she's an amazing prof... I just wished she liked teaching us
she's pretty cool, funny, but she marks pretty hard.
Do not take this course. Insane amount of work. VERY VERY hard marker
can you say " HARD MARKER "
Expectations were high. Course content was difficult to understand
the material is hard and plentiful..not completely brutal course but pretty much
She ruined my entire first year of university. Worst prof I ever had!

took this course, remembered why I hate English
I really have fun there...but expectations are HIGH

Very nice Prof. But very hard, try to avoid!
She does not understand that we have not been looking at the material for years.
Decent prof, only hard on you if you come unprepared or won't participate.
She is a professor who chooses favorites and picks on specific students.

if you ask for stuff, she will teach. very hard class.
If Dr. Wilputte marks you hard, it's because you don't work hard enough in her class. And she doesn't choose favourites.

Very nice and willing to help. My Favorite class by far!!!

This women is great! She wants you to work, you don't need to be amazing but you need to think, take a stand and do the work. She's super easy to talk to so if you don't understand or are having problems than ask, that's why she's there!
Easy to talk to and interested in developing student potential.
GREAT PROF!!!
Excellent prof, very fun & gets into her work! Tough marker, but aren't all english profs?
AWESOME! Knows her stuff! And puts on a good class, hard marker but is justified in her marking, she expects good work! Definitely a fun prof and a great prof to talk to, she's totally one of the girls!
Goes out of her way to give you information, fun, casual teaching style, good essay topics, and interested in you as a person, not just as a student. I'd recommend her to everyone!
Absolutelly amazing prof, it'd be the perfect class if she marked a little easier, lol. Class is always interesting every day . . . she can always find something suggestive in literature.
I like to go to class because she is so cute
appears to be very helpful, but following her advice does not seem to help....i took an essay to her, and she told me it would be really good if i fixed a few minor things, so i did but i only got a 60%
A bit confusing, it is as if she expects everyone to know what is going on in her head. Funny in her own way. I like the class even if it is a bit of a headtrip
Very helpful and funny!
Earla Willputte Rocks my world!
I love this woman. She's TOUGH, but so fair. Her classes are so ENJOYABLE to sit through. Hilarious class discussions...kooky, and a little nuts, but she's great!!! She encourages participation. She's laid back, etc. I'm taking her again next year for her, not the course.
This course is a great transition from high school. She is really friendly and always willing to help you if you need it. Although she is a hard marker, take essays to her and she'll do her best to get you a decent grade. I totally recommend this class!
Cracks me up. Very good prof, and I plan on taking her next year. Shes a hard marker but its definatly worth the work if you like english. AND I DO!!! even though im a science major, she manages to keep me interested
just a wonderful person !
Great class! Very easy going both in class and for your schedule.
In order to get a good mark, you have to raise your hand and try to answer every question.
She is an awsome prof, she is really funny and makes the class disscusions fun, she likes to get everyone involved too, so if you dont like to talk your in trouble, her only down fall is she is a hard marker, but she tries to help as much as she can, I would for sure take her again!
Was soooo funny!..I am a science student and english is not my specialty, trust me, but she made the class fun!...Only down side, not the easiest marker ever hired
she was funny as hell!! however, she can be a very hard marker with her essay
She's definately interesting to listen to. I find she's a very hard marker, its really frusturating. However, she is entertaining.
quirky, really tricky when it comes to assignments, and hard marker
She has a great sense of humour if you can catch on. She wants people to speak up but will rarely agree with you, not to discourage you, but to get the class involved in a for/against battle...maybe she's twisted...in any case she knows her stuff and urges you on to do better and think more deeply.
Love her, love the class! She made it a lot of fun because she has an awesome sense of humor. She is really helpful but she is a very hard marker on exams and papers. I went from 80's and 90's to 70's so prepare to drop a few points. I can't wait to take her again sometime!
Funniest prof at X. Tho she is a ridiculously hard marker, it is university and no biggie to drop a few points in turn for the most entertaining class on campus. Exams and midterms are as fair as they could be, but papers suck. Oh well...Wilputte rocks my world!
