He sucks
He's a tough teacher but he REALLY knows what he's talking about. It's not an "easy A" class, but if you pay attention and do all the work you will do fine a learn A LOT!
He knows the subject well but, he doesn't allow students to have any lab time. He also talks too much!.Also, during his class I noticed he discriminate women, when a man ask him something he's very helpful but, when women ask him he doesn't spent the same time and quality.
You can't get anything done in class. He always control the computers!! He also make **** comments to women. I made the right decisionin withdrawing from his class. My advice: Women you don't have to put up with that!! so think about it twice.
in the 3 times i showed up for class he was nonstop talk. i'm used to hands on with projects from day one. to me he wasn't effective, so i withdrew.
The worst I ever had, has the worst ego. Highly unprofessional, very unhelpful and imposible to talk to or get help. Treats students like they are all idiots.
Make sure you have the time to complete the heavy load of homework. Also, he is very bad with communication (responding to emails), especially if you are taking an online class.
I feel Pretty good about this teacher. His Design Style may be dated but he knows the technical information and makes sure you understand, if you speak up and let him know your struggling. I look forward to taking a few more classes with him.
Poor online instructor. He a little better in person, but not by much. Comes off as scattered brained and disorganized. He grades a little harshly. I agree about the comments made about him regarding women. There were a few times I saw it happen in class. He needs to watch it or someone will call him out on it.
I'm taking a distance ed (online) section... This has been the most frustrating experience ever! A week before finals and we have been given NO grades or feedback on projects. He does not respond to emails or the discussion board questions. Also, links on the website have been broken for MONTHS! (very bad for an online class!)
There is a lot of homework with projects and reading. As for the online class you must make an effort to get your work graded or you can find your self at semester's end with zero knowledge of where you stand. Final exam and final project(s) are worth most of your grade.
You basically follow the book and do all of it's exercises in the online class. He's not timely in his responding to your questions and for most of the semester needed links such as the calendar or submission links were down. Not good being a web design teacher. You will not receive any grades for the semester until the during the final exam.
I've had a great career that wouldn't have happened without Ed Kanet. He's hard, but if you put the time in, pay attention, and do the work, you'll have skills you wouldn't get from taking a class with an easy instructor. More skills = More opportunites, better jobs, and more money.
Online class...This teacher is no help AT ALL. Nothing was graded and there is absolutely no contact with the teacher, so you don't know if you're on the right track or not. Worthless and waste of time, if you're going to attempt to take a class with this guy, might as well do an on campus class that way you know your work is being checked.
Well the assignments are tough and will make you better, like all of his classes. Problem is you will teach yourself (online anyway). You will have zero feedback on a semester's work until your final exam. Then you find out how all your work stands up. Have had him for multiple online courses (no choice) and that assessment stands.
i didnt like this class at all. he was always all over the place and when asked for help recieved none!
I took his online class and he is TERRIBLE! If you have the option to take another instructor besides Kanet don't hesitate to do so. You'll save yourself a lot of stress. He doesn't reply to your mail, he doesn't explain work very well, his WebCT setup is VERY UNORGANIZED, he sucks at updating grades and enabling quizzes.
Same comment from the one below applies to this class too. To add another note.. My grades weren't updated til a few days before the final and it was already too late to do anything about my grade. I was already in the process of failing...
He was the WORST teacher I've ever had. Not organized, was constantly adding things as the class went along, very slow to respond and just not easy to follow. At some point I wanted to drop the class and he has yet to get back to me about the request. If you can handle 0 organization and constant changes to the content good luck.
UGH! I hated him. He critized EVERY little detail. He was very hard and he said that 'he was the god in computers'. I told him there was a problem with some links on his website and he said "doubtful". What a joke! But, I have to add that if he was an easy professor I wouldnt gave my best. He didnt gave me an 'A', I earned!
This guy is a real dipshit! The grade i recieved was BS. The projects he gives out do not make sense and he changes the guidlines all the time, even a day or two before its due, so if you already have it done you are screwed. This guy is a geek whithout the brains and should not be a teacher. Worst teacher i ever had!!!!
Well yea his class was hard but i passed. You have to know your work. I got the grade that i expected which was a C.
He's hard to understand, throws out too much knowledge which may be overwhelming to some people (unorganized.) Kanet is someone you'd expect to meet at a real work place and will judge you harshly. He's very cocky too. He tries to be funny but he never makes me laugh.. Mumbles too much and his lectures sometimes go to another topic.
Besides agreeing with all the negative comments. One only has to look at the garbage work he himself puts out. Look at the CG website, I would be embarrassed, if it were me. Actually, I don't think he is fit to critique me, though I certainly could offer him some pointers.
