Ed is really helpful and a very clear instructor. He has easily been my favorite math teacher. I was lucky enough to have him for both diff eq and linear algebra, and in both classes he was a great instructor with a great method of teaching that keeps you busy but keeps you on top of the material so you don't have to do as much studying.
Keppleman is extremely intellegent and is used to teaching very high level math classes (400+), so when taking him for anything else hes nearly impossible. His lectures will teach one aspect, his quizes will quiz on another aspect, his exams will be yet another aspect. You are never sure exactly what to study for and are always surprised. DIFFICULT
Great teacher of Linear Algebra. He is a very clear and interesting teacher, although some students found his tests to be a little tough. Expect a steady but reasonable work load, and frequent quizes. Outside of class, he (as dept. chair) saved my neck by pushing some paperwork through to get me credit for a class I did CBE. Woot!
SUCKS!!!!
speaks english!!!! hes kind of an oddball but a great guy and a good teacher. easy to communicate with and willing to help you outside of class...but be prepared to take weekly online quizzes!
Worst math teacher ever, going to fail calc 2 thanks to him! Definitely find another teach for calculus 2, I know of two kids who had to drop this class their SECOND time through
Hard teacher for Calculus 2. Doesn't explain things clearly and uses "magic math". He's a good person and funny, but hard to learn from.
unreasonably hard hw. tests longer that possible in class period. just does sample problems. eager and available (by home phone even) to help out side of class. over all, good guy, but very hard to learn math from.
He had us turn in homework and take a quiz every day. It was a great way to learn. After all the dropped homework and quizzes I got over a 100% in the class. Great teacher.
He's a pretty good teacher and very helpful. He's easy to reach outside of the classroom. You have a steady amount of homework and quizzes, and the tests can be easy or hard depending if you know the material. The tests are long so you need to know everything very well to finish on time.
He's not completely awful. You can't take notes because he is too quick & stands in front of everything he writes. Only reason I'm going to pass is because he lowers the grading scale, which is nerve racking at times. Incredibly boring. If you take calc at all, I recommend buying "How to Ace Calculus". It's 10 times more helpful and funny.Amazon it
This professor forces students to use EDUCO software. It does not work on any computer on campus, cost me $33 to purchase, and was worth -10% to my grade. His final included information we had not previously discussed in class. He single handedly killed my passion for math. Avoid this professor even if it means waiting a year to take calc II.
Kepplemann doesn't prepare for class (ie. he'll write example on the board that are incorrect) He is nice but a hitler when it comes to questions you should know everything prior to what he will teach you n this class his tests are really hard and he expects you be able to put formulas together even though you were never taught how in class
Hard to take notes from for a couple reasons. One he can go fairly fast if you really don't get the concept, can get problems wrong, and stands in front of it. Tests are fairly easy, you can retake one portion out of five. Educo sucks, do it with a friend. Good grading curve to the class. If your good at math I would recommend.
Bad teacher. Doesn't teach any material. Don't take this class.
I am currently taking calculus after not having any math for over 3 years. I am a bit confused at concepts, but he does a good job explaining. He uses clickers now and it is somewhat helpful for practice. No more EDUCO, but webassign is used for hw and it is really helpful in showing solutions to help with problems. Tests are fair, retakes given
Good professor. Uses clickers but you're allowed to discuss with other students always. Usually holds review session a couple days before each test and it's really helpful. Tests are exactly like examples he does in class. Really easy to get an A.
I've always been bad at math so this is probably very biased, but I had a TERRIBLE time in Keppelmann's class. I rarely understood what he said and he used cheesy metaphors to explain math (which was kind of funny but mostly confusing). If you have a tough time with math I would recommend another professor.
by far the worst teacher I have ever had. His exams are completely irrational, a 6 page exam with multiple word problems that is expected to be finished in 50 minutes. He fails to realize that HE is the teacher for a reason and not everyone is a genius at calculus. AVOID AT ALL COSTS
Very nice writing, makes it easier too see what is going on. test are SO HARD!!!! too hard. curve is usually huge though. retakes on all tests which is a huge help. overall really nice guy calculus just sucks in general
wow i considered myself good at math until i took his class.. tests are crazy hard and require so much studying and even then don't hope on getting anything better than a B if you're lucky. Very good professor, very hard tests!
