I appreciate that he makes the homework and quizzes worth the same amount as the exams, and he drops your two lowest scores, however he is very biased towards a political party, and it shows in his lectures and tests. If you dont agree with him or his values, you probably will not do as well on his exams.
Dr. Roblyer is a great professor. He provides lots of resources for those who want to succeed, including practice problems, extra credit, grade drops, and tons of chances to meet with him outside the classroom. Politically he is a centrist, something that would be glaringly obvious to anyone not on the far ends of the political spectrum. 10/10.
I did not like Robyler at the start. But once I realized his teaching methods were for a reason, I began to have a different pov of him. He wants you to succeed and gives you all the resources to do it. If you're lazy though, he is not the professor for you because you will have to work for an A. Lots of extra credit though, great guy, cares a lot.
Roblyer is a great guy, but this class was hard for me. I'll only manage an A because of extra credit, which I appreciate him offering. The lowest two exam grades are dropped which is also super helpful, but questions are worded in a way that makes them difficult. Overall he definitely helps you out, but you have to work for it yourself as well.
Professor Roblyer has made POLS207 my most hated class at TAMU. He puts answers on exams that could all be correct, makes constant grammatical errors that leave you confused, and wants you to work 15+ hours per week in his class. I scraped by with an A because his exams are not worth much and it's focused on other assignments. Don't take Roblyer.
Dr. Robyler is a great professor and a pretty good lecturer which I recommend going to even though attendance isn't mandatory. His class does have a lot of work but none of it is particularly hard or time-consuming, just got to do it and you'll likely easily pass with an A. There is a book and a website you have to buy access which was annoying
Simultaneously the easiest and hardest class ever. Drops a ton of grades and has a ton of homework. Tests can be difficult but the assignments are pretty much completion. Would take a million times over.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS if you want an easy class bc his exams are impossibles. TOO MUCH WORK for no reason. absolutely hate this class. 0/10 would not recommend. unless youre are pols major, dont take this course.
Dr Roblyer is an excellent professor! His lectures are well thought out and detailed, and he's such a great person. Lots of extra credit opportunities and his grading policy is great.
Professor Roblyer has the experience and knowledge and it shows when you take his course. The class and topic as a whole is not difficult to understand if you keep up to date in politics and understand American Government to a degree. LOTS of extra credit opportunities and strives for students' success in not just his class, but college as a whole.
Dr. Roblyer is a nice professor and has a good personality but for me, his exams were very difficult and most questions were from readings or the "Reality Checks" and it was hard for me to memorize all these different articles. There are also a lot of questions "based on what we said in lecture,..." Cannot express enough how lecture heavy it is.
Extremely knowledgeable and clearly cares about his students. The material itself isn't hard, but the tests are specific and often are about stuff talked in lecture, so be sure to watch his lecture videos beforehand if possible. Gives a lot of extra cred, and final wasn't cumulative. Not too much HW in my opinion. Honestly such a great professor.
Great professor for pols 207! Remains politically impartial while presenting solid facts and statistics. This class WILL require you to work a lot, but as long as you put in the effort, an A is easy. I finished the class with a 100.5%
I am a senior and don't let anyone fool you. This is THE EASIEST class I have ever taken. You would have to try to get less than a B. He drops 2 out of the 5 lowest exam scores. He also makes homework and RCs worth a large percentage. The only downfall is the amount of homework.
Most of the assignments are super easy and Dr. Roblyer drops a ton of your lowest grades, including 2 out of the 5 exams. I believe more than half of our (very large) class got an A. Also, Roblyer is super accessible and eager to help outside of class. He's my favorite professor ever. Just take him.
Most people who give him a bad rating didn't do well in the class or complain about homework. As a STEM major, the homework is not too bad I just think people are in majors that aren't as homework-heavy. I never studied for any exams nor went to lecture because of the EC and how he drops grades. lectures. You're insanely lazy if you can't get an A.
His lectures are boring, feel like forever, makes inappropriate comments during lectures(he apologizes for them after, but this shows his true nature & intent), and is unfair compared with other POLS 207 profs. Dropping two exams is nice, but other profs have practice problems, T/F exams, and a proper difficulty. He can't admit when he is wrong.
Dr. Robyler teaches the content well and makes his expectations clear. He drops the 2 lowest exam scores, curves the exams, and gives a ton of other extra credit. The only downside is that some of the exam questions are very specific and worded confusingly. I skipped 90% of lectures; everything you need to know is on the lecture slides.
If I would have cared about the class, I absolutely could have gotten an A. Good lecturer. 100% do all of those filler assignments. I took him 2 semesters ago and still regret not doing that tbh. Love the way his syllabus was put together because the guidelines for the whole course are layed out from day. He has a military background and it shows!
This class gets a bad rap but with all the extra credit an A is very easy to get. Don't wait to do the reality checks at the last minute and look over the lecture slides before the exam, do the extra credit and you will be fine.
Dr. Roblyer was caring and provided many opportunities for students to receive an A. The lowest 2 out of the first 4 exams were dropped, and so were the lowest grades on some homework assignments. There was a lot of extra credit. The homework probably took about 2 hours a week. Exams were curved and not too hard, I got As without too much studying.
This professor gives students lots of work, but lots of opportunity for extra credit and drops lot of grades. He also gives lots of resources for studying and many office hours opportunities! I recommend!
Dr. Roblyer is very kind & seems like a great person. He genuinely wants students to succeed, as he drops assignments, gives extra credit, & doesn't have a final. My only critique is that his class is a LOT of work. Not hard, just extensive homework that you have to stay on top of. If you do anything to prepare for exams, do the practice problems.
Roblyer mainly reads from his own lecture slides and doesn't add too much to them which means u can get away with not showing to class because he posts them on Canvas. He's more than willing to help u understand content, has 5 tests total where 2 of them are dropped, easy homework that requires little effort, and offers exam extra credit.
Great professor, but be prepared to work for his class. There are quite a few assignments and weekly time commitments, becomes tiring. There are 5 exams, the lowest 2 of the first 4 are dropped, and the final is not. Essentially 3 exams (20% each), current event paper (10%), weekly packback (10%) and Peerceptiv (20%) though he might remove it.
Roblyer is a very good professor. Assigns a lot of work, but doing all of it will help your grade in the long run. Lots of extra credit. The tests were hard for me but I was in a lot of hard classes this semester and pols is not a huge interest of mine, probably be easier if you enjoy the material and prioritize the class. A good one to take.
Professor Roblyer is extremely caring and even though his exams can be hard at first, the practice reviews he gives are exactly like the test so as long as you do those in detail and keep up with the readings it's a easy A. There were a lot of extra credit opportunities and dropped tests that boosted my grade.
EXTRA CREDIT. there's no way you shouldn't pass this class. drops 2 lowest exams out of 4, extra credit applied to the overall average, both exams, and finals. always curves a little. studying is necessary, lots of busy work, lots of material, very overwhelming at first but it gets better! first exam is the easiest, try get a good grade!
I am not a POLS major but I found the lectures to be intriguing. Attendance is not mandatory but Roblyer is very passionate about what he teaches so I recommend going. We had five exams but he drops two of them, except the final one. He is VERY generous with grading and giving extra credit. His exams are, in my opinion, memory based.
Professor Roblyer cares a lot about teaching and genuinely wants his students to understand the material. His lectures are helpful, but you can also just look at the powerpoints on canvas. There is so much extra credit available (I got +5 points on my semester grade lol). Take Roblyer for POLS 207 if you want an easy A.
Roblyer is a great professor who is extremely organized. He offers numerous extra credit opportunities and his class is more focused on long-term learning than short-term. Make sure you put an effort towards learning material because if you don't then the class will be difficult. It might seem overwhelming at first but it becomes manageable.
I literally skipped one of the tests because I did good on the first 3 and he drops one and so I didn't attend class for the whole unit and still got an A. His lectures are pretty boring in my opinion and I stopped going in like October and still got an A just from reading the powerpoints. Not the best prof but an easy class.
Great prof, very understanding of students circumstances and actually makes you learn course material rather than memorizing concepts. The quiz assignments are based on readings and tests are closed note online. There's a lot of extra credit and he drops an exam so make sure to take advantage of that.
he's nice and you can tell he cares about the subject a lot, but this class makes me insane. not a good class for someone with adhd
A fair teacher with clearly stated rules and expectations, way too much reading, assignments are time consuming and annoying to do, some not even relating to the class/being tested he just wants you to read it and makes a quiz over it. He offers many opportunities to get a good grade but take another prof for an easy A cause Roblyer is not it.
Lectures are kind of boring but the tests are 90% based off lecture slides. He drops 2/5 exams and gives so much extra credit. You have the option to get a total of 5% on your overall semester grade with extra credit. There is a heavy workload but the tests are a pretty low percentage of your grade so you have room for error.
