Super great professor. Knows his material and expects you to know it as the semester continues. Hes very respectful towards his students. Easy to get a hold of. Especially since the whole covid thing. You will Learn Olea ty Id you pay attention and put in the work. Take him you wont regret it and good luck .
Absolutely amazing professor. I was so scared to take biology as science is not my strong, but his class was structured well. He doesnt make you get the book, instead he gives all in the info in the lectures. I made quizlets based off of his lectures and was able to get an A. He cares a lot about his students and it really shows. Take him!
Appreciate the well thorough lecture notes, but not willing to work with students when it comes to quizzes/tests.
There was so much material that was covered!! For me, the class was pretty intense. It was basically 16 weeks of work squeezed into a 5 week summer session. I almost ended up with a B grade but luckily professor hernandez drops the 2 lowest quiz scores and the lowest midterm score. he also provided 2 extra credit options. Do both of them!!!!
(Genetics class) The guy is horrible. One of the worst at ELAC. He records audio lectures while just showing photos. His midterms and quizzes are LOADED with errors. I literally had to get 11 points added to my midterm, no joke! He contradicts himself a lot, and his lecture notes and videos don't line up more than half the time. Avoid!!!!!
All his lectures are pre recorded, I would suggest to buy the book and read it yourself, the lectures is pretty much reading the book. THERE IS NO STUDY GUIDE your notes are your study guide which is PRETTY MUCH THE WHOLE CHAPTER. Whats worst about this all is that HE'S NOT AVAILABLE FOR HIS STUDENTS. The worst professor find someone else.
I messed up on the first and second midterm because I was working full-time and trying to handle this class. This class is no joke. You can't fall behind and try to catch up at the last minute before quizzes and exams. I cut back on my hours and stepped up my game. If it wasn't for the zoom recordings, I wouldn't have made it this far.
lectures are heavy. Overall he does give you the option to do extra credit and he drops 2 of your lowest quizzes and a low midterm.
Quizzes, midterms, and lab exams are all straightforward so far. Currently holding onto a "B" in the class.
I think that the lab section might have been much harder if we had to do the dissections ourselves of the cat, sheep brain and cow eye/heart. He did everything for us.
Anatomy was a tough subject indeed, professor preps you well and you learn! There are 7 quizzes 4 midterms and 3 labs. He dropped the lowest mid term and 2 of the lowest quizzes which is great. Now listen!! DO THE EXTRA CREDIT. That made my grade a A out of a B. Test are multiple choice. No dissecting! Take notes on labs none of those are drop.
The two extra credits saved my butt too! I barely missed getting a C. All that material on the nervous system is crazy. Dayuuuum!
I liked how histology is the bridge between structure and function. The professor said that ELAC once had an electron microscopy certificate program. Too bad it's not around any longer. I would have liked to have learned some more about imaging tissues.
This instructor has some guts. He was teaching while having gallstones and he kept lecturing even after his gallbladder surgery.
The professor sends out reminders for upcoming quizzes and midterms even though they are already posted on the syllabus.
Taking him right now for biology 003. Cool class. Definitely wants his students to succeed. Taking him for anatomy in the summer too!
Firme vato. There are lab quizzes each week. He grades lab exercises fast, but no late submission.
Professor Hernandez totally reminds me of my teachers I had at Bravo Medical Magnet. The night before the lecture final I kept hearing him say "CRISPR, CRISPR, CRISPR." lol. Excited for next semester!!
Watch out!!!!! he uses weird looking animals for the animal diversity lab. you'll see!!!!!!
Intense Summer(Accelerated course)Included 7 quizzes,3 Midterms,2 Lab Practicals &1 Final exam. Timing is crucial on each Exam but it you put in the effort and watch the Lab/Lecture Videos you will definitely pass. The great thing is the opportunity of E/C and he drops two exams. Very thorough in his explanations. Awesome Professor 100% recommend.
