Gives a lot of information and no homework. First test was taken after almost 6 weeks and it was a lot of information to retain...
lecture is ok, everything on the board, and test a bit tough.
cool prof
no homework to turn in!!!
Very cool guy. Likes to joke around in class. Writes everything on the board and gives out papers with additional information. Tests are pretty hard with lots of calculations. Does do an occational experiment during lecture (he likes to blow stuff up).
Ed was so fun, and funny. Always explained things if we didn't get it..thanks Dr. Ong haha if u took him you know he hates titles.
Ed is a nice guy, but sometimes he is a little confusing and expects students to know stuff before he teaches it. He is an easy teacher and has an AWESOME curve to his class. Make sure you do the homework... he will eventually collect it. And it can be the difference between an A and a B. So do it! I ended up with a strong A in the lab and lecture
he will explain everything! he's just so damn good! if u hate chem, u'll love it after taking him!
What can I say? Ed is awesome. He gets behind in his lessons so be prepared to move at warp speed towards the end of the semester. He has many explosive and exciting demonstrations. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Ed is awesome. Lots of work but he is very helpful if you need to see him at office hour. I would take more classes with him. In my opinion is very clear in his lectures, pretty quick so you need to keep up. Also, he likes to blow stuff up! Bonus!
Ed is a great guy. He is very passionate about chemistry and loves to blow stuff up as demos. He tries to connect lessons to real world examples and he is easy to persuade to get more days to turn in your labs/hw.
Dr. Ong is a very smart guy and his demonstrations are great. However he does tend to move a bit fast and expects you to already know a lot of stuff prior. Be prepared to teach yourself a lot out of the book.
Ed tends to complicate things more than he should. He writes very fast on the board and talks while doing it so it can be hard to keep up. I received an A in his class, but i'm not sure i learned as much as i would have liked. Overall Ed teaches pretty well.
I think he is an execellant teacher and yes, he does go quite fast in writing on the board. He does give time for you to copy all the board notes down so no complaints about his lecture note style. I think he is very clear on the subject and knows what he is talking about. I did enjoy his class and look forward to next chemistry class with him.
Excellent Teacher, he can be confusing at times. He does go fast while lecturing & writing notes on the board. If you ask to slow down he will & he gives you time to copy everything down. Yes, his test can be hard but if you study then it can be easy. He does have corny jokes but I enjoyed. I recommend taking his class & I look forward to next clas
Ed is a master of his subject, he can be a little intimidating though because he knows so much. Extremely nice guy and good teacher but goes VERY fast. You better study on your free time and slackers shouldn't take this class.
This guy is the BEST!!! I loved his class and he was a very fun teacher to have. Ed is very laid back and performs a ton of experiments in class. And I can't leave out the fact that he tells hilarious stories. Do whatever it takes to take his class over Elstein. You'll have fun and learn much more! A+++
Ed is the best chm professor you will ever have in PC. He's laid back and funny professor. His stories are great. They are just years of experiences. and yes, he loves blowing up stuffs.Tests can be tough if you didn't study. so study well! I recommend his class.Hope you have a great semester with a great professor!
Excellent Teacher, I recommend him. He is clear on his lectures and lab. He is tough but if you study and take good notes, no problem. I had fun in Chm 151 and Chm 152. Too bad he doesn't teach organic.
Eddie is the best chm professor you will ever have in your entire life! He sure does love blowing up stuff and goes fast on lecture. Reading before class would help. he's pretty legit. Loved his class!! take him at any cost!!
Don't get me wrong-- Ed's class is HARD-- but his classes are just AWESOME. He does demos to demonstrate concepts and trains you for real-life lab work. you will walk out knowing your stuff and sad that Ed doesn't teach ochem :) TAKE HIM AT ANY COST!
If he would spend more time teaching and less time entertaining and talking about himself He could probably be a good instructor. He does not do much teaching he talks and writes on the board and then asks "can you do that?" If you have a class right after his plan on being late he is very inconsiderate about time. Does not answer questions much.
