He wasn't a nice professor. His tests had plenty of typos, and he would just list book sections on the review, not even problems. He didn't lecture, just clicked at a PowerPoint that was copied from the book. He rushes also. We had 3 labs in one day!
Horrible teacher. Do not take him.
just dont take him period
Take his class if you like a very rude teacher who reads out of a copied powerpoint presentation instead of teaching the class. He's very incoherent and his tests are full of typos.
Very poor professor, incompentent, unclear
I took physics 1 with him and made an A. He is the best teacher i have had in HCCs. He IS HELPFUL and stresses the importance of working assigned problem. I presume that is where many of the students who have previously written comments falter. For, physic is not an easy course and any body taking it has to spend some time in studying.
This is the worst teacher I believe I have ever had. He fails to recognize the fact that there is more than one way to do a problem...i.e 2+2 AND 6-2 both equal four. I have shown him errors on many of his tests, yet he insists on accepting only his answer even though it may be wrong. always behind, but only because he gets sidetracked on his own
A complete loser... arrogant and mean. Even though I made a B... he was no help at all and fails to recognize that we're undergrads, not PHD. students!
He is the best physics teacher in HCC.HE knows his material and explains physic concepts well. You will walk out of the class with a good grips on physics. Take him if you need to be really familiar with physics concepts.
He is a very good teacher at explaining things if you are going to take the mcat. He does treat you like a "Ph.D." student, but then at the same time he teaches you. He is helpful, and if you do the extra project in the end, you could boost your grade. I had him in the off semester. He is a nice guy, talk about family and real life situtations.
He sucks never take a class with him because u will fail even thought i got a B this teacher really doesn't know wat he is talking about and doesn't know how to speak someone teach him to talk please. Or let the college put him in a remeidial english class maybe he will learn how to talk to his students.
Dr. Akpanumoh is a terrific instructor. But his class is very hard and requires tons of effort to make an A. If you are lazy, don't even think about it. He loves physics and tries to convey that to everyone. He will prep you for much MCAT material but if you are looking for an easy grade - this isn't it. If you want to learn physics, you will.

I am sorry for students taking this teacher which is shame to call him a teacher. He wasted my whole semester. I agree with previous student about favouritism Do not get on his bad side. No matter what your grade is you will fail. Please go and complain to school dean and hopfully he can do something about it. It is a shame for other teachers.
This man made me understanf physics for the first time, he explains the concept to u with real life examples. he is one of the best in HCCS. the last 2 people that wrote about r being hateful, may be they flunked and trying to find excuses. all he requires from u is to study real hard! he curves very well too.
He is a horrible professor. I try to ask questions and he always refers me to the tutor. My opinion is why have a teacher that cant teach the subject. He doesnt give points for attending the class day to day etc. DONT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH THIS TEACHER!
Actually he is not that hard. He just cannot teach though. So if you are good at self-learning, you should be able to get a good grade since the test is easy and he does curve. Also, he does give participation grade as well.
Dr. A is a serious-minded prof, but tries to make the subject of physics fun. His class is hard if you are lazy - unless you are brilliant, which I am not. I spent 4 hours a day studying after class. He cares about student success and will work hard to help you understand, but he won't play games.

DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!! HE IS A TERRIBLE TEACHER!! (can't even speak English)
Terrible teaching professor questions in class are on the test and final is a mix of old test. Took him during the summer 11 30's on the first test and he only curved it 5 points.
Excellent instructor. I highly recommend him to anyone wanting to learn and understand physics. Learned a lot fro his class. I certainly do recommend him.

I have never met a more discouraging prof. I'm honestly disgusted by him and his attitude towards his students. Outside, he seems nice especially when you first meet him, but he really is the type of person who thinks of most of his students as stupid. When you ask him anything he makes some **** comment. Rude. Insulting. Don't waste your time.
