Falling... asleep...
LES TA AAAAAA LOOOOOHK! This guy is a piece of work. He is the worst instructor I have ever had excluding Bob Mcaulife.
Assignments and tests have nothing to do with what he is barely teaching.
One word... PowerPoint. If it weren't for the attendance at the end of the class, I doubt most poeple would show up.
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
He is an incompotent instructor. No one is learning anything in his class.
Quite frankly the guys an idiot (at teaching). If you like jokes, then take his class. He also has quite an accent.
Fell asleep almost every class, the most boring teacher I have EVER had! You'd be better off reading the slides yourself. But he includes attendance in his marking.
Reads directly from notes. Does not teach any material outside of book. Does not provide help in office hours. Expects students to know how to do work. Does not provide examples to assist in learning. Communication with him is difficult. Doesn't care
Dude read 1000 pages and answer whack obscure math formula messed up questions. This teacher blows he reads straight from the book which is completely useless. He offers no help and gives you hints like read the book and the answer should be obvious.
The guys reads from the powerpoint presentation. The class sucks big time. If you can avoid him, do so! You won't learn a thing from him, read the book, it is better.
LETSAAAAAA TEK'AA BRICK YOU LICKY BUCKETS!!! useless as instructor...... aaaaaaaaaaaaaand BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORING - your pillow will need a pillow
He pronounces his name Et Wat Lo its hard to make out what hes saying make sure if he says 13th he didnt meen 30th. Take your networking classes with Dave Mcarthy.
lets take a look! lets take a break!lets take a look!lets fall asleep! it is insulting having to pay money for this man to waste my valuble time on earth.

The majority of the class failed the midterm. He says it's our fault because we don't study hard enough. 40-50 hours a week is not enough? This guy is incompotent. Don't just avoid him, avoid UCFV because he is the only person teaching some CIS course
Ed is not a good teacher, heck he's not even a bad teacher. He is quite possibly the worst teacher I have ever had in all my years of school. He simple reads the notes (which aren't even his own). He teaches material not in the class text. ED SUCKS!!!

lets take a look at how to make a career out of using veena's notes and challenging yourself to put class after class into a coma by simply reading them. Picture of ed in dictionary under useless
Only reads notes. expects everyone to have the same knowledge about networking he does after the years of practice he has had. Tests do not at all test knowledge, just math skills.
Worst Teacher ever. No Assignemnt or even Midterm marks are returned.
Quite possibly the worst professor ever to grace UCFV. Lets take a look at how useless he is. He NEVER hands anything back, his exams are often completely retarded. I had one exam on Linux and 2/3 of the exam was on shortcut keys. No one studies those!
ed makes you wish Dr kevorkian was his lab assistant
Has an ego the size Jupiter. He's never wrong, students fail because they're not studying enough. He claims everything is obvious and students should automatically understand everything that he does.
From what I've found, a) I cannot stay awake through the 3 hour powerpoint lecture and b) his tests seem to test the most obscure stuff out of the book to insane detail, nearly impossible to memorize, and c) he can't answer questions by students in class.
*sigh* Poor Ed... if he is trying to make the student body miserable and lower everyones GPA, then he is the hardest working prof here. For $400, I can read my own powerpoint slide notes, thank you...
Recommendation for Ed Lo's class. Worked for me and three friends. After first 3 minutes of him reading Veena's powerpoint slide, leave, play pool for three hours, repeat next week. Night before exam, read powerpoints... ACED IT!
The last day of class he TOTALLY changed the term project. It went from a TCS study of one school, to a TCS study of 7 schools. BE WARE the horrible lack in commmunications.
Dude is crap. He just reads PPTs. Answers vaguely. Consistantly wrong in discusions. You will never get your marked work returned. He never marks the work, just checks to see if you filled in the empty space with ink. Don't think I failed either, B+
I thought some his classes were trivial he basically read off power points, or off online material. I could have done it at home, but he givesout attendence marks so its not like you can miss classes. Some of the classes had a little interaction butnotall

Before he should be teaching, he should learn how to speak English properly
Ed is the worst teacher you will EVER have. He lectures in some forgotten form of english.NEVER tests you based on your knowledge, rather on your ability to memorize useless trivia. The CIS department needs to get rid of this man ASAP for UCFV's sake!
Basic system hardware made useless. He specializes in finding irrelavant system specs, and then making you remember them. He's a nice guy, but his english is bad. He just re-reads his powerpoint slides (that come with the textbook) and his own "course notes" during class time. Labs are useless.
WHAT THE HELL IS WITH THIS GUY!! HE DOESNT MAKE ANY SENSE!! HE SUCKS!!
