he is an awesome teacher, knows how to keep you interested and we studied interesting stuff in his class, but when it comes down to it dont slack off, he gets mad when you dont care and dont try. if you dont understand just ask he is very open to helping everyone and always speak whatever you are thinking. he likes that
I love Eddie! He was an extremely helpful teacher, he puts his time and effort into helping all his students i definately recommend him to anyone!
Professor Muniz is great! He helps and wants you to learn! He makes himself available to help you in anyway! I have also taken him for 67 and I am hopeing to take his 1A. He expects a lot but it is very possible to get an A in his class. All you have to do is show up and do the work.
good teacher, very young with passionate.
Eddie is a cool teacher, but he is a hard grader. He does help you when you need the help. I got an A, but it was hard as hell
Eddie was by far the coolest teacher ive gotten. He is soo funny and has funny crazy stories to tell. He's youg so you can relate to him. Hes extremely helpful, takes the time to go through everyones papers before they are turned in. RECOMEND!
Muniz is hands down the most down to earth young english professor here. He is extremely helpful and can relate to all ages. makes the class understandable and has students participate in groups to break down the work. Helps anyone and everyone especially when you're in having trouble with something. Class is extremely interesting! Recommended!
Professor Muniz is awesome! His classes make you think, he's challenging and HE'S HOT!
Eddie is by far one of the best professors here at Mt. SAC. He always makes time for his students, and he wants to ensure you are prepared for the following classes. I had him for English 68, and although I do not have him for English 1A, I still ask him for advice.
really hard but worth the trouble
This professor is awesome love him took him for 68 passed with a B and now taking him for 1A hes just an awesome guy to get help from
Great teacher! You have to work for your grade but you do learn a lot. He really cares about his students and will always help you if you try. If you want to get the most out of an english class and also have fun at the same time, take him! I also really sucked at writing and after taking his class I'm much more confident at it.
Eddie is a great professor! He is hard and expects a lot but he is the first one to help if you need it. If someone does not pass his class it is simply cause they did not put in an effort. He gives you a lot of ideas and will help you come up with your own without you knowing it. If you want an easy A dont take him!! Great prof!
Eddy is really interesting. We're learning about Post Modernism and he does not fail at teaching. We learn something new every day. Those who complain about the material are either dumb or just plain lazy. I recommend him if you want to learn something and enjoy at the same time.
Excellent instructor. Worked with people and encouraged better writing by offering students a better grade if they utilize their resources. Graded fairly
his class is a bit difficult however he makes it really interesting, its a very fun class but you do have to work hard for your grade.
He is one of the best teacher's I have taken in Mt. Sac...Trust me you will have fun in his class and actually learn something in his class..i want to take him again, so i am waiting for him to teach 1C...TAKE HIM!
1A is a difficult course that requires a great teacher like Edgar Muniz for you to succeed. He maybe intimidating at first, but he can become your tutor and even your friend. Even if you don't get an ?A? you can be sure that Muniz will give you the tools to succeed in any other course. I wish there were more teachers like him.
Very picky teacher. Although you do have fun in his class, he just makes writing essays THAT much harder. Did not enjoy his class at all.
He's very interesting. He easily relates to his class and hes not serious like all the other teachers but is serious about how we work and he wants us to do well. He's bery helpful and makes spare time outside of school to help us. I recommend him! Im going to take him again for 1A. He isnt easy but a good teacher :]
He is a great professor and extremely helpful.
Extremely cool and interesting class. Incorporated film into the class which made it really fun. Lot's of group and class discussions. He is funny and a down to earth kind of teacher. Highly recommend. I got an A.
Cant believe i like Shakespeare now. Eddie is really interesting and energetic in class. Its the only class i look forward to. he's very hard though but hes helpful....and sexy in a nerdy way.
He is honestly one of the most helpful teachers I've had. He's helped me improve so much on my writing and helps me actually bring out more of my ideas to my paper and think more critically. He is not an easy teacher, but he is one who will really help you at improving your writing. I wish he taught 1C. I've had him for both 68 and 1A. Hes good :]
Super hard professor! By the third week, we had less than half the class left and most people were already failing! He is helpful but he is really really reallly HARD!
Eddie is best professor I've ever taken. He is definitely not an easy professor but I found his class extremely interesting and always looked forward to going. He goes above and beyond to help students and make himself available to everyone. He is easy-going, hilarious, and VERY attractive. Highly recommended!!
Probably the best professor ever. Definitely not easy, but the class is fun and you'll learn a lot. He's always willing to help and he's really dedicated....and he's really good looking too.
