After taking the three classes I took with him, I feel like my writing has improved dramatically.
He is an awesome teacher. If you need help he gives it and he is big into the quality of what you have to say, not the thesis/premis crap. I wrote all my papers the night before and got A's on everything- he is not a hard grader at all!
He is a very good teacher but if your English is your second language, mostlikely you will not get A . I dont recommend this professor. Especially if you are taking fast track ( this note is for people who's english is thier second language ) If not I think he is a great teacher .
I was a much better writer than others but still got a lower grade. Why??? i felt a double standard. I don't think he's reasonable in his fast track 1302 class.
This guy knows his stuff, and if your work product isn't up to snuff he'll let you know, but he'll work with you if you put forth a genuine effort. Sign up for his coordinated studies course if it's listed.
I had Ed for the learning community class and loved the way he taught! He was very knowledgable about the subject (movies) and tied it in nicely with writing and our experiences in life. If you had a question, he was always willing to help out in any way possible. I highly recommend taking Luter for Learning Community classes.
Horrible!!! You spend a lot of time writing unnecessary papers (we had a total of 30! in a fast track class) and reading a lot of material that he never even covers. He says one thing and then 5 minutes later he says the complete opposite. If you can tolerate the indicisiveness and the extra work, take the class and stick it out...you'll get an A.
I ended up taking three english classes with him. He makes the class fun, but a lot of it is speaking in front of the class. But you get to know the people in class and after a few weeks it isn't intimidating any more. No tests, just writing assignments.
Great fast track class. Had a lot of fun. Learned a lot as well. Wasn't always easy I spent a good amount of time writing and re-writing my papers. I got an A, but expect to put some work in for one. Excellent teacher thought he was pretty amusing.
Honestly, if English is your second language then you will definately not going to recieve an A !!!!!!!!! If you aren't then i recommend u to take his class.. He talked a lot about his past.. His dad, uncle, his wife etc..But he knowledge not ( knowledgable ) about his subject or teaching style...
I think he mostly grades everyone based on their own progress. I read papers from a fellow classmate towards the end of the sem., and I found flaw after flaw. Every aspect was horrible. He got a b, for the class. I wrote like that in 2nd grade, and Luter gave me a b, as well. I had fun, regardless. Luter is a great guy. Buy that man a beer.
Note: Luter will bust you if you don't read the required chapters. So make sure you read them. He is entertaining and when he is paired up with another instructor, Carole Lester, he's great! I learned a great deal in his class. Do the assignments, that is why you are in school in the first place, and you will do fine.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE this guy. He is amazing and knows what he is talking about. Show up to call everyday and be on time. He gives extra credit quizzes at the beg. of class. I took him in Fast Track for 3 diff english classes. He is wonderful and he teel salot about his personal life, kids, and sports so you get a connection with him.
I love this teacher. Mr. Luter is the best teacher out there. I took him for 3 English classes and I had a wonderful time in them all. He really knows what he is talking about and makes his class interesting. I would suggest everyone to take him. There is some studying involve but it's not that bad. I feel that my writing skills has improved.
he's cool....but kinna pain in the but-t about grades
One of the best teachers I have had in my life.
Luter is absolutely FABULOUS! You want to take his class! I've taken two of his classes and am about to take a third. Your writing skills will improve a great deal and you will just fall in love with both him and the class. You will look forward to going to class.
G R E A T
If you think you even might be able to handle English 1302 in four weeks, do it. This fast paced course will get you through 1302 fast; you'll be glad you did. Ed Luter is fun and entertaining with lots of group work. Great!
Awesome!!!
Take this class only If you are excellent ESSAYS WRITER. Don?t take if you think; you can get help, get a good grade because you tried, English is you second language. This class will improve your writing but with a cost of failing or C. Not the class to get easy A or get help. six essays final exam, short answer reading (15 pages essay)
GREAT professor. Learned SO much in a fast paced 4 weeks. definitely take this professor. you will learn SO much but it's a lot of work. he makes you want to come to class though, and at the end, you'll be glad you did. Great professor, learned a lot about writing.
fast track, this guy is not organized, not helpful, old, and vary hard to make an A. English has to be your #1 strength. You will learn some good things about writing but,the negative out weighs the positive (10 to 90). If you don?t care about your grade and/or don?t need help this is the class for you.6 essays and final exam(15p.g reading short Ans.)
