horrible teacher, don't learn a thing
best of the worst
No Comments
EASY teacher (probably not for lower chem classes though). You don't learn much but he had LOTS of extra credit on every test. I had to get a 30 on the final to get an A....
Automatic A
Parish is the easiest organic chem teacher at Auburn by far!! I'm a B student who sometimes makes an A, and I made an A in his 2070 course, and currently have an A in his 2080 course.
easiest of chem teachers but still have to work hard to get an A, not very hard to pass though
Extremely easy; it doesn't get any easier.
He is easy if you have an old test that's the same. But if you don't then he is very hard because he is a terrible teacher.
it's organic not communications 101. he's a good teacher considering that he could make it impossible. may be retiring soon though from health issues. :-(

Not as easy as everyone makes it out to be. You have to study hard and make sure if you are going to take 2, you have had a good teacher for 1. It makes a difference!
One of the worst teachers I have ever had could learn a few things from other teachers sometimes test mostly on things that he has not stressed as very important. Overall like I said a very bad teacher he needs to retire.
Good teacher. Teaches on the level of people NOT trying to get a PhD in organic chemistry. My 3 tests averaged to a 112. Average on 3rd test was a 96! He makes organic chemistry as easy as general chemistry.
Drastically oversimplifies the material. Lots of wrong information. Becomes belligerent when asked to clarify anything. Don't take if you need to know organic chemistry. If you're looking for the easy way out, he's your guy.
First three tests were easy enough, still had some Qs out of nowhere. But the final was completely out of left field. He said to study the old tests, but the final was nothing like the old tests. Be warned.
The people who have access to his old tests have a huge advantage (which is not very fair if you don't have an old test to study). Many questions on final completely unexpected based on what he said it would be like (had to know mechanisms)
The exams come straight from old ones. The final is very difficult and nothing like the first three exams. He often gives incorrect information in the notes, but still probably the proffesor to get if you want an easy A in organic chemistry.
If you have to know organic chemistry, DO NOT TAKE HIM. If you want to get by, TAKE HIM. If you have OLD TESTS, you will get an A. His tests are straight from old TESTS! FINAL is REALLY HARD! Do great on the 3 test[above 100]and final won't bring you down. I got an A b/c I had a 112 average b4 final
Awful teacher, often gave incorrect material in the notes. Be sure to get the old tests and you will ace the class.
Just as a class, it was easy. I really didn't learn anything that helped me in Organic 2. If your goal is to learn something do not take this guy's class.
if you get old test you are set, but the final is nothing like the old tests nobody knew where he got some of the questions. Great thing is most tests have extra credit. A is doable, and a B is easy, dont take if you have to take the MCAT you will not learn anything, you will just be really good at memorizing old tests!!
If you need to KNOW organic don't take him. He gives incorrect notes and his final is horrible. Study old tests and have a good grade going into the final and you can pull a b. Don't bother asking questions because he doesn't know the answers.
If you really need to know organic do not take him, however if you only need to know the basics go for him.He only touches on the reactions that he feels are important.Things that repeat on old test will likely show up on tests. The final is very difficult, most of the reactions contain 4 or 5 steps not the simple ones.
He sucks at teaching, so count on finding another way to learn the material. Get a few old tests for each of the tests and you'll be ok. It's helpful to actually know the material because he does change up the reactions a little on the tests. Still, much of the test comes directly from old ones. spend a little time on this class and you got an A.
i need them old tests
he is the worst teacher. some of the material he covers is not even in the damn book. I read the book and understood it. some of the material on the test is not even in the book. please get this man fired and dont take him even if he is the only teacher left.
take him to get an A in this class. get the old tests they help a ton. i studied a lot but thought the tests were very easy. no chemistry teacher is perfect... i suggest taking him.
this is by far the worst teacher ive had in auburn. he cares not for your opinion. he cares not if you have a question. in fact, dont ask question in that class, he will try to piss you off as much as possible without answering. someone get this man fired.
dont ask questions, he'll ridicule you. he is the incarnation of the devil, and he is the worst teacher ive ever had. he sweet talks you before the finals when we have to evaluate him, but then blows everyone away with an impossible finals.