Most people evicted from their apartments make extremely negative comments about their apartments. Because they're imbeciles. This class has opened my eyes about typography and has taught me a lot. Kanet is a bit odd but is the best professor I've had at CSN. He tends to be very critical when checking work. It's ok to give positive feedback.

I really loved Kanet's classes, even though I am retaking one of them. He is fair, challenging, and lectures are really cool. I've never spoken more than 25 words to him ever, and this guy was straight up with me. He really isn't tough, but their is quite a bit of work for a beginner. Two thumbs up.
Kanet isn't nearly as bad as some people say. I took 101 and 104 with him at the same time which actually turned out to be a big mistake when all the huge amounts of work for the final projects came along. He's very helpful but his lectures are weird and he gives way too much work for beginners. I would recommend taking his classes one at a time.
This was the most disorganized and difficult class I've taken at CSN; however, it was also the most beneficial. Way too many projects, and he grades harshly! I am an "A" student, and even though I put in a tremendous amount of effort, I recieved a B+. This was the worst and best class I've ever taken, and I am 40yrs old with over 120 credits.
He is without a doubt the worst teacher i've ever had. He is very judgmental, when he lectures he tends to talk of topic and all over the place, so it is hard to follow him. He does not have very good design skills. He does know his typography although he is very cocky and not helpful. I passed with an A, I just don't care for him as a professor.
So, taking GRC 101 and 104 is the biggest mistake anyone can make. I took Organic Chemistry and Kanets classes' difficulty are the same level. The amount of time you put into ALL of his projects are ridiculous! People can simply say, "Hey, welcome to college." They are wrong, this is freaking GRC 101 not a 400 level class!!
Bad teacher, talks way to much, grades very harshly, but does let you redo assignments. Way to much homework for a 101 class. And he expects you to look lots of stuff online even if you taking a campus class. Also don't waste your money on the book, i've never used it. I opened it once for help on the quiz nothing was in the book BAD TEACHER!
Im currently enrolled in his class (which is also a online class as well...) and this guy is something ridiculous, he speaks as if everyone already understands what he speaks as if its not an entry level graphics class. The work he hands out is demanding although i find it hard to believe that its not scrap booking. Dont waste waste your time.
THis professor is frustrating. He gives you last minute work that is impossible to finish. Very disorganized. You better have a thick hide because he is unmerciful in his critiques. He tears you to shreds and made me feel like I want to quit. You can be doing great then get a terrible grade in the end. Pass on this one.
This professor is really....interesting. He means well in the work he gives you but he is very unorganized, is consistently late, and doesn't really answer your questions. He makes condescending remarks and is constantly going off on random tangents. Very poor quality teacher.
Going into this, I thought it was going to be an easy class since it's a 101 but oh boy was a completely wrong. The things that he teaches he expects right off the bat for one to understand and if one doesn't he thinks that yelling at that person makes it easier to understand. His instructions on assignments are vague and then he expects perfection
Sample Book is a horrific semester long project. It's very tedious and hard. It requires you to find samples of printed work, samples of different inks, paper, etc. So much work to keep up with. Dates change all the time, directions are vague&he isn't that great about answering e-mails within 24 hrs.Stressful class!I don't know how I received a B-.
He is very hot and cold one day he is fine the next day he makes you feel like crap.I will not use him again. He never post the week on time then wants you to design things in 2 days. his quize's suck they make you go crazy asing off the wall questions nothing on any thing we are working on. FIND A DIFFERENT CLASS
Unorganized, unclear, and unhelpful. The only time you learn something new is when he's proving you wrong in discussion. He stresses the importance of communication but is awkward, rude, and constantly interrupts. Rarely answers questions, but when he does, they're long, drawn out, vague, repetitive, and unsatisfactory. Unreasonable expectations.
Lesson plan is confusing, doesn't answer questions, very snappy. Just can't recommend this class. He seemed a bit upset that we did not read the material before attending the live lesson, even though according to the lesson plan we were to attend the lesson first.
Doesn't know what he's doing, for all I know he might as well be teaching from a book from the vague statements he makes.DO NOT TAKE.
Very confusing from the syllabus to lessons. I have a lot of prior experience in graphic design and he misses the important aspects of what to study. I don't think his ideas are modern. He taught illustration and typography from the 1970's. He didn't even answer questions clearly. I am 40 and I was completely confused by his lessons.
Truly a good person but the class itself lacks some structure, it is a 101 with a 400 level workload but has valuable information. If taking online, the group project requires a great deal of time meeting with classmates so bare in mind if you're looking to score a good grade. However, he is understanding and wants his students to be successful.
It is useless for knowledge and every example that he showed in the class is very bad idea. i think he lacks of design skill.
