Worst teacher ever. He gives us assignments to study and when everyone fully understands the chapter, the test questions he writes himself are 100x harder than what we expect. the First month he said those who get a 50% or lower on the first test will fail my class 100% guaranteed and half the class failed the first test. So no hope in that class.
hardest teacher ever. Tests are very hard and most likely guarenteed half of his students will fail
DONT EVER TAKE THIS TEACHERR!!!! EVERRR!
His tests are much harder than what he teaches and probability in passing is extremely low
Very hard. Not bad at teaching but the test he provides are extremely hard and you have to actually study to pass the class
DO NOT TAKE. VERY HARD AND CANNOT UNDERSTAND HIS TEACHING. I LIKE MATH AND HAVE ALWAYS BEEN GOOD AT IT, BUT THIS GUY IS JUST RIDICULOUS
Class is very hard! Do not take! The homework and everything we go over in class is super easy almost as if I'm in high school again. He tells us to study a chapter or two for the test but then come test time the questions are much harder or they weren't anything that came from what we studied. Im good at math and never failed test in my life.
ridiculously hard. I have never gotten below a B in any math class. He is so unclear when any one asks a question. His problem is that he is very smart but doesn't know how to explain things. I can teach myself the material from the book and understand it then the tests are nothing like it. DONT TAKE THIS CLASS. it is my biggest mistake.
The way he teaches is very simple. There are lots of quizzes which may help you to learn sections better: they are very easy to do. In the exams he asks whatever he teaches in class. He is so kind and very helpful. He may look like strict person, but definetely he is not. He tries his best to let students pass his class. He is very humorous guy.
i didn't understand anything, so i just dropped it. I would rather receive a "W" then an "F"
Please don't take this guy. The chances of passing are very low. His tests are impossible and are nothing like the homework or the examples he does on the board. If you're looking for an F, take him.
He is good as long as you doing your homework. If you looking for an easy class, don't take it.
I use to love math, then i took this class and for the first time i failed. Save yourself the trouble and dont take this professor. I wished i would have taken 5 mins to read these comments. His test are impossible to pass and he doesnt explain the material properly.
no comment on him
I have never gotten below a B on math my whole life after taking him. His lectures are nothing like the tests. His tests are just ridiculously hard
Well he IS a smart guy and knows alot about math but he doesn't seem to know how to use his knowledge to teach his students. His lectures are not clear and understandable. His tests are nothing from what I have learned. I have gone to tutoring and have studied hours and hours everyday for his exams... But I got an F. So did 30other students in clas
If you need an easy class, Don't take him.
VERY HARD!! NEVER TAKE HIS CLASS! NEVERR!
You get good grades? Then don't take classes with him. It was hard to learn anything with his type of teaching. The majority of the class failed. Although homework was assigned, it was rarely checked for correction. I will be retaking this class with another teacher.
i regret so much taking his class... don't regret later, take another teacher
His lectures are power points so its not easy to copy every single thing down. But he posts those power points on ecompanion so if you want to go back to those. If you do all your homework and memorize how to do them you will do fine on the exams.Don't be assured that you just finished all your hw,go over them and be sure you know the steps.Pretty ni
When I first took his tests I thought that some of the questions accidentally got added from his other classes. They were seriously impossible. Don't take this guy!! Waste of time and effort.
my first F in my life from this class
yes, the class requires you to show up and to do all of the hw.. but it is for your own learning. He stays after hours and review any questions you have during class. Overall all I had a good experience, be prepared to put in a lot of time for completing hw...
very good and talented professor?
so so hard. Hardest teacher in smc
i read about him prior to taking his calculus class...let me tell you one word HARDDDDDDDddd! he makes his test ridiculously challenging....he tells you if you need help everythings in the book-__- liez! If your a math major..go for it...if you actually want to get taught take someone else!
my second time taking calculus and im bearly getting by!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1/4 of the class let and i guarantee you most likely failing! super hard and not helpful at all! i used to love math before i had him....
Did I fail?.. Yes.. Yes I did.
He is THE hardest teacher I've taken so far.. and I failed, I failed
NEVER take his class. His tests are never for the students who take calc for the first time. If you are familiar enough with calc and you are an expert on it,then you can take him.
Expects you to know all the trig identities.Likes to throw in super hard questions on the test. LOTS OF HW! Which is easy but then the test are just ridiculous. Hw didnt help me at all. Does not explain some things clearly.Overall HORRIBLE TEACHER. Knows his stuff though.
Biggest mistake! I'm studying Calc 10 hrs a day and I'm learning, but his tests are designed to TRICK you with material you just "should have known" that we never covered! I understand almost everything but I'm just HOPING for a C-. His tests don't match the homework and his lectures are gibberish. If you want to pass a math class, don't take him!
