super nice. humorous too. grades easy and class is pretty easy. i recommend him
Dylan relates to the students well and is extremely funny. His class is very easy and there are only 3-4 required papers. If you are interested in improving your writing skills, I would not suggest him because he does not focus on helping students develop these skills. He is just happy that you come to class and turn in your work.
crazy easy. doesnt really do a lot of teaching tho. really funny. if u are just looking for an A in the class take him. but if u really wanna learn an be good at this stuff then hes just not for u.
If you come to class and do all of the readings, you will do fine. Some of the readings are difficult, but he is willing to help explain them in class. He's pretty funny and finds a way to incorporate content interesting to the student. I would recommend him.
Nice guy! I don't know if teaching English is really his passion, but he's a fun guy. Classes are a bit repetitive, but if your good in English this guy is an easy A.
Mr. Canter is a great teacher. English 250 is a hard class but he makes the best of it. It's always sunny in Philadelphia? Didn't get to watch it but it ties in with a lot of what we learn. Some of the material can be super boring and dry, and he sometimes assigns readings like his is the only class you take. Overall I had a good experience.
I had Prof. Canter for his Images of Men and Women class. This was an interesting class that he was well versed in. He assigned some difficult readings, but helped with them when needed. I especially enjoyed the video clips that we would watch that were current and pertained to the subject matter of the class. Overall challenging yet rewarding.
Friendly instructor, explains expectations well. Always willing to answer questions.
His class was refreshing after having a horrid English 101 instructor at CSCC. He tells you exactly (in plan English) what he wants in the papers. We had 3 main papers and a final. He made class fun and interesting. I would 100% recommend this instructor.
Show up to class, read the assigned readings, and write your papers in time for peer review and you'll do well in this class.
this guy is cool as hell. funny guy, nice guy, good teacher. class is super fun. you watch two movies. and he grades easy. but doesnt just give you an A you still have to write good papers, but his outlines are on point. go to class, read his readings. and put a little effort into your papers and youll for sure get an A
made class fun and interesting. pretty relaxed about late papers.
Great topic. He really has fun with his class on subjects. Keep an open mind walking through his doors. Do your work go to class. You'll pass. Really simple to do. Best English teacher ever! Hot too.
AWESOME teacher. would deff recommend. he isnt a hard grader but knows your levels so dont slack in his class. just keep it real with him and he will do the same.
Mr. Canter was a good teacher and made class interesting. If you attend class, participate in discussion, do the reading assignments, and try your best on the papers, you should do well in this class.
Prof Canter is amazing! He's funny as heck, keeps the class entertaining. He always says I can't write the papers for you, I just give you the tools to write a great paper. He does this very well. I liked his class so much I'm taking him next quarter. Attend every class, participate, you MUST write the papers & do the readings. Final wasn't too bad
Excellent Instructor! I highly recommend him. I took his ENG-101 and 102 classes. He is very helpful and he makes it so that you understand. You must do the weekly reading assignments and take notes on the class discussions. He is very big on class participation... He wants his students to successful.
Great prof. Class participation is a must, readings are also a must, but he explains things very well. Enjoyed his class a lot and look forward to taking him next semester.
Very nice teacher wish I would have taken him for English 102. But did not I could not go that day at those times his class was scheduled for. But very great teacher, very picky about grammar I will say and have to turn papers in on turnitin. Over all awesome teacher would recommend this teacher. Even got to watch movie and was part of the final!:)
he is the best teacher a student can get for english im taking him for my 1100 next time he also let you watch movies to in class
Very reasonable instructor with respect to the English department guidelines and requirements. He's approachable, easy to talk to, and I simply enjoyed writing for him and getting his constructive feedback. There are 4 final drafts & 4 rough drafts you are required to write. The final assignment is an assessment of your writings and your progress.