He is the worst teacher EVER. Do not listen to everyone else, he is not EASY!!! My final grade was not was it was supposed to be and neither was someone else I know. He also said he would scale some of our tests, however, he did not do that like he said. I beg of you DO NOT TAKE HIM IT WILL NOT BE A GOOD EXPERIENCE!!! Take ANYONE else!!
This guy is a horrible teacher. The test are hard and if you dont have the old test you are Fu@#ed. Never under any circumstances take his class you do not want to find out how bad this guy is. Some of the material on the test are not in the book. And dont ask any questions in class he will try to make you look stupid.
This guy is a horrible teacher. If you do not make good on the first test, DROP THE CLASS!! He makes these promises like scaling the class grade on a test and replacing your lowest test grade with the final if higher, well it is a bunch of BS!!! Just drop the class or be wise and dont take him to begin with!!!
Terrible teacher. Avoid him if you can. Does not explain material at all, just draws on the board and expects you to understand everything he says. Mumbles almost the entire time, and if you ask him to repeat himself, he souunds like he was personally assaulted. DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!
run away as fast as you can...
Dr. Parrish is a great teacher. I agree with the comment before mine. Organic Chemistry is a hard concept to grasp and he makes it a lot easier. I can't believe the people who said he was bad. I had him last summer and he was a great instructor. The people who said he was bad just want to blame someone. Take responsibility for your grades!
I love dr. parish! i had him this summer and he was so nice and helped me learn the information. im not gonna lie i was scared to death of organic and then i had him! he rocks!
I came out with a decent grade, but he is just not a good teacher. Everybody who had him in the summer liked him, but in the spring and fall, I thought he was terrible. If you simply want to memorize the reactions then take him. I tried to learn O Chem and it was impossible. Doesn't explain well, but I think he is not teaching anymore.
VERY VERY VERY bad...... only thing good is his tests are the exact same as the old ones, so its an easy a if you know how to study.... but if you go to class and try to learn it wont help you at all. After a whole class i always wonderd why i went, because he cannot teach at all
He teaches so-so (He mumbles, writes horribly on the board, and messes up a lot.). He gives you almost all you need to know for the test, which are not too easy, but they aren't horrible. He does scale at the end of the class usually though, which helps. I hear he's the best OC teacher though, showing how horrible AU's Chemistry Dept. is.
WORST PROFESSOR EVER!!!! He doesn't teach and the only way to pass tests is to MEMORIZE old tests. I even went to him about my probelms in class and he just told me to go to the resource room. The resource room is a joke because there is never a GTA in there who can speak/understand english.
Had Doc Parish for both Org 1 & 2. Made an A in both. I don't know why he has a "sad face" on here... All you need to do is memorize EVERYTHING he writes on the board... you don't need to understand it, just know it backwards & forwards.. Exams will be 75% reactions (from those that he puts on the board.) Make an A with reasonable study time.
This class was painfully easy. I think its his first semester teaching gen. chemistry and you can tell. If you had ANY chemistry in high school, this class is borderline a waste of time. I made a 108 on the first test without opening the book. He lets you take a notecard into the test and you can write whatever you want on it. Boring, but easy.
Dr. Parish is not a good teacher. He does not go over math at all, doesn't give relavent examples to test questions, and doesn't help when you have a question. He gives a lot of definitions but then when the test comes you have to apply some definitions in ways that he never touched on or explained. He is also REALLY boring to listen to.
DO NOT TAKE HIM. everyone told me to take him and i did because he's supposed to be "easy". i memorized the first and second test like everyone said to do and made high As. then he changed the third test and the final and i ended up with a C in the class. my own fault, but he does it every semester. just writes stuff on the board and doesn't explai
He plays down the test too much, they're actually really difficult, ESPECIALLY if you don't study. He doesn't explain it at all so you need to be able to teach yourself. And his voice gets annoying really fast and he's really full of himself. Don't take him, or even better: don't take Chemistry.
Horrible teacher! He tells you not to come to his office during his office hours, just to go to the tutoring sessions which are also horrible. He doesn't scale the tests as promised, even when the majority of the class fails. DO NOT TAKE, DO NOT TAKE, DO NOT TAKE!!!
This class is easy as long as you memorize the notes. However, if you have him for 2070, you MUST take him for 2080. I tried to take another professor and was totally lost.