Stay away hard to make an A. Believe me this dude is cheesy. So old he can smell my Punany.Gave it all for this old guy, but all I got a smiling Ogre at my back. Some rating say he is great, all I can tell you is, he is 1 out of 5.Stay away students this dude left his tooth in the toilet.Stay away help will be there when you fail this class HayHay.
Great teacher. Wished i had taken him the first few times I took English classes. The ones that say he is hard are probably the ones that skipped class. Its an express class!! You cant miss any classes DUH. I hated english classes, but he made it soo easy. I recomend this class to everybody who has had a hard time with English classes.
He is a my worst teacher in my life. Don't take him. Hard A. Stupid. I never gonna take his class.
Don't take it. He is my worst teacher. I never gonna take him. Hard A STUPID!!!
Great teacher. This class is an easy A if you show up every day, turn in your work on time, put time into your work, and proofread your papers. Basically, you have to show you care about the class, and you will get a good grade. There are a lot of opportunities for extra credit with group work as well.
Very good teacher. He made the class fun, and made me enjoy writing.
His 1301 class was amazing. Take it! But I really can't recommend his 1302. It was extremely disorganized and inconsistently taught, I felt like nothing was adequately explained, and he barely touched on WRITING at all. Very frustrating class, especially after 1301 was so great.
Luter is great, and you'll learn a lot. I took Eng 1301, 1302, and Amer Lit and enjoyed 1301 and Lit the most. You'll do a lot of writing, but can make a good grade if you put time and effort (proofreading!) into your papers, and keep up with the assignments. Do the reading, show up to class, turn in the work. Helps if English is your first lang.
I took his Amer. Lit fast track. Naturally there was tons of reading, "A. Lit fast track" fine, but also he constantly had the class "put on shows". Everyday we had to get in front of the class and perform, usually on the spot. It appeared to me he does this to "ease" his own work load. If you did not like Speech class, you wont like this one.
He was my first college teacher, and still my favorite. His class is interesting & fun, but don't try to BS him. It won't work. Highly recommended.
He is a very nice guy, who genuinely has a passion for English. BUT-in hindsight I wouldn't have taken his class. He seriously did not know what he was doing. Class was disorganized and lacked a syllabus to know exactly when things were due. Oh and he requires you to do service learning, which takes a lot of time. He's a good prof. and I did learn.
Professor Luter was by far the best English teacher I have ever had. He dedicates so much time to helping his students in the english corner. I never enjoyed writing prior to taking his class, and was not very good at it. Now, writing comes easy. He drops your 3 lowest grades; the only way to fail the class is if you don't do assignments. Take him!
Professor Luter is quite simply, amazing. Not only did he work incredibly hard to teach this course, he was honest as well. Professor Luter grades papers with honesty and fairness. If you LISTEN, ATTEND CLASS, and GIVE EFFORT...you will succeed not only in this class but in writing in general. Take his class and don't look back. You will be amazed.
Fun and great teacher!
Professor Luter is a great teacher and a great man. He WANTS you to succeed and will try to make it as easy for you as possible! Do the assignments like he asks and show up to class on time and he'll like you for it and try to give you better grades. Awesome teacher.
Professor Luter was the best professor I have ever had! Going into this semester I wish all of my professors were like him. He is very helpful and you will get an A guaranteed as long as you do the work and give it effort.
I liked his class until he decided he hated my class. He has cussed at us and yelled at us. If he hates your class you will suffer. I am a hard working A student and from what I am told I would have liked his class if I had signed up for another time slot. He is also very unclear about what you must do for homework. Taking Ed is a gamble!