I don't care what english language class you have to take he is the best teacher you will ever find very funny easy laid back teacher I didn't total of 4 papers an a final
Comp I: I really enjoyed taking his class. He really cares about your grade and wants to see you succeed. I did a total of 4 papers. He makes sure to be very clear what he wants. Also he's funny and really laid back. He expects you to attend every day, and turn your work in on time. He also gives example essays to help you out w/ your project.
Helpful instructor, who gives great feedback in office hours. Walk into his class with an open mind, however. The class discusses a lot of social issues, and if you are highly conservative, it may not be the class for you.
I took his class because everyone raved so much about him on here. He's a cool teacher and knows his stuff, I've learned a lot. But he's really not all that friendly and I know there are nicer teachers here so I wish I would have picked a different one.
Mr. Canter is one of Columbus State's finest professors. He's much younger than most teachers so his class is very interactive. He gives very CLEAR instructions and outlines for the papers required to do. He will accept late work if you ask in advance or have a LEGIT excuse. He talks about cool topics and going to class is required but actually fun
Dr. Canter is probably in my top 3 favorite professors at CSCC. Very nice guy and gives intellectually stimulating material to the class. Anything he says you need to do is mandatory, do not think he is just spouting off optional assignments. Attendance is mandatory and you write 6-7 essays in the semester. Not too hard.
Mr. Canter is probably the best English teacher I have had in my whole life. Hes sweet, helpful, and funny! His outlines for the essays are the best! Im taking him next semester as well and I can't wait!
Amazing prof! Keeps class fun, laid back, uses many types of media/book/reading.(never bought the book and used the library's/copied things and did just fine) very open and honors the student's interests with the 4 assignments. You will watch a few movies. Attend and do the work/read - easy A if you try! Absolutely loved him & highly recommend!!
Great guy. Smart, funny, tries to make class fun, not too difficult. Just do the readings and try your best on your papers and you'll do fine! He corrects your rough draft FOR you! so you get good grades on the final draft. Totally would recommend him and Ill be taking him for Comp 2!
Mr. Canter is great, take him if you can. His class is so easy and you will get an A as long as you attend and follow the rubric he provides. He respects you if you attend classes and that is reflected in the grades you receive. Like I said before, take him, you will not be disappointed!
All in all this was a pretty easy class. Mr. Canter is helpful and grades papers fairly. As long as you are putting forth effort and coming to class you will do well. You get to watch a few movies that are current and pertain to your work. A lot of the subject matter we covered I found very interesting. I would definitely recommend him.
Excellent instructors. Gives you directions and explains what he wants to see in your papers. His directions are easy to follow. Need to attend class and labs it is a large portion of your grade.
Gives excellent directions on how he wants the paper done and what he wants to see in your papers. I found him interesting and entertaining as an instructor.
Awesome teacher, very easy final, fair grader. Funny, and in general nice to listen to. Will be taking him again
He was perfect and when i say that " English not my first language " he will help you , face to face or by e-mail , grading was great , come to the class you will get easy A
This is by far the easiest English class I have ever taken. No test, and you get to watch three films that are actually good. Easy A in my opinion.
I took this class my first semester at CSCC and I only missed one day in all 15 weeks. Mr. Canter is the perfect teacher. Fun, Funny, Helpful! He has great taste in readings and videos to learn from. Show up, do the homework, do the reading, write the papers and you will be golden and enjoy yourself doing it!
He is the best Eng teacher. Make sure you submit your assignments on time. 2papers 1000 words, 1 paper two thousand words and 5 minute presentation as your final exam. You can either use power points or youtube video. Being an International student, D. canter is the best Eng teacher I had. My previous ESL teacher were not as help as Mr. Canter.
If you want an A, his class is the way to go!
Prof. Canter's class is not just show up and get an A, nor is it an easy A. He has a clear grading criteria on his syllabus, follow it , be in class, follow his directions and you will walk yourself to an A. He is by far the very best instructor I have ever had. He has a great sense of humor coupled with his interesting topics class seems to fly by
Have things done on time and he will help you with the rest. Easy A and you learn much.
