Gutowsky is Hilarious. Eventhough he jokes around a lot, his teaching style is very effective. He expects a maximum effort out of his students so don't slack off. Stay up to date on assignments because the final month is INSANE!

Gutowsky is great. He makes a really boring subject interesting. Class is fun with his constant joking. There are one page papers due almost every class, but they're pretty easy. Just keep up with the work, and you'll do fine. Great teacher!

He was an interesting teacher. Class was fun to attend. He could be a little lame sometimes with his bad jokes. I don't think he gives out 100%'s on major essays though. He chose some crappy books to read though. But I cannot complain, he gave me an A in the class.

easy with lots of busy work. how hard can a teacher be who puts a Harry Potter book on his reading list. If you're looking for any easy class take this one. Show up and act like you are trying and you'll have no problem. He really does like the kids who get involved, it's the lazy ones who he'll seriously make fun of, sometimes to their face.

Really good teacher, really great reading. Once you take his class you will definately have a different way of looking at society. And he was probably the only teacher that could keep me awake at 6:30 in the morning. Oh and a warning, each semester he likes to pick on one student to bug every day, (in a joking but fun way) I was that student.

Professor Gutowsky RULES. We spent the whole semster anwsering the question of what is "rehtoric." You best not be late to class. You will work hard. the criculum calls to write 6,000 words, I wrote 24,000 words! I enjoyed being in his class everyday, he helped many hours after class so I could recieve a good grade. Write an essay, easy as pie now!

He is a very good teacher. He makes it clear of what he ecpects abd gets the whole class involved. I would deffinetly reccommend this teacher if you want to have a fun english class. I am now a better writer than I used to be.

I took him during the summer and eventhough YES he taught history throughout most his class it still tied very much into his teachings on crtical thinking but he was an absolute all around FUN teacher and kept the students wondering what he was gonna do next. I rather have that kind of teacher than a boring monotone one.I loved him and you will to.

I loved Gutowsky's class. I am a student who dreads writing English essays, and I still do, but the subjects and materials he used were captivating.The most importanat things you will learn in his class are to never accept what anyone says without questioning, and that the power of rhetoric is the power to rule the world.

amazing prof. at first a bit weird cus he kicked off his shoes but he was funny. made class relaxed and got everyone involved. main thing don't be late to his class, do your work, read the stuff most of the writing is your own opinion. lots of fun, extra credit and fieldtrips :-). Prof. had a great book list except for hadji murad I don't see him using it again. The bottled water project is important try to win the class competetion. I think in class participation was key.

He was a funny teacher. He expects students to be on time. He jokes around a lot, but that simply makes the day go by faster. I took him in the summer and all we talked about was rhetoric and historical dates. Make sure you know the dates for the final! He only repeats it like 100 times during the entire class section!

Very fun and interesting especially for an early morning class. Used glass discussion, small groups discussion, video, audio, handouts and other materials to aid instruction, which I liked. Attendance is important, and DON'T BE LATE! He'll make you fun of you. All semester this man hardly ever managed matching attire. Black belt w/ brown shoes?!

Gutowsky is QUITE a character, but it grows on you after a while. He's pretty rambunctious and does pick on people, but it's without malice. You'll be fine if you don't let him get to you. A pretty open-ended class with lots of discussion. Doesn't help much in terms of technical aspects of writing, though. I thought his class was way too easy.

Claims to be a stickler for attendance/being there on time... not so much. Jokes around during class. Lots of quizzes and little assignments, two real essays. Really easy.

Gutowsky was one of my favorite instructors. He made a 7:30 a.m. class fun. Attendence manditory. Only two essays, and mid-term based on the class reading. If you ever decide to take his class read the books and stories, (they are easy and really fast to read) come to class and do the quizes and I guarantee you will pass!

I think Gutowsky was a lot of fun! He really did make a 7:30 am class pretty interestingg. He's a funny guy and i think he teaches the material really well. It's not that hard of a class, you just have to try. I recommend him... you won't regret it!

Gutowsky's goofy sense of humor, occasional F-bomb, and eccentric style make for a totally unpredictable experience. Don't show up late, give him attitude,miss class randomly, or let him catch you slacking because he will call you out in front of your peers. Do your work and participate and it's a easy A.If you are sensitive take a different class.

Very funny. Doesn't really take sides in political issues, allows you to choose your side without fearing that he'll mark you down for it. Has quite a few wessays, but they're short and easy. Lots of reading but the books and such are interesting. The online portion stunk, don't take him for online classes!

