He is so good!! The best math teacher I have ever met!! I like him a lot~!
He can repeat himself a lot or breeze right through a lecture. However, he's very willing to spend extra time to help. Very little homework.
Cool guy and pretty laid back.he is always in his office to anwser questions. his tests are acctually pretty easy since he gives out practice tests.
Took calculus I with him. Way too easy ....easier than it should be....one problem...I think he is not suited for teaching calculus..he had some trouble getting ideas accross to us. but since he made it easy ..i guess that's fine with most students. ;) and Oh..he is always available if u need extra help.
HE IS REALLY GOOD!! DO TAKE HIM! he's really helpful in everything, little homework, not a mean teacher. He's actually a funny guy, but people just don't really respect him because he's being too nice. You can ask him anything you like, really smart guy!
SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO AWSOME! he is vary clear at explaining things, and verry funny. his style of teaching whent well with my learning style. he does like to chalange students more than some of the other teachers, but i liked it and would deffinatly take him again.
did a great job!
Really makes sure that you learn what he is teaching. gives really hard work but helps you figure it out. Really fun teacher.
Out of all the math teachers I've taken in my schooling life, he was definitely my favorite. Easy to understand, fair, and was able to get me to a level where I felt really confident in Pre-Calc I. Though not really his fault, we ended up fairly far behind in the material and struggled initially with Logs in the next class. Great overall.
Nice guy, easy quizzes, and tests. Somewhat of a language barrier at times, but he will clarify if you ask.
An all-around nice guy that cares about his students learning and succeeding in his class. Tests and quizzes are fair and I liked how he used technology in his class to show us examples. He lets you drop your lowest quiz and replace your lowest exam score.
This guy is a very skilled teacher. He's nice. He is passionate about his job - he wants you to learn, and he'll do everything he can to make sure you do. He engages his students, so the class is not a bore. The right amount of homework. 5 stars all around.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND any class with Jasso. He is definitely one of the best math teachers I have ever had. He really cares about his students passing and knows his math. He goes to the MLC often and allows students in for help during and out of office hours. He has a funny sense of humor and engages students in class :D
He's a really nice guy however he speaks WAY too fast for me. He is fair and reasonable however I had a very hard time understanding him.
The complaint about him talking very fast is true. Put your head down for a second and you'll miss something. BUT the saving grace is that I pestered him about the things I did not understand and he went back over it willingly. He has a way of keeping you engaged, playing the fool to see if you are paying attention. Very good teacher.
Edgar is a really friendly and energetic teacher. His lectures move *very* fast. The organizational structure of his classes is pretty lacking at times. He could be a much better professor if he provided structured hand outs or online pdf's of all of the concepts he goes over in class to reinforce his lecture. Hard to know what to study at times.
He cares for his students and wants them to succeed. Do the assigned homework problems and attend class if you want to earn an A. Plan on spending at least 1-2 hrs Mon-Fri for an A grade.
Edgar made Stats fun. He is a little bizarre in his mannerisms but overall a very good teacher. I did not care or taking Stats at all, but he made it fun. Do your work and come to class and you will have no problem getting an A. I did the class over summer and it was a little stressful but follow the above advice and u will be fine. Have FUN
3rd quarter with Jasso! I never get tired of this guy, he really has patience to answer all my questions. I really enjoy attending his lectures because they are informative and entertaining. Attend class, do the hw and go to his office hours if you want an A :)
I personally did not like having Edgar as a math teacher at all. I think he's a really nice guy but just didn't like him as a teacher. My class started off the quarter slowly so now towards the end of the quarter he is rushing through some really difficult material. As if he doesn't talk/teach fast enough as it is. I like the way he grades though.
Makes information more complicated than it actually is.
