Dwight was a very laid back prof and made class interesting. He has stories that relate to the subject and keeps things interesting. Highly recommended. Tests are easy as well.
Nice man, but very boring. Marketing is a hard class to begin with. If you like being bored out of your skull, this class is for you.
Good guy! I was interested in what he had to say so i enjoyed his class. His M/C are very hard! Lots of "both 'a' and 'c'" or "all of the above" type! Ya... something like that for every m/c question.. yet i would take another class from him
Dwight used a lot of examples and good movie clips at the start of class. These things made it eiser to relate what we were learning to real life. Multiple choice can be a little tricky but if you know your material and read a bit, you should be set. I would highly recommend this prof.
Dwight is a good prof; uses a lot of personal experience and videos to relate to the course material. M/C exams were tricky, but he's a very approachable prof if help is needed.
Honestly he is the dryest prof I've ever had. He's quite boring and his multiple choice questions are quite difficult. He provides little examples of his multiple choice and refuses to let us have our old tests back to study from. I fell asleep in his class every day...so boring.
He does a good job teaching the material. He gives good examples from his personal career and the movies helped keep me awake. The material is pretty dry it was a challenge to stay awake. His M/C tests were very tricky, lots of "all of the above", "none of the above", "a and b", etc... Basically just memorize the textbook and watch the movies.
Class is generally pretty interesting, and no surprises on exams. Make use of your text and the resources provided on Web CT etc. and you should do quite well.
BOooooring!!! Dry as dust and less dynamic.
I just don't understand why I have to pay tuition to get lectured from someone who follows the powerpoints so faithfully...I'll buy the textbook w/ CD and learn what I do in class just as well...no...probably better. Nice guy though, he has lots of knowledge about the subject from what I hear, just doesn't know how to make it ... FUN.
Yes, very boring. Why bother going to class if I can stare at the same powerpoint presentation at home? And the midterms were horrible: "All of the above" or "both C and E" blah! I hated it, and you'll never know what you did wrong 'coz you don't get an answer sheet. This intro class has deterred me into ever getting a major in marketing!
Going to class is a waste or time for the most part. I can read the powerpoints as well as he can read them too me. I wonder why I roll out of bed for the 8:30 class, some days. Exams are dumb with alot of all of the aboves, none of the aboves, and a & b's.
If there was an award for the worst prof. - he should get it!! He didn't teach anything, he just read from slides! Exams were stupid because there was lots of 'all of the above,' 'none of the above,' etc. I wouldn't recommend him to anyone!!!!!!
Absolutly useless male. This guy doesnt teach his students one thing. Reads the powerpoints which dont even have exam material then watches a movie every class. Exams were straight from the text which he doesnt even touch on. Brutal Brutal Brutal, he shouldnt be teaching.
BORING! You do not need to go to class or buy the text, just print off the powerpoints. His tests are hard, long & irrelevant to what you have learned (questions on things not in the scope of an intro marketing class or have nothing to do with the class). A plus is at beginning of each class you watch a movie it makes things slightly more bearable.
Dwights a good guy he knows his stuff and we had some good discussions in his class. text book is only for cases sucks you have to buy it. they're not hard classes (310 and 210, segmentation and the 4 Ps is all you gotta know for each of those classes)
Wrote our mid-term today and wanted to say that the way he teaches the class doesn't even come close to preparing you for the content of his test... the M/C were fine, but the short answers wer brutal, especially when the only advice he could offer was "concentrate on the broader concepts"... what does that mean? Do your reading and find old TESTS!
I thought he was a good prof, the lectures were interesting and not boring at all. He definitely knows what he's talking about. A lot of group work and a major grop project worth 30% of your final grade. I would absolutely take another class from him.
Dwight is an ok guy.. His lectures are slightly boring. His idea to bring "markstrat" into bus 310 was dumb- the simulation is useless and a waste of time. As long as you actually do all the assignments and are there every day to catch the random "pop quizzes" you'll do fine.
