He teaches everything in such a simple and easy to understand way. However, that doesn't mean that he is easy, matter of factly he is quite difficult. Will purposely do things so that people who try to memorize stuff will fail.

ahhh watch out for quizzes and tests THEY SUCK, but he is a good teacher
His tests and quizzes are tough and he kind of rips through things in class but he is interesting and he makes chemistry more interesting.
Great teacher, but make sure to watch out for the tests and quizzes. They can be pretty tough, and if you don't know the stuff you'll be in trouble. Otherwise, his lectures are great and you'll learn a lot. If you're interested in really learning chemistry well, get him. If not, pick someone easier. :)
Made me more interested in chemistry, very smart man.
An amazing instructor, and a man of divine faith. He treats the students like family, except for he's kind of a strict dad. Like others have said here, if you're interested in chem then you will come into a windfall of knowledge. However, you still might even only make it out with a C if you're lucky, even if you got an A last semester.
wow, if you can survive a neeland class you can survive any class... nuf said
WOW. This is one professor that you should not miss. He is very difficult and sets high expectations, but it is not too high. He is extremely intelligent and helpful. Semi-genious.
An excellent but challenging prof! Take his class if you are genuinely interested in Chemistry, he will give you a good feel for the subject matter. Study for all tests, including quizzes, he likes to scare his students into studying by making them extremely difficult. Also go in for extra help - he is always around his office, and is VERY helpful!
Great Teacher! Quizzes will kill you unless you study your butt off, but tests are usually fair. Almost always in his office for extra help, and crazy smart at basically everything. He will make you like chem more than when you started
Awesome teacher, can be quite funny at times, and is very good at explaining concepts. Uses great analogies to get the concepts through. Tests/quizzes are hard, but doable if you study hard. The carrot rule can save your life as I learned.
All i know is this class made me interested in Chem. And i have decided to take it as my Major. The teaching was great, everything was explained cleary, and he is extremeley helpful. what more can a student ask for?
Dr. Neeland is such a good prof but he is so tough on his quizzes and tests.Unfortunately i did not make it. You you are going to have to work very hard to pass, and that includes going to his office weekly. Chose an easier prof (especially) if you are not going into chemistry or don't have the extreme dedication and perseverance required to pass.
I tried to pass this class but I failed miserably. The workload is just completely insane and I'd say most people just aren't ready for it. The textbooks used are also rather boring. If you don't have a burning passion for chemistry, avoid/drop this class and get something reasonable. You'll thank me later :)
Good prof Very hard quizzes and tests They got easier as things went on Study really hard ask for help if you dont understand anything and you should be able to do fine. Im not very interested in chemistry and not very good at it but i still came out with a high 70 so its possible I would take his class as prep for future years!!!
Hez awesome

Definitely my favorite prof! Tests are difficult but not impossible if you prepare; I didn't even crack open the cover of one of my textbooks. Very interesting, I actually looked forward to the lectures even though they were at 8am!
I have mixed feelings about Neeland. He does make class very engaging & is helpful outside of class, but his quizzes are a blow to everyone. He made a few innappropiate jokes too. He is funny though, in a very cynical way :)
He knows what he is talking about. You'll learn alot from him, but at the same time, he'll expect alot from you in quizzes and tests.
Awesome teacher! knows what he's talking about!
Always attend his class. Do not miss his class unless you have a very ligitimate reason. You will miss lots if you did. very crystal clear mind. One of the few profs who knows his stuff. Very fair marker but his quizzes are such that makes you think. But it all pays in the end. I guarantee you will learn chemistry under him.
Quizes are very difficult. Midterms are fair if you study. Final is what you make of it. If you study alot you'll do fine. Only take his class if you are very interested in chemistry and are willing to do tons of practise problems.
Not a fan...
Lectures are amazing! But when it comes to quizes, mid-terms and exams, they're just waaaay too hard, and when u look at ur notes and compare to what he brings in the tests not all is useful. U need to study extra hard to get a good grade
Quizzes and midterms were very difficult. Lectures are amazing and his explanations were crystal clear. Very helpful during office hours if you have questions. This year's final was surprisingly easy relative to old practice exams. Neeland is a total hard ass when it comes to difficulty of exams but you'll really learn organic chem from him.
Good teacher, but his quizes are impossible and his midterms and finals are incredibly difficult. Our class average on quizes was about 42%, and thats "one of the highest". He seems to take pleasure in making impossible tests. Yes, you'll learn organic, but his exams are far more difficult and stress-provoking than need be.
