worst professor on the face of the earth. there is a definite language barrier (both speaking and writing). he admits to not preparing for class. you can't read his handwriting and you can forget about understanding anything on his tests/exams. also, he was a complete jerk to me on several occasions when i asked for help.
I benefited tremendously from professor Ghossoub's class. You need to study harder than other classes but you learn alot.
Simply the best. Very helpful and passionate.
Dr. Ghoussub class was difficult and you do have to study more for it but you do learn quite a bit if you put the effort into it. The book was useless because his test were based primarily on the lecture. He is helpful and will take the time when you go to him with your questions.
Not a good teacher. Very smart but doesnt know how to teach. He comes to class unprepared and makes economics harder than it is. He is hard to understand and gets mad when you ask for help. My reccomendation goes to Prof Luquette. you will actuall learn with him.
Well, honestly guys, he is a great teacher. he makes a lot of effort to makes students understand their business. go to his classes and pay attention and i bet you will get at least B if you didn't put effort. You don't have to get the book unless you want extra knowledge.
He is really good professor. Loves to teach this subject. This class is a little harder than the average core class but its was worth it. He taught the student ways to understand what is actually going on in the news economic wise and use logic. Attending class is recommended if you want to save money and not buy a book.
Great prof. I higly recommand taking him. you'll enjoy his class. he helps alot with the grade, four quizes and, Two midterms. Gives free extra credit for the quizes and te midterms, but you need to attend class to get them...
I thought he was a very good teacher, although I hated the topic.
Great teacher. he makes this subject very easy through repetition. you HAVE to come to class though... he really doesnt teach from the book, so studying the book wont help too much. i would recomend him. =)
good professor, very funny, makes the subject interesting, really good at taking charge of the class room. coming to class is a must you have to do the work and put in the study time. he forces you to think and know the material.
Highly recommened u do go to class because his test are based on his lectures. Make sure to study ur notes every little while for the pop quizzes (which he mentions anyways a class or two before). When you study, make sure to study AND understand the basics, and work on problems on ur own thats very helpful. I had no book and still made an A!
He's a very good professor. It's just a matter of attending class and taking good notes. He tries to help you in any way he can.
Lectures interesting and covered material well.
Very helpful in class. Uses good real world examples.
he is the who knows how to make every topics interesting. I love his teaching style.
The class is not necessarily hard, but you do need to be in class, read, and study regularly in order to keep up with the material. Overall, I think the Professor does a great job at explaining the material.
If u attend class and take notes its a good class. The professor was pretty witty and kept us on track
Overall, great teacher. I took notes in his class with my laptop and as long as you take good note and study them, you'll pass the class. Books are not needed in this class.never bought one and made a B+. His grading is diff. Quizes are out of 20, test are out of 100, and final is out of 125. He also give random ExtraCredit which he tell you answers
Methodological instruction approach, related coursework to real life situations, does not take roll, but if you want to pass it is vital that you attend . Cool professor, pretty lenient until you, as a student/class, prove you do not deserve that leniency.
Very thick accent, and pretty rude, did not enjoy class at all!!!!!!
this is my first econ course and i learned alot.
Once you get past his accent he makes very much sense. I followed his lectures and took notes-studied hard-but still made an abysmal grade due to my over thinking the test questions .(he talks about more advanced topics offhandedly; made simple questions seem like trick ones i suppose). He's awfully patient and is willing to help though.
I attended class regularly and received an A. with all the bonus grades he gives if we attend, you can easily make a B with minimal effort.
at all costs, do not take him, he is horrible and mean
He sounds just like Arnold Schwarzenegger!!! like foreal. its a little hard to understand but if you go youll pass and the extra attendance pts really do help. The tests were far from easy. this class just might lower your gpa if your not an eco wiz
Very fair professor. If anything, he gives too much extra credit. Many people failed to show up to class, if you miss the lecture then you SHOULD do bad on the test!
