Taking a class with this professor is just like a nightmare. Math 225 is a high level math which is very hard and complecated to understand. Prof. Carta make it worse. He never answer any question and he only copy his notes on the black board. I can't say anything about his grade b'coz I droped his class. But my honest opinion is DO NOT TAKE HIM.
Do not take Professor Carta-Gerardino. He is the worse professor at York College.
My advice is not to take this professor for any math course. He is the most worse professor at York College. He just start his job at York from Fall 2008.
Do not take this young professor (may be 27 or 28 years old) for any math class at York College. He is horrible. He teaches nothing, only read his note and think student should have these knowledge.
Very good command of subject and very willing to help and is helpful.
Eventhough I drop/withdrew from the class, the 12/22/08 comments must have been with the only one or two students who knew the subject. He is to fast trying to get all the chapters and its section and no base understanding is given, I would not take him for any subject, never.
I had Prof. Carta in the Fall term of '08 for Precalculus he is a remarkable teacher. He drops your lowest grade in the class and is willing to explain any topic related to course matter at any time during the class, if he is your Prof for Pre.Cal read the book and practice...its that crucial.
I am quite surprised about the comments I read here. I am currently enrolled in Prof. Carta's class and all I have to write are good things about him. He is extremely smart, super organized and clear. Plus, he is a very nice person. Definitely one of the best professors at York. I highly recommend him! Take 225 with him!
I just drop his class today. He is horrible. NEVER TAKE HIS CLASS. He does not want to explain anything in class. He wants you to see him in the office hours. My grading for him is 1 out of 10.
Yo! This prof is da man. He's super nice and approachable. And he's always willing to help everyone to understand. Super encouraging. I'll take any class he's teaching, anytime.
Dr. Carta-Gerardino is one of those professors who are an inspiration. I'm also enrolled in his Math 489 class, & believe me, if he was teaching another one of my classes, I'd be taking it with him. He's incredibly smart & comes very prepared to class. His lectures are super organized & he's always available to help you. He's super approachable!
This prof. is not good at all. He is very hard. He is not friendly. The way he teaches makes the topics more harder. When i read the book it was easier than his lecture. I just don't understand how some student like this prof.
Yo...this is de best prof. ever...Always helpful n clear...I got 98 in his first test because it was not dat hard... so, for Math 121, just take him without thinking of anything.
I was going through some personal issues and he was not understanding. He gives good notes but at the speed of light. If it's not your major I do not think you should take him.
He is the best math professor at York college, I would take any class he is teaching. He is friendly and approachable. You can always email him if you have anything. They should have more professors like him at York college and not people like Sunmonu. I wish I had taken Math 122 with him instead of Sunmonu
he is the best professor at York college and is really friendly, will help you out with anything!! i will blindly take any class he is teaching, he is the only good professor in the CS and MATH dept!
Best professor at York. Period. I am now taking MATH 122 (Calc2) and I am so happy I took MATH 121 (Calc1) with him. I realize now that I did learn a lot, while my classmates who took Calc1 with other professors learned NOTHING. I am always so proud to say I took CALC with him and that I REALLY LEARNED. I wish he was teaching all my other courses.
There maybe students that find this professor easy, but in my case, with math not being my best subject, he doesn't take into consideration of those who try to pass. I have done the best I can do to pass this class, and my attendence had been 100%. I even tried to participate knowing i was wrong...There is so much to say but I wasn't satisfied.
He is so hot :)
Very hard professor and a bad grader. He will literally fail the entire class if he has to.
Wow. Now that the semester is over I can seriously say that Dr. Carta is the best professor ever. He is incredibly organized and super smart. If you are looking for a fantastic professor who will REALLY teach you, take (any) math class with him. He is very, very fair: work hard and you will get a good grade; slack off and you will fail.
I had Dr. Carta for Discrete Mathematical Structures and a highly recommend it. From the first day it is clear that he knows this subject very well! The class is super interesting as well! Prof. Carta inspired me to become a math major and I am looking forward to taking other courses with him. Highly recommended!
This professor rocks my world. He is so incredibly smart. His class is honestly one of the most interesting ones I have ever been enrolled in. I feel that every time I leave the classroom I am slightly smarter than when I came in. Plus, Dr. Carta is such a wonderful person. A bit shy, but really nice.