This is the worst teacher in HCC. He's totally useless, can speak the languague that's NOT ENGLISH. Very unclear in grading, always have the tendency to bring you down. Take him! To experience the most horrible person in the world
Dr. A is an excellent instructor. You learn from him. He makes Physics which is hard subject fun. Very helpful to students and very understanding too. He explains very clearly and works numerous examples on the board after each chapter. His exams are very fair and he grades very fairly. I took him for both PHYS 1401 and 1402. Highly recommend him.
He's really not so bad. Physics is not an easy subject so imagine how hard it must be to teach it to a group of students who are at best, mildly interested. Take him. Get on his good side. Show him you are willing to work toward a good grade and he won't be so hard on you. He can tell if you are just bs-ing and he hates that.
he is willing to help you. BUT THATS IT. aside from that, his personality stinks. every now and again he will throw in a **** joke at the expense of the females. I agree with below, he really does think his students are stupid.
Dr. A is a bad professor, i would never reccommend him to anyone, no human being alive on earth. In my class a great number of people failed or dropped. He's a ok guy, but does not know how to teach.
He knows his stuff, but when asking a question, he tends to make you feel stupid if it is something that you should know already. He tends to talk down to students, sometimes calling us slow when it takes awhile to solve a problem and makes a lot of unnecessary jokes. I don't recommend this professor, unless you already know physics quite well.
DONT TAKE THIS GUY!! Im warning you..This is the worst physics professor you can ever take..i took this idoit during the summer. Not a fair grader, and tends to crack corny jokes, Undermines your intellegence and like to put students on the spot.
Go ahead and take this guy if you want a grade lower than what you deserve. If your taking him, you better be good at teaching yourself physics. Incomprehensible accent, Illegible hand writing, Rarely gives partial credit on show works. Absolutely is not willing to help. Also, hes the head of physics in HCC which means hes hard as hell.
In his lectures he goes over potential test problems. In order to succeed in class a lot of studying should be done outside of class. Teacher is not easily approachable and is very condescending.
Well, Physics is not an easy course unless you work hard. I took him in 2008 and he was a little strict at first but later became a very nice guy. I did very well in his class because i studied so hard for all of his tests. You just have to work hard to get good grades. That's just how life is!!
I ended up with a C (my only C ever at hcc lol). didn't enjoy it much. took him over the summer.
Buy the study guide. This is basically a self-taught course. Do ALL homework problems, practice exams, etc because you will see the same questions on the exams. Exams are long and difficult. Repeat the problems, read study guide (which works out some problems) until you understand them. This class is hard. Maybe 1 or 2 A's per 20 students. No curve
He's not horrible, but not great either. He works lots of problems but sometimes doesn't explain them slowly enough and does not give a general guideline to solving some of the problems. If you want a good grade, I recommend getting a tutor and working all the homework problems and reading all the chapters which I've almost done.
The class and tests are easy and boring. Lecture consist of powerpoint and him talking about his experiences. You have to come to class to receive credit.
Physics is a tough course but he makes it simple and straight forward. He has thick accent but he CAN teach. Don't expect an easy A. There are no HW assignments but there are labs(not difficult). If you do the HW it will help you get an A or at least pass the class. He says what problems are goin to be on the tests so take good notes andattendclass
Attending class is part of the grade. He says the tests are mostly based on what he says when it really is mostly from the book. Your tests will be harshly graded. He has an accent and it is quite difficult to hear at first.
STAY AWAY! Worst professor I have ever had. He speeds through the problems on the board and has horrible handwriting. His accent is very thick and his sense of "humor" is not funny and interferes with his ability to convey the material. I am not looking for an easy A, but unless you want to teach yourself physics just stay away from this professor.
Well I really liked this prof. He is a petroleum engineer and is a Dr. intro to engineering is just reading and memorizing what he asks you to from book. Super easy class, I really liked him. I dunno bout physics tho.
