seen a man laugh with no facial expression- you just have to hear it and see it!! ANYWAY- easy class- sparknotes will do it for ya!! OVerall I loved the class!! I recommend him!
Great teacher. I've never been a drama fan, but the class was great. You must come to class. His quizzes normally consist of matching characters with their description. Tests are easy (matching characters, places, etc. and also giving the significance, title, author and speakers of a short passage) I would take him again.
Dr. Coleman is great -- he truly loves this period of literature, which helps! He has a quarky sense of humor, he listens to his students, and his intentions are purely for you to learn. Very light load for a survey class -- 4 tests, a few random (easy) quizzes, and one paper. Recommended. :)
He is pretty funny is work isnt to bad..I struggled a little bit and i went to him and he was more than happy to explain things better to me. Participate in class because he does pay attention to that. If you miss to many days he will drop you but its not to hard to attend his clas! id take him again.
Very helpful! Class isnt too hard if you pay attention to his lectures. Take notes and read each book!
He is pretty awesome and entertaining. If you read the books you will fly through this class.
Fantastic teacher. Coleman likes to make a lot of crude jokes that only he will laugh at, but if you had his sardonic sense of humor, he's hilarious. Beware the mustache and the power it holds. Tests are moderately difficult, but you'll pass if you study.
So Easy!!!! I never read a book and always read sparknotes! Always made A's on the tests. They are pretty simple if you just copy his slides, take notes, and read sparknotes. Final is comprehensive and harder, but it's ok. Take him! He is hilarious and great!
Dr. Coleman is funny and helpful. I am taking him again next semester. You will never dread coming to class because he keeps it fun and he keeps you laughing!
I only read 1 book out of 9. For the other 8, I listened, took notes, and read sparknotes and got an A in the course. Nice guy, terrible laugh, not very funny, but an easy class. He's very clear on what you need to know.
Not a bad class. Easy/workload isn't much. Several easy quizes. Tests are quite easy. Grades harder on the essay part, so write well. Prb the easiest lit professor. Loved his laugh. It takes you by surprise.
I absolutely hate all english classes but Coleman made Lit II tolerable. Dont buy any of the books he requires, just use Spark Notes. There are 2 short answer tests with short essays, 1 essay test, and a final which is also short answer and short essay. There are several very easy quizes and 1 easy paper. Easy B or A if you actually try.
I hate world cultures classes with a passion but this class was not so bad. A bit sarcastic in his grading style which can be offensive but if you put forth the effort you can recieve an A or B. READ SPARKNOTES.. no need to purchase books. Also take a tape recorder to class so that you can record his lectures because you may fall asleep :)
Attend class- he keeps track and gives only a few quizzes. Hes a good/easy teacher. His test are short answer/essay. On the test, be sure to be specific or he will count off. His lectures are VERY boring but pay attention, it will help you for the test. Most ppl on here say u dont need the book-UNTRUE! Sparknotes is not specific enough for his test
Test are 20 pts short answer, 80 pts essay. Extremely critical on essays. Could have 1 tiny grammatical error and he would count off 15 points. My paper had only 3 words circled in red and he gave me an 88. Good luck trying to get an A.
I heard that he was the best teacher for this class.. well things have changed. This is probably my hardest class. The paper at the end of the semester is almost impossible to write. I would not recommend him anymore
Pretty easy class. Lectures are boring unless your a literature freak but he does a good job of converting the language to things we can understand. Tests aren't too bad just be as detailed and specific as possible. Not very many quizzes and 1 huge paper at the end that is difficult to write. A's are well earned.
Dr. Coleman is great. I didn't read any of the 9 books we were assigned, but listening to lectures helped a ton. A few tests and quizzes, but they're really not hard if you pay attention. I don't know why people are saying the paper was hard. He lets you turn it in a month early and gives you pointers on it before you get a grade. Take him!
Love Dr. Coleman! He was kind of intimidating at first, but he's a really nice guy and a great prof! We had 3 tests and 1 paper. I read about half the readings, sparknotes for the rest and made high B's and A's. He has an attendance policy but I know I missed more than he allows throughout the semester - he never said anything to me about it though and I didn't get points deducted. My advice: take him if you get the chance!
