His overall class is ok, but to much emphasis is put on the final project, if you turn anything in late or mess up, its an automatic failure. Also very unhelpful to individual students and expresses a condiscending attitude. 1/2 of the class failed.
easy class if you just do the work, easy grader, however he does put a lot of importance on one big assignment
His class dddrrraaaagggggsss on. He is confusing to listen to. He also puts lecture emphasis on things not emphasized in tests.
NIGHTMARE! He failed me in the fall and passed 20 students who did the same thing I did in the Spring. He is inconsistent and rude. Avoid at all costs. He has no good side. Take someone else
He was a nice guy. He drops one test. I had to miss a test because of a vacation. I figured he would let me take it early but no it had to be counted as the drop which I found to be unfair.
Condescending and seemingly introverted to a fault. Doesn't seem to have an understanding of today's generation. But he's a fair grader and presents material adequately.
Class is boring! Show up and do the work and you will do fine. Test questions are little wierd sometimes.
worst teacher ever if you have to take him as I did. do the project the first week. I had an A in the class and turned in my project a day late and he failed me. had to retake luckily he went on sabbatical and i got an A from a decent teacher.
In a nut shell he SUCKS!!!!! This guy is a bore. Anyone who takes him good luck. (COFFEE)
Really big jerk. Not helpful at all and he barely ever makes sense. He has no sympathy for anyone and he makes his class way more difficult than it needs to be. I would never take him ever again
make flash cards
He is so willing to help out students if they are willing to seek him out. He WILL take the time to explain things in different ways until you understand if you are willing to ask him to do it!
a lot of people don't like him, but his was one of my favorites classes ever. If u dedicate yourself to the work + understanding the topics, you will do well. You can't neglect it or you will fall behind. The material in the class is hard but well worth it if you can understand it. I can't stress that enough! He'll help u if u ask!
People keep saying he's a horrific professor because it's a difficult course! People need to realize that they're in college now and stuff isn't handed to them. I really like him as a professor. He explains stuff until people understand it. All you have to do is understand the material and you'll do fine!
Teaches to the best of his ability but is so smart that he misses explaining things at crucial moments during lecture. Talks above you and forgets that he isn't teaching at Harvard.
His class is hard, but if you seek him out, he is very willing to explain the material to you.
Knows his stuff...very smart guy, and SUPER nice...but Words Tests Questions weird and makes the course pretty difficult
terrible teacher. i was interested in meterology until i took his class...
Terrible teacher! He makes into such complicated project that is so hard to grasp. Poor delivery, no teaching skills. I regret taking his class, waste of moeny and could ruin your GPA.
He is a very smart guy but does not have very good people skills. He makes you feel stupid when you ask him questions to the point where you dont wanna ask again. Class is pretty boring but you gotta go to get the notes. and his notes are very unorganized.
do not take him
It's hard to get used to his style of teaching and grading if it's new to you. He's a nice guy, and is very helpful if you're respectful and take interest in his class. A piece of advice on tests: Describe everything as though you're explaining it to someone who's never heard of it before. If you're very detailed, you'll get good grades on tests.
His notes are very unorganized, his tests are really hard, and although the book isnt required- buy it- because his lectures are insufficient. He makes you feel dumb for asking questions. Fair grader but hard tests- and labs and tests are your whole grade.
He can be hard to relate to - not very much warmth there; often times highly intelligent people have a harder time relating to others. However, his notes are VERY organized: print out the study guides, bring them to lecture, then when you take notes number them according to the study guide. It's a guaranteed way to make sure you've got everything.
Worst teacher I’ve ever had. He has no business teaching; he literally hates his students. I’ve never seen anything like it and I usually can find the good in people. I’ve had a 4.0 for the last three semesters and I’ll be lucky if I pass. His lectures don’t make any sense what so ever and he makes all his students feel like idiots. If you ask a qu
Tough teacher. He was very rude to many students in lab if you didnt understand questions he made fun or of you or made you feel dumb for even asking a question. His tests start out very hard but they do seem to get easier.