He gives a lot of extra credit, but there's a lot of time consuming assignments. The tests are unnecessarily difficult and weighed SO MUCH! If you're just taking this for the credit, go to another prof. This class was made much harder than it needed to be.
Dr. Roblyer is the best POLS207 professor. He is very caring and cares deeply about the Aggie Honor Code. While tests can be specific and a tad difficult, he tells you everything that will be on the exams while includes textbook readings and reality checks. There are a lot of extra credit opportunities. Easy B or A
Very sweet man. I got a B even when the highest exam grade I got was a 56%. There is a lot of homework/busy work and he drops 2 of your lowest exams. Its hard to pass the exams but its hard to fail the class if that makes sense. Lectures aren't mandatory but like the exams are impossible so maybe you should go because I never did.
Unnecessarily heavy workload for a university required class and he knows it. There is an abundant of content that you need to know in depth for every test. Do not take him if you are in upper level classes. Gives extra credit, but be aware that it could take all day to complete. Would not take him again.
5 Exams, which if you do not study intensively for you will fail. The course had is ridiculous for a 200 level class, and he is a nice guy. Extra credit, drops two lowest exams, but the amount of reading, assignments, and hard exams are just not worth taking. Attendance isn't mandatory but if you skip even one you will be behind.
This is probably the hardest class I have ever had and it is just for a POLS credit. If you can take anyone else, please do it.
I genuinely do not understand why he gives so many assignments when he is fully aware that majority of students that take his class are doing so for credit. This class is one of my most homework heavy classes that I've ever had and I'm in a lot of STEM courses right now. DO NOT TAKE HIM FOR POLS 207. Do it online or with a better professor
Yes he gives lots of homework, but he cares for his students. Lots of low scores get dropped or curved, he was very kind in helping me with grade projections, and he often talks about how hopeful he is for our generation. If you commit yourself to this class you will do fine, but my friends who would often skip are failing.
By the time you finish this class, you will have read about a BILLION different articles. A lot of the assignments are busy work that are absolutely useless. This class was just so unnecessarily hard, the average for EVERY exam was failing AFTER A CURVE. I would not recommend this professor to ANYONE, it is too stressful and time consuming!!
Dr. Roblyer is the greatest professor that I have had. His attention to detail, dedication to student success, and commitment to academic integrity set him far ahead of his peers. He has several hundred pages of detailed study materials for each topic, and heavily incentivizes real learning and understanding. I cannot recommend him highly enough.
His course felt unnecessarily difficult hw & exam wise. I studied thoroughly (textbook, notes, practice questions) & exams would still have q's on material I'd swear I'd never seen before. Quizzed on articles and Aggie honor code, both of which having practically nothing to do w/ the exams. Seems like a nice guy, but the class is infuriating.
STAY AWAY Roblyer was recommended as an "easy A" but his tests are no longer open note and are from HELL! Exam grades for my class were around 60. Extra credit takes HOURS to do. He pushes his own view the whole time while saying he's not. I love the honor code but he actually terrifies you w it bc he's on honor council. this class will run ur life
Roblyer is a great lecturer, he is interesting and easy to listen to, he is also very available and provides lots of chances for extra credit. He gives 5 exams, 2 of which are dropped, these exams make up ~50% of your grade, the rest is homework and pack backs. It is very easy to get an A in his class, but he does care ALOT about the honor code.
One of the best profs I have ever had, and he genuinely wants you to succeed. He gives a fair amount of work but with weeks to do it, so if you manage your time well enough you will not fall behind. If you attend lectures and work the practice problems you will get a good grade and learn some pretty interesting things.
Roblyer was a nice guy but took his job too seriously. I think he decided to make his class harder this semester because too many people were getting A's in his class before. He gives extra credit, curves, and drops the two lowest test scores, but they were super specific and hard. I recommend taking Jesse Chupp for POLS 207.
Great professor, but made his class too much work. As a BIMS major, I didn't have time to care about his long assignments and extra readings. There are easier profs. It's easy to do well (he also drops the 2 of 5 test grades). DO NOT USE CHAT GPT. He accused my lecture hall of using it, and unfortunately most people did.
Dr. Roblyer is great. He gives out lots of busywork but it's important to do well on the tests. Do EVERYING that he recommends/assigns and you will get an A. The practice problems are key to doing well on the exams. He grooms his students to actually learn the material and do well in other classes. Highly recommend.
Very respectful and kind professor. Don't forget to do packbacks and reality checks and take all the extra credit you can.
Dr. Roblyer is very kind. He is the most organized professor I've had at A&M so far. He lays everything out so clearly in Canvas. He gives lots of extra credit. He provides you with practice problems that GREATLY help with preparing for exams. Homework is very light. He doesn't livestream or post recorded lectures, but attendance isn't mandatory.
Probably the easiest class I've taken at A&M. While the tests are closed-note, doing the practice problems a couple of days before was enough for me to get As and high Bs on all of the exams. He drops 2 exams and curves more as the semester goes on. However, don't think this is a blow-off course and put in some effort, and you'll be fine.
Pretty easy class, lots of opportunities to succeed and he covers some interesting content. Slides are actually super interesting but as a lecturer he can be a little boring at times. If you put it in the bare amount of effort, it is extremely easy to get an A.
If you are a POLS major or have a light semester course load, take Roblyer for 207 because the class is well designed and easy to get a good grade in IF you put in the effort. If you are looking for a low effort easy A for 207 do not take him, the workload is heavy for a Core Curriculum class.
If you do all of the extra credit (which is pretty time consuming) this class is an easy A. Do NOT, and I repeat, do NOT use chat GPT for the discussion posts. He will find out and you will get an F*. He takes honor code very seriously. Tests were pretty difficult but 2 of them are dropped. Not a lot of graded assignments, use all of your resources
One of the greatest lecturers I've had in college so far, really makes you care about politics. Super approachable and willing to help out students. Drops 2 exams, weekly work isn't that much ppl are just whiny, and was one of the only classes that I was interested to listen to lectures of. Really easy class and ended w/ above a 100
He is a sweet man and a passionate professor, but his class is way too much work on top of other classes. The tests are tough, but he does drop two test grades. Between his assignments being time-consuming and tedious, there is an easier professor you can take.
He seems like a cool guy, but there must be easier professors for this class. Lots of homework, and tests are pretty hard over VERY specific information. I like how he is very clear about what he considers cheating. Just do not do what he says specifically not to do and you won't get the F*.
If you are a STEM major, choose a different prof. It's ridiculous the amount of work he gives. This class should have been 4 credits, not 3. I did more homework and studying for this class than I did for my organic chemistry and biology courses. If you are a working stem major like me, this isn't the class for you. There are easier profs out there.
Dr. Roblyer is amazing. He gives lots of busywork but without it you would simply fail the class. Every assignment has the intention of making you learn the material. He is extremely knowledgeable about the content, and brings current events into lectures which makes it super interesting. If you do everything he assigns you will get an A.
His lectures are not intriguing, they drag on. It was my most difficult course, and had the most excessive assignments, (like having to wait 12 hours between attempts on a certain assignment). Any material in his class was basically fair game for the exams. If you have an insane amount of time to study for exams, I would NOT recommend this class.
Bro gives work like he's our only class. If you don't love POLS, RUN. This class is heavy on understanding and applying POLS, which my STEM brain can't do. If you're taking other hard classes, DO NOT take Roblyer. His exams are based on a million different sources and you will fail the exams if you can't keep up.
Dr. Roblyer cares deeply about his students and does his best to make sure everyone succeeds. He gives a lot of homework and most of it isn't helpful and doesn't pertain to questions on exams, but it helps boost overall course grades with free hundreds. Exams can be somewhat difficult but they are curved and he is very willing to go over the exams.
Do not take if you have other options. Give so much UNNECCESARY homework that's not even related to the lecture/test material and thinks everyone loves pols. Very boring lectures and the tests are incredibly random and confusing. He is also so unorganized the canvas is a nightmare and he can't even figure out how to sync our grades.
Dr. Roblyer actually cares about his students and wants them to do well. There are quizzes and packbacks every week, but they aren't actually difficult. If you just do the assignments, it's really easy to get your grade up. Some of the exams were hard, but he curves and drops the lowest two exams. There's plenty of extra credit too.
There are 5 total exams, attendance quizzes every class, weekly pack back posts, 2/3 connections activities (quizzes) before every exam, and a current event paper. He's great but he spams canvas. The exams also don't have the best averages- he does give curves though, but I'd still only take this if I was willing to read.
Amazing prof. Overall this class is VERY forgiving compared to most classes. There are 5 exams, two lowest get dropped. Lots of extra credit, curves, and free 100s. You should do the practice problems and read the few textbook excerpts to score well. GO TO CLASS AND PAY ATTENTION or you will not get an A, as many of the lower raters have found out.