Professor Carta is truly one of the best professors I have ever had. It is so refreshing to have a professor that treats students like adults. He has none of that nonsense of going slowly because some people are not doing their work. His class goes into detail and he gets to teach really interesting and complicated stuff. REALLY GREAT!
This is the second class I am taking with Professor Carta and, if I could, I would take every class with him. He is extremely smart and so great at explaining. He also challenges his students a lot and makes the class so interesting. He makes you work very hard, but it is extremely rewarding, because you get to cover everything you should!
Dr. Carta is the kind of professor who constantly gives advice to his students; every week he has so much to share with us, always motivating us to do our best. He has mentored me & other students, helping us throughout the semester with challenging problems and special projects. Several of us are now thinking of graduate school because of him!
Wow this is one of the best professors at York! Really thorough and is always willing and happy to explain. You'll be amazed at how much you learn! He's also very inspiring to his students and will encourage you alot! excellent professor :)
Professor Carta is, and will always be, one of those professors that inspires you. Because of Prof. Carta I decided to change my major to math, and I really hope one day I can be as good as he is. Because the one thing that distinguishes him is that you can see he really loves what he teaches!
Dr. Carta is the one to take for Calculus 1. I have taken this class before, and I cannot believe the change it made to take it with him. I have never had a professor so concerned with my knowledge and understanding. I feel that we really got to cover all the main topics and even had time to discuss more advanced/challenging problems. Recommended!
Prof. Carta is really one of the best professors I have ever met. His lectures are so clear; it is obvious that he dedicates a lot of time to present a great lecture in class. I feel I have learned so much every time I leave this class. :)
By far one of the best professors I have had. Completely agree with the previous comments. He is extremely organized and always provides amazing explanations. Coming to class is great because you leave with such a clear understanding. He is amazing.
I don't know about the other ratings, but I find this professor very hard. His lectures are okay, but very confusing and unclear to me and his exams are hard. He hardly gives any extra credit. If you aren't so good in math nor don't have the time in the world to dedicate to it. Don't take this professor.
An awesome professor
This professor rocked my world. I am still thinking about his last lecture, where he summarized some of the most interesting theorems/ideas about logic. He. Blew. My. Mind. If you are looking to be challenged and learn a lot, take a class with Prof. Carta. I wish he was teaching my other classes!
He knows what he is talking about. However you MUST have strong knowledge of basic algebra, geometry, precalculus because he will not go into little details. His focus is mostly on you being able to understand the concepts. Otherwise he is pretty good. I would probably take him again.
He is one of the best professors in york college.i just love the way he taught. he made Calculus extremely interesting and easy for me.
Please dont take him. He writes alot on the board so the student does not have time to understand what he is teaching.
He is great. Final exam was very similar to what we did in class. I sent him an email regarding a curve, and he listened to what I had to say. He is very nice. You should take him. Also dresses up very nice!
I took Calc 2 with him last semester and I'm still impressed how much we learned in the class. What I loved the most is that he covers the syllabus entirely and doesn't allow students to slow him down as it happens in other classes. He keeps in mind that we need to learn a lot and makes sure we do. I feel very prepared after taking this class!
word of advice don't take this professor he doesn't curve test grades no extra credit and doesn't care if you get it or not He flies through the class so quick and the words and phrases he uses are confusing not willing to pass anyone unless you pass the tests Grading is unfair and his grading policy sucks. If you are a bad test taker dont take him
CAREFUL when u read comments here, especially negative ones. They're probably written by bad students who are doing poorly on the course. He is an EXCELLENT professor & several of us are doing great on the class! I think that a lot of my classmates have a very poor background in maths & that's why they are failing. It's not the professor's fault!
Professor Carta has command of the subject, however he gives too many homework assignments. Too much weight on test when the bulk of work is in the assignments. He needs to change his grading method. If a student works hard on the homework discretion should be given for student to score better in the overall course.
Great lectures, amazing "control" of the subject, and very helpful. However, he is not the easiest grader.
Awesome Professor learned a lot from his class.