I took two class with Ed back in the 80's. I STILL talk about how awesome his classes were. We dove into literature, wrote essays and had round table discussions. College IS hard work- deal with it. Ed Luter is a great professor! He made a positive impact on me... I love literature and love to write!
I do not understand why people are hating on Professor Luter. If you show up to class, finish your reading assignments and follow the different essay structures, you will get a good grade. Anybody that wants an, "Easy A," will not get one unless he is a Henry James.
Professor Ed loves what he does. He honestly has been one of the best professors I have had. He really wants his students to understand what they are reading, and for them to be exceptional writers. I find it a blessing that I took his class. There is a lot of writing and reading but it is worth it, you will learn! THANK YOU PROFESSOR!!! <3
Dont take him. If youre very good at writing, then you can take him. He doesnt really teach us much about anything. Extra credit is useless and not helping to raise the grades. He is definitely not clear about the concept of teaching!!
He's not clear about what he wants in this class. The extra credit we did it all, and turned out is useless. He's gonna give you like 20% grades of the extra credit at the end anyway.
Yes, this class is a hard A. However, if it were an easy A, I would consider him a horrible professor. The point of college is NOT to BS your way through and then just expect an A. It requires WORK! He is a GREAT professor!
I love his class! Mr. Luter is such amazing teacher and he'll work with you if you work with him. Show up in class and do what you need to do. As long as you do this, he'll do everything in his power to help you out. Definitely not an easy class, but he makes it fun and interesting. TAKE HIM!(:
I learned a lot from this class. I worked hard, and earned an A. I would definitely recommend taking him if you want to improve as a writer. He's very helpful, and crystal clear on what he wants. I highly recommend taking his courses.
He taught me a lot. The reason lots of people don't like him is because you do have to work hard. If you are already a somewhat good writer then you shouldn't have a problem. The only really annoying thing was this PLP assignment which took waay too long and really didn't help anyone. His final is just an essay about what you've learned.
His class itself is not hard, but the course in general is. American Lit is very boring, but he tries his best to keep it interesting in a discussion-type course rather than a lecture. He is a very nice guy and very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the subject. He is not really clear on his assignments/test, so be cautious about those.
The prof. is very hard, it seems you got to come with intermediate or above avrg. writing skills to get A or B. He is different in the way he teaches, there is lots of class discussion and having to read your essays to the whole class and other time to your group. Most student who seem to enjoy him are student with high writing skills.
Best English professor I've had. Very knowledgeable and is quick to help if you need it. Awesome lectures and engages with students. I would ABSOLUTELY recommend.
I didn't get a lot of feedback on my writing, however I do realize he has a lot of papers to grade. He gave extra points and many grades based on effort and completion. Attendance isn't required unless you miss more than six classes (for TTh or MW classes). Overall, he was an entertaining (lectures) and helpful (tutoring) professor.
Took the online class, and it was extremely difficult. His lectures are so long, and when I asked a question, he would say to "read it again and ask your peers they should have understood." Though I am sure he is a great professor; just not online.
He was such a great teacher, there was a lot of homework but it was all worth it in the end.
Prof Ed Luter marks you down terribly and pretends he is given you extra marks. His final grade is confusing and disappointing. He does not respect the grading criteria he sets. An additional requirement can be hidden in the rubric which will be used against you without it being communicated at the beginning of the assignment.
I've earned "A" in professor Luter's class. He is an amazing instructor!! Loved his lectures, clear on instructions, I could ask questions as many times as I wanted. He will sit down with you at English corner, reply emails, and make you understand until you get it. You just have to show up in class, LISTEN to his instructions carefully.
Prof. Luter was very disrespectful when giving feedback on essays. He made me feel every essay was a sorry essay and didn't give positive feedback on doing better. Honestly worst online teacher I have EVER taken. Definitely do not recommend his English 1302 online class. Textbook was not necessary. He is not considerate that at least you do essays.