The class itself is a bit hard but Edgar will help you. He really dedicates time to his students either it is through email, before class or after class. The group discussions are very helpful and fun. They make you see a different point of view. Plus, Eddie has some funny stories of his own too!
Seriously one of the best teacher i've ever had. I learned so much and i would take his class again. It was overwhelming at first but he helps you out so much and is approachable. definitely recommend
very helpful, he is very willing to try to be there for you and help you do well!! i highly recommand him
Really hard professor. Unless you know all the rules and structures about grammar, I DO NOT SUGGEST HIM. He said, "I grade like a 1C teacher to prepare you." Uhmm well... I am not taking 1C am I? GRADE LIKE A 1A TEACHER.
He is such a hilarious professor, I'm an entertainer myself but boy did this guy make me feel like a junior. He really knows his stuff, and he really cares about his students. He's a tough grader, but that's because he expects a lot from his students. He's also a nice caring guy once you get to know him. I really recommend him.
If you're looking for an easy A, DO NOT TAKE HIM. He will challenge you but help you with study sessions, prefers email and meetups, and very approachable. Eddie can be intimidating at first but, shows that he cares about what he does. If you want to improve your writing, take this professor. Thanks to him, I enjoy reading more. Highly recommended.
Disclaimer:non-native speaker +engineering major. One of the best professors on campus, but this class is serious. He tried to help me on my writing, and I also put lots of efforts in this class. The end I got a B, and I used to have 4.0 IMO, this class is harder than Physics 4A~4C. Highly recommended if you want to learn but not for easy A
really inspiring and caring guy. he really pushes you to do better, so yes, the class is hard, but aceable. gives you an intro into postmodernism, which i found to be really interesting. encourages group discussions so that everyone knows each other. really enjoyed this class. recommend to those who actually want to learn.
Best teacher/class I've ever had period. His class is very demanding so if you want an easy A don't even bother, but very rewarding and interesting. Not for lazy people. Got an A.
His energy and passion make the class fun. He's a hard grader, but he'll help you with every draft. Always meets with students. He just needs to see effort from you. IF YOU HATE GRAMMAR, DON'T TAKE HIM!!!
He is possibly the best professor I've ever had.
The BEST English professor I've ever had. He is very tough and will stress you out but he is extremely helpful and very dedicated to making sure his students understand and meet his requirements. It's a very challenging and difficult class so always be PREPARED. Got a B, both semesters.
Eddie is awesome he really does make you work for that A. If you''re not willing to work hard for your grade then this class is not for you at all. He is hilarious. Eddie is also EXTREMELY helpful overall.
Tough but good pro
He is by far my favorite professor I've had. Extremely helpful and hilarious. I hate English classes, but he made it fun to attend classes. He sets up Starbucks meeting to help his students with their papers, who does that for free?! This class is NOT an easy A at all, you better work your butt off for it. Best English professor :D Got an A
A challenge worth taking. He's extremely helpful and may seem intimidating at first, but once you get to know him, you'll have no trouble approaching him. He's very funny and energetic. Also, he gives really interesting lectures, and makes you a better writer. Picks great books and movies, so you can have essays you'll enjoy writing.
Very tough grader! He expects a lot from you, but he makes time to work with you and to explain. His classes are fun,and he doesn't take himself too seriously. Very approachable. YOU MUST READ and be okay with being called on to give your opinion.
Eddie is the best professor I have ever had. The other reviews are right, he will make you work for your grade. If you can survive, you will leave his class with way more than you wanted to know. (In a good way). Very helpful. Really cares about his students. I'm a total grammar Nazi after leaving his class lol.
Eddie is one of the greatest professors I have had at Mt. SAC. He is a extremely hard grader and makes you work for an A. Honestly, let's just put it this way, Eddie made me become an English major.
Eddie is a hard grader, but he tells you exactly what you need to do to improve your writing; furthermore, he will work with you on anything you need help with. This class is for people who are serious about improving their writing. He usually tries to make textbooks easy on your pocket and he makes the class enjoyable.
Eddie is one of the toughest teachers i've had but also one of the greatest. He dedicated his life to help his students as long as their willing to go half way. If you really want to learn and become a better writter take him! He might be hard, but at the end of the semester you wont regret it!
I hated English and grammar growing up, and in fact, I hated it until I took Eddie's class. He completely changed my outlook on the subject, and as hard as the class was, I found myself actually loving it and wanting to learn more. Although he's extremely challenging, you will undoubtedly learn from him. I owe a lot of my success to his teachings.
