MC only tests about the lecture notes, not hard. one research paper in a semester that he provides lots of help and guidelines from choosing the topic to writing the conclusoin.
expects hard work and he does reward you for it. He was a good teacher the class was just hard for me and i still got an C which is what i earned he makes it easy to get an A though.
Facinating class, he really gets topics going and will follow through until they are clear to everyone. His requirements are reasonable, tests hard but not impossible and one paper, which he will help you with as much as necessary.
Great teacher, really explains things well. One paper that he helps with. Take good notes. This is a hard subject and he makes it easy to understand. His tests are multiple choice and a little difficult.
Great teacher! Explains things very well. Very helpful. Makes it fun to go to class. 3 tests and a paper. Tests almost strictly off lecture. Easy to take notes from. Get what you put into the class. Very well organized. Would highly recommend.
Great teacher. Very respectful of students, encourages class discussion, makes a difficult subject accessible. Very willing to help, and to make sure the class understands the concepts. Very likeable guy, great teacher, great class!
He is a great intellectual with the capacity to confuse and amuse! I would take another one of the Dr.s classes!
Pretty easy class but a lot of reading. He does give reading questions, but you wont do good unless you really put some time & effort in. Tests are reasonable but you must attend and pay attention to lectures!
great teacher, gets ya THINKIN!! he's willing to help and is good at lecturing. pretty easy curriculum
Extremely knowledgable and entertaining.
great teacher, always goes over material until everyone has a clear understanding. Fun class, he is very open minded
I took his accellerated course over the summer. Participation in class is vital for passing. If you are a talker then go for it, You will probably do really well. I found him boring. But thats just me.
DO U WANT C? TAKE THIS OLD BASTERD,HE TALKS SO FAST THAT U NEVER CAN UNDERSTAND WHAT HE IS SAYING ,EASY C. JUST SHOW UP IN CLASS THAN U WILL PASS
well this class sucked. he's a great teacher but you will get so annoyed with the students that take this class. Every issue is so ridiculous. You will be amazed at how many morons are on this earth.
easy class. tests are curved. one 6pg paper at the end, 3 or 4 multi-choice tests. do some reading b/c it helps and is interesting. the class will change alot of your thoughts and show you how DUMB some people are. class discussions are out of control and hillariously annoying sometimes, it was fun.
One of the best teachers I've ever had. He gives great lectures! Really gets you thinking! You need good critical thinking skills, but if your open minded you'll succeed.
Great classroom discussions..let's everybody talk and does make you think...even about thinks you thought you had thought about before.
Very passionate about philosophy, all around nice & caring prof. 3 tests & a 6 pg essay. It's the other students in the class that will drive u crazy. The subject can be confusing and make your head hurt. At times lectures are boring, but leave it to the other students to give u a good laugh.
Interesting lectures and great class participation. Definitely thought-provoking.
Just when you thought you knew it all. This class will put you back to square one and make you rethink everything! A very organized, and structured format of lectures and scantron tests. He preps you for everything, including the 6pg term paper (no surprises). Read, showup, take notes, participate.
Be prepared to write fast. This teacher will hone your note-taking, as he talks in a condensed and scantily-punctuated stream of information, all of which makes it to the tests. This is a teacher that enjoys debate, will explain anything to exhaustion, and above all makes sure his students learn. A-
One of the best professors I've had. He's test are not easy, you need to study. He speaks fast, but he is clear so bring a tape recorder, it helps. Lectures are interesting and he likes for students to participate. Interesting class.
Very confusing lectures, hard to tell what exactly he is trying to teach you. Impossible tests- RANDOM. Nice guy over all, but not a class I would ever take again, ever.
Lots of reading, a paper and an oral speech. Overall do your work and you'll pass. You can tell he loves what he does. He was always available and very helpful, willing to give make-up exams.
Pay attention, go to class, take good notes and you will do well in the class. On top of that you will get the privledge of learning about an amazing subject in an environment where discussion is actually encouraged. Furrow is awesome and helpful in and outside of class.
Very passionate about what hes teaching which keeps you interested. Exams were more focused on the history of philosophy. Pop quizes sometimes, about 3 exams and 1 paper. The class text is not necessary to have, you can pass the class without it, although I found myself still reading it months after the class was over. Good notes are important.