I dropped out of another math 151 because the teacher was confusing me. And this time around with Jasso it's so easy to understand, The idea's are relayed well, as they can be (we are talking about hard ideas so put your time in). In my book his is the best teacher I have ever had..
excellent teacher; really cares about his students; has a tendency to speak too fast but if you ask him to repeat something he will and quite thoroughly. Listens to class understanding of material and is dedicated to making sure you get every chance you can to get the grade you want. But you have to ask questions and do the work.
He's really funny!! Lecture is clear, class is active. But no make up exam, many quizzes, lowest quiz score can be dropped. Overall I like him!
A lot of my friends say he can't teach Linear Algebra well. I disagree. If this class is hard, it's because of Linear Algebra, not the teacher. He's funny and helpful. He provides proofs to theorems he give. Kinda slow replying to email. As long as you do the assigned homework and read the book, you'll be fine. Forming study group recommended.
Heard a lot of negativity about this guy, but I liked him. He's full of math energy. His quizzes/tests were challenging, which really forced my understanding. If you bother to go to his office hours he will always help you--even if it's in another math class. Hint: always read the sections before class, hard to follow along otherwise.
This guy is all over the place. He discusses way too many different concepts in the first five minutes class each week so it is really hard to follow. I suggest taking MR GAUL for anything you can. This guy is really funny though.
I personally did not enjoy this class, though with math different teaching styles work for different people. The teacher often assigned extra work the day before it was due without necessarily notifying the students (if you didn't check the site you were screwed). He didn't always teach what the work specifically covered, and I didn't learn much.
This was my favorite class last quarter...i highly recommend him as a teacher. He knows what he is talking about and if you are confused he always tries to help. And he also helps his students pass his class...if you dont pass thats because you didnt try not cuz of the teacher or the class.
I took this class over the summer (Statistics), not easy, but pretty fair stuff. He was always available for questions, either in his office, or via email. Weekly quizzes, but they help you prepare for the midterms. Overall a great experience.
Took this hybrid. I started out liking Edgar, though he has a confused style of teaching. With time passing by, I was disappointed by his overall attitude. Posted homework late, misplaced quizzes = gave me the feeling he didn't really care. I have to work to earn the money to pay for school. Posting homework 1 day before the deadline is not right!
I agree with the previous post, Edgar started off okay, but he was very inconsistent in posting homework, grades, and assignments on time. He talks way too fast and goes off on tangents, which makes it extremely difficult to follow his lectures. Towards the end I just gave up and taught myself by reading the textbook.
Not your normal boring math professor. The lectures was energetic but still informative. The random tangents were like mini calculus breaks. The hw wasn't graded but it was prep for the weekly quiz. Tests were straight forward covering the concepts you studied (ie. no tricky stuff). Overall, good class. I would take him again.
Edgar is a frustrating teacher to learn from. He's a very fair, but lethargic grader. He's an entertaining, yet rapid and disjointed lecturer. The more complex the material the worse he is as a teacher. His online communication skills are bad, but he's wonderful help one on one. Learn through the book and do lots of practice problems to do well.
Great teacher. Has nice legible hand writing. He's funny in a goofy kind of way. Very helpful in and out of class for help with assignments. Sometimes lectures are all over the place, but the math part is very clear cut and easy to follow. He gets excited for math and goes into tangents to proof math formulas/theories.
Too many assignments. Tough grader. Exams are unruly and too difficult. Has a bit of an attitude - very off-putting. I DO NOT recommend this professor.
A great instructor that provides a lot of extra credit and clear feedback. He's tough, but really puts in an effort for all students to succeed. Its even better if you happen to love baseball, as many of his examples involve the spot. Attendance is mostly mandatory given the percentage that his quizzes count towards your final grade.
Edgar spends too much time on certain chapters and then makes his tests very hard because he thinks you have a full understanding of the concept. He is a really picky grader and he grades a subset of even questions from the homework. He seems like a nice guy but I wouldn't bet on him for success in a math class.
Do take these online courses whatever you do. Plethora of assignments that are worth nothing if you don't do well on exams. Exams are not that hard but clarity on what to study for is outrageous. Worst educational experience of my life.