Ed is amazing at what he teaches, you will not fail his class if you study his notes and do the homework, seriously his notes are exactly like the test( Of course the test is harder due to the stress and time, but it is the same concept). Great guy, the best Chemistry teacher, the best there is:)
If you want to learn chemistry, Ed is a must! He has a passion for the material and it shows in the class room. Be prepared to work your butt off! Your hands will cramp during lecture, but you will have good time during it. Wish you taught 0-Chem Ed!
ed is truly amazing. i had him for both semesters of gen chem and he is always funny, easy to understand and willing to answer questions. his humor is a little dark, but that just makes the class even more enjoyable, because you can relate to him. his tests are not easy, but he will always give you the tools you need to do well (take notes!!)
Really smart man. Dont know why he's at PC but glad that he is
His class fills up fast and for a good reason! He is exellent at teaching and is clearly passionate about chemistry. He has tons of experience and his personality makes learning chemistry easy. His great notes are prefect for studying for his tests. If you understand the notes the tests are a breeze! I'm sad to leave PC and especially his class.
Class is pretty easy. There are 4 time consuming and tedious lab write ups but the tests are pretty simple. The library has extra old copies of his tests. The tests are basically just simple algebra. You remember the formula, plug in the variables and you have your answer. Does cover a lot of material, labs feel like forever but are pretty fun
Ed is a really good teacher. He loves what he does and he's willing to do whatever to help a student. If you havent taken a chemistry class before this (high school not included) I don't recommend this class. It should have been easy, but I was just not prepared. You MUST study!
Took for 151 and 152. Ed is fantastic, cheesy, but not easy. You have to study in his class to be successful. He moves very quickly and occasionally needs to be told to slow down or explain more, but he is more than happy to. Take good notes and study them, the homework from the books are a waste of time and wont help for the test.
The class is spent scribbling down his notes and occasionally he stops to give some off the wall comparisons that waste time when he should just explain it. He doesn't give quizzes or homework, which means you have to guess what will be on the next exam based on a mess of notes. People like his class because they don't like homework, that's stupid.
I took him for CHM 150 and CHM 152. He is a great teacher and is very passionate about chemistry. He is very helpful and wants to see us succeed. Love his many exciting demos and stories that helps you relate to the concepts. His tests can be hard so take good notes, study them and practice with him in lecture. I wish he would teach O-Chem.
He is very good guy. I love his classes.
All you have to do is study his notes and your good the tests are the same as notes. And there is no homework or quizes and he gives extra credit
I hate chemistry, but I love Ed's class. He's very comical, extremely knowledgeable about chemistry, and really does want to see his students succeed. If you study your notes and practice with him you should be fine. Doesn't collect the homework so the book is kind of useless (for a summer session, at least.) Gonna miss him and his class.
Study all his notes, don't miss any classes and if you do copy notes asap, and get a seat up close because he tends to write and talk fast.
I took CHM 151 and 152 with him 5 years ago. He was funny and related how chemistry applied to everyday life and potential job situations. I especially like his demos. Study hard to pass his exams. Take good notes and keep them. I am still using them at my job. The safety rules that he taught in lab kept me out of trouble a couple of times.
He is very helpful instructor . I passed CHM 151 and CHM 152 with him.
Funny and easy going. Always willing to answer questions! Very excited towards chemistry.
Ed is a great teacher. He is very helpful. Try not to miss any of his classes because the notes he gives out are the ones that will show on the test. His test are hard so better study a week a head. He is fair with grading and will give out extra credit.
Ed is very helpful and loves to teach. He does go fast in his lecture and be ready to take a lot of notes. His notes are very important because they will help you with his tests. Make sure you know how to do the word problems and study a week before. You will need to memorize many equations so be ready for that.
This is the worst class I have ever taken. Ed spends more time talking about his life than teaching the class. He is hardly ever in his office to answer questions. He scribbles on the board for the last twenty minutes of class and does a horrible job explaining how to do the problems. I do not recommend his class to anyone.
Ed spends more time talking about his life than teaching chemistry.I would not recommend taking him. He ends up playing with the grades in the end because he does a horrible job teaching the class. One last thing, good luck getting a hold of him for exra help.
I took CHM 150 and 152 with him. Ed is awesome! I learn something new everyday. I love having him as an instructor. He is very enthusiastic and knowledgeable. I enjoy his stories because they make the class more real to me. You have to work hard to pass his tests. I took good notes and aced them, YAY! I recommend taking classes with him.
