Loves his work, interesting guy, just do ALL the work, COME to class and you will get an A. He has a habit of not being able to come to class on some days. Really friendly and understanding!

Loretto is hella cool. he's like the coolest teacher for history.
Funny, understanding, and genuinely tries to keep you awake in class by being interesting, unlike OTHER teachers.
Very easy class if you come. Test are easy. He didn't come to class for the first 2 weeks!!
Freakin' awesome. He mkaes the class interesting and entertaining.
I agree with everything below.. awesome guy.
I only took this class to get more units and fulfill a requirement before I graduated. This teacher is off da hook. I was just hoping to pass with a C but ended up with an A. Class was fun. He has a way of lecturing which makes the information stick. GREAT TEACHER!!
cool guy, easy work. midterms and final were simple if you knew your terms. rarely takes attendence (probably once every other week). midterms and final are vocab words while the research paper is basically your opinion on a book. highly recommend him for history.
what everyone else said below
He makes his lectures quite interesting and he has sarcastic sense of humor; I didn't see anyone falling asleep, 'cept the guy that was sick. I actually learned and retained information he taught. Highly recommended!
Amazing!!! His materical was clear and organized. He did a lot of powerpoint, but it wasn't death by powerpoint. I was so inspired that now I think I want to be a teacher. I thought the reading assignment sucked at first, but I learned a lot and even liked it afterwards. Highly recommened! I know I'm taking him again!
cool guy
Mr Loretto is very straight forward with what he wants. Do that and show up for class you've got an easy A, while learning history.
one of the best teachers that is at coa. funny, great conversationalist, and makes the class really interesting and fun. best teacher i ever had so far!
Mr.Loretto is HELLA cool! If you took him and didn't pass, there's something wrong!
LORETTO IS A VERY GOOD TEACHER. HE IS GOOD WHAEN IT COMES TO CLARITY.
His class is easy. Do all the work and get an "A". He makes you interested in learning US History. Highly recommended if your taking Hist7A/B. I also heard his ONLINE class is much easier (with similar hw as the classroom class).
In just finished his online class in last semaster. His class is crazy, high work load........... Lazy student don't take his class as well... But his works are clarity...
Great teacher! He loves history and his style of teaching makes its interesting to the student. I highly reccomend!
Took History 7A & 7B online while I was out to sea (active duty). He was very understanding of my cir****stance and worked with me when needed. Work load seemed fair to low, but I still learned a lot. I already had a strong interest in history so that helps.
He tries his best to engage students and make the material interesting with jokes and movies. Not too hard a class but you do need to study a lot for his exams and homework assignments can take a while to complete. Also there are some book reports which he can be a little inconsistent when grading. Just do the work and you'll have a good time.
Great teacher!! The course content is extremely well thought out and he is very good at helping out his students. Highly reccomended!!
class too crowd; talk too fast with slight accent, which makes it difficult to follow; huge amount of homework that is way too many. Be wise, go for someone else
Took his 7A history class online. Lots of work but fun! Good sense of humor and helpful. I'd recommend him.
took online course for winter intersection, lot of reading, and form rooming. easy if you do the work, the final is a power point on an important event or person in america, send power point over n thats it
He's very passionate and loves what he does. Few book reports, some homework, don't have to do the final essay if you've got an A. Only regret is I didn't try my hardest in his class, even though I went to class everyday. History USED to be a bore. I had a music class before his which I fell asleep in, but once I'm in his class, I'm wide awake.
Great professor I would recommend to anyone.
I took the online intersession 7b course. There was enough work to make me learn but not so much I was drowning in it. I liked the class, I learned far more than I thought I would. He seemed like a nice guy as well.
very lazy..helpless..very unorganized...stupid teacher..take forever to get response of question..
I took the online class and learned more than expected. There is no easy way to answer the answers without reading the material, but its our history so it ends up being really informative. He is fair in his grading, just make sure you turn in your assignments on time and in complete answers. Goodluck!!
Whew. I took the hist 7b and there was a LOT of work for this class. So much reading and writing and I felt like the questions he asked were really vague. He was very slow at responding to emails. He seemed like an interesting teacher at the orientation, I imagine his non-online class would be cool.
easiest teacher, but huge amount of work, lazy students, i don't recommend u take it, you are gonna suffer...
I took 7b online during spring intercession and it went well. Three different assignments were due about every 2-3 days. If you're lazy and want the easy way out, I don't recommend taking his intercession online. There was a good amount of work that I actually learned from doing it on my own.
Great teacher! I was not expecting the work to be so tough and involved. I enjoyed taking Loretto's online history class and I hope those who are considering taking a history class, take it with him. I most definitely learned a great deal from this class! I got my money's worth.
awesome teacher overall. enjoyable in class, teaching style is very comprehensible, and he even brings in outside materials (mostly videos) that make the class more fun!