Great professor. Horrible class. The test are absolutely ridiculous. You are given 50 minutes to finish like a 6 page test with all word problems and no multiple choice. It's crazy hard. You can retake one section that you mess up on... which is usually every section so its rough. Uses clickers for attendance which sucks.
Great at explaining hard concepts, but his tests are extremely hard. All questions asked will be harder than questions in the book, and the tests will be too long, so you have to rush to finish. You will feel like crap after an exam, but they are graded on a curve. Hard class, but you will learn the material.
Good teacher, willing to help anyone who needs it. Holds study sessions right before test that help A LOT!! Also, he curves like crazy. Math's not even close to being my best subject and i still got an A.
Pay attention and keep up. i stopped showing up for class for about 4 weeks and barely scraped by with a 70%
One of my favorite math professors. Helpful lectures, fair grading. A stickler about calculators and no notes during exams. Goes above and beyond to provide outside help. "Click" quizzes are lame; exams are so similar to outlines provided. Overall, HIGH recommendation!
This was an easy class, graded on a curve, and with extra credit offered. Keppelman posts his lectures online, and the formatting soemtimes makes it hard to understanding, he offers test study sessions and practice tests, but his answer sheets were often VERY wrong. He also didn't have good control over the class, and it was very noisy.
Hard to understand in the 100 levels. He teaches like he expects his students to already know the material. Awful at explaining small steps that help some people. He should stick to upper level courses. His texts are long and there is not enough time to take them in the time given.
Ed was my favorite math teacher. Class is mandatory but just being there is an easy A since you get graded for participation. It is easy to meet with him during office hours. I suggest going to his study sessions the day before a big test. They really do help! The material was easy as long as you pay attention in class and go online for help.
Goes extremely out of his way to help students, whether it's through office hours or putting up lecture notes online. Rushes through topics sometimes and the class gets noisy, but overall his class is pretty straightforward.
starts off easy, then get a bit harder. He has a really bad TA and she barely spoke english. there is a moster curve though out the course so thats helpful
There were a lot of sections that he flew through and left me without really understanding what was going on. Since most people did bad on his test (which are no multiple choice) he did give the class a curve which helped. Overall he was just okay.
He tended to rush through topics, and was bad at explaining the small steps that could have helped greatly. His tests were always way too long. But he is REALLY,REALLY, helpful. It would be in your best interest to go see him during office hours because they are super helpful. And he's a really nice guy.
Keppelmann was goofy. I liked him. He wasn't very clear sometimes, but overall, he's a good professor. He holds review sessions before the exams, so go to them!
Keppelmann makes this class extremely confusing. You never know what you are doing and it reflects in the grades in the class. Averages on tests were below 50%. To make up for this you get to retake an entire section of the test. At the end of the day, I'd say he is very smug and disinterested in the students. Take someone else if possible.
Very difficult class. The average grade at the end of the semester was a 64.39%. All homework is done online and part of it can only be submitted once. Tests are rather difficult and take many hours to prepare for (study guides are somewhat vague). Holds review sessions before each exam which were helpful. If possible, I would try and avoid him.
Dr. Keppelmann is very nice and willing to help students, but he gives out a lot of coursework and makes the class harder than it needs to be. The class average was very low, but he curves at the end and for each assignment/rubric section.
Keppelmann is a decent teacher; his MATH 126 (Precalc I) class is in a lecture hall with 300+ kids, so you kind of have to force yourself to focus. It's a typical math class; pretty boring, but if you pay attention you'll do fine. While there is a decent amount of homework, it's extremely easy. Not the best teacher, not the worst.
Teaches very quickly. Tends to do math in front of you rather than demonstrate why he's doing actually doing it. Can be very frustrating.
Mr. Keppelmann is a nice guy. For me, math is never my forte, however, he takes the time to offer ways to help. He really does care for his students. The study guides correlate well with his tests. Pre-Calculus can be tough, but as long as you grasp the topics in class, you can perform well on the exams. It is possible to receive an A.
I have struggled with math my entire life, and was really hoping that this class would change my mind. I never missed a day of class, went to extra tutoring, and even went to him, and was still confused on what we were covering in class. Whenever you asked for help, his suggestion would be to just drop his class. Really? No.
Do not take his classes. He gives quizes within a couple of days of teaching the topic, and they are hard. No practice material until after you've probably failed the quiz, and the homeworks are one-chance that cascade down if you miss one part. I love math, but studying for this class is discouraging.