Dr. Roblyer is great. His tests are hard, but he gives extra credit, curves on exams, and lots of assignments to help boost your grade. He weights the class to even if you get bad test grades, you are still able to do well in the class. This class is hard, but Roblyer is very invested in the success of his students and wants everyone to succeed.
Lots of extra credit so it's ultimately a free A. Exams are crazy hard but 2 of 5 get dropped and they're curved pretty heavily. He's fine but there are much better options.
Moderately difficult class but great professor. Coursework is easy to manage.
Dr. Roblyer is a very caring professor. He does take this course very seriously. There is a lot of extra work in this class that seemed kind of unnecessary but it does help provide cushion for your grade. His exams are tough but if you go to lecture and take notes, you will do okay. He also curves. Don't take this as a senior, it was not a blowoff.
Decent professor, but ALOT of work to receive an A. Exams were 55% of the course grade and covered very specific material. For our section, the class average was only passing for one of the five exams. Two exam scores are dropped, but in order to get an A in the class you have to complete all homework and score above average on three tests.
Any review saying this class is an easy A is lying. Class average for my section has been a failing grade every test. He's very particular and it's a heavy workload, you can def take an easier prof and get the same amount of knowledge and gain out of the course without the stress.
Professor Roblyer is very caring and understandning. He offers free skips for missing class, and allows for makeup exams. Very kind and offers plenty of extra credit. As long as you pay attention in class and do the homework, which seems like a lot of assignments at first but is very manageable, you will succeed.
This professor is great and has been teaching for a while; however, it was boring for me as a BIMS major. Tests were really hard even when I studied, but they are curved. Tests are 55% and there is weekly homework. Extra credit is provided but you would have to work a lot for it. Overall, this class should not have been this hard as a core class.
He is very good. His lectures cover exactly what is on the test, the test are open note, and you do not have to go to class if you understand the general concepts. Love him, would take again.
okay. I know he is really passionate about his work but he just be doing the most. his canvas is really overwhelming and you HAVE to put in the work to good. He gives a lot of extra credit and he drops 2 exams but you have to stay on top of stuff or you'll get lost. lectures are also super boring and you need to do all the outside work to do well.
This class is overcomplicated for a state and local government class, and the mean exam scores were usually in the 60s -70s with a curve which is low for a state required introductory course. Caused unnecessary stress, I should have taken this at community college.
Lectures tend to drag and often drift off to topics that aren't relavent. Little interesting, but overall boring and with weekly discussion posts and roughly 1 quiz per week. Honestly not difficult just a draining class. He's respectful and seems to care about teaching.
Dr. Roblyer is a very kind man and it's clear that he cares about his students. However, if you are not in love with the intricacies of state and local governments, do NOT take him. In order to do well in the course, you need to dedicate so much time into studying. I'm in computer engineering and the HW took longer than some of my STEM classes.
Roblyer was overall a good prof. He has opportunities for extra credit and his exams were pretty straight forward if you reviewed the guiding questions he has at the beginning of all his lecture slides. There's weekly packback and reading quizzes, but you get 2 chances on the quizzes so it's not that bad. Overall not hard if you put in some effort
Class average for all 4 exams was a failing grade in my section, and he kept insisting that we weren't implementing proper study habits each time. Work load is overwhelming and way too time consuming.
POLS 207 was a great class and the prof was great. there were lots of things outside lecture to help balance out grades so it wasn't just all tests. While i felt like i payed a lot of attention and understood the material, the tests are all over the place so it's hard to know exactly what to study for. Roblyer is always willing to help you
Dr. Roblyer is very organized. The class engagement was variable. He gives many opportunities to get an A in the class, especially with extra credit to the total grade and Exam 5. He drops 2 of the first 4 exams. Lots of easy homework but time-consuming in reading and writing. He is very strict on the honor code. Roughly 70% attendance required.
Dr. Roblyer is not only a very organized and informative professor, but a genuine man who cares deeply for both his students and his institution. Class covers a lot of very real and sensitive issues in our world and I believe he does so in a manor that is relatable, and easy to understand. Drops 2 tests, plenty of extra credit, highly recommend!
He was okay, if you try super hard on the first two tests you'll probably end up with an A but beware that his tests are ridiculously vocab-heavy. Super hard on his students about the honor code. Wasted HOURS of my life on reality checks. Opportunity for 5 pts extra credit added to your total grade at the end of the year. Lowkey boring lectures.
Amazing and thought provoking lectures if you listen. Pay attention in class and put effort into the assignments and they wont take as long as you think. Exam grades will come easily if you do this. I was diligent in assignments throughout the semester and paying attention in lecture and didnt have to study for one exam to get a high A.
Dr. Roblyer is an amazing professor, and he made POLS 207 very fun and interesting to learn. The only critique I have is that the course is quite rigorous. He gives out quite a lot of outside homework assignments and quizzes, but he drops quite a lot of assignments at the end of the semester and there is quite a lot of extra credit opportunities.
I stressed everyday taking this class. If this is just a core curriculum for you and you are not in a POLS major, DO NOT take it with Roblyer. Other profs have way easier tests and open book but not him. Makes insanely difficult assignments that you have to pore over the textbook for. Save yourself and take POLS with literally anyone else.
Dr. Roblyer truly cares about his students, however the amount of work he assigns for a core curriculum class is insane. He is also very very strict about the honor council and will scare you with it. Basically take another prof because he is the most difficult 207 prof.
I would take Dr. Roblyer if you can. He is extremely organized and course grade projection and expectations are very clear. It is extremely easy to get an A in his class as long as you do all of the assignments and extra credit. He is very easy to approach and cares about his students. Beware that the tests can be pretty hard, but he drops 2.
Dr. Roblyer's lectures were very intriguing but very important for test material. He drops the 2 lowest tests (out of the first 4) which makes it very easy to keep a good grade.
Great Professor, as for the class: there's 5 tests, and you can drop two of the first four. In other words, you technically only have to pay attention and study for two units and you can chill until the final exam which is non-comprehensive. The tests themselves aren't super difficult as long as you study the learning objectives/practice questions.
I loved Dr. Roblyer. Genuinely, I have never met a professor that cared that much about his students, even if there was no way for him to remember all of them. He signs all his emails and announcements with "working for your success" and it's the truth. He truly does want his students to excel not just in his class, but in life in general.
Professor Roblyer is a great professor. The class is not difficult if you just do the work. He is always available if you have questions and truly cares about the success of his students. For the tests, he throws out the lowest two out of five. As long as you do the practice questions, you will be fine.
This class was an unnecessary amount of work - reality checks, packbacks, and five exams. With that said, he drops two out of the five exams, and he gives tons of extra credit/curves exams a lot. It is very easy to get an A in this class as long as you are completing assignments and showing up to class (takes attendance through canvas quizzes).
Really easy class, just try to go to lectures. There are weekly packbacks and a few quizzes for each test, but the workload isn't bad. He drops two tests and doesn't weight exams too heavily, plus there are lots of extra credit opportunities. The biggest thing is DO NOT CHEAT!! He is very clear about how serious he is about the honor code.
Dr Roblyer genuinely cares about his students and offers office hours multiple times a week. His lectures were engaging, and he presents material objectively instead of ranting about his own political beliefs. He drops your two lowest exam grades, and while there is a lot of reading, it's not overwhelming as long as you manage your time well.
He is a very genuine person, and is very passionate about his class and his students. But if political science is not your area of interest, then you are probably better off taking another professor. It is very easy to get an A, but there is TONS of "busy work" that can keep you more occupied than your main classes.
He ok
If you want an A in this class, you will get an A. Roblyer gives plenty of opportunities for extra credit, and there are 5 exams with 2 dropped. Biggest problem is that this class has a tedious amount of work. I enjoyed what I learned about Local Government, but the lectures can get a bit boring. Do. Not. Cheat. He's very big about this.
He cares about the subject and his students. The lectures can grow boring towards the middle of the class. A huge chunk of the course grade for this class was dropped so getting an A is a given as long as you have the time to put the very large amount of work in. If you are one for shortcuts and easy ways out this class may not be for you.
he is a genuinely great guy and is very passionate ab the subject & the success of his students inside and outside the class too :) he is very caring and will listen to and help you. dont go in thinking its another blow-off basics class lol there is a lot of hw, but he drops some hw and exam grades and offers good extra credit!!
This class has tons of assignments that can take awhile to do. However, they do help balance out your test grades. No matter how much I studied I would still have exam questions about something I had never seen before. Pay attention in lectures! Drops 2 test grades. Attendance is taken.
He's a good and fair professor. There are many assignments and reading material, do them and read them. There are many opportunities to improve your grades, so try to get as many of them. Do attend his lectures. Exams for me are a bit hard, but if you get the assignments done, then they can help tank your grades. And please, respect the Honor Code.
