Gutowsky is very entertaining and goofy. He keeps you on your feet and loves discussions.
even though we wrote many papers, he made it fun and interesting. He always took off his shoes and when he cursed i was always on the floor laughing..
He is one of the funniest teachers!!
Makes a class fun and understandable! Lots of essays but what do you expect in a writing class?
Interesting papers and lectures that had me coming back and not missing a single class. Helped me develop my writing style. Ed is halarious.
Prof Gutowsky is extremely energetic and interactive with his students. Class is not easy but very fun and will get the Gutowsky will help you get the most out of it. Highly recommended for any class!
Not one ill word to be said about Gutowsky. Funny, engaging, energetic and will work with you vs against you. Anyone with the chance to take his class should. He helped me improve my writing style as well as understanding of literature.
I had the most fun in this class!Took summer school last year, thought I was going to die of sleep deprivation since a paper was due every day..expected..summer school,I would highly recommend him,he teaches from a historical perspective. It was great, you'll love it. Just guard all water bottles!
Gutowsky is CRAZY!! You never know what to expect with this guy! He really has a passion for teaching! He is very loud, goofy, fun, and he spits a lot (don't sit in the front row, it's like sitting in the front row at the Shamu show). I really learned a lot about literature and finally understood Shakespeare.
Gutowsky is one of the best professors I've ever had. Academically, he shows a passion for education and puts a lot of time and effort into his curriculum. You will have to put a little work into the class, but you will also actually learn something. Socially, he's hilarious--you won't dread coming to his classes.
He really grated on me the wrong way, he was very annoying and I did not like his choice in text materials at all, I thought they were very poor. He's alright, but I would not reccomend him, Sierra has much better professors.
I liked him. He was great
Ed is an excellent instructor. Just be ready because he pics on students and his sense of humor is very "unique". His choices in text were EXCELLENT for today's society and the follow-up discussions were intelectual and thought provoking. Only 2 or 3 long papers (4 pages) and the rest were 1 page. If I needed to, I would glady take 1C.
The best teacher i had ever had. He was fun and interesting. Enough to make me excited to go to his class everyday!!!
I had Gutowsky a couple years ago for summer he was awesome. So funny and lets you explore english and rhetoric in different ways. he's hilarious and will make you laugh haha no one rated him as hot but i thought he was!

Great teacher! Would highly recommend taking him for any english class he teaches.
The guy was a jackass, but he was also one of the best professors I have ever worked with.
This guy is awesome, hands down. He's this really "revenge of the nerds" kind of guy who is just ridiculous, crazy, and fun :). I had 1A as a once a week 3 hr. class and I never wanted to leave. I hated it when we got out early. He has you do a lot of little assignments, but the class is worth it. He is one of the best teachers I have ever had!
Ed is a great teacher. Just dont ever call him Eddie. He is really fun and interesting. I took him for two classes on Sierra's study abroad program in France. He made me love English, I wish I would have taken him for my other English classes. Even if you are not an interactive student normally, do so in his class, it will be worth it.
Ed is such a great teacher and friend. He'll help you improve your writing and will teach you stuff you never thought you would learn in an English class. Take a class with Ed, you'll laugh the whole semester!
I took Ed for English 1A the semester before the trip to France. It is because of him that I changed my major and now am striving to become an English teacher. If there were more teachers like Ed Gutowsky I think the world would have much more laughter, fear, and ofcourse RHETORIC! A very fun teacher to take, he is clear, funny, and knowledgable.
Edward Gutowsky was one of the best teachers that I had at sierra College. He is fun and the class was totally entertaining.
Extreremly hard teacher to please, runs class as the ultimate dictator, no excuse. Don't ever anger, or outright challenge him, he'll make you pay woth your grade. No absences, or tardiness' allowed.
I really don't think it's professional to swear in class or yell and/or cuss at students. Gutowsky's pretty anal, especially about late students (if there was a principal's office in college he'd send you there).
He's really funny, drinks WAY too much coffee, hates late people and says "Fungowie" a little too much.
I loved Gutowsky! He knows what he's talking about and makes class fun. He has a great sense of humor (especially if you participate) and does exercises that are entertaining. You DO use the majority of books required for the class and leads discussions that clear up any confusing material I highly recommend him for 1B. =)
great teacher. he kinda assigns a lot of essays, but he makes everthing relative so it doesnt seem like its a lot of busy work. if you can take this guy. hes the only teacher that made learning entertaining
Gutowsky's teaching style is unparalled. Entertaining and quite humorous, yet all comes to full circle in an educational manner. I'm still marvaled at his delivery, how he makes such a lack-luster subject so interesting. Many essay assignments, but the class is awesome. I never looked at my watch once throughout the semester.