He moves the class at a quick pace. Some points are unclear and difficult to understand but it's calculus, what do you expect? If you have difficulty, show up to office hours. He's a very understanding guy, feel free to talk to him.
Dr Carta is one of the best profs I've had. I also took MATH 121 with him and it was the best decision. I feel so prepared now. Many of my classmates took a crappy Cal 1 class and now they're lost in Cal 2. If I'm doing well in Cal 2 is all because he taught me everything I needed to learn in Cal 1. At the end of the day that's what I'm here for.
Just so you know he graduated from Cornell University (Lol, he's hot looking too). His tests are really easy as long as you study and do his homework. Anyways he's an easy "A", but not an easy grader to those who are lazy. If you don't like taking assignments ones a week, don't take him :D....
He is a good professor. You can notice something special about him. Say what? He is a very organized person. Do your weekly homework online on time and review the lectures before exams, you will get what you deserve.
He is a really nice guy. His test are so easy because he usually recycle the past exams. He gives a lot of hw but it's ok. He is an easy +A. Sometimes he goes fast but always ask if there are any questions.
He isn't a bad professor. If you don't understand something ask and he will explain with no issue. He goes a little fast at times but you can just ask him to repeat himself. Follow the homework, study the pass exams, and don't miss class and you should have a high possibility to pass. Messed up at the beginning but I still passed with a good grade.
he's a good professor just goes fast. If you ask for help, he will help
He's actually a pretty good professor my only problem is that he went waaaaaay too fast for me, especially since this (in my opinion) is a really hard subject with alot of things to remember. Half the time I didnt even know where we were.....I just felt like their was way too much info coming at once, even for college. U just rly hav 2 try hrd..
Dr. Carta is an incredible prof. by me. Great understanding of the subject. He stick to the syllabus. Homework is assigned to be done online, it can be lengthy at times. Also, expect to take notes. His lectures are thorough and he goes over the material step by step to boost understanding. Review old exams as he tend to use the format over agn.
I'm a musician & I approach math like I approach music. You have to work hard & practice if you wanna be good. Don't expect to buy a violin, never play it & miraculously be really good at it. If you wanna come out of the class "playing violin like a master", definitely take him. If you wanna make noise, take someone else. He's the BEST prof. ever.
Might be a great professor if you like getting taught quickly. Being in his class he might just be reiterating what was said in the textbook. Online homework might've been the only useful thing that could boost your grades. In-class work was incredibly hard for no reason; tests reflected barely anything that was taught. PREPARE TO TAKE NOTES!
Dr. Carta was the best professor I took at York. He has extremely clear grading criteria and his lectures are clear. I failed the first test but then he emailed and helps students who were struggling to improve their grades. I only wish he put the PowerPoints up before class not after class.
Worst professor I have ever taken. I have taken 3 other math classes and received A's. Not with this professor. His exams don't really reflect what he teaches. He teaches at the speed of light and doesn't explain well and doesn't answer questions clearly. Gives a load of homework. Doesn't Sends hurtful/ motivation emails. Take another professor!!!
Not a good lecturer. Isn't clear, explain things too fast. Gave students who got 80s and 70s on exams D and F.
Worst math professor. Yes he is easy on the eyes but if you want to pass please do not, I repeat do not take him. I am sure he is a nice guy but for the sake of your GPA please do not take him, except you are stable at math. However, if you aren't a fan of math please do not take him. He moves at the speed of light.
He is the best professor ever
very helpful
Man I worked so hard in this class and he gave me a C, it is not fair at all because I participated and I got a 70 in one test and 85+ in my first two tests also 99% on homework. My bio major career is almost over because of him and he never gave me my final grade which I'm sure I did good on. Dr carta I emailed you 3 times plz answer
People, don't trust some of these ratings! Dr. Carta got so many bad reviews for Math 120 last semester. I was in this class and I can tell you what happened. A bunch of my classmates took his class as a joke and ended up getting bad grades. You can't hold Dr. Carta responsible! You did this to yourselves! He's actually the best professor I've had!
Dropped his class. Not worth ruining your gpa over.