He's got a great laugh, but he's an ok teacher. He has an attendance policy, I know I went way over the allowed amount of absences and he never said anything to me. You must be specific on everything and good luck if you can finish one of his tests in 50 minutes!!
Dr. Coleman loves his Middle English Lit. You need the book. Sometimes his lectures get boring but make sure to take notes. He's really interesting and makes a lot of jokes. His has a notoriously evil laugh that everyone jokes about and it's hilarious. It's always an interesting time with him. Take him!!
I LOVED Dr. Coleman! His tests aren't hard. IDs, quotes, and a short essay. He's very explanatory, and he doesn't expect anything on an exam that he didn't go over in class. He's funny and nerdy. His English Lit is great because that's what he loves. Take him if at all possible!
Coleman is a great professor. In E. Lit. I, you discuss Old English, Middle English, and a little bit of Early Modern English. There are two tests, I believe. They are set up pretty well. There is one essay due at the end of the semester that he grades a little more harshly. Listen to his entertaining lectures, take notes, and you should pass!
Coleman is awesome at his job, and that's speaking lightly. The class may come off to some as an easy A, but the class is actually fun and engaging, and it's intriguing to learn from him about literature. A must for any English/Writing major. He's funny and intelligent; the only thing to watch for is his essays. That's where most of the work is.
He's a good teacher! You have to make sure and read to understand the readings because the tests are pretty specific, but definitely a good class.
Hilarious! Guides the class but lets students give their own ideas. Super laid back about readings and not too many assignments. He will get on a soapbox about procrastination though. Total nerd and probably bullied in high school but great teacher and really great lectures
Coleman's lectures are absolutely amazing. He makes the lecture interesting and often brings something weird into the lecture that will make the information easy to remember. If you have Coleman, get ready to read. Reading the assignments is absolutely essential, as he has his own style of test that will require you to identify exerpts from reading
I can't tell you how many times I was late to Dr. Coleman's class, but he fortunately never took off points. You can get by with Sparknotes, but it'll be more difficult to get an A, and you won't get as much as you could from Coleman's lectures. Coleman was really good about covering all the readings in one semester, and his lectures can be funny.
You can tell that Dr Coleman really cares about what he's teaching. The class isn't too hard-- there's a lot of reading and not a lot of grades-- but I enjoyed it. There's 3 tests and 1 paper and that's pretty much it. The tests aren't too bad and most of the info on it is covered during his lectures.
Dr. Coleman is a fantastic professor. You can tell that he's passionate about Old English and Middle English literature, which makes the lectures very interesting and informative. The tests are straightforward if you read and study lecture notes.
Wow, I loved this class so much along with the professor. I wish I could take him for every class. Super easy, just have to show up and have in depth class discussions. He is very willing to help. Loved him!
He loves his job, and you can really see that during class. I always looked forward to this class.
I enjoyed my class with Dr. Coleman because he's a funny guy and makes class fun. He assigns interesting books instead of boring classic novels. He does, however, make his tests fairly hard so you have to work for your grade and there were only 3 tests and 2 papers (1 was 6 pgs). If you read the books and participate it isn't too bad though.
A nice guy. Minimal effort. You do have to write papers every week, but most are less than a page. Easy grader.
He's really caring and wants to listen. You will write a lot and read a lot but the short stories are really interesting and enjoyable enough to write a few pages over it. Just read the books and write the papers. Easy to read and easy to write about.
Good class, you'll have to read and write a lot, but the readings are interesting and the prompts are not hard to write a few pages on. Go to the classes, it will make the test and essays much easier.
Pretty easy class and an overall nice guy. Recommended
He doesn't give much work, he expects you to read and then eventually you'll have to write a written exam and discussion.
This is a heavy reading course- but if you're into that type of thing then this class is a gem! You can tell he cares about teaching and especially his students. He laughs at his own jokes but in the best way. Definitely recommend for freshmen.