Dr. Roblyer was a pretty good professor and was a nice guy. He's tries to instill principles that will help you outside of just this class, which I appreciated. There is a decent amount of homework and exams are open-note, but still moderately difficult. You'll have to put in the work, but he's very responsive to emails and would recommend.
He is an amazing professor who will give dozens of resources to his students to help. However he focuses heavily on critical thinking. He believes every student should be able to go into PoliSci after his class. If you can attend all of his lectures and keep up with all the homework, you will be fine. There is also multiple extra credit options.
Good guy overall, but his class was eh. Lectures can be a boring but you can tell he tries to be engaging. Offers a lot of extra credit which is great, but there is A LOT of busy work. While I will say it helps prepare for the exams it is overboard. He teaches this class like everyone is a polisci major and this class should be your priority.
not good don't take him you've been warned
Professor Roblyer is a great guy and while I like him as a person, his lectures put everyone to sleep. The tests were very much based off of his in class lectures which he did not choose to record and post online. The Aggie Honor Code is his bible. He also accused a vast majority of students of cheating on assignments and asked for self reports.
Required attendance to lectures that are just him reading off the slides posted on canvas. So much homework constantly. Very paranoid of cheating and will pretend he has evidence of people cheating. Ended up with a good grade but would be easier to take another professor that makes the class less stressful.
This professor gives a lot of busy work such as RC packback and textbook and articles that you have to read. Please don't cheat guys be smart , he has evidence and a lot of people have gotten caught. Just be honest with your work the failing grade is not worth it just do your work and listen to his instructions
Don't cheat guys he has all the evidence and has been vocal about the catching people process. He is not joking around. Honor code rule guy and part of the council so don't even think about trying he will find you.
The feedback he gives is clear and he genuinely cares about his student's success, tests are graded fairly and usually curved depending on the average grades. Dr. Roblyer does an amazing job reviewing the exams and allows bonus points to be gained throughout the semester. His attendance policy is the fairest I've seen at A&M University.
Tests could be difficult, but there was so much busy work that it balanced everything out if you got a bad grade. I felt like I learned a lot in the course, and although lecture was a little boring, I could tell Prof. Roblyer was passionate about his topic and wanted students to do well.
He is very strict around any matter involving the Aggie Honor Code. In the midst of finals week, he accused and berated the entire class of cheating on assignments that had been completed earlier in the semester. He attempted to psychologically pressure many students into self-reporting, and never gave proof of anyone actually cheating.
Dr. Roblyer gives an insane amount of work for a prerec class. He psychologically guilt tripped students into self reporting for cheating with no proof. He claimed to have evidence and REFUSED to show anyone. The Aggie handbook was his bible like someone else said. I do not recommend taking this class unless you LOVE pols and worship left beliefs.
This professor acts like political science is the most important class you will ever take. He is an extremely strict person when it comes to deadlines and late work. Everything in his class is due at 5PM, and his test questions are very advanced. This is not the class to take if you are just trying to get a POLs credit and a GPA booster.
He clearly cares about every single student. Attendance is required but you are allowed to miss a significant number of classes without it affecting your grade. Lectures are on canvas. Very in depth practice problems that act as a review for the exams. He is a stickler for the honor code. He offers all of the tools to succeed in his course.
You WILL get an A provided you do the work. Don't even try to cheat, just apply yourself. He drops so many grades and provides so much extra credit. It is time-consuming but very straightforward. Study the practice problems, it will improve your grade so much. You have to take POLS 207, taking it with Roblyer guarantees an A for hard workers.
I learned more about the A&M honor code than political science in this course. Test questions are so niche and worded to trick you, yet tests are not weighed much so I got an A. Two tests are dropped, yet attendance is required the whole semester. Weekly packback assignments, quizzes he narcisstically calles "reality checks", and practice problems.
This whole class is really poorly designed, from the 25 intro modules that should be replaced with a simple syllabus, to the lectures that last 50 minutes but could be summed up in 5. Hmwk and exam questions are misleading and require you to think the same way as Roblyer. There's more focus on the honor code in this class than actual politics.
Roblyer is an outrageous prof, to say the least. He treats POLS 207 like it's religion and treats every student like they're a political science major when in reality it's a pre-rec that everyone has to take. The amount of homework/busy work that he gives is completely unjustifiable with tests that are impossible to consistently do well on.
Dr. Roblyer is an amazing prof, the course looks intimidating on Cavnas but that's because he puts a lot of modules in there to explain things. He dropped 2/4 exams and curved them all. Waiting to take the final right now but im not scared at all because his lectures are thorough and the exam prep is clear and designed clearly for the exams
If you read any good ratings... they're lying to you. DO NOT TAKE HIS COURSE. He will accuse the entire class section of cheating at the end of each semester to scare students. It's always in the midst of finals. Find another professor.
Good professor. He drops 2 out of the 4 main tests and usually curves them. He doesn't give many assignments. Assignments take time but are easy 100. The exams are not too difficult and if you do the bare minimum of studying you should pass them. You are only required to attend 19 out of the 29 lectures to receive full credit for attendance.
Tests come directly from slideshow but answer choices are so hard and confusing that he gives you the questions that will appear on the exam in the form of practice problems. Averages are usually around a 70 but he always curves and gives plenty extra credit including an opportunity to add 5 points to grade. you have plenty of time to complete work
He is very sweet and wants students to use this material after the class is done, not just learn it. I used it as a blow-off class so I didn't end well but if you put effort in you're good. Gives a good amount of EC for course grade which was really helpful. 5 exams (drops 2) about 25 homeworks in total, attendance graded, final is not cumulative.
First of all, the extra credit in this class is not extra credit- it may as well be mandatory. For an introductory level POLS class, Dr. Roblyer adds A LOT of work into this class. I spent way to much of my time working through this class. Additionally, the test often asked questions about what country he used in examples.
He's a great guy and great prof. LOTS of work but he drops a lot of grades and gives plenty of extra credit. Very unbiased in political views and always gives both sides fairly. He's extremely serious about the Honor Code. Like, to the point it borders on paranoia. Don't even try to cheat; he's on the Honor Council.
He is an amazing professor that really does care about his students. Although his class is exam heavy (5 exams) he does drop 2 of the first 4. He is on the honor counsel so he will catch you if you cheat. I would not take his class if you have a heavy semester. Will help you figure out how to succeed.
Roblyer is very passionate about the subject and it shows. He is very caring about his students. There are five exams, but two are dropped. There are weekly Packbacks (drops 2) and about 15 Reality Checks (drops 3). It can be a lot of work, but if you stay on top of it, it shouldn't get too overwhelming, pay attention. He gives extra credit options
I loved Roblyer, he is a really nice professor and wants you to succeed. He drops 2/5 lowest exams so you can do mid on 2 and mid on the final and still get an A. There are quite a bit of homework assignments but overall this class is so doable and Roblyer makes an A very attainable.
Reads off his slides in class. No open discussion, not open to questions. His lectures are heavily bias, with graphs and scatter plots that you must refer to during exams. Overload of homework material also referenced in exams. Test questions are meant to trick you. Learned more about the Aggie honor code. Expects you to meet with him to succeed.
He is one of the most caring profs out there...super understanding. Lots of content for him to go through in during lecture so he can't accept a lot of questions in class, but he is more than willing to take questions during office hours. He drops 2 exams so it isn't hard to get an A. Literally just go to class, do reality checks, do the packbacks.
Bit of an odd guy, deadlines at 5pm, and a strange method of dropping assignments. Great lecturer however and the exams are quite easy despite what he may say, which makes it extremely easy to get an A if you want an A.
Dr. Roblyer REALLY cares about his students, and wants everyone to succeed. Be a good ag and follow the honor code. Do the packbacks, and retake the reality checks for an A. Test questions can be hard to understand, but build the habit of doing practice problems when he says to. DO the extra credit & sit infront if you get distracted easily.
Really cares about his students and wants everyone to succeed. Packbacks are weekly and takes time, but they aren't hard to do, same thing with the reality checks. Exams can be a bit difficult but as long as you study, you should be fine. Curves depends on how well the class does. If you put in the work and follow the honor code, you'll be fine.
Dr. Roblyer is an amazing professor who cares about his students and will work to make sure you learn the information and pass his class. He is an extremely kind man and you will be lucky if you are in his class. He was my favorite professor at A&M.
Might be the worst professor I've ever taken. He was obsessed with people cheating? He was extremely passive aggressive and his tests made no sense. Lots of extra credit at the end so getting an A isn't hard. But, it's not worth the workload and stress. Take someone else.
The packbacks and reality checks were so annoying and time-consuming. There are better professors that teach 207.
His lectures were interesting but his tests were horrible. He kept saying he wants his students to succeed but all of his test questions were meant to trick you. The homework was really annoying and long too.