i love her! never a dull moment in her class, made the material interesting, she is wicked funny, yah she is a hard marker but the class is worth it!
She's awesome. The only 8:15 I really enjoyed going to because it was fun to be there. She makes you work for your marks and ultimately makes you a better student if you take her advice and criticism and apply it to write a better paper. Don't miss out on the Earla experience!
Hard!!!!! May be funny but it is SO not worth it. Went from 90's to 50's-60's. Very funny and nice, but if you want good marks then don't take her class. If you don't mind dropping some ( or a lot) of marks, then have fun.....
i really did not enjoy this english course with this Prof i found her a very hard marker and impossible to do good with
She is a good prof, but a tough marker. She likes people to participate in discussion in class and is not happy when people have not read the material before class. She can be a bit quirky, but interesting.
Everyone complains that she is a hard marker, but I'm not even an English majour and I had no real problems so far. The classes are also probably the best classes I've attended. Actually worth getting up for at 8am!
She makes class entertaining, even though the subject was dead boring. I actually wanted to go to class! She's nice, helpful, and a fair marker. She can tell when you're just regurgitating class notes on essays, but tests weren't marked as hard.
I am an English Major and I failed her 100 level course. Worse prof I've ever had... hands down. When I re-took eng 100 a year later, I had the dean of the department, and he marked hard, but not unreasonable! I got a 80 in his class. Awful, awful teacher.
Earla Wilputte is by far the best prof I've experienced thus far at St. F.X. Funny, quirky, witty and downright interesting- you couldn't pick a better class. True, she's a difficult marker but if you possess any talent in English- she's sure to bring out your best. Attend regularly, participate and put in effort. She'll change you as a person.
Interesting lectures, brutal marker. Her expectation level for marking is insane. Essays and exams are tough, you absolutely cannot regurgitate your notes, you will fail. The worst part for me was that I loved the works we studied but hated the assignments, they were boring and hard to do research for. Only take if you are really dedicated.
I liked English with Dr. Wilputte. She's actually pretty interesting. Not an easy marker but it definitely helps if you talk in class. Try to answer some of her questions in class and don't just sit there and sleep. I'd recommend her.
I had Earla in 1989-1990 in a 100 course where we studied Chaucer and Tess Of the D'Urberviles. I have neve forgotten either work, nor have I forgotten her passion and compassion. She was a fantastic woman and educator. I was immature and didn't have a sniff, but she kept me interested. 22 years ago, she was great and kind. I loved it!
I didn't like her at all. Very strict, readings were almost impossible to keep up with, and writing assignments didn't really make any sense.
Very interesting class! I enjoyed her class but she was a very hard marker. Her input on my papers when I went to see her during office hours was was worth it though. I learned a lot. Do the readings and participate in the class! She likes when people participate!
The material was fine, but Earla is an EXTREMELY hard marker (papers especially). For example, I got a 57 on a paper that I started three days before it was due (understandable). For the second one, I went to the Writing Centre twice and spent three weeks on it and got a 58... Just an unreasonably hard marker watch out!
I had the worst time in her English 100 course. She is an unreasonable marker, does not give sufficient time on midterms, and does not actually teach how to write an essay properly. Instead we spend all of our classes reading, and analyzing material. Unless you're a descendent of Shakespeare, you will struggle to make it through this class.
Overall decent prof. She really makes you work for a good grade. Some of the concepts I found a little ambivalent. The tests are all essays, on top of the usual essays. The course was very essay-heavy (some are worth 20%). Attendance is not mandatory, but I feel like she judges you for missing or skipping, due to the small class size.
Very tough grader. Doesn't plan out classes. Extremely boring.
Her tests are mediocre but she is brutal when marking papers. Completely unfair. In other English courses I make 80s on my papers and in her class my papers were in the 50s.
Greatest regret of my first year. Extremely unfair grader, boring classes and very judgmental (made me not want to participate in class). Unless you love english, old literature and a professor who lectures at you instead of engaging you then do not take her english 100 class.