Not an easy A, must work for the grade, but fair. Could lecture all day and I wouldn't care... so funny. He keeps your attention and gets you to participate. Makes you think!! Best teacher I've ever had. Would suggest taking him to anyone. Also teaches at ARC.
Great teacher! Covers current events, history and Shakespeare, he does it all. Discussions are fun and crytsal clear. Makes you think. Work hard and you'll get an A. Loved him. Very funny and not bad on the eyes either
This guy is awesome! i took him over the summer (3hours, 3 days a week) and it was sooooo totally worth it. i was laughing hysterically during every class. He's a bit over the top, but hey, you really do learn a TON in this class! By far THE BEST ive had..
awesome teacher, however i'm currently reading three different books for his class.
A LOT of writing. There were a lot of pointless essays, but he is a really easy grader as long as you have a thesis, title, and did your works cited correct. Expect to have to actually do a lot of work. He has a very mean-spirited sense of humor, he can be pretty funny. Not a bad class, but not good. I got an A though.
Sickest teacher I've had since I enrolled at Sierra. Alot of writing and reading but it pays off. I look forward to clas everyday. He is very funny and I would recommend taking him if you would like to have a real fun class and learn alot.
One of the best teachers I've had this semester. Not boring at all.Grades pretty easy, but he does give out A LOT of essays. He's hilarious and keeps you interested throughout the class.I looked forward to his class everyday even though it was at 8am.
He's a funny guy and keeps class fun, but he gives out more essays, reading, and homework then probably all of your classes combined. He's a pretty tough grader and can be a prick from time to time.
Crazy Teacher! Do not sit on the front row, because he spits when he talks, drinks from students soda's, and kicks his shoes off during class. Tons of essays, boring reading, and will mock you if you are late to class. He is very entertaining and the bottled water project was fun. Do not take him if you are serious about English.
How could you not take gutowsky? If you want to learn, learn, learn, take him!
He has the greatest rear you have ever seen. He looks like Chewbacca shaved down. Ask him about his wild escapades at the "massage parlors" and he'll love you! Ed rocks!
Recommended. I want to take him for my 1B and 1C (hope he?ll be teaching next semester). His lectures are very interesting. Gives tons of reading. One thing that was crazy that he was grabbing some snacks from his students without even asking, so be aware to either share or hide your food.
Gutowsky definately keeps class interesting and fun. He shows alot of movie clips and compares it took books that you will read! he kicks off his shoes during class and also burps during class. He will steal your food if u set it on ur desk. Dont be late or he will stare you down. I would definately recommend taking his class.
Wow...How to describe Mr. Gutowsky? He DOES kick his shoes off, he DOES eat your food, and he WILL text people for you if you get caught. Probably the best teacher I ever had. Be prepared to laugh and watch cool movies. Do not be late. Willing to work with you. Lots and lots of writing and lots of quizzes.
He is a good teacher, but prepare to do work. You will actually learn something, and the work itself isn't to challenging, it's the amount he assigns. I had to buy 6 books for the class, and ended up dropping because I work full time and had other classes that required homework. Didn't have enough time to do his easy, but massive amount of work.
I love Gutowsky! He made English interesting and fun. He will make fun of you, so prepare some thick skin! He's funny and will admit when he's wrong as a professor (never see that one!) I recommend him for any English class. Be prepared to read and show up to class!
Gutowsky is great! I was very nervous about my writing skills before I took his class. He helped me become a better writer. He is especially helpful when it comes to writing college papers. You get to read some fantastic books in his class. I would like to take him for 1B. If you want to laugh while you learn, Gutowsky is the teacher for you!
Gutowsky is the man! He will make fun of you, but he will also help those of you who CANNOT WRITE FOR THE LIFE OF IT! Take him, you'll crack up
I have really learned alot from Professor Gutowsky's class. It has been one of the best classes I've taken at Sierra. He makes English really interesting!
Great teacher. He really likes his job and that made it great for me. Lots of quizzes, reading and writing but it was truly worth it.He keeps up with new things and brings current events which makes it easier to relate to.
