she's a pretty good teacher. you just have to study for all the quizzes and tests.. and u'll be fine!
Very good teacher! Willing to explain and make the class fun. Taking notes is very important. You really don't need the book. She explains everything.
She si very specific and won't let you borrow a pencil if you forget one for a test. All quizzes are practical application not definitions. Scantron tests. Must be there for notes and examples to be able to do the test. Don't need book.
teacher is nice to some people and has attitude to others, really anal, she's usually five minutes late to class but gets upset if you are. Grades really really hard in homework.
She is so hard! She is do anal with homework, down to where you put your name. Are we still in high school or what? She goes through material quickly and expects everyone to be on the same learning level. Gets frustrated easily.
unless you're really great at math and can teach yourself from the book i'd advise against this teach. she actually a good person but her explainations are hard to understand sometimes.
Im taking the TV course. I thought it would be easy. But it looks like Ill actually have to study. Whats the logic in that?
Not a very easy TV class. She gave us a study sheet and that was all we could us on the tests. I never did all the reading and got C's on all the tests. Your final grade is usually high because she factors in all the F's. So I ended up with a B. Not bad
THE WORST teacher I have ever had.Its almost as if this teacher gets off on confusing her students. I have never met a student who has taken her and has something good to say about her. The whole class is based on her lecture. Her test is all on that. Its all about HER. Never missing a single class will bring you up a whole letter grade though.
If I do the work, I expect a paycheck. The video classs worked into my schedule; the grading sucked. Scantron plus essay. Dr. Rivere was extremley lacked in posting grades due to last minute test takers. Grading on a curve is nice, however, I didn't know that I could graduate until it was too late. Now my diploma is dated 12/05 instead of 06/05.
i really liked her... i learned alot in her class and found her very helpful... as long as u take good notes n look over them a lil....
Hard final
Had to retake Pysch because I failed it the first time with Capuano-Brewer. Took it with Rivere and I wish I had taken it the first time with her. It was a breeze. She even gave us extra credit for perfect attendence.
just had a 3 page essay and 40 m.c. question for final. Hard hard hard Too much info to know for such a short time. Expected you to know more than she teaches and to learn what she doesn't.Unclear in her instructions of essay questions. Nice lady but will not take another course with her.
DO NOT take an online class with this professor! She will not return your emails if you have questions (eventhough it's the only way of communicating with her). Horrilble grader and rude! This is the worst professor I have ever had.
She grades extremely hard. Every homework assignment is work like 20 or so pts and it's not uncommon to get a 4.5!! She grades down to every correct decimal etc. It's exhausting, plus she isn't helpful at all! Her pronunciation of words was very hard to understand too.
took the TV/video class....was hard. 50 multiple choice questions and essay, hard grader. Normally do good on tests, not these ones though. Practical application, no definitions or things directly out of the book. HAVE to have a IN DEPT knowledge of material. Seemed strict and type A.
AVOID HER AT ALL COSTS, RUDE. HER WAY OR NO WAY. WORST I HAVE HAD AT VC.
This teacher sucks the fun out of going to college. Does not gave extra credit for perfect attendance, like some say she does. Does not return emails in internet/TV classes. Take Robinson.
Knowledgeable, enthusiastic, well-prepared, friendly.
Took my first psychology class w/her last spring, & now it's my major. Very interesting lectures - relates materials to life. I learned a lot about myself. If you take good notes in class, you will do well in tests. I plan to take more classes from her. Excellent teacher!
I dropped a class & was going to loss financial aid, but found Rivere's class which started half-way into the semester. I'm glad I found this class 'cuz I actually enjoyed it & learned a lot. She's very organized & not a flake-o like other psych. teachers at VC. I highly recomend her. She knows her stuff and makes the class interesting.
I took the 9 week online section. A lot of people complain about her but its really not all that bad. You have to use good time management skills but the work is not really hard just time consuming. She doesnt really answer emails but she lays out everything in the orientation so there really isnt much left to question. If you do the work easy A.