Word up y'all this class is a beast. The class moves hella fast. Definitely doable but don't fall behind or its game over for you. Do the extra credit early.
Whenever I studied I used the Kaplan anatomy coloring book and the anatomy flashcards together with the zoom recordings & his guided lecture notes to help make things stick. The nice thing is he wants everyone to succeed.
I tried taking this class online before but I feel I got much more out of this class by taking it in person. Huge difference! I am a CNA trying to get into the LVN program. My friend is in RN program and she recommended this professor. Is true, this class was a lot of material but he stays until 10:30 pm in lab and has anatomy open lab every week.
There's only a handful of professors that are passionate about what they teach. He's one of them. Your whole grade is based off tests and he's generous with the extra credit. No homework at all. He's very inviting when it comes to answer questions. He wants everyone to try and pass the class. Strongly recommend
Professor Hernandez is clearly passionate and knowledgeable in Biology. I took this class upon returning to school after many years to begin my degree in Biology. He provides outlines for his lectures that are easy to follow. He doesn't give surprise questions. He goes straight to the point. I would highly recommend taking his class.
Professor Hernandez reminded me of Mr. Shah. If you attended Montebello high school and took Mr. Shah for math, then you know. Total student advocate =)
You basically teach yourself based off the lecture videos and notes (Not worth money/time). Long lecture videos and notes. Make sure you don't have a busy schedule if you decide to take this course since it requires at least 6+ hours of completing assignments and studying rigorously. Definitely not easy so don't expect an A without working for it.
Professor Hernandez's enthusiasm for biology inspired me to continue reading other books on the topic of ecology.
Took Professor Hernandez in the fall. Everything was pretty straight forward. The quizzes and midterms are all based on his Zoom recordings and lecture notes that he posts. Review those and you'll be fine. No tricky stuff. The two lowest quizzes and lowest midterm score get dropped at the end of the semester. Definitely recommend him!
Eddie is very passionate about anatomy he is very helpful & will answer all of your questions. I failed to prepare well enough for his class so be prepared & have good time management!! He uses canvas ONLY for announcements, you won't be able to see your grade unless you ask him. Lab exams were unorganized but he corrected most questions. STUDYHARD
Most of us worked full-time or part-time and the learning center was closed on Friday and Saturday. Every week the professor came into lab early and stayed late. It was helpful for working with the models, going over the dissections, and understanding the different histology slides. It is not advisable to skip class. Anatomy was not a piece of cake
He is very clear and fair in his testing and grading. Highly recommend.
I had to withdrawal due to a family emergency but I am already enrolled to take class over again with him in the fall semester.
Lectures were disorganized and often delayed. Last-minute exam date changes were frustrating. Attempts at humor fell flat and bordered on ignorance. Unnecessary remarks about appearance and class comparisons were unprofessional. Emphasized course difficulty without providing meaningful support, giving only memorization lists.
The exams were surprisingly fair, but he does test on a lot of material for each midterm. Every day for the entire 5-week summer session he either arrived early or remained late in the lab to review and answer questions. His mock lab exams really helped prepare for the real lab practical exams. Lab exams were about identifying a lot of structures.
He is a kind professor. The lecture exams are online so they are not difficult. He know what we did with the lectures exams. But he gives us a way to survive in his class. And his anatomy class is super easy if you compare with the terribleness of true anatomy class in medical school. Take his class if you want to get an A for anatomy class.
I took his 5-week summer class. Lectures were online and for 4 days out the week we had lab hours for ~2.5 hrs You really have to buckle down and lock in to the material because it's 3.5 months of material crammed into 5 weeks. Professor is lively and on point with his knowledge. If other people received a bad grade it's because they didn't study.
Prof was unorganized and made comments that were unnecessary and unprofessional. Tries to be funny but it didn't work and took away from those of us trying to go in and succeed without being compared to others. Get prepared to spend hours memorizing everything because it's crammed. overall okay but would not recommend taking it with this professor.