Best comp 2 professor, failed my 1st comp 2 class because had teacher with no clue what he's teaching, but passed with good grade in Mr. Canter's class. Calendar explains what's going in the class, a lot of reading at the beginning, but not much later on. A few movies to watch here and there. Knows what he's teaching and explains it well.
Great class. I've always enjoyed writing classes and this was one of my favorites. He lets you choose what to write about and gives great feedback, plus the movies we watched were great too. He does want his students to participate though, and does group work. Easy class and great professor!
The class is essentially a bunch of essays over the course of the semester. Mr. Canter gives you the freedom to choose what to write about as long as you follow the guidelines. You only need the textbook for the first 2 assignments. Overall, the class is VERY easy.
Attendance /participation is taken seriously. If you are late or leave halfway through he docks you for it. Lots of readings, if the class seems like they didn't read the assignment, he will give homework. I did not think I was going to pass his class but talked to him and worked things out, he's fair. Controversial topics - 4 papers, 1 final.
I throughly enjoyed taking his class. He is very clear on what he wants from you on your papers. He is very good at responding to emails on time as well. Great class. Recommend.
Mr. Canter is the best professor I have taken at CSCC so far. He is funny and tells you exactly what he wants for papers and provides examples as well. You have to attend class and complete reading assignments which are worth 20% of your grades, but he is not too strict. I took him for both ENGL 1100 and ENGL 2367 and would highly recommend!
As long as you write your papers and follow his rubrics (which are literally a section-by-section layout of your essay), you should be fine. He gives you plenty enough time to write them. Professor Canter is very funny and personable. There's a lot of video-watching and group work during lecture. I would recommend anyone take his class.
At first I didn't like Professor Canter but eventually started to warm up to him. Every writing project has a clear rubric and he gives examples to follow. He breaks the projects into steps so your working on it slowly, so you can't just write the whole thing the night before. His classes usually end early.
There are four writing projects and they all have clear grading instructions to pass. He gives examples of each projects and gives you more than enough time to write it. He also separates each project into sections/checkpoints so he can check your work. Make sure you are in class! It counts! Make each deadline and you'll pass.
Great professor and really funny! Highly recommend him.
I love love love love Canter! Took him for ENGL 1100 and 2367, hes very clear about how he wants each paper written if anyone fails his class they did it on purpose, he has a great sense of humor and is very entertaining. My writing has become better. Hes very relatable. Best professor Ive ever had.
Best Teacher Ever. Easy A , I repeat Easy A. He is very funny and nice to his students. Very cool dude in general. Will definitely recommend him for Comp 1 or 2 or any English class
Dylan is a really great guy. He gives great feed back on papers. The Female Lit class I took with him was the first time he taught the course but he was really insightful and cared about the readings. Don't think you'll pass with out buying the book like a couple scrubs did. Take the course.
Very nice. He was always more than willing to help you outside class. Dylan challenged me and definitely made me a better research writer. He recognizes achieving students and he gives great feedback.
Canter is the best teacher ever I have met, I recommend his class. He is so kind and always close to his students. His explanation is very clear and he shows that in good examples. pick him to be your instructor, and you will never regret. Canter can feel the others to avoid them from any embarrassing especially when we work in a group. I like
He is one of the best teachers in cscc, prof canter is such a caring person, fair grader, he treats all his students equally.
His class is not that tough but getting a good grade is not very easy in his class. He will ask you to put your papers on turnitin. You cannot skip class. He is a funny teacher but I really expected an A.
He made comp two class easy for his students. We didnt have to write the whole paper in a week. He gave us opportunity to submit part by part, which made writing fun. Got to learn more and more every time he reviewed my work. 3 papers and one presentation and perfect grading for attending all his class made it very easy to get a good grade.
Prof. Canter was a great teacher. He is laid back and funny. There was three major writing projects and one "portfolio project" that was at the end (presentation). He allows you to be creative and pick your own things to write on. There is a fair amount of readings he likes to assign and talk about during lecture. It was an easy class to take.