Excellent teacher. Took this class before with Robinson...a real bore! Rivere rocks!! I learned a lot about myself because she focuses on self-understanding. Got me turned on to psychology, I'm taking 2 more psychology classes this semester.
I have taken many online classes before but this is the first one where I can really say I learned the most. Activities are very interesting, and makes you look into your own development. No midterm or final and the chapter quizzes have study lists to help you focus & do well. Fair grader. HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PROF!
I was reluctant to take her class because of comments I read on this website, but it was the only class that fit my schedule. I think websites like this attract "squeaky wheels". I found Rivere's class interesting, well organized and workload was reasonable. She is a fair grader-I got an A in the class & plan on taking another class from her again.
EXCELLENT TEACHER! Helpful and interested in student success. Wrote a very supportive letter of recommendation for me, and encouraged me to continue to 4-yr. college...where I am now! I could not have done it without Dr. Rivere's help. THANK YOU Dr. Rivere!!!
I took her online class reluctantly, but it was a pre-requisite for the RN program and needed to be done. If your vocabulary isn't at a Bachelor Degree level, you'll definately struggle a little with comprehending her assignments. Overall, once you get into the swing of things, it's pretty easy. She grades pretty hard, but I've learned a lot.
I just enrolled in 3rd class w/this prof. She is well organized and helpful and knows her subject extremely well. Study guide for tests are VERY helpful. Gives short quizzes & no final exam - which helped since it was a short session which was over fast! She goes out of her way to help students. I highly recomend her! The best at VC!
I only enrolled in this class because it is a prerequisite for the RN Program. I'm gladd i had to take it. Not only was the course material interesting and the exercises pretty fun, Dr. Rivere was very helpful and answered questions immediately.
If you want a teacher who will get you turned on to psychology...you MUST take Dr. Rivere's class. I took Dev. Psy. w/her because it was a requirement, but now I will take more classes from her as electives. She really makes learning fun. She gets you involved and you will learn a lot about yourself in the process. I highly recommend her!
Helpful! Easy online class. I didn't really ever read and I got a good grade in the class. Tests are a little hard but exercises are were you can make it up
This teacher is horrible! Everytime I would ask for help I never got it. She is extremely hard -headed, rude, and very hard grader. She has an attitude like she is superior over all others just because she has her doctrine degree, and apparently does not like helping her students out. Its strange how she is even a teacher, because the last thing
This is the worst teacher I have ever experienced. Pompous and difficult. This would be ok if she actually helped you but she tends to get lost within herself and finds a way to make you feel stupid or that you've done something wrong. Difficult grader. If you have any interest in psych, take someone else. She ruined my interest.
She is rude. She will not answer questions. She will not give correct answers for questions you missed (on the non multiple choice). She grades hard (taking points off for everything. Part of the grade is answering very personal questions and finding others to do the same. If you want an A be prepared to work hard AND do extra credit discussions.
I took statistics twice w/another prof. & dropped. Took it w/Dr. Rivere & FINALLY, everything made sense. She's good at explaining difficult concepts. Relates statistics to everyday situations which makes it easier to understand. Grades on a curve & is fair. I recommend her highly, esp. if you're not good in math. Tests have no computations.
If you can avoid taking Dr. Rivere, I highly recommend it. I took an online class with her and found her class interesting and challenging. However, when it comes to communicating with her students, she gives rude replies and is not helpful at all.
I have taken 2 online classes with Dr. Rivere & highly recommend her. Class is well-organized. Weekly quiz and exercise; no mid-term & finals! She gives a study guide for the quiz, so you know what to study. Exercises are practical, you can't go wrong. It's a full semester class given in 9 weeks and weekly assignments made it easy to keep up.
Took my first psychology class with this teacher & decided to major in it. Dr. Rivere made the class very interesting...more interesting than the book! I highly recommend her.
This teacher really makes the class interesting. Teaches the subject so it makes sense in real life...not all theory. Tests are fair - questions are practical. Learned a lot in this class. I highly recommend Ms. Rivere.
9 week on-line class. Mandatory Orientation. Required to read two chapters a week and do a multiple choice quiz for each. Excercise also required. No mid term, no final. Option for extra credit. Very lenient grading scale.