Dr. Ghossoub is a really good teacher. He knows a lot about economics, and uses real life examples. His quizes are fairly easy, but you have to take notes and study. Do not slack off and not study because it will reflect in your grade. if you take notes in class and study you will make an A. GIVES A LOT OF BONUS!!!!! listen to him in class!
This guy really knows how to teach. I bought the textbook but never opened the wrapper. He gives too much bonus point. I didnt think I would be able to get a B after I bombed my second test but his bonus point brought me to an A. If anything hes the perfect professor and his accent isn't bad at all. Must attend class to receive extra credit.
A very good teacher. Very funny as well.
Professor Ghossoub was one of my favorite professors to date. I learned a lot in his lectures and he is very helpful. If you do not understand something he will go back and calmly explain it again in order for you to understand. Especially during these tough times its interesting to see how his class explains a lot of what's going on. Highly recmd!
He is a very good professor. Economics is not my subject and i managed a B. He gives extra credit, but attendance is the key to receiving it. I would recommend this class to anyone who is willing to go to class AND pay attention while there.
he was very helpful and clear in his teaching plus he gave lots of bonus points for attendance!!!!
Great prof gives lots of bonus points. Go to class and you will get an A!!! I highly recommend him:0)
very blunt teacher. will spend most of class time with examples rather than covering a lot of material. take notes. i got an A without the book. lots of extra credit. go to class!
Awesome professor! If you go to class you will surely get an A, gives lots of extra credit and is willing to go out of his way to help you. He has an accent so sit up front and don't be afraid to ask questions. BUT DON'T EVER LET YOUR PHONE RING IN CLASS. If you want to learn and are willing to put in time and effort take him.
Very helpful and must attend class to understand the material. I totally recommend this professor.
Great professor!
HORRIBLE professor. True you don't need your book, but the way he describes things in class is very confusing and he makes the simplest of concepts challenging. I did better when I stopped coming to class than when I showed up. Most of the class failed.
Pretty good. The class was so easy and fun to attend. He gives a lot of extra credit
The class was really interesting since we got to learn alot more about the recession. It wasn't too hard with him, just make sure you do previous quizzes and exams he has posted up on webct, alot of the questions on the tests come from them, and study your notes. I got an A, even with doing an 18hr course load, and minimal effort. He gives ec too.
He is funny and interesting. He has an accent but it is not bad.....unfortunately, his tests ARE IMPOSSIBLE. I study so hard and still bomb them......i would recommend finding a different professor for this course.
horrible teacher dropped the last minute of the semester, waste of time and money, tests are impossible he does have extra credit but its not going to help you very much, dont think he is teaching for next semester so saved you the trouble stay away i have to retake the class with someone else since this class was going to ruin my gpa
I dont know what everyones problem is. Yes, the test are hard but not impossible. This class was both challenging and fun. If you want to learn about economics and laugh a little bit too then this is a professor to take. If you dont put forth any effort and want an easy a then stay away.
Did not take time to prepare notes. Even admitted once that he "spends 2 minutes before class preparing for what (he's) going to talk about". Also impatient. Asked students to ask him questions for help, when one asked about the test, he became frustrated and told them not to ask that kind of question. I had to rely on my book, class was USELESS
just thank you
i learned why the healthcare and banking systems are so messed up. If you attend class, you will learn a lot.
Interesting & funny guy. Lectures can get confusing, but he will explain if you ask questions or go to his office. Tests aren't too difficult if you take notes and study them. Gives LOTS of extra credit! Never used textbook. Very easy to get an A as long as you go to class and put forth minimal effort
He is a horrible teacher. His lectures are completely different from the tests, and his tests are impossible. he does give a lot of extra credit, but if he didnt then no one would pass his class...I was mad and frustrated everytime I left the class because his teaching style is very confusing.
very informative. He gets crazy sometimes but pretty funny. Lots of opportunities to get an A.
