Great lectures, hard tests
a very nice, poilte teacher who actually cares
Great lectures, hard midterms.
He was terrible - Drop his course if you get him! He was a bad lecturer.
Easy Going, Helpful. Hard midterms and exams. Course notes are not great.
Always willing to help.. but sometimes he thinks we are dumb as lint
Nice prof, though not enough examples and lectures are easier than assin & exams
Where to start!!!!!!
There are more thngs in this world besides Math EGG.
The worst prof I have ever had.Don't buy his book no matter how good he says it is!!! IT ISN'T!!!
I really didn't like this course or this prof!!!
Goodaire is a good guy. He really loves teaching, and if you pay attention to what he says/does in class, it's really easy to pick up. He's a tough marker, but fair. So much better than any other math prof I've had at MUN.
He is kinda helpful if you don't mind being talked to like you're the village idiot. He wrote the book on the subject but his explanations are shifty at best.
Great prof! Ready to help students, even with assignment questions at 8:00 on friday morning, when they are due at 9:00. Very enthusiastic about Math and he really knows his stuff. Keep up the great work.
He's a pompous over bearing man, who's only joy in life is math, he's so obsessed with 'his' book that all other things are irrelevant, there's no point asking him for help, he'll only refer you to the useless book. Avoid this man at all costs (2050 isn’t
Avoid this course with this man. He is arrogant and condescending at best. He seems to think that the fact he wrote the book gives him the right to treat everyone else like an invalid.
Dr. Goodaire is a simple man. He wants to help you and he will help you if you give him the chance. He is smart and this is sometimes a disadvantage because he sometimes doesn't understand what you're asking. He will always try to do his best to help you.
Dr. Goodaire is excellent, he knows his stuff and knows how to get it across to you. if you dont understand, he dont mind explaining it to you again, i went to him about help with another course and he had no problem with it at all. Excellent
Material isn't that hard. He offers to help a lot, but when u ask something u end up looking like a moron every time.
nice guy and 2 years later still remembers my name, but one of the most boring lecturers EVER and will not answer questions in his office, meaning you have to ask at the beginning of class in front of everyone so that it is "fair" to everyone ..
I think he should stick to writing books and stay out of the classroom!!!
A really good prof. He really knows his material, and doesn't mind talking with you about the subject matter. Very approachable and a nice guy.
He's arrogant, plain and simple. He also loves to teach his own book, much to the detriment of his students. While he gets his point acrossmost of the time, his teaching style, in a word, sucks, and he will *only* use examples that are in his precious book.
Dr.Goodaire is by far the best prof in the math department. He is excellent for Math 2050. Very helpful, pleasent man who will do examples over and over to help you. But Math 2050 is a joke.. it is an easy 90 or at least 80. I highly recommend Goodaire Do not expect help if you do not do any work!
good prof. get him if you can!
good prof, but the great thing is that he wrote one hell of a text for 2050 - i missed a lot of classes but the book explained all the topics wonderfully. recommended.
**** -- Do NOT get him if possible. Very ignorant and his notes come STRAIGHT from the book. Not helpful AT ALL, and very arrogant.
Co-wrote a very good book for the course. Gives great lectures but you don't need as many notes because it's basically the same as the book. Good for people who like really paying attention and learning in class. Always willing to help.
Worst prof ever. DO NOT GET THIS GUY
The worst prof by far! It doesn't matter how much work you do or don't do, he's not exactly willing to help. Very arrogant and his book is crap! It's pointless to go to class - just read his book, that's all he teaches anyway. All examples come from the book. To sum him up in one word, ****!
Never taking another course with him again. Very arrogant and wont answer questions. Notes are exactly the same as his book, therefore you have no alternative when you don't understand something. Stay away!!!

Pompous and arrogant. Does he think that writing the book means he doesn't have to know how to teach it?? The worst Math prof I've had so far. God, don't tell me it gets worse from here!! I've never seen a prof so full of himself before! And, I've never asked for, and received, so little help before in a course.
Dr. Goodaire cares about everyone he teaches. All I've seen was concern about how we are doing, so he is great! If you gave him a bad rating, you don't know him. If you are failing his course(s), then maybe you shouldn't be doing math!
Math 1000 is brutal, but I cannot blame the prof. I found lectures very enjoyable, which is odd for someone who doesnt enjoy math. He calls students by the title "my friends" and to be honest, he really seems to feel that way. I dont know what he's like for 2050 math, but as a first year student he was great; better than my High school teacher!
If at all possible AVOID taking him at all cost. I`ve gotten stuck with him a few times and it has made me hate those math courses I`ve had with him.
