great teacher.
The thing I liked most about him was that his teaching became noticeably predictable. I could go into class and know what to expect. He's not the best or easiest math teacher I've ever had (the best math teacher I've ever had retired) but I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him.
This instructor does not follow his syllabus. He is too heavily influenced by some of the students. His grading is unfair. He does not answer questions and he does not help students. The lab tutors are more clear about the subject than this instructor.
Very good teacher!
Very nice
Very hard teacher or maybe it's just that he doesn't know how to explain math. Makes everything a lot harder than it really is. I do not recommend him at all and almost everyone in my class dropped or failed. Goes off on a tangent and doesn't help when needed!
It was a 6 week semester it was ok
The worst teacher I've ever had! He gives quizzes which he didn't teach. Even instructors in lab. asked me, "Who is your instructor?" after I showed them my quizzes.
This professor fails to explain critical concepts of the material, then expects student to have a complete understanding of them by test time. When asked questions, he often does not or cannot answer them. Also, his accent makes it difficult to understand his lectures.
The worst teacher ever...
I can't believe that a very bad instructor is still teaching students. I received F quizzes, but when I went over mistakes with tutors and instructors in lab, I found lots of correct answers! He misgraded my quizzes!!Ahhghh
Is not like the class or course is hard at all but he is so hard you cannot understand anything and he doesn't explain in detail at all. He goes to fast and on his test he puts questions that he doesn't even cover. I had to drop him because i was not gonna get a F and his class had no point to attend for the whole semester.
Tough teacher, but a great one. I really liked his teaching style and how he prepared us for calculus. Easily accessible in his office and always very thorough and helpful there. He posts our grades online, which is a very awesome plus. I recommend him highly.
Well this class went off to a bad start. His tests and quizzes are hard, but that could be on the fact that the book we used contained many difficult problems. I was not too fond of his teaching style. Had to work and study hard for my A. The plus side is he is fairly helpful and does keep updated grades online. Take him as a last option if you can
He tries to be helpful but sometimes explains the history and proofs behind the problem instead of the actual problem. Nice guy and I got and A but definitely had to do a lot of work.
Great guy. Class definitely requires outside class devotion. Class wasn't breezy but worthwild. Very helpful and willing to help comprehend the material. He's truely a math fanatic because he refers to the mathmatic systems of the Incas and Mayans constantly. Funny guy.
Although I love math some times I have a hard time with it, but not with this class. Some times he's difficult and he requires to attend the class--if you don't go to class when he gives handouts he doesn't let you make up if you don't email him--but over all he's a great teacher he's willing to help in his office hours and explains really clear. I
I am a full time student and have a full-time job, life can get pretty stressful at times, yet Mr. Reyes was really understanding! He loves what he teaches, that is really clear. He wants his students to understand the material and HE WILL help you if you have questions. I HIGHLY reccomend this proffesor!
Great teacher. Loves what he does. Very helpful and understanding!
This is a horrible teacher!! He has only taught Calc once and does not know how to teach it! Myself and almost the entire class were in the math center constantly getting tutoring because he does not even teach things he assigns! He will help you if you go to his office but I had to be re-taught almost everything after class! Good guy on a personal
I enjoyed his teaching. He is clean, prepared, he writes legibly and asks if his writing is readable and if the colors are "okay". He always dresses professionally, he speaks clearly, goes at a steady pace, asks if anyone has any questions, tests are like the HW and quizzes, not too many quizzes; overall good teacher.
Nice teacher sometimes hard to understand him he talks too fast and has a mexican accent.Didnt really go over most material learned mine from a SI leader. If you take this class make friends with si instructer!hes willing to help you out of class and go over failed tests for extra points.hes willing 2 help if you try!Do homework!Dont miss Class!
I took Mr. Reyes during the Summer Session. Although it took a while to get used to his accent, he's is a great professor and I highly recommend him. He posts grades up online so you can keep track of your grade after every assignment. His class is not difficult, you just need to pay attention and ask questions if you do not understand. :D
Extremel hard class. But he make it simple for you to digest. If you want to learn you must take him. I promise that he is one of the best math professor at RCC. I only hate mathematica !
Awsome professor. His exams are difficult unless you study. He is not as hard as other professor. He speaks well and explain very clear.