Awesome instructor. Very helpful to students. Use her Study Lists and you will do well in the quizes. No midterm or final. Chapter quizes are helpful. You'll know how you're doing one chapter at a time. Extra credit discussions are helpful! Best class I've had!
Good class, excellent teacher. Very organized & very clear expectations...absolutely not a wishy washy teacher like others I've had. If you read her syllabus (it's long!) you'll know exactly what to do to get a good grade. Great learning experience! I will take another class from her.
Not only the rudest teached I have ever encountered but also one of the rudest people I had to deal with. She has a superiority complex and tries to manipulate students into contacting the dean on her behalf so she can get more money. Embarrassment to the teaching world!
Her Study Guides are VERY helpful - much better than the Study Guide that comes with the book. Her expectations are very clear. Very knowledgable. You know exactly what to do, so you can learn the important stuff and do well in tests. She allows for extra credits so you can learn more, and improve your grade. I highly recomend this teacher.
As a new student,I am the lowest priority for registration and all the classes I need were already full. Dr. Rivere tried her best to add me to the class. I read comments that she is rude. THIS IS NOT TRUE. I found her very easy to approach. I will take more classes from this teacher. If you read the book, you will do well in the tests.
INTERESTING CLASS, I REALLY ENJOYED THE DISCUSSIONS. I TOOK HER WEB-BASED CLASS..CONVIENT BUT YOU CAN EASILY GET SIDE-TRACKED. SHE HAS A ZERO MAKE-UP POLICY, SHE WILL NOT BUDGE ON THIS!!! TRUST ME, I TRIED... SHE DIDNT EVEN WANT TO HEAR ME OUT; SHE CAN BE KIND-A COLD. PERHAPS BECAUSE ITS A WEB CLASS, SHE DOESNT REMMEMBER THAT WERE ACTUAL PEOPLE.
Dr. Rivere's class was very interesting and I learned a lot, however be prepared to work very hard. Her study guides are not very clear at all and her exams require you to spend hours re-reading the chapters to know every detail. You get extra credit opportunities, but grades really hard on them. Great class, but it took over my life!
Very interesting class but A LOT of work. Not easy at all. I got an A but because I devoted every minute to her class. She gives extra credit but grades extremely hard on them. Very nit picky. Tests were almost impossible...You MUST read the chapters in depth and pay attention to what you are learning. She was not great at responding to emails.
Statistics is tough enough without a professor like this, had to transfer out because IMO she tried to sabotage me. No real help at all. When I had a death in the family & asked to make up missed work, had to bring a copy of death cert. & was then told NO! Unbelievable. Probably the worst teacher I?ve had in my life (in my 50s? & graduating soon).
This was a web course. the only thing we did was quizzes for each chapter no papers no midterm no final. She is rude but it is impossible to fail this class well if you do good on quizzes which I dnt see why not study guides are helpful and tell u exactly wats on quiz.
I agree with the rest here - I took the online course and, if you read the chapter and followed the study guide, you will get an A. BUT, just know that you will probably miss at least one question per quiz. And don't bother to make your case to her in email about how the answer you picked is also correct. She is extremely rigid!
Anytime I had a question the professor would respond with, read the syllabus. After I would read it again, and still need a deeper understanding, she was not helpful. I asked for her office hours and she wouldn?t meet me, just a phone conversation. I?ve never had such a difficult professor in my life. And I just earned my two year degree. Don?t tak
Excellent teacher; course materials very helpful, esp. Study Lists. Expectations are clear, so you are never in the dark. I missed a quiz but she allowed make-up when I showed her proof of my emergency. I guess, cuz its an online class, she wants to make sure we don't procrastinate. She said this in the syllabus-so we know what to expect.
Best teacher I've had at VC. Her enthusiasm for the subject really turned me on to psychology. I have decided to major in psychology. I look fwd. to more classes w/her, esp. when I'm ready to take statistics!