Useless. going to class is a complete waste of time. he rambles on about nothing. spent a whole class dedicated to teaching what an expense is through a long convuluded explanation and then flipped throug 39 PP slides in a split second w/o explaining them. you have to teach yourself the class. its manageable but what are we paying him for? BRUTAL
Avoid if possible. Not terribly hard but he definitely one of the worst profs at the U. Class is a waste of time as exams are straight out of the book, and have nothing to do with what he talks about during class. Buy the book, skip class and you'll be fine. Also a very slow marker so expect the midterm and each project to take at least 3-4 weeks.
Not the hardest marker but doesn't teach anything. Skips all his slides that he tests on. Exam questions are mostly from the text and occasionally a obscure topic covered in class. He tends to talk about himself or have class discuss their thoughts. Project worth 30% was a pain, midterm was long but the final was alright.
BUS 210: Heinrichs is a very easy-going prof. Be sure to attend class (especially for the first midterm) as there will be questions on exams from material discussed and videos watched in class. Gives real-world examples in marketing, but sometimes class can be on the boring side.
He knows the information well and had some great guest speakers! Textbook is used for case studies only. He has class layed out well and you know when things are to be done and what he expects!
Fair marker. Interesting guy. The project was a grade booster even though it was tedious and time consuming. Class average was 75
Dwight rocks. He's less about the theory behind and more about the hands on. He's big on discussions. Markstrat sucks but Dwight somehow makes it fun. You learn a lot in Dwight's class but you definitely have to pay attention. He calls on you randomly. Cases are easy. You get a bonus mark just for handing in. Get the man a martini, he deserves it.
All I can say is what a little muffin! He is my favourite! Markstrat was frustrating at first but turns out you learn a ton! He is so helpful and such a funny little man! His expectations are clear and the cases are so easy. Would take this class all over again! 310 is so much better than 210 so make sure you take it!
wen i first saw him i thought he was gonna be awful but after his first class i thought different. he keeps you interested and is a pretty humourous guy. his cases are relevant and videos are good. make sure you study the text book hard before exams but other than that you should be good to go. recomended.
Dwight's the man. Sometimes it seemed as if marking was arbitrary and similar throughout the class, but his classes are always enjoyable. Take classes from him!
I didn't learn a thing about marketing. Dwight is always off topic and plays youtube videos in every class. Exams are based only on the textbook. Easy marker though and the group project was easy. Don't go to class and read the textbook and you can expect a high mark.
you don't learn anything in this class. Why am i paying money to watch youtube videos, movies That are irrelevant to marketing. Basically you read the book and teach yourself. This class was a waste of my time. Heinrichs goes on in class how hes so awesome writing a book and he uses marketing examples of his work that hes done because hes that good
Dwight is the best and one of the nicest and most interesting people you will ever meet! Classes seem pointless but you can learn a lot if you pay attention. Class project where you do not pick your groups but he marks easy. Hard midterm but a pretty easy final. He's got a hilarious sense of humor and can teach you a lot if you give him a chance.
This guy doesnt teach anything. Hes distracted by youtube videos that don't have anything to do with the material. Even though his classes are slack with nothing going on he still marks relatively hard on the tests. Why do I pay to go to university for proffs like this!!
Great guy, good class. only downfall is that he provides very little feedback on tests and the group marketing project. i would definitely recommend him!
Dwight's lectures can be a bit dry, but he likes to play a few youtube videos most classes to keep things moving. Most of the class is based on a marketing project and exams, which aren't hard but can hit hard if you haven't studied for them. Would recommend Dwight because he doesn't mark overly hard but he greatly appreciates a strong effort.
Excellent Prof. Highly recommend. Will take any class taught by this professor. Attend class and all is clear.
This class was alright. Super boring, and we watched too many videos. Having it at 830am made it hard going except for the fact that he took attendance. The presentation was ridiculous for a 100 level class. I feel like he could have had another midterm rather than a presentation. Overall meh about this class.
Dwight is an astounding professor. He knows so much about the marketing world. Highly recommend and advise taking a class from him if you're interested in marketing. Accounting & finance people, stay out!
