Best of the best. very clear, down to earth, easy going , funny, very helpfull, VERY GOOD
Straightforward, helpful, fair. Take him if you need micro.
Excellent teacher. Very clear and concise when he teacher. There are a LOT of notes which you WILL write down (no ppts handouts). But, trust me, it will help you a lot in the long run for this course. Lab was decent, esp. the unknown project. Explains his points with lots of examples and stories from his personal/profession background.
Edward Kroll is unethical, unprofessional and unwilling to help his students. I have a passion for biology and he did nothing more but dismiss me when I asked for help. Do not take him take garcia!!!!
Really nice and funny. His lectures were okay but not as clear cut all the time. Multiple choice in tests were tricky. But overall it was a good class.
Worst teacher I have had at ECC. A majority of the class fails his tests and he does nothing to help. Favors certain student and makes others suffer.Very unorganized
The class was super easy. I don't think anyone could get lower than a C in this class. The notes are exactly what you need for the tests. Unfortunately it's a pretty boring class, but it is an easy A.
The entire class struggled and the professor did nothing to help his students. Essay tests are brutal and graded unfair. Very unorganized instructor a majority of the class dropped and the people that remain do not get a grade better than a c.
Be prepared to devote every minute to studying and do not rely on any help from kroll. He lacks the passion for biology and it shows because he makes his students suffer.
horrible stay away take garcia she is willing to help her students and is very nice
This teacher is great. He helps you when you need it, and is approachable most of the time. I found him to be very organized, clear and concise. His tests have a combo of multiple choice and essay questions. A few of the multiple choice questions can be tricky, but if you know your stuff, the essays are not hard at all. TAKE HIM FOR MICRO.
VERY NICE AND PRETTY CLEAR. DO NOT TAKE GARCIA, SHE IS RUDE AND CONDESCENDING. KROLL WAS MUCH BETTER BY FAR.
EXCELLENT teacher. Lectures and notes are extremely organized, and if you study the notes well, you will do fine on the tests without reading the book. Tests are essay which some students don't like, but he's such a great teacher that you will know the information. He LOVES his subject which always makes a difference with a teacher.
Elliot picks favorites in his class and unfortunalty if you are not one of those favorite students be prepared to struggle the entire semester. If you are unfortunate enough not to be on his good side he will give you less points for the same answer as someone else.
DO NOT TAKE bio 110 with Kroll! he makes the subject harder than it should be & is UNORGANIZED! class objectives aren't clear, reviews useless.
Ed is a very tough teacher. Notes are confusing and lengthy. Tests are very hard. Very hard class. If you miss you are out of luck.
stay away from this teacher he lacks the proper background to be teaching the course
Krol is a very smart and helpful teacher. If you pay attention during lecture, take good notes and study them then a good grade will follow. The labs are fun and interesting. As with any science, studying is a must for a good grade!
My advice is...take really good notes. Take notes on exactly what he says and not just what he writes down. Study off those and don't even buy the book! It's such an easy class. If you want to actually learn something, I would take Garcia. I heard she's awesome. Ed is a new teacher...give him a break.
I don't care what anybody says, Kroll is the best Bio teacher. Of course you need to study for the class BUT he does reword things on his tests a little differently then the notes, but that only promotes you to learn what you are studying. I recommended him to my girlfriend and she's an art major and she got a B. Its called effort. Kroll kicks butt
Ed Kroll is one of the best micro teachers at ECC. I am taking him now and hes unbelievably helpful and always willing to help w random questions or labs or anything that u need. he makes micro fun and shares alot of stories to help relate the topic to your life. TAKE THIS TEACHER FOR MICROBIOLOGY
Great teacher! He works his hardest to make sure that everyone understands the course. He's kind of a dork, but that only increases the entertainment value of the course and makes me come back to the class willingly. Very recommended!!!!!
Mr. Kroll is one of the most organized teachers I've had at ECC. He teaches information in a very linear fashion. His tests and quizzes relate directly to the lectures and labs. If you want to learn about biology, take Kroll.
He's a tough teacherrr.. you would really need to study your butt off for this class!
Face it, College Bio is difficult with any teacher. He gives you all of the information and is more than willing to help you. I studied before tests and got a high B.