Great Prof, willing to help anyone who will put effort into the class. Class itself was really tough, but I learned a lot and would definitely recommend it!
Worst EVER!!!
Neeland is an amazing prof. He really knows his stuff. You will either excel or fail his class, there is no in between. His lectures are fabulous and he is incredibly helpful outside of class. Basically... if youre a memorizer you will fail, if youre a thinker you'll do great! Be sure you dont just memorize reactions, be able to do the mechanism!!!
He is a very good prof. but it's Organic Chemistry so it's not easy! He is very helpful and his lectures are very easy to understand. If you attend every class and pay attention you will have a good grasp of the material.
Horrible!!! GPA crusher... It is NOT the material despite what people say. His lectures are interesting and he knows what he's talking about, but do not expect to be tested fairly - teaches concepts then extrapolates exam and quiz questions past what any other 2nd yr ochem student is capable of doing
i was only in the class for a couple of days, but i know i would've liked it had i stayed in. i dont even like chemistry, but i wanted to stay in that class cause he was just so awesome. i only had to drop because i needed a different class.
Excellent prof! Is extremely in tune with how students' brains work, and knows how to explain everything in such a way that almost everyone understands. Is quite egotistical, though, and brings religion into the classroom often when it doesn't belong.
Best. Prof. Ever. He makes chemistry somewhat interesting with all the way he lectures. Quizzes and midterms are easy A's if you do his homework and pay attention to the little tips he gives during lectures.
Makes chemistry enjoyable, goes over material really well in class. I went into uni hating chemistry and now I'm actually considering minoring (or whatever) in it.
Best prof I've had all year. Entirely fuels interest in the class. If he is available, take his class.
Best prof whole semester. Really easy to understand and is entertaining
bEST PROF EVER really entertaining and has really clear view of what he wants to teach and how to teach it
One of the best chemistry Profs!! He is really clear when he is explaining and makes the lectures really interesting. He always encourages his students to work hard and seek help if needed
Neeland's a great prof, he makes you actually learn and understand the material rather than just getting a good mark and having no idea what you spent $500 on. If you don't understand something in lecture, he's great at explaining things outside of class and very approachable. If you are willing to work for your mark you'll do fine.
Prior to his class I have never had an interest in Chemistry ever before. After attending his lectures, I finally understood the concepts of chemistry! He makes it easy to understand and his exams are based on his quizzes thus making it easier for you to study for. He also goes over the test papers with his students!
Dr. Neeland is a great prof, and people who complain are the ones who aren't willing to take responsibility for their own lack of effort. If you practice the concepts and see him when you are struggling you will do fine in his course and learn a lot.
Passionate prof who expects the world out of his students. Be prepared to work long long hours. His exams are extremely difficult, but if you improve your grade, he will be fair and take the improved grade and ignore your bad start. His lectures are fun and clear. But he expects you to live and breathe Organic Chemistry
Easy to understand, and makes chemistry intresting and fun. He dosent stand up at the front and simply read the textbook, he explaines things from his mind and makes it super interesting. He's my forvorite Proff so far. I almost feel after I complete the class I'll be an expert, thats how much I'm learning from him. You want this guy!
Probably the best prof for first year chem, goes very fast but gives you all the info you need. Do the textbook problems and as many practice tests as possible, hard tests just make sure you go to lectures.
clear concise and to the point. really bridges the gap between textbook and student. Breaks concepts hat seem difficult down to the fundamental level and makes them easy!
Professor Neeland knows what he's talking about in his lectures. However, he does have his faults. Neeland's online material on Connect is very disorganized, and there is not a lot of information to access, aside from old tests and very sparsely detailed PDFs. In hindsight, his tests were fair, but they were definitely hard.
Ed was a very good chem prof. His tests are decently hard but very fair as he does a good job of covering the material. I would recommend him over the other first year chemistry profs for sure, it's a no brainer! Take his class if you have the chance! Actually makes chemistry fun!
I really like Neeland as a prof, he does a really good job of teaching you the skills you need so that you can apply your knowledge to a broad range of questions and situations. his test are hard but fair, if you are bad at test taking then you may have a harder time like I did. but over all he is a really good prof and i would recommend!!
Great Prof! His lectures are amazing, and easy to understand, but his tests are hard and he's very strict. Easily one of my favorite Profs so far!
Awesome prof, has a true passion for chemistry and brings it to every lecture! He really wants you to understand the material as well and expects hard work to do so!
soo interesting and funny haha best prof at ubco!