Took her for summer online class. Required a lot of reading. Make sure to allocate some time for it. Tests are based on each chapter-no midterm or final; also provides study guides. Gives extra credit (the discussions). Read the syllabus before emailing her a question. Passed with an A. Taking her again (online) for PSY V05.
Excellent teacher. Communicates well and has clear expectations. Fair grader. Lectures are very interesting and relates psychology to everyday life. I really learned a lot about myself in this class. Will take another class from her again.
This teacher organized the course so it was easy to manage. She had weekly quizes so I did not procastinate. Extra credit discussions. Good communicator. Responds to emails promptly. I will do more classes online, hopefully with this teacher too, but I see that she only teaches one other class online. Wish she had more. I recommend her.
Great teacher! Learned a lot from this class. Lots of reading (first textbook I have read front to back) but the text is great and the authors are really good at explaining things and making them interesting. Quiz every week but no midterm or final. I would definitely take another one of her classes.
Took class as prereq. for Nursing. Well organized. Grading standards are fair & clearly explained in syllabus. Weekly quizzes kept me from getting behind. 2 lowest scores are dropped, so there's a little bit of slack. Extra credit discussions helped me get an A. I found this class to be very engaging. Focused on life application-good for nurses!
Excellent course, very well organized and easy to follow. Teacher very supportive and helpful. Highly recommended, esp. if this is not your major because of broad perspective.
First psychology class I have taken ... & it won't be the last. Dr. Rivere made this class so interesting that I want to learn more - will take another class from her next semester. She guides you through each chapter and helps you if you're stumped. Her passion for the subject really rubs off on her students.
I just finished taking a 2nd course from Dr. Rivere. I wish she teaches other courses. She is a very effective teacher and makes the study of psychology very interesting. I understand she teaches Statistics, but I don't see her in the schedule. I hope she teaches it before I graduate.
Difficult teacher. Tests more by hanging on her every word rather than the text....Hard to ace her tests, it's almost like she enjoys marking things wrong. I will avoid any class with her in the future.
TEACHES VERY FAST AND NEVER HAVE TIME TO TAKE DOWN THE NOTES SHE DISPLAYS IN HER CLASS. SHE GIVES YOU A STUDY GUIDE AND EXPECTS YOU TO LEARN ON YOUR OWN RATHER THAN HELPING YOU OUT IN DETAIL.
Really clear about what she needs from you, also she gives you the syllabus that is your bible for the semester. Her weekly quizzes are extremely difficult tho and not straightforward. She gives you way to much to read and only 15 questions per quiz and hardly any of them are questions your studied for. This class is HARD!!
If you attend class you'll be fine because her quizzes are based more on the examples she gives you. She emphasizes on life situations not definitions. On final she gives you 6 questions an you can write on it an use it for final. I thought she was very good teacher and would definitely recommend her classes. Easy to approach if you have questions.
I just finished a class w/Dr.Rivere & didn't want the semester to end. I learned so much from her class. She relates the subject to life situations. The tests reflect what we learned in class. Grades fairly. Would definitely take another class from her.
This teacher really enjoys teaching and her excitement about psychology is catching! This is the first psychology class I have taken and it won't be the last. I decided to make it my major. Thank you dr. rivere for opening my eyes to the science of behavior.
Requirements are clearly explained in syllabus and she gives quiz tips and study lists which are very helpful. No midterm or final but gives frequent quizzes, to make sure we keep up with our studies. Lectures are very interesting and she likes to tell stories to give examples of what she is teaching. Highly recommend this teacher.
By far the best teacher I've had. Easy to approach if your have questions. Kept my interest in subject. I definitely will take more psychology classes.
Just finished a 6-week summer session with this teacher. At first I was reluctant, afraid I might be overhwhelmed by the short time period. Not a problem. Professor is very well organized and balanced the work load. She also gave very helpful guidance to help us do well in the tests. She is very supportive of students and willing to help.
Her enthusiasm for the subject makes learning fun! Focuses on life application; for a class in psychology, this makes the subject truly relevant. She won't bog you down with memorizing definitions. If you take good notes in class, you will ace her tests! I highly recommend this teacher.