Dr. Keppelmann was a great teacher and I really enjoyed taking this course. Although I only ended up with a B-, I felt that the material was extremely engaging and that I ended up learning a lot about Calculus 3 throughout the semester. He was exceptionally helpful, understanding, and patient with late work as well. Great teacher.
Extremely helpful and nice. Gives out his cell phone number so that if you ever need help you can text him and get a reply within minutes. He gives you sample quizzes that look exactly like the weekly quizzes and same with the exams. Exams tend to be long but he lets students retake sometimes up to half the exams. Study the samples and you're gold
I loved Professor Keppelman! He made learning the material easy, and even enjoyable. He gives out study guides with questions very similar to the test. He even lets you retake one section from each test that you did the poorest on! I would definitely recommend taking him.
I had failed 126, and I decided to take Keppelmann, BEST DECISION if you are not a math person. He is very clear, makes the material under stable, and he's very relatable - he gives you his cell # if you have questions, he does take attendance by in-class math problems, but he's very lenient on them. He's by far one of the best teachers I've had
SO MANY USELESS PROJECTS. DO NOT TAKE HIM FOR HONORS. I DROPPED HALFWAY THROUGH AND CHANGED MY MAJOR.
I would recommend Professor Keppelmann for MATH 126. Although he teaches super fast, his lectures aren't bad. There is about 4 homework assignments a week, a quiz every Friday in the discussion class and a test every 3 weeks. He gives clear and precise study guides and sets everyone of his students up to pass.
Keppelmann is a really nice guy, but this class was terrible. I took 181 my senior year of high school and got an A, so I was assuming this would be pretty easy. Boy was I wrong. He's a sweetheart, he gave us his cell number so we could ask him questions. He's also very understanding--ask for extensions if you need them. Overall I hated this class.
Professor Keppelmann is such a nice guy. He is so intelligent and I really enjoyed his class, but he is not super clear in his lectures all the time. If you ask, he will usually postpone exams, change due dates, accept late work, and go over material again, but don't take advantage of him! I am really good at math, but the projects were hell!
He's a really good teacher. He explains the concepts in a way that everyone can understand them. Also he gives extra credit after every tests. He also provides retakes for tests. Homework is done online, but they're easy. Overall, good teacher.
So much homework you're barley going to have time to learn anything before a quiz. Takes subject matter from simple to extremely hard too fast to absorb the basics of the concept. POOR teaching style. This Professor will crash your GPA almost guaranteed. I learned almost nothing from him and had to rely on Math Center, tutorials on YouTube & TA.
This was the hardest class I have ever taken. Keppelmann clearly knows his stuff, but he teaches the material too fast. He over-complicates concepts and gives extremely hard problems as practice, so there is not enough time to learn the basics of any given concept. His tests and homework are extremely hard and he will bury you in homework.
Don't take this class. Smart guy, but very poor teacher.
Always stay on top of your game!! Never fall through the cracks or you will suffer. Always prepare for the worse and it is always recommended to read a couple chapters ahead. Toughest class I've taken so far. Kepplemann clearly knows his material, but he doesn't know what its like to be a student. Lenient on hw because there were a ton!!!
I'm sure there are worst professor's to take for math, but Keppelmann was not the best. He's not super clear during his lectures and his class is super boring. I wouldn't recommend him if you can find a better professor.
Dr. Keppelmann isnt the easiest instructor you'll, but his class is not hard as long as you are willing to put the work in. His tests(4) and quizzes(every week) are tough and you'll need to show up to class and discussion. You'll get the grade you deserve.
Professor Keppelmann is an awesome person, but not too good of a professor. He doesn't teach what is on his exams which makes the class extremely difficult. I would not recommend.
Absolutely the worst professor I have ever met before. I was retaking Calculus I and I could not believe how 100% different these professors were. Consistently cancels office hours. Expect to pass, but you will learn nothing. Our last test as a 46 point curve. TAs do not understand his problems. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS IF YOU NEED TO LEARN MATH
While he is a nice and very intelligent teacher I advise to stay away. He is very unclear when he teaches, and the test averages are very low. He does let you take retakes on all test but only one section which normally isn't enough to get your grade up.
One of the kindest professors I have ever had. He is easy to talk to when you need help and always kind. He lets you retake a section of the test to get your grade up as well. I would highly recommend.