I was unfortunate enough to be one of his 1st online students. I feel like he gave too much homework in a week than mandated for the classes per credit hour requirement. He is giving out 30 hours of homework for just his class per credit hour. I am only taking two classes and still not keeping up. Ambiguous instructions for projects are not okay.
Shows good grading criteria. Follows the syllabus thoroughly. Not too many homework assignments which was nice. Helps students understand the requirements for writing projects. Showed inspirational movies to learn and be educated from. Interesting professor. Nice class to do well year round. Attendance is mandatory though. Be there.
Professor Canter was a great professor however the class Women in Literature itself is very reading heavy. There are a few papers but there is reading for just about every single class with in class work for each. Beyond this, he shows a couple of films one being Darren Aronofsky's "mother!" so if you at all have problems with intense films beware.
Prof Canter is very laid back and as long as you keep up with the papers you should be good! He splits up each paper into multiple due dates to make sure you are on track. There are sometimes quizzes over the textbook chapter assigned but not too hard. Go to class to get points for the in class work. After every paper you watch a movie in class!
Very nice. Boosted my grade 2% to give me an A.
My issues: Each worksheet is out of 1 point, so if you barley miss anything your grade is effected dramatically. The class is 3 credits and he acts like it is a 6 credit class. The two books we have are 1,000+ pages, this class overall is a waste of time and effort.
Professor Canter is a great instructor. He gives clear instructions for each writing project and is quick to respond to questions. Canter is also a fast grader which is nice and gives helpful feedback on assignments. The only downside of the course is the homework which can be time consuming.
Professor Canter is one of the best in person and online professors in campus! lots of reading and weekly assignments but as long as you do them, ask questions and use office hours, you'll be fine! No, seriously office hours can jump you from B and C to A! he is very helpful
He's a good instructor, but don't think that you get away with having any excuses for make-up work or late work. You won't pass if you don't do weekly assignments and if you don't watch the lectures. Pretty simple and straightforward, but not an empathetic person at all. If you're dealing with life issues or tech problems, don't take this class.
I do not recommend anyone take this class he is the worst teacher I ever met in my life he is not caring or empathetic at all. His grading is ridiculous, you could miss a semi colon and hell take 10 points off out of 100.
Professor Canter is awesome! I thought going into an English class was going to be tough and rough (been a few years)! He was awesome though, willing to help in all avenues. He can be a tough grader, but he sets you up for success. Use every option available to you and you won't fail. If something comes up and you can't show, let him know ASAP!
Class has weekly assignments that go with the readings, as long as you read, do your assignments and go to office hours you will for sure pass. You have to put in the effort but this class is very easy. GO TO OFFICE HOURS IF NEEDED! He is very helpful as long as you are upfront about what you are confused about. This was women in literature course.
Prof Canter, as a person, was fine. It was the actual course-load that I found to be RIDICULOUS. The weekly assignments are unnecessarily extensive to say the least. He is a ruthless grader. Unless you are a lit/writing major who actually has an interest in the subject + desire to complete the heavy, heavy work load - STAY FAR AWAY!!!!!
I can agree with some of these ratings about a large workload, but really if you set time away for this class each week its not bad. As long as you follow directions, you should be fine. He does not give a ton of feedback, but tells you what you need to fix/ do better.
I loved Professor Canter, the course material was easy to grab, but the textbook is definitely a necessity. The midterm, papers, and final make up a big chunk of your grade so it's important to do well on those. Grading is straightforward and follows typical MLA format. Open book midterm/final and opportunities to revise papers.
I had no problems with this professor, and he was great! As long as you work and try hard, you will be fine. I have noticed he only grades poorly if you put in little to no effort. Not a ton of work to do, but he does take quite a bit of time to grade but will accommodate because of this which was nice.
I took an online-only course with Dylan Canter. There was 1 weekly assignment, either a homework or discussion board. Usually the assignment is at least a page of writing. There are two papers around 2250 words each, or about 6-7 pages. The midterm and final exam are both super easy if you read the materials, plus they are open book. 10/10.