Gutowsky is a passionate about his lesson plans, but he will NOT help you out with anything on the side. Very unapproachable, but funny when in class. He's a ****- in a good way.
As far as teaching goes he is okay, but absolutely unprofessional. Burping in class, kicking his shoes at the door & talking non-stop even when you take a test or final. If you want to concentrate DO NOT take this class. I can't believe someone at Sierra hasn't made him clean up his act. If I knew then what I know now I would have steered clear
I took Gutowsky for 1A and 1B. Both classes were fun and interesting. His teaching style is not professional, but he is passionate about literature and that's what counts. He really encourages students to participate and wants everyone to do well. Speak up in class and show up on time and he will like you. I'd take him again if possible.
He has quirks and very aggressive teaching style-I think it works really well if you let it. He challenges students and if you speak up in class and participate you'll do great. Don't argue with him or be the troublemaker! Quizzes are completely random and graded subjectively. Hardest part are in-class writes and papers. Overall amazing class
Great teacher expect lot of reading and writing.
Prior to attending class, I was excited. I heard good things. BUT, I was failed TWICE by this guy. NOT because I didnt do the work (I did), but because I took a different opinion as him. He seems to obsess over existentialism. I didnt like it, I didnt agree. It made me uncomfortable. Instead of making a comfortable environment, he fails.
Gutowsky is awesome. I'm currently in his class and if you do the work & make an effort, you'll do fine. Existentialism is a topic we cover, and it is talked about a lot, but it is obvious that Gutowsky uses repetition to teach certain topics that would otherwise be very tedious to memorize. I would recommend, and I would take again. Great teacher.
honestly Gutowsky is one of the best english professors on campus. He makes you read two novels and two shakespeare plays but it is really easy. You only have four big papers to do and small write-ups here and there. Make somewhat of an effort in class and you will easily do good. Funny guy just know he HATES late students more then anything!
He was easy to understand, helpful, and humorous. He will push buttons, but it's all in good fun. Gutowsky truly does have a passion for what he teaches. DON'T BE LATE. And have fun :)
He has such a passion for teaching he spits. He expects you to turn in your papers proofread, which will result in a 90/100. He gives quizes that take the whole class which makes the time spent with him go too fast. The only downside is he is a fervent liberal. :(
took him for an evening 1B class, awesome. awesome. funny guy. keeps it interesting. good memories, i miss you gutowsky, even when you didnt let me take quiz cause i was late. your funny. hilarious. good reading too.
The most enthusiastic teacher I've ever had. I thoroughly enjoyed his class, and actually looked forward to class. I hated English before, but he makes it very interesting. Expect a lot of reading and papers to write, but if you simply read and turn papers in on time, you will pass his class. He is not your classic teacher, but he is a great one.
My favorite Professor of all time. English has always been my favorite subject and Gutowsky has made it even more enjoyable. He is very Passionate and knowledgeable about what he teaches and has a way of making one look forward to a 3 hour English course. Highly recommend!
I Like English, but this teacher is very hard.
Gutowsky's enthusiasm and loud voice keep the class interesting. However, he is subtly very about himself; he loves to talk and give his own opinion, even cuts other people off. All we ever did was "give our reaction and five themes" to everything we read/watched. Fun class, but my writing didn't improve at all. Figure out his game, super easy A.
Dont be late
Class is interesting and unique. A lot of group discussions about various texts related to class. Professor is passionate about teaching with a great sense of humor. Keep students engaged. Definetly recommend this class. He has traveled and lead study abroad classes.
Great professor. You have to be punctual for class and for homework. Be prepared to read, to discuss and to write a lot. You will never get bored in this class
Gutowsky is a total goofball. He tries to choose entertaining books to read for class (and succeeds) and his class periods are never a bore. I am an English major so it's always interesting to me, but the rest of the class is involved as well. I strongly recommend him.
Lots of work. I followed wrong prompt on 1st big essay and got a 0. Some of us were late to class once & he wouldnt accept our papers due that day-0/100 again. Was ALWAYS busy @ office hours, no xcred, no absences. Gutowsky IS an amazing teacher, exciting coursework & I recommend him - just be prepared to not have any fckups - no leeway.
Fantastic teacher. Keeps the class entertained and there's never a dull moment. The first day he will try to scare you off but he is fun. He does assign a lot to read, most are short stories but some novels. Loved his choices! Overall be prepared to read a lot and write your "Reaction and Theme," which is not difficult. Fun class recommend him :)
Ed is a great teacher. Funny and will call a spade a spade. Don't take offense if he calls you out on something, you probably deserved it. I recommend him to everyone.