I don't understand how he can be a teacher. He is horrible! His examples don't cover enough and expects us to know everything. The homework does not help, and this book is just as bad as he is at explaining the material. I'm studying like never before and i am still failing. Never take this teacher. You've been warned
He is REALLY hard! I've never had trouble with math until I took this class
Doesn't deserve the low rating. He is a very tough instructor, but people, this is NOT a bad thing! He keeps you on your toes, and you learn a lot because of it. Tests are difficult but by no means impossible. Look for little "tricks" (like algebraic manipulations) that make problems easier. Work and study hard and you should do fine in his class.
This class is harder than rocket science math!
Almost everyone Failed his class. No A's. Im not sure if there were any B's. But most were C's, D's and Mostly F's. I would not recommend this professor unles you are an expert in Math. I am pretty good with math and never have I gotten a grade lower than a B, but after taking his class, I got my first D. Ridiculously hard. Avoid!
Google "smc spring 2012 grade distribution" and look up his math 26 class. 29 out of 35 of the kids either failed or dropped the class. His test are nothing like the homework; do yourself a favor and don't take him.
He is EXTREMELY hard. Harder than Advanced Calculus. Or even harder. It's almost impossible to Pass his class. I usually don't comment on this website, but I just had to. His class was the worst experience I've ever had. I can't stress this enough. DO. NOT. TAKE. HIS. CLASS.
It was nearly impossible to comprehend anything he was teaching. Even with the help of the math lab, I still could not manage to get above a C. His exams are hard, final is harder. The only way to get a good grade is to know exactly what to study for (which there is no way to find out). Take this class with a different professor.
Great professor. Not sure what these other reviews are about.. Just make sure you read the textbook, and DO THE HOMEWORK. Essays are questions done in class.. Reviews day of exams right before taking it. AND if you feel intimidated to leave the class midsemester, DONT. chances are you will pass if you APPLY yourself!
Yes, this professor is very hard but I think he is much better than other "easy" math profs. He makes you think and apply knowledge. To get grade you want you have to go beyond just doing the min. homework. He is SUPER smart and you can learn a lot from him.
I understand that he is a smart professor and all. But people would prefer an easy Math professor because this professors exams are literally impossible. Other math professors are do-able is we study. However, this professor is almost impossible to pass
I took him in fall 12 and LOVED his class. I am taking one level up stat class this semester and what he taught me is helping me A LOT. He does know how to teach. You really have to pay attention in class, do homework and study hard for the exam, but all that work will pay cause his exams are hard but fair and not tricky. I am glad I took him.
This class required a lot of HW yet this is for your own good because it allows u a practice and the opportunity to work though anything you may not understand. I was able to get 100% on Exam 3 and an A in the class. Just come to class, follow the lecture, do HW and get at A! I am now enrolled in his Math 8 class for Fall 2013
Smart guy, bad teacher. He pushes but doesn't give you the tools to succeed. A telling sign of a bad teacher is one who makes up problems on the fly in his head rather than preparing a specific concept for practice. Also, he test you on stuff that is not in the homework.
If you want to pass I would recommend taking someone else. You need to go to class as there will be surprise quizzes and the test are very difficult and most of the time the homework doesn't cover what you need to know.
If you want to do well in this class, do the hw ASAP, get extra help if you need it. Ask questions in class. I understand the low grade professor, no hard feelings.
I think he tries to be clear in class, but sometimes the concepts don't always sink in. I attended the SI sessions (regular tutoring with our class's supplemental instructor) and I feel that it helped as much as actually going to class. Do the homework online for practice, and go to tutoring if you need it.
THIS CLASS IS HARD!!! Trust me, the homework are crazy!! Too much homework and quizzes!! Tests are really hard to, especially the finals!! i do not recommend this class, choose another professor. I did all of his homework and got good grades but still i failed this class. Just choose another professor.
Very unclear. Really hard and has a horrible connection to students.
Homework + 10-12 random quizzes (from last lecture homework) takes 10%, 3 tests (60%) & 1 final (30%). Do every homework on the book he assigns and in-class exercises, examples, proof carefully and as many times as you can, surely you may get 80-95% on the tests. The rest 5-20% depends on how your brain works. He's really good. You'll learn a lot.
So bad, just completely awful. Tons of hw that does not prepare for his exam, reads lecture from the power point, dumb projects. Do not take.
he is not considerate and fair on how he quiz and test students, for summer, which is fast, he quiz daily, only allows 2/3 of the class time for test, other teachers give complete class time for testing, and for quiz other teachers also do it once a week, not daily. He takes too many points off from errors on the tests. DO NOT TAKE HIM.
I took both Math 7 & 8 with Prof. Jahangard. He's one of the best Math professors I've ever had. His lectures are very clear, he explains everything well and gives excellent examples. For the Summer class, he even gave us extra credit which he never did before! He is a great teacher. You will learn A LOT from him!