I loved being in Keppelmann's class! He actually teaches you how to do something and goes through step by step in detail. He doesn't always see your hand if you have a question, but you can approach him after class if you don't understand something. Homework is online. He is a sweet guy too. He is willing to help you in any way he can. Recommended!
He only lectures and it seems as if he is learning the content as he's explaining it. He doesn't elaborate and when he does he goes too fast to comprehend. He is not a good math teacher especially when you need extra elaboration and help.
While not the clearest instructor, Dr. Keppelmann covered the material well overall, giving examples where possible. Sessions were only 50 minutes long, and students couldn't finish exams. He waits until final grades are calculated before assigning letter grades. He got very behind on grading, so many students dropped/withdrew early. His grade: B-
While Keppelman looks like he understands a majority of the material he teaches, his teaching style does not translate his knowledge. I taught myself most of the material out of class. Don't expect to receive timely feedback on grades either. It's been a week since the final and I'm still waiting on grades for 7 assignments and the final.
He is a great professor and cares a ton. Lectures are full of information and if you ask questions he is eager to explain in more depth to ensure that you understand. Nice guy!
I am traditionally an A student and am usually ok with bad professors but Keppelmann is by far the worst professor I have ever had. Through college and high school this is the only class I have ever failed. He lacks the ability to teach and in lectures all he does is confuse you. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS.
attendance is mandatory, you have to use an app and punch in a code every single class except exam days. I don't know about his other classes but for mine, he had to curve and give out retakes for literally everything, the average for my class was barely 60%. his exams & quizzes are super difficult while the practice ones are super easy, DONT TAKE
Vague Leaves Lesson information out of notes that are on homework Slow replies
Definitely go into the tutoring place if you have this teacher. He is not good at explaining and gives a lot of homework. Most nights we have 20 problems with many of them being 1a-1g. You type in a code for every class to make certain that you show up and there will be questions on the app. Do not take!
The class was quite confusing for someone who has taken precalculus in high school. Although he gives out plenty of examples during the lectures, some of them don't seem to correlate with the homework.
He is a nice guy but not a great professor. Expect to go to the math center for this class. His teaching does not follow the loads of homework and challenging weekly quizzes. He moves at a very fast pace expecting everyone to follow. One good thing is there are section retakes for every test since everyone does so poorly.
Attendance is mandatory. He isnt too good at the actual teaching part and when you ask him a question in class he kind of avoids it and just repeats what he just said. His test are hard and different than the practice test he gives out. The math center saved me!
You are assigned at least 6 homeworks a week, plus a quiz every Friday. Your attendance counts towards your grade. In lectures, he vaguely explains things and goes over problems, but then gives a harder problem on the test. You do get a chance to do a retake on one portion (out of 5) on his exams, and he includes an extra credit question.
His lectures are really boring, but theyre okay if you can get through them without falling asleep. Weekly quizzes, 2-3 lengthy homework assignments each week, and 4 tests including the final. He allows 1 question retake on the tests and gives a practice test the weekend before the test. Also offers extra credit. He tries to set you up for success
By far the most difficult math course I've ever taken. With the difficulty came a great amount of knowledge, and I'm glad I took the class with Ed. Wouldn't advise taking Calc III with Ed if you're just trying to get through your degree. If you'd actually like to be challenged in a math course and learn a lot, I'd highly recommend him.
Dont do it
The test average for my class is 43%. No one learns anything, and the tests are ridiculously long and hard for the time given to take them. Everyone I talk to has an F in this class. He is corrected by students constantly and i dont trust his teaching strategy.
He course was by far one of the hardest courses I took this semester. He lectured constantly and tests counted for a lot in his class. The homework load is very heavy, much more than other 126 classes. Do not take his course.
It's clear that Keppelmann knows what he's talking about, but he definitely doesn't know how to communicate that. His lectures are made up entirely of examples without teaching the actual concepts. He expects you to know info from courses that aren't pre-reqs. He takes literally months to grade things. Don't expect to get much help from him either.
Professor Keppelmann is definitely intelligent and knows a lot about math, but he is not great at explaining it. He does examples in class but gives no background and thought process behind the examples and even when seeking extra help he just repeated what he said in class. Hes about 2 months behind on grading assignments through the semester too
By far one of the worst courses that I have taken. He is constantly correceted by students, and his teaching method is not good. When you ask for help outside of class, he responds with attitude. Also, he takes forever to grade exams so you are never sure of what your grade is.