I hate to give a bad report about teachers, but this teacher was very disorganized at all times and did NOT explain the material at all. I've had some tough teachers, but she is by far the toughest. I'll work as hard as I have to to get a good grade, but with her as a teacher, it is just very difficult to understand and grasp the material.
If you're scared of statistics, you must take this teacher. She will put you at ease. Explains the subject in an easy to understand way. She will walk you through the worksheets in class & will get you involved. Emphasizes concept and real life use of statistics, instead of computations. Tests do not require computations.
I find her to be very rude and self centered her tests are really tough she teaches at a University Level which makes the class even more difficult especially if you have other classes you are currently taking, you basically have to devote all your time to her class in order to pass my advice wait for Robert Pugh to teach this class or take adlman!
Excellent teacher for a difficult statistics class. I read the book & I'm lost. I attend her class and she makes everything clear & easy to follow. Her worksheets are very helpful. Be sure to buy book with Aplia for extra credit. The practice problems help & the extra credit points really make a difference! Highly recommend this teacher.
I took this class as a junior in high school, & I'm glad I did! Learning about psychology helped me decide this will be my major when I apply to colleges next year. Dr. Rivere showed how psychology relates to many aspects of life such as: learning, motivation, social relationships, career choice, etc. I look forward to majoring in psychology.
As a challenging class due to the short summer school session and material, it seemed like she was more interested in the students "learning lessons on how to follow instructions." She said to learn what the syllabus said and then threw syllabus questions into the "Chapter 1 Quiz." Her responses to my emails for help or clarity were condescending.
I really wish i would of taken this class on campus instead i probably would of learned the material a lot better instead of taking it online. She is kinda strict but at least what made me like the class is that the letter grading is curved a 60% in the class is a C and the extra credit if you do all of it really helps your grade out a lot.
Took statistics w/ this teacher and really learned it this time. Dropped MathStat b4. Does not bog you down with computations. We used a computer program. Focuses on what the computations mean, & how to apply statistics to everyday life situations. She grades on a curve ... which helped me learn statistics too! I highly recommend this teacher.
I took Dr. Rivere for V01 for a full semester and v05 for a 6 week class. I did not find her tests hard, as long as you read and understand the material and listened to her lectures; and got an A in both. She is enthusiastic about psychology and it's nice to see a teacher love what she does. If I take statistics I will take it with her.
Excellent teacher who really knows her stuff. Lectures are very interesting and so true to life. Learned so much about myself in this class. Gives study list which helped me ace the class. Extra credit discussions were very informative -would have participated even if it was not for extra credit. Will definitely take another class from her.
I did not like this teacher at all. Even though I got an A in the class, I felt she was extremely unclear. She was rude when you asked questions and put you down. I've taken her before and she was not this bad. She seemed to dislike teaching stats and we felt that. Do NOT take her for stats.
Do not take her for stats. She's awful and kind of rude. Everyone in my class hated her.
I took Dr. Rivere before, liked her and figured I'd try her statistics course. I think she did not like teaching statistics because she was a whole different person. I will never take another class from her.
Super disappointed with this class. I could not stand professor Rivere. Never again.
Avoid Dr. Rivere like the plague. I barely passed this class. It's a hard class, do not make it harder with an awful professor.
If you want to learn how to use statistics instead of getting bogged down with tedious formulas and computations, I recommend this teacher. She uses worksheets in class to get you involved in the learning process. Very practical approach to a course which most students find difficult.
Online. This class was not what you'd expect. The book explains HOW to do statistics, but the quizzes are about WHY you do them. I had to play catch-up halfway through the semester. Get the Aplia Code Book, it will save your life. Drops two quizzes, and lots of extra credit. Overall recommend to those of us who struggle with math but need to pass.
If you want to learn psychology and how it applies to life, you must take this teacher. Learned a lot about myself in this class. Gives short quizzes, no big exams. Immediate feedback so you know how you are doing throughout the semester. I will take more classes from Dr. Rivere.