Very hard teacher, essay question on tests, made you feel dumb. Take a other teacher if you can. Very bad at teaching!
worst teacher i have ever had. Extremely hard test and is not clear on his lecture at all. Makes you feel like an idiot. Doesn't help you any if you go to his office for help. DON NOT TAKE HIM AS A PROF! find someone else to take.
aweful
As has been said, Ed's intelligence is his downfall. He has trouble understanding how concepts that are so simple to him are new to us. He is though a wealth of knowledge and you can learn a lot if you have a good attitude. He takes some getting used to but if you put forth the effort you'll do fine.
Very confusing teacher. Does not explain concepts well. Not willing to help. Very rude and makes you feel stupid when asking for help. As said, he doesn't understand all the concepts are new to us. Not an exciting class and wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Many unhappy students and many had to withdraw.
Half our class dropped, but in the end those who stayed and got descent grades said they learned more than they ever have in a class and will miss it. A good grade is possible but you have to take notes well enough so that you can explain things the same way he did. Ask about anything that isn't clear, he is very willing to help during office hours
attendance isn't mandatory for lecture, but for lab it is a big part of your grade so your attendance counts for that. no mandatory textbook, only a little packet you must buy from book store
Take him for astronomy and it takes 76% to get an A. Just show up for class and your good. No Homework.
Take this class with him and fail...end of story!
When it comes down to it, he's a great prof. Maybe a little hard to get used to, but he knows his stuff and knows how to teach it. Ed's classes are not for the faint hearted, but if you're willing to work at learning the material, you'll come out with a decent grade and a brainload of new knowledge.
By far the worst teacher I have ever had in my life. Do not take this d-bag. You will fail this class if you do not memorize everything word for word. He tells you not to bother buying the book and there is no homework to study from. Just his horrible notes that make no sense!
By far the worst PROFESSOR ever. Doesn't care about anyone and expects you to know everything. He grades way to hard, you have to repeat back exactly what he taught you on the tests in short answer. Never take him, 30-40% of his students fail or withdrawl? How does the dean not see that he is a mistake....
This professor should not be teaching. He intentionally demeans students. It is as though he was picked on as a kid. I learned a lot, but really think he is miserable. His unhappiness results in a hostile learning environment. A perfect example of why the teachers unions are not focused on the best interest of the students.
Very hard grader, terrible teacher. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS.
He really isnt that bad. Just show up to class EVERYDAY and make sure you take good notes. Give your self 2 weeks to study his material, and you should be fine.
Very Difficult class. Ed tells you that not everything thats on the test is in the book but then if you ask a question he tells you to look in your book. he jumps around alot and gives terrible lecture. no study guides and hardest tests you will take. all answers were pretty much a paragraph or more. test questions were not stated well at all
Meteorology is tough-if your a structured person get the book. His power points consist of pictures and titles. He writes on the board(terrible handwriting) & mumbles the end of sentences. Mentions something we wont need in class only to look like a know it all. Gives too many physical examples, very confusing. His ideas don't translate well.
BEST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER HAD! Yes his astronomy class was hard but worth it. He's the only professor Ive ever learned from. Write down everything he says. Tests are hard if you miss class or dont study, but no homework! Ask questions. Come EVERY day. overall great prof if you are ready to learn and do the work! hard class but youll ACTUALLY learn
If you go to class when you are supposed to it becomes an enjoable experience. If you study before the test, your grades will show it. Just write alot down when he talks. Always feel free to ask questions during or after class. Oh, the no homework thing was nice too!
Best science teacher I've had in college. Everyone else I know hates him, but I think they just didn't apply themselves so they got a bad grade. If you go to class and know how to take notes (you're in college, so you should), you'll do fine. NO HOMEWORK! :) Suited my learning style perfectly! I learned so much.
I don't understand why everyone thought this was a horrible class? As long as you study, it's quite easy! If you have any questions, be sure to ask, Ed is very helpful! The first couple tests were the hardest, after that, they were fine! He also drops your lowest test score. I only needed a 20% on the final to get an A in the class!