I took his class in the Fall09 for Math-10 Pre-Calculus. If you do your HW, do the test reviews, & study you will do fine in this class.
He's a great prof! Explains everything clearly, and provides steps to every math equation. Math is difficult for me and I succeeded and received a B! Highly recommended.
He is a good professor. If you pay attention in class and do the homework, you will most likely pass the class. He is also very helpful if you come to his office hours.
I've taken Mr. Reyes twice for math, and I have always done well. He demonstrates and explains very well. When ever I needed help, he was always there to explain it. He never turned me away or made me feel stupid. I hate math so this tells you a lot about him. He usually gives you all the odd problems, and his test are easy if you study.
Best math teacher I have ever taken.
easy to understand, if you do all the work you can easily get an A
pretty easy... he has kind of an accent so you gotta pay attention, but tests are super easy..
This teacher is a guarantte pass if you do all of HW and do ok on the tests. The test are not that hard. Most of the test problems comes from his study guides, and his notes. If you are having trouble with understanding the work go to your SI leader or go to Mr. Reyes they will do their best to help you get the best possible grade.
Reyes was one of the best math professors I've taken. He is funny and helpful, but is easily misunderstood about important dates and deadlines. Will give students the time they need if homework assignments are long. He curves test grades when necessary and just wants to see students learn and pass the class.
I would definetly recomend this profesor he's an easy professor the only thing is that like in everyother class math you have to do the hw. People that say he's hard is probably because they're lazy and don't want to do the work required.Do the hw and study a lil and you'll pass. I got an A- because I was kind of lazy with hw.
Good humored, great at making the subject clear for people who aren't normally excellent math students. hadnt gotten anything above a D in math since 7th grade, and I got an A. There is a lot of homework, but he makes it easy. Take it in the summer, so you dont have to waste your time on the hideous subject.
This teacher wants you to succeed but has a horrible grading system. Homework is worth a little % of your Test grades are what really count! I did all my homework and got C's on tests after studying really hard. Ended up with a D in the class. Studying more average and doing all the homework is the only way to pass! & Reyes gets really but-hurt if
he's not hard. if u do homework, u will be fine. he's very nice, too. by the way, anyone knows who the fall 09 SI session tutor for Mr.Reyes's class is?
I definitely recommend. He's not strict and every time I came into his class I felt relaxed and not afraid to participate. He is also very funny.
Great professor! Highly recommend this teacher even if you arnt good at math, you still have a chance of getting an A...Do the homework!!
Honestly Ernesto reyes Succcks! He makes things harder than what they really are. He likes to go the extra long way around an equation when there are shorter methods to solving them. I recommend nobody takes him for n e math class. Absolutely S U C K S !!!
Worst teacher ever. He honestly needs to find a new profession because his teaching methods suck he doesn't know how to teach. I'm wasting my MONEY and TIME he needs to be fired because it's not right to fail a class for trying to learn his complicated way...
He is kind and patient. if you ask him some questions, he will explain them to you over and over again until you get it. Also, he is an easy pro. His tests are not hard and he never gives you too much homework!
The two persons below who said Reyes is a bad teacher, they should have gone to class just to talk and disturb the class. Reyes's class is not that hard. He gives you practice tests before taking the real which are very similar. In addition, he grades very fair. Take him, you will do fine if you do the homework and the practice tests.
I heard good things about Mr. Reyes but so disappointed. I got straight A's in algebra but bc I took all online prior to his class he said I only know how to copy not learn. Duh math is copying. He lectures w his back to the class so the explanations r not clear. If u don't understand lecture he says he can't go back and u should go to Math lab....
OK I HAVE TO BE HONEST ABOUT HIM. HES NOT HELPFUL, PLS MAKE USE OF THE MATH LAB, HE RARELY GOES THROUGH DIFFICULT EXAMPLES FROM THE BOOK. AND HIS TEACHING METHOD ISNT CLEAR ENOUGH. HE NEVER GOES THROUGH PROBLEMS FROM THE HOMEWORKS. ALTHOUGH HE GIVES U A PRACTICE TEST BEFORE EACH TESTS. BUT STILL I DONT RECOMMEND HIM. =(
Reyes is a good prof and tries to be clear with the things covered in lecture. I am a terrible test taker, [esp with math] but I did all of the hw and the test reviews and did decent on the quizzes and passed with a C. Hw is a huge percentage of your grade. DO THE HW! Do the work, pay attention in lecture, and you will pass.