The only reason why people took this class with him is he was the only one who taught it. He makes absolutely no sense and offers no help whatsoever
The English I can handle, but what's with the TCS project? It's a major term project which he never discusses in class except to say there's a presentation on it the next week. The project can only be done by 2 people yet there's enough work to keep 4 very busy. Plus there's 1 1/2 hours of labs each week. Lectures add little to CCNA material.
How Lo can you go? .. well let's just say, nice guy but difficult to understand.
Blocked because of abuse of the system? No guys he is really this bad. Puts things on the mid-term that we havent covered yet, gives us back the scantron card to study from (A,B,D,D) yep, that's useful. Absolutely useless as an instructor. If he really cared about his students, he'd go back to the private sector.
Most ridiculous "prof" ever had. Teaching method: memorize text and all he ever read in comp-geek mag(but will not "teach" in class, just click text-supplied ppts and talk about his deals on gizmos) Can't have quizes to review because we're all cheaters and reminded of it every class. May get assignments back in time to be of use in study for exams
With the CISCO courses it would be more productive if he left off reading the powerpoints and just let the students read the material as he seldom if ever had anything to add to the material. I also found that Ed should work on his listening skills as he seldom was able to understand a students question well enough to answer it.
Lazy teacher who waits until the end of the semester to give your assignments back. This is the only class I've ever had where the multiple choice is harder to do than the written answers, because you need to memorize the most trivial details: how many pins are on the side of RAM chips that *aren't even used anymore*? Who cares?
well, He is very hard to understand, and doesnt really explain this well. he has a tendency to talk about absolutly nothing in relation to the course. he definitly should think about retiring early because he cant teach.
worst teacher ever had
Very, very difficult to understand. Does not present material well in class or teach students to understand it thoroughly. Offers all the components necessary to understand, but if you can't think it through for yourself, you're jolly well out of luck. If you can stand his ridiculous "security" measures and teach yourself the material, you're fine.
Why does he have such a low rating? I had to give him perfect on everything because he was a great teacher for CIS 190. Mind you, I love this course, but he was very helpful and available if needed out of class. The only reason I can see that he would have such bad ratings is from slackers who don't try.
Interesting guy, but definitely not what he should be teaching
I don't understand this teacher. He just read ppt (which I can do) and his midterm is nonsense. Furthermore, i don't understand the purpose of the lab. I don't get why do I have to do those stupid things
I received an A- in this class. I only came to class to write quizzes and do labs. Spaced out the rest of the time. He just reads the ppt, and I'm pretty sure they're not even original content.
He seemed friendlier this term, was actually nice to the students. His test questions were actually stuff that we should know, not the regular trivial stuff he's asked in the past. He's still not a great teacher, but he's definitely improved.
He knows the material, he's just a horrible teacher. All he really does is read the god dammed powerpoint slides. This is usually a good thing because it means I don't have to go to class, but this joker actually takes attendance. If I recall correctly, 5% of your overall mark is attendance! Unacceptable at this level.
cool teacher gets mad if you forget lab and print it during class time, quizzes every week easy course if you go through ppt and read the chapters
The teacher is really intelligent and he knows far beyond this joke of a class! The problem is not with the teacher, its with the crappy layout of the class! i mean, maybe its about time they change this course, and not make students feel like robot zombies!
questions on midterm and final were random facts that are of no use to anybody.
One word... PowerPoint. If it weren't for the attendance at the end of the class, I doubt most people would show up.
Avoid him! try to take his class during the time he went back to HK on vacation. That's the only chance you can have someone else to teach CIS390 at UFV.Those previous comments are definitely true...this man got the wrong career
His final exam highlights should be the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen... Everything! contains everything covered in this semester. He just listed all the subtitles of the chapters for us.
Couldn't understand him, the TA had to re-explain him to the whole class again MULTIPLE TIMES.
We are allowed a "journal" and are allowed to put anything in it and use it on quizzes. He goes over an entire powerpoint a class, covering every detail, including stuff that isn't on the exams. I write everything from the powerpoint down, then we get to the quizzes, and I, and 75% of the class gets between 30 and 60%. Avoid Ed at all costs!
First few months in the course I studied my ass off for this course and still got 60%-75% average on the quizzes. Some of the questions had two perfectly right answers, sometimes a student would speak up and debate with him and he ended up giving the whole class one extra mark. This should never happen at this level. He'd fit more in a highschool
Quiz's every week, teaches from power point exclusively, assignment are to tedious for their grade weight, pointless labs with no given context as to why you are doing them, and a final with per-determined segments. 1 hour for 60 multiple choice questions; you finish early, you get to wait until the 60 is up. 30% class struggled on time for final.
Most pathetic instructor ever i had
I think Ed trys to be a good teacher. His English is very poor, and you can read the content off of the power-pointtextbook very fast. A lot of the time he'll pick a point he just read and go over it in detail because it appears he is having trouble reading it. He IS friendly, and he marks fairly. He isn't the best CIS prof, but not the worst.