Precalculus is hard, Edgar does not make it easier. He teaches all levels of math, so he says he knows what will be important in the next classes and emphasizes comprehension over calculations. This may make it harder for some, but for others it works great. If you are afraid of really trying to understand math, don't take him.
He is very unclear when giving lectures, tests are based on concepts that were barely touched in class (if at all), and is unhelpful if you visit during office hours, just directs you to Math Help Center if you need help with the actual math.
He's wonderful! If you study well and pay attention durring the class you can get 4.0 I recommend his class and appreciate his style of teaching.
From the very first day of his class, I knew this would be twice as difficult to learn. Edgar often would come unprepared to teach his students, by not having reviewed what was on his old power point presentations ahead of time or updating them. I just read through the book, he just confuses us with his spastic lectures. He is all over the place!
Like any other math class, it makes a huge difference if you come to class, engage, and read book. Jasso picked an online textbook for us to save money. Jasso is very knowledgable and great at answering questions and engaging the classroom. At first I had a hard time understanding him because he speaks fast and he's ESL, but then I got used to it.
I thought that there would be SOME type of enriching material or help associated with this course. I was wrong. Study the text on your own, do hw, period. I will say that Professor Jasso is responsive to questions and very helpful when you are standing in front of him, however it seems that he does not have enough time to devote to an online class.
very very very easy class. get your 4.0.
Good class, he has high expectations and his hw/quizzes may be seem hard compared to other instructor's, but I think he is fair and I ended up learning a lot. He has a good sense of humor and makes the class time go fast. I would definiteley take another class with him
He isn't able to explain statistical concepts in a way students can understand. Presents material in a very confused way. Tough grader for a poor lecturer. Impossible to follow his reasoning and the language barrier doesn't help. You have to teach yourself. He only touches the surface on topics, but expect you to know really well on test
Nice teacher, but very harsh on grading. Really hard to understand. Sometimes can get rude, especially when passing back papers. If there's anything I learned from this class, it's how to try to figure out what he said. Whenever he says something, I had to sit there for 5m trying to make out what he said everytime he speaks.
Makes exams/quizzes so long students cant finish. They just give up results: .5 of class got a "C." 2 long/hard Google Sheets Asmts; tutors/profs couldn't solve. Talks so fast, u can't follow. Will cut off students when asking ?s. He's unprepared for class, many errors in Powerpoint Slides. Gives HMWk the NiteB4 due when could've given earlier..
One of the worst learning experiences I've ever had. There is not enough time to finish quizzes/exams.
Edgar talks fast. (but you'll get use to it) You must participate in the inclass activity because he gives huge extra credit!!!!! Make sure to silent your phone, or you'll lose the extra credit that you earned!
Must complete optional HW to receive a good grade. Found him a bit condescending and a horrible lecturer - he talks fast and gets lost within his own solutions. Grades exams inconsistently between students. Weekly quizzes are open notes but only 4 questions, so if you miss 1 Q you get a 75%. North has better options, only take him if you have to
The final exam felt like a mental-workout, in a good way. The problems were weird, but doable. He made us actually LEARN things during the final! Lectures were weird, no textbook, "some" lecture notes, but if you came to class and followed along you could do well. He knows what he is doing, and clearly knows his math. I'm gonna miss this class.
I truly cannot I believe I paid $600 to have someone give me math problems I didnt know how to solve and tell me to figure it out. Im honestly in awe. No lessons, no lectures, simply: itll come to you! Just think about it!
Perhaps there is a huge difference between having him in an online class vs a regular class. He clearly knows his math, and he seems to enjoy teaching. That said, you need to overpass his weird mannerisms, after that, and if you are willing to ask questions, he really is there to help you understand.
Easy to get 4.0 if you go to class everyday and follow his lectures. Test reviews will prepared for the tests, no hard questions if you study hard before the tests. Mr. Jasso will answer your questions. I really enjoy his math class.