One of the best college professors I have ever had. Extremely organized. Don't need the book because his notes are super organized. Yes, you have to study, but if you attend class all the time, it won't be hard. He is passionate about the subject. He's a GREAT teacher!
Very hard class. He makes the material harder to understand then it should be. Overall if you study your butt off in this class you well pass. He is a good teacher and helps out a lot more if you go up during his office hours.
He is a very good teacher. He organizes notes so they are easier to understand. Tough subject but could be harder with the wrong teacher. He really trys to make the subject understandable. He also writes all notes instead of powerpoint so easier to keep up.
This professor is organized, but is not helpful if you need clarification. He thinks bio is easy because it is all he has ever done and if you dont get it you are stupid. It comes across in his cocky attitude and makes learning from him difficult. Otherwise, it is an easy class if you study the notes.
HORRIBLE!!! I do NOT like this teacher. He has a very strick way of teaching. He makes you memories his notes word for word, in addition to the material in the book. His test are worded to confuse you and by the way they are hard. He does not help you when you ask for help. Do not take him.
Horrible. Gloated about the hard questions and large drop out rate his class had. Not helpful at all. Do not take
A great teacher. He tells you everything you need to know in the notes, he does not surprise you with anything. Raises your lowest exam grade to the next lowest at the end. He is cocky, but it's not that big of a deal. He is very passionate about the subject and truly wants people to learn it. But you must study. Don't really need the book at all.
Mr. Kroll is a good teacher. The tests can be hard but everything is given to you in the notes. If you show up to class it should be easy to get an A. He's kind of a goofy guy but he is definitely always willing to help anyone that needs help.
Had good notes, but needed to be a lot more clear. Since Mr.Kroll loves Biology doesn't mean that each and every student loves or agrees how fascinating biology is.
He was the best teacher I've had at ECC.
Very good teacher, one of the best I've had. He is very enthusiatic about biology and is always happy to help anyone. everything in his notes are in the test, i barely used the book at all. Just done be late to class, he hates it.
One of the best professors I have had in my college career. He puts all notes on the bored for you to copy down and is very clear and explains things well and very organized. He is nice and willing to answer any questions the best he can. As long as you go to class and copy the notes, you'll do very well on tests and quizes and get a good grade.
Such a GREAT teacher. People complain that his tests are difficult, but he gives a studyguide and clearly explains the topics, all that one needs to do to do well is study!!! If you are actually interested in learning something then take him.
Mr. Kroll was a pretty good teacher, His tests were kind of hard, but not unreasonable. He does use college level vocabulary, so prior to taking this class, study up on vocab. It's just like high school biology, but taken a few steps further and it is def possible to get a good grade in Mr. Kroll's class.
His tests are extremely hard and the averages were usually around a 70.Usually on the tests there's only 1 or 2 A's. He doesn't do any extra credit and there is very few points involved in your grade. His notes are brief and if you just study those you will not be successful, you need to be able to able them and understand them!
the class content is super hard but he is a great teacher overall. he is a happy guy but stays professional. very cool person and even better teacher. be sure to STUDY STUDY STUDY!!
Awesome guy and good teacher!! The material is really easy!! Just pay attention in class and take notes and you won't have any issues!!
SUPER EASY. Just go to class and take notes. Most of the homework is just lab work. Very clear and uses clear definitions. I would recommend him for any BIO class. Great teacher.
Nice guy, but I felt intimidated by him. His tests are very difficult (mostly essay and drawings) and he tends to switch definitions around, so memorizing won't help you in his class. If you take Micro with him, be sure it's the only class you're taking; it will require ALOT of study time.
He's a very tough teacher but he loves what he does and makes it pretty interesting!
Honestly one of my favorite instructors of all time. He's a little nerdy and loves to joke. Very knowledgeable and passionate about the subject. Lecture exams are very straight forward and comes straight from his lecture notes. Highly recommend.
I would not recommend this teacher. The material you learn is interesting and the way he teaches is good but the tests are what mess you up. they are not stragiht out the notes. Even if you studied the test will be almost mission impossible. I'm an A-average student and I received a D for this class. Do not take this teacher for BIO!!!!