He is ALWAYS LATE!! but other than that the class is really easy just 2 Essays which are book reviews some 2 Tests and some HW assignmenst not many. Do all assignments and book reviews and Pass the Class I failed the Tests and did like only 4 assignments and still managed to pass the class. Just do your work and your good.
Professor Loretto was very interesting in his lectures..he would try to explain historical events as enthusiastically as he could..2 3-4 page book reports/analysis papers, 2 exams, and a couple of hw assignments..dont have to take a final if you do well throughout the course which isn't really hard to do..IMO easy grade and an interesting class
He is great teacher, lectures with so much passion about HISTORY. There are two test and some assignments online, just try to work through the assignments, they are okay as long as you read the book and know the material from lecture. The test consists of essays and some vocabulary words. The class is manageable as long as you put in time.
Im currently taking history 7A. Loretto is a great teacher. His class is the only one I look forward to. You need the textbook for hw (GET THE BRIEF EDITION) and make sure to do the 2 terms papers. I have 100% for every assignment so far. He's very understanding and helpful.
Great teacher. Learned a lot from his lectures. Attendance not mandatory though everything from his lecture is in the midterm. We had 4 hw assignments from the book, 2 midterms, and 2 term papers (book reviews, any length as long as it's within the time frame, 3-5 pages). Easy A. I didn't have to take the final.
Easy A!!! 4 HW (I get 100% in this part), 2 book reviews, 2 midterm and final. He gives you 60 definition and 8 essay questions before the exam, and extract 10 items and 3 essay. Choose 5 definitions and 1 essay. Extra credit is to answer two extra definition. Waive final if HW + paper + midterm >= 90% (that is 81% of total).
This was an online class, but he was very helpful and as long as you did the assignments once a week, you were golden. 2 midterms, but no final and a few powerpoint projects; he was great.
I really enjoyed this class. If you complete hmwrk assignments & book reviews you will do well. He is one of the best professors, very knowledgeable and he always has interesting facts to share during the lectures. He completely changed my perspective on history classes & I actually looked forward to coming to class.
Great professor! I took his online class, be prepared there's a lot of work, in return you learn a lot. 2 test. Study, and put effort into your work and you will do good. I would like to take another class from him. I really enjoyed this class and all the assignments.
i took his history 7 online class and got a 100 percent on all the weekly assignments. each week we read a chapter, then answered questions about the chapter. there were some additional assignments that were not much. He is very helpful and his work actually taught me a lot about american history
Excellent and experienced instructor. Engages students in the online forum discussions. Very organized, grade work within a few days and post grades in moodle. Professor Loretto gives out a lot of writing/reading. Also required to do a presentation. If you are a history major take his class, the hard work is worth it. Fantastic teacher.
One of the best professors I have had at College of Alameda!! He has a passion for his field and it shows when he lectures.
He is an excellent storyteller. He goes into depth of the subject matter and is super passionate about it. The only problem I had with him was that he missed a lot of days. At least once a week or every other week. It's important the teacher is there.
I really enjoyed this class. Loretto is an awesome guy and is very engaging with his lectures as well as maintaining a stress-free class. And, if you have 90%+ by the final, you're waived from it! Highly recommended.
This professor is well organized and understands how an online class is suppose to be ran. For history majors this is a most take, or even for general education. Be prepared he hands out a ton of work which is always interesting, challenging and engaging. His assignments are not impossible. You will not be disappointed.
He is one of the best professors and lecturers I've had so far my 2 years at Peralta. He is very engaging and makes history damn entertaining as well as interesting. In turn, it motivates you to not fail him/ the class. So if history is a requirement for you or your major, I highly recommend that you take his class!
Great teacher. Knows what he's talking about, and keeps class interesting. History is pretty straightforward but he always had great stories to tell. He always prepared us for tests with a study guide so if you follow it then tests will be very easy. Also when I took this class if you got over 90% you didn't have to take the final.
Mr. Loretto is great! His lectures are very organized and his love for the subject shows. He's very aware of what it's like to be a student and is mindful of that when he assigns work. The study guides are a huge help. Use them! He doesn't take role, but you're missing out if you miss lecture, so be sure to go! Highly recommended!
This teacher is excellent!!! Very helpful understanding willing to work with you and his final is stress free. I am not a History person at all but Mr. Loretto kept the course interesting I actually learned something within this 6 week period.
Great course I am not a history person at all but Professor Loretto was very helpful and caring I strongly recommend taking his course.
Best History teacher I've had ever hands down! He gives an assignment once a week and helps you prepare for the midterm and final to a T. He makes his class fun and relates to his students well! His class is a MUST take!
I enjoyed his class, when it came to test there was a lot of material covered. However, if you study and do all of the work you will be fine!
This class was very fast paced and you have to read about two chapters each week in order to answer the chapter questions and such. There is a lot of discussion posts that you have to do and respond to as well. Very manageable especially in the summer because you could basically get everything done in two to three hours.