Dr. Parish is a TERRIBLE teacher. He also make promises he doesn't keep. After one test he told our class not to worry if you failed it b/c he was going to scale it by 5 points and you would do better on the next one. YEAH RIGHT, and the final is a nightmare. I know people who went in to the final with a B and got a D. STAY AWAY FROM PARISH!!
Worst ever, laziest man in the world. Makes promises he doesn't keep. Learn more from reading the book. I never missed a single class and made a B, but not because he taught well. there is NO reason to go to class EVER.
This is the easiest class in the world. Everything you need to know is in the book. I didn't even go to class, and made a 100+ on every test. You get 16 bonus pts per test, and you get to use a 4X6 notecard, which can hold alot of stuff with an 8 pt font. Really easy GPA booster. Just read chapters the night b4 test.
Unless you prefer self-teaching, AVIOD. The lectures are a waste of time. All he does is read off notes, which are just a bunch of definitions and formulas that he doesn't explain and most of which never show up on the exams. Very monotone and boring. The only way to survive this class is to read the ENTIRE chapter from the text and teach yourself
Not an easy class and doesn't extend any help, but will help if asked. Just bear with him, he's a chem teacher...how many college chem teachers aren't weird? Get the old tests and know all the rxns...Oh, and put the opposite answer you think it is on the exam and you'll be surprised! He likes to put the trick/but in this case you do this...on exams
not clear. i taught myself. i asked for help and he got frustrated like i should already know this stuff. he tried to help us out at the end of the semester by dropping our lowest test grade but for most it was already too late. test mult. choice. if he says you dont have to read something read it anyway, it WILL be on the test.
He was not a bad teacher. He explained everything you need to know for the tests. You get to use a notecard on EVERY test and theres always bonus problems on the tests. I was 2 questions on my exam from having an A. He teaches you what you need to know and what he says in class is what is on the test. He wont try to trick you. TAKE HIM
If you take him, memorize his notes backwards and forwards!! He usually takes reactions straight from his notes and puts them on the test. His class is boring and he doesn't explain things well. But he is the easiest organic teacher in Auburn.
BAHAHA...he's TERRIBLE. You grade is a gamble. You can't understand him and he doesn't explain ANYTHING. Just writes it on the board and is done with it. At all costs, AVOID HIM!
His Org. I class is a joke, as long as you study the notes, do problems in the book and study old test. You can put in a minimum amount of effort and get an A. But when you take Org. II it is best to take him again because you will be lost if you take a harder teacher.
Notecard thing must be for general chem because he didn't do that for our organic class. He is horrible at explaining things and only "teaches" the basics. I feel like I am not prepared for organic 2 like I should be. His tests stuck mainly to the fundamentals, except the final, and he dropped the lowest exam, allowing me to pull an A.
OK..He is not an easy teacher, but there is a lot worse at Auburn. If you study the notes and read the book you will do fine...but you really have to know your stuff!!
Had him for Organic Chemistry I. Finished with above a 100%. Kinda mean to people who ask questions during lecture. Tests are based on what he goes over in class and material in the book. Just study.
He's terrible. I had to take him for Organic II because I had him for Organic I. First day of class, he came in thinking he was teaching 2070. Goes to show how bad of a teacher he is. Tests seemed easier in this class, however. I still don't know anything about Organic Chemistry. Oh well.
Well organic is pretty tough anyway, but he's probably as good a teacher as anyone else. Test questions are almost entirely reactions or synthesis problems, taken directly from the notes. Just know your notes cold and you'll do fine. Plus he drops the lowest test grade (and doubles your final, which is way better than it sounds) if it will help you
Was the worst professor I have had EVER! I tried to ask questions and he treated me as if I were inferior and incompetant. Stay away from his class AT ALL COSTS!
Organic Chemistry is not much fun to begin with, but with this professor you're entire test (including the final) is based solely on memorization. Simply memorize whatever he puts on the board and you'll be fine.
Let the word be out that his new tests are harder than the old tests. I was told going into this class to study old tests and you would be fine. Wrong! He is a terrible teacher and doesn't explain anything at all. You better have plenty of time to learn this stuff on your own or get a good tutor!
