Nice teacher, boring class
nice a little hard to understand but easy grader if you are nice to her
very nice woman. I enjoyed her class
nice lady, funny, lets class out early, very fair!
always talks about africa, dont have to read, easy B, doesnt give A
Nice woman. Hard to undrstnd due to accent & soft voice. Comes across as not knowing material very well. Tends to focus on few key ideas. VERY forgetful, unorganized. Lets out early if class participates & does readings. 2 tests, 1 paper; easy B
Worst class I have ever taken. Teaches politics, not women studies. Do not take!

She is nice, just comes off a little unclear. Laid back class kinda, and you always get out early, especially if u talk
I absolutely loved this class until I got my grade back. Somehow, after getting an A+ on the midterm, and a 95 on the paper, and 26 typed pages for my final, I got a B+ in the class. Somehow, that ain't right.
Very nice lady, hard 2 understand,easy A
She's a great lady. She's always willing to help. A little unorganized and never follows the syllabus, but not hard class if you do the reading and speak up in class.
Great lady... so nice! Get out early if you do the readings, if not just make something up and she will say its right... no attendence but she seems to remember everyone! Boys take it, its easy and there are all girls in the class! 2 take home tests- easy
An OK class but she is hard to understand
Nice lady, but hates American culture. She doesn't tell you when things are due and never follows the syllabus. Also you have to go the library and make numerous copies so be prepared to spend money on a class you already paid for.
Nice lady. Has a moderately thick Kenyan accent. She speaks good English though. I got an A. Just suck up to her and get on her good side. BS on your paper and throw in some stuff about how the material is changing your worldly views. Cool class.
Doesn't follow the syllabus, but grades papers very easily. Don't understand the point of a lot of what we do....
She never ever follows the syllabus! Grades papers really easily and is actually really nice when you get to know her. We watched a lot of movies. Mostly the class is about how women fought against things that are bad for the environment. Extremely boring.
Overall, easy assignments and presentation. The teacher seemed tough and intimidating at first, but really softened up. She's more interested in learning from you than you learning from her. So, most of the class is just discussion on topics and relating things to the US. Mostly writing assignments.
Very easy class, yet it's a very interesting class and it never has a dull moment. One presentation and a few papers to write, mostly reflection. You learn a lot about the plight of women throughout the world, a must class for anyone with a conscience. Plus, if you're a guy like me, you certaintly won't mind the predominant female presence! :)
She means well... I think. She knows a lot about the topic- she wrote the text for the class. But, when we talk about race and gender- she gets defensive and will never let you finish your thought. She is really vague and never tells you the assignment. She always comes in late- like 13 minutes. Easy class to slide through, but not a teacher.
Very easy class. One take-home midterm and one take-home final. The class is also interesting. She is also an easy grader- she only likes As, A-s and B+s- she directly stated. Nice lady, and she also knows a lot.
The papers are easy as long as you have a vague idea of what you are reading, but the book is very redundant. She isn't very clear about her expectations but isn't a harsh grader. Good for Honors credit.
Thick accent hard to understand at times. Never very clear on what she wants you to do, but she's very leniant. Calls on people randomly in class, but you can just make up something stupid to say. Easy. Just skim the readings and you'll be fine.
Professor can be quite absent-minded at times. Likes to talk about Africa quite often. Thought-provoking class, but she does tend to pick on the students. Assignments are confusing, her syllabus is quite a mess. Not a very hard class though.
Teacher is OK. She tries to scare you out the class in the beginning though. The class is easy, all you do is watch movies and discuss them afterwards. When it comes to papers, just write anything because she does not explain well at all. Not a very good teacher, but if you want an easy Gen-Ed, then this will probably be the class for you.
It is an easy class if you don't care about knowing your grade all semester. she is very soft spoken and does not like you using a laptop in her class. she will try to scare you the first class but is actually nice. doesnt believe in tests but you have to write papers, mostly opinion, and she doesnt tell you the grade MUST TO GO CLASS!