Roblyer is a good prof. Tests are easy, and the lectures cover everything. Just ignore his very aggressive cheating soapbox; he does it every year from what I've heard.
I don't know if this professor actually cares about the honor code, or if he is just obsessed with catching students cheating. He seems to care about students, but then has a condescending attitude that totally contradicts that. i was already well-versed in pols so i skipped most classes to avoid the aggravation lol & still came out with an A
Really not that hard to do well in this class. The exams are a little tricky but the grading scale is ridiculously generous. Reality checks are a little tedious but not that bad either, and I generally liked his lectures.
Its easy to get an A in this class with all the extra credit but hes a whack ahh prof. I would find a different professor but if you take him don't fall for his honor code violation trick, hes obsessed with getting students to turn themselves in. He has some cool stories though.
This class is very homework heavy, and you really need to pay attention to deadlines. I could not keep up with the amount of work and the tests were nearly 2 weeks apart from each other. You need to have enough time in your semester to take his class.
Good luck. He makes the exams genuinely impossible to study for, including overly specific references of a single word/sentence that he quotes in class. Ask anyone.
Said he wanted to confuse me in the exams when I asked for help, so I would think about it more. Wasn't helpful when asking him or the TA for help. Homework's have a 12 hour waiting period when doing the assignments for a second attempt. The extra credit helped but it takes a long time. Would not recommend this class.
Dr. Roblyer's exams are definitely hard because there is a LOT of content, but he drops two of your lowest scores out of the five (besides the final). Just do like mediocre on two exams and do ALL the extra credit and you can easily get an a. Also try to keep up with deadlines because there is lots of homework.
Pros: He seems to genuinely care about the students and wants us to succeed, drops a lot of scores, provides extra credit, and gives us 10 free unexcused absences Cons: The exams are very difficult, he's strangely obsessed with the Aggie Honor Code, and lectures can be kind of boring
Professor Roblyer is very procedural. However, this doesn't stop him from caring about students. He gave us his personal phone number. Roblyer also is decently nonpartisan, which you have to respect nowadays. Honestly, the class was pretty easy. If you come to class, you'll get an A. He drops two tests at the end.
You learn more about the Aggie honor code than political science. Enormous load of homework considering none of us are political science majors. You will have to remember everything from the lecture to be successful. Most averages on the tests are from 50-70s then he will give a curve. If you think this class is a easy A it isn't.
Professor Roblyer made this class much harder than it should have been. His exams were extremely difficult, as well as hard to study for. Lectures were fine. Allows lots of absences, but I wouldn't miss. On the bright side, he has a lot of work outside of exams, helps grade. Drops 2 exams, but don't take for granted. All office hours are on zoom.
EXTREMELY strict on academic dishonesty to the point of withholding final course grades
Anybody trying to take POLS 207 don't take it with this guy. This class is supposed to be an easy class. Assigns so much useless work. No proper communication on material simply doesn't just teach things. He teaches off slides and then says If you do an assignment fast you are a cheater and you are getting reported. Also canvas so hard to navigate.
Bro is fr obsessed with the honor code all these reviews are not a joke for anyone wondering. Bro is chill most of the time, occasionally makes comments about a certain ideology but doesn't bother most people. Attend lecture and do hw/extra credit and you'll be fine
Good guy, will have homework's and quizzes that have nothing to do with the exams, lots of homework but only the lectures matter test-wise
Robyler, while being serious about the honor code, does a great job in lecture in explaining the topics. Offers TONS of extra credit if you don't do well on the exams, and drops two of the four exams throughout the semester. His exams mostly align with the lecture material, so there aren't any surprising questions. Lots of work though
One of the harder POLS teachers, strict on honor code, drops 2 exams, LOTS of extra credit on course and exams, curves exams, homework is kinda busy work, doable but not free A.
Roblyer is a nice man and respected. I learned a lot in his class, but the tests are impossible, like they're meant to trick you, not test what you learned. He does give extra credit, so you can get an A if you put in the effort. But the busywork and effort aren't worth it for a political science class. Also, weirdly obsessed with Aggie Honor.
Dr. Roblyer is a good lecturer and provides practice problems to reinforce understanding. He will gladly help you with any problems you have and has many zoom meetings so you can ask questions. He is very adamant about the Aggie Honor Code and while it may seem strange, it's nice to have a professor be very clear on what you can and cannot do.
Professor Roblyer is a very caring teacher, and provides lots of ways to earn extra credit. His exams are very difficult, but he drops two so it leaves room for a little error. Very good person and cares about you and that you succeed, but is a tough grader with lots of work.
he honestly isn't that bad. he gives lots of extra credit and dropped grades. attendance is only 50% mandatory. he has sooo many office hours and SI sessions. the work isn't really that hard, just can be time consuming sometimes. everything you need is in canvas. he is really good about helping you out.
He is a great professor who really cares about his students and wants you to succeed. The tests are a little difficult but he gives extra credit, drops low scores, and there are a lot of other assignments to help balance it out. The work load can be a lot and time consuming but if you stay on top of it it's pretty manageable.
Kind professor, wants you to pass. Tests are hard but drops 2. Drops a lot of stuff and offers extra credit that will boost your grade. Only have to attend 19/29 lectures after exam one. SI sessions and Zoom meetings are helpful. Roblyer is on Honor Council, do the work and get the grade you earn...just abide by the code and you'll be fine.
Dr. Roblyer's class is very lecture heavy and based off of the slides, which he provides before class for you to review. The actual course material is not hard, its just the quantity of the material that you have to learn. He provides you with practice questions that help you learn the material for the test. He is very accessible outside class.
Dr. Roblyer is one of the best professors at A&M. His class is insanely lecture heavy, which leads to tests having hard and complex questions that reference lots of information on slides. While tests are hard, two are dropped and there is so much extra credit and easy 100's to get. Dr Roblyer is eager to help as much as possible, Great Professor.
Very obviously cares about the material and his students, great professor. Answer all the practice problems thoroughly after lecture using slides and then again before exam from memory and you'll be fine. Lots of homework but all helps with understanding. Be ready to commit lots of time to this class.
He has a lot of homework and classwork compared to other POLS 207 teachers, but it is very fair. You learn a lot through this class with Dr. Roblyer - he is very thorough and extremely generous with grades.
Dr Roblyer is the most caring Prof. However, his test is hard but 2 out of 5 drop with adjustments + EC. His grading is most forgiven and fair, if you do good on test you do not have to do extra assignments and if you failing you can do extra assignments to bring your grade up. A is attainable. Only 66% attendance is required. 10/10 person 8/10prof
Great professor, even better person. Exams are manageable as long as you study the practice problems. He drops 2 exams, offers plenty of extra credit, and wants you to succeed. Homework is busy work and can be tedious at times, but it is easy. Take him- lots of wiggle room and an easy class overall.
Pros: Great professor, caring, encouraging, and understanding. Provides lots of extra credit & practice problems (most test questions mirror them). Drops the 2 lowest of each assignment type (besides the last exam). Free textbook too. Cons: Lots of reading and work on your part. If you actively listen in lectures & take notes, you'll do fine
LOVED THIS CLASS! now I want to major in pols! Robyler is an incredible lecturer- if you put in the effort to show up, you will do great! Take notes off the practice problems he supplies! I got sick, and he excused my absence. He is truly there to help you learn! He's so caring!! lots of extra credit after midterm! may seem tough, but soo worth it!
Had him in Fall 23. Roblyer is a great prof to have as an intro to the workload you should be expecting from college. His lectures are amazing and cover most of the material you'll need to know for the course. He holds his students to a high expectation but he'll help you get there as long as you put in the work. I'm glad I had him as my 1st prof.
As someone who is very invested in politics and spends a lot of time researching and reading the news. This class is no joke. The tests are extremely convoluted and hint at topics he will refer to in class randomly and you'll be expected to recall verbatim what he said LITERALLY. PLEASE DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Way too obsessed with honor code, literally everything you do will have 3 different questions about the honor code. He does care for his students. All the tests are meant to trick you. His practice questions for tests often make no sense and aren't related to the test at all. It is easy to get A but only bc of amount of work.
I would 100% take Dr. Roblyer for POLS 207. His exams can be confusing and difficult, however he drops the lowest 2 out of 5 exams. He also gives extra credit and assignments that help boost your grade. I didn't get an A on any of the exams all semester and I still finished with a 98% in the class. You can tell he really cares for his students.
Roblyer cares about his students... many ways to receive assistance in the course. His class is useful (but try to avoid the 8am). DEFINITELY use the practice problems to do well on exams. Follow his advice on being able to "explain the concepts" to get an A. Only complaint is the busy work- the reality checks took a while to complete.