If you dread Statistics, you MUST take it from this teacher. She has a way of explaining which is easy to understand. The textbook is an easy read - but buy the one that comes with Aplia, so you can do extra credit. Chapter quizzes do not involve computations. I took this class twice but dropped it because I was failing - got an A this time!
Very well organized and sets clear guideline. Fair grading policy & allows extra credit. Relates course material to life situations, which makes what you learn relevant. Course requirements are reasonable, esp. for working people like me, who can only attend evening classes.
This is my first time rating a professor and it isn't because I am bored, this rating is to save you a complete headache, the material is poorly directed, the grading is completely off, after I attempted to contact her she didn't make an effort to help nor it seem like she cared. I have a 3.6 GPA, trust me I'm not lazy, choose a better professor.
I take fall 2016 online for human development. use the study guide, you have better understanding to prepare for the quiz. no final . give extra credit if you participate in discussion and pay attention for different discussion dateline. Give quick respond and feedback. my first time taking her class.
Excellent instructor. Very well organized and prompt to responds to student questions. Fair grader; bumped my final grade up when I missed the higher grade by a few points. Very flexible and understanding. Presented course material in a very interesting format that's relevant to life. Will take more classes from her & recommend her highly.
My first psychology course and it wont be the last. I attended each class I was not going to miss out on any of the eye-opening lectures given by Dr. Rivere. The information she gives in class is much better than reading the book. She relates chapter materials to everyday life. She gives us a study list to help prepare for test. Fair grader
I have taken this class before (not by this teacher) and in my experience, intro classes are supposed to be fairly easy. She is so incredibly unorganized online and presents wayyy more information than is necessary for this class. Be prepared to read lots and good luck interpreting what she wants. Very difficult class.
Awesome teacher! Really turned me on to psychology. Will take another class from her.
Best class I have taken so far. Learned so much from Dr. Riveres lectures they were better than the book! She really makes the class relevant to life. I learned so much about myself in this class. Will take more psychology classes and am considering it for my major.
She's a total sweetheart and all but you have to know how to explain things without sounding awkward. She grades heavy but at the same time it's based on a curve and thanks to the curve I have a B! I had to take this class at night and that's not my things so I probably would have done better if the class was offered in the morning/afternoon.
Excellent teacher. Clear guidelinesyllabus has everything you need to know about course. Reasonable requirements and gives immediate feedback. Chapter quizzes instead of mid-term & final exams make it easy to budget study time. Study Lists helpful 4 quiz. 2 lowest quiz scores are dropped & lots opportunities for extra credit. Awesome teacher!
Class is well organized with helpful study lists for each test. Lectures on everything thats in test, so if youre a good note-taker, youll ace the tests. Fair grader and requirements are reasonable, plus extra credits help!
Took my first online class with Dr. Rivere. Very organized and easy to navigate. Requirements are reasonable, did not feel overwhelmed, considering Statistics is not my forte. Gives adequate practice opportunities & extra credit. Very helpful - gave me a list of helpful tips when I emailed her. Excellent class ... great teacher!
I was reluctant at first to enroll in a short summer session, afraid I would be overloaded. This professor has reasonable requirements, very accessible & gives good feedback. Gave me suggestions on how to do well in Quizzes & got A in class. Extra credit also helped. Highly recommended & will take class with her again.
Excellent teacher. Helped me do well in class by providing study lists to use during quiz. I did not miss a single class because her lectures are very interesting better than the book! We need more teachers like her.
Very knowledgeable teacher and interesting lectures that relate to our daily life. No need to memorize anything. Allows use of Study List, very helpful for quizzes. No final exam, just chapter quizzes. Excellent class. She really makes learning FUN!
Mrs. Rivere is an outstanding professor. I just want to share, in light of the Thomas fire, she has handled everything with professionalism and kindness. You think the curve grading was amazing, check out her lectures! She uses anecdotes consistent with the material which makes it fun and way more understandable than a textbook ever could.
Very lively teacher who goes out of her way to help students. Be sure to ask for help if you need it. She is very understanding. She enjoys relating the content to real life scenarios in order to make it easier to understand.