Pretty smart, but killed the class for me. Told us repeatedly that we didn't have to read the text, just pay attention to his lecture which was a summarization of the readings.
I suggest you all stay away from this guy! I had no clue what he was talking about the entire time. He is very confussing and extremely monotone. He is like that teacher from South Park. MMMKAAYYY
He is a great teacher, you will take ALOT of notes though. Very interesting subjects and he is very knowlegdable and passionate about the subject. My class was at 8 and I was always awake because the topics were so interesting. I would recommend him to anyone interested in expanding their minds.
Furrow provokes thinking, A+ on that, Confusing because the course throughs pretty much everything into doubt. If you don't what you believe, this course will make you more confused. Appears to purposefully make those who believe in God to doubt what they know & he does it so that there is no time to discuss the doubts he has to the ?s he gives.
The morals and values class was one of the most interesting classes I've ever taken. This along with the 102A class helped me look at things from a different and better perspective. These are very good GE classes. Prof. Furrow was very knowledgeable and put up pretty good arguments for many points and doubts that I was able to come up with.
Excellent teache! The tests are very difficult so take good notes, keep up with the readings and study a couple times a week. Highly recommend Furrow.
He is a very interesting and smart teacher. The class was thought provoking but you need to go to class and pay attention. I would not recommend the 8am class that I took. He is very fair and lets you know just what he expects. If you want an A you can get it. His tests are short but not easy. So cliche but you can get the grade you want.
Thought provoking and one of the most interesting classes. He has vasts amounts of knowledge and he always intrigues me to look at things a bit differently. While the tests are multiple choice and short, they require alot of thought and it's no easy cakewalk. I highly recommend this class if you want a good teacher who knows the subject quite well.
Very helpful teacher, at first it might be hard to adjust your thought process to thinking philosohically, but slowly you get used to the class. He gives a lot of help if you ask for it, and he does look like and sound like Mr. Mackey from South Park "m'kay".
Furrow rocks! He's not easy but you will learn alot. Makes you over think everything!
He was a really good teacher with alot of knowledge but the class is not easy by any means. You must go to class and take alot of note. It was a little hard at first because you have to adjust your thinking process but overall it was a very interesting class.
Furrow rocks, he is passionate on what he teaches and would love nothing more then for personal questioning. He is damn good at what he does and his class is very fun. Take notes+ study notes+ dont be dumb= A o yeah dont ignore little 1 point hw assignments...thats how i got a B lol aced all the tests doh!
I LOVE Dr Furrow's class! He explains everything as many times as the class needs to get it (which can be many!) but if you keep in mind this isn't a typical memorization class (it's a thinking class) you'll do fine. He made me rethink a lot of things I thought I believed. Not an easy A but not a hard one either. Just think logically!
I found him to be a very interesting guy, even if the subject he teaches makes my head hurt a little bit.
i really hated the class, BUT it's very obvious that he is a very smart and interesting teacher...if only it was a different subject...
I took him for Phil 102a, 130, 110, and 126. He is very helpful; all you have to do is ask during class, during office hours, or whenever! His lectures are very interesting and he seems to do a good job of providing both sides of arguments. I have become a much better note taker and critical thinker after taking his classes. I strongly recommend him.
Smart Guy, HORRIBLE Teacher!! He is Soooo Boring! I dreaded going to this class every time. The subject is interesting but Furrow takes all the fun out. He doesn't know that learning can be fun. He is also very hard and he talks so fast that you can not write down everything he says. I though i was going to get an A...he gave me a C. HE SUX!
He's a really smart and interesting guy, and he tries to present the subject material in layman's terms. The books are easy to read but also repeat lectures almost word-for-word. He lets some people talk for WAAAAY too long though and could probably moderate class discussions a bit better. Assigns 1 essay and his tests are somewhat challenging
Really nice guy, but his class is highly boring. It is nothing but lecturing for a whole hour and a half every class meeting. His tests are extremely tough. I worked too hard to get a C.
The class was so boring I stopped attending, also everyday seems like a repeat of the last time
Highly boring
Good course. If youre into philosophy take this guy's class.