Dr. Roblyer is a great professor, is very accessible outside of class, and gives extra credit. Pay attention during lecture and do the practice problems. The only thing that I personally did not like about his class was the amount of busy work that was assigned, mainly the reality checks. They were a bit time consuming and required lots of reading
Roblyer has a rep around campus for his "cheating accusations" but this should NOT change your thoughts on taking his class. He really cares about his students on a personal level and their success in college. His class is not easy, but an A is very achievable if you do whats expected of you. Genuinely, he wants whats best for your future.
Best prof all semester. This class has a lot of work and honor code related stuff, but getting through that it's genuinely interesting and Roblyer is both a great professor to have and a great guy
Best prof I've had. Many people will point out the amount of work he gives and and his strict honor code stuff, but if you get past that, It's difficult not to get an A in this class, and at the least, a B. He has tons of extra credit and easy As which make up for his more difficult tests. He's a really great professor and guy in general.
Prof. Roblyer's knowledgeable in POLS, but 207 is overall just a dry topic. He gives a lot of supplemental assignments which can help your grade if you struggle on exams, as long as you're fine delegating more time to the course. Mandatory attend.-- lecture's tend to be boring. Super nice & very smart, I'd recommend one of his upper lvl courses.
There is way too much work that goes into this class. If you're a freshman it could be helpful, but if you're not it's just annoying. He's a nice guy and you can tell he cares but it's too much. There is a good amount of extra credit though. Also he always wants people to turn themselves into the honor council.
Dr. Robyler cares about his students and makes it easy to get an A! Attendance is mandatory but
Dr. Roblyer is a great prof!! Though this class has TONS of work, he does drop the 2 lowest in each category. Exams are LECTURE HEAVY. Take a lot of notes and DO THE PRACTICE PROBLEMS! Do all the extra credit. GO TO CLASS (Exam questions sometimes ask about examples talked in class). Overall, he's a great guy and lectures were really interesting.
This professor was clear on instructions, but gave too much material to sort through for exams. He also added a lot of fluff to lectures and it was hard to determine what he felt was important for the exams.
This class is kind of annoying with all the work that he requires, but it's honestly not too bad. He offers a ton of extra credit towards the end of the class that can bring you up by 5 points to your actual grade. The tests are pretty tricky, but as long as you do the practice problems you give you should be fine. He is one of the sweetest profs!!
Very very nice guy who invited students to his house for Thanksgiving if they didn't have anywhere to go. Tons of extra credit opportunities. Just pay attention in lectures and put a bit of effort and you'll be totally fine.
Great professor! Had engaging lectures and really cared about his students. Very easy A if you attend his lectures and do the assignments on time.
He was a great professor, but does have a lot more homework and content than other 207 teachers. He was a good professor, and really cares about his students but is extremely strict about the honor code!!
Really great professor. Only complaint is that he has more work than other POLS professors and harder exams (sometimes questions felt too specific), but out of his five exams only the top three are counted. There's alot of extra credit opportunities. You are allowed to miss ten lectures which is nice, but if you want an A go to as many as possible.
I loved him! He cares so much for his students and you can tell he loves what he teaches. He is extremely accessible outside of class with a ton of zoom hours for questions. He gives a lot of opportunities for extra credit, DO THEM! He outlines things that will be focused on during the exams so pay attention during lectures.
Great guy, I could tell he really cares about his students, and tries his best to connect with as many as he can. The class is very lecture heavy, but not difficult by any means. If you pay attention to the majority of the classes, its an easy A. He also drops 2 of the 5 exams and has a ton of extra credit.
The tests are incredibly difficult. Spend way more time studying than you think you need. The first test is the easiest but still difficult so take advantage of it and cram. This class needs to be near top priority. There is extra credit, USE IT. I somehow got an A, (was expecting a C) but only because I did all the extra credit. Get perfect on HW.
He wants his students to succeed and is caring and passionate about teaching. He gives a bunch of extra credit opportunities and lots of office hour time. His exams are not bad at all if you study with his tips and tricks and he drops 2 out of 5. It is easy to do very well if you follow his directions! You only need 65% attendance for full points.
Great Prof! Attended very little lectures which did affect my grade in the end but he explains topics well and challenges you to think about why you believe what you believe. Would definitely take.
This class was 3 hours but he made it feel like a 7 hour class. Assignments due at 5 and 12 hours in between (2) attempts. Would never in a million years take him again. Very biased towards one political side and made sure we knew. I did well but I was miserable in class.
He gives you all the tools you need to succeed. He also drops quite a lot of your grades. DO THE PRACTICE PROBLEMS, they take a lot of time but will get you a high A on the tests. The course challenges you to think about what is happening in the government.
This class BY FAR the most confusing class I have ever taken. Dr. Roblyer is very word savvy and his lectures are often fast paced and difficult to understand, leading to most of the exam questions being confusing. If it weren't for extra credit at the end of the semester and the multiple lowest exam grade drops I 100% would of failed this course.
Great professor, passionate and very considerate of his students. The information on his lectures is clear and well-structured. Take use of the numerous tools he provides to help you succeed! Although there will be numerous optional practice questions and chapters to study, they are incredible helpful on exam days.
Do the practice problem and required readings before exams! He truly cares and wants you to pass. He gives extra credit at the end of the semester worth 5 points added to your course grade. Attendance is mandatory and worth going for your grade. There are weekly packbacks, and he also drops your 2 lowest test grades and packback grades.
I hate the fact that he has mandatory attendance, the material is very simple and easy to understand on your own, lots of pointless homework assignments, I crammed for his exams 2-3 days before and would get A's not a hard class just keep track of you assignments. Good professor, just boring lectures.
Knowledgeable professor that has an obsession with making impossibly specific questions for his exams to "catch" students he thinks aren't putting enough focus and effort into an already time-intensive class. Obscene amounts of busywork assignments. Spends his lectures on a soapbox about his personal political opinions rather than course material.
Have never had a professor press on academic integrity more in my life. He will add an extra 20 minutes to each assignment just for you to read through the honor system rules and answer questions over it. Very time consuming class that doesn't have difficult criteria, but this professor will make this class highly aggravating.
Class is not too hard but exams are super hard and will affect your grade heavily! Lots of homework & attendance is mandatory.
I loved having Roblyer as a professor!! He was very caring and compassionate. Yes he pushes the honor code, but it does not affect his class overall (literally just don't cheat). Out of the 4 main exams, he will drop the 2 lowest and offers a crap ton of extra credit for the final exam (I needed 42 a for an A). I highly recommend this professor!
Dr Roblyer is a good lecturer and the classes are interesting. He drops the two lowest exams, packbacks, and reality checks and gives a lot of extra credit. The only problem I had with the class is that homework took a long time, and the questions in the exams were very tricky. Canvas was also convoluted and some stuff was hard to find.
Dr. Roblyer provides ample extra credit opportunities that make it easy to get an A in this course. If you study the practice problems, you will do good on all the exams, and with so many exams that he drops, with average effort you can get an A in this course. He is also passionate about what he teaches, and you can see this during his lectures.
Dr. Roblyer is by far one of the greatest professor I have had here at A&M. Some may complain of the difficulty of his tests, but his lectures and study tools well prepare you for them if you put the time in. He drops your lowest two exam grades, and weighs packbacks and reality checks heavily to account for the possibility of low test scores.
There are better options but if you're stuck with him, please know that it is almost impossible to get lower than an A or B as long as you put in some effort. He has many filler assignments but seriously, you will be fine. Go to class, do the MANY extra credit opportunities he gives, and you'll be fine. Very nice guy and accessible out of class!
Genuinely wants you to succeed. Impossible to get less than a B because of all assignments that cushion your grade. Most assignments have multiple retakes. 4 Midterms, drops 2, final is not optional. Holds lots of private zoom and group appointments. Attendance is recorded. Exams are challenging- lots of information about graphs (he loves graphs).
Annoying. This is an introductory freshman course, there is no reason he should take it this serious, its really annoying. There is better options, its not hard, just really annoying.
He's a good professor but get ready to be in the work, and stay on top of the assignment's because it really builds up.
Dr. Roblyer is chill, he has a LOT of extra credit to make up for his annoyingly hard exams. The only hard thing in this class are the tests, often averaging
Roblyer actually cares about his student's success both inside and outside of the classroom. He is on the Aggie Honor Council and takes it VERY seriously. Multiple seniors dropped the class after getting caught cheating and will not graduate. I would take him again. He's a great professor and wants the best for you, even if it's tough love.
Professor Roblyer is a good man who cares about his students. However, this class isn't a blow-off at all. If you miss any grade boost, (packback, simulation or reading quizzes), good luck. Test are super hard and we got blessed with a curve of 20 points. He wants you to pass, but you cant mess up. If you take the reading quizzes, don't switch tabs
Hes a good guy, but dont take his class if you want to enjoy life. Tests are insanely hard, highest class avg was 66 Crazy workload Course structure in canvas is awful, DO NOT take this class if you are dyslexic :) Everything is due at 5pm Insane about honor code You will prob get an A or B, but the stress of the class isnt worth it.