She isn't very clear about what she expects from you. No tests, but some random papers. She was pretty nice though.
most worthless class ever. nice lady, but i was bored out of my mind. watch a lot of videos, 2 papers, class discussions. her accent is hard to follow at times...
okay. where do i even begin? tries to scare you away, syllabus is unclear and we didn't do half the work on there.. which sounds like it would be good but we ended up with 3 assignments for the entire semester. unclear on what she expects and hard to follow.. talks/"jokes" too much about africa. attendance was mandatory at first, then didnt care.
has NO idea how to give a structured syllabus...didn't do half on the things on it. we convinced her to let us type up our notes instead of writing 5 essays throughout the semester. very confusing but as long as you know a little about womens issues you're out with an A. she's hilarious, btw
Dr. Wangari is an extremely smart person. Although her class doesn't follow the given syllabus I learned more about women's issues and how they relate to the world than I thought I would. She is very nice once you get to know her.
She doesn't really teach. She is very hung up on attendance and who is there and who isn't. she will spend a lot of time asking around to see why certain people aren't in class. there isn't much work. she can not remember peoples name so I have no idea how she determines her grades. take someone else.
As one of the few males in the class I can say that it was really interesting. Tests are easy (just read the chapters assigned) and the final exam questions are simple. I skipped about three times and even though she found out she simply told me to not do it so much. I really respect Professor Wangari and plan on taking classes with her again.
She doesn't demand most of the work she says she will, which is nice, but leads to confusion. It's necessary to have a WMST class discussing capitalism but Wangari doesn't teach it fairly; capitalism is just always bad. She's hard to understand. I didn't read any of the books and I did fine. Super tedious; don't bother unless you really have to.
Can hardly understand her accent. She is smart but can't teach. With that said, she is very easy and is easily swayed in class discussions. At first I hated her/the class. But i kept and open mind and ended up learning a lot. I would actually recommend her. She has interesting outlooks and got me to open my eyes.
Dr. Wangari is a nice person, but she doesn't teach you much about anything. This course was a waste of my time, and it took all my effort to get through her classes.
IDK why she has such negative reviews. shes funny in a unique way, she cares about you enjoying the class and getting something out of it. always get out early, shes willing to help and make compromises. doesnt follow the syllabus but cut her slack because she'll work with the class to make it fair. shes one entertaining lady, and smart. easy
This class was really easy, you watch a lot of movies, have little to no homework, plus you can BS all the tests and do well. However, understanding Wangari's accent is close to impossible. But at the same time, it's very entertaining. All in all, the class is very disorganized but survivable.
This class was incredibly easy. And she's entertaining. She doesn't make you do hardly ANYTHING all semester. We had to read one book that I read in high school and our two take home exams were based on class notes. its a night class and we were ALLOWED to miss three classes.
Please don't listen to the mean comments made about Professor Wangari, she is a very caring and kind teacher. she gives you an exam and discusses the answers, even take home exams. Extremely easy class, it was mean of some girls to laugh at her accent in class. i got an A+ just be respectful and do your work.
She is a very kind teacher, pls ignore all negative comments about her. Extremely easy class, she likes respectful people. she gives take home exams and discusses the answers. i love her :)
She is a very sweet person. She explains the answers to take home exams, and is a fair grader. You MUST participate in discussions. She doesn't like it when you joke in her class, and can sometimes take offense to small things. Just be respectful and you should be fine.
Professor Wangari is a kind Teacher, soft-spoken and caring. She gives you an exam and discusses it so you have no reason to fail. Would definitely recommend her, also be respectful to her. EASY A :-)
She is so kind and passionate about women's history. She really opened my eyes to a new perspective on women and even turned me half feminist! She doesn't want anyone to fail, just to get a new perspective. Her tests are all take home and are in the form of simple paragraph responses to questions that she went over in class. Easy and interesting A!