This class seemed like is was going to be hard at first, but as long as you study for tests and show up, its really easy. The tests get easier, and he dropped the lowest, AND for this class a 76 (i think) is an A, so its not that difficult. Just apply yourself, and dont get the book, you probably will never use it!
I'm not sure what he wants. I get my tests back and he goes through the answers, i have the almost word for word same answer and I get maybe 1 point. I believe the tests are straight forward but I don't know what answer he is looking for. One professor who can't speak english well and this one, lose-lose GRRR! Get it together AR
Went to class everyday, took all the notes, studied for every test and still had to withdrawl. The test are mostly pragraph style and are horrible. If you dont write word for word what he wants you get hardly any credit.
I felt as though I never fully grasped the concept of what he wanted on the test for answers. He hates the words "thus, or therefore", and you probably will be instantly marked off for using them. After the first 3 tests, you understand more of how he wants the test answers to be. Go to lecture and analyze what he wants, and you can pass.
Worst teacher I have ever taken at ARCC. I never understaood what exactly he wanted from the students and he was very rude when it came to asking for help. I personally think he is a cold hearted man. I dropped his class. Do yourself a favor and don't take him. I'm now taing Astronomy at the Cambridge campus because I refused to take him again.
I took meteorology with Ed and it was pretty besic: come to class, take very good notes, and review them frequently. You will fail if you do not study and go to labs. otherwise it is not a bad class and Ed is a good and very helpful teacher
Great teacher, very knowledgeable about the subject matter AND what students are willing to do. No homework - just come to class, take notes, and you'll be fine. Willing to answer any question in class, never felt rushed, ever. A very chill guy.
I took Meterology with Ed. I thought he was a VERY nice man. He always helped when I had any questions and was not hard to approach. Come to class, take notes, don't buy the text you don't need it. Scantron tests and 75% is an A. Four tests i believe and no homework at all!
His Astronomy class is wonderful, no homework makes life easier, just show up and take notes and you will do fine.
I had never taken an astronomy class prior to this one and it has been by far the most difficult class I've had to take. you're only graded on tests which SUCKS because his tests are INSANE. there's a bunch of LIST ALL questions that might only have one answer and half the stuff on the tests hadnt even been covered in class. he would talk
extremely fast and expect us to write down everything he said to understand the concepts that already made no sense. he said we didn't need a textbook but if i didnt buy it i literally would have failed this class even with all the hard work i did. i left with no knowledge and went with no knowledge. and i was an honor roll student in high school.
Hard, non-helpful. Impossible tests.
Frustrating. Seems to dislike online students. Unhelpful with learning. Won't let you see your exams. Controls the day you can take exams. Only gives exams. Study guides don't match what is on the exam. Expects you to grasp the concepts by yourself apparently. Thought it would be interesting, hate, hate, hate this class.
can't read his handwriting. Test don't apply to content he teaches. Only grades on 5 tests. Do not recommend this teacher.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS ONLINE! You do not get to see your tests to see what you were getting wrong and it only goes more in depth in the next chapters. Extremely frustrating class. Questions are worded such that you have to perfectly grasp concepts and be able to apply them while reading 100 pages a week. Study guides do not help.
Worst online class ever. You receive no feedback on tests; you have no idea what you got correct or incorrect; his diagrams are not even close to those in the book; study guides are useless; multiple choice answers & several are listed in the book, but you can choose only one. Course is designed to collect tuition and fail as many as possible.
this guy was just awful. I ended up dropping the class 6 weeks in because I failed the first test, and could never completely grasp the concepts he wanted us to learn. He talks extremely fast and does not explain anything clearly. DO NOT take this guy for astronomy.
I really dislike his teaching. You have 5 tests and your whole grade is based on those. There is no other way to bring your grade up. You dont even need the textbook. And his lectures are so unclear. I have to look up the concepts online so I understand them better because he can't do it in class. If you ask a question, he makes fun of you.
He is a tough professor. But if you show up and take notes, review them, and show up for labs you'll do fine. One of those classes that requires actual understanding, which is why a lot of people struggle. Even though he's tough he is super nice.