I never got a solid foundation in biology in high school and was initially very imitated coming into his class because i didnt have have the background, but he is an awesome teacher and knows what he talking about. He explains things well with detail and examples. As long as you pay attention in class, take his notes and study a bit you'll be ok.
Overall great professor. I took micro and it was a pretty hard class. Although his lecture notes were key for me to do well on his tests. Don't miss a lab. It's not worth relearning. I would recommend him to a student who works hard for a grade. Nice guy with funny jokes. Tiny bit prideful about his teaching.
Kroll is one of the best at ECC. He knows what he's talking about and if he doesn't he is willing to find out for you. He will help you out if needed, but expects you to be serious about it. Expectations are very clear, unlike most teachers I've had at ECC. He writes his notes on the board while he lectures, tells you what you are expected to know.
Kroll was awesome!! He loves what he teaches and is willing to help. He doesn't give a lot of hw, but only because the notes are the homework: READ THEM OVER. Everything on his quizzestests are in his notes! Good notes and the book are a must. ALSO!! study for the lab exams. They seem easy, but there are some iffy questions that are sorta hard!
the class isn't easy by any means since it is microbiology. But he is a great instructor. A bit condescending at times, but he knows his stuff. He writes out his lectures on the board and his exams are straight out of his lecture. There is lab homework. From what I recall he drops your lowest test (but it may be a quiz). great teacher!
Made the class as understandable as possible. He understands that we were not science majors and really connected it to real life.
He's a pretty funny dude. the only word to describe him is "goofy". He knows his stuff. always will answer any questions at any time. If you're looking to major in biology then take him. Only complaint: He turns on and off the lights in the classroom around 100 god damn times every day to switch between the whiteboard and the power point.
Easily one of my favorite teachers at ECC. BIO-108 wasn't difficult at all as long as you showed up and paid attention to the lectures. Every lecture was well planned and he tried to tell some jokes to keep the class engaged. He genuinely cared about every single topic. I never liked biology but he made the class interesting.
To start, I really can't stand Biology. Kroll made bio a lot more tolerable. He is a complete dork in the best way possible. He is very passionate about the subjects he teaches and he is not afraid to make a joke in front of class to connect to the subject. There is a lot of material to cover in the class, so expect to study a bit.
Good teacher. Very clear about what he expects everyone to know and understand for testing. You have to show up so you don't miss any labs.
Amazing teacher take him!!!! Very clear expectations and grading scale. tests are based on lecture so as long as you study you will do great. only thing id change is he doesnt use d2l. you keep tract of your grade or you may ask him. but hes a great teacher i learned alot and hes very helpful and funny. Best teacher hands down!
BEST teacher I've ever had! He takes his work very seriously and expects the same from his students. I learned so much! When a teacher has high expectations (i.e. A lot of studying and hard tests) and doesn't baby you, that's when you thrive! His analogies to help you learn are so funny and helpful. He is THE reason I didn't drop out of my program!
Kroll is the best I had at ECC. His notes are very clear, and the tests come straight from them. As long as you show up, take good notes, and study them, you should be fine. The textbook is really only needed to refer to diagrams. He is passionate about the subject, explains concepts so that you can understand them, and makes lectures interesting.
On the first couple weeks of the semester he will tell you that you need to study at least 9-10 hours a week, so don't take a full load of classes if you want to do well. He does give you Study Guides on Mastering Biology and posts grades on there if recommended. He doesn't let you keep the quizzes. So, make sure you know what you got.
Kroll is a good person and a good professor. However, if you want a A or B in the class, you can't just rely on his notes. For his quizzes, you can rely on the notes but for the exam it's ALL CRITICAL THINKING. His exams are very tough.
good teacher but be prepared to study hard. very lecture heavy. labs were a joke, barely graded on anything. LOTS of tests and quizzes but that's better than having few cumulative tests (LOTS of information to remember). Got a B in the class so passing is very possible.
He is a good professor, if you study you will definitely get good grades. Homework is extremely easy. Labs as well.