Amazing teacher. Lectures very informative. Learned a lot. I work full time & have 2 young children & still managed to pull an A. Requirements are reasonable, but definitely not a give-away course. Easy to approach & very helpful. Will definitely take a class from her again!
This is my first semester in college & I'm so glad I took this class. Dr. Rivere helped me set my goals. She focused on having her students have a good insight on their behavior and motivation. She made me realize how psychology plays a part in our daily life - so I decided to major in psychology! Thank you Dr. Rivere for guiding me.
Am on the last week of a marathon 4-week session. At first, I was reluctant to enroll in this class, on account of the short duration and the expected fast pace. Thanks to Dr. Riveres easy to navigate course and reasonable expectations, I am actually finishing this course with an A (so far..). She organized the course with helpful tools.
4 week summer online class. Make sure u read the book or else u won't pass the online quizzes. Drops ur 2 lowest quizzes and adds those points as extra credit which is nice! Quizzes are proctered so no cheating allowed. If u do the work, there is no reason to not get an A. Offers Extra Credit (3 chances).
Rivere is not what you think of a professor. she is very rude in responding to her students, but very respectful when she is in need, wants, or asks for something of you. Its not even across the board. :( :( :( :( :(
I took an 8 week course in Statistics from Dr. Rivere. I highly recommend her. She explains complex statistics concepts in a way that's easy to understand. You MUST read her lectures, to help prepare for tests. Also, do Aplia exercises. It helped me get an A in the class.
Teaches psychology in a way that relates to what we do in our daily life. Requirements reasonable, esp for working students like me. Does not believe in memorizing, so we are allowed to use our Study List during test. I actually learned more this way, because I knew that what I studied would help me do well in the test.
My first class after being away from college for 6 years. Class was taught in the evening and I was afraid I would be too tired to concentrate after working all day. Wrong. Her lectures are so interesting and funny, she kept us all alert and focused. Way to go, Dr. Rivere!
Excellent teacher. Be sure to buy book with Aplia for extra credit.
Very supportive teacher. Provides study lists to help us study and prepare for tests and allows us to use it while taking test. Lectures are very interesting and covers everything in the test. Best class I have taken and has turned me on to psychology - I decided to switch my major to psychology!
Excellent class- did not miss a day. Looked forward to each lecture - which prepared me well for the tests! Professor is very well informed and encouraged discussions. I wish all teachers were like her.
Math has always been a tough subject for me and taking Statistics was last in my priority list, so I took it on my last semester before transferring. Dr. Rivere's Statistics class provided lots of opportunities to learn the concepts (practice tests, videos, etc.) but more importantly, extra credit in Aplia, which helped me get an A. Great teacher!
Tough class but lots of extra credit.
This was my second course taken with Dr. Rivere. She is very understanding and gives work but also allows extra credit. I took this course during the summer. It was a fast pace, 4 week course; so there was a lot of reading to do. Overall, shes an awesome instructor. She provides chapter contents with chapter review and even adds videos.
I personally enjoyed the minimal structure of this class. It was very easy and straightforward. The grade was based only on quizzes, no final exam, and 3 extra credit discussions plus extra credit from the two lowest quiz grades. Basically, there's about 25% of extra credit that's not even necessary because the quizzes are easy.
My first online psychology class, and it won't be the last one - if all teachers are like Dr. Rivere. Excellent teacher who relates course materials to daily life to make it meaningful and easy to understand (and remember!) Her tests are fair and you will do well if you use the Study List to help prepare for tests. She is very supportive.
Just finished taking her statistics class. Dr. Rivere is fantastic! I was not doing well, so I emailed her and she gave me a lot of helpful suggestions to help me pass the class. VERY HELPFUL! Be sure to read her lectures. Its better than the book!
Im new to Ventura College & was reluctant to take a 4-week class thinking that the pace would be overwhelming. I worried for nothing. Dr. Rivere organized the class in such a way that it was easy to follow and she provided us with all the help we needed, in order to do well (videos, lectures, practice quizzes, an outline of the chapters, etc.)