Teacher is ok. He is not very clear in his lectures and is hard to understand sometimes. He gives you the opportunity for extra credit which helps with your grades. If you don't go to class you won't understand his tests or quizzes at all. What he lectures is NOTHING like his tests.
If you want to learn economics, take this guy. Let me tell you, dont expect to earn an easy A. His lectures are very fun to listen to and you learn tons of information. However, I found it easier to study from the book for his exams.
Professor Ghossoub is really pasionate about economics, you could really learn alot from his class. He does offer extra credit and attendence is not mandatory and neither is the book. The test is mainly off his lectures so you may want to attend class.
In my 3 years of college, he is the worst professor I've had yet. His lectures are completely incomprehensible and what he writes on the overhead projector is nothing but a scribbled, incoherent mess. I have gone to every class so far and couldn't tell you a single thing we have "learned".
Wow. This is the hardest class I have ever taken. I cannot understand what is going on, and lecture is VERY unclear. He is passionate and funny, but it was REALLY hard for me. I do not suggest him to someone who has never taken economics. If you are taking this as a core requirement, take another prof. :)
His notes are a mess but he gives TONS of extra credit. If you go talk to him he will clarify. He loves Economics and loves teaching. Very Passionate. If you are not interested in eco i suggest another professor though.
Professor Ghossoub is one of the best professors @ UTSA. He knows his information and has much passion about teaching ECONOMICS. Offers extra credit. Attendance is mandatory if you expect to earn an A. Lastly, he doesn't tolerate any talking while teaching or he will throw you out. "Questions, Comments, Clear?"
The worst professor I have had at UTSA His overhead notes are no more than chicken scratch. I would only suggest this class if its your last option and then i would say to hold off to another semester to take someone else. He is extremely rude and in your presentation he will interrupt you multiple times asking ridiculous questions to embarrass you
I usually really like my professors, but this guy was a nightmare. He would lecture on one thing and then test us on another. He would rush through problems and his handwriting was impossible to read. Worst of all he made up his own schedule time and day, so I had his final in the middle of another final. What a nightmare, avoid him at all costs.
Interesting course. The professor, however, lacks professionalism: the dearth of structure and instructional resources are truly inimical for the student's understanding of the material. Dr. Ghoussoub should attend some of the lectures of professors with more experience to gain perspective.
There is no book in his class which makes it hard for me but i think this is typical in these classes after talking to people from other schools. So you need to take good notes otherwise you will not do well. The class is highly technical but very interesting as Dr. Ghossoub emphasizes on the intuition.
He explains things clearly and actually makes you think, which is what college is about. He doesn't tolerate anyone who is unprepared, so ALWAYS bring your quiz forms, Parscores, and a pencil. And DON'T TALK. He WILL kick you out for both reasons. He gives free quizzes when he's late. Don't skip class b/c of those! "Questions? Comments? Good."
Not a hard class at all but he doesnt seem to care bout his students at all. He's one of those professors whose just there for the paycheck. Said the book wasnt needed but then in the middle of the semester referred to reading chapters in the book serval times. If you dont have a interest in Economics already, i wouldnt take him
very informative class. Dr. G covers things very deeply. I have never seen this in my other classes. His exposition of the economy is very interesting. Any questions? any answers?
Not very good at making the concepts clear. Goes off on different subjects every five seconds. Did not make me want to learn the subject, but the TA copied notes down and put them on blackboard which helped. Not recommended unless you really like economics.
This course has historically high drop rate and low passing rate. However Dr. Ghossup was able to explain things rather well without boring us to death. He is extremely helpful when you need him; made everyone feel like we were collegues which was pretty cool IMO.
his grading structure is awesome!! very knowledgeable teacher and makes you interested in economics. i would recommend this professor, but make sure to go to SI, and review your notes. he gives quizzes over lectures and don't miss class bc he will give you pop up extra credit quizzes (freebees)
This class was very straightforward and simple. Dr. Ghossoub is interesting as well as funny. His lectures were easy to understand and this class involved very little math or chart analysis (as compared to high school economics). His TA holds reviews. This class requires minimal studying and no textbook reading unless you're so inclined.