Excellent professor! great class overall, challenging, yet great starter class for philosophy. Took online class and lecture notes were amazing, explained all thoroughly. Definitely recommend!
Excellent teacher. Well prepared. Well organized. Very knowledgeable. Explains everything clearly. Respectful of students. Flexible. Fair.
Great professor. He is very knowledgeable and makes you think harder than you've ever thought about anything in your life! Interesting subject. The lectures can be boring, but he allows everyone to speak their minds on a regular basis. Tough exams, study hard for them! That and write a solid term paper, and you should do fine :)
You have to realize that he hasn't gotten 5 5's well that's because the class is 90% lecture and it was so boring that I stop trying to crash his class after my 1st try. He's smart and maybe too smart to teach the class because he expects you to be on the same page as him. His standards are just too high, especially if you're a slacker. Stay away.
Very smart teacher. The class is extremely interesting, and he is not a hard grader. There are lots of concept to get but its very nice to learn something about our life. But I gotta say, philosophy is not an subject. It will make you think about what revolving around your life a lot.
The class is all lecture, and his tests revolve around his lectures NOT the textbook. I wouldn't suggest buying it because he elaborates well. Sometimes boring, but you need to take GOOD notes for tests.
Probably the best philosophy professor in mesa, intresting clear lectures with good class discussion. He wrote the main textbook so with some notes on lectures and going over text easy A, paying attention in class probably B. He will really make you reflect over morals. After his class I'm considering a minor or double major in philosophy
This is a difficult class. Why? Because it's all lecture and discussion...and it can bore you to tears. But if you study well for exams and write a solid paper, you will ace it. Furrow makes you think...so don't come to class just to vegitate.
Best teacher I've had at Mesa, feel lucky to have him here. Clarifies the complicated material well, kept the class challenging, but always seemed cognizant he was teaching to 'mesa' students. He moderated the class discussions perfectly, never appeared condescending or judgmental. Great teacher, awesome guy, wish I could get his opinion on everything
Took this online and was very intimidated at first. Some of the book was hard to follow, but don't let it scare u. If u follow exam instructions exactly, participate in discussion posts, read the book assignments and ALL of his lecture notes, an A is attainable. He picks out book excerpts, you don't read the entire text, only abt 10 pages a week
Show up everyday; participate when appropriate (easy to do so); take notes the entire class; re-read your notes, and you'll get an A. He's a great teacher.
Took the class online. Seems harder than it really is. He was very quick at responding to questions and was happy to clarify whenever I needed. My one complaint about the class is the short windows for quizzes and tests. You can miss some quizzes and do fine, by the tests only have a 24 hour window and are a huge portion of your grade.
There is some reading and I would def. try not to miss any lectures because I found that to be extremely important to be ready for the exams. At first he slightly intimidated me but as the semester went on, his classes are quite enjoyable and fun. Just don't miss class and read and you'll get and A! a truly Great professor!!
Amazing teacher, made me fall in love with philosophy. Very in-depth lectures and always willing to clarify and answer questions. My suggestion is to definitely become part of the discussion, don't be afraid to speak up, and take LOTS of notes. Incredibly nice and wish he would teach all my philosophy courses
Furrow is ON POINT there are two textbooks he uses. 1 is of multiple articles and excerpts from philosophers and one published book both written by Furrow himself. extremely intelligent Extremely helpful, always in his office and keeps track of office visits and working 1 on 1 with you. tests are hard but you feel very accomplished when you ace it!
I would say Dr. Furrow is one of my favorite professors at Mesa. He is extremely intelligent and a great lecturer. He is clear and very helpful. Most of the grade is from 3 or 4 tests, which were somewhat difficult, and a 6 page term paper, which he grades leniently. I would highly recommend him; you will learn a lot in his class.
Very arrogant and not at all helpful for people like me who have no understanding of Philosophy. Tried many times to get help from him, thought he might be able to help explain ?'s I had in a different way, was only willing to reiterate the exact same thing over and over again. Most unhelpful professor I've ever had. Most useless subject ever
professor Furrow is very intelligent and overall a great professor. He wants you to think critically; he likes class participation and when you ask questions. he does not like complacency. if you're interested in philosophy its great otherwise you may think its a little intense. Dwight is very clear about things in class but tests can be tricky.