I think Gutowsky is a great teacher. He has real passion for teaching and its very rare to see. He really gets you to think on a different level. A lot of work but I look forward to it. He has an interesting sense of humor and tactics for teaching, he gives back to his students a lot. I am impressed with his teaching. Work hard and you'll do well!
This guy was FANTASTIC! Easy grader! He is so funny and he is the easiest teacher I have ever had! TAKE HIS CLASS! As long as you do the reading you will get an A! TAKE TAKE TAKE TAKE TAKE TAKE HIS CLASS! YOU WONT REGRET IT!! AMAZING TEACHER!!!!!
He is an Awesome Professor! Had him over the Summer for 8 weeks. Provided a syllabus, but didn't follow it strictly on material covered. Get the textbook, you use it in class. Bring your A-Game. Follow policies. Read. Not the easiest, but then again college level work never is. If it is, you're doing it wrong. Heed the comments on papers!
Awesome professor! His class is one of my favorite classes I've taken at Sierra. He keeps class fun & entertaining, & he picks interesting literature for his classes to read. AS long as you do all your reading this class is very easy.
I LOVE Gutowsky! I tell all of my friends to take him because he is amazing. I took him for 1A and 1B, wish I had more English to take just so I could take his class. He makes class fun! Yes, you WILL do work and attendance is mandatory. Welcome to college. Gutowsky is witty, hilarious but definitely knows his stuff. TAKE HIM!
He's great professor! He has quizzes every day, so be sure you're ready for those. Nothing too hard though. Make sure you read the novels you are assigned! He asks questions on the quiz about the novels. He grades pretty decent on essays, just write well and you should be fine.
Professor Gutowsky was immature and annoying. It seemed to me like he treated students like how he THINKS young adults want to be treated... which in is a biased way to communicate. He would cuss and be rowdy in front of the class just to make people laugh. Unintelligent, which doesn't inspire me. I did enjoy the book selection & relevant videos!
Such a great teacher!!! I had him for 1A and 1B and I absolutely love him!!!
Ed was an awesome teacher. I am someone that struggles with English as it is my second language and I was able to pass his 1B with an A. He's a great teacher and really gets you thinking in a different way. If you do the reading he assigns you will most definitely pass the class with flying colors.
Gutowsky is an awesome professor! He is passionate about English and will keep you awake in 7:30am classes. He is not bad on the eyes either. I got a little jealous when he announced he was getting married. If you do the work, you will get an A.
Hands down the best English teacher I have had all my life. Really helps you out if you are struggling. His pop quizzes are easy, I don't know how people don't pass them. ENGLISH1A,1B,1C students you gotta take Gutowsky! You'll actually learn something instead of running tons of textbooks and learning nothing.
Good professor. Easy grader and its pretty funny. Very passionate about literature and assigns interesting books to read.
He's a really funny guy, enjoyable to learn from. I highly recommend him.
Gutowsky is a bit unconventional. His very impulsive, unpredictable and comically-entertaining personality makes for a very interesting learning experience, one that is not only effective but even inspirational, at least in my case. The books he assigns are always a great pleasure to read and his grading and feedback is fair and helpful. Take him!
Honestly one of the best professors I have ever had. He can be sarcastic and funny. If you come to his class everyday you will pass with an easy A. The assignments and papers are not hard at all. Each class is entertaining. A very understanding and helpful teacher. Just don't be lazy or slack off and you will do fine and he will love you.
He is a harsh grader. I have all A's in all my other classes his i got an F. I put in the same amount of effort that i did for my other classes and did most of the hw maybe 20 ponts of in class work i didnt do. Went to class every day. He says he will get you ready for finals and such he never does. Every class day there is a quize. Dont take him.
I wanted to like this class. However, giving me an 'F' on an essay because he "did not like the paper at all" was ridiculous. If I'm not going to receive any points on an assignment I actually worked on then why am I wasting my time? He swears in class, but is adamant about not swearing in a 'college paper'. Hypocrite. I'll take McFadden instead.
I have nothing good to say about him. He uses profanity in class and embarrasses the hell out of students. If you are a weaker student he will be sure to call you out on it. He did not input one of my many essay grades which brought my grade to a B. I proved I had it and it was fixed to an A. Keep all work!!! I do not recommend him to anyone!