He was a good proff. I would consider taking him again. He marks very hard and his assignment are difficult, but he is very clear in his lectures. Not very helpful, but if you work on your assignments you should be fine. If you don't want to work hard don't bother because he is challenging as a prof.
Edgar is a great professor. He presents the material very clearly, and if you don't understand something, he will always make time to go through the problem methodically. I should tell you: his midterms are easy. His final exams are harder, and cover much more of the stuff from the second part of the course than the first.
Great prof... always wiliing to help... all around good guy in my opinion...
Every book you wrote is horrible. The examples are horrible, the comments are horrible, and you can't explain anything. That's right... ANYTHING!!! I suggest you retire...NOW!!!
This guy is SO cheesy, and so is his book. What a horrible prof. He made an easy course much harder than what it was supposed to be. I must finish by saying, " who wrote brahm's lullaby" HOW CHEESY He actually wrote that in his book. Need i say more?
Goodaire is an excellent prof, he really enjoys the material and teaches it well. Many people would consider him a tough professor, but if you do the assignments and understand them, the tests are easy by comparison.
He has a really different way of explaining things that takes some getting used to, but after the first few lectures things start to make sense. He has a bad habit of taking way more time explaining things than necessary, though.
absolute worst excuse i have ever seen as a prof, notes are easy enough to follow, however his assignments are ridiculus, as are his tests and he generally doesen't seem to care about anything. go to his office for help and he will make you feel like an idiot, i would never recommend taking anything with this guy, nothing!!!
What an amazing professor. He's a little quiet and gets frustrated when people are ignoring him but such a great teacher. And he honestly cares if his students do well. Ask him a question and it makes his day. Great guy, great professor.
NEVER^3 take this course. Does NOT explain the material properly. Examples done in class make sense, however tests and assignments are insanely hard. Constantly putting down the class.
terrible proff. explaination of the material is fragmented and unclear. he'd start an example then tangent off then go back to the example about 3 times before he got one question done. I've done this course before and it wasn't bad, but this time around it was like a brand new course. avoid this proff.
Overall a good prof, could give better notes though
Very good teacher... explains things well and is humble enough to accept when he makes a mistake and correct himself.. he will explain things over and over until you understand. Also he is very clear and coherent and although i havent finished the course yet.. i predict that he will teach great for here on
Goodaire is a very nice man, but unfortunately this course only started to make any sense after I began attending tutorials. He does not clearly explain all the steps of a problem most of the time, and his lectures are quite abstract. If you have trouble with math, I don't recommend this professor. At all.
more examples needed

It is true that Dr. Goodaire is a tough prof. That being said; he is very organized, his expectations are clear, and he is very helpful. He's a very humble man and his humor is enjoyable. I would recommend this prof, however expect to have to make several visits to the math help centre for help with his assignments which can be a little tough.
A lot of people didn't like this guy but I thought he was great. If you like math I recommend him for a prof. his explanations are short and to the point and he goes over everything you need to know. He has a sense of humor so I hope you like sarcasm.
Goodaire cares a lot about his students and makes an effort to get to know them. He tries hard to be clear, but he makes a lot of mistakes, which is frustrating. His first explanation makes the most sense; after that, it gets confusing. His assignments are hard but his tests are fair. Gave a lot of review for the final. I'd reccommend him for 1000.
very nice man,but made this course next to impossible.in comparison to other profs, tests and notes are evidently more difficult.often confusing at explaining things and moves very fast.im a bright student who puts in the effort, but seriously struggled with this course because of the prof.however,he is always there to help if that is any consolation
I have had him for two courses now, and is he is a good man. He loves math and loves his students. When we don't do well, you can see he's more disapointed in himself than the students. I didn't do too hot in either course (just not a math person) and i think the fact i still acknowledge he's a good prof says alot.
Dr. Goodaire was disrespectful and dismissive towards students. I'm a strong math student and I found that his assignments were of a higher difficulty level than the majority of math 1000 sections. In support of this, I entered the exam with a mark in the 70's and got 100% on the exam.
horrible man all around, notes are elementary, tests and assignments are nothing like you get in class and he loves to see you do bad just like suvak.
Very sweet guy, helpful and very smart
If you can help it I would recommend you NOT take this course with this teacher. He makes examples and assignments ridiculously complicated and doesn't care how his students do. I went to see him about a test and he told me he doesn't have time to see students and it makes him uncomfortable to see them privately. Absolutely the worst prof I've had.
Don't expect to get help outside of class time. Every time I stopped by he was 'incredibly busy', and he would prefer I ask my questions in class or on the discussion group. It's not an easy course but if you work at it you'll do well, midterms were hard but the final was identical to a sample worksheet he handed out at the last class.