He is so BORING!!!! I couldn't stand going to class...and even when I did, he just read from powerpoints and added ok, ok! He never explained how to do any of the problems; I had to teach myself from the book.
run for ur lives... OK? if you dont know this since kindergarden.... your dead...OK? you need to have experience,...if you dont your dead... OK??
Take someone else. You have to teach everything to yourself!!
The general consensus is, if you've had chem before and still know your stuff, you're fine bc his tests are "basic". But if you're like me and haven't had chem before then you might struggle bc he is beyond awful at teaching. Grades were polarized, those who had chem before made high 90s. Those who didn't mostly failed
Experience counts ok! (Anyone who has had his class will understand). Class is way easy! We covered more material in high school! Tests have tons of bonus. Only problem: Class sucks! The only thing you will get out of this class is an easy "A" and some extra sleeping time!
Its an easy "A" alright, but its almost not worth it, I used the same book in high school, his tests are pretty easy, just read over some stuff the night before and your fine.
Tests are really easy for those who have taken an advanced chemistry in high school, but otherwise would be difficult. His lectures are on the history and theory aspects of chemistry, but the tests are 90% math based. I would only recommend his class if you have a strong background in chemistry or have a great tutor.
Got and A and never studied but that's because i had a good chem teacher in high school. Class lectures are useless except to copy his notes from the screen. If you dont have a strong chemistry background i would advise you not to take him.
If you don't want to go to class and still do good then take this class. His notes come word for word out of the book. So your fine if you just read the chapter and make your own notes. However if you didn't take chemistry in high school I would suggest you take someone else. He didn't teach me anything new.
well, you can forget hearing him. I sat in the 4th row last class and struggled to understand his mumbling. someone complained that they couldn't hear him and he did nothing to speak louder or more clearly
He's not very approachable, but realistically other than a regrade on a test you have no reason to talk to him. You can use a notecard on his tests filled with anything you want, and he drops your lowest grade and doubles your final. He isn't going to make you think or learn, but it's an easy A
Dr. Parish is really not that bad. As long as you study your notes(which are the same from one semester to the next) you will be fine. Also, use your notecard wisely and only fill it with the important stuff. Use the S.I. if you have one, they help a ton!
He seems to be a jerk. makes people look stupid if they ask questions. you cant hear him anyway... I think he makes jokes sometimes because he'll laugh every now and then. The only reason to take him is so you can use a notecard on the test.
He is a jerk sometimes. If you ask questions instead of answering them h tells you its high school material that we should already know. If you didn't take or do good in chemistry in high school then DON'T take this class.
I didnt have chem in HS so the 1st 1/2 of the semester was hard for me. Finally i realized dont look over his notes at all! just read the chapter and do the example problems at the end of each section. This is the key to doing well, i got a 96. DON'TGOTOCLASS! ITS WASTEOFTIME! don't do the end of chapter problems but the problems within the chapter
This class is useless! All he does is read off of a projector, and you are expected to learn everything else by yourself! The notes don't really help,so just read the book, and you should be ok.
Let's just say...he really doesn't care about you. He's hard to hear, so sit closer to the front. Most of the stuff on the test comes from the notes, but reading the book helps too. He lectures more on theory than problem solving. I would take him again because his tests were pretty easy. Oh, and he also adds 'OK?' onto the end of every sentence.
I made an A, but I had a good background in chem and taught myself most of the material. I suggest going to class and write down his "notes" b/c his tests are more concepts than math. You can use a notecard on tests- type it and you can fit all of your notes in an 8 size font. The final was easy- hardly any math. Mkay?
I didn't make below a 100 on any of his tests but that's only because I had chemistry in high school. I couldn't imagine otherwise. Terrible, terrible teacher. Very annoying and looks like Borat's sidekick. Read the book and if you decide to go to class, sit up front.
Easy A, dont waste your time going to class. Read the book and you will be fine. He uses notes and never explains anything. So just spend the time you would normally spend in class reading your book you will be fine. Although he wont help you if you need to take chem II
Only take Parish if you have a good background in chemistry. Hard to hear unless you sit in the very front. He only lectures on concepts, not math. If you can teach yourself, no need to go to class. Tests are fairly easy if you study and he lets you use a notecard. I think he helps people's grades b/c I got an A and should have had a B.
great teacher
Parish is not a great chemistry teacher but his class is great compared to other chemistry classes. He has a good idea of how difficult to make a test and what a class average should be. If you are decent at chemistry than you should make a good grade in this class. Teaching yourself is required though
First, he really needs to improve his teaching methods. It's really difficult to pay attention to what he is saying because it is really difficult to hear him. Make sure to sit in the front if at all possible. Get ready to teach yourself or get a tutor. If you have the old tests, that's a plus. He is a decent guy but the tests are terrible!!!