Great class. No homework, just 4 tests. Read your assigned readings, take notes, and be prepared for tests. Easy A
No homework. 4 Exams, Study for them and you will be fine!
Ed Wehling's only savivng grace is that 81% gets you an A in his class. He has very poor teaching skills, poor handwriting, and doesn't complete a thought when lecturing. His tests require you to write word-for-word what he is saying or no credit even if you are saying the same thing. He also harasses struggling students and makes fun of them.
Your grade is completely based four multiple choice tests. He only tested on the material he lectured on so the book wasn't required. If you show up and pay attention you should do fine in his class. He encourages students to see him after class or go to his office if they aren't understanding the materials and need help.
NO MATH! 4 Test plus Final.,14 Labs.. Lowest test grade dropped. You get extra 15% boost if attend 13 labs which has nothing to do with lecture. NO HOMEWORK. You take notes throughout the whole lecture, notes he writes on board is very confusing so write more down than what he puts on the board. Book is optional but helps since he has D2L help.
Professor Wehling was a nice guy, but I had a hard time in his online course. Although I received an A, I had a hard time learning. There are no assignments, just exams (which are HARD!). For someone who enjoys learning by practice, this whole "no assignment" thing was difficult. Overall, an average class. MAP OUT TIME TO READ!
He has a low curve (75% and up is an A) but that is because he in my opinion is a terrible test writer and organizer of lectures. NO homework. All tests. Take if you're good at tests. Obscenely good at tests. no text. nor could i use one since it was PSEO.
Hardest class I've ever taken
Class was based on 5 tests, he drops the lowest score. No homework, so make sure to study, study, study!! He explains complicated science to non-science people well. He breaks it down in ways you can understand the material. Always willing to answer questions!
I love astronomy, don't get me wrong, but this class was the absolute worst. He did not seem to teach me anything unless you count utter confusion as something valuable. He was not helpful if asked a question and never really seemed to complete whole thoughts when explaining things. Textbook is optional but I honestly HAD to buy it just to pass.
This class is based off test score averages nothing more(7 total). You put in the time to learn it you will succeed. Whatever advice he gives, follow it.
He's very passionate about the weather and there is no homework or book. There are 5 tests and the average of 4 of them determines your grade. Labs are passfail. If you show up, take good notes, and use the topic outline, it is a relatively easy A. Some people say he is rude but he just doesn't take any crap. If you respect him he will respect you
I got nothing out this subject of it due to the poorness of this professor. He DOES NOT care if you understand the material and does not answer questions. The book we used was already out-dated and had NOTHING to do with the tests. I had to YouTube lessons because his test were so hard. HE IS AWFUL, DON'T TAKE ONLINE!
At the start of the semester, I was really intimidated by Ed. However, by the end, he seemed more open and friendly and easier to approach. Maybe that was because all the people who didn't care had left?? Well, doesn't matter. I would definitely take this class again.
Ed really loves astronomy, but sometimes he starts writing really fast and it's hard to understand what we are supposed to be learning. The tests are hard and you want to make sure you study many days beforehand. He does provide stress balls for the test, though. If you have questions, ask, he is more than happy to answer.
I really like him. He has clear criteria for testing, labs, and grading. I took Geology with lab with Professor Wehling. The whole course is basically lecture, but he tries to make it fun and engaging. The class is not boring, though. You NEED to go to class and study, otherwise you will not pass. One good thing is that he makes 80-100% an A.
Ed's really not for everyone, however, during my time at AR he was one of my favorite professors. He's really sarcastic and has a lot of really interesting stories, but he comes off strict, if that makes sense. His tests are hard (he grades on a curve), but as long as you take good notes, ask questions, and pay attention in lab, you'll pass.
If you are not good at science do NOT take Ed's class. Concepts are hard and he does a poor job explaining them. If you ask for clarification he treats you as though you're stupid. Your grade is based solely on HARD tests. This is not an easy A class. Do yourself a favor and skip out on this class.
Ed is an intimidating professor but he has fantastic lectures and really knows his stuff. The way he words thing and lays out his material is fantastic. Many people give him a bad reputation because he doesn't spoon feed you. As long as you and listen to lecture you will be just fine.