Gutowsky is the best professor I've ever had! He's hilarious, keeps the class interesting and engaged. He gives quizzes every week but they're easy. He assigns a few books to read, to be prepared to read! Overall, he gave me an A on all my essays. If you put in effort, you'll get a good grade.
Gutowsky was by far my best English teacher here at Sierra! He is very sarcastic and likes to tease people a lot which was very entertaining. He is also very understanding and accepts late work. You get extra credit if you come up with a creative title. Lots of surprise quizzes but are extremely easy. Longest essay you will ever write is 3 pages.
Really funny teacher, but mostly assigns a lot of papers and reading and you do a lot of the learning on your own. Gives good feedback, but isn't very accessible. Was very lenient in grading, but really piled on a lot of work.
I have never really enjoyed English classes before I took Gutowsky's class. He is hilarious and makes the class speed by. He does assign a lot of papers, but they are all short. Proof-read your papers and give it a creative title and you will pass. He does a lot of his teaching by showing video clips so just BEWARE OF PART 4!
Not clear with explanation of assignments and does not teach how to write, you will need the writing center for that. Moods are intense and unpredictable. Assigns quite a lot of homework. I would not take him again, nor recommend his class to anyone else.
If you take this class get ready for many class discussions. This guy is hilarious! He is hilarious and cracks so many jokes but gets serious when he has to be. Whatever you do don't be late, and show up to each class. You'll read alot and quizzed on the material every class. You'll be okay if you read the material and turn in the hw.
One of the funniest professors I have ever taken at Sierra! The reading may seem like a lot but its on interesting subjects! Quizzes everyday so make sure to read! 1 fun group project at the end of the semester. I would highly recommend taking professor Gutowsky's class!
By far one of my favorite English teachers through my school career. He's definitely a character, but his personality keeps the class engaging and a lot of fun. You'll have plenty of time to get all the assignments done, and generally he just wants you to write a good paper. I'd definitely take his class again!
Prof Gutowsky can seem a little bit crazy at first, but he really just has a pretty energetic personality and teaching style. Almost every day he gave a "quiz" which was more to help students to get better at thinking about rhetoric and persuasion and how to better articulate ourselves. Every quiz is basically a guaranteed A. Lots of short papers.
Gives lots of essays... dont be late or he will pick on you and take this class in the morning if you want to be woken up because he talks really loud.. the books are interesting and there essays every two weeks and a quiz in class every time
He is a great professor. You definitely have to do the essays. He is understanding but not for thin skinned people. He will call you out of you walk in late. So do not be late. Overall a fantastic professor.
Rock star English Professor. Never a dull moment in this man's classroom. It's all about the discussion and he is very receptive and open-minded to everyone's opinions. Don't be a disrespectful student and he won't treat you with disrespect. Great place to talk about and learn English literature.
This class is not for the easily offended. Gutowsky is loud, says what's on his mind, and is not afraid to call people out; it's very refreshing! He assigns 2-3 page essays very often and there is a lot of reading. Overall, if you show up ON TIME, do the work, and treat him with respect, you will enjoy this class very much. Thanks Gutowsky!BP
He's a fine teacher, you write A LOT in his 1C class, usually one 2-3 page paper a week once you get into the swing of the class. You read a good bit too but his selections are phenomenal and he makes sure you know everything you need to for the final. No midterm, no pop quizzes. You take a 'quiz' every day but it's really just like lecture notes.
Its more like a political class instead of an English class. Alot of pop quizzes and very bipolar. I DIDNT learn a thing except for rhetoric.
You know those profs who wait the LAST minute to put things in the gradebook, well that's him. I had to resubmit papers that were given a 0 in the gradebook, when they were turned in on time. Highly disappointed.
easy & entertaining. I took him at 8am and can say that I was not falling asleep. every class you have a "quiz", but really it's just extra points to your grade as long as you do the reading. The essays can be a bit tough but he is very understanding and a easy grader. Main topic was Redoric & fallacies, and was actually interesting to learn about
I didn't feel challenged in this course. This was like repeating English 1A. Nearly everyone averages 100% in his class. He teaches in an unusual way. He also swears. If you like reading sexually explicit books, sign up for his class.
I took Gutowsky for 1A and I can say that I am not disappointed. Usually, I hate English class but Gutowsky knows how to keep things interesting. He is a very unique guy which makes his class even better. You write a couple essays but as long as you meet his page requirements, you should be fine. Easy A, just show up and do your work.. not hard
Funny guy, never missed a class.