Professor is very rude and dismissive. This class is fairly easy: group project, midterm, and final. You don't even need to come to class but this isn't a core class it's my major I want to learn the material not just pass but he makes everything more complicated than it needs to be. Find a different professor.
Horrible professor. Im an A, B student and i did okay in the class. He is constantly rude and dont bother asking him questions cause he'll just make you look bad. Not helpful at all & would never take him again! Stay away from this professor
I have mixed feelings about this professor. He's very smart and knows what he's talking about. His tests are very confusing and kinda different from what he talks about in class. If you take him, take good notes in class.
Professor Ghossoub knows exactly what he's talking about, however, his handwriting his horrible and he cram a lot of information into each class. Tests are confusing and quizzes are pointless. I would not take this class again.
Worst class ever. Struggling for a B. He has terrible handwriting and an accent hard to understand. He does give out extra credit but it does not compensate for his difficult tests and quizzes. DO NOT TAKE HIM
Overall, it is a very informative course. I like the data and the relevance of the information presented. I wish we did not have to take the quizzes as they are much easier than the exams. He drops the lowest exam grade though.
Dr. Ghossoub has an accent that made it hard to understand him at first. He compensated for his accent by posting notes on Blackboard and providing visual examples while he lectured. I enjoyed the way he demonstrated his passion about the subject he teaches by taking us to Internet sites and applying the lectures to real life situations.
Great professor, he posted notes online and did a review before the test. I took the class because I liked economics and had already taken two more eco classes so I found the class very easy. He will also help if you go to his office hours. I would recommend for anyone wanting to learn and put in the effort.
I do not recommend this professor! He has a very thick accent, making it hard to understand and hand-writing that is very difficult to read. He scribbles his notes on a piece of paper & does not use powerpoint. I attended class everyday and his quizzes and tests were very wordy and difficult to pass, and he does not go off the txtbook.STAY AWAY!!!
Dr. Ghossoub is a very smart man, but can be a little hard to follow. He's also a little rough around the edges and has pretty bad hand writing. Other than that, if you study for the tests and quizes, you should do fine.
I took this course because it was required. I am glad i picked Dr. G as he made me want to learn more about the subject. He also drops the lowest exam grade, which is icing on the cake.
He does extra credit 'attendance' quizzes. If you are there when he gives one, you get 5 extra credit points right off the bat, for a total of 25 throughout the semester. He does test reviews that have extremely similar questions as the ones on the test. He is very approachable, but due to his accent and mannerism, some find him rude.
Best of the best. If you want to learn something useful, take this guy. He is very sharp and inspirational. I was always so eager for the next lecture. The extra credit are just icing on the cake.
Hardest class ever. If it wasn't for the extra 25 points in extra credit from attendance points I would have failed. Tests are difficult and nothing like his quizzes he gives. QLP homework's are fairly easy. He is approachable and helps you a lot if you go see him. Gives you back your tests, homework and quizzes, you just have to go and ask for it.
Class is easy if you read the book and study the slides he puts online. He says he's there to help, but I never had to talk to him. You can get exempt from the final if your five quizzes add up to a grade you're happy with. He gives extra credit quizzes randomly as well.
He's exactly the fair college professor I expect all my other professors to be like. You need to go to every class to understand and take notes whenever he writes stuff down. He does talk at a faster pace. Gives pop quizzes for extra credit on random days. I made C's on the 2 exam, but ended up with an A because of he drops a grade & the bonus pts.
This is a typical college course. Pretty good professor, a bit challenging course. If you don't study or show up to class, you won't perform well. Ghoussoub himself is really strict on cell phones and talking during class. However, he does give extra credit "quizzes" which will practically give you a letter grade if you show up to class everyday.
Definitely my favorite economics professor. He is fun to listen to and he gives tons of extra credit and drops your lowest test grade! His tests are extremely hard though. You have to read alot to do well in this class. I would take him again.