BEWARE of his class in the summer. If you take this class, be prepared to learn physics on your own. He will cover theory in class, perform one or two problems on the board, BUT he won't give you the answer or explain his work. He also makes jokes/random sounds in the middle of sentences to make what he's trying to say even harder. Good luck!
Loves to be the comedian. Doesn't know how to time himself for each PowerPoint slide. A disappointment because I went in there thinking we were going to build cool gadgets or robotsNOthe group presentations for my class consisted of what would an engineer do in this scenario. Dont be shy, there's a lot of talking in front of class.
You will have to learn on your own. He brags about how he created the course but I did not learn anything from him. He is a nice prof but if you want to learn, nice isn't enough to learn Physics. He has a really poor teaching strategy.
JUST AVOID!!!!!!!! If you can. Easy class to get a B in but he is an unprofessional, incomprehensible, and unhelpful professor. First half of the semester is more or less chem 1 and some phys 1 you do not touch anything from physics 2 until the last half. Expect a cumulative final with a worthless review.... I wouldn't take again if you paid me to.
I took a online engineering introduction class on the mini season. it was not too bad, as long as you can do youR home work early. and the teacher is really helpful and response emails actively. and good grade. the system made a mistake and gave me a 0 on my last home work, and the Professor fixed for me right the way. BIG THANK YOU :)
I took the engineering introduction this mini season. lot of reading in a short time, but it's not too bad as long as you finish home work early. the professor this really helpful. The system had a mistake, and gave me a 0 on my last home work. The professor changed my grade right after we find out. BIG THANK YOU FOR THE HELP!!!
Good professor and really helpful. the system did mistake and gave me a 0 on my last home work. the professor fixed and changed my grate right the way. also there is no final in the mini season I took. The mini season is not too hard, but as long as you finish your home work early. BIG THANK YOU FOR FIX MY GRADE ! ! !
I took Dr. Akpanumoh for PHYS 1401. I absolutely loved his class in 1401, so I decided to take him for 1402. Physics is not an easy subject and it is not for everyone, but he breaks down the material to where you can understand it. You cannot pass physics without properly preparing for the exams. This class requires hours of studying.
This teacher talks specifically about his experiences in the petroleum industry , that's it. I've talked to other students who took his physics class, they told me they learned how he worked in the petroleum industry when they took his class. He will talk about this the entire semester, among other silly things which have no relation to physics.
Took this class during the summer; very fast paced. Instructor's lectures were useful to a point; sometimes went off subject. Lab reports were a pain and graded pretty harshly... Took off many points for minor mistakes. Tests were okay. Not too bad if you studied. Free response questions on final were hard. Curves on one of the exams.
He doesn't seem to care about the students. He writes like chicken scratch and is difficult to understand. He would talk to us condescendingly when asked for help and was very unprofessional. DO NOT TAKE HIM!
I took it during summer so it was quite intense. In my opinion, Professor Akpanumoh was all right. He cares if students really understand and tries his best to explain using examples&problems. For lab, we did it in groups and each group only needs to turn in one report for every lab. Hw was online. He does make a lot of not-so-funny jokes though.
The worst professor that I've experienced. Though grader, poor lecture and you don't even know why the points were taken. Making funless joke.
Welp, avoid if possible. U cant read what he wrote, U cant hear what he said. and you are expected to complete all question with out mistake. Even with physics knowledge from the pass still cant pull of good grades in test. NO, just NO.
Bad teacher. Long almost impossible to complete tests. Too much homework. Incomprenhensible grading criteria. Terrible classes. Can't even ask him questions. Makes mistakes with labs. Makes mistakes with theory. Worst physics teacher ever.
This professor... I have no words to say for this professor. I took this class during the summer & he makes this class A LOT harder than it is. He is never clear about grading criteria and doesn't even answer questions clearly or lectures clearly. Makes fun more than he actually lectures. Avoid him at all costs if possible.