Professor Luter is the MAN!!!!! Sure he has a bunch of corny dad jokes that will make you laugh once in a while, but you WILL LEARN in his class. If you show up and listen, you're guaranteed almost guaranteed to pass. As of today my grade in his class a 107 because of all the extra credit he provides. Will definitely be taking him for 1302!!
Best professor I have had yet. I have been out of school for 10 years but Professor Luter helped make my transition to CC much more smooth than expected. I agree with the dad jokes haha but his lectures will keep you coming to class everyday. He gives everyone multiple chances to pass, so if you fail, it's definitely on you.
Awesome prof! So many other English teachers seem concerned merely with checking off obligations that I normally equate English class with arbitrary tasks and standards Ill never see outside of school. But not only does Ed focus on skills well actually need in the real world, he accommodates our incoming skill levels. Gold standard of fairness!
I took Mr. Luter's class a year ago. I found his teaching to be extremely helpful, and a course that I will always remember as a favorite. My only complaint was the inclusion of multiple group activities (an assignment that always feels out of my control). All in all, a great choice. I only wish that he taught beyond ENGL1301...
This class is no walk in the park. I have nothing but the utmost respect for professor Luter. This was an accelerated course so there was homework every other day. I took his 1301 course and also his 1302 class and to this day he is still my favorite professor. Unfortunately, I am done with English classes so I can't take any more of his classes.
Prof. Luter is a very good teacher, however, he can be a bit critical if you are a conservative. his views are far left. if you are a conservative I would suggest you keep your views to your self to not risk any influence on your grades. just a precaution. I think he just does it because most of the student are minorities.
By FAR my most favorite professor at Richland. I applied what I learned from Professor Luter's course, and used it on my essay portion of my transfer application. I got into EVERY school I applied to!!! The class is not easy but he helps those who try... Just show up to class and work hard and he will help you out.. Thanks Professor Luter!!!
Professor Luter is amazing. he give great feedback, makes the class and discussions truly fun and interesting
Ed Luter is an amazing professor. The textbook is more of a regular book that is short and concise. He will talk to you outside of class if you need help. Make sure to show up and do your part in groups though, because he will know. Overall, a great prof.
I took his American Literature class covering the Beatnik generation of writers. The class was super interesting and the assignments were easy. He encourages out of the box thinkers and loves when you get creative with essays. Would really recommend if you value good feedback from your writing.
Professor Ed is a though grader but he values the effort of his students. He will help you if you show interest in his class. Any questions about how to write a paper? just ask him and he will be happy to help you
Probably one of the hardest English classes I've ever taken. He assigns lots of homework, don't be surprised. He is a very tough grader and honestly not sure what he is looking for. He gives good feedback if you show interest in writing and really improving on writing. Make sure to come to class even though it's boring. Overall, not terrible.
He is one of the professor i never seen in my career yet, he is not helpful, even he dont reply you when you emailed him,he has to bad attitude and all,I follow his all instructions to right my paper but after that I didnt get good grades,he put lots of assignments ,i never recommend any one to take his classes, if you do you will get hard time.
He is one of worse professor ever i seen yet, Not recommended anyone yo take his class ever if you do you will get lots of hard time to pass his course . So guys plz beware from this professor!
I took the seven weeks course. Beware LUTER super TOUGH grader! So many papers to write in discussions, group peers and essays. Work DUE EVERYDAY, no flexibility and ZERO points for work turned in late. E-textbook required, read ahead! Get very familiar with MLA format and annotated bibliography! Good Luck, youll need it if your no English major!
Professor Luter is very knowledgeable and cares about the students in his class being successful. There are assignments EVERY SINGLE DAY that are due. I made the mistake of thinking these were suggestions, but they are not. Overall, keep up and you'll do well. I learned things in this class that I will use in my writing forever.
If you take his class beware he does not forgive anything, he is not flexible. You are expected to keep up, and if you miss work you might as well drop the class right then and there. He is one of the worst professors I have had. I generally enjoy the subject, he changed my mind. One of the worst college experiences I've has so far. Never again!