Ed did scare me at first, not going to lie. He comes off strict and mean, but it becomes obvious after a few classes that he really cares about his students, and he seriously wants you to succeed. This was the first science class I've taken in 11 years and he managed to get me interested and clear on what is being taught.
Only 7 exams matter for your grade, no homework or quizzes. This class is what you make it, read the required chapters completely and print the study guides, they tell you what to read or skip. Read all of the online content for each chapter it helps a ton. Easy class if you do that, Ed is super willing to help anyone and he's nice.
I am usually a B student and this class was manageable. If you fail one exam, don't worry- he drops your worst exam. You also get extra credit points in the lab portion just for showing up. Not a hard class if you study 1-2 days in advance.
Ed is extremely passionate in this subject, but it is kind of a "jumping off the deep end of the pool" vs "taking the steps" kind of class. absolutely the hardest class i have ever taken in my life. I was taking accelerated 7 week classes at the same time and they were easier. Low grading curve helped. All reading from the text and 7 timed exams.
Ed is an ok prof. He is passionate about what he teaches, but swears in the classroom... He is also willing to meet with students to go over questions. He grades on four out of five exams; your lowest score is dropped. His lectures are what the tests are on. With no outside homework, the only way to do well is by studying! 75% & up is an A.
Ed is a below average teacher. He believes that homework isn't beneficial so you will only take exams. The exams are extremely hard and the study guides that he gives you is pointless. This was the first class I've ever dropped, and I've been at Anoka Ramsey for 2 years, that says a lot.
There are no assignments or quizzes in this class- just 7 tests over the semester. The tests are pretty difficult, but he curves it so that a 75%< is an A.
One of the hardest classes that I have taken at anoka ramsey. He does not believe in homework or textbooks. The trade off is that to learn the material you have to attend class to learn. His tests are very difficult, you can not wing them. He has a multiple choice test and then a short answer exam for each unit. You MUST study outside of class!
Not always clear about what exactly we will be tested on
Ed is amazing this is a class you should take if you have heavy homework loads in your other classes. You only have 5 tests nothing else and if you follow the explanation documents and take notes this class will be a breeze. Everyone says Eds hard but this is how adult college is supposed to be!
I took an online class from Ed. While I passed the class with an A, it was one of the hardest classes that I have ever taken. You won't pass his tests, which is your entire grade, unless you are thoroughly reading the chapters and following along with the provided notes that he gives, while taking your own notes. Time and dedication is a must.
His online class was extremely difficult. He doesnt believe in homework or discussions, only exams. They are extremely hard, and while he gives you a study guide, most of the things on the exam arent on the study guide. That makes it extremely difficult to study, especially when he gives you four chapters to read every two weeks. Wouldnt rec. ):
Test were hard, but if you thoroughly read the chapters and take notes (and use his study guides) you should be fine. Ed also curves your grade, which is honestly so helpful and drops the lowest test score.
I liked his class pretty well. The lectures were interesting as well. But the tests are hard to pass, class average was about 50%-60%. Showing up to class wasn't mandatory but necessary.
Ed is such a great professor. He understands that we are there to learn and he is there to teach us. There is no homework, only exams. I recommend quizzing friends and following Ed's advice for studying. He also grades on a different scale, which makes an A accessible. He explains stuff in good detail and will answer any questions. TAKE HIM
Ed can be intimidating, but if you're respectful and you pay attention (actually showing up to class helps), then you'll be in good shape. No homework, only tests, and they are straight out of the notes you take during lecture.
A professor that genuinely cares about his students and strives to teach them real-world skills. Class is based solely on lectures so take good notes in order to do well on exams.
I was pretty nervous about taking this class, but it was the best decision I made all semester. Ed really wants to see his students succeed, and his teaching style is refreshing and lectures are easy to follow. No homework, just 5 exams, and he drops the lowest score. Even so, I learned more in this class than most. It's worth the extra studying!