Took this class in the summer. The best professor I've ever had. He really cares about where his students go in their career and wants you to earn your grade. Tests and quizzes were solely off his notes. Lectures were awesome. He always incorporated real life examples. I learned a ton from him and he made it my favorite class ever taken.
Excellent professor with clear expectations. The thing I liked about him is he's very knowledgeable. He tells you if there's an answer he doesn't know and he either finds out or tells you where to find it. It's very difficult to miss a class and still understand what's going on even if you get notes from someone else. Highly recommended!
Ed is one of the best professors I've had. He is very knowledgeable and always ready to answer any question; if he doesn't know the answer, he will research it and get back to you as soon as possible. His tests and quizzes are difficult but based off of his lectures and notes. You need to work hard for an A or B, but he will help you get there
Mr. Kroll is legit the best person to learn Bio from. If you're not a science major and is just taking bio as a gen ed then take him. I did not get Bio at all through high school, this man makes it understandable and fun. NEVER miss class, especially lab days, those are easy points that help your grade. Take good notes too, you'll pass for sure!!
If you study you'll be fine!
Ed is the best Educator. Period. You will not be coddled in this class. He's a very caring person but can come off as callous due to his expectations, (rightfully so,) of his students within this higher level course. The material is difficult. The course is weighted on lecture exams. If you can't apply the concepts, you won't be successful.
Kroll is a very nice Professor! He is honest, and I highly recommend him. You have to go to class but his notes are very organized and if you put in the time you can get a good grade. This is not a class you can study last minute for and do well. And thats not the teachers fault its the content of the course. I learned a lot and passed with a B!
Excellent professor - dry sense of humor, clear communicator, willing to address any questions about the subject matter, works to inspire students to gain a thorough understanding of microoganisms. Studied consistently (1hr ea. day), studied lecture notes, supplemented with youtube videos, practiced explaining to others often.
Ed was a really good professor. I had him for microbiology and he clearly states what you need to know. His teaching style is basically to give you the information but that makes studying really easy. If there was every something I was confused about I read the section in the textbook. On his tests he likes to have you draw lot of diagrams and pics
This professor is awesome. Take him. Great personality, interesting lectures, fair, funny. I am truly grateful I got professor Kroll for microbiology. Study and you will get the grade you hope for.
Kroll was an amazing Professor! Hes lecture heavy but makes his lectures interesting so you want to learn and retain the info. He gives memorable examples to apply your knowledge to the real world. Hes very fair in his grading; tough but fair. He is available outside of class to go over anything and grades pretty quickly for the most part.
Ed Kroll is a really nice guy, but his teaching style for this particular class did not hit home for me. It was pretty dry and felt like class dragged on and on... We had quizzes, lab exams, or exams every week, I swear. But, this class had no cumulative final, and he gave some extra points at the end that was really nice, but overall not great.
he is a great teacher! He writes everything on the board and makes everything easy to understand, you will definitely need the book mostly the online version because he will give you the picture number so that you can look it up on your own time. He gives one online HW and quiz per unit. Tests multiple choice with short and long response questions.
i loved him as a professor, he did a good job teaching and his tests and quizzes were not that difficult. all you have to do is go over your notes and you'll be good to go. he doesn't give out too much homework, and the one he gives is very helpful for the tests
Kroll is one of my favorite professors right now. He is very understanding if you have internet problems, and so on. He makes jokes occasionally which is nice because a lot of profs are serious and make the class drag. He only talks about what is important and if you do the assignments you'll succeed in the class. Love him!
LOVE Kroll. Will point you in the right direction on test questions if you prove you understand the concept. Take good notes, the tests questions come directly from concepts in his lectures/whiteboard notes. Best professor i've had, knows where students tend to struggle and slows down on those concepts. 10/10, wish I had more professors like him.
I enjoyed Mr. Kroll's teaching style. Attendance is mandatory, and he doesn't do extra credit. But if you pay attention to his lectures, study the notes he provides, and read the assigned textbook pages, you should do well. I found his lectures both informative and interesting. He brings his personality and experience to the class. Take his class!
He's great! I really enjoyed the discussion topics we had in lieu of labs(due to pandemic). Tests are straight from the reading but his notes do a better job of helping you understand the material. No late work accepted or extra credit offered but he outlines when you should do the work to a T so you can't forget.