Needland's tests are ridiculously tough. Don't go in expecting to achieve an A+.. He is an amazing professor and his lectures are very interesting and his class is defiantly worth taking but you've really got to put the work in!
By far the best prof I've ever had, hes funny, entertaining, interesting and an amazing instructor. He explains everything very well and does a great job at it. His tests are hard, but fair, you need to put in the practice and effort to do well in this course, as with any other..!
A little disorganized and scatterbrained (doesnt follow the syllabus or textbook) but by far one of the best professors at UBCO. Put in the effort and you should do reasonably well. He teaches you how to break the memorization habit and actually think. Amazing prof. Helps that he's hilarious too.
Best prof at UBCO! He's a really good teacher and super helpful if you go to see him in his office. Tests were brutal but fair. Definitely not an easy course but you get a great prof.
Neeland is a very awesome prof. He makes the lectures interesting and really knows his stuff. But his tests...so hard. Don't expect to do well just by studying his notes. He gives super easy examples in class and then just kills you on the quizes and mid terms. DO THE TEXTBOOK QUESTIONS! Get a white board and practice reaction after reaction!
Hands down best prof at UBCO!! Take his class if you can! His tests and quizzes are definitely not easy but he's an amazing prof and will make you love chemistry. He's always very helpful if you go to see him in his office and seems to genuinely enjoy teaches. Would definitely recommend!
Neeland is the reason I fell in love with organic chemistry! He is an incredible prof who is very engaging in lecture, is always available after class for extra help AND he posts a ton of old material on connect. His quizzes are incredibly challenging and so is the rest of his course material, but if you work at it, you can do well in his class!
He is one of the best prof I've ever had. Do not expect to cram for any test. Not even a quiz! You will need to study everyday and love the subject to do well.
No guidance where to look for practice problems other than in SL. Can't make it? Prof has a "too bad" attitude. A LOT more detail on exams than given in class. Prof condescending: said the material was easy. MT 2 average: 40%. BAD NOTE giver, record lectures. Get a tutor. Go to SL, or you WILL fail. Follow advice: I got 50% on MT 1, +80% on MT2.
A pretty funny guy. One thing to watch out for is his quizzes. He purposely makes them hard so that he can back off a bit on the midterms. The average quiz mark is somewhere around 40%.
If you're taking first year chemistry, do yourself a favor and get into Neeland's class. He rode his motorcycle into the atrium on the first day of class, and it only got better from there. Lots of examples, good jokes, and interesting and funny demonstrations to make basic theory easy to understand. Tests are challenging but fair, with feedback.
Truly cares about his students, exams and tests are hard but fair if you prepare for them. Can throw curveball questions out of things you have only seen once or twice, but overall makes you apply concepts and think for yourself. Available outside of class, fair marker and actually wants his students to succeed. By far favourite professor to date.
Ed Neeland is my king. By far the coolest person working at UBCO. Unbelievable lecturer who engages students to the point where Chemistry-haters can begin liking Chemistry. Explains concepts in a very straight-forward manner and is one of the nicest profs outside of the lecture hall. Please take his class, you will leave a better person.
Amazing prof. Listen to every word he says because he always has bonus questions on his tests. His lectures are very organised and he tells you exactly what to study. Make flash cards because they do indeed help. Although he seems intimidating if you go see him in his office he will make sure you understand it when you walk out of there.
I don't understand the fascination so many students have with Dr. Neeland. I don't find him funny, I don't find him helpful, and I don't like the way he teaches. I basically taught myself everything from the textbook because his notes were always so confusing. His tests are tough but doable with lots of practice. I got an A+ but not thanks to him.
I can't figure out the fascination some students have with Dr. Neeland. His tests are ridiculous. He deliberately tries to trick you and tests things unrelated. Some things he teaches the textbook blatantly contradicts. Very stubborn and stuck in his ways. I'll admit he is a great lecturer and thus his lectures are engaging and a MUST attend!
He has a "my way or no way" type of teaching style, so you really have to pay attention. He presents lectures by drawing and using the doc cam, so show up to class if you want the explanations. Tests are tricky, quizzes are really hard. Helpful in class and during office hours if you ask. Lectures are sometimes entertaining.
Good prof!
Hilarious, engaging, witty, knowledgeable, and gives challenging tests. Undoubtedly one of the best profs at UBCO. Will make you work for your marks. If you do, you'll be fine. Don't even try to memorize. Do practice problems like crazy. He's super nice & helpful in his office. DO NOT SKIP LECTURE - they're crucial (no textbook), thorough, and fun!