Professor Wangari is a sweet woman, but can be very rude. If you express your opinion in class and she doesn't agree with it she will say you are wrong, it's really frustrating. Her tests are pretty easy, but the class can be frustrating.
She is a very confusing woman, but is entertaining because of her accent. Does not use blackboard and does not give a clear rubric for what she's looking for on assignments. Have to participate in class and attendance is mandatory. Overall, it's a pretty easy class to get by in though.
She is the sweetest woman. She is entertaining in class with her silly perspective of things, but you still must take her seriously and respect her or she gives you a hard time in class. Watch a lot of movies and write responses on them, a few quizzes, but you go over all of the answers before and you'll know all of the questions before. Easy A.
Do NOT take this class. The reviews are lies, her tests are not take home at all. That's the only reason why I took this class is because people said that and also that it was an easy A. She doesn't follow the syllabus, doesn't use BB and isn't clear on guidelines for tests. Also, she never gives grades back.
Take her please! She is a bit confusing at times but she is full of great and interesting information that changed my outlook on women's history completely. She is entertaining and super sweet. The exams are based off of a study guide that is then USED AS THE TEST. I just took the exam it was two questions. Pay attention and watch the videos!!
Professor Wangari is a sweet professor, she tells you the questions that are going to be on the test. The class is basically your opinion but be sure to add points from the movies, lecture and text. Nice teacher! Easy A
she's very nice but completely useless. She has no idea what she's talking about and her accent is very thick. Easy A, just show up and do a weekly paper on what you learned in class and 2 tests (Essay form)you can write however you want her grammar is atrocious. Dont expect to learn.
SHE IS THE BEST. I LOVED HER. Look past her accent and you will be successful in the class. SHE LOVES WHEN MALES ARE IN HER CLASS, it shows her that they care!
I hated her the first week, she seems really harsh. She is actually a sweet woman with a sense of humor and she knows more than she leads on. Her accent is thick, but it's ok. She forces participation and class is so BORING, but it is an easy A. Only a midterm/final that is basically your opinion, no need to study.
First, her accent is very thick. I don't know what she says half the time. Second, you need common sense to pass her exams, you learn zilch. Third, I spent 89 dollars on a textbook we didn't use (She's the author) and last, she takes forever to grade tests much less return them.
She is such a sweet woman but every class seems the same. Every class is a discussion about pretty much the same thing. She is very unorganized, doesn't check email, and doesn't have a blackboard. Also, the syllabus is not a good guideline because she doesn't go by it at all. She is cute and funny though and it's an easy class.
She is a very nice lady but can sometimes be very confusing! Have to ask a million questions to clarify what she wants you to do. Participation is a must. Class got very boring near end of semester because you do the same thing every class. One quiz. Take home testfinal.
She's a very kind lady! The class is pretty much all discussions, she doesn't really follow the syllabus and topics do become repetitive. I didn't turn in a few assignments including a paper and still got an A-. Pretty much just show up and smile, and give a couple lines of input and your good.
Midterm is take home. We didn't have any assignments before then. Afterwards we just had to do some chapter summaries. Must buy book but can be split cost between groups. Not many assignments and class is not hard at all. Sociological concepts are reinforced through the course for women around the world.
A very interesting professor to say the least, has years under her belt and knows her stuff. If you have taken another women studies course, this is pretty much a repeat but an easy A for a core class. If you can pull through the long lectures then it is worth taking with her.
Show up and talk. 1st Day of class will be setting everyone into groups that focus on a different social factor throughout the year. She'll stress that everyone needs to buy the book. DON'T! Literally 1 person in the group have it and split up the cost among your group members. Scan the book ch's for everyone to read. No tests. 2 papers.
TAKE THIS CLASS! Yes, she has an accent. It's really not bad. She is so sweet and we didn't do anything the last few weeks. No tests, two papers, everything she gives is take home including the mid term and final. Easy A if you participate and and read a little bit.