I took chemistry 152 with edd. edd spend most of class time talking about his life rather than teaching the chemistry, and he doesn't cover all the subjects but he expects you to know for the exam. there are much better chemistry teachers out there whose available to help you. I don't recommend taking class with him.
edd, was funny, but not chemist I re-grate i took this class with him, no quizzes, no homework, no help at all. if you want learn chemistry dot take class with him, you will struggle when you take organic. thats what happened to me. I don't recommend taking class with him.
The worst chemistry class I've ever took. ed was easy going and funny! sure, he likes to tell story, never cares if you need help. its hard to get hold of him. I don't recommend ED.
Ed spent half of the semester teaching chm 151 which he failed to finish in previous semester, and he tries to rush through 152. he does horrible job teaching the class thats why he ends up playing with your grades at the end. i don't recommend taking class with him.
I found the class interesting. Ed was dynamic and showed how the topics related to each other. He drilled us on calculations a lot in class. I found that very helpful. He was always willing to answer my questions during his office hours after class. Take good notes, his exams are tough.
I had a BLAST in Dr. Ong's class. I enjoyed learning from him. Also, I loved the exciting demos. I even have videos of some. He gave lots of notes. He was always willing to help and is approachable. You have to show him that you had worked and tried first though. Study at least one week ahead. His tests can be hard.
honestly he need more time to now his student better, he doesn't care if you understood or not he just spend the time righting, avoid him
Best teacher ever. This class is HARD. You will definitely earn your grade. His lectures are intense and goes deeper in the material than the textbook. In fact, the book was only used for homework problems and reference charts. The exams come straight from his lecture notes. If you want to learn Chemistry take Ed, but it is NOT easy.
Ed is very funny, he loves to write lots good luck on reading his hand writing, if you love chemistry avoid him.
I just finished both 150 and 152 classes with Ed. Best classes I have ever taken and I enjoyed it. It was 12 intense weeks nonstop. Take good notes to pass his class, my notebook has grown several inches thick. The exams can be tough, so study hard. He was very helpful and patient. If you want to learn chemistry deeply, take his classes.
Ed is funny af and his class is really cool. Just take notes and go to class everyday. You gotta study for the exams too and when theres is extra credit available do it! Pretty hard class if you don't study which i lacked but still passed you cant slack it to much here.
He will do plenty of demos. So many that we fell behind. The second half of the semester we had to play catch up. We went over so many topics that nothing sunk in. After week 3-4, I learned very little. You will need to study a lot out of class if you want an A or B. He does give extra credit, but only because so many people do bad on his tests.
The material covered is vast, but his lectures are thorough and his handouts are concise. Tests are hard, but you can get an A if you attend class, take notes, study before the tests, and do the extra credit. Be prepared to take a lot of notes...
I took chemistry 151 and 152 with dr Ed as well as the labs and got A on all . his class is fun and it ends really quickly .I think he is the best professor I had in PC . The tests are long and you have to memorize lots of formulas but u learn real chemistry.. if he teaches organic chem , i would definitely take again .
Thank goodness I only had him for lab and not his lecture and lab. His stories are not necessarily related to the material. Loves to hear himself talk and is was too flamboyant at all times. Had to beg him for help on a couple of occasions and was never clear enough.
Ed is an awesome instructor and is fair when it comes to grading. It was an intense class since it was a five week summer course, but we got through it. He is willing to help as long as you're trying and are not a lazy student. I highly recommend him for the reason that there's not many instructors like him today anymore and he has great stories!
Ed thinks he's funny, he'll often repeat his same boring stories for the sake of hearing his own voice. He gets off topic and rarely actually teaches chemistry. If Chemistry is important to your major DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!!!
This is the worst instructor I have ever had. He tells anecdotes and disparages past students. He doesn't bother to teach the content. If you actually want to learn this, DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. He is possibly the easiest grader EVER though. So if he can't be good, he can at least give easy As.
He does not explain the materials in a well organized way. He expects you to remember everything! Doesn't allow any notes on tests, The lectures do not go together with the homework. It was unclear what had to be studied for the test. he said to use the HW as Study guide but HW was all over the place. Would ramble on about himself half the class.
His class was really easy. He practically tells you everything you need to know for the tests, and gives more than enough packets to help you with the class, with that being said he doesn't do the best job teaching the packets, so you might have to learn it by yourself. Tests long! Some test questions are a lot harder than practice problems.