He is the best Math Professor I have ever had!He is very helpful and is always willing to explain the problems you don't understand. Sometimes he may not be 100% clear, but he always gives us test reviews which make it almost impossible not to pass with an A if you do the hw and the reviews. I learned allot and only like math because of him.
I bet most of the bad comments are from lazy students. I am not a math wiz and loved Reyes' class!! You just have to do what he says, "come to class with an open mind." It's true folks, just go to class willing to learn and you'll ace the class, but do your work!
I don't know why all the lower math classes are complaining; His calculus was challenging but he is a good teacher. He will explain to you if you do not understand any problems. Also, he shows all the steps in an equation so it helps you big time when you go back to the problem. Just don't be lazy!
Reyes is 1 of the best math professors. If you can do the HW & test reviews it?s hard to believe that U can?t get an ?A?.He always makes sure to answer all the questions students have be4 he moves on to the next section. If U can read the section/s before the class it makes it easier. Also, he is always there 4 the student what more can you ask FOR?
He teaches straight out of the book and I really disliked his tests. He would say one thing and do another. I don't know if it was a bad semester but I don't want to take his class again. He assumes you know certain things about the lower math... If you need a little more help from a teacher I recommend looking at others first.
He's one of the best math professors. his class is easy to understand and overall every interesting. As well he always answers questions at any time. this is definitely an easy pass course if you follow him step by step, and do all the homeworks carefully.
He is the EASIEST math teacher you can find at RIV. Super chill, super easy. But YOU JUST CAN'T EXPECT TO PASS WITHOUT LEARNING. I hardly attended his class, nor bought the text book. I mostly just listen to his lectures and photocopy down the hw problems then do it along with his lectures. HIs class is an easy A. :)
He is a awesome guy.
His Calculus class is not hard if you pay attention and do your homework. He doesn't mind helping you at all if you have any questions! Nice guy and overall pretty interesting class.
His class was very well taught ,I recommend this professor.
Although I easily received an A in his class, he is such a horrible professor. His tests are WAY harder than his examples and homework problems. I basically taught myself. He tries to trick you a lot on the test. If you aren't very good at math, DONT TAKE HIM!
He is alright. His test are hard. You have to keep up on the homework, it will save you in the end and make all the difference. Just go to the math lab, thats what I did and got a B. Not an easy class.
Reyes is a great professor, but the material is hard to grasp. Tests/quizzes are straight-forward and not that tricky. He is not harsh grader like some other math professors are. The best part about professor Reyes is that he is extremely helpful. Homework will save your life. I got a B only because I got lazy at the end.
Very nice.always glad to help.
He is a nice and chill teacher but that doesn't mean the class isnt hard. I didnt like some of his ways of teaching but thats me. His tests are a tad on the hard side but ok if you do the work. You need a GOOD understanding of previous math for this to make any sense. I just think calculus is one of those courses that I don't understand as easy.
Mr.Reyes is very nice and very approachable. You wont pass this class if you don't do homework which is beneficial anyway because quiz/test questions stem from hw. They also come straight from notes/lecture so take good notes, attendance is crucial! Strongly recommend for anyone who isn't strong with math.Taking him for college alg!
He is not good at teaching, spends too much time on proving theorems instead of applying them. Only does a few examples per section. Isnt sure of himself sometimes in what he says. He comes 10mins late to an hour class. Tests are fine if you do the homework. I was lucky to get an A because i had an idea about calculus previously.
He's okay, overall. His lectures often lack focus and he talks about theory a lot. His tests are challenging but he did curve the tests a good amount to help the class out. His final was surprisingly difficult. I don't recommend him if your math (especially algebra) skills aren't good.
Really good professor. The course is somewhat difficult however; if you take good notes and pay attention to his lectures and the examples he does on the board you should be fine. Homework is important and helps with test which are semi difficult if you don't study. Not a hard course just takes dedication. Trust me I don't like math and I got a B.