Great prof, makes the lectures interactive and interesting so you actually pay attention and don't just fall asleep. He posts tons of past quizzes and midterms online which make studying so much easier. All the quizzes and midterms were very fair and he's always in his office and will answer and explain any questions.
favorite prof worst class, aka the class is obviously going to be the hardest class ever since its organic chem. he is really helpful if you go and take to him, he will help you pass if he sees you trying and struggling GO ASK FOR HELP. doest use a textbook so go to class
Neeland is a great prof!! Definitely would recommend for first year, as his lectures are comprehensive and funny. His midterms and quizzes are tough if you don't study a lot, but very valuable in teaching you what classes will be like in upper years. My favourite prof so far.
Neeland is excellent. His lectures made chemistry more interesting than ever before all the while being funny and clear. He's an fantqstic presenter and very passionate about the material. Would definitely take him agin. Best prof I've had.
Dr. Neeland is a great lecturer. He knows the material and very good teaching method, but good luck if you ever have to deal with him personally. He is very unreasonable, and insensitive when it comes to issues concerning unfair marking, and exam deferral.
Great prof, understands and communicates material well however, tests are fairly difficult. Studying is needed. He is open to you seeing him in his office hours and is a very helpful guy. Sometimes moody.
Very full of himself, notes aren't that great either, but he tries to make class fun which is a positive.
Neeland is a genius, he knows it, and won't ever let you forget it. You will love him and hate him at the same time, all year long. His tests are way too long for the time we have to answer, he LOVES trick questions. His lectures are good, but OChem is a hard course, you need to practice on your own time or you won't do well.
Favorite prof that I've ever had. Makes lectures super interesting and he's really funny. Always has his office open to help and he's very approachable and easy to talk to if you have any questions. Definitely hope to take future courses with him.
He is available outside of class time, great lectures, but his exams test the oddity of each topic taught. Prepare to work harder for a decent grade than you ever have. Never skip class. Take down everything and anything he says in your note book. The exception to every rule is what you'll find on your exams. Good luck, you'll need it!
I am commenting 5 years late on this prof. He is an amazing professor who is extremely passionate about his lectures and his PROFESSION! He always talks about interesting relevant things is class and when ever he suggest us to do anything to practice what we learn, we should do it! Easy to approach and takes his time with everyone who ever has a Q.
Good prof. Hard quizzes. Somewhat easier midterms and finals. Funny, available after class. Very good teacher.
Great lecturer. Readily available to explain material in class and outside of class.
First impression, pretty good. Lectures are engaging. He does, however, seem to have a minor god-complex/sadistic tendencies. His quizzes are impossible and his midterms are brutal. He has zero sympathy for students, and once he asked a student in class who didn't follow instructions if he was "mentally challenged." No filter, really.
He explains things well but there's almost always something condescending or sadistic or slightly sexist. is known for being rude to students. He can be found in his office and is willing to help but hes not that good with logic. Hes the king of the fallacy. Midterms are fair-ish but quizzes are impossible. good luck!
He is really interesting to listen to and attending class is mandatory to do well. Exam content is really difficult to predict, the difficulty can really vary depending on his mood when he writes the exam. He likes to make up stories in his lectures, don't believe everything he says.
Dr. Neeland is an amazing lecturer full of enthusiasm and interesting/funny stories about chemistry. But he is not a person who would ever stroke your ego, no matter how well you do. He's proud of how impossible his quizzes are. Any minor comment in class can be on the test so take notes! Readily available to help outside of class (office/email)
Organic chemistry is a really hard course, and it's surprising how he can actually make the lectures interesting! Attendance is mandatory as he doesn't post notes and doesn't use the textbook, don't even bother buying one. Quizzes are hard, midterms reasonable. Gives a ton of practice tests - use them! Finals are brutal and will destroy your grade.
Neeland is an amazing prof! Every quiz/midterm he gives out will feel really hard but within a week of writing it you will feel silly for making mistakes on it. If you have any questions on test questions you got wrong he gives amazing feedback in his office hours. He shares great story's and I found his sense of humor to really add to his class.
He explains the main concepts in the lectures, but you have to read the textbook to actually understand it. His quizzes are very difficult, but the midterms aren't as bad. If you keep up with the readings and understand the concepts, then you will do good.
His lectures are fun. If you are looking for a course that is easy to pass, then this might be your choice. However science is not just about making jokes, it is about critical thinking. I would rather taking a course of a boring but rational professor than a course of who can only teach you how to pass the exams.