Ed is a good teacher. His classes aren't easy, but they are consistent. He has a quiz every day, which means you have to read the textbook. But the questions from the quizzes are also on the midterm and final, so it's helpful. The assignments aren't too hard. Class can be a little boring.
Worst professor anyone could ever go through . I have to repeat this class !! damnn, There should be an -5 rating for him.
bad lecturerm,avoid him
hardworker
Very hard tests/quizzes. Other wise he is a pretty good prof.
I took three classes with Ed, he's a remarkable character and a good teacher. If you welling to learn and improve your knowledge then take a class with him. One of the best profs in the CIS department at UFV.
Quiz every week. but good prof with knowledge and experience. Accessible outside and after class. If you study regularly A is easy
Ed has a great body of knowledge in data communications and you can learn a lot from him. Lectures are long, but are prepared well. Exams were tough because there was a lot of content to go over; I wouldn't underestimate them, especially the written portion. Quizzes and a group assignment due every week. Attendance mark taken at end of class.
quiz every week. m
The lectures are super long! Difficult to pay attention and hence you end up understanding nothing! Final consist of more than 25 Chapters! Get ready to read!
Ger ready to read a lot of text.
The lectures can be overwhelmingly long makes it difficult to concentrate. The syllabus for the final is unrealistic it is so much it is humanely impossible to memorize that much. If you study everyday you will definitely do well and ED makes sure you learn. He is a fair grader. I would say avoid if you can he can be hard for many.
The lectures were more like ramblings. The slides were outright unintuitive and unhelpful. Hard to understand what he was saying at any point really. It shows Ed Lo is an enthusiast in his field but not a good teacher. Uses online setting to justify giving you an increased workload.Weekly quiz+assignment with questions unrelated to what he taught
Hard to understand, poor English.
The lectures were boring and very long. Very hard to understand as well. Quiz/Group homework every week, ~2500 word paper, and made it due within a few days of the final exam so good luck with that. Online class but the final exam was in person. The final exam "highlighted/important" topics were basically the whole course and were 2 pages long.
I haven't had to study this much in any math class in University. Final exam was 2 weeks+ ago and we haven't received final grades.
Despite a Blackboard crash erasing my midterm, this professor refused alternatives (no marks given) and final grade/senate appeals weren't taken seriously. Had to retake the course, incurring extra costs. Grateful for department support, but overall, avoid this professor at all costs! - Rude (I have recordings) - Will find reasons to fail you
I would not take from Ed Lo again.
awful
STUDY>>>STUDY>>>STUDY Every Week quiz get ready to read. If taking him use Quizlet, thank me later. You need to just pass the final start preparing from start.
Mr. Lo's lectures are dull, if informative, and the biggest challenge learning under him will be a matter of managing your time and boredom. There's quite a bit of busywork and reading (100+ pages a week on average!), and while nothing he asks of you is particularly difficult, it can be very, very, (I cannot emphasize this enough), VERY tedious.
Don't, if you have even the least bit of love for yourself, take any of his courses. ALWAYS submits grades late but is very strict with submission deadlines. Useless classes - better off just reading the book, it's better explained there anyway. Don't expect any sympathy or humanity from this guy. Should have been replaced years ago. Reads off ppt.
For the love of god please listen to these reviews.
I know Edward Lo has tough reviews, but I took his COMP 390 class during my co-op, and he was decent. I was hesitant too, but if you understand the concepts own and over-explain your work in assignments (he values detailed explanations), you can pass. His midterm and final were fair and based on what he taught. Take him if you trust your ability!
I've known Ed for years and have heard all the horror lines from students about him. I took his online (midterm & final in-person) class Fall 2024 and it was honestly not bad at all. I actually think he's a lovely guy. He definitely knows what he's talking about. What I can say is that you must put in effort in your readings and assignments to pass
Another prof that doesn't write his own questions. Attend classes or he'll fail you. Lots of work assigned, but you're learning in the end. Just use quizlet and study the textbook closely. Exams aren't difficult but be prepared to justify your answers in exorbitant detail, you'll be fine.
Terrible teacher. First off it was online class but with in person closed book midterm and final on paper (also only simple calculator). Just reads slides for 2.5 hours for lecture. Attending and responding are mandatory during lectures that is worth 7.5% of grade. Also didnt mark weekly group assignments till after the final (2 questions per week
Only three weeks into a class with him and am questioning my life. Terribly long 4 hour online classes in an almost monotone voice. There is no way anyone is learning anything during this time. An insane amount of homework and quiz every week. Avoid!
Based off of my time in his course I'm guessing that anyone who takes his higher level courses either haven't heard of his horribly dry lectures or they are required to take the course with him because of time slots. I'd rather wait a year for a different Professor.