Almost every class is a discussion, some of them get very heated. Wangari has strong opinions and is not afraid to voice them. May not always be supportive of your opinions if they do not match hers. She will stress how important attendance is, but I still got a decent grade without attending much. Do not buy her book, split the price between group
Be ready for a lot of heated arguments and discussions in class. Although many of the arguments were controversial, Professor Wangari stayed more unbiased then I would assume most women studies teachers would. A major downfall of the class was how disorganized the curriculum and grading was but as long as you show up and participate its an easy A.
Get a classmate and share the book. You can finesse your way out of using the book because we discuss the same topics every class. Don't skip class. She's a very sweet woman but isn't the most organized professor. She doesn't use Blackboard so it's almost impossible to know your exact grade. You should get an A at the end of it.
First and foremost do not take this class, she is a sweet lady but the absolute worst at teaching! The class itself is not bad at all, its just the way that she teaches. She does not update on Blackboard, does not give any work back, and her grading is not clear what-so-ever. The midterms and final are NOT take home!
Show up to most classes because she cares about your participation and learning your name. Just buy the books she asks you to buy BC it'll help a little. We had one little paper to write on a book and one midterm that she technically gave us the answers to the class before and then the final. Very unclear on directions all year but Easy A or B
It's not a class worth taking, you don't know how your grade is calculated so your final grade will most likely not reflect the work you put in
I think Professor Wangari is a very nice person, but as a teacher she is very hard to learn from. She isn't organized and there is no structure to her class. The class is easy to pass but if you really are interested in the class and want to learn I would recommend not taking her.
I would not recommend this course with this professor because instruction was absolutely terrible. I was very interested in the course topic, unfortunately very few of our discussions really addressed the issues women face on the global stage. Any questions from students were met with nonchalance, and sometimes even anger.
Professor Wangari is very understanding however, she didn't follow the syllabus AT ALL. The class was all over the place, we barely stayed on topic and when it was time to take the exam, questions we never even addressed in class came up. It was a very chill class.
She doesn't have a blackboard or an email. The lectures don't follow the syllabus, if they cover material listed at all. There are two required readings, one of which is a book that she wrote herself. The questions that she asks sometimes in lectures are unclear and she fails to elaborate when asked to do so. She doesn't understand accommodations
It is time for her to retire. She has had to cancel class 5 times already and when she is there she doesnt teach and is all over the place and super unorganized. The final is tomorrow and I have no idea when or where its going to be and I cant email her because she never activated blackboard and she doesnt tell us our grades. Awful.
Her class was super disorganized. Do not do it to yourself. Attendance is required but it was never taken. Our grade was based on a midterm, final and attendance only. So if you fail one it basically determines your grade. A nice person but not a good professor!
Do not waste your time with this teacher, If someone says it's an easy A it is, but it is not a guaranteed A in her class. Do yourself a favor and look for another teacher. She grades off what she thinks, not facts. The class is based on a midterm that she doesn't give much information on, and a final. Class isn't mandatory.
Do. not. take.
She told the class to buy textbooks towards the end of the semester, this woman is old and needs to retire. She doesn't have the compacity to teach a college anymore.
This teacher is a fool, DO NOT TAKE AT ALL COST. Do not let your friend talk you into taking this class, it is a setup. She is unprofessional and needs to get her teaching license taken away.
DO NOT TAKE!!!! There is little to no structure to how the class is organized. Many spelling errors in the exams and even the textbook. It is never clear what will be on exams. She provides vague questions for us to answer and gets annoyed when we ask for specifics. Also does not use blackboard/is completely unreachable outside of class.
Dr. Wangari is a lovely professor. She is very nice and easy to get along with. However, she is very unorganized. It took about two weeks for us to receive our syllabus. We turned in one assignment the whole semester. I would not recommend this class if you value your mental health.