Very passionate about chemistry. Expects you to know everything. If you go to his office hours he will help you. EXTREMELY hard tests, recommend going to SL
He will have quizzes that are REALLY hard but his midterms aren't that bad. He will really help u when u go to his office and if u think your midterm is marked incorrectly make sure u take it to his office he will give u ur marks. Overall I found it really hard material and u need to read the textbook. He's very passionate about his lectures
The single most unsympathetic and rude prof I have ever encountered. Went to office hours to discuss an extension on midterm 2 due to a death in my immediate family and instead was given a 30 minute lecture on god and why death isn't an actual reason to be upset and grief is fake. Tests were extremely hard and his lectures were very fast pace.
In 203 I got a C and asked Neeland how I could get an A. He said to visit him every day, so I scrutinized my lecture notes every day to make sure I understood every single detail. It worked and I met my goal in 204. -Attend every SL session -Ask him how the markers want you to answer the question -Office hours -Do practice tests -Be organized
Neeland provided a challenging course that was very rewarding. Lectures are very important to attend, all material is covered during them. The key to doing well was to do as many of the previous quizzes and exams as possible. Tests tended to use all of the allotted time, make sure to write quickly.
If you can avoid him as a professor, please do. You will regret ever having him as a professor. He has very hard midterms and will test you on things that were barely covered. He is very rude though he will help you if you go to his office hours. WRITE DOWN EVERYTHING HE SAYS. Attend the SL and CCU sessions, they will help big time. Go to class.
Neeland is almost unavoidable if you're pursuing chem/biochem. His lectures make the material seem easy but he will give much harder questions on exams. He has quizzes but they aren't for marks. GO TO SL!! My SL leader was the best without her I would have done so poorly. Definitely study using his old midterms/finals. My fav class this semester.
Hey this is an amzing class. No marks for showing up but lol if you think you can get away with it. Pop quizes and lots of assinments makes this course hands on but super educational. Sometimes hard to wait for him with the line ups for extra help! He really is there for you if you need the help.
Ed Neeland is a great prof that gives notes during class so got to class. Not a lot to go back and review from for midterms. Do the practice he posts on canvas and go to SL!!! SL really helps.
Taking Organic Chem with Dr Neeland is probably the best thing I've done. He is a great teacher and gives very entertaining lectures. A lot of people find his classes very hard, but it's because he's going to teach you to know the concepts instead of remembering them. SL is strongly recommended
has amazing lectures, best prof ive ever had. makes the content interesting and easy to remember with his interesting and funny stories. Super helpful when you go to his office. wants to see his students succeed. midterms are difficult but not impossible if you put the work in to understand the material
Ed Neeland is by far the best prof I've had. His methodology in teaching organic chemistry ensures that you learn the concepts in a generalised fashion, which often makes retaining the concepts much easier. TAKE HIS CLASS. YOU WON'T REGRET IT. YOU WILL LEARN MORE IN HIS CLASS THAN YOU WOULD IN ANY OTHER CLASS YOU TAKE.
Organic chemistry is generally a hard course. Neeland makes the material super fun to learn and his lectures are really easy to engage in and they go by extremely fast. He has a good sense of humor and is easily approachable in his office hours!
Maybe it's just because of covid classes but I found this course to be the most difficult thing to manage out of all my other online classes. He chose to record all of his lectures in advance and release them for the class to take notes, it was very hard to engage without being able to talk in a chat at least. The midterms were fair though.
This class wasn't too bad but I didn't like that there wasn't much to engage with. It was almost an entire course where you were left to teach yourself through recorded videos and I lost all motivation to do well after the first midterm. He's a rational prof and even tells the class what EXACTLY is going to be on each test. Online chem, aint it.
I feel like this course would be fine if it wasnt online with covid. Honestly the midterms are really hard with the amount of time given. Ive gone from a 95 in my first year chem to a 55 in this class. Neeland doesnt care about your excuses
Lectures were asynchronous and not engaging. He does not post lecture notes or refer to the textbook. Has very high expectations on the exam, but does not communicate his expectations or TEACH THEM. Did not adapt or change his teaching methods after the first MT w/ a CLASS AVG of 49%. Was very discouraging with his comments ex) "horrible result" .
Once you get to know Neeland, you can predict what kinds of questions will be asked on his tests, and your grades will go way up. If you go visit him in person, he is incredibly helpful. Unfortunately, he is not very accommodating to online learning due to COVID. That being said, his lectures are incredibly entertaining. Favourite prof at UBCO!