So hard to understand. GET OLD TESTS. He reuses some questions but not all. It'll give you a general clue as to what's to come. Textbook is a must. take advantage of the cheat sheet! you can fit a LOT on those cards. He just reads from the textbook every class. I slept most classes and came out with a high B. and i hate chemistry.

Going to class helps - if he spends a while lecturing on something it's a sure bet it will be on the test even when the book doesn't make a big deal about it. However he uses the text book's slides and he is extremely boring. He says "ok" once in every sentence just about. But if you read the chapters and study the old tests you'll get an A. Easy A
If you don't have a good chemistry background then don't take him. You must also be able to teach yourself the material
He is a pretty good tacher he just jumps around alot. All test questions come pretty much directly from the notes.
Ok, compared to every other chem teacher at auburn, he is by far the easiest. go to class, the test questions come straight from the notes. and buy the book, if you read hte chapters you will do awesome on his tests. he's really the best chem teacher there is here.
I had him for survey 1010 and 1020 and he is so much harder for 1020. going to class is pointless...he reads straight from the book. made an A in 1010 and the first two class averages in 1020 have been 51 and 69. he's been giving us organic chem tests..easy if you are able to teach yourself but his 1020 tests are ridiculous.
Basically he pulls all his test questions straight from what he puts on the board. Getting a book is pretty much pointless because as long as you go to class and take the notes you will be perfect. His first test are really easy so do good on those. His final can suprisingly be difficult. So go ahead and do good all semester.
Don't expect to learn much. His tests are pretty easy. The second test has a ton of information on it. Don't procrastinate studying the reactions and you will do fine on it. Gave insane amounts of bonus points. There were people who only had to make 20s and 30s on the final to keep A's. Take Livant or Striegler if possible.
His tests come directly from his notes, but you need to read the chapters in the book in order to understand the reactions. The reactions on the test differ from his notes. I would suggest studying a little every night to not fall behind. Try for another professor if you have to take Organic 2.
He just reads straight from the text and you have to learn the material on your own
Take the notes. They are all on the tests. Pretty much have to teach yourself.
Not a good teacher, period. Material isn't impossible, but don't expect to actually learn it from him. Expect to teach yourself.
This guy has a horrible teaching method. He basically draws on the board and just rambles on.. needs to use a microphone desperately.. I haven't learned anything about Organic Chemistry but I've gotten A's on all of the tests because I just memorize his notes [which make no sense], but it's an easy A if you know how to read.
Ok, this class is definitely not the hardest class in the world. Get an old test and memorize your notes and you're golden.. but jeez. He's a total creeper.. he just rambles incoherently at the board and says "okaayyy" every 2 seconds. Dont expect to learn anything either. Do expect to get an A.
okay, I have never hated a class more in my life. The man is literally the worst teacher I've ever had in my life, but I got all old tests and memorized them, and made A's on all of them. I read on this website that his final came out of no where [which is true], so I hired a tutor. Best 30$ I've ever spent.. Definitely getting an A in the class.
Take him for organic. Do not get screwed by Squillacote. Dr. Parish is easy if you memorize reactions and naming. Thats your whole test. Stay on top of it and get old tests so you wont be overwhelmed when test time rolls around. MAKE REACTION SHEETS. get a whiteboard. Do what you have to do to learn it. May not be fun but its neccesary.
People say he's an easy A but you still have to study pretty hard for his tests. His final isn't too bad. He lets you have a 3x5 note card for every test which helps your grade a lot. All notes are on the mastering chem website and all he does is make you copy them during class so there really is no point, just print them off and you'll be good.
Great professor. He is helpful at office hours too. He even gives extra credit questions too!
Dr. Parish is the worst possible teacher you could have for organic 1. I had only had make a 3 on the final because of all the extra credit he gives, but you must teach everything to yourself. He very unhelpful and impolite. I am very scared on how prepared I am for OCHEM2 and the MCAT. DO NOT TAKE!