It was a rough ride for me. I worked, helped take care of my dad and studied in between. I printed his lecture outlines at FedEx office or the library and reviewed them with Zoom in the break room, in my car or at home. I reviewed the final exam study guide carefully and did both extra credits. I bought the small white board to practice with.
Prof looked clean cut and well groomed. Prof made slight adjustments to schedule but was well organized over all. The lecture textbook was optional, but I rented it from Chegg. Any haters got their own demons tormenting them and their own karma is gonna get them in due time. I dropped in for office hour 1x per week too. The professor was cool af.
I took biology 3 in the spring semester 2023 online. The professor was very organized and I felt comfortable asking him any questions. You just have to watch the zoom lecture videos in order to understand. You will find all the answers for the quizzes and exams if you see the videos and review the guided lecture notes together. I learned a lot.
Very energetic professor. I don't believe we ever saw him sit down in lecture or lab. The lab quizzes, mock lab exams, lab handouts/flow charts, and dissection mats were SUPER helpful. The professor always stayed late to help us get more out of lab..
I didn't know how I was going to get through Anatomy, especially as a nontraditional student returning to school many years after my first BA. All you have to do is your part and study the materials given. Professor Hernandez really cares about his students and wants them to do well, and succeed not just in class but in life.
I totatlly bombed the first lab exam. Not a super hard class but definitely not an easy a. Do the work, review the material, and you won't fall behind.
Prof. Hernandez was hands-down, exceptional! Student-centered teaching style; Lectures VERY informative; Dedicates additional time to his students, without being required. If you put in the time to study the lecture notes and lab material, plus dedicating your own time at the Learning Center, you should pass this class with a B or better! -Bree
Professor Hernandez cares about his students a lot. His lectures are easy to follow as he's very repetitive on items you need to know. He has extra credit questions on all exams in addition to the blood donation. I donated blood plasma instead and got $80 at the BioLife Plasma Center =)
Pay attention in each lecture and take notes of anything he talks about that he did not write on the board. He drops the 2 lowest quizzes for Lab and 2 lowest quizzes and the lowest mid-term for lecture. Do well on your mid-terms and exams and you'll get an A or B. If you are a visual learner check out Ninja Nerd and crash course on anatomy topics.
The final exam was like a big review but the midterm exams are much more comprehensive. Do both extra credit options. STUDY all the handouts that he gives in lecture and lab CAREFULLY. If he physically illustrates something, it will show up on a quiz or exam.
His mock lab exams were very helpful. This was my first class taking those type of timed tests where you have to go around identifying different structures and tissue types. Without the mock exams I would have been totally clueless of what to expect or how to prepare.
Professor Hernandez is a great teacher. You learn a lot and you hardly even notice you are with his high energy lectures and geeky jokes. I truly enjoyed his class.
The discussion posts from everyone were interesting and thought provoking.
Prof. Hernandez was one of the best professors I've had. He's encouraging and caring, and he genuinely makes lectures fun. He is very clear about assignments and his style of grading, so it's easier to succeed. He is always encouraging students to come to his Zoom office hours or email him with any issues or questions, because he is ready to help!
OMG we just took the first lab exam and the professor did a review afterward. I almost answered all of them correctly!! The professor's lab quizzes and the practice lab exam are so helpful because they get you ready for the real test. I was so nervous. Take good pictures of all the charts he puts out in the lab each week and his slides that he uses
The workload was definitely manageable and he provides enough time to get everything in. This helped since I was taking other classes and working part-time. Just don't miss the due dates/deadlines for submission.
Hes ok, but unorganized. If you can take a different professor, TAKE a different professor. Lab class is not organized gives you a paper and makes you figure it out on your own, helps a bit but not too much. GIVES ONLY A FEW SLIDES ON CANVAS if you are a visual learner, this class is NOT FOR YOU. 3.5 at best. s
He is alright overall, but I wouldn't rate him a 5. He does not provide many PowerPoints or any, depending on what your learning. He doesn't break things down during lecture in a way where you will comprehend how things connect but rather give an outline. Overall, he could be better organized and provide more resources outside of lecture and lab.