AVOID!!!AVOID!!!AVOID don't even make him your last option! thats what happened to me I said how hard can this guy really be! i didn't heed the warnings i should have! he writes randomness from each chapter no organization explanation minimum mostly terrible anecdotes with no humor at all and that is your test lecture now good luck with that test:(
AVOID AT ALL POSSIBLE. ESSAY PROBLEMS ARE WORTH 5 OR 10 POINTS AND YOU WILL GET MAYBE 2 OUT OF 5 OR 4 OUT OF 10. DO NOT TAKE HIM.
At first I was scared to take this professor because of his reviews, but honestly he was not as bad as they make him out to be. I actually liked him a lot. You have to work for your grade, but he is very fair. He has a review day before the exams which helps. Overall, if you want an A or B, you can get it as long as you do the work and practice.
Worst prof, till now dont ever think of taking him. He makes you feel physics is hardest subject in universe.
I just had a very good experience with Dr. Akpanumoh. He teaches with passion. His lectures cover the chapters pretty good. He assigns suitable homework (quizzes) for us to practice. Before each major exam, he reviews the chapters for important knowledge and equations. You need to be good at algebra otherwise you will fail the exams.
OK, so I took this professor last semester and I already wrote a review that's how much I'm pleading students not to take this guy. The teacher you take actually matters most of my class got a D and below only 2 B's you've been warned!! Imagine Ricks' voice "don't do it MORTY!!" that's me say "don't do it ppl!!!!" there are so many other teachers!
The worst professor ever!! If you plan to get a better gpa, NEVER take him, he will destroy it. The answers on his quiz are wrong at times and he is never ready to change it. The way he grades the tests are really bad. Had to choose this class at the last moment and he was the only option. Choose a different professor. My advice to you all!
Please don't take him. You can't read what he writes, you can't understand what he says. Tests are unbearably hard. Everyone was getting 20s to70s in all tests. He did not curve the final grade we ended up with Cs, Ds, Fs. Will keep you entire 3 hours, rarely gives breaks. Gives incorrect answers to problems, picks on students. Please just don't.
crazy standards for grading. The amount of points you lose has very little (some times nothing!) to do with the mistake you have made. Not a fair grader. Beware especially if you are at border line for a desired final grade
I read his reviews and thought it wouldn't be too bad and honestly he wasn't extremely difficult but his teaching method and organization skills are not good. His tests are intimidating as well. He tries to be funny but then can be really rude one on one. So he's kind of all over the place.
He is so rude professor ! Never take his class. Its not helpful ! Especially in lab reports he grade so weird which is so disappointing.
Difficult grader, especially in Lab. You don't know what he is grading off of, so grade in labs seem arbitrary. lab is 20% of your grade so it's worth quite a lot. Exams are difficult but do able; just make sure you do the question he tells you to. practice those questions at least 3 times before the exam. Exam is similar to questions he gives.
worst professor I've ever met at HCC, the tests is too long and don't give you enough time, you can't even read what he writes on the board, there are no reviews before the final. if you to mess up your GPA then take him otherwise run as fast as you can
he does his job with teaching but its tough to understand what he writes. he grades lab reports so harshly its unfair; ive seen people put far less effort in lab reports and still land A's in them with diff professors. the exams contain the questions he teaches, but the hardest ones. he also gives no credit for showing your work, this is a warning.
This guy is a real piece of work. For the first 10 chapters everything was pretty standard. He posted lengthy (75+ slides) PP presentations as the lecture and then we would have homework assigned based on it. Suddenly after the first exam he stopped posting the lectures but still had homework due. It's a damn treasure hunt to find course content
Never take his class again very confused and add the wrong date of exam!
since the covid -19 pandemic hit and our class was forced to be online. he made the class even harder to be in. mainly becasue he is a hard grader, doesn't communicate well enough , bad test reviews, and would make tests the heavy weight of your grade, if you fail any tests your basically screwed. DON'T GET THIS PROFESSOR!