He does not have a clue on what his is doing half the time. He can not keep his classes straight on what he tells them. This is not an online class. do not take this class on line and think you will pass, must take at the college. Teaches his online students like we go to the school thinking we can just drop life and go have 23 team meetings...
The professor's online class felt like a rushed in-class session, and I had to strain to hear him. I'm close to finishing my degree, so I have most of the know-how under my belt already. Take the class near the end of your educational career, it acts as a review and tests your mettle with a real client. Good luck!
He was wonderful at answering questions with such attention to resolving your issues. He had exciting work for the class like doing designs for real companies with other students. Learn photoshop or indesign first before taking this class. Fast pace! They are extremely useful and you can pass just watching the videos with doing all assignments.
Terrible communication. Unclear. Condescending. Very frustrating. You need to have a lot of patience. He talks in circles and will contradict himself often. Good luck.
He likes to talk. No doubt about it. If you go up to him and ask him about a grade or to take a look at your project you will be standing there for about an hour talking to him so be prepared. If you do all the work you will be ok. He does allow you to redo your work if needed for a better grade. He's not that bad just do your work thats all.
He is perfectionist. It is not easy to get a good grade. With his las criticism and ideas I got from him class I was able to develop a multimedia training called "My US Naturalization". I think this is the finest job I have developed. I put some demos on YouTube. (in google type: naturalization training)
First of all I don't know how this guy is a graphics professor. Doesn't answer your direct questions and runs around them and talking about other things for the sake of you know (talking and hearing himself talk). He is super unorganized with his instructions and online. Forgetful and overall just hypocritical since he stresses good communication.
Overall the class was a necessary evil, but as a Student this class has to be the worst educational experience I have had. From lack of communication, to disorganization. Feedback is not instructive, endless sporadic lectures, hard to extract simple answers, inconclusive, workload is excessive considering the lack of direction there is. No good.
He may be vague at times, but he truly wants to help. It is true that there is a TON of work for being a beginning level class, but it really will prepare you for a career in the field. All assignments are very valuable and useful. He LOVES to talk, so if you want feedback, you might get more than you anticipated. Just put in the effort and do work
Ed is not a very good teacher for this course. He leaves new students up to their own devices and relies on the class to help each other out. Grading is done weeks later after all parts of the assignment are complete with no feedback for any of the parts. He has high expectations for his 101 class to have a MASSIVE amount of prior graphics knowledg
AVOID THIS PROFESSOR. He has no idea how to run online courses and does not understand how to manage his time. This semester he has been late to opening up the weekly modules, discussions, and even assignments will open days after the calendar says it is due. Unavoidable for GRC 101 as he is the only instructor, but STAY AWAY if looking for GRC 104
Be prepare to do work and listen well. He teached well from definitions of graphic communications to Client Live Presentation. I am glad to take his class because I feel more responsible to do work on time and know to interact with students more.
he doesn't explain everything well, he is really bad teacher he wants the projects so perfect, but its hard to pleasure this teacher with the project, i thought this class was going to be east but its not, i recommend you to take this class last
Never used textbook. Weekly meetings online (1 hour long) must attend or watch recording. weekly discussion question, couple quizzes, ONE BIG GROUP PROJECT!!!! this will consume the last half of the semester, and have a presentation at the end. you work with actual clients. He's confusing, but he will answer any questions you have.
No direct answers. Beats around the bush. He commented on a pre-presentation Powerpoint from my team and constantly tells us he doesn't understand what we were trying to present in a very rude tone that is far from creative criticism. Before he even reached halfway of our PP, he just closed it and moved on to the next one because it was "too much"
Ed Kanet is a nice guy and he does care about his students. But, he is very unorganized and does things like forget to open assignments when they're due, forget to update due dates on assignments, create unclear directions, etc.
He has no idea what he's doing or how to run a class. Seriously, how can someone be a graphic communications teacher and constantly forget to make content available the day it's due??? And his assignment pages and emails are so poorly constructed and unappealing to read??? Too confusing and unorganized. Save yourself the time and avoid this class.
I'm only taking his class because it was required and because it was in person, but recently we switched to online class. He's highly disorganized and confusing. His projects have nothing to do with digitally designing. TOO MUCH WORK WORTH LITTLE POINTS. i hate this class so much he's the reason i dont want to study this area anymore. the worst.
Extremely disorganized. I've taken 2 classes with him. Assignments are numbered incorrectly, online conferences have horrible audio quality that is very distracting, making it hard to get anything out of a lecture. Takes a long time to grade. He is a graphic design professor but his presentations and web pages look like they came out of the 90s.
Worst class ever. Grading is unclear he is super unorganized & doesnt care about design. He told us he got his degree in Journalism dont give him design work he will brush it off & not pay attention to it. The class is just knowing how to communicate w/less words as possible. Take the 8 wk course it will be a lot of work but its less time w/him.