I took Carta for precalculus as well as calculus 1. He taught precalc very well, so I decided to take him for calculus. However, he does not know how to teach calculus. He taught on slides and expected ou to know all the material before class. His exams are very hard. I would not recommend to take him for calculus.
probably the worst professor i've ever had you can't really expect students to learn if all you do is read off the slides. i could easily do that myself. don't take him if you struggle in math. there are better professors out there
Horrible, worse math prof.
I took his class for the first time because of his good reviews. He is in general a good professor. Highly professional and organized. He doesn't discuss anything irrelevant to the topic. His lectures are on ppt which he posts before each class. He gave 11 short quizzes, a midterm and final. Home work is done online. Have to buy $99 code.
Prof. Carta is a really wonderful professor! I tryed taking this class twice before, and I never understood. I like that he's SO organized. He sends you the syllabus and info about the book 1 week before classes start, so you are ready for the semester. I followed his advise: read the book ahead, and use his slides as a summery, and I did great!
I'l just say-GREAT GREAT GREAT. He is clear and precise during class and what he is looking for on exams. Arrive on time and participate. Even if you are wrong he will correct you which helps a whole lot.
Dr. Carta is the best professor ever! I tried taking Calc 1 before w/ another prof but had to drop the class. (That class was a disaster.) What a breath of fresh air Dr. Carta is! He is super organized, super smart and he covers the whole syllabus, so you learn everything you need for Calc 2. I'm now doing really well in Calc 2 thanks to him. :)
If you want an easy A class DONOT TAKE HIM. Don't expect to learn from his lectures only, you have to practice on your own! His powerpoint slides are helpful. He kinda expects you to know basic algebra/trig material so he has a tendency to rush through the lessons. If you're not good at Math, DO NOT take him!
He is not good at explaining the problems just does a few problems on the board and expects you to understand without teaching the background to the theory or problem. so you are stuck with teaching yourselves. taking calc now and my current prof is way better
Doesn't explain the concept of the theories or problems just does the problem on board shows the steps and excepts you to understand. And examples he does in class ba test questions are totally different and extremely hard
So hard to undertand his lectures, doesnt fully explain how he got the asnwers or solved the problem, he just does a few problems from his notepad and excepts you to understand other problems. he does easier problems and gives harder questions on exams. wont recommend
Homeworks barely put a dent to your overall grade, its so hard to understand the concept the way he teaches is by the book, you are better off teaching yourselves cause he is not good at teaching. dont take him unless you want to fail.
Your grade will depend on you. Math is my weakest subject but with hours of studying and reviewing his weekly quizzes I managed to pass the class. He is a fast lecturer, print out and study the power points, Make sure to study his weekly quizzes non-stop. Do the online homework you learn so much from it. He is a very fair grader.
Dr. Carta did his PhD at Cornell. So, he expects a lot from his students, but in return he gives a lot. It is clear that he spends A LOT of time putting together his classes. He has so many examples that really help you understand Calc. I have taken two classes w/ him, and I'm about to take my third one. If I could, I would take every class w/ him!
I've been accepted to my top choice med school! And I'll forever be grateful to Prof Carta, not just for teaching me Calculus, but for inspiring me to work hard and dream big. Prof. Carta was very helpful at office hours, always helped me with a smile, and always had an amazing way to think about these tough Calculus problems! Best Prof I ever had.
Teaching style is awful, his lectures are based on slides with steps already given. Within class he just read from his slides and do a few question on the board. Doesn't give any review sheet or review day for his exams. And he only gives 2 exams and the final along with quizzes, which he only drop one low quiz Test are hard compare to previou test
Great professor. He is always willing to help you which everyone should take advantage. Yes He reads off slides but explains it and if you dont get it ask questions or make him write it on the board. he dont mind, all his quizzes n works help prepare you for tests. Everyone has their own learning style so dnt worry wat other people say.
Thee best! I can't say anything more. Your not gonna find an understanding/good prof. like him. In my opinion he one of the "best thing" that york can have. Most student don't pay attention which is why they do bad. You gotta study and idk why people say his exam hard, it's basically wat he teach. If ur lazy don't take him. Otherwise you should!
He is good looking that I had some difficulty in concentrating. Anyways He is helpful and organized. He can try to make class more engage by writting on board. The Exams are fair and mathxl was a pain since its lengthy but it help give examples.