Does not prepare you for a professional school entrance exam such as the PCAT or MCAT. If you only need the grade, take him. If you are trying to further your career, do not.
Exams aren't that difficult. He will give bonus questions which really helps. He doesn't teach rxns very well - look them up! & don't just memorize them, know them. But the final was by far the hardest exam i've ever taken in my life. Be prepared for lots of rxns- know them all even if he doesn't mention them!(he kinda follows the book so read it)
Ok for organic 1, but I would highly recommend taking someone else for organic 2...yes, he isn't too hard, but if you're getting ready to take the MCAT (like I was), you'll be in a world of hurt and will be poorly prepared...
I literally never went to class except on test days and got an A. Just know what chapters the test is on an read em in the book and you're golden. Awesome. I hate chem and Parish makes it painless to just go ahead and blow thru your chem requirements and get on with your college career. Just get the textbook and stay home! :D
Tests are not that hard...all comes straight from the notes and the final is not as hard as everybody says but it is little more trickier than the regular tests because most of the reactions are 4 or 5 steps. He also drops your lowest test score and replace it with your final grade (which allowed me to get an A in the class)
Organic chemistry IS hard, don't BS your way through this, in the end if your taking the MCAT or anything you WILL be screwed. Don't just memorize his old tests, it gets tricky cause he changes things up slightly. He is not very friendly, up to you to figure things out. His notes can be very unclear. READ THE TEXTBOOK!!!
Use the textbook for understanding, and make sure you know the reactions and mechanisms he always throw questions in test that aren't expected
Very hard to understand. The notes are not clear. The only thing keeping me alive is SI sessions and the book. The tests are relatively easy if you understand the material. He does drop your lowest test grade and replaces it with your final. that helps a lot.
Pros: no need to take notes, his slides are strictly from the textbook. I just highlighted and made notes from that. He lets you bring an index card front and back full of notes to every exam! Cons: VERY boring and easy to skip. Exams are quite difficult. Not approachable. Takes a long time to grade exams.
You can read the book and memorize old tests and pass Chem 1...not so with Chem 2. Tests and material is much harder and he doesn't explain any of it. The final for 1020 was extremely hard and seemed to come from nowhere. And on top of that he took away the bonus points and didn't tell anybody until test day. Miserable semester.
This class wasn't too difficult, but I did not learn very much at all. If you have to take more advanced chem classes after Chem 1, I would not take him. He does not explain things clearly and is not good at teaching the material at all. I studied the book for tests and did pretty well, but hardly ever went to class because it was pointless.
Awful. In previous years, his class wasn't required to take the standardized final, but this year we all had to take it. We were not prepared at all. He doesn't work a single problem all year. Don't bother going to class, just read straight from the book. Plus, if you have to take chem 2 or other types of chem, save yourself and don't take him.
I would never recommend Parish for ochem 1 because you won't learn anything but for 2 its not as bad. go to class just to get his notes because he cuts so much out of the book to where you almost have to. if you can't get an A in this class you should not be a science major. tests are out of 120 and just like old ones
Get the old test and you will do fine I never went to class much and when I did I never paid any attention
Parish is a classic. His lectures are straight forward. just take notes, study those notes, and you'll be fine. you really don't even need your book. he lets you use a notecard for each test. his tests aren't too tough, but you need to study for them. he cancels class all the time and always lets class out early!
Lectures are very boring, you dont have to pay attention. Powerpoints come right from the book. Study the book and old tests and you'll make an A.
Whoever says he's hard is lying, he's actually easy. You just wont be as prepared if you're going to a professional school. First test was super easy, i made a 105. 2nd test? I failed it,would have done better if I studied the reactions more. I made an A because he drops lowest test and he re-uses his test and final. Didn't buy book, but should hav
Took him for Organic 2, was very easy, he gives you 20 bonus points on every test. Make sure you know all the reactions. He also lets you drop your lowest test grade. If you study you will get an A.
Parish is a pretty good guy. His tests are straight from the notes and if you spend the time you can do well!