Edgar is passionate about math and therefore very excitable. He can get distracted in class time and will go off on tangents (no pun intended). If you are upfront about having trouble with an area or problem though, he will drop everything to help you understand it. He is a fair grader. Writes his own problems, so you cannot just google answers.
Edgar Jasso is definitely one of, if not the best teacher I've ever had. He's hilarious and he's very understanding of students' capabilities and adjust accordingly. If you have a chance to take his class, take it and you won't regret it. I will definitely pick him again if I can.
H e is a wonderful teacher and make you deserve your grade. i got 4.0 in his class and the only thing that i didn't like is he got tons of homework too many homework
Excellent teacher for vector calculus! Lectures were great, with clear explanations of divergence and curl that made the core theorems understandable. Filled in a few gaps in my knowledge from Calc III as well. Tests and home quizzes were straightforward, and generous partial credit awarded. 5% 'extra credit' awarded for participation, too.
not a good teacher
I took his math116 online this summer, and literally you have to study on your own, and do assignments on you own. There is no additional handout for preparing exams, the only material you can practice is MyMATHLab. One of the worst instructor I've had at North.
Avoid at all costs. Took this course online. Absolutely no guidance or slides. No lectures at all. Honestly the poorest excuse for an online course I have ever taken. I have taken 3 other online math classes and this class was the biggest waste of money and time I have ever experienced. I feel bad for North Seattle College.
Avoid taking his class. Don't waste your money. He's bad professor. He's not going to teach you at all. And you will have to many Quizzes, Test online and testes on campus for all chapters.
Very bad class, horrible textbook, riddled with mistakes and typos
Edgar grades based on what you learn. He gives 4 office hours a week, option to increase quiz scores by getting the concepts on exams correct, points on exams for showing work & a cumulative final with extra optional problems from each exam to replace 1 exam grade. By studying what I got wrong, I was able to get a 94% in class after a 69% on exam 1
If you miss class, you miss a ton of content. Had Jasso for Calc 3 and he was much better than most math teachers. Very animated and personable, seems very excited about what he's teaching. Sometimes he is a bit hard to follow but for the most part things end up making sense. Tests can be a bit hard and he moves through content really fast.
He didn't use a textbook. He wanted you to just use the lectures to understand everything. Very heavily taught the theory which is cool, but I am not going to be a mathematician and I need to see lots of problems worked out on the board to learn. Overall a bad experience and I would avoid.
Sucks at explanations. Says a lot of nothing. Do not take him if looking for a hands on helpful teacher
Jasso is rude to his students and extremely dismissive when you ask questions. His online course did not provide enough materials to learn the subject and he is not helpful when you need it. The class wasn't that hard but because of his attitude I will never take a class by him again.
This teacher creates arbitrary barriers to your learning. He focuses your attention on discussion boards online and assignments which are often irrelevant to the current material being taught. I felt like he was creating distractions the entire quarter. All the time he makes you spend on busy work you could be using to learn the concepts.
Vector calculus is not an easy class and I took it in summer, I would take his classes again. Even though he didn't like the way I solved problems but graded me fair. his tests are heavy in Certain way but his lectures are awesome that if you make notes, you can get above 3.5.
Does not give feedback.
I have never had a worse professor in my entire life. I cannot stress how truly horrible of a teacher Professor Jasso is. If he is the only teacher for the math class you need to take, you would be better off taking the quarter off or transferring to a different college to take the class. He is VERY unclear and is way too big for his britches.
He doesn't explain anything very well. The 'notes' he gives us make no sense and he can be rude to students. He said on an exam that you can take it at any time of the day but then makes it due at 12:20 pm. I feel like I haven't really learned any math this quarter.
Needs an explanation on how x + x x. For a college level course I thought I was past having to show work for simple addition that can be done in your head. Lectures (online bcause of COVID) are a total waste of your time, however the 'notes' provided for outside of lectures are just as unhelpful. Save yourself the time and take a different class.
IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A GOOD MATH PROFESSOR, OH MY GOODNESS PLEASE TAKE HIS CLASSES!!! He is a nice person if you don't understand a material he is willing to explain it to you thoroughly. He is chill. If I needed math class, I would ALWAYS take his classes, if possible.
Listen; If I score a 70% on an exam and median grade is below that, maybe you should rethink how you teach your class?!? The homework is basic level and totally easy to get if you learn the techniques. But then on quizzes and exams its riddled with trick questions and things he never explains how to do. why? Why do that? 10/10 do not recommend.
Mr. Jasso is one of those teachers who doesn't like when you don't do work his way, even if it's correct. HW is easy and gives you all the necessary info for quizzes. I went to maybe 5 lectures and passed with an A. However, he's a total bully and has no issue being rude to students for no reason. Easy class, exceptionally difficult teacher.
The way his class is structured is very confusing and unnecessary. This is supposed to be an easy class but he made it way more complicated than it needed to be. He is not sympathetic and is not flexible. I won't take another class taught by him again.
This is the worst professor I've ever had. He is unprofessional, rude & replies to your emails like text messages. I submitted my written work a half hour after the exam ended (even though he already had my final answers, which were correct) and he gave me a zero. During COVID when students have to navigate online school & deal w/ internet issues.
Unlike any other class I've taken. He is rude and uncomplying with anything you say, you must do as he says is his motto. I do my extreme best within each class to not only get a good grade, but learn the material in process. He could care less about our problems outside of class to not consider accommodating any requests given.
Pros: - Not a bad teacher if he tries. Cons: - He doesn't seem to try. - Always forgets to post homework and quizzes (Have to email him every week to post for that week) - Most of the time he takes a very long time to respond to emails. - Overall, I would not take the class again unless he becomes more actively involved with helping the students.
Extremely rude to students and inconsiderate of different levels of understanding. Is very savvy with the online course format, but would not recommend taking if you don't already know the material somewhat well. Homework is easy but he often tests on things not covered in class. Can be very condescending and dismissive.
One of the worst math teachers I've taken. Lectures were unhelpful to say the least, jumped around the content as if we already learned it. Takes forever to reply to emails and says he'd get back to you and then never will, so don't try that. Problems on tests never seen before, and overall just unhelpful, not available and doesn't care about class
I had the misfortune of taking a second class with Edgar. The lectures were unhelpful and hard to follow. I could write a book about the things that went wrong with this class. But he never posts on time, he changed the weight of our grades on week 7, and he takes forever to write back on emails UNLESS he is trying to be condescending. Horrid.
Edgar know his math and clearly is excited to teach. Live zoom meetings were interesting, clear and well planned. I can imagine that in a live classroom he wold be awesome. Exams and quizzes are straight forward if you did the hw ( and use the online forums or office hours to clarify questions). Hope to catch an in-person class with him later.
On average took well over 1.5months to grade quizzes which is what I was most frustrated by. I like him as a person but the lectures are super hard to follow- lots of tangents and the conversational nature didn't work for me (although it did work well for others). Quizzes were timed and it's a very short amount of time which gave me anxiety.
His class was just okay. His lectures weren't very engaging and often times felt longer than needed. They were all posted on Canvas and most HW assignments came with short, two or three minute videos you could watch to learn how to solve the problems. He wasn't great teaching wise but his class was set up very well and clearly.
Fun, eclectic lectures. Can be a bit off topic and conversational at times, but I really liked that style personally, though others might not. Only thing is I wish the quizzes and tests had more questions. Average quiz had like 4 questions, and test had about 8, so missing one is pretty heavy ding with how heavily they are weighted in the grade.
Grading was fine
Spends more time lecturing about what we don't need to know for this class but will for future classes. When asked for help on homework will often times just say you'll figure it out or you should already know how to do it. Also gives homework that was never discussed in class lectures, videos provided, or online textbook.