If you take notes and study just like for every other class you will have no problem getting an A. Make sure to do ALL of the HW. It helps out a lot. He is always willing to help outside of class. Has a sense of humor. You'll need the book to do HW and make sure to pay attention to your notes and the examples he gives in class you'll see them again
a very good teacher. Crystal clear in explanations. teaches math unlike any professor I've ever had. MUST PAY ATTENTION. tests are just like the study guides. enjoyed his class thoroughly.
Currently taking MAT-35 with Reyes and all I have to say is that I highly recommend this teacher to everyone. He is very helpful and makes sure you understand the concept of each chapter before each test. The tests are exactly what's on the study guide. Plus he mainly lectures a lot in order to cover most details.
Not a good professor. Goes extremely fast during lecture and try's to cover a large portion of the chapters in 10 min. Makes way to many mistakes. His test are difficult, and they do not correlate with the homework or lectures. He gives study guides but its pointless because they're irrelevant to the tests. Your going to teach yourself.
Great Professor! Best Math Professor RCC has to offer.
Homework does matter, if you are not a homework person, don't take him!! His tests are tough, but if you do his review for several time and do your homework. It will be fine, because he adjusts the test score EVERY TIME. Also, you have to do the presentation, you can present a math question from your homework, review or anything.
Best math professor I have had at RCC. Reyes is an awesome teacher. He is a nice guy and willing to help. The class itself is difficult, obviously! However, it is bearable and doable because of Reyes. His tests are hard but the questions are from the textbook and he curves. Would take him again.
Professor Reyes is the bees knees but his reviews for the tests sometimes don't coincide. He is late for class but is lenient. Do your homework. Or else
very passionate about teaching math and you can tell he enjoys it. really nice guy and easy to talk to. as far as his class goes, LOTS of homework questions he does not cover in class, he gives test study guides that help a lot but they all have LOTS of typos which will drive you crazy. tests are hard but he curves based on how the class did
I've had him twice, but this last time was the hardest. He's clear and sometimes it can be hard to keep up with him. Test are somewhat difficult, but if you study and do the homework, you'll do fine. Asking a lot of questions when you don't understand is key. Also his homework is mandatory and essential to doing amazing in his tests.
I took him during the summer (which may have not been the best choice on my part)and he tried his best to help us when we needed it. My first math class in college and he made things clear, and when he didn't, you could ask him to explain more on whatever we were doing and he'd be happy to help. He's pretty funny too. BUT THERE WILL BE HW.
This was my second time taking math 35 after failing the last semester with a Hybrid class. I HATE math. But Professor Reyes really made it bearable. The final grade also replaces lowest test grade. If you do your homework and show up to class everyday, Easy Pass. I got a High B .
Mr. Reyes is the best math teacher! I took this class during the summer and it was hard! You definitely work for the grade you want. He does drop your lowest test score and replaces it with the final, IF you do all your homework. Mr. Reyes goes out of his way to help you if you do not understand the material. Study, Study, Study!
I took his class for summer semester. Personally, I dislike his class and his teachings. The class covered 3-4 chapters in one day, and the lectures, assignments, and homework were rushed. He as a professor wasn't so great. He expected you to know the material and rushed the lesson. And, I took tutoring after his class for extra help.
im ok in math but this teach WOW :(
I really like Prof Reyes. He is clear in his teaching style. If you have questions just ask. He's really helpful and wants his students to learn.
I took a winter class so it went fast, that is not Reyes fault, that's just the course. He does offer a lot of help, he reviews tests, and will do 1 on 1 help if needed. He really does want you to learn. Do the homework and the test reviews and you will pass.
He did warn us about how compressed summer courses were but I honestly learned much more in the SI classes, than with the professor. He expects you to know the lesson before you come into class so read ahead or you'll get lost easily. Very tough on homework and his tests are much harder than problems in the book. Be prepared to STUDY and lose sleep
Professor Reyes is very passionate about math so he expects a lot from his students. He gives a lot of homework, you definitely need the book. You have to really work hard for your grade. His study guides are nothing like his exams. His grading is okay he isn't really clear on what he wants. He's a good professor but I wouldn't take him again.
Is not a clear professor. He tries to make things simple by not doing the "elementary math" and not explaining where numbers come from. He gives so much homework so you need the book and lectures he goes over in class don't even come close to the homework. You basically have to teach yourself. Reviews are way harder than the actual test.