Professor Jahangard is a tough professor, and that's a good thing! He challenges the students and I became a much stronger student after his class. He lectures are the key for tests. You gotta work in his class, if you don't you will fail. All the students who said he's a bad teacher and the class was impossible are lazy. Definitely take him.
very fast. make easiest things look complicated. only 7 to 10 questions on the test even on the final. tough grader.
OK, but not great. Differential Equations and Dynamical Systems aren't his area, so he sticks to the book pretty closely, and its not a great book. Stressed computations more than intuitive understanding. Only spent like 2 days on systems of ODE's, and nothing on fourier series or matrices, which you really need in a DE course.
He wasnt hard like I heard. He gives quizzes almost every weeks (would drop the lowest one), and 3 exams. Exams have 10 to 12 questions, many of them are exactly like examples and hw he gives in the lecture (That's why some people find it difficult because they dont do enough homework or dont pay much attention to go over the hw before the exam)
I felt pretty intimidated taking Jahangard's class because he makes students go up on the board to solve a math problem. He looks for competence among his students when assigning quizzes and tests. Get as much tutoring as you can to pass his class and do all the homework and study very hard before coming into class.
good teacher
Hard teacher. Doesn't explain things that well. What he does have is high standards. He expects you to know and understand the material quite deep. He is extremely well educated and understands it to the utmost degree. If your algebra or trigonometry is shaky, prepare to be annihilated. If you have good fundamentals, you will be fine.
unlucky me he was my prof on those first day open classes . His a stict grader, test are hard, his lect confused the crap outta me, I dropped the class after 2nd test came back just to see what his teaching only 7 people left , 6 were intl students probably had no option to drop . if you havent takn math in a while dont take him. Dont explain well.
Extra credit? No such thing for him
This dude was the hardest professor I've ever taken. I studied literally 7 days a week, all day for his class. Mind you I'm not the brightest math student. If you are a math major and want to be tested hard, take this man. I wish I could take him again to really learn more. That being said, I want to transfer so I'll just choose an easier teacher.
Lectures extremely fast (had to rewrite my notes after every session), very confusing, quiz every class, A LOT of hw, also thought he was quite intimidating. Hardest class I have ever taken and would recommend to stay away at all costs. I am a science major (and have a very high GPA) yet I received my first F ever. Do not take.
He is the worst math teacher I have ever had! His lectures are strictly definitions and are not helpful at all! I had to learn all the material on my own.
I consider myself a great math student . . . . just not in his class
Toughest professor I have ever taken in both community college and university. He will test you on the most obscure concept and arithmetic that he very briefly mentions in his lectures. There is no way for you to write everything he says down because he lectures too fast and then he expects you to know everything. Exams are 4-5 questions good luck.
The class felt mechanical; he's certainly not in his element when teaching as he can't relate to students well, and gets frustrated easily. I wish I had looked at tests from previous semester all along because I realized that he likes to give same tests word-for-word as old ones - may change Q's slightly (due to book change) -seek out past students
I took the condensed winter session of statistics in addition to taking another class and working, let me tell you it was one of the hardest classes I have ever taken. I averaged 3 hours of homework for this class daily. So much work! I didn't have a life. Professor isn't very helpful. Expects you to do most of the learning and work on your own.
He is not approachable, moves too fast, never breaks out of a serious face. I'm pretty sure no one in my class passed. This should be your last option. Beware!!
I liked this teacher I did learn a lot from him. Where it went wrong for me is the way he test is he really tries to test you to see if you understand the actual theory so the exams kinda feel like a ambush, prob. never seen at all in class. The best example I can give is he basically said study everything 4 final and some stuff was not even on it
He's a very friendly, chill person and honestly does try his best to help students. It was a hybrid class so you were responsible for learning on your own. It's unfair to blame him if you didn't understand.
Dont take him!!!!!! Hes extremely tough grader, doesnt give partial point. Lots of homework and quizzes almost every class.
doesn't deserve the bad grading here. His class was hard, but if you work hard, do homework, and you understand the material you'll do great! He is available in his office hours and also he has some lab hours. You can come to him with every question and he will help you!
Good lecturer. For linear algebra, 5 Qs in each test and you select 4. Getting one question wrong will leave you with a 75. His tests are meant to measure how smart you are, so it is hard to improve your grades. Studying textbook over and over won't help. Quizzes are very easy and they should help you.
Professor Jahangard is an excellent teacher. His class is challenging and very thorough. He teaches and explains the proofs for each of the theorems he presents, so you get a complete understanding of the material. His HW and regular quizzes are very useful and his exams are very fair. I learned a lot in his course and I highly recommend him.
He is very straightforward and explains things well. Also very organized. I loathed Stats when I took it 10 years ago and Prof Jahangard made it so easy to learn. You definitely have to do the work and come to class in order to learn from him, but isn't that the point? I couldn't recommend him more.
