Good teacher jsut sucks at writing tests
I have the uncontrolable urge to throw large, heavy, pointy objects at him! Make the Bad Man go Away!

If you take a class from him, prepare to fail it. You will have a VERY hard time, because he can't complete a thought in class!
Seriously bad! He must think everyone knows as much (or as little) math as he does b/c he doesn't try to help or make things easier. Have fun trying to get him to help you out in the class.

He makes Stupid-Kid Math Class (a.k.a. math 101) evil! Thanks to my H.S. calculus teacher for helping me pass! Yeah, if you are gonna take a class from him be sure to have a tutor back-up. Even if you know the stuff he will confuse and fail you.
If you take this class from him, he already hates you. Can't explain things clear to himself let alone anyone else. Ten times more boring than the textbook!! The final will hurt you bad! Just say no to Tymchatyn!
Gets through a problem part way and then can't figure of the rest!!! I advise you to stay away. Marks very hard and doesn't remember how or why he corrected your midterm and yet will not change the mark to what it should be!!!!
Marks assignments but will not explain what the mark breakdown is. Does not like to answer questions either in class or office. Can't think of one possitive to his teaching.
Well, one positive thing is that his midterms are quite easy, and usually consist of the basic questions, nothing too advanced. He isn't very helpful, but he has a good sense of humour. I believe that he is sincerely trying to be helpful.
NOT RECOMMENDED! His final was sooo hard, and I don't know where he got the questions from.He makes the course extremely hard, and won't help anyone. His fail rate is definately at least 90%. This prof should really lose his job....
In contrary to other ratings, found Dr. T to be a hard marker but was approachable during office hours. He prefers questions during the beginning of class in order to maintain a flow in his lectures and prefers appointments for consultation.
Teaches directly out of textbook but needs to get a better one to make things clearer. Has definite ideas on how things should be done but if you can figure them out (have fun) you can do okay.

Was absolutely terrible, stuff I learned in highschool helped me get through this, but he still confused me from what I already knew. His midterms were fairly simple, but final was a ****. Overall, he should not be teaching any level of human beings.
Having taken this course twice from this demoralizing cat, I can simply say...Get Out! He can't teach and he marks like the devil. The material of the course is not that bad but he is and he will also definately confuse you. Its nice to know he's brilliant but he cant teach and he's an ****.

Terrible prof. I love math, but he made me dislike it. I don't skip classes, but I skipped his for two months straight and learned more effectively from the textbook. Made errors in all his examples, even though they were straight from the text. Doesn't seem to care.
He made this class way more difficult than it needed to be and seemed proud to boast about how many people failed any given test. I dropped his class, took it from someone else and did fine. He just isn't a very good teacher.
He is kind of confused. He is not too sure what or how to teach. However; he marks your papers easy.
He was the absolute worst prof ever! There was one test where he failed the entire class (and did not curve the marks). He stood at the front and did the examples from the textbook, except he did them wrong. I was so bored I left every class just to be rude. He sucks!

Doesn't know the content and is easily stumped. Doesn't have any respect for students or problems they encounter. Very few partial marks; "its all right or all wrong". Very unfair, avoid at all costs. There are good math professors around, but he is Not one of them.
I don't know what everyone else is talking about but I found prof. Tymchatyn to be very good. At least he speaks english properly and clearly. I say he definetly knows what he is talking about and if you're paying attention, you will be able to follow what he says. There is nothing wrong with this professor.
Long after I took this class from Dr. T I still know the material like the back of my hand. So...he's got to be doing something right! A very challenging, but fair class.
first day of lectures he told the class "of the two people next to you, one is going to drop out, the other is going to fail. if you're lucky, you'll pass". teaching method was transferring examples from the text to the board, but skipped steps and made mistakes. definitely avoid this prof.
I think that Tymchatyn knows his stuff, he just has trouble teaching it especially since he makes so many mistakes himself. I quit going to class and hired a tutor who taught me everything in about 6 hours. I dont recommend him...but i guess there are worse out there.
He knows what he's teaching but doesn't seem to know how to explain it. He jumps from place to place and confused me, as well as I'm a perfectionist, so the way he gives notes(random things here and there) annoyed me a bit, but as I said, does know his stuff.
I had missed some school for knee surgery and I gave him a doctor's note and he still deducted me for lateness on assignments. This man is evil. Avoid.
when you are teaching a class please put something on the exam that we actually did in our HOMEWORK. You can't put some random qeustions on the test and expect us to do good. Are you seriously trying to fail everyone because that is what is seems like!! You must like to see everyone suffer. I recommend that you either help people or just retire
i love math and this prof is making me hate it, all he does is write the examples from the text onto the board. Also, he makes his tests extremely unfair because they dont test your knowledge on what you've generally learned, they are like the hardest examples of like one or two concepts we barely touched upon in class, or didnt at all, Avoid.