So glad the professor held another mock lab exam. It was helpful for the muscles and cat dissections. normally he does a review after each lab quiz which helps too. Quizzes are based off the structures listed in the lab handouts and he uses power point images of different model structures and dissections on the quizzes. I'm still holding onto my A.
I like the professors chalk and talk lecture style. He writes down the main concepts with supporting details using flow charts followed by key images but not too many. It gives me time to write everything down and process the information better. Another professor gave us packets and flew through the PowerPoint. university charter.
I'm a visual learner and I learn a lot from his class. I'm taking 19 units with anatomy. This class is manageable. as long as you attend lectures and lab and ask questions, if needed, you'll be okay! Do NOT procrastinate. Overall he is a good professor.
Do not take his class save your self a headache TEST ARE TRICKY he changes he wording in test compared to what is on "outline" for lecture notes Studying based on lecture notes not enough. He adds more additional questions, mentioned only once in class.& WILL not write it on the BOARD and will most likely appear on the EXAM. Only 12 students left..
I strongly recommend reconsidering this class! I have never felt so unprepared for a course in my entire life. LECTURE EXAMS ARE THE WORST!!
On the first day of class the professor told us that he only tests on what he mentions in lecture and what he copies on the board. It has been true. No tricky stuff and nothing outside of what is covered during lecture is tested on. Pay attention during lectures, ask questions, and review and revise your notes and you should be good!
We took another lecture exam yesterday and everything that was tested on came only from what he talked about during lectures and wrote on the white board. All his exams have been straight forward and include extra credit questions. if someone misses class or does not pay attention to what he says, they don't do well and blame the professor.
He gives you packets with all the things you need to know for the lab exams and then you're on your own in class. So all of the learning will be done by yourself outside of class through youtube videos or other online resources. For lectures be prepared to study all the notes he writes on the board plus some extra stuff he doesnt write.
He provides a study guide for the final and has a bunch of images of different models and dissections in the lab canvas shell. there are EC questions on all 4 lecture exams and all 3 lab exams and also gives EC for visiting the tutors. drops 1 midterm, 2 lab quizzes and 2 lecture quizzes =)) Lec. & lab are interactive. Not crazy hard but not easy.
OMGEEEEEEEE!!!! The final was HELLA easy. It's like a big review. i'mma use the 4th exam as my drop MT. Thank you professor for staying all the late nights in lab to help us.Time to decaffeinate. LOL Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Professor Hernandez is a great educator and he genuinely wants his students to succeed. Anatomy is A LOT but he sets up the course in a way to help you stay up to date with the material. He provides extra credit on the exams and a study guide for the final. Go to class, engage, ask questions, stay on top of the material, and you will succeed.
Professor Hernandez is great. I think the expectations for success are clear on the syllabus and he reiterates it throughout the course. Test questions are based on what he writes and what he says in lecture which I think is fair. He also provides opportunities for extra cred. Do your part and you will do good. What you put in is what you get out.
On the first day of class the professor asked 3 anatomy questions but nobody answered. At the end of our last lecture, he asked the same questions again and this time the class responded to all 3 questions correctly. Sick!
I took prof H for Anatomy 001 in my freshman year first semester, and he was super supportive of every student! He writes his lecture notes on board, doesn't use PowerPoints, but you learn so much from his class. Definitely the class is not an easy A, you gotta work real hard and know the material; but it pays off. Very supportive, be try thorough!
This professor created a stress-free learning environment, allowing me to complete the class smoothly and successfully. I am so happy to have taken his class, and I highly recommend it!
I think Professor Hernandez teaches this class as best as he can. The class itself is not an easy subject and there are a lot of strutcutres and funcitons you need to learn. The workload is mainly studying. I studied every single weekend and did not have a life all semester.