Lectures and homework don't align with the tests. His lectures and homework only build you up to fail his tests. I got a B in Calc1, did all my homework, scored great on his pop quizzes, and studied pretty much as hard as I could and still failed his exams. As a intro to calculus course, making his class this hard is unreasonable.
If you are serious and ready to learn math, show up to his class and pay attention. Professor Jahangard will take you where you need to go if you trust him. You will walk away with newfound confidence and mathematical maturity. Grades don't define you, so drop that mentality and just focus on the concepts. You will be lucky to take Calc II with him
I took MATH 54 Online/summer '19 with Jahangard. Really nice/great professor. Because I'm an older student/hadn't taken math in over 15 yrs, it was the material/not the professor that was difficult. I spent many hours with the tutor, wish I'd gone earlier. I'm very happy with my C grade, it was all I needed to finish my AA degree. I learned a lot!
Never had a problem with math in my entire life, until I reached Jahangard's calculus 2 class. Very poor lecture, doesn't give you tools to learn yourself. In addition, he is a very tough (and in my opinion, unfair) grader. The only positive characteristic is that he is knowledgeable. Please avoid at all costs.
I took Jahangard 4 years ago for Calc 2. I still remember the nightmares/anxiety from his class. Had a 4.0 until his class. Studied 9 hours/day neglecting all other classes. Proofs, tutoring etc. Still got a D. Took Calc 2 again never studied, got an A easy. I transferred to USC for Business, graduated cum laude. Unless math is your life don't take
Good professor, very steady and reliable lecturer, and consistent workload. I dropped the course but appreciated his expertise and I did learn a lot.
This was probably one of the most difficult classes Ive taken. Most of the concepts he focuses on are better fit for upper level calc classes. For tests the homework sets he asks you to submit are a pretty good reflection of the tests. For an introductory calc class I would recommend finding another Professor as it was extremely hard to even pass.
He is a great teacher! I enjoy his lectures and I think his classes are challenging but I do apprieciate a good challenge and trying to grow from it. He assigns a steady workload and it is expected to be present when attending his class. I hope this helps!
Probably the worst professor I have ever had. Graded exclusively on quizzes and tests, on which there is no partial credit. 1 question wrong on a test can drop you 1 letter grade, and 1 q off on a quiz can get you a 4/10. Test content is unlike homework or other content from class. Do not take this professor
I took Math4 w/ him over summer, so it was an accelerated class, and he was amazing! He is so nice, you have tons of resources to learn the material. He genuinely just wants to help his students. I don't understand the bad reviews.
he sucks
his ability to teach was horrible, barely anybody passed this class
Took this class for calc 2. If you chose to take this class, then congratulations, you walked into pop quizes, no partial credit, strict grading (marked wrong for not putting one symbol), exam questions that are not even close to hw problems, terrible lectures, etc. Oh and he also says something like "I'll give you 0's if you keep complaining"
Professor Jahangard is insanely strict. You can get the right answer but no points if you don't do the problem in the exact way he wants you to. I had to drop this class halfway through the semester because I simply could not stand him anymore. Hard avoid.
boring lectures. lots of homework. tests that are nothing like the homework. AVOID THIS MAN.
Please avoid this professor. I should've trusted the feedbacks from other students. There's s a reason students come back to leave negative feedbacks after years. He just gave me trauma and nightmares. He uses the most irrational ways of submitting homework/tests when there are much easier ways/outlets that can be used for Math.DON'T DON'T TAKE HIM
Freshman for college and did not check RMP. Would dance around questions and not give the answer that you're looking for. The lectures are slightly helpful but still require you to use Pearson videos, which are extremely outdated, forcing you to use other online resources for help.
Do NOT take this class. The teacher is ineffective and the exams are not relevant to the course material. As a former straight-A student, I had a bad experience. He doesn't understand students at all.
Professor Jahangard was an amazing professor and I appreciated how he took the time to explain processes and worked step by step to ensure understanding. My grade truly could've been higher had I taken extra time outside of class to practice the material. Do the homework and attend lectures as everything you need for tests will be covered there.
As soon as the semester begins he basically opens up all the hw (on Pearson online), and he gives u months to complete them. The test questions are basically identical to the homework and unlimited practice tests. He basically gives you the answer to the labs as well.
He makes you purchase program on Person and from there is just self learning. Homework is insane, will take hours to finish and there is always quiz at the end of the chapter. There are projects in the class randomly happening. I personally feel like he doesn't enjoy teaching at all so not sure why is he teaching.
He's honestly the worst math teacher I've ever had. I've always done well in math and even started this semester strong, but he never uses Canvas or email and refuses to adapt. He's old-fashioned, treats class like a university lecture (it's a community college), and expects us to learn everything on our own. He really needs to chill.