Rushed the last 2 weeks as he printed over 10 packets (not kidding) for us to read rather than the usual white board lecture. He didn't allow notes although there was quite a lot of stuff to remember at the end that was vaguely explained. Wasted time with lame jokes preventing more material to be covered. Lectures often felt unorganized.
Got an A in his class but I had to have the tutor and youtube explain everything to me. He rambles on endlessly with ridiculous stories. He floods the students with information not pertinent for the class. He shows up late to lecture and lab. His lab recitations run over time so you are constantly rushing to finish your lab. He is unorganized.
The 5 week summer class was brutal. Be prepared to memorize most of the equations and know your conversions. Lectures are 3 hours long. Study and do ALL of the extra credit offered or you won't pass! He gives you a lot of packets with 2 examples for each topic so use those to study.
He's a good teacher but he's really hard. You have to be really smart at chemistry to pass his class and take all the knowledge that you got from CHM 130 and memorize them like a machine. He gives 1 hr on the test and they are super hard, you will not even finish the test. No matter how much I practiced and studied his tests are insanely difficult.
If you don't pass the first two exams in his class you're screwed. His exams are timed for only 1 hour for 24 questions or so and they are super hard. The professor expects you to know everything about the course when you begin. The lectures are super heavy and with too much information. Miss one day you're screwed for the rest of the semester.
To be honest this is a tough class and I recommend taking it at South Mountain Community College with Scarbourgh ot mactosh. They teach it a better way and actually want you to pass their classes. Ed teaches this class like a 300 level ASU class for biochem majors, why stress yourself out?
Was an easy summer class, he was lenient on grading and the workload was reasonable. He shows up late every day, tells dumb jokes, tends to ramble, and tends to be up your butt during lab about what it is you're doing. However, the course was by no means a difficult summer class. Personally, I think his cheesy personality is worth the "easier A"
By far, Ed Ong is the best teacher I've ever had in a community college. He teaches his class with passion and does not treat students like people who's just trying to get an easy pass. He goes into depth with his lectures. Beware, if you just wanna pass and don't care about learning do not take this class!! He uses calculus! to explain concepts!
He is really funny, and really wants to succeed. He is very passionate about the material so he will get off topic sometimes. I took this class in the summer and I'm so glad he was my professor.
Best class I've taken at PC so far. Very organized professor who provides lots of examples on classwork and answers questions seriously. If you want to learn the material, take this class!! As long as you show up and practice throughout the term, you will leave this class with an A and knowledge on the subject matter. Would take again... for FUN!
In order to pass this class you must attend class everyday, take really good notes, and study with classmates. Exams are tough! His exams are similar to the problems he writes on the board. if you takes good notes you should be fine. Class is kinda hard but he also gives a lot of extra credit to help you pass the class.
Professor Ong is great and really knowledgeable. I got an A in this class because he clearly explains things and is always really helpful.
Ed spent so much class time repeating stories and trying to scare us about the difficulty of future chemistry courses, that we were months behind on material for the final. So he just threw a bunch of handouts at us to learn the new material on our own like a week before the final. I wouldnt take another class with him. Nice guy though.
Ong is really nice and helps you out if you need anything. He also gives out a lot of extra credit, which is great!! Don't miss assignments, even if you aren't sure if the solutions are correct, just turn it in.
He was a great professor. He gave a lot of example of each topic to make sure you really understand. I took this class in summer so it was tough but he gave us some extra credits.
Dr. Ong was a great professor he goes step by step and offers extra credit, if you've taken chemistry in the past it shouldn't be hard I got a B and missed a week of class. ALSO pay attention he gave away a few questions for upcoming tests.
Didn't really use the textbook so I'd say save your money and check it out at the library if you really need it. Ed is nice and wants you to learn so he's great for that. He is really proud that he gives so many handouts out for some reason? I'd rather he taught the material than just give a handout.
Dr. Ong is so funny & makes you want to be in class. He uses silly stories & sounds to help you remember critical concepts. He loves his job! Just because it's Lab doesn't mean he'll use every minute of class to either lecture and/or experiment. But he utilizes time well & I learned more in his mini-lectures before lab than in actual lecture class!
Ed was a really great teacher, but his lectures can be repetitive and long. He only gives 3 tests and the final, but he drops the lowest test score. He gives out extra credit randomly. TAKE HIS LAB ALSO! It's helpful to have the same teacher so you go over the same stuff.