This was one of the worst teachers I've ever had. He was rude and graded so hard. He made several mistakes while grading tests but would refuse to regrade. He was super condescending to students and was horrible at explaining things. His lectures were useless because nothing he said on the lecture would be on the test anyway. Please do not take him
I took him for this Spring semester, and I really regret that I chose him. Why? He did not review anything before tests and no extra credit. I tried to email him by 3 different emails, but he did not answer. I have taken Hcc classes for 2 years and always get A, but this class I get B. If you want to hurt your GPA, just take him.
His handling of online classes is very poor and he didn't respond to any emails. Please save your time and money and don't take his class
This professor does not understand how to make online course work. He changed the weight of the grades midway and made the labs worth only 10% reduced from 20% that it was initially. He gives really difficult exams. I'm a premed student and I feel his exams are geared towards engineering students. The calculations take forever.
Well, let's just say, if I had the choice to take him again, I WILL NOT. Unresponsive with emails even though he tells the students to email him with any questions. He never gives high grades for labs, he will always make up some excuse to take of points, even though you did everything correctly. Prepare to ask a ton of questions in order to pass.
He's honest to God one of the worst professors I've ever taken for any subject. He barely explains how to do any of the labs, and any explanations he does give are incredibly vague. The grades he gives on labs seem more like they were from a random number generator than based on any work you did. Avoid taking his classes at all costs.
DO NOT TAKE HIM IF YOU WANT TO PASS THIS CLASS! he makes it so hard for students to understand the lectures. and then ends up blaming the students for it. everyone in my class recived bad grade for exam 1 and he decided to email all of us and blame us for it. but the truth was his teaching way is so bad that even he gets confused on what he says.
Honestly, I was never able to leave lectures with a clear mind about the subject, always more confused. He doesn't respond to emails or anything, just during lectures he will answer questions. Quizzes might be on quizlet and chegg, but Tests he'll do tricks and change numbers. I'm repeating the class but definitely not with him.
If you want to fail a class, heres your chance. Worst professor Ive ever had. NOT clear with his explanations, you can barely understand his writing, his accent makes it 10x harder to learn the material. He just really really doesnt know how to explain anything. Youtube videos helped me way more than he ever did in any of his lectures.
I took this class and it was a total disaster. First, all of his work and due date is not labelled right and he only corrects them close to the actual due date (e.x. HW1-2 due at 2018) Second, his lecture confuses everybody as his accent and his way of teaching is not that good Third, his response to emails are slow or he will never write back
The professor is actually very caring and a nice person. He does care about his students, however he is a tough grader. His grading criteria does not make any sense and you have no clue what he takes points off for. The test are hard but the questions are exactly what he gives you in class. Overall dont take unless you are super dedicated and smart
His ratings are low, but I wouldn't blame that on him. The speed at which he flies through chapters is a result of the super-compact physics schedule. On top of this, my class was only an hour and twenty minutes long, twice a week. He wants you to have a thorough understanding, but time is usually never on his side.
Don't do this to yourself. Tells you to read textbook, but lectures "in his own way" because he doesn't like how the textbook explains it. When you get to the test, you're unable to answer any of the questions. You will teach yourself 100% of the material in this class, TRUST ME. Nice guy, but I promise you this professor is not worth it
Do NOT take this professor!! He treats his online classes as if they are the exact same as face-to-face courses, and not in a good way. Forget about emailing him and hoping that the reply will be respectful and patient, his responses are very rude. Be prepared for the due dates of assignments being changed abruptly. I will not take him again!
Class isn't incredibly hard, but the professor is terrible. Goes on tangents on how hard he had it back then. He was not lenient for emergency situations and blamed students for everything rather than taking any type of responsibility. I've never made a RMP, but this guy was awful I felt like I needed to in order to be a good samaritan lol.