Canter is great. He gives video feedback on essays and grades fairly easy. I didn't love that the entire class was only out of 100 points, but he always gave feedback and will give full credit as long as you put in your best effort. If you're an english major like me, you'll pass with flying colors. Textbooks were expensive too but you need them.
He was an okay professor but gives you a low grade over the littlest things. I would not have this Professor again
Professor Canter was fine as a teacher. The web course consisted of 4 major papers and a couple weekly assignments. However, he is a strict grader and there is no room for experimentation in his papers - you must follow his outlines to the dot or he may deduct points. This was the only issue I had within the course.
will kick you out of the class if you miss a weeks worth of assignments. doesn't put in grades but puts in zeros as soon as it's time. no late work accepted for any reason. don't take this class if you health issues. worst prof i have ever had.
He listens and empathizes with students.
The smallest mistakes result in him being quite rude. If there is a kind way to say something, he makes sure he says it rude instead. Will threaten to take off more points if you make the same mistake twice (doesn't matter if you've emailed him asking for help).
Professor Canter was an okay professor. He responds to emails within a reasonable time, and he provides detailed feedback. However, with the feedback, sometimes it can be harsh. Also, there are only so many points available in the course, so if you mess up on anything on an assignment, your grade gets affected heavily.
He overall wasn't a bad teacher, just has very strict grading tendencies. I think the communication could've been better in terms of his grading style and some other things. Most his grading only went up to 3, meaning if you did bad on one or 2 assignments your entire grade is thrown off.
I personally loved the content in this class and the structure. Defiently only take if you love to read and write because it sounds like he's a strict grader. I only had two other classes so I was able to be very thorough on all the assignments and get an A on everything. There's hw each week on readings, two 1750 word papers, and two exams.
His weekly discussions are completely irrelevant to the course. Overall, I do not know how he has such high ratings on here, but I do not recommend taking his class. I got my essay proofread by another english professor and at the writing center and was told it was perfect. Canter gave me a C on it. Don't recommend him at all. Hope this helps!
He gives amazing feedback on essays and homework and all of the assignments prepare you for the essays and projects. He was also very understanding about any problems that came up! Very nice, chill professor.
Very little learning is done in the class. I learned zero new writting skills becuase that was never a focus within the class. The entire semester was filled with discussion boards about COMPLETELEY UNRELATED TOPICS. With reading from less than questionable sources. Most pieces had some political nature with less than ambiguous bias.
3 writing projects and a short presentation at the end of semester. Longest essay is 2000 words minimum. I found the essay prompts to be engaging and open to many possibilities. He is a strict grader but lays out the guidelines and criteria clearly. Allows for revisions to get your grade up if necessary. Group discussions are fun and interesting.
I've had him for ENG. He isn't a good teacher. Few people might say he is a good teacher, but it's not true. HE NEVER GRADES ON TIME. HE NEVER READS THE WORK, ONLY USES AI* TO CHECK STUFF. HE ALSO SEES THE MESSAGE BUT ONLY REPLIES IF HE LIKES IT, OR ELSE NOTHING. HE NEVER WANTS US TO USE COLLEGE LEVEL WRITING,ONLY EASY WRITING. SUCH STUPIDITY.
Very clear requirements on all the papers and easy grading. He gives good feedback before the final submission, and he offers a revision draft submission to bring up your grade if you did badly on the final draft. However, discussion boards didn't help much with the writing and were mostly busywork.
There are 2 writing projects which were not bad to do but I feel like you are kinda crunched on time to do them. You have weekly discussion and worksheets which are fairly easy with reading to go along with those. Reading is sometimes a lot but not terrible. He is a very very nice grader in my opinion especially on writing projects
Busy work, but easy to do. Clear grading scale. You can do well if you put in the effort and at least try. Takes a while to grade but will push due dates back when needed. Online student.