This is the easiest class I have taken at this University. Just be present in every single class, and do your work on time, you're guaranteed an A. People with B's or C's in this course probably skipped class or forgot to do the homework. Sure it's a time commitment, but welcome to college. Some people find the guy himself annoying, but it was fine
Professor Roblyer cares about his students. 207 is a required class for all but he wants you to really learn, this means lots of homework. Lots of extra work so he can drop grades, so not a hard class, but time consuming. Test questions are about things said in lecture so you have to memorize facts not just learn concepts. Not hard but lot of work
Roblyer is so hard why is everyone saying he's a good teacher his lectures are so hard. I legit spend 12 hours studying for his exams. Unhelpful when it comes to grades. He loves the honor code. Beware.
Roblyer is a great person and fountain of knowledge on his subject area. If you are passionate about the topic and want to learn, he is a great professor to take. There is a lot of reading and the exams were very difficult, but it wasn't unmanageable and he dropped one of the two exams. As most other reviewers say, DON'T cheat in his class.
I took him right out of the height of Covid and I genuinely could not listen to his breathing through a mask without hyperventilating. It was terrible lol. I went to the first class and then never again and still got a high B. I usually shoot for all A's but seriously could not stand that brothas breathing rhythms and a B sufficed.
Tests were easy with minimal studying, and he gives ample extra credit and curves heavily. I finished with over a 104 in the class. Welcome to college; if you don't go to class, you won't do well. DO NOT CHEAT. He is on the honor council and will catch you. This isn't high school, and there are serious consequences if you get caught.
Roblyer gives SO much extra credit. 50% of grade is exams. I didn't score above an 85 on one, but I still ended with a 94. Exams are hard if you don't study but make sure you do extra credit and attend class. His lectures were thought provoking even if they were slightly left leaning. He is smart, fair, and big on cheating.
Geniunely a nice guy that wants you to understand the material of the class, I learned a lot! Assignments aren't hard, just time-consuming, and they cushion your grade. Study for the exams and you'll be fine, he has A LOT of extra credit, office hours, and drops your lowest homework and exams. It's easy to get an A, just have a work ethic
This guy will teach you a thing or two, and he has a killer beard which he strokes frequently. I enjoyed his class. It was freaking boring at times, but overall, he makes it thought provoking and occasionally made me say "huh." Go to lecture, pay attention, and do the practice questions and you will do just fine. DON'T CHEAT!!! Just do the work!!!
Roblyer is very forgiving on grades, as he will drop the 2 lowest packbacks, rc's, and tests, but unfortunately the class in my opinion isn't engaging enough, and 4:59 pm deadlines are also annoying. The grading cutoff is 89.5 for an A, which I missed by 0.2 points, and he makes it clear that the cutoff is strict. Overall, do all the work assigned!
Class was so difficult
Do not take this professor. It was so difficult.
He's a challenge to some people. Do not put a foot wrong since he will report and prosecute any major or minor violation to the honor council. If he goes on about one particular graph for more than 10 minutes it'll be on the test.
Getting an A in this class is doable—just set aside a couple of hours each week for the small assignments. I used his study guides on Canvas the night before each exam and always got an A. The one time I didn't, I failed miserably, but he dropped a lot of grades. Don't forget to read the textbook and study the charts in his lecture slides.
even tho i got an A I would never recommend him. he falsely accuses of cheating and loves to screw students. yes he gives extra credit and drops tests but no one is safe from him reporting you to the honor council even if you do NOTHING WRONG!
Personally, I didn't find the class hard. However, the amount of homework in this class was ridiculous in my opinion, especially considering it's core class and not really relevant to my degree plan. I've also heard he has accused numerous people of cheating, so caution. Overall, not horrible, not amazing, but wouldn't reccommend.
DO NOT enroll with this professor. I had perfect class attendance, did all the extra credit work and got an A+. Months after the class he accused me and “dozens of other student” with academic dishonesty. Stay far away from this guy!
Lots of busy work. Kind person but super strict on honor code. He sent out an email accusing dozens of students of cheating on online assignments AFTER CLASSES ENDED and grades were finalized THREE MONTHS AGO. He accuses them based on how quick they finish the assignment and how long it takes them to answer each question. Do not take him.
Always been obsessed with the Honor Code, which is a good thing, until he starts accusing over a hundred students of cheating solely based off the fact that they completed their assignments too quick. Making mass accusations two and a half months after the class ended is insanity. Lectures are fine but just try not to look suspicious whatsoever.
It is some miracle that I was able to make it through this class with absolutely no cheating accusations. Or, maybe it is the fact that I did not use ChatGPT/Chegg on assignments. Roblyer was a great professor who provided plenty of extra credit opportunities. Maybe, if you want to cheat, don't take the class taught by a guy on the Honor Council.
Never met a professor who wanted to help out his students more than Dr. Robyler. You can tell that he genuinely wants his students to succeed. However, his method for catching cheaters creates unnecessary stress for the innocent and may even be inaccurate. Even though he is a great professor I would avoid him because of this.
DONT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. Super easy class, but this dude is strict about the honor code. whether accusing the class of cheating on multiple assignments, to accusing students MONTHS AFTER THE COURSE ENDED of cheating, based on answering questions "too fast." while I wasn't accused, I know people who were, and he didn't even apologize. Avoid him.
His class really isn't bad and he's not a bad lecturer. he seems to really care about his students.. a little too much at times. He is very obsessed with the honor code and is on the council. When doing assignments be slow and attentive because you may be suspected of cheating if you go too fast. Just be careful and you're fine!
The professor suspected widespread cheating and framed the whole class without evidence. We had to book Zoom interviews, guilty until proven innocent. After explaining my process, he still doubted me over one assignment worth 0.75%. Only after a second interview did he clear me. Class is easy; the hardest part is dealing with false accusations.
I took this class in Fall 2024 but decided to write a review now. He is very annoying and he is always talking about the honor code. It is not worth the risk; he could give you a F* and derail your college life. Also, he gives a lot of homework like reality checks, and the exams are pretty difficult (like students get C and D on average).
Professor Roblyer really cares about his students. Attendance is semi mandatory, he is very sympathetic to students situations. He also drops a lot of assignments and even some tests. Many people complain that he is harsh about the Aggie Honor Code, which is true. Just don't cheat and you'll be fine. I recommend him.
Exams every week, questions on the test cover NOTHING from class. What should be an Easy A at any school in the world turns into Aerospace Engineering solely because of Robyler.
Dr. Roblyer is a great professor for POLS. Despite being difficult, he does a great job making sure everyone understands the material. He provides loads of extra credit, making it easy to do well. I also appreciate that he is not afraid to use the Honor Council, making the class fair for those who actually put in effort to learn/study the material.
Gives tons of busy work for an entry level core class. Accuses like a quarter of the class of cheating each semester creating unnecessary extra stress on students.
if you're able to take anyone else, please do it. accuses a bunch of students for cheating.
Has a strange obsession with the honor code. The class is pretty easy if you just take time to study the lecture slides and especially the practice problems. It's just annoying how frequently he mentions the honor code. Overall, though, he's sweet and seems to genuinely care about the students.
I took him Spring 2025 & about 150 students cheated on the homework; that's probably why he mentions it a lot in his current class. Dr. Roblyer is someone who was truly born to teach. He is incredibly passionate about his subject area, he values students as individuals, and believes being here is a privilege. He expects you to work HARD for an A.
Extremely strict about the honor code, but other than great guy. Clearly cares about his students and keeps them well-informed on everything. Coursework is basically free 100s all around long as you do them properly, and exams are also manageable if you use all the practice/review material he provides. Also gives plenty of extra credit options.
Do not take his class. Beware he is obsessed with cheating to such a degree he has hundreds of victims. Probably in the thousands at this point and the administration goes along with him. He will certainly be sued for wrongful accusations at some point costing $ money to TAMU. Provost is investigating the whole HC.
Don't take this class for an easy A. You have to work extremely hard to do well. He's obsessed with the honor code and administered multiple quizzes about it. The exams aren't easy either. All assignments are due at 4:59 PM. He may mean well and be a good guy, but this class is way too much work for something required by the University.
dont do it
Unbearable assignments and amount of work. No matter how much you study, its impossible to get above an 80 because his test consist of the most obscure questions. Do not take this class if you are bad at test taking or multiple choice. You can get an A if you work really hard and are willing to put the work in.
I was worried about him because of all the cheating reviews but he's probably my favorite prof. This guy is genuinely the goat and is super passionate about his class. Lots of homework but its a solid percent of the grade and easy 100's. two of each assignment drops INCLUDING EXAMS, so for one exam I didn't go to class or study (i still passed).