Loved being in his class has a great personality. But Personally if you want to pass anatomy do not take him. Very unorganized. He will fall behind him self but still test you on it and he'll say he said explained it. No lecture power points to study off of. Only your notes. Very unorganized!!
He is a really nice professor and gives good feedback and always ready to help. He provides a lot of resources to help you succeed in anatomy. It also helps to make time every week to practice with the models at the learning assistance center.
His lecture style keeps me engaged because it forces me to write down the material which is super helpful with anatomy. He also provides guides on how to study for lecture and lab. All the PPT images he uses in lecture are in the lab manual associated with the pre-lab exercises, so I usually bring it with me to lecture. Lectures are interactive.
If you haven't taken Anatomy before don't take this class. It was taught like a crash course. The lectures felt very rushed and the notes seemed useless when it came to quizzes and tests. It helps to read chapters ahead of class because he adds stuff on the tests, he hasn't gone over yet. Overall, he means well, he cares about his students.
I LOVE PROFESSOR Hernandez's LECTURES, ENERGY, AND PASSION FOR TEACHING. The lab is a lot but it was well structured plus he provides a bunch of resources. Lecture quzzes and exams are based only on material presented during lectures. Just keep up with the work and don't fall behind Overall, I learned a lot.
AMAZING class! first year student and passed with an A. You get the grade based on the amount of work you put in. He drops 1 lecture exam and two lab & lecture quizzes. All you need to study are his notes(voice record his lecture) whatever he doesn't write on the board but says it in class might be on the exam. Plenty of chances for extra credit.
Start studying for the final as soon as he gives the study guide. It's crystal clear and the only material that shows up on the final is what is on the study guide. I procrastinated not realizing how much we had actually covered over the semester. Now I regret.
stay on top of your studying b/c the material builds quickly & review all the support he posts (videos, etc.) on Canvas. FYI: The EC questions on all lab exams will either be a histology slide + a dissection, X-ray image & dissection, or X-ray image + histology slide. Make sure to maximize your time in lab with the models too.
I was not a big fan of his lectures, due to him not writing all the information on the board. BUT I would retake him AGAIN. I'm currently reviewing for my TEAS exam and I can confidently say Hernandez did outstanding job preparing his students for these types of exams and for Physiology. Advice: Learn your study method.
I actually liked his lectures. There's quite a bit of Q & A during lecture and the energy and enthusiasm he brings to class helps. He uses props to illustrate things in lecture. There is very little that he says but does not write on the board. He did tell the class on the first day only what he says or writes is fair game. Listen for "key point".
Great professor, the workload is super straight forward and 100% doable. I'm taking it now during the 5-week summer session, so it's pretty intense. if you study, you'll be fine. His lecture style is fun and engaging and he does not have monotone style. I would definitely take any class this Professor teaches!
If you want to learn Biology, just take him. His class materials are organized and easy to understand. Be prepared to do the lab work. He is a fair grader. If he understands that you are trying, he would help you out one on one. Very knowledgeable, and I am so glad that I was able to take his class.
Great professor! I was retaking the class, and with him, it was easier to understand the material. His class consists of him writing on the board and you taking notes. I'll recommend him, but put in the work! He provides study guides for the lab, extra credit, drops 1 lecture exam, and drops the lowest score for lecture and lab quizzes.
This class was a lot of work but I learned so much! So many extra credit opportunities, if you are doing your best, you will likely get an A. He is also a very understanding professor and will help you during office hours if needed!
I honestly wish all science professors were like this professor. yes, anatomy is a hard subject but the fact that he gives you all kinds of material to succeed in his class is why I'm rating him high. I took him during a full semester and it was intense, but he was always there to answer questions when needed.
Biology 003 was very interesting, self-paced, and easy to pass if you put in the work. PART of the course uses an online program. If you do the work, you can get an A. It was a lot of work, but definitely doable. Quizlet is your best friend with this class. TRUST ME, TAKE THIS CLASS!!