I completely regret taking Keppelmann and am just hoping I pass. His lectures aren't helpful, my classes test score average is a 43% right now. He knows the material, he's just absolutely terrible at explaining things. The tests are always so long the majority of people can't finish them in time. I would absolutely never take him again.
The worst class that I have ever taken. He teaches exclusively from powerpoints, which is unhelpful. He also gives tophat questions for homework, but never gives us notice, so they usually end up going unanswered. Attendance is mandatory, so if tophat isn't working that day, you're marked absent for class. His exams and quizzes are hard to pass too
He is the worst math professor I have ever had. He is so behind on grading things and expects you to know material from classes that aren't pre-requisites. He does not do a good job of explaining concepts and just copies a lot of stuff from the book. He is a nice man but sucks at teaching.
Tests and quizzes were extremely difficult.
One of the worse teachers I have ever had all the way up until the very end. He was terrible at getting the material across. He was incredibly lazy outside of class. Its the end of the semester and he still has not graded everything. Overall, to much wrong with this professor to convey in this review. Avoid if possible.
He may be test heavy but the great thing is lets you retake the test and you only have to retake the parts you got wrong. That justifies his test heaviness because he allows you to learn from your mistakes and fix your grade in the process. If you pay attention in lecture you'll now exactly what he wants when it comes to test time.
This is by far the worst math professor I have ever had... 0/10 would not recommend to my worst enemy. He teaches exclusively from PowerPoints and does not really even teach... He shows the topic, shows the problem, shows how he solved it, but does not give a play by play of how to go about the problem. Stay away if you can... Got all help from TA
Ed is an extremely difficult prof. His form of teaching isn't really teaching at all so be prepared to teach yourself the material. All I have to say is if you have the chance to switch your math126 professor then I highly recommend you do it.
He only shows pre recorded lectures without any context or extra help available. Taking Pre-Calc with him and I've already taken this class once before and still not doing well. Had to hire an outside tutor to teach me because he does nothing. Just plays videos during zoom calls and sits there picking his nose and eating it. Seriously... No Cap
This dude is straight up awful. He does not know how to teach. This is the reason you get to retake all of your tests. You must learn them yourself or you will fail.
The only reason I passed this class was because of all the hours of note-taking and studying I had to do and teaching myself everything. His lectures are useless and he prerecords all of them then during the zoom meetings he just plops himself there and picks his nose. He also gives quizzes on topics you "learn" that same day
Dude, maybe I'm just bad at math but this guy sure ain't helping.
I'm surprised that this guy has been working for UNR for over a year. Fire him and pay the TA. If you get him, drop the class or transfer to a different teacher. All his lectures are google doc examples that skip major details all the time. His class is composed of horrendous self made khan academy videos. A toddler with a crayon is more helpful.
Worst class I have taken here at UNR. Keppelmann needs a serious wake up call. Avoid if possible.
This professor was the worst professor I've ever had throughout college. He assigns 2 quizzes per day which are super hard along with quizzes friday and 2 homework assigments every week. I did not have time for my other classes and he was not willing to help fix that. In the first two weeks I had a 20% in the class, yet I usually get A's and B's.
This was a difficult class, no doubt. He does "daily quizzes" for most class periods. These were often quite difficult and timed. These were the most difficult because it is your first experience on your own. Take them seriously. Unclear about things a lot. Make up points on tests tho. Just show up, do the work! Very nice guy and loves teaching.
This was my last class for my math minor, & I just wanted to quit pursing it. Worst class I've ever taken. He teaches everything off of a powerpoint where he cares more about the transitions between each slide than showing how to do the problem itself. He is very confusing & his exams are nothing like the content covered in class. Avoid this class.
Do yourself a favor and avoid this class at all costs. Professor makes you take all tests without notes or a calculator which is ridiculous for a 100 level math class. He treats the class like its a 400 level class and the only way youll learn anything is if you listen to the TA. Slides are brightly colored and impossible to read. Dont do it.
Worst math teacher Ive ever had. Flew through examples in class and did not clarify steps when we asked to go back through them. The powerpoints are hard to read and do not flow well at all. The TA is the only reason I knew what to do ever. The tests do not allow calculators and there are so many quizzes and hw assignments he doesnt address.