Professor Ong is great, he cares about students and is very accessible if you have questions. I don't recommend the very very short summer semester, too much. Tests are on lectures and handouts, the book is secondary. He does cool demonstrations.
Okay heres the thing Dr. Ong had no idea how to explain things he gives out lab reports goes over it once and never talks about it again. He tells you what to do in lab in a quick review and expects you to get everything down without needing his help anymore plus he DOESNT answer emails .
He is a great teacher. You must go to class in order to know what is going on since he is old style and doesn't really use canvas. He cares a lot about his students and will go out of his way to make sure you pass, of course if he saw you trying all semester. During Covid-19 he did great being understandable and making things easy.
Dr. Ong is the best chemistry instructor I have ever had!!! His lectures make chemistry relatable to our day to day life. He is funny, caring, and does what he can to insure his students understand each lesson. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND HIM!!!
Dr. Ong is amazing, one of the best I have ever experienced. He cares about his students and loves what he does. He goes above and beyond to make sure you understand. It saddens me that he wont be an option as my instructor for organic chem.
Dr. Ong is an amazing professor you will learn about chemistry if you take him, his notes are a great source for a study guide and he really cares if you understand the subject. He brings his A game to every class and he wants every student to do well, ask questions and he will guide you in the right direction.
BEST CHEMISTRY PROFESSOR! Seriously, the best one youll find. He cares about his students and loves what he does. He makes chemistry look so easy and hes very great at explaining it. I wish I could take all my chemistry classes with him. Also, his jokes are pretty funny
He doesnt know what hes doing. He keep talking about his life story. When the exam come never give you a review or any type of practice. He has only 3 exam and the final. He will drops of the lowest grade you have on the 3 exam. If you plan to learn chemistry by yourself go head and take him. NO HOMEWORK, NO QUIZZES. I learned nothing from him.
I dont recommend this teacher to anyone!
Ready to learn by yourself go for it. (:
Dr. Ong is one of the best professors hands down! He makes class interesting and gives 24 hours to complete exams. Waited an extra semester just so I could have him for chem 151 and 152.
He's a good professor and person. He gives a plethora of example problems, and he works through them with the class. He also gives real life scenarios to help apply the concepts.
Great Lectures and attitude. One of my favorite Professors ever!
Show up to every single class bc he randomly gives answers to the tests. I failed the 1st exam and ended with an A. He's very easy with grading and really a sweet guy. Highly recommend and I would definitely take the class again. He makes chemistry look so simple. Just stay up the night before the exam and memorize the PDFs and youll be good.
I took 151 with Ed for the first summer session dn I am now in 152 for the second summer session. Each class is 5 weeks long when, in a regular semester, it is 12 weeks long. These classes are challenging, there is no denying it, but as Ed says, he is on the student's side. He is passionate about his work.
Memorize the PDF's before the exams and you will pass. Gives partial points even if you did not get the answer right. Goes over everything during lecture and you actually learn. Lots of material he covers but great place to start with chemistry. I would definitely take him again. Zero homework assignments but you rely on your exam grades.
He gives a good feedback about what you get wrong
Great profesor has a unique humor! I found him funny! Intelligent and loves chemistry very descriptive apply what we learn with real life examples to better ones understanding. People may say he strays off topic yet he does it while applying examples from what is learned. Hard class. study and ask when you need help to understand
Pretty good teacher, definitely knows his stuff. Lab is pretty easy -- he doesn't want to do extra work and it pays off as a student. However, his personality is.... interesting. Continuously cracked jokes about how he was gonna get cancelled, followed by a story or joke that would make HR cringe. Micromanages your labwork
My fave professor ever. I took an online CHM-151 course prior to the 5 week course with Ed and failed it. Ed gave 50 points for participation, 50 points for problem sets (which he gave to us if we took the final), and ten points extra credit. He also curved every test adding 5/10 points. I got a B first test, and D's on the last two and got a B.
I took this class during the summer, so it was a 5-week course. I took the lecture online with another teacher. His lab was very fun and interactive. I enjoyed it very much. He is a great teacher who knows the topic. He let us work in groups, which is a PLUS. We didn't have Lab exams, just the Lab reports. He grades very well, not harshly at all.
goat- take 152 with him. he's scary but funny