Good teacher and serisouly easy class. Most of the papers are opinionated so really easy to write. Has you read interesting books and the quizzes are cake. But, DONT BE LATE. He kept me waiting outside for about 15 min once because he doesnt want to interrupt the class. But besides little things like that. Funny and creative. good/easy class.

I took this professor for two different classes. He really prepared me on what to expect at the college level for reports and essays. My writing is 100% better because of this professors. I had hit for a 6am class and with his hyper attitude the class was a breeze. I Highly recomend his classes.

Excellent teacher, if a bit eccentric. He likes to poke fun and make jokes, if you're too sensitive don't take his class. Otherwise, he teaches his subjects well and keeps them interesting.

Gutowsky is awesome. He seems to be on a permanent caffeine buzz, so he makes up for the energy you don't have on Friday mornings. You will be writing a lot (since this is a writing class) but the essays are easy and he always gives specific feedback. He is funny, flexible and really helps you learn the subject. Easy class.

gutowsky is awesome that being said he is a little crazy and hella funny. we were required to read 3 books and we wrote about all of them and some quizes very easy though. 3 in class essays and final paper were major assignments.splits up wrting so it is manageable no more than 5 pages for an assignment. great professor makes english fun.

This guy is loud, often misspells words, and sometimes takes off his shoes in class. But with that said, he's a must-have professor for English. He's funny and motivating, the book discussions are fun, the assignments are challenging but not insurmountable, and we got to watch movie trailers and clips from The Daily Show almost every class.

Took this course in 6 weeks. I am horrible at English, but managed an average B+ on all of my papers. Keep up with the reading and papers and do your work in his class and you'll do fine. I enjoyed all of the books he chose. He makes you critically think. (Had a slight student crush maybe that's why I did well lol).

His class is easy enough just quizzes everyday that he makes up as he goes. He asks over and over, who was the top significant author of the 20th century for example. So it is easy because he has some of the same questions that are repeated a lot. He assigns something new every class session and makes you redo the same paper too much over again

Ed is a very funny professor. He tries to pick subjects and books that are interesting and make you think too. I agree with the previous post about sitting father back in the class so you don't get spit on but aside from that. You will get a good grade if you actually read the books and show up to class. Easy grader + gives helpful suggestions

O boy prof gutowsky...THE BEST ENGLISH TEACHER EVER!!! Super funny and relaxed environment and somehow made English interesting to me (bio major and hated English since I could consciously think). He is very animated and incredibly willing to work with students. Only thin is you DO have to read the books due to weekly quizes which r easy A's if you even read half of the assignment. Easy A's on all papers as long as u meet page requirement and u PROOFREAD ur papers. Fave prof so far in 3 yrs!

I love his class! He is high energy and adorable. He is very fair, and doesn't expect you to be a supreme writer. Just try hard and read the books he assigns.

Mr G practically was bouncing off the walls in my summer class. He loves it. There was a buttload of reading, essays almost daily, and quizzes about the material and your opinion. He jokes a lot and picks on people, but is a nice enough guy. Incorporates videos, ads, and different material into his lectures which is cool. Beware: He does steal food

Best english prof I have taken. Lots of reading/writing. All books are needed for the class. Very informative class and interesting class. 3 hours always went by quick. Show up, do the readings, do the writings= A.... some of the readings are boring

TBH the first day of class I didn't know what to think, but as the semester went on I realized there is a method to his madness. I learned more in this class than probably any class at ARC. Great teacher!

I thought a seven in the morning class would be torture, but he kept a loud exciting voice that helped me stay awake. Another good thing is that he has great sense of humor which makes a three hour class speed by.

Gutowsky was pretty awesome. I took his 8:00am class at the Davis Center and he was pretty much the life of the classroom. He's really into the subject he teaches and always on coffee, so if you're looking for a morning class that will wake you up, he's the guy. However, beware of the reading and reading quizzes, because there is a lot.

Thank you Mr. Gutowsky for dispelling the old notion that english teachers are little old ladies who smell like attics. The classroom environment was always full of energy and laughs. This class requires a lot of time and hard work. I was worried about the first few papers but thanks to his detailed notes my grades steadily increased. Good luck.

You will read a lot and you will write a lot! Class starts right on time, with a quiz; if late, you're locked out until the 1st break and will miss a few questions. Also, he gives extra points for über-creative titles. The funnier, the better. All books are essential! Please don't have footballs drinking in your papers! He is a big Dutch Bros Fan.