He started the semester by saying not many enjoy his way of teaching and he had no intention of changing methods, red flag. His slideshows are bright-colored backgrounds with illegible fonts. There’s no teaching, only how to understand graphs. His only teaching strategy is to use Desmos and praise the calculator.
If you are someone that needs to see math problems written out step by step and explained carefully and slowly, DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!!! The actual teaching of calculus often falls on his TA's. While his powerpoint transitions are very funny, his lectures are confusing to follow. He advises you NOT to take notes... worst mistake!!!
The worst professor I've had. Teaches by showing Desmos graphs and illegible slideshows. I had a family emergency the week before finals and I contacted my TA and professor immediately asking to make up a quiz I would miss. Neither read nor responded to my emails for a week and once they responded it was "too hectic to do anything special now."
Keppelmann curved every single test/quiz/homework we took over the semester, as well as offered extra credit on those tests AND he allowed entire sections on every test to be re-taken afterwards for full credit! His tests were exactly like the practice tests and quizzes. The only people who fail here are people expecting to do no work to learn calc
Please at all costs avoid this teacher. He uses slideshows to present the material. He goes really fast and does not work out the problems. There are daily quizzes and homework on top of that. Then an actual quiz weekly. The homework can take up to 2 hours to complete.
A good professor at heart, but he fails to properly teach. Presents examples that don't get fully solved, then expects questions to be solved and a little more on quizzes and tests. Homework through daily quizzes with the addition of online homework makes this class's homework sometimes too overwhelming to bear.
It seems as if he puts more effort into his neon colored PowerPoint slides than learning the material himself. Half of the lecture times are often him correcting his work and making lots of mistakes. There is also daily quizzes, a weekly quiz, homework that takes up hours of time, and has failed to respond to me when I need help.
Keppelman is probably about as good as higher math professors get. He does a ton of example problems in class and tells you exactly what will be on tests and quizzes, but he didn't do a good job of explaining the concepts abstractly or how they apply to the real world. He allows test retakes and gives extra credit. Overall not a bad choice.
This class was overwhelming. the lectures were very confusing, the concepts were not well explained, and he made constant mistakes with examples. In addition, he assigned way too much homework and midterms. The "daily quizzes" always had mistakes and were a waste of time. The only saving grace was test corrections & extra credit on the midterms.
Oh. my. god. Keppelmann is literally the worst professor I think possible. He would grade our assignments using an answer key which was wrong like 60% of the time. When we told him his answer key was wrong, he told us "yeah, I'll fix it." AND LITERALLY NEVER DID! Everyone in this class probably lost 5% because his key was always wrong. Worst ever.
You're going to wish you took a different professor if you take this class. No calculators(you will wish you had one for 330), mandatory daily assignments, tough exams, tough grading, hard-to-follow lectures. The lectures are power point slides that are difficult to reference because they don't show intermediary steps or explain solution steps.
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. Ed allows retakes of parts of each exam (except the final) and he curves a ton at the end of the class. Both of these happen because the averages are always failing. He has DAILY quizzes, does not go over the homework, and his lectures will give you a headache. No calculators on tests which are so long that no one finishes.
Avoid at all costs. The only saving grace in this class was exam retakes since every exam had awful averages. Daily quizzes are rough, and his lectures are straight out of 1998 with 60 second PowerPoint animations on his neon slides. Self studying is not enough to pass in this class. No calculators on exams with hilariously large numbers.
Awful. This is the worst experience of a class I have ever had. Every class Mr. Keppelmann teaches off of a colorful PowerPoint with long transitions and raves about DESMOS. I urge all students who have the chance to switch this class immediately. You will have to teach yourself the material and take away time from other classes and your hobbies.
Dr. Keppelmann is passionate about math, and a nice guy. That being said, the content in this course was heinous. Homework and a quiz every Friday was reasonable. The daily quizzes are unreasonably difficult to understand. Lectures are confusing, with no "in depth," explanations when learning new material. The TA for my section saved my grade.
Awful experience, his lectures are on colorful slides that explain nothing. Have to teach yourself the material. Impossible to communicate to outside of class. Please do yourself a favor and switch out if you can. Daily quizzes are confusing as well. Talks about DESMOS too many times.
He seems like a really nice guy who really does care for math but its not enough to be a good professor. He seems to spend more time trying to make his lecture slides cool and trendy with bright colors and lots of transitions but the slides themselves have no valuable information. You have to learn a lot by yourself.