He is one of the best professor in york college. As he wants to cover everything in the syllabus, he depends more on slides. Rarely writes anything on board. If you are fine with this, just take him!
Amazing professor. So encouraging and helpful. Work hard even if your getting 70s all the hard work will pay off. Amazing. I don't understand why people complain about his teaching styles with slides i mean its better to have all the slides organized on bb rather than taking notes!!! Hes super organized, and has high expectations which is good!!
Ladies, he is cute and dresses nice. But seriously, I would totally recommend him. You gotta work and it will be worth it and you will learn a lot.
It's honestly not a bad class if you are willing to work for your grade. The tests are fairly simple. I don't get why people are blaming Carta. Take advantage of his office hours, READ THE TEXTBOOK/Slides he gives(if you don't understand concept go to YouTube and watch videos), study from the quizzes and homeworks and you'll do fine. Trust me!
I took Cal1 w/ another prof who gave me easy A. When I got to Cal2, I realized I didn't learn anything! I failed Cal2 because my Cal1 prof gave me good grade but didn't teach anything. Then Dr Carta allowed me to take his Cal1 class, and HE ACTUALLY TAUGHT ME! All of Dr Carta's Cal1 students ended up getting A in Cal2! If u want to learn, take him!
No.1 Prof
One of the best professor. I definitely recommend him for math 225.
He is very organized that will make you read the materials before and after class. Like who sends emails to class frequently so that students will be on track. You will have to learn a lot of material and he will be always there to help you. His office hours are like one of your key to success. Example of how professors should be. take him!Great!!!
Dr. Carta is and will always be the professor that good/smart students take. Everyone knows this. He not only helped me learn Discrete Math, but he would also help several of us in the classroom with Calculus 2, Linear Algebra, and Abstract Algebra. He is simply amazing. SO SMART. He is the gold standard and I wish more professors were like him.
Professor Carta is the best math professor! He is very helpful with math problems outside of the class too, he is so sweet when you ask for help. He is always ready with a bigggg smile on his face to help you. His tests are sometimes tricky and hard, so you have to study a lot for it. If you show interest in his class, he becomes so happy!
He was a nice man but his style of teaching was little awkward. mostly slides and worksheets on Friday but he really wasn't engaging. he was very lenient with grading but cal 1 is a very difficult subject, study you will do okay.
Best professor. Have no idea why his rating is 3. If you are his student, you will learn only if you work hard. Unlike other profs, he doesnt give review sheets. But if you go over worksheets and do the hws you will be ok. He is always there to help his students.
perfect
makes you work for your grade.
Not an easy A Brilliant Organized and Fast Paced Helpful and approachable esp during worksheet time HW can be tedious Tests are similar to worksheets and solutions w explantations are posted Extra credit given during tests Read the syllabus Not bad to look at Also I apologize for the no punctuation kept getting errors when posting rr
He is one of the best prof. i have ever taken. He makes you work for your grade. You will learn the actual material. I noticed that most of his student end up having good background when we reach higher CS or math course. strongly recommended!
Carta is a great professor but this isnt an easy A class so you have to be sure to study the worksheets he gives as well as your homework questions to do well on the exams. you dont have to attend class but if you dont you're gonna have to teach yourself the work. also dont bother using the textbook its useless watch youtube videos instead.
He is better than most of the professors at York without a doubt. Since this is an upper level course he does expect you to come prepared. I also took him for Math225. Highly recommended.
One of the best professors at York. Really loved his class. He is an eloquent person, clearly explains everything. He knows how to guide his student. He will make you study hard, but his exams are also easy cause by the time you are taking his exams you will learn everything. He is a magic, thats for sure. I feel lucky having a professor like him.
I wish there were more professors like him. He's very very smart and any questions you have he will answer. He is very understanding and he is easy to understand. He is also hot asf
Honestly the best cs professor I have ever had the pleasure to be apart of his class. The class seems hard to understand when you blindly look at it, but there are a lot of materials online to help you out. I would recommend watching a few videos before his classes so you do not get lost because he does talk a lot, but there is a reason for that.