What a character! He had to focus on formatting and basic paper structure, and while it was tedious he made it interesting. He uses pop culture references and really relates to his students. All in all he is personable and informative. Lots of reading and not always interesting in content. His pop quizzes happen every class so dont worry.
Hes probably the one of the best English professors and his classes are easy As (unless you dont show up or dont do work). He makes you enjoy class no matter how bad of a day youre having, and its hard to fall asleep or stop paying attention. Hes hilarious and reminds me of Will Ferrell. I highly recommend taking his class if you want an A.
Gutowsky is one of my favorite professors at Sierra College. His lectures are interesting and quirky. Everyday there is a "surprise quiz" which is really his way of asking us our response and reaction to the text or videos. He gives multiple options for writing prompts and always gives great feedback. Take as many of his classes as you can!
Took this in the afternoon usually I get sleep during afternoon classes but there was not any snooze fests while taking this English class! He is hilarious! He is a caring teacher despite his crazy front lol! He is also a great teacher! Uses current day events to help teach the course. He uses quizzes to make us take notes and get points for it.
Gutowsky is one of the stranger professors I've had at Sierra, but he's a greatone. Gives you relevant to date content and very class has a pop quiz about the reading or some video he shows. He talks a lot about Bobby Kennedy and rhetoric-interesting stuff. I'd take him again in a heartbeat.
Prof Gutowsky comes off harsh, but he's incredibly good-natured and amicable. He does have a habit of teasing students, but if you feel picked on, he's understanding and will refrain. He's repetitive in his teaching, which helps the majority of students. He does assign an excessive amount of essays, but it's an easy class to pass if you read.
Best professor I've ever had
Lots of papers for sure!! But they're doable, never difficult. He has a set of rules for his papers and as long as you follow them you should be fine. He's funny, which makes time fly by in that class. Interactive course, so you're never just stuck listening for an 1.20 min.
It felt like there was an essay due every single class, nothing too hard though just a lot. He grades fairly easy in my opinion, as I never read a book and have a decent grade. He is a funny guy, although personally i think he'd go a little too far sometimes. He jokingly picking on students, so be prepared to be called out in front of the class....
He's funny, maybe a little too funny and edgy with some of his jokes and comments but I enjoyed his class. Easy A. Follow his instructions and there's no reason to fail.
Edward is a teacher that requires your attention and a good work ethic. He truly cares about his students and his field. I nearly left his class the first day and I'm so glad I stayed. He's a great teacher.
Professor Gutowsky was one of my favorite classes I took at Sierra. He really got me interested and engaged in the subject. His class requires a lot of participation and discussion. He focuses on learning rather than getting a grade. Go to class and do your work and you shouldn't have an issue with getting the grade you want/need.
Cannot recommend this professor enough. Lectures are hilarious, engaging, and easy to follow along with. Makes the class very palatable, cares about student success, gives great feedback, is very reasonable, lots of extra credit. Lost of reading and homework, but never too hard or too much. Makes English so much more interesting and enjoyable.
1C with Gutowsky was a pleasure. He keeps you engaged in lectures and even throws in some humor (NO POWERPOINT TOO!). It's undeniable that he loves teaching the English curriculum. First English course I actually enjoyed my entire educational life. Lots of 2-4 page essays but are relatively easy. Recommend to anyone!
Gutowsky was awesome! He was always looking for student feedback and actually cares about his students. I took 2 of his courses, the second one I didnt actually need the credits for I just wanted to take a class with him again. Really good feedback on papers, with small mistakes he typically still gives a good grade still & shows you how to improve
Gutowsky had to be the funniest teacher I have had. I had him before the pandemic and that was my favorite class to go to. He assigns books to read throughout the semester and assigns them by chapter so just rent the books early on so youre prepared and actually read them. Good amount of essays, class was always fun. Definitely a must take!
Dude is an absolute classic. Just show up, listen, and do your homework and it's an easy A. I wrote all my essays in 20 minutes right before class and I got a 99 on all of them.