This class is not too hard. Showing up will help your grade, you can get up to 25 extra credit points maximum. You need to study slides for the test to pass. Does not tolerate talking nor cell phones. Go to class for extra credit and to pass! Overall he is a good professor
One of the best professors I had while attending UTSA. Econ has never been a strong point for me but Dr. G does an excellent job of explaining the material. He is one of the few professors I have taken that actually teaches students! I highly recommend him. If only more professors followed his teaching style!!
I really liked his class. It was well organized, tests were straight from notes in class . Gives random quizzes for extra credit which really helps. I would definitely take him again
Professor has an accent & pretty bad handwriting which is unfortunate because he hand writes a ton of notes. there are 3 tests (including the final) & 5 quizzes & 5 extra credit quizzes the test are typically conceptual but there are tidbits he mentions only in lectures. he does allow you to buy an older textbook which is WAY cheaper so thats great
I know nothing about economics, and this class wasn't hard. You don't need the book or myeconlab to understand the material. Quizzes and tests come straight from the slides. Write down everything he writes in class. If you want the extra 25 points added to your overall grade, then go to class everyday. He gives the extra credit quizzes at random.
I liked him. My grade wasn't too good but that's because I didn't try. He honestly is a great professor . He acts all mean but is actually a funny person. And he does call students out a lot .
He's a character! He teaches by giving real world examples and just writes what comes to mind. He doesn't follow his PPT's, so study them on your own time. The tests come from the PPT's. I didnt buy the book, but still got an A because he drops the lowest test grade and gives extra credit if you come to class! Really nice guy! Go to his OH for help.
He is the bomb!! Explains economics really well, if economics is part of your major make sure to take him, he is amazing! Ghossoub gets the class involved, everything was easy to understand because he would use real world examples! Make sure you attend class because he gives quizzes for attendance and that can get you a lot of points!!
this is the best eco teacher ever! this guy makes learning eco fun and gives you a lot of extra credit, he knows his stuff and teaches it in a way that makes since to the average Joe, drops the Lowest test grade so u don't have to take the final if u do good enough, don't buy the book! and show up to every class he makes it fun
I called him the "GOAT" of Economics, but seeing my grade you might ask why I say that. He is VERY lecture heavy but explains everything in real life examples so you understand it. I chose to slack off in this class because I was a cocky freshman who aced Econ in high school. DO NOT do what I did!He gives so much extra credit and is very smart prof
This class is the best Econ class I have taken don't approach it like any other Econ course take him very seriously. He is a hilarious professor who makes lectures interesting and though the exams and quizzes require intense studying if you pace yourself you should be fine lastly make sure you go to class he adds 25 attendance points if you go
Pay attention, study your powerpoints very well, & you should do great! This was my second time taking the class & I regret not taking him the first time I took Eco! Great Professor with no doubt!
His exams and quizzes are hard and different from slides
He has an accent that can be difficult to understand for a while. You dont need the book, but you have to study a lot to pass his tests. Only grades are quizzes and tests, occasional extra credit.
Mr Ghossoub is the best prof i had at utsa so far. made a boring subject interesting. gives quizes for xtra credits so go to class.
Hands down best professor I have had yet! He makes you excited to learn about economics, and turns the driest topics into the most interesting and mind melting subject. He is challenging, but if you are ready to learn and just go to class and pay attention you will make an easy A.
Always go to class and you'll also receive extra credit for it. Always have a scantron with you for pop extra credit quizzes. Actually cares about his students and gives good advice. Very lecture heavy, but has useful powerpoints. You do have to work for this class but he provides all the material you need for the tests.
one homework grade and that's all! I didn't take notes and listened to his lecture but I got an A+ just by reading the ppt.
TAKE HIM! Tons of extra credit for showing up and all tests are based off Powerpoint slides.