His class is very lecture heavy and sometimes can be a little unclear. If you don't know how to be specific in your questioning, you might just end up getting a 10-minute response to "how was I supposed to set up this project". The number of assignments he hands out for homework can get overwhelming. If you're busy with other classes, don't take it
Does not grade on time. Forgets to post lots of the assignments. Does not like being called out on his bad practices. Don't expect to get a perfect score on anything, he grades very specifically. If you also don't meet HIS expectations and the assignment isn't perfect in his eyes, you will be pointed out in the class and told what you did wrong.
Super unorganized, way too much lecturing, dates for the online classes are wrong. For example: something is suppose to be due at 11:59pm and he puts am. His assignments are confusing. the online meet ups are way too long. There is 2 FINAL exams.
This class is incredibly difficult, but Kanet makes it harder. His lectures are far too quick-paced for what is meant to be an introductory course. He misinterprets questions and then doesn't even answer the one that he thinks you asked. He also doesn't answer emails, so if you need to get into a classroom to scan for an assignment, good luck
Extremely unorganized. His assignments are out-date, which can't be apply for real life jobs. He is the last and only class you MUST take if you want to graduate, CSN doesn't allow you to choose another prof for this class. Good luck.
Absolutely awful. So disorganized and unclear. Expects you to have knowledge on things the class is meant to teach so he passes right over the information. Does not respond to questions. Blamed us for not telling him about an assignment he forgot to post. It's unreal honestly.
I enjoyed my 104 class, but this professor is unorganized. I took this class during COVID and having late online lectures 6-8 pm was difficult. It was difficult to focus and there were times that the lectures went til 9:30. He is very lecture heavy, you have to watch the lectures live or write 2 paragraphs of what you learned watching the recording
He indirectly called me unintelligent. I thought we were all beginners learning? How am I supposed to know what's intelligently designed and what's not? Also his lectures go on for way too long. He is never clear on what exactly he wants and he nitpicks. Don't bother taking his classes.
Terrible professor, I would absolutely not take him for any course he is very rude and doesn't seem like he cares about any student when he makes comments on work. He grades hard and expects the most out of beginner designers. There are times during the lectures where he makes very questionable comments that made me not like him off the bat.
If you have the chance to choose any other professor please do. He will take points off your work for stuff that is not on the rubric and his feedback and criticism is not constructive or helpful. He just tells you what he would have done. He is obviously a minimalist and believes in simplicity. He stifles your creativity but stresses it.
Kanet is great. Don't let the reviews scare you. He gives harsh critiques, but all teachers do and we shouldn't get so upset. He wants us to be better. We did discussions, practicums, quizzes, and projects. Sometimes I felt a little overwhelmed but I did fine. He records his live sessions, you have to report on them. I learned a lot in this class.
Constantly mixing up his online and offline classes. Lectures prove he either doesn't know his own material or doesn't keep up with current trends, evolution of Adobe products. He ignores his scoring rubric half the time, instead grading what appears to be an emotional response to the material. Projects own political and moral philosophies in class
Do NOT let the reviews scare you. As long you attend class and do your homework, you will get a decent grade. His classes are very lecture heavy. He's very caring and you learn a lot about the ins and outs of the industry. He will criticize your work but is only setting you up for success.
I learned impact. maybe I won't always be a graphic designer, im a different role , artist maybe , trying my best to bridge that gap always , but I understand it exists, impact. Get ready to have fun and be open to learning . always striving to make impact on society sir ty
Don't be afraid to talk to him when you have problems. Kanet can be a bit disorganized. Sometimes he forgets to update modules and he falls behind on grading fairly often. But if you do the work, communicate, participate, and take the chances to improve your grade when you can, you'll pass his class pretty easily.
Very unorganized, and unclear about things. Made quizzes and any of of the material that was on those quizzes wasn't even in the modules. The "textbooks" that he advises you to read lead to an empty link or the information is inaccessible for some reason. Vague in explaining projects even the final project. Won't take him again, lesson learned.
This class was very confusing and un-organized. I spent more time stressing over the fact tests did not line up with the info given in module than actually learning. Lectures were on Thursdays to explain a project that was due 2 days later. Projects not described clearly, and due dates were being changed last minute.
Instructions for the assignments are extremely hard to understand. Attending live sessions didn't help clarify anything. I often felt really stressed getting assignments done. He doesn't follow the scoring on his rubrics most of the time, which could lead you to have points marked off for no reason.
Felt very unorganized all semester. Lectures would be very longwinded and weren't very helpful with the material. He would say that its not a design class so don't stress over our designs, and would then mark us down on our designs. You'll need to buy software for the semester unless you want to go to campus for every single assignment.