I took her shortened stats class online. It is A LOT of reading and there aren't lecture videos of the professor explaining, instead she uses a document where she types out an explanation of the material. She does provide lots of outside resources to enhance learning. Your grade is based on 12 quizzes but there is extra credit provided
100% of the learning for this course is through reading, so if that isn't your thing I wouldn't take this class. The textbook is kind of confusing at times, I felt like it over-complicated the material. The class is based solely on chapter quizzes, so make sure you genuinely read and take notes on both the textbook reading and the typed lectures.
I have always had difficulty with math. Having completed Statistics with Dr. Rivere helped regain my confidence. Found her Lectures very helpful. Everything in the quiz is explained in her lectures. Study List helps w/quiz. Can use notes while taking quiz. Very helpful when I emailed for suggestions to improve my grade. Very supportive teacher!
My 2nd class with Dr. Rivere. Love how she teaches. Well organized and brings course materials to a very practical level. Really good at explaining how psychology weaves into our lives. Responsive and helpful. Replies to emails right away.
Excellent teacher. Online class very easy to follow. Gives helpful suggestions on how to do well in class. The most supportive professor I have had. Too bad she only teaches one class. Would like to take more classes with her.
I love Prof Rivere! I've been going to VC school for about 4 years now and out of all the Professors I've had, she's the best! I learned so much from her. She uses a lot of analogies and tons of examples so you can relate what you're learning in the real world. I would take her class again if I could, no doubt about that!
Dr. Rivere is a great professor. Although it was an online class, but it was easy as long as you do your work and read the book, participate in discussion to get extra credit. The best part is, there is no final exam.
I am a high school student. This is my first college class. Great way to start college! Teacher is very organized. Online course easy to follow. Requirements are reasonable, so I was able to attend to my high school classes. No finals, only Chapter Exercise and Quiz. 2 lowest Quiz scores are dropped. Can use Study List with notes during quiz.
Excellent teacher. Online class easy to follow. Reasonable requirements for a short term class
My first online class. Well organized, easy to follow. Study Lists help with quizzes. No final exam. Awesome teacher! Very helpful and supportive.
Excellent teacher. Reasonable requirements, considering it's a short session. I took Statistics before, but dropped because of heavy requirements. This teacher is very helpful and cares about student success. Gave me good study suggestions. Also, free textbook. Ended up getting an A in the course.
I did not like this professor. She was a harsh grader and did not have clear expectations at all. I enjoyed the material that we read in the textbook and felt like I learned valuable information, but the professor was horrible.
Very strict grading criteria. Does not give feedback. Does not offer extra credit. If you need to make up an assignment, it is required that you have proof of absence. For example, if you were out of town, it is required to send a gas, hotel, transportation receipt to her. I do not recommend unless you are a very independent student.
Best online class I have taken. Well organized & easy to follow. Requirements reasonable. Dr. Rivere a fair grader and responsive to student concerns.
Edelwina's class was well-organized and helpful. The textbook and study tools like Unstuck AI made it easy to stay on top of the material. Participation was key, but the workload was manageable.
Very interesting class. Most assignments were straightforward, but the ones that aren't are a pain to get through. Wording can be very off putting when trying to understand what an assignment requires which makes for a frustrating experience. A lot of textbook based assignments for a 3 credit class? No thank you.
I am a high school student and took my first college course with Dr. Rivere. I was concerned because it was a short session & wasn't sure if I could handle all the work on top of my HS classes. I worried for nothing. Requirements were reasonable-quizzes only, no final exam. Dr. Rivere is supportive & replied to my emails with helpful suggestions.
Best online class I have taken - & I have taken lots! Class is well organized and easy to follow. Requirements are reasonable, and easy to manage during 8 week session. Professor is very helpful and provides help and guidance. Course is very informative and offers practical application to daily life. Can use study guide & notes while taking test.
Professor Rivere presented the course in a way that relates it to our everyday life. I did not realize that psychology is about everything in our life! Time demand was reasonable for someone who works full time like me. Extra credit gave me a chance to bump my grade up. I will definitely take another course from her.