He is a really good teacher. If u don't understand anythin go to his office. If u will do your homework you will pass with an easy A.
Dr. Reyes is a great teacher. This is the first time i ever like math and i take math as a challenge. Dr. Reyes is very clear and he will answer any question that will be asked. it is very easy access this teacher out of class his office hours are clear. He is a very easy grader but his tests are sometimes hard. do homeworks. do test reviews.
He does not know how to explain and has unrealistic expectations that doesn't even follow through. There were a couple of times were I asked him a question and he would shove it to the side and say it's a problem I should already know how to do. And this would be problems that are in later chapters!! tests are irreverent to the homework assignments
This guy's a true lad before being the "Doctor." You can approach him with any questions that you have and he'll give you an answer. You'll get lot of homework but you'll get used to it. The way he puts students in groups other than letting us choose our own group isn't the best but besides that, you'll love him
Gives homework everyday but it helps. Office hours are a good idea. Easy A if you do both and attendance class.
The level of spiciness Reyes gives to each of his exams are between a 5 to 8. Took his course for MAT-10 and then MAT-1A and passed both with a B. Lectures are clear and understandable and he tends to add some seasoning into his examples for that extra kick and flavor. If you understand his reviews, you can pass the exam, practice a lot. C U in 1B
Reyes' spicy lectures aren't like mild hot sauce, they are intense and keep you alert and entertained. They make you realize that calculus isn't that difficult, algebra is. The reviews/hw given are small sampling of the tests, so taste those and you'll do fine. Spicy Rating: Habanero (on the scoville scale)
Good teacher for sure. But I don't like his style of forcing students in groups. It's the worst when you hate your group members
The class lecture was easy to understand but he does like to give a spicy problem in his test's. Other than that, Dr. Reyes is easy going and GO TO HIS OFFICE for HELP. He is very helpful during office hours but you still gotta do the hw and study and you will be ok.
Dr. Reyes ran a class that made you work hard, it was a sink or swim type of environment, however he helped as much as he could as well as giving resources. He made sure if you wanted to learn he would help you.
Took Prof Reyes summer 2015 and it was the worst mistake I have made during my college experience so far. I did not mind doing the homework but it was the exams that really set me behind. He graded pretty heavily on tests and even his quizzes were hard. It was a pretty scaring experience for me in his class.
He doesn't know how to teach. That's the crux of it. He just doesn't know how to teach. This of course only serves to exacerbate the issue of his feeble grasp on the course material. He decided to fumble his way through this class, and EVERYONE suffered for it. Too often, the test questions didn't match the homework or the in class "examples." BAD!
late and absence policy is horrible. Dropped after one absence and one tardy. And dropped other students by accident (a mistake of his that happened repeatedly).
He is rude and when I waited after to class to ask for help he looked at me as if he couldn't be bothered at all. I dropped the class. When it come to math please take your time to look into a math teacher and not just pick one around your schedule, it will save you pain in the future since math can be difficult for some people.. You've been WARNED
He is a lecturer enthusiast, not a teacher. If you need to learn how to do this kind of math, go to someone else. Talks more about higher math and himself then he does actually helping students. If you dont know how to do what hes doing, get ready to get talked down to for not doing his job before you got there.
He was super nice. I had him for the winter session (6 week) math 35 course. It was hard to cover all that material so quick, but he was nice, and cared more about concepts than answers, so you could pass the class even if you're not the best test taker.
Reyes was decent at covering the material but he really shined when it came to his effort outside of class. He was prompt at grading with feedback and was very available to talk to during his office hours. He even went so far as to hold extra lecture times on certain days for anyone that was struggling.
Questions are accepted and answered. Professor Reyes is respecting, caring, and an awesome lecturer. He gives a good introduction before he starts lecturing and links sections together. He cares about students getting the information and he might repeat the whole section if not.
Thee worst math teacher Ive taken this far. EVERY class he would mention higher math concepts that had nothing to do with the material thats on the test. He really cant teach/present information clearly and FLYS by each section giving limited examples. Tests are insane and he grades ever harder.