Dr. Parish is just as easy as every one says he is. Probably one of the easiest classes I've taken at Auburn. If you study the notes the night before, you can easily get over a 100 (since every test is out of 120). If you are studying for the MCAT, though, I highly suggest you study the book intensely as the class moves along.
His notes are very straight foward but due to "problems in the past" he has made tests very difficult. He does however give bonus on tests. He does not elaborate or explain concepts well and expects you to learn on your own time.
DO NOT TAKE IF YOU HAVE THE OPTION. The class seems easy at first but he is very but he is very unclean about what will actually need to be known on the tests, he is hard of hearing so dont expect to be able to ask questions, and a good grade is harder to come by than it seems.
If you go to class, take the notes, and do the Aleks you can get an A on every test. He isn't trying to trick you with questions or anything, most are pretty simple. His lectures are boring but just write down what he says and you're fine.
He wasn't terrible. He definitely wants you to succeed, but doesn't really care at the same time. He curves all his tests to make sure its a 75% average or higher. If you learn best by reading the textbook, you'll be fine. ALEKS is extra credit, do it. Sit in the front, he's very quiet and doesn't always reach the back.
I quit going after midterms because I could read a chapter a week from the book and do the Aleks sections for better performance than the 3 hours a week I was sinking going through the torture of listening to him say "okay" twice a minute and mumbling through important content. Still, he didn't even begin to prepare anyone for the final.
Dr. Parish is a nice guy but not the best teacher. His class is extremely easy though. All tests are multiple choice and you can make over a 100 without ever opening your textbook. He doesn't prepare you for the final though. I did fine because I studied and did my Aleks, which counts as bonus. If you don't need Chem 2, take him for an easy A!
His lectures are so long and boring, but his tests are extremely easy. You don't really learn any of the math stuff from him, so make sure you do your ALEKS, that's what helped me on his tests. I didn't really use the book that much but I would suggest getting it because it helped me cram for tests.
He changed his grading policy this year so the only thing that you were graded off of was your test grade. He lectures are off a projector, his notes are only definitions- I wouldn't even bother going to class. Just take your own notes out of the text book and study his old exams. He's not helpful and actually quite rude. I would not recommend
Parish is so easy. I study his old exams the night before the test and make a 98. Tests are 120 points, but only out of 100, so you automatically have 20 bonus points. He changed up the third exam and no one knew anything on it. He scales because he likes his avg above a 75. Definitely take for ochem if you're not taking the MCAT.
Attended SI instead of lecture. Made over 100 on every test. Dr. Parish is not clear on what will be on exams, but they're easy enough you shouldn't complain. Take him for organic if you can!!
Meh. Couldn't understand his lectures, and had to teach myself the material. Tests were easy, exactly like his old exams. Read the book to teach yourself and make friends with people who have old exams, this is critical. The SI leader taught me more the night before the final than Parish taught me the entire semester. Take him if you need an easy A
I didn't even buy the textbook for this class. Even though his lectures are boring and you can't understand him, just take pictures of his PowerPoint slides. Then go home and write those notes down later. He only makes his tests based on what he shows us in class. Tests are easy, and I've never made below a 96.
I don't understand how you can't get an A in this class. Tests have so much bonus added in that I made over a 100 on two of the three exams. That being said, I feel like I've learned little to nothing because we skipped half of the material in the book.
Dr. Parish is very easy; however, you must go to class, as he does not know how to use a computer--gives all information by word of mouth. He gives 20 extra credit points on each exam to raise the class average to a 75%. He is funny, go meet him. Take him if you are not trying to go to graduate or professional school.
His tests are easy and straight out of the textbook but he doesn't prepare you at all for the common final. I read the text before the lectures and went to SI regularly and i made A's on every test and he gave so much extra credit I could fail the final and get a B. If you only have to take chem 1 then take him but be prepared to learn nothing.
Dr. Parish is a terrible lecturer and coming to class is pretty much useless. I only did well because I went to all of the SI sessions and read the textbook. The tests are pretty simple for what they are, but that means you're screwed for the common final. The good news is, Dr. Parish is retiring after next semester.
Dr. Parish's class very easy for students who just learn the reactions from the chapters that the tests are on. Personally, I went to most SI session's and learned most of the underlying concepts that he skips during lecture. Parish gives you the opportunity to perform well on every exam by giving plenty of bonus. Would suggest taking his class.