This class was fairly easy. The textbook hols the concepts and he goes over them being applying them in class. He uses a lot of videos to do this. Presentation and exams were straight forward. Overall, this class is easy although I didn't learn a whole lot.
Looks for reasoning skills over right answer, people who get this ace the class. Cases are marked by TA and so ez to get good marks. Classes are interesting as you watch movies and discuss their relevance. Boring unsocial types find him hard to follow and engage but any one outgoing will thrive in his classes, ps he likes funny stories.
Awesome Prof. I incourage anyone to take any of his classes. He is very easy to get help from or ask any questions. With his project in Bus 210 read the manual it helps alot. Go to class, read the cases, think outside the box and you will do well in his class.
He knows what he is talking about. Most definitely my favourite prof I have had. He does call on you, and he's not very straight forward about markstrat, but he is a fair marker and he's helpful. I would take another class from him in a heartbeat. Very nice man!
Dwight, some people love him and others don't. My class was the first to take 410 ever, it was a work in progress but if you like marketing classes this one is very hands on. There is a consulting project for a real business! Take home midterm, group project, assignment and case final. Easy but can be time consuming. Dont bother buying the text.
Dwight is a really good guy and he means well but I found it exceptionally difficult to get a grade that was higher than an 80. He offers a 3% bonus certificate that you can get if you write a bucket list by the end of the term. The group project is a lot of work. Final was difficult and random as Dwight mostly shows youtube videos in class.
Dwight was an awesome class to take, mostly watched YouTube videos during the lectures but attendance was 10% of the overall grade so show up to class. Majority of mark was group work he picked the groups, might not be your thing but easy to do well. Should be the easiest 70% of your life, and the hardest 90%. 810 would take again.
Helpful professor. Lectures can sometimes lack strategic direction. Prepare for a lot of group work and presentations. Class takes significant amount of time outside of lectures to do well, most of it in group meetings. Quizzes and assignments easy if the time is taken to do everything asked.
Dwight isn't everyone's cup of tea, but he's one of my favourite. He's smart and genuinely loves what he teaches. Markstrat is sooo much fun. You'll have a lot of fun in his classes, and he's always there to help out if you need. Plus he's always open to have a cool chat if you drop in on him.
The midterm was difficult but he curved it up to reach a class average of 70 or 75. His exams are mostly about being able to apply the concepts from the text. Dwight seems like a great guy; marketing just isn't an interest of mine. It seems difficult to do very well in the class, but it also seems hard to fail.
Avoid him if you can. Lectures don't ever seem to connect to testable information, powerpoints are vague at best. Group project was bad, his TA graded everything and expected A LOT for an intro class. He's a SUPER nice guy and great for a conversation anytime, just not great if you like really organized profs that tell you information straight up
Good professor of all time. Would share the concept from inside out
Awesome Prof. Would like to take another class of his.
Great Prof. I would recommend you to take his class. He always bring creative and innovative ideas which help the students to think out of the box. I took Bus 310 from him. Really enjoyed his class discussion and MarkStart project.
Very chill and relaxed guy. Loves showing videos to his students. One midterm that's very easy; if you don't know the answer to a question he lets you cross it off and create you own. Group project has a decent amount of work involved. Attendance is worth marks. Do not need to pay attention in class to get good marks.
My interests do not lie in marketing, so the material wasn't very interesting to me. That being said, Dwight does what he can to make the material applicable to through the use of videos and stories from personal experience. The group project may give students a chance to develop a marketing plan for a real company. That is always beneficial.
Dwight's a nice guy, but his class is just so boring. Only reason I went was for the attendance marks which I think was 10% of final grade. Otherwise our class had 3 case studies assignments, midterm, and group project. Had to read the textbook to understand anything as slides have literally no information on them.
I love Dwight! He is one of my favourite profs at the UofR. He has a genuine interest in marketing and so do I. He drinks diet cola everyday. 10/10 would recommend. I am definitely taking another class from him again. He is AMAZING.