Gutowsky is sarcastic in the best way possible and very clear about what he wants for his assignments, always posts on D2L and is quick to respond to emails. What he says, he means. Get ready for reading and quizzes on the readings you do.

Pretty funny guy. Quizzes almost DAILY. We read 4-5 books in 8 weeks, so hope you like to read. Assignments are very easy and his expectations are very straight forward. If you do the reading and meet the requirements of the assignment the class is very easy. If you don't do the reading you'll almost certainly fail.

I have taken Gutowsky's class twice now. He is clear and expectations are perfectly outlined. He is definitely a professor who expects college grade material, but is willing to teach you how to get there. His topics may seem controversial, but I think its in all good taste. Do take his comedy with a grain of salt, he seems an ass, but only an act.

Took him at 8am in the morning- he has an outgoing personality and WILL wake you up. Daily reading quizzes, so make sure you do the reading or you will not pass the quiz. He gives a lot of extra credit opportunities and is easy to talk to.

I cant say enough good things about Gutowsky. He has students read books about important issues: racism, feminism, North Korea, etc. You MUST READ all his books, however, they are worth the read! 3 in class essays, a few papers per book, and the final was cake. Highly recommended. Very funny and sarcastic but in a good way.

Gutowsky is incredibly engaging. 8am he's cracking jokes and giving pop quizzes. His pop quizzes seem to be his way of making sure you take notes and get credit for a class participation. The required reading were all really good books dealing with relevant topics. I hope to take another class with him again.

He's very loud & to the point! Don't be late or you will be standing outside the class for an extra 15 mins, he really dislikes late students,essay are easy. Based on the readings you do which are interesting. There is a quiz almost every class but if you read then they are easy, I have over 100% so far. No late work. Great overall. Likes to cuss.

Funny, engaging, fair grader, clear about what he wants and will help you get there. The class and reading materials are relevant and engaging. He's loud, all over the place, and entertaining. He keeps you listening, even if you're sitting with him over six hours a week. He's no b.s., and clear about it, so no excuses or you'll get an earful.

"Surprise quiz" every day but they're super easy, usually the questions are about something you just watched in class or were supposed to read. Essays aren't that bad, usually gives at least 2 weeks for each one. Funny guy good teacher.

Great guy, teaches the material well and makes it relatable. However, the class is very politically charged If youre looking for a class on how to compose an argument without digging into policy and race relations, this isnt the class for you.

He gives a surprise quiz every class they are incredibly simple - easy points. There were a lot of essays he assigned but he gives plenty of time. If you keep up with your reading and follow prompts closely, he is an easy grader. Plus, he has a sense of humor.

I was in his 3 hour once a week class. The time flew by with Gutowsky he makes class fun and interesting and jokes around with everyone. He learns everyone's names and is really nice. Gutowsky is a great professor. Funny professor that loves interacting with the class, and gives a lot of "surprise quizzes" almost everyday. They are mostly based on reading we've done, etc. It was a pretty fun class overall.

Everywhere you go everyone says that Gutowsky is a weird, but still everyone likes him. He has his own way of lecturing . The lectures are pretty easy. And He gives a looot of extra credit! I would definitely take his class again)

6 week online course, I found him to be a really easy grader. The workload is fairly heavy because the class is so condensed, but they dont take long to complete and he gives you a lot of options to choose from! We used every required text. Prioritize time to read and you will do great!

Professor Gutowsky has a heavy workload, like reading and writing, but it is easy. If you have graduated from high school recently and seen lots of serious professors, take him because he is like a high school teacher, but in college, I RECOMMEND HIM.

His class was very difficult, but it was definitely worth it. You will learn a lot of new stuff, especially how to write essays.

Gutowsky was one of the best professors I've had in my first year of college. If you're thinking about getting ENG300 with Gutowsky, do it!! but be prepared to read for sure. Essays usually started getting more difficult towards the end, but if you try you will pass. Overall, he is a funny guy and makes lectures fun you just gotta try your best.

This class is easy to pass as long as you show up and do the reading. Papers aren't extremely hard and he gives nice feedback. The class environment isn't too serious and makes being in the class more enjoyable. He makes lots of jokes and I'd recommend this class, I'm glad I chose it. One serious piece of advice, DONT be late to class.

Professor Gutowsky's class is challenging but rewarding. Though strict on attendance and assignments, his clear lectures and frequent quizzes make it manageable. unstuck ai was a lifesaver for prepping.