To be frank, Ed scared me during one of the early labs. And since there is no homework and the tests are hard, I feared it to be the worst course I would take at AR; I was wrong. Ed is an amazing professor; if you take good notes, do every lab, and actually study you'll pass no problem. He's actually nice and cares about his students.
I took the online Astronomy class with Ed, he's very generous with grading. Anything 75% or above is considered an A. He doesn't do homework, which can be a good or bad thing. There's 7 exams, and of the first 6 he drops the lowest score. He provides study guides, but you need to actually read the chapter to do well on the exams.
I took astronomy online with professor Wehling. He isn't a bad teacher, per se, but rather, not really a teacher at all. The most he does is moderate your own learning by providing a loose study guide and extra reading materials. Actually read and study the textbook and extra materials efficiently. Every 2-3 weeks you take 1 test, but that's it.
If you don't slack, anybody can get an A in this class. All you have to do is read the study guides, the textbook and take 7 tests. The tests are not easy but if you know all the stuff the study guides tell you to, you should be fine. Grading scale is super lenient and lowest score gets dropped. He emails about how you're doing gradewise too.
It really is hit or miss with Ed. He clearly knows Geology profoundly, but is unrealistic with grading especially with which students actually care about their grade. No doubt he pushes students which is a good thing, but he needs to change his grading format.
Professor Wehling is a very interesting man but is truly a hit or miss class wise. My astronomy class was online from the start and we were only graded on 6 out of 7 tests, that's it. Students do a lot of outside studying from the book, which he provided many resources. Overall, follow his expectations and you will succeed.
This class was easy for three reasons : I enjoy the subject, I am an excellent reader and Ed gives you step by step study guides that further explain the material, with included links to learn more. There are 7 tests, all timed. If you have trouble reading quickly, you may do poorly on tests. Ed's a great teacher, and available if you need help.
The lecture potion of this course was entirely comprised by a textbook, and is very much an independent study. The entire grade for the course is determined by a series of tests. If you are uncomfortable with this type of class, I would recommend taking it in person, but it worked for me as an independent learner.
I took Ed's class online. He gives you a PowerPoint that covers certain topics of whatever subject you're working on for the week and skims over them, not getting important information to you at all. Be prepared to google extra stuff because you'll need it. A teacher needs to be better prepared for an online class. Ed is horrible at it.
Don't take a class with him online unless you like independent learning. If you read the book and the study guide, the class isn't too bad. The trickiest part of online is that you aren't allowed to go back to previous questions. He seems like a good professor, but only take in person. I usually enjoy online, but the formatting wasn't the greatest.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. I am a A student and I got my first ever B with Wehling. He only grades on seven test which are timed and impossible to take. He hand writes them and disagrees with our textbook on the material. Not only are his tests hard, he has a super confusing grading policy. With conflicting informational updates about your grades.
I would not recommend him for this class at least. I have only taken him for this class, but he makes it extremely difficult to get a good grade. Your grade is based off the exam score and most information from the exam can only be found when you read in between the lines of the text. There is a study guide but it gives you basically nothing.
This was a weird class set-up. Each assignment was pass or fail and we could work ahead a bit. Since it was a two credit class, there wasn't a lot of work, and some assignments were a bit easier than others. Lots of great feedback and I was done with the class by Thanksgiving.
This was definitely the easiest 4 credit class I've ever taken at Anoka Ramsey. Assignments are pass or fail either 0/10 or 10/10. To get an A in his class you have to get 270 points with 20 points of assignments each week. That means you can skip about 7 assignments throughout the semester. The assignment answers can all be found in his lecture.
If youre planning on pursuing anything in Natural Sciences AR is not the place for you as long as he is on staff. You never step foot outside his classroom. Read the comments of people who got good grades but still say he is an awful teacher That alone speaks volumes. In geology you look at PICTURES of rocks. The Mississippi is 100 feet away
He was so unprepared , He gave me a list of people on staff to email just to get our lab manuals because he didnt order nearly enough. I found out later on , the reason he has students contact the bookstore is because they cant stand dealing with him. The man uses Iron Man action figures to explain how the jet stream works.