Dwight, doesnt teach anything. He shows youtube videos that don't have anything to do with the material. hard on the tests. Why do I pay to go to university for professor like this!! worst class ever !! terrible terrible teacher.
To me Dwight is an unusual prof compared to others in the faculty. His slide are pretty much useless. They contain little to no info about the topic or the textbook. By lots of homework, I mean you have to stay on top of the readings. Overall great class besides all the negative aspects. Would take again but he must change his teaching style.
All he does is show youtube videos that are completely useless and irrelevant to the class. He doesn't explain anything. It is extremely difficult to know what he wants from the class on exams. Also, the class is super boring, and he talks really quietly.
If you are okay with a 70 take his class but dont think youll get a higher mark. Dont expect feedback either. Plays videos, doesnt really teach. Cool dude, not so great prof.
Get ready to learn absolutely nothing. Slides have little to no info on them which means you're basically paying the university to read a text and learn all the material on your own. You also never receive any marks back until the last class which means you don't even know your mark going in to the final. Seems like a good guy just a brutal prof.
I don't understand why Dwight is so popular. He is a nice guy, but as a prof... I didn't learn much in his class. He is very vague in his lectures and stuck in "old marketing". He might be a good prof for undergrad (?), but not for grad classes. I would not take any courses/classes from him again.
Dwight is such a nice prof! If you try really hard in this class youre gonna get a good grade. I took this class in spring sem so it wasnt that heavy. We did 1 case summary, midterm, group proj, bucket list asg, and final! For the exams, I read the book and studied the slides! He sometimes gives hint on whats gonna be on the short answer!Great prof
Dwight is a great prof. If you dont understand what hes asking and go talk ask him in person. He will answer any question you might have for the class. Overall a real gem!
Didnt realize till after the midterm his lectures serve very little use. Teach yourself from the text and youll be good. Was an enjoyable class overall.
Dwights lectures are useless except for the participation mark you get through attendance. The exams are solely based on reading the textbook. His lectures are not related to the book or assignments. He plays interesting videos and tells stories but you dont learn anything from the class.
Dwight is an alright prof overall, but the midterm and the final are hard to prepare for because you somehow have to work out what you think will be on the test. This class is very interesting, but he barely went over any bigger concepts of marketing. Be attached to your book this whole semester, and you'll be good!
Honestly, he is my favorite prof. His lectures are kind of useless because he reads off his slides and posts them later but he marks for attendance so kind of have to show up. Great guy, cares about his students. Take home midterm and final. 100% recommend him for anything marketing
Lectures are useless but you will be graded for attendance. You are basically on your own on exams. His exams are not based on his lectures but on things he did not discuss. Thought I did decent on everything else but got a low grade probably because of the exams. You will also have to present in class so get ready for that.
Markstrat was hard to catch on to, you get 70-80 no matter how good you do. midterm&final are open book. Got cases back and all got 4/5 no matter what you wrote, no feedback to explain why. Little info on slides. Dwight is an interesting person and knows a lot of stuff which made this class alright. Offer him a grey goose martini you might get a 90
Dwight is very informal and approachable. You can discuss anything and he cares to get to know you on a personal level. I've signed up for three of his classes and they all follow the same format: case studies, group presentations, one take home midterm and one take home final. You learn a lot but are not overwhelmed with homework. 10/10
Dwight is as great at teaching as he is at listening. Very thorough case studies & course structure large spectrum of marketing experience. Takes his time to get to know students. He is a true gem, a very wise man. If you really want to do great marketing practice, take all of his classes. No textbook or final exam. Group projects are quite fun.
In Dwight's class you do not have a chance to obtain the grade you want, Dwight has complete control of everyone's grades. He says you dont really need the textbook but all of his exams are ONLY on the textbook and very little on his PowerPoints. Dwights lectures and PowerPoints are completely useless and so is Dwight. Do NOT take his class. BEWARE
A lot of people complain that it is difficult to get a good mark in this class but I found that if you put effort in your group project and studied the chapter summaries for the midterm and final, you will do great. I should know, I finished with an 85. Dwight is quite the character and honestly taking 210 with him is a rite of passage at U of R
Dwight is a reasonable and helpfup. You just make sure to put effort in his class.