Prof Coleman was a good professor and cared deeply for his students. You do have to read 7 pieces of literature throughout the semester. If you are a big reader, I recommend taking this class or if you need something to fill your Humanities credit.
Dr. Coleman is an absolute legend. His class is so easy and he is such a caring guy. The whole class is reading poems and watching movies. He is so passionate about what he is talking about and he is very knowledgeable. Take this class for an easy A and an easy credit.
Absolute Legend! Totally laid back and he cares for his students. You could literally zoom the entire semester and have your camera off and he wouldnt care. Dont do that though! Great guy but get ready to read alot and he talked throughout the entirety of the class so if you dont like lectures or reading dont take this class
Please take one of Dr. Colemans courses. Such a caring guy and he accepts late work throughout the whole semester. Easy A and an enjoyable class.
Dr. Coleman was awesome and made his class easy to succeed in. He is constantly cracking jokes and just wants everyone to do their best.
Coleman wants his students to succeed. He is truly a caring professor. All of the work in this class were either papers or quizzes, so be prepared to do a lot of reading and writing!
Honestly, I didn't fully read the books, I didn't go to class so I didn't watch the movies, I really just bs my way through every quiz and essay. He is a very kind grader which helped a lot. Class is only tests and quizzes which is a blessing and a curse. Had I put in the effort I think this class would be an easy A.
I find that all the books he makes us read are unnecessary. The lectures have nothing to do with the actual work that we do. Most of what you do you will have to learn on your own but other than that he is a sweet guy and will try to help as much as he can!
He's a really caring professor and wants the best for his students to succeed. His class isn't too hard, however, there is a lot of reading. I feel like you don't really have to do too much reading though, because in most of the classes, he talks about what we read the night before. The assignments are pretty easy as well.
Dr. Coleman is an amazing professor. He really cares about his students and making sure that we have all that we need to succeed. He gives plenty of opportunities to make a good grade and he is hilarious. He truly cares about the subject and makes the class very enjoyable.
Love the professors grading style, as long as you do the required work you'll pass, but if you aren't satisfied with your grade, he gives a lot of optional assignments for extra points. Honestly I never read the book because he was always talk about it in class. Easy A class!
Dr. Coleman is a super funny guy and cares about his students. He deserves to be appreciated. You determine your grade. Lots of reading. Try to engage in class discussions. 5 mandatory assignments and the last one is a big project you work on throughout the year but you choose what you do.
Dr. Coleman is so great! He is a goof. He is very caring and understanding. Get ready to read though! I have had him twice and in each class, we read a ton. His lectures can be boring; he knows that and tries to make them fun. He is a fair grader. It would be hard to fail that class.
You can read summaries on each chapter before class if you can't deal with the reading. This class was really fun. Plenty of opportunities for points, and he grades generously. He wants to see you succeed. He loves to laugh at his own jokes, and he tries to make the stories as interesting as possible. One of my favorite professors.
He's amazing trust. The class is pretty easy just keep up with the books and have some comments to give in class. All the assignments have enough time to do them without rush.
His class is super easy, only had like four exams. I only took notes during the first book, and watched Netflix during the rest of the semester and still came out with an A. Just pay attention when he goes over assignments.
He is very nice and funny; his class is completely lecturing so pay attention. He has few assignments but the ones he does give are essay heavy. You must read most of the books that are assigned because that's what all the essays are on and if you don't have an understanding of the book you will fail.
I really enjoyed this class, mostly just because the readings were actually fun and interesting. Yes the readings are required but an in-depth understanding of just stories isn't really necessary. Dr. Coleman was very funny and engaging in class.
Dr. Coleman wants the best for everyone, making him a fantastic professor. Be prepared to read a lot in his class, but he discusses most of it during lectures if you didn't read or struggled to comprehend the assigned reading.
Professor Coleman is so kind and caring! He understood that the class was meant for first-time freshmen. He was gracious if you missed as long as you communicated with him that you would be missing a lecture. He is passionate about literature and makes learning about classics enjoyable! His grading was fair, and he left helpful notes.