Again, he's a great lad before being a professor. If you have any questions just go talk to him during his office hours. He'll be more than happy to show you how math is done. Some of his test problems are spicy but overall, the spice is like a Cholula sauce. Weak. Don't be scared, just do the homework, study guides, and I guarantee you'll pass
Do the homework, test reviews, and attend class, and you should pass the class. The test reviews are similar to the tests. He also has a generous curve! He lectures pretty fast but you could see him during office hours for help. He is a very nice and supportive professor. Graded on: 4 tests and a final, some quizzes, group/class work, and hw.
Sometimes he can be confusing... but just ASK and he will spend time explaining whatever you need. A whole class period. He is very funny too
He was a great lecturer if you prefer to learn by people just talking, but he was also really good at making sure EVERYONE was participating.
Honestly he's a really nice guy and is always willing to help if you go ask for it. His office hours can be busy but he's always willing to help. There are some topics you will have to review on your own in order to fully understand but other than that I really enjoyed his class. Also the tests weren't that bad unless you don't do homework.
He would go off topic & that would makes us fall behind. Also, he would put things on tests that he never taught us how to do. He'd have grumpy days too -_-. BUT if you did all the homework & study guides & made sure you UNDERSTOOD what was going on, you would definitely pass. He curves as well which helped and he cared about my personal issues.
Be sure to do the homework (lots of it) and study guides. He's always encouraging to go to his office hours. The tests are okay. He puts more challenging questions on the tests so you have to really know your stuff and fully understand the concepts in order to do good on them + they are curved. Don't skip lecture-you'll find behind.
Amazing class. Fair amount of homework. You are allowed to use cheat sheets almost on all tests.
Homework is "required" but he doesn't actually grade it, he just checks that you attempted some work and gives you points. Tests can be pretty brutal but the questions are taken directly from the study guide so practice it above anything else (although you only need to study the hard problems, he wont put anything easy on the test).
In the beginning, he started off really well. As the semester passed by, he progressively got worse. The amount of homework he assigns makes one burn out more rather than learning it efficiently. Tests are extremely difficult, and his lectures sometimes do not even reflect the homework.
Reyes is a nice professor. He's willing to go through previous material for you to understand it. Although homework was worth 30% of our grade, it doesn't impact your grade at all. The lecture videos were long & we had to submit notes for them. The homework problems & study guides he assigns are very easy to solve, but the test Q's are way harder.
Prof. Reyes is very kind! He is willing to go back on basic algebra skills if you do not understand a concept in MAT-1A. Although his tests are worth 20% each, he will curve them. You definitely need to understand calc & basic algebra in order to do well on his tests. If you take him for precalc then for MAT-1A you should be prepared for his class.
Prof. Reyes is a wonderful instructor. I had him for 2 classes & find his teaching to be simple & amazing. He offers some extra credit & takes the time to review topics that are difficult. His tests are not the easiest but are doable with good studying. Homework is easy & not much assigned. He is willing to help everyone, I do recommend him.
Reyes is an amazing lecturer in a face2face environment, no doubt. Regretfully, I cannot say the same for his online course. The course material, comprised of prerecorded lectures, homework, & group work over Zoom, combined with the fast pace of winter courses left many students struggling to keep up. I recommend in-person, if not you better WORK
Not understanding at all! I hav a family emergency and he wouldn't budge! He said online learning is fake which explains his bad reviews for online! If you think online learning is a waste why teach thos who are paying for the class? Classtime felt like time for him to hear himself... he seems nice but his ego gets in the way too much
Professor Reyes has a very bright personality! Loved the class that I had with him. He explained every material so detailed and he always asked the students if his pace was fine, which it was! He loved us to discuss with others and will give the time for us to discuss the problems. Labs are also fun as most of it was done in groups.
Great dude, he likes making jokes and having fun. Lectures introduce topics clearly then uses lots of examples. Lots of homework but it really does help understand the material so do it! Short quizzes every chapter kinda tough but expected and tests every few chapters kinda hard if you don't do the homework. Labs are just worksheets super simple.
Reyes is a great professor who uses plenty of examples to clearly explain concepts. Lots of homework, but it really helps cement the material. I found unstuck study and the free textbook super helpful for studying.
Good professor, kind of unorganized with random pop quizzes and schedule isn't always aligned with syllabus. Office hours were limited but he tries to input new times, so don't be afraid to ask!