I love Dwight as a professor and have taken him multiple times. He is however not for everyone. He has his own style of lecturing and gets off topic a lot. He does not stay focused when he starts a train of thought. Lots of group work and he marks fairly though. I enjoy his classes as I find them fun, interesting and relevant to my degree.
Dwight's class was always a lot of fun. He is very interesting to listen to, gives reasonable/fair marks and he seems like an all around nice guy. I am definitely going to choose future lectures with him. He seems like the cool, laidback professor from a college movie. Oh and he always starts the day with 70s pop rock.
Attendance is not mandatory in Dwight's class, as his lectures are composed of slides with little to no information, and videos that are somewhat related to the content. The exams are centered around reading and understanding the textbook. The exams are assignments are not difficult and grades every assignment in the 70%-80% range. Very nice prof.
Not a very good professor. Probably more focused on his own personal career than the class. Slides have no information just a bunch of pictures (that are no cited properly). Never gives feedback and always will give you 70-80 no matter what even if you put in 50 hours. If you are looking to receive credit with a 70 take him. Otherwise don't.
Dwight has a funny personality and comes off as a really respectable man. He often starts his class off by listening to music and is extremely laid back. The problem is grading. Not sure if it is him or his minions but getting a good grade is impossible. He says that he is going to curve things but obviously the curve doesn't work in your favour.
I took 210 in the Spring semester. The course content is interesting and Dwight made the most of the Zoom program. Expect a group assignment worth a good chunk of your overall grade and case assignments. He spurs creative thinking which I really enjoy. I'd definition take another course from him as the cases are a good way to apply content
Unfortunate for marketing majors that Dwight is the only prof for many classes. learning based off cases and Dwights personal experience and "insight". powerpoint presentations are horribly unorganized, chaotic and impossible to study from. lectures a painful experience, fosters awkward environment instead of meaningful discussion. markstrat good
Dwight is a very nice professor and always answered my emails very clearly. However, his lectures were mostly off topic and about his personal life. The midterm and final had material never discussed or learned, and he did not give feedback for any grading done in the class. Final was based on a case and had practically no course material.
Be careful he brings stuff that's not on the slides. Final is easy. Don't expect more then a 70.
Dwight is probably one of the most interesting profs I've ever had, his zoom classes were weirdly professional, he always had good music playing, a can of pop, and visually pleasing PowerPoints. He mostly spends lectures talking about his travels and personal life which forced me to read the textbook but it was really easy so I'm not mad about it.
Awesome prof. Best prof in Marketing.
Don't expect to learn anything from the lecture since the professor only interested in telling stories. You are better off skipping the lecture to study on the textbook instead. The only time you need a textbook is in the midterm and that it. Other than that, it is pretty easy to earn marks in his class.
Dwight is not well suited to online teaching. His lectures over Zoom are poorly run and he just rambles on for 40 mins before ending the call abruptly. That being said the class is easy to pass although hard to get a high mark in as Dwight grades tough. The marketing plan involves randomly assigned groups and is very vague as well.
Dwight is knowledgeable, but has no idea how to present a lesson. Class is not worth going, he rambles very off topic. The slides have no useful content at all, get the textbook if you want a mark above a 70%. That being said, there are many assignments that that will boost your grade, and Dwight won't fail you.
Dwight can certainly be an entertaining professor during his lectures as he does a fine job at creating connections between the course material and his personal experiences. However, the assignments and their instructions felt too vague and made the group projects needlessly difficult.
Attendance is not mandatory, the course is weighted on two case study midterms, a group project, and a final exam. The lectures are just Dwight talking about personal stories, but he's harmless and seems like a genuine guy through zoom. He answers his emails & messages regularly and is approachable. Would recommend overall.
Never got any feedback on graded stuff. Had two midterms and a group assignment, but never had any hint of where I/we needed improvement based on the work, just a mark. Lectures were mostly just him talking about examples. Needed to read the textbook just to understand what he was talking about. He seems like a nice guy, though.