Wilputte is by far the most closed-minded prof at STFX. She punishes students for having different ideas than her and will not listen to other interpretations of the text. She is super nice and friendly in class (which makes u want to like her) Also a mandatory class for English majors to fulfil 17/18-Century requirement. Marks unfairly hard.
Professor Wilputte is a very friendly person and for that, I would take her classes again. But she marks extremely hard and leaves little room for personal interpretation. Reading the material is necessary in order to participate in class, which she expects out of everyone.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS, EVEN IF YOU ARE HALFWAY THROUGH THE YEAR DROP OUT NOW!!! I worked my butt off in this class all year, and now if I pass the exam I pass the class, fail I fail it. It is not worth the hard work. I have lost sleep over this class. Not. Worth. It.
The professor is a rough and hard grader. I have a sibling studying doctorate and even she said that this grading is even rare for her level. The professor has no interest in being cooperative with the students to help them earn a fair grade for the amount of effort they put into her class. Would never take her again!
Professor Earla Wilputte is a real gem. She's incredibly entertaining and makes the classes go by fast. Although her classes may be lectures, she's very engaging with the class and allows for a deeper understanding of all things English related. I highly recommend this professor for anyone going into English. She's incredibly caring, sweet and kind
Dr Willputte is insanely difficult to write for. She expects way too much for a first-year undergrad course. Her lectures can be boring, but she does give valuable insight into literature. Her main issue is her lack of specific feedback. I'm convinced that even if I corrected every underlined thing in my essays, she would still give the same mark.
dont put yourself through this
Earla is an extremely hard marker. After working my butt off in this course since I started, I wholeheartedly wish I had dropped it and made up the credits somewhere else. Don't put yourself through the trouble, this course is a heavy one and not worth it if you don't need it for your choice in major.
Very heavy grader. Thought I was doing well on my assignments but got a bad grade on each one
In my grade 12 year of highschool, I finished English with a 94 average. In this course? A 50. She marks way too hard and does not give clear feedback. If you try to follow the little feedback she gives on your next assignment, you will still do bad. She is not clear on what she expects and marks way too hard. Don't take it unless you need it.
Super hard and unfair grader. I passed high school english with a 96 and wrote a lot of essays and papers, but I barely passed her class. She marks so tough and does not give good corrections. She is not helpful at all.
Attendance was very strict as she takes it. Her class was very boring and long. When she grades papers she will find something wrong no matter what. high expectations especially for a intro class. 6 credit course was a big mistake. She is a nice person but as a prof I would not recommend.
DO NOT TAKE HER. She does not explain assignments well and is very hard marker. Every assignment I have done I thought did well on I bombed. Even my friend who is an honours student and top English major at this school almost failed. There is courses that you will learn more and be less stressed. I cannot recommend her in any way. Nice lady though.
Sweet woman, but horrible professor. No matter what I did or how hard I tried, I got 60s on every assignment, and she was not very clear in her feedback. Participation is very important for the course, but it was hard to find things to add to discussions. Again, very sweet, but she is a tough teacher, which can be frustrating.
One of the worst professors I've had. No matter how hard you try she will still find things to pick at in assignments and papers. Course was 6 credits (year long course) it was the biggest mistake I've ever made.
One of the worst courses I have ever taken despite averaging 90-100% on all of my essays in high school and college. She gives terrible and vague feedback and no matter what you do you will still get 50s and 60s. The lectures are boring and most of the course is focused on the book Jane Eyre with few assignments given 10-20 minutes and no planning.
I know top military officers that are less nit-picky than her. There is always something wrong with what I write. Have been told to go to the Dean, by an academic advisor, about problems with her. Do NOT recommend.
she is the worst prof ive EVER HAD do not take her course i go high grades and she is so bad
do not recommend