Pros - 5 free extra credits given out to those who show up to class throughout the semester and no attendance Cons - Heavy accent, takes a couple of weeks to get used to, listen carefully Worst handwriting ever, taking notes in this class is difficult. Never got used to the handwriting. Also very rude at times, doesn't seem he care for teaching.
Take him, by far the best professor i had for economics. He is very passionate about what he teaches which makes him go crazy sometimes in class. Got an A by just studying the slides. Gives tons of extra credit.
TAKE THIS DUDE!! He's funny, really cares, gives so much EC, drops your lowest test and all test questions come from the powerpoints which he posts online.
Macro Theory was good for the most part. Dr. Ghossoub taught us valuable things to know about the U.S. economy that would benefit many policymakers. However, his tests were inconsistent in difficulty and in terms of style. This inconsistency is the reason I feel I got a B in this class rather than an A. Other than that, this class was great.
Hes the absolute worst Econ professor at UTSA. You cant read his handwriting even if you sit in the front. His accent is strong and difficult to pick up. His tests are all based on the PowerPoints. His lectures will bore you to sleep. Avoid this man if you want a good grade.
He is a great professor , really knows what he is talking about. If you want to pass his quizzes and test you have to READ and STUDY his powerpoints. He does offer extra credit quizzes, but does not announce them so make sure to come to class although attendance is not mandatory. Cons would be, he does not follow his powerpoints in lectures.
He is a great teacher; probably the best economics teacher i've ever had! Gives extra credits, practice tests, explains topics very well, relates it to the real world, is helpful during office hours and funny. ALWAYS go to class, DO the practice tests, READ the slides and you'll do good! Only cons are that his handwriting isnt always clear.
Solid professor all around, very easy going and understanding. I took his 4-week course over the summer and was astonished at the day-and-night contrast between micro and macro. Daily lectures helped with learning the material and he recorded all of them for flexibility. Clearly he has a passion for teaching, a rarity nowadays.
To succeed in his class, you have to put in the work!!! If he sees that you are trying, he will help you in whatever way he can. His lectures are very detailed and can sometimes be information overload, but if you read the chapter before, or even just look at the slides before class, his explanations will make much more sense. Great professor.
Does not recommend, in this class there is no assignment that can raise your grade, and there is only quizzes and tests and they are all in class. he gives some extra creadits trough the semester but it is not enough.
I would recommend using the studying over the lectures slides, practice quizes , and ask question.
He is a really good professor. Although the class is hard, the tests are hard and attendance is important if you want to pass. He does grade on a curve and gives tons of extra credit which helps a lot. Be ready to study.
Thinks his class is the only thing in your life. Doesn't explain things, just says you should have learned this in undergrad. If you're sick and miss a class/exam, he wants a letter from a doctor, even if you didn't need to go to one. Can't understand his handwriting, and can't ask to specify because he will call you out. Tries to micromanage you.
Professor Ghossoub is passionate and engaging. Lots of extra credit opportunities through class participation and online resources. Leveraging Unstuck AI along with the provided slides helped me succeed in the course.
An excellent professor the only problem is that he only has 3 grades, and those are 3 exams.
His lectures just go over the slides that he posts online, you get proctored for the weekly quizzes that can ONLY be taken the days that they are due, practice tests he gives out do help a lot. Class is going to take up a large amount of your time if you want a A
Pretty easy class, and this professor was very communicative, but grading is heavily reliant on quizzes. Grades also start at 0% and you have to work your way up to a letter grade, so get ready to ace every assignment for the first week.
This professor mainly relied on you already knowing a lot about economics, even before you took the class. Quizzes had only a few questions so it was pretty easy to fail, and they were 25% of your grade. Pretty forgiving as he dropped the lowest grade for quizzes and exams. DO THE ATTENDANCE QUIZZES, they will save your grade.
He's a very good professor. He offers extra credit and curves some assignments, which has helped me a lot. He provides great feedback and is always willing to explain anything when students have questions. You definitely need to show up to class to pass because he covers a lot in each lecture. Overall, I'm very glad I had him as a professor.