Professor Luter is open to creative writing. I like the fact he provides a list of topics from which to choose. The subjects and topics were thought provoking and interesting. You may read and learn something in this course you never encountered before. There is a lot of reading and writing. Be sure you have enough time. I highly recommend him.
Never been good at writing papers but did amazing in this class. Topics are very general and wants you to write about what you are passionate about.
I liked him but he never responded to me.
Professor Luter is by far the best English teacher Ive ever had. Today was my last day in his class and Im honestly kind of sad about it. His workload is manageable, he gives GREAT feedback, hes friendly and he even brings a little surprise to class everyday to help us emotionally. As long as youre ok with critique, take his class!
Professor Luter probably cancelled at least 25% of our classes this semester. He moved up due dates for large papers at the last minute. He also posted additional quizzes and work that he neglected throughout the semester until 7:00 pm on the night all work was due.
Mr. Luter is a tough leader, but in reality as long as you try he grades reasonably. Just make sure you're communicating with him whenever you're struggling. Just 3 major essays and 4 smaller essays. Passing this class is achievable, just do your work.
In-person Spring 2022. I loved Professor Luter's class. 50 years' experience shows. Grades on improvement and completion, not excellence. His lectures tend to wander, but there's always a point. Take notes! Notebook graded Most papers have a word LIMIT. One of his main focuses is clear, concise writing. If you show up, you'll do well! Dog in class
Professor Luter's class was the best part of my week. If you are self-conscious about your writing skills, Don't be. His feedback is constructive, and he grades on improvement. Be honest with him and ask for advice when you are unsure. Also, do the homework so you aren't bored in class. PS: You will love his Handsome Teaching Assistant.
Keep your eyes on your dog at all times
I will not lie I am a lazy student but Professor Luter was very helpful, he was a easy grader and gave you feedback on your essays. We had essays due every week which sound horrible but that's any English class. The only reason I ended with a B was because I would procrastinate and turn in some essays late. I enjoyed seeing his dog in class!
Overall, a great professor, I would've liked to take him in person though. He gives amazing feedback to his students about our essays & encourages us as writers to keep growing. English online is about as tedious as it sounds but he did the best he could & his lessons were relevant. Only downside is he slow at grading but lets us know he's behind.
Prof Luter was a great teacher, he was very informative and kind. He is a harsh grader on papers but gives you a clear outline and tries to help you pass. He gives great feedback.
Luter is a very good teach but he is a very tough grader you must put in the effort if you want to pass his class this will harder then any english class you have previously taken so be prepared
The reason I rate him so low is because of his tough grading and him not listening to my feedback. I had asked him 3 times to put examples up for his writings. He was very UNCLEAR about what he wanted from us, so I asked him to put up examples, HE NEVER DID. Luter, you are a great speaker but please put examples in all your writings.
Professor Ed is genuinely a good teacher in a professional perspective. He wants his students to get the best grades attainable. However, if anyone's taking his class, please be cautious. Make sure to revise on avoiding grammar and punctuation error when writing essays. Get familiar with MLA format and grammarly.
Professor Luter is a good teacher, he is a tough grader like many mention. You have to attend each class in order to know whats going on and do each assignment. He also makes you read a book along the course. He requires most of his work in MLA format.
Good professor just make sure not to make grammar mistakes (use Grammarly) and to read assignments CAREFULLY. He is nit-picky but he grades fairly and will help you with assignments if you reach out to him.
Professor Luter is a tough but fair grader. His feedback is constructive, and he grades on improvement rather than perfection. Use Unstuck study and take notes in class - it'll help you stay on top of the work.
Cons: Lectures that do not relate. I did not sign up for a course about David Goggins. No Phones!. You can't fast-forward these boring lectures with the use of your phone. Weird and annoying grading criteria. A lot of draft papers. Pros: Made us watch a Taylor Swift music video Yeah, don't willingly take this class.
Professor Luter is a good teacher. I don't think he grades too hard. Just go to class, do what he says, and follow the instructions. If you do that, you'll get an A at the end of the semester.