Gutowsky is awesome. I took him for 2 semesters and hes one of the best english teachers Ive ever had. Show up for class, do your reading, and participate and you will ace it. There is usually an essay for every book read. you read 3-4 books per semester. He gives great feedback and is hilarious. Definitely take him if you can :)
This class was honestly a waste of my time. Gutowsky gives you tons of busy work (discussion boards, pointless assignments, etc.) It felt like I didn't learn anything. He focuses on all the wrong things when grading (like titles instead of content). As a person he's pretty funny and nice, but at least for online classes he's an awful teacher.
Gutowsky is a really good teacher who provides excellent feedback and is an easy grader, however the workload is heavy, you will have to write a one-page essay every week but as long as you are not a procrastinator like me you should be just fine. IC class is very heavy on LOTS of reading and writing
Love him! Hes absolutely student friendly and understanding. Guys take him and just be honest in your essays and dont copy, youll always grt credit for your thinking skills here.
Professor Gutowsky has very easy assignments and allows late work when requested, but he does NOT give a reading schedule and expects you to read 200 pages in a week and have a quiz soon after that. He also goes back and forth between novels, which made it difficult to differentiate the 3 books we were reading at the same time.
Ed is a very pleasant instructor and puts effort into making his class interesting. 1C isn't considered an easy course, but Ed makes sure you understand the content. He has quite useful feedback on essays and quizzes, so I recommend reading it. Ed wants you to pass and will provide you with multiple extra credit opportunities.
This professor brings a lot of enthusiasm to class.. but can talk for very long periods of time without engaging with students properly. Most of the assignments were very simple to complete. Beware of essay grading (he takes off large amounts of points for small, silly errors) If you get the chance to revise an essay focus on what he commented on.
This Professor was very nice and an easy grader. As long as you do the work, this class is an easy A. Additionally, his feedback was very helpful and he was very funny. The quizzes were extremely easy as long as you read, however, no late work is allowed.
I took his eight week English 1B class and I found the course to be very easy. He assigns work on Sundays and they are all due on Friday, so you have the week to get the work done. He is super funny and finds ways to incorporate his humor into some of the assignments. There are weekly one page essays that are easy with lots of feedback as well.
Professor Gutowsky can be hit or miss - lots of busy work, but he's pretty approachable. Try using unstuck AI and the textbook to stay on top of the reading and assignments.
(8 week OL) Gutowsky is hilarious and approachable. He assigned a lot of essays and reading but gave amazing feedback and was honest which helped me improve. His directions are slightly unclear at times but he is very responsive if you shoot him an email. This course was definitely homework heavy but he didn't have any tests, only papers and essays
It's an easy A. I took his 8 week, and you have one essay due at the end of every week (usually 1 page), worth 5 pts. Super simple. We read two books, which you can find free PDFs of online. Each book requires an essay, but they are also simple (2-3 pages these are worth 100), you just analyze the themes you find in the books. Spent abt 1-2hrs/wk
(8 Week Course) This is by far the best English class I have taken in college. I really liked Professor Gutowsky. It is very clear that he puts a lot effort into his class and takes time to review students work. Here is a few bullets about him: - Easy grader (admits it himself) - Great feedback - Good choice in reading - AI detector - Weekly Essays
Chill class. Weekly 1-page essays worth 5pts. He grades meticulously, looks for small errors. Leaves a dozen comments on every assignment, which is fine, at least he cares. Very reading-heavy, good amount of poems, and a required book. Important to stay on top of reading, as he gives chapter quizzes. 2- 3 hrs/week workload. In all, a good class.
Dry humor, tough grader, when he leaves comments on your work he uses words to put your work down. Feels like he attacks more than helpful.
Very easy class if you complete the work. A couple books to read, quizzes on the book, and a discussion board was all the online class really was. He's super relaxed with grading, I get full credit on pretty much everything. Watch deadlines though, there's some in the middle of the week that I forgot about.
Ed Gutowsky is a great professor who cares and give detailed feedback that helped me improve my writing. The books were actually interesting, and while there's a short paper due most weeks, it's manageable if you put in effort. Highly recommend!
He comes up with multiple excuses why he can't grade time sensitive material on time, then proceeds to make every essay worth 100 points but every other assignment is worth 5 to 10 points, so even if you do everything he asks in the class but don't get a good grade on the essays you will fail, and you won't know until its too late to drop.
(8 week 1B) He's lovely. Workload is atrocious, 2 papers a week. We read 3+ stories a week while also reading a book and answer text questions on each, not multiple choice. 2 DBs and filler assignments on top of it. Expect 13-20 assignments a week. Update: he extended our course and told us to email him our final. Grade is completely unknown.