This is the worst professor I ever had. He is very mean, degrading and really doesn't care about his students. He thinks too highly of himself, can't teach and you can barely understand him. He spends a lot of time in class making jokes but his humor is uncomfortable. The exams are difficult and long. Only 2 hour to work through 20 free response.
Exams and lab scores are closed off, you kind of just get the grade he gives you. Takes off points for completely random reasons. Take someone else.
literally if you ask question,he wont reply or if he does he will reply in rudest, most regarding way possible Tests are almost all FRQ and he doesn't even share with us the graded frq so you don't even know what you got wrong like never had a professor hide his grading and final is 4 questions and its impossible for anyone to finish in given time
Horrible teacher, talks about him self so much instead of teaching the class and then complains how there is no time to teach us. He grades so hard on tests for no reasons. Gonna have to retake, all those hours of studying gone to nothing. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR, EVEN IF HE IS THE ONLY OPTION, WAIT A SEMESTER.
This professor is one of the worst professors at HCC. He does not care about his students at all. He will only grade the work if it is like the work he showed in class; he will not give any space for students to showcase their ways of solving the problem. This professor was reported to the dean, so don't take him. Save your money.
Ngl the only reason I got a good grade in this class is bc I took Physics 2 in highschool and heavily leaned on those notes. I took his Physics 2 Lab course and he basically did not know at all what labs he was giving out. He makes fun of his students constantly and is extremely degrading. His course was not a good environment for learning.
Worst teacher I ever had.
You will not be able to understand any of his lecture not because he has a very thick accent but because he keep derailing the class with some personal antics/remarks that are completely irrelevant. One of the assignments, he almost failed the entire class because we did not correctly followed ONE instruction (40% penalty for my assignment)
He is strict with deadlines. He is an easy marker as long as you complete the questions properly.
Labs 20%, Homework 10%, 3 Exams 50% and Final 20%. Constantly degraded his students and always found a way to blame students. Also employed these little tricks that diminished students' grades and was not consistent with exam formats and made students UPLOAD pictures of their work on FRQ sections. Did not curve anything. Absolutely don't take.
I took lab with him. He is a somewhat harsh grader. also... its often times hard to tell when he is making a joke or not lolll. He cares abt his students tho. also... sometimes it can be hard to understand him through his accent (I got used to it later on)
Currently taking course. Not a bad professor but I see what other ratings mean by "rants". Sometimes they're funny. Sometimes they take up class time. Has a "grainy" mic plus an accent so it does not make things easier. Will have to use external sources to make up for whatever isn't covered well or you don't understand. Very "old school" professor.
I do not recommend taking this profesor he is not professional at all he is rude and makes snarky remarks and is just horrible. Hand writing is horrible. He is an extremely tough grader, if he cannot open one of your attachments you get a 0 for your test or homework, he is not reasonable nor understanding. DO NOT TAKE HIM…RUN SERIOUSLY
Teacher should be fired for his inability to listen to us
Wrote a review in Sep. 23. Still not a bad professor. His writing is hard to read. Does review for the final. HW 10%, Lab 20%, Final 20%, Exams 50%. Not online/computer savvy. Did curve/drop some grades. Will have to check his learning web for additional/manditory class resources. For exams, would give partial credit for FRQs. Take at your own risk.
Do not by all means, take this class with this professor. 0/10 recomend.
Professor Edem can be tough, but if you stay engaged and use resources like unstuck ai for study prep, you can do well. Grading is strict, but fair if you follow instructions closely.
Claims to be fair and that his labs are an easy A, they are not & his grading and expectations are always unclear. Wastes time in class to degrade his students and go on unnecessary tangents. You probably won't fail, but you won't have a good time in his class. Toxic learning environment.
Professor can be condescending and rude when it comes to being asked questions. In addition, professor grades hard when it comes to lab reports followed by FRQs. Lectures are okay, however, there isn't much of connections being made with previous knowledge known to where I came out more confused. He also goes on rants a lot, so beware.