Took his online during summer which I thought was overwhelming at first but got the hang of it. Weekly discussions, forums, chapter questions. A lot of work but doable. Dedicate like 8 hours a week for this. Feels like he grades out of content rather than context but he DOES read what you write. Easy class if you're not overwhelmed.
Mr. Loretto simply refused to grade all of my assignments that had been submitted to him on time. I pasted my prior work into the requests for grading to make it easy on him, and still he didn't grade key assignments. He put as little effort as possible into the online class. I loved the subject (CA history), but wish I'd picked a better teacher.
I took him for an online class during spring. His grading criteria is very straightforward and direct. There will be about two assignments each week where you read a chapter and answer questions, the other where you describe or analyze a picture. 2 midterms and 1 power point project. He grades quick and you are able to see what score you received.
Even though I am not fond of American history, Loretto makes it really engaging with personal stories and interesting facts pertaining to it. He is very clear about his grading and always want to help students who are confused. Simply, if you do all the homework, and somehow pay attention to the lecture. This class is an easy A.
Best teacher ever! But wont pass the class if you don't do your work.
I hate learning about history but I loved this class. It was the right amount of engaging and the work load was not too crazy. It was the same process every week with a few exceptions of midterms, two (very easy) research projects, and movie reviews. I loved this class and I loved this online format. He is very organized and responds quickly!
I love the class & the professor, but don't take during spring intersession. We had only 3 days per module. Each module consisted of chapter questions, political cartoon or movie review, historical article, and discussion. I can't just produce mediocre work so for me it took a lottt of time, esp taking 2 intersession classes. Very fair teacher thou
I took his History 7A during the 3-Week Spring Intercession and boy was there a lot of work and reading. I was mentally tired after taking this class (laughs). You really have to keep up with your work and be consistent. He's not a tough grader but he wants paragraphic answers to questions about the readings. He's very clear on what he wants.
His online class is easy if you remember to do the work on time (you have a week) and ACTIVELY participate in discussions (don't write one sentence). Incredibly helpful (full study guide and project examples are provided) and easily accessible by email if you have any concerns.
I took professor Loretto's class during Summer. I think that his class was challenging only because of the homework load and the time and effort you have to put into his class. It'll be an easy class if you don't slack and wait until last minute to do his work because I think he expects a certain length on your discussions. He's well organized!
If you do all the work, this class is a super easy A. There isn't that much work for an online class, and it's thankfully not reading heavy. Every semester there are two midterms and two PowerPoints worth a lot of points. They really boost your grade if you do well in them! Weekly chapter questions and discussions. 675/750 points is an A.
Genuinely made history interesting. Has many personal stories of his visits to historical locations really adds to the experience in my opinion. His lectures are usual a mix of powerpoints and bits of media (bits of historical movies and documentaries of the periods). Would recommend Loretto heavily.
IT was an easy class. Took it online for summer and passed with an A. As long as you do the work, you'll get an A
Wow! He is stellar! I took him for intercession. Very easy class and learned a ton! This was the easiest way to get US history over with. There's two movie reviews which aren't bad everything else is like interpretation. Super responsive over email and helpful, hilarious. Can't believe I was stressed about this class. Final is fun and flexible too!
I really enjoyed History 7B Online. Took it for winter intersession. It was really hard because he gave a lot of homework to turn in for only three days. But the historical articles kept me going, they were really interesting and overall he just made history so fun. I recommend taking his class but you gotta stay on your game to get a good grade.
HW is reading the textbook and answering questions and submitted through Canvas. Exams are in class: defining terms, and answering 1 or 2 questions in essay format. Other assignments that makeup your grade: 1-3 Book reports on US history. He is very understanding so if you have questions, just email him. Easy A if you put the work in.
This class was really interesting because he is passionate about history. You need to buy and read the textbook. You need to show up to class to be able to learn the material.
I took the 18-day online version; understandably fast paced. He spells out exactly what he wants you to do, and grades promptly. Class was broken into 6 modules, which included 1 chapter of reading & 3 writing assignments each (1-2pgs/assignmnt). The final project was to create a 10 slide presentation (that you don't need to present, just turn in).
I enrolled in his online summer class and it was such a breeze, literally just do the work , read the textbook, watch the videos/movies, and you should get an A.
A lot of work. Be prepared to read, write a lot, study hard for the tests and PARTICIPATE in discussions!
Honestly, the greatest history teacher EVER. It may seem like a ton of work each week (Historical Article, Political Cartoon, Chapter Questions) but it isn't as bad as it seems. Professor Loretto allows you to learn so many ways (textbook, articles, videos) it's super helpful! He doesn't grade harshly, just read the material
The class can get a little boring at times, since we read out of the textbook for a lot of it, but for the most part it was well done. He is very clear about his expectations so, as long as you keep up with the work, you should be able to get a good grade in the class. I learned a lot!