Professor Furrow is very intelligent and overall great. He wants you to think critically, and he likes class participation and when you ask questions. He does not like complacency. if you're interested in philosophy its great otherwise you may think its a little intense. Dwight is very clear about concepts in class but tests can be tricky.
Furrow is a great professor. I find myself using his techniques in argument all the time. Attendance is essential! To get an A you NEED to be in class in order to comprehend the material. Tests are wordy but the point is to teach you to think critically, so be careful to know the theories in the book inside and out. Highly recommend.
Dwight Furrow is a fantastic professor. He is very knowledgeable and structures his class in a brilliant way. You need to show up to class if you want to do well on his exams, but they're very manageable if you take notes and pay attention. I highly recommend you take his class.
Loved this class! Great professor. He says you need to the book and he does refer to it during class but he expects you to not understand it (because of the abstract wording) so he explains it in class. Attendence is a must. Other than an interest in philosophy the only other thing you will need to be able to do is understand his large vocabulary.
I would not recommend taking online. Lectures posted online are lengthy and incredibly difficult to comprehend. I was interested in philosophy prior to this class and the course just gave me a headache. Most difficult of all online courses I've taken. I devoted more time trying to comprehend this material than my 5-unit science class.
Do NOT recommend him for an online class. Intro class with advanced expectations. Low point total (200pts), w assignments worth 2 points. Hard grader on EXAMS and Finals (most of your grade). Assignments due MIDWEEK?? Profs like this are clueless to the needs of an ONLINE student. Majority of the class WD, I should have also.
I've taken 2 of his philosophy classes and he is a very tough grader. The topics that are discussed are useful to the coarse and I like that he pushes your limits on your thinking process but, the assignments aren't worth very much and the lectures are so dry! Definitely read the book assigned, it'll always be on his tests.
Professor Furrow is an awesome teacher. get ready to re-read things a few times. I took his online class. You need the book for 7 quizzes. They're pretty short (4 q's) and if you did the reading you'll do fine. Theres one 6 pg paper, 3 argument schematizations, and 2 discussion posts/week. its a cool class u learn a lot
His lectures are long but everything that is on the test is directly from the lecture. The tests are open book/note so if you want the book, this is the only time it is useful. Just take VERY good notes (type them so you get everything). 4 tests, cummulative final, one 6 page paper that is very leniently graded. His tests are pretty difficult.
Overall very unorganized. I took his online course and found it difficult to find what was due on a weekly basis. Many requirements and assignments were not on the syllabus. Also very critical for a philosophy 100 class.
Professor Furrow's online course is incredibly unorganized and many deadlines are in the middle of the week. His lectures are long word documents that caused me even more confusion to an already confusing class. He provided no resources to assist students other than the textbook or lectures. I'm glad I withdrew from the class.
Professor Furrow was one of my favorite professors and I had him online. He takes his time grading and reading your papers. If you messed up on a part, he will fully explain why you messed up and what you could've done differently. I would 100% recommend him to anybody taking philosophy, whether for your major, for transfer credits, or just to take
Professor Furrow is one of the best professors Ive had, and I only took an online class with him. He grades extremely fairly, while giving clear and actually helpful feedback. The lectures can be long and a somewhat tough read but are put together very thoughtfully. As long as you understand the general topics you will do well. (only one paper)
The lectures he gives are long and hard to understand. The instructions for the assignments are also not very clear. Strict grader and offer 0 to no feedback on the assignment.
Professor Furrow was a very solid professor overall. His assignments were reasonably spaced out and manageable. Quizzes can help you pull back some easy points but all tests are writing, which is a majority of the course. Fair grader and gives constructive feedback, is lenient for life issues if you communicate properly.
Took this class online and it was okay. Philosophy is an interesting and confusing subject and he usually just gave super long paper to read about topics. Told me that I needed to get the most up to date textbook even though I barely ever used it. The tests are writing responses in a new format that takes some time to get used too. Alright class.
This teacher is inconsistent. I followed instructions, used the textbook, and still got poor grades. His grading is arbitrary, and his feedback is vague. He clearly doesn't care about his students. Save yourself and avoid any classes with him. One of the top 5 worst teachers I've ever had. I took the most basic version of his class.