He's passionate and his lectures are entertaining. Definitely learned a lot about our government because of him. Idk why his exams were so hard though and idk why he cared so much about the honor council lol.
Excellent professor. Clearly truly cares about the subject as well as his students. Easy, interesting course with lots of extra credit opportunities. Workload is not too heavy. Practice problems make exams extremely do-able. He's on the honor board, so don't cheat and you'll be fine.
Professor Roblyer had a very okay class for me. Grading is very exam heavy. Just know that if you get a low score on your exams then that will make your course grade lower. All of the other things you are required to complete have a much smaller percentage to your score. He does drop the two lowest grades in each category of your exam though.
Great professor, I took him for POLS 207. The tests are pretty hard, but he curves them and drops the 2 lowest. Gives lots of opportunities for extra credit and to meet outside of class.
literally dont take this course by roblyer. incredibly unhelpful, class is so confusing, and overall the work is so niche when asked about in exams. its not worth it. literally dont do it. try another professor.
If you're trying to take this class for easy credits, ID ADVIZE YOU TO TAKE ANOTHER PROFESSOR! That being said, if you're willing to put the work and effort into this class, Roblyer is a highly compelling teacher and his lectures are very nuanced, exploring the different sides to each side of politics. Reality checks and exams are hella hard though
He is very heavy on the honor code, and will report you. However, he makes his rules very clear at the start of the year, and tells you everything he will report for. Genuinely a professor that cares about his students and their health. Just do the homework and you will be fine.
Says he learned how to write questions in the army. Extremely specific in exam questions, asking tiny details that came up in the lecture Does give a lot of extra credit (up to 5 points in final grade) and I was able to get an A with all 70s on the exam. But still, lots of busy works. If possible find a way to take another professor for this course
I really disliked him, exams are very difficult, a lot of work for a class that is undeserving. Other professors where more lenient with open internet tests. Do not take him if you are in STEM, you will have more work than any other class. He cares about his students, drops the 2 lowest exams but I would try to look for another professor.
Easiest class ever, just dont cheat. He drops 2 tests, so this is literally a half a semester class. Do good on the first two tests and you are done for the year other than the final, but all the other points are free so it really doesn't matter anyway. DO NOT CHEAT though, he glazes the honor code and will die for it.
Plenty of homework for you and the family. Outside of that, it's a really good class and professor. Yes there is a bunch of honor stuff in some homework assignments, but I didn't hear anything about mass emails and the like. You can tell he cares. Really good at communication and takes accountability
Roblyer is a great person, and offers PLENTY of extra credit. Lectures weren't that engaging, but everything you need to know is on the slides. Do the practice problems (and understand), and you'll do great on the exams. Lots of criticism around him, but he's passionate about student health. Do all the extra credit and the final won't be bad.
I came in ready to learn about state and local government, but I left knowing more about the Aggie Honor Code than that. I went through the whole semester on edge because he could suspect you for cheating on anything and you might get an F*. The only upside of the course is he does offer a lot of extra credit. I would not take this class again.
Roblyer's a fantastic lecturer that really cares about his students. His exams can be tough for some, but he has a large amount of resources available to you, and all the extra credit and dropped assignments makes it hard not to get an A in the class. Literally just don't cheat, and put some moderate effort into this class and you'll be fine.
Overall good professor who seems to really care about what he talks about. The class has a good amount of weekly work outside of class (~3 hours) and 4 midterms which is a lot. However, 2 of each type of assignment can be dropped (including midterms) and there's lot of extra credit available.
He really isn't as bad as some say. Great lectures he clearly cares about and very available outside of class. He talks about the honor code a lot but he has a point. He also gives lots of busy work compared to other profs (often completely unrelated to the test) but it can be interesting. He posts tons of content to Canvas which gets confusing.
Exams are very lecture heavy, even questions referencing niche things said in lecture. However, he drops ur 2 lowest exams and gives outside work which are basically guaranteed 100s to boost ur grade when exams go bad. I got mid and low Bs on my exams but still ended with an A because of all the extra credit and outside work.
You're going to hear a lot about Roblyer, but truth is, 1. you aren't supposed to cheat, 2. you will not get investigated if you acted with integrity and honesty Roblyer is a great professor, who is very concerned with Academic Honesty, but putting that aside he teaches a class that gives us real world information rather than pointless facts.
Hardest part of this class are his exams, as they often reference lecture specific topics or statistics from slides. However, two are dropped at the end of the year, which makes this class an easy A as long as you show up. In addition, he provides extra credit toward not only the final but directly toward your final grade. Just don't cheat.
His tests are impossible and the averages for them are all low 70's and sometimes even failing grades. He claims he creates his exam questions using old army techniques to make you learn, but it's bogus. He does not care about his students at all and cares more about the Aggie Honor Code than teaching the class. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS AT ALL COSTS.
Attend lectures and do the lecture's practice problems as he goes through the slides. He'll say attendance isn't required but this is key to doing well on the exams. I got Ds/Cs on exams 1-4 then used this technique and pulled almost an A on exam 5. Other than that, he's a great guy and offers plenty of extra credit, and the other work is free.
Do not take.
Overall the professor seems to be caring towards students, however exams are so difficult, the only way I passed exams with C's was with his practice problem, before them I got D's. Its very important you understand what your learning not just memorize, as his exams are very specific. Workload starts to get heavy near the end of sem. Exams=brutal.
He is a great professor overall, but when compared to other professors who teach the subject, there are much easier A's. Although he gives a ton of extra credit that you don't realize throughout the semester and when you do the math, it is a fairly easy A. All of his exams are very lecture heavy. My advice would be to actually go to class.
Dr. Roblyer is a great professor, and makes it EXTREMELY EASY TO GET AN A. He also offers TONS of extra credit that can literally boost your grade by an entire letter grade. He makes it clear that he cares about his students. He is down to earth for the honor rules, but that should not even be a problem if you put in a reasonable amount of effort.
He was a great professor! Gave lots of busy homework, but they help you boost your grade greatly. Lots of tests, but the two lowest get dropped. He also offers extra credit to your final (the unit learned after exam 4) and to your overall cource grade. Overall it was a manageable class and you shouldn't be scared to take.
Dr. Roblyer is really passionate about what he teaches. I could tell he really wanted us to learn the material, not just for a good test score but to apply to real life. There's a lot of busy work which is helpful if you're bad with exams. He really tries his best to let everyone get an A.
His lectures and teaching style are ok, but it is a lot of information and if you do good studying on your own don't need to attend. A lot of work (homeworks, quizzes, etc..) but also provides extra credit. As long as you're fine dedicating a good chunk of time, take him he's pretty good.
Don't get me wrong, compared to the other 207 proffs, Roblyer is definitely more difficult because of all the extra stuff he makes you do, but if you just work a little harder and do the extra credit you'll be fine and will end with an A. I would say try to take the others, but if you get him it's not the end of the world.
He was really passionate about his subject, he really cares about his students and is very approachable, you can definitely get an A if you put a little of consistent effort. I couldn't imagine a better professor for this subject.
Professor is generally good if you don't make him suspect you of cheating. Lectures are necessary to note down details not on the slides. DO THE PRACTICE PROBLEMS. They're honestly great for the exam and I did well just by binging them the night before. Drops 2/5 exams and other assignments take up a large chunk of the grade so not too stressful.
Dr. Roblyer is one of the more passionate pols teachers at tamu. He makes his expectations very clear at the start of the semester, and it is not a tough class. If you attend the majority of his lectures and complete the weekly reality checks (reading quizzes), there is not much studying required for his exams, and 2 of 5 exams get dropped.
dar (thats how he goes by on email) is a controversial professor but his class is easy. As long as you get > 80 on one exam youre basically guranteed an A. DO HIS EXTRA CREDIT. That will give you an A. As for his cheating stuff i dont really know what will happen this semester (fall 25), but his lectures are boring
if u complain ab him u have to be so entitled pls just drop out
Dar is a great guy, but I can't wrap my head around how stuck up he is with cheating. I never cheated in his class and did well, but I thought it was absurd my performance in his class was significantly better when I never showed up to lecture as opposed to when I did. Good guy easy class, unfortunate circumstances around him.
He's a good prof for this course because you can tell he really care about the things he talks about in lectures. Lectures aren't mandatory but stuff he talks about in lecture will b on the exams and you won't know it unless you were listening in class. He offers a lot of extra credit which helped me out a lot, just be ready to study though!
I had heard the bad reviews of Roblyer but overall his class was fine. The optional attendance of his classes led to complete procrastination and stopped me from attending his classes, but overall it didn't truly affect my grade as I continued to get B's in the class. The extra credit is very important as it can raise your grade from a B to an A.