Although there were many "Ahah" moments in this class, I found the class and material hard to navigate. More often than not, inquiries about exam dates and times or the class were left unanswered and sometimes the material in quizzes/exams felt like they weren't touched upon in the online lectures. Still, I appreciate the valuable knowledge gained.
My Calc I professor is Edgar, and I've never really had trouble with math before his class. But lately, I've had to rely on YouTube videos to understand what he's teaching. Honestly, the best Calc I class I've had so far was yesterday—only because he wasn't there, and we had a substitute.
Did not respond to any of my emails, when people in my class unanimously said they were struggling he was unhelpful and unkind with his response
Very disorganized, poor lectures with often incorrect solutions on examples, compounding confusion on new concepts. Lectures would be much better if he could simply slow down, and breath. Slow to grade assignments, often not found during posted office hours, assignments inconsistent with syllabus. Was gone several days. The sub, Alan, was better.
Had major issues with timing. Concepts were rushed over and lectures were either not posted or minimal (5-25 min/week in a hybrid course). Homework was not posted in a timely manner with him frequently admitting to forgetting to post. The syllabus was not followed. Frequently absent, unavailable during posted office hours and rude to students.
I took this class after taking AP calc in high school (passing with an A+), this prof was extremely confusing in his lectures & would contradict himself often. He did not explain concepts well and would just expect you to already know things. He would often get the problems wrong and rely on the class to help. Overall disrespectful toward students.
he is generally very confusing and hard to follow in lectures. he doesn't answer questions well, and is mostly unavailable outside of classes. He will forget to mention specific things in lectures that are fundamental, and then be confused and upset with the class when they make mistakes that he himself makes in class.
Easy grading! Smart guy, doesn't seem to care about teaching at all though. Seemed more interested in politics than stats. I couldn't sit through his lectures, so I ended up skipping class to watch related YouTube videos and using GenAI for further explanation. Honestly, the course was so boring it made me question if school was even right for me.
Jasso often comes across like he doesn't fully understand the material he's teaching. And he regularly failed to update canvas assignments for days at a time, putting the entire class behind schedule. The class was really a holistic experience in educational incompetence. I didn't learn a thing.
He would talk so fast and since he has an accent I couldn't understand him, he could speak slower for people to understand but that's just not what he does, I sit 2nd row from the front and I still could not understand him. Tough grader on tests and quizzes, gives very unintuitive homework and told us to only learn from him and not online. He sucks
He did not post any homework for the final and would expect us to go into it only with videos on a new topic that he just taught, he doesn't post any practice exams or any slides for you to review later so showing up is super important. He also doesn't answer emails at all.
Edgar is a very fair professor. He grades very easy (albeit late) and the course is weighted in such a way that even if you were to bomb every test you'll still pass. Don't expect him to hold your hand; you'll have to do some learning outside the classroom. He's not the worst.
Probably one of the most disorganized classes I've ever had the displeasure of taking. A big aspect of the class was doing proofs, which we had almost no guidance for. Don't expect grades back in any reasonable time. Online videos were ok, i could not follow in-person lectures. If you have any other options, i would advise against taking Edgar.
He is a good teacher he may not work for each person, especially with his philosophy of teaching. Please find a good teacher, and if he works for you, keep doing it. You may find other teachers who are better for your situation, but he is a perfectly good teacher.
Actually the worst teacher here at North. Got a good grade because I had to use so much outside sources and videos to teach me. The live lectures he gives are not understandable because he's so quiet, and is so off topic. The dean of north seattle needs to take a look and re evaluate their teachers, because Edgar you don't deserve to be a teacher.
This class was fairly disorganized. Grade is equally weighted from 2 midterms, final, python assignments and problem sets, with 5% added at the end. These were assigned throughout the quarter but were not graded until the day before grades released. Poor at responding to emails and somewhat hard to follow in class.
This teacher was great! Very chill and helped everyone get the best grade possible. Study as much as possible for the tests though, since they make up a lot of the grade! I always struggle with math but did great in his class.