I don't know what everyone else is talking about, I found him great! He did say he wasn't confortable talking to students privately but he just wanted to keep it fair for everyone else. The assignments weren't hard, but he does want you to think. Our class did bad on one test and he said anyone who felt they did bad could come talk to him about it.
Not good. His examples are straight from the textbook (which he wrote), which is not that helpful. His teaching ability was reflected in the failing class average on both midterms. The only reason the exam was good was to raise the terrible class average going in. Overall a difficult course and a bad instructor. Not recommended.
I've had Goodaire now for 1000 and 2050, and he was much better in 1000. For 2050, the matrix unit in particular was marked harshly. He'll always answer questions on D2L and having those hints there really helps with assignments. He's a pretty helpful guy, but can be rude without knowing it. Use his D2L textbook draft! Much better than his notes.
Decent teacher, I had him for math 2050 on distance. He cares about his students, he doesn't have a problem giving an extension for assignments within reason. He will also change the weight of your final if you would like.
Assignments were fairly straightforward and between the notes and the textbook one shouldn't have too much difficulty answering the questions. People who did poorly on midterms and the exam were those who did not put forth the effort to understand the theory behind it all. Dr. Goodaire always answered D2L questions within 24 hours. Overall, great!
Just awful. AVOID.
I thought he was an excellent prof for this course. The assignments were not bad, notes really good, and he was excellent for help.Kept class interesting. Really good for a course that is different/hard.You need to put the work into it though!
I had this proffessor twice. Once for a 2051 course, and once for a 3320 course. He regularly intimidated students who came to visit uring office hours. When that didn't work on me, I found him to be begrudgingly helpful. He's passionate about Math, but too impatient for those of us who haven't gotten our masters. Avoid him if you can.
Loved Goodaire. I love going to math class. He does sufficient examples on the board. dHis assignments are tricky, but thats what the help centre is for. the tests are never near as tricky as the assignments. The man loves math, and is willing to help during office hours. He loves D2L, and responds definately within a day to your email. He was also

WORST prof ever in existence. Avoid him. His tests never make any sense and he gets annoyed when you need help. Also, if you ask a question he never directly gives you an answer, so you just have no idea what is going on. He's just horrible, soooooo horrible.
AWFUL!! Did his course by distance this fall; assignments are ridiculously hard.. tests were ok but the class term avg was fairly low (48%) so atleast the final should have been easier. but the final was wayyy harder than any of the assignments or tests. I don't think he cares about his students.
Very tough prof. Class average after first test was 48. Talked to other people doing the same course with other professurs and they found the course good. If you are good at math and understand it well then this guy is for you, otherwise, avoid this guy as much as possible. Nice guy, loves his math, so if you dont love yours, dont take this course
I attended all his class from day one to the end of class but did not understand his teaching. He is a good prof but teaches the course as if he is teaching masters student. Please run with your two legs not touching the ground. AVOID AVOID AVOID or else.........egg
This is a very difficult course, taught by someone who clearly has a lot of passion for the subject. Some of the content is kind of dry, but he does his best to make it at least somewhat interesting. He makes very hard tests and marks them harshly but fairly. I would recommend him to anyone who likes Linear Algebra and is willing to work.
This man grates many people the wrong way (I being one of them). Is rude in correspondence, one on one, and in feedback. Teaches the course as if it we all have phd's. Notes are all over the place (and this includes the book he wrote). Writes questions on the board and ten minutes later there is still no answer because he meandered off. AVOID!
Very rude answering in class questions and also one on one. Notes are horrible and missing a lot of detail. Does half examples, and wanders off in class talking about math not needed in the particular course. Also a very hard marker with hard tests. The class average going into the final was below 50%
If you have taken Integral Calculus before and have a solid understanding of it already than this class is for you. If you haven't then Goodaire likely isn't too interested in helping you learn anything. Save yourself some tuition money and avoid this prof.
Great guy. He marks hard at times, but fairly and evenly. He is very helpful when it comes to one on one questions, as long as you take the time to try a problem first before asking him. He is ecstatic about math and tries his best to make it interesting (and doesn't to a bad job of it!) To do well, practice using problems from the textbook.
Solid overall prof. I heard he can be a bit brutal for upper level courses though.
not very good teacher, very smart man, 2 books written in math, but dont know how to teach, very hard marker very hard assignment and test are extremely hard. assignments and notes doesnt help for tests, first midterm class avg was 39, AVOID AVOID AVOID
A little effort goes a long way in this course. Super helpful guy who wants his students to ask questions and come for help. Did this course in Fall 2012 and loved it. Best 1001 prof I have heard of so far. Very easy to follow and understand. First test was difficult but the second made up for it. Recommend!!!!