Seems like a really smart guy but can't get his point across well and is hard to follow. Basically have to teach yourself if you want to pass this hard class. The questions on the quizes are nothing you see in the assignments. Try another prof if at all possible.
I recommend to stay as far away as possible. THE DEVIL!!

Worst prof. ever. I did great in calculus in highschool but bad in this class. The tests were out a low amount of marks so if you screwed up one question you were down to a 75. All he does is do examples from the text in class. He often manages to confuse himself and other students tell him what he did wrong. Avoid at all costs.
Very intelligent, but doesn't know how to communicate with his students. Answers the wrong question when you ask, and chooses random questions that weren't covered in the assignment for his quizzes and exams. I would recommend doing basically every question (odd and even) from every section, and reading ALL examples.
A guy with great knowledge I'd say, and he helps you to think deep into questions and problems araised in the course...but sometimes that's too much! Recommended for people with high IQ and EQ.

By far the worst prof ever. This guy is all over the place. I don't understand how this guy kept his job. Avoid his class like the plague.
I took a class from Dr. T in the 1980's apparently he is still tough BUT it is very important to note that he is a brillant mathematican. What I did not appreciate then which I completely appreciate today is that he was teaching his students to think mathematically not regurgiate memorized technique. This emphasis served me well since graduation.
He was really nice and kinda funny, but not a great teacher. Look elsewhere if at all possible.
Completely and utterly incomprehensible. He didn't have notes, so he was doing problems for the first time during class and couldn't even finish half of them. His answer - "well now you'd use some kind of machine to figure this out". Therefore any notes were positively useless. No one should be subjected to four months of listening to this old man!
I found that he was very flustered all of the time. He did questions from the textbook that were examples and already had answers and an explanation so he was no help at all. And his ways of explaining were so all over the map in the end you didn't know what you had accomplished or if you had even finished the question. Overall a terrible prof!

Quite possibly the worst prof in the history of profs. I've stopped going to his class and found myself understanding a lot more just going through my textbook. Definitely try to avoid his classes.
There is a reason for the rating. How are you suppose to learn if Ed writes all the formulas on the board, you write it all down, then he erases it all and tells you it's wrong. Absolute nightmare.
He tends to confuse himself from time to time. Very entertaining and has a good sense of humour, although somewhat quirky. If you are a math person, you will really appreciate his intelligence; if not, you may want someone who is better at dumbing things down. While his teaching is up for debate, the fact that he's a brilliant mathematician is not.
The only reason why I made it through the class was because of my high school knowledge and the textbook. He knows the math himself but is terrible at teaching. The notes are everywhere and he gets confused. The midterms are fairly easy but the final's a b****.

I thought he was actually really good. Yes, this class requires you study A LOT, but he went through everything in class with enough examples, and he seems like a very nice guy. As for the confusing comments, yes, he may forget a negative or add something wrong, but get over it. PS: go to the labs, even if not mandatory.
Lectures aren't very interesting but the class is pretty easy, and everything he goes through is in the textbook so it's really easy to study if you miss lectures.

Worst prof ever!!!!! He teaches everything by writing out the whole chaperter of the text book..confuses himself all the time..He cannot explain the materials very well...not organized..Overall, AVOID, AVOID and AVOID!!