His class was WAY too much work for a math 120 class where most the students are liberal arts majors trying to get a math credit. Most people in the class failed and or barely passed. He gave so much homework and was very bad at teaching the material, his slides were ridiculous. I had to teach myself all the material for the class independently.
MoWedFri 10-11am Negatives: Slides are very badly designed, 3 daily quizzes a week with very hard curveball questions, relied almost solely off of self-studying (3Blue1Brown Linear Algebra) and easy-ish myMathLab online homework to understand material. Workload felt decently overwhelming overall.
Worst professor. Horrible lectures & instruction. Went into office hours & not only did he confuse me more but emailed me after saying he misled me. Course load is wack. 2 exams & huge project in the last 3 weeks. Assumed we knew concepts I had never heard before. Graded on things we were unaware of! Didn't know grades for weeks. Bad. Never. Again.
Disorganized lectures off of slides that were way too much to actually retain any information from. Daily assignments that were way too hard and he had constant mistakes on. Homework was extremely tedious, and these often-had mistakes/typos as well. On the third test we competed against each other for a test grade, bad pedagogy. Nice guy, bad prof.
Another bad professor in UNR. Daily quizzes instead of in-person attendance will stress you out. Rigid grading in quizzes with no partial credit. I noticed that WebAssign access was free, but that's not worth it if Ed's setting you up to fail.
awful professor! I have no idea how he's still here. it was a struggle to pass this class. he talked to us like we were already supposed to be experts in the content and we had a quiz every single class. so far the worst class of my college experience. he also made a lot of little mistakes so it was hard to trust his answers when he was teaching
He's a very nice guy, but dear god stay away. Impossibly difficult daily quizzes, illegible slides, unreasonably long exams, does not go over basics of a concept before going into hellish examples. Makes no fewer than 5 mistakes per lecture, and his answer key is wrong about 50% of the time.
Keppelmann's class is a challenge, but using tools like Unstuck ai alongside the textbook can make a big difference. The concepts are tough, but his practice problems and extra credit help offset the difficulty.
STAY AWAY AT ALL COSTS. I was forced to take this class after a schedule glitch and I figured I could make it work, but no. Take this class if you don't want a social life and only want to do homework. God awful at teaching and gets so many things wrong in his lectures. Do anything else but take him. Trust me I'm sparing your sanity.
Daily quizzes, will fail your test if you accidentally grab the wrong colored one that you're grouped into. I had a job, I had other classes. I could not imagine myself passing like this, so I dropped and will plan to take another professor.
Keppelmann's lecture slides are extremely hard to learn from and don't provide enough examples to be fully prepared for the abnormal problems he includes in quizzes and tests. He has received many complaints regarding the slides but has never changed them. His study guides are horrific and his workload is much heavier compared to other teachers.
Professor Keppelmann is awesome. He will go above and beyond for you if you really try hard, his lectures are easy to follow, and he even BROUGHT PRINGLES TO CLASS FOR US. The homework is kind of brutal, but it's necessary, and you'll live.
Though his slides are not great to view outside of class, watching him solve problems in class makes solving problems relatively easy. Do the daily participation early in the day, and work ahead on homework. Do them early, and you will get an A. There is a considerable amount of extra credit- take advantage of it.
Seems like a good guy outside of teaching, but please no. Lots of homework, make sure to keep reminders to yourself somehow because if you miss it rip your grade. Test every. single. week. Exams were not like the study guides. Sobbed the night before the last exam and barely passed with a C. Way outside of my major, but forced it take it. Stay away
For MATH 305 - Given 50 minutes to take exams when you actually need 2 hours, even if you know exactly what you're doing. The whole class was open ended and nothing was ever fully taught all the way through. Not to mention, they gave us a 5 part exam (online) that chat doesn't understand, THE WEEK OF FINALS. Don't take unless absolutely necessary.
Seems like a nice guy and is a friendly teacher. But his teaching method and slides are a mess and are not understandable. Quiz every week and homework following every class. Workload wasn't to difficult, but unless you want to teach yourself I recommend finding another professor.
Class is very difficult if you don't show up and the
Class is very difficult if you do not show up. Tests are worth 50 % of your grade so make sure to pay attention. His notes are very hard to follow so you basically have to teach yourself.