Dwight is a really good prof that emphasizes the importance of application learning as opposed to textbook/memorization. Definitely gives another perspective of what it is like in a real career. His Markstrat project helps you gain so much knowledge for future use. Lectures can be a bit dry at times
Dwight is a good person, must get info from textbook as his powerpoint slides have no info, group project at the end is vague and expects everything to be designed by yourself. Love the hands on exams and no memorization is great if you do not do well with memorization and it is open book to apply theory. Overall great and caring guy.
All exams are take home, so be prepared to write papers. Do not rely solely on the textbook. There are some concepts you will need to apply in the exams that are only taught in class, which aren't in the text. Very caring guy, easy to talk to, plays good music, and brings in very knowledgeable guest lecturers (do not skip those classes!).
Dwight is a pretty interesting guy, really enjoyed his class so far and he is always willing to give guidance on assignments or projects.
He sucked barely taught anything and mainly talked about himself during class time. the group project sucked and we were not allowed to choose your partners
He's a nice guy but his lectures are so hard to follow and often don't amount to much. He goes off on irrelevant tangents and takes long silent pauses. He uses MarkStrat and you work in groups for the majority of the semester, but he never fully explains what he wants you to complete. Not a class I would recommend. Had a midterm in the first month.
Dwight is a great guy and is super understanding. If you have questions or need help he is willing to help if you ask him. Honestly not the best at delivering the information, but its not super complex stuff. Group project is a fun project, but can be very difficult depending on who your group members are. Not a hard class if you put some effort in
Interesting guy but lectures often feel all over the place and very optional learning-wise, recommend to get textbook since the slides provided are difficult to read, attendance is taken, odd exams since they were 5 short answers each that applied to a specific case provided beforehand, massive group project with no ability to pick partners before.
Dwight is an excellent marketing professor. If you like opportunities to be creative and brainstorm, you will enjoy his teaching style. He usually has unique assignments in his classes like online simulations and actual consulting projects that will start to prepare you for a creative or strategic marketing role.
This guy genuinely sucks avoid him at all costs. The class is "easy" if your good with getting a mark in the 70s because anything above that is borderline impossible. We had 2 midterms that he didn't even mark TAs marked it and they were brutal and when I asked him to specifically tell me where I lost marks he couldn't. His slides are the worst.
Dwight is a knowledgeable but disorganized lecturer. The class requires heavy textbook reliance and a challenging group project. However, he's understanding and provides helpful feedback. For study prep, Unstuckstudy and other online resources were a lifesaver.
Hate that I didn't see reviews before I took him. He's a great guy but I hate his teaching style. Lectures all over the place, long random pauses, asks random questions, weird slides, and we do a MarkStrat simulation where he doesn't even attempt to explain what we're supposed to do. Work feels stupid and common sense. I love marketing but hate him
The lectures are usually off topic and you will have to rely on reading the textbook for information needed on exams
Not enough people mention this but slideshows are insanely hard to follow and difficult to understand as there's never any correlation between them and what he's saying. He also takes super long pauses. Expect to do lots of group work outside of class.
Really easy class. The guy is fair, and the grading criteria is around MarkStrat as a group project and case studies. Attendance matters, and lectures are really boring. You get the case 1 day in advance for the midterm, so no surprises. Easy to pass his class in the 65-75% range.
Great prof! Class was mostly project based and wasn't too difficult if you are in a decent group. Lectures were fun and entertaining. I would recommend taking a class with Dwight.
His lectures are random and have little to no connection to actual marketing information. You will have your teach yourself through the textbook. Exams are very unclear and no mater what you study, he will add random stuff you can't prepare for. Tip: read the textbook and if you can, take BUS 210 with anyone else.
On the day of the final, three classes were taking the exam at the same time. Students from the other two professors' classes were already leaving in large numbers, but in Heinrichs class, not a single student had finished yet. That alone should tell you how bad it was. If you have other options, run while you still can. And if you dont, good luck.