Very funny and nice teacher. Took this class online but had to come in for labs which were a few but they are a must since they are a huge part of your grade.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IN THE SUMMER IF YOU WORK FULL-TIME!! I took this class in the summer and it was hard to keep up because I selected the lecture online and lab in person when I should have taken both lecture and lab in person. The class can be easy if you study his notes because most everything in the notes is on the quizzes and tests.
Likes to joke around and passionately lecture about Biology. There's too many quizzes and exams, sometimes even on the same day! Not sure if this is a department set up. The hybrid course is okay, you must teach yourself Biology and the lab is good (quizzes taken during lab on online material).
He is a diligent professor who provides good materials. All of the test questions would be on his lectures. You only need to look at the book if he tells you so.
Professor Kroll is a great teacher. Microbiology is a challenging class. You have to show up, pay attention and participate. You get what you put in. He provides excellent notes. If you need help, he is always willing to help you. The way he breaks down hard concepts into easy to understand steps is great. He made it fun, recommended!
Professor Kroll is great. He provides notes that you can follow along with and he is really passionate about what he does. He is always willing to help and accessible outside of class. If you put in the work you will be fine.
Mr. Kroll is a wonderful professor! He is passionate about Biology and even has a funny joke or two. He was very patient and accommodating towards my learning disability. He provides notes for the class which really simplifies the material. The class can be difficult at times but my advice is to study the notes for an hour every day.
I am someone who has struggled with biology at times, however, Prof. Kroll goes above and beyond to make sure you know what you are doing. I loved taking his class, I even made some friends! His lectures and labs truly are enjoyable. He posts his lecture slides and that's where material for tests/quizzes comes from so use them and participate too!
He is a very good professor, in particular, he gives great notes that are very helpful. Passionate about biology, patient, and the labs are very entertaining. Adds personal connections to the material, making it easier to understand the lectures and the content. If you take him in a hybrid course, the notes he gives are very helpful for the exams.
You need to attend class to learn the material that he teaches. He has study guides that we fill out each week and after 3 you have a test. (later on it's more than 3). You need to study between weeks and understand each unit for the exam. If you can study and take notes this is a very easy class. If not I don't recommend it.
Ed is a very fun and passionate professor. Makes lectures more engaging by telling personal stories that help with learning. He's very clear with what he expects of you and grades fairly in my opinion. There are occasional homework assignments that I feel help on the tests and quizzes. As long as you pay attention to lectures, you will do well.
Professor Kroll is a great educator, he really wants people to learn about micro and succeed, but also doesn't hold your hand. You have to put work in. His notes make the content very understandable, the topics are also very interesting. The course is very content heavy, you can't just show up and pass Study, participate, and you will do well!
I took Kroll for Microbiology in Spring 2025. He has quizzes almost every 2-3 weeks, while tests are at the end of the unit. His lectures are easy to follow since he uses guided notes, and most of the questions on the quizzes and tests come straight from the notes/lectures. Definitely pay attention to what he says during lecture, usually is on test
Awesome professor!! Krohl breaks down microbio in a way that anybody can comprehend it. Fun personality. He makes you work for your grade, so you won't pass if you don't study the material he taught in class. If you take the time to learn you will walk away feeling like you've really earned your grade.
I took this class as a hybrid (accidentally), so I can't speak on his lecturing skills, but in the lab he was okay. He likes to talk in order to avoid awkward silences, which I appreciated. He's easy to talk to, and I enjoyed chatting with him during lab. He put all his lecture notes on D2L so reading the book wasn't really necessary. Good prof.
Professor Kroll is very passionate about microbiology, he wants his student to succeed and learn the subject. His teaching style is great and always engaging with the students. This course is heavy on material and demanding on work, attendance is required especially for the lab project .Many students complain his wording on exams,IT'S NOT TRUE.
Great professor
Kroll is just a chill guy. Very clear lectures, very good at answering questions. After every 2 ish chapters you have a quiz, and then a week later a test. Tests are both multiple choice and written. He also informs you a week ahead of time about quizzes. No extra credit, if you know the answers you do if you don't you don't. Just study the notes.