Chem 203 is a difficult course overall but Neeland's lectures had lot's of humour in them. Wish I could take this class with him in person. Make sure to study!
Easily the worst prof I have ever had. Is incredibly rude, condescending and doesn't care about your success. While learning about chemistry he will also teach you all about his religious views. He has no problem making fun of students in front of the class and has no respect for anyone but himself.
Some of his lectures were like hour and a half movies, and these were supposed to be 50 min lectures lol. I recommend watching his lectures at 2x speed if they're pre-recorded. At least he's entertaining, and also very knowledgeable. Overall good prof, you'll do terribly if you don't practice a lot
Neeland is a great prof and pretty entertaining too. He explains concepts pretty well and expects you to be able to apply them, so avoid memorizing or reading last minute. He's also really good at showing the applications of what he's teaching making the course even more interesting. Do a lot of practise with the resources he gives and you're set!
amazing at giving lectures. often pushes his beliefs on you but never in an insulting way. tests are reasonable but graded very specifically.
Although Neelands ethics outside of the classroom (views on covid, evolution and religion) are questionable at best, he is one of the best lecturers ive had. He explains concepts very simply and then expands, and the text book question he assigns are very useful. Also SO helpful in office hours. He made me love organic chemistry, GREAT PROFESSOR!
Neeland's personality and teaching ethics are pretty questionable at times (often pushes his beliefs regarding COVID and vaccines on students, violating university policy). However, he is an AMAZING professor. He explains content very clearly, using lots of practice problems/examples. Exams are very doable and fair, and he is a fair grader.
Edward Neeland is an amazing self-confident professor. He is very interesting and his Beliefs are also super interesting to know. He explains the content in details and walk you through the lecture material. highly recommended as he truly helps you in and out of class.
Professor Neelands lectures are super enjoyable and he uses analogies to increase the understandability of the course material. He outlines each midterm and even the final exam the class before the test which helps tremendously. He made organic chemistry enjoyable for me, and certainly is the best professor I have encountered at UBCO so far.
He is a great professor, when you are listening to his lectures things just click and make sense. But to succeed in class, you don't just have to attend the lectures but go to his office hours anytime you need help. He gives great one-on-one feedback during office hours. To prepare for his midterms, do those practice midterms he uploads!!
Neeland is the best professor I have ever encountered in my university career. His lectures are always entertaining and very clear. If something is ever not clear he is always available in his office to provide help. He is eager to help students learn and cares so much about the success of students. Will always be grateful to have had this prof.
Neeland is one of the best profs at ubco, the way he teaches is really easily to understand, he often summarizes what was learnt class by repeating it briefly at the start of the class. He gives second chances,so if you do bad on the first midterm and do 10% better on the second MT he will make the second MT worth a lot more than 1st MT. ochem=easy
Awesome professor. Teaches in a way that makes things super easy to understanding. Begins with the basics and works up from there. Can be a bit intimidating but he always offers to help. Grade comes from two midterms and the final, but as long as you practice lots they aren't too bad.
Neeland is a good professor, but has very questionable ethics. He frequently shamed students for struggling in the course and getting poor grades. He also ranted about masks/COVID more than once. His teaching style was engaging and interesting. However, his pace was very slow, and we only covered about 60% of the course material.
Like the other ratings say, Neeland's ethics are questionable and he kind of shoves his opinions down your throat. That being said, I'm in CHEM 214 now and honestly I did not appreciate Neeland's teaching style enough. YOU HAVE TO ATTEND LECTURES, he doesn't post ANYTHING on canvas. But as long as you do it's smooth sailing.
Best professor I have ever had. He cares about his students learning, but the quality of the lectures never suffers. Provides great examples and even better personal stories pertaining to the topic. Based asf too.
final was brutal, didn't hold office hours before exam and the final was a terrible representation of what we learned in the course. gave an assignment every week but wanted very specific points labelled so be very specific, lectures were ok but if you miss one you're screwed. very content heavy
Neeland is an old school prof, but he made every class interesting to go to. Yah the tests were hard, but he gave so much extra work that you could use to solidify your knowledge. All in all one of the best profs I have ever had for some of the tougher courses I've had to take. His approach to teaching and style will be missed when he retires.
Professor Neeland's lectures are clear and engaging. He uses great analogies to explain concepts. While the class is challenging, utilizing resources like the textbook and unstuck study can really help. Overall, a rewarding experience.