NOt sure he cares about being liked at all! he's always busy, he's rude if he thinks your not trying, and he never gave me anything higher than a C+. TOUGH grader and expects you to read too much. we have other classes and he can be sarcastic. I took him expecting he makes more time for students. As an A student in high school, I expected more..
Eddie is tough and fair, you better be ready to work for that A. He will give you feedback and he will be honest!
Eddie is one of the best professors I've had since going to college. He really cares about the student and their success. If you don't plan on doing the work than don't take him. If you put in the work so will he. He's a great teacher and always has interesting topics! I passed 68 with a C and took 1A in the summer and passed with an A. Great prof!
I wouldn't take this professor again. He gives an outline of what you did right and wrong on your papers, but it isn't very helpful; when comparing it to other classmates, it had mostly the same comments. Don't waste your time, avoid this professor.
Best English professor I've ever had. There is a lot of reading. He is very down to earth and approachable person. I wish I took him sooner. I became a much better writer in his class. The work load is intense and he expects a lot from, but he is always there for his students. GO to his office hours it helps tremendously.
He's a really helpful guy and he's hilarious! But he ain't an easy professor at all. He really encourages you to challenge yourself, so the papers WILL be stressful, but he will see to it that you finish strong :) If you attend all his classes and complete all his assignments, you'll survive the class with at least a C. Just don't get lazy!
Eddie is literally the most dedicated professor I have ever seen, He tells you from the start that you are going to have to work hard for your grade BUT he is also willing to answer any and every question you have to ensure you are on track. If anything he lays out a crystal clear idea of what he expects from you. He was always uplifting.
Apparently my review from the other day got removed, along with other bad reviews being removed. I wouldn't be surprised if the professor is having them removed. Do not take this professor. He prides himself on how many people drop his class, ask anyone who took his class. His feedback is not helpful and incoherent. Avoid at all costs, terrible.
Many group discussions, there are optional outside-class meetings to review papers before turning it in. Over 10 people dropped out of my class before the W date. It's a really difficult class and you will most likely get a C, even after many paper revisions.
Eddie is among the few of my favorite professors at Mt SAC. Keep in mind I took this class in the 6 week semester, and I got a B. He is difficult and you WILL work for your grade, but this is a college level English class that you are taking in college so don't expect it to be a walk in the park. He's a great guy/prof I HIGHLY recommend.
Edgar Muniz can be very condescending and rude to students, he thinks a lot of feedback good feedback and usually will throw a bunch of ramblings at students thinking it will help. He doesn't take criticism very well either, I showed him a contradiction in his feedback and he flat out ignored me. I can't recommend this professor to anyone, avoid.
BE READY TO FOLLOW DIRECTIONS HE IS TOUGH BUT FAIR! VERY SARCASTIC BUT DON'T LET THAT SCARE YOU! HE LOVES HIS JOB!
He is TOUGH AND FAIR and he is super cool and edgy! He turned me into a English Major and now I love Shakespeare even though I hated it before! He will be honest with HIS critiques! I used to be A Math major but it was too hard. HIS lessons were so complex and UNIQUE! Best professor on CAMPUS he is really TALL too! like 6'2. WE call him Edgy Eddie!
Eddie is a very tough grader but if you are willing to put in the effort he's always there to help you! Took him in summer and attended the tutoring sessions for extra credit. ! This class isn't a easy A. You will have to put in a lot of work. Favorite thing about his class were the class discussions. He isn't a boring guy and pretty funny
I have taken this professor for not only 1A but also 68. He is an AWESOME professor and can be very helpful when it comes to papers. You NEED to work hard for your grade but if you put in the effort, you will definitely pass. He has an AWESOME sense of humor and makes class super interesting. WOULD DEFINITELY RECOMMEND!!
I need to break it down before I end up writing an essay. I hated English class until I took him. Because of him, I'm great with grammar since I used to just put a comma wherever I thought fit. I took him for Eng: 67, 68, 1A. If you do the reading, then you will be fine if he calls on you. He's passionate with a great personality. Best Professor.
Best professor ever. I ended up loving grammar. My writing improved 100% thanks to Mrs. Muñiz. His lectures are funny and interesting. This professor cares about his students' learning. If you want to learn how to write, he is your best option.
He has been so far one of the best Professors I've had in Mt. SAC. He is very strict on the way he evaluates students, but he will prepared you academically and critically for it. He is accessible to help students out of school time also his lectures are very interesting, definitely, you will never fall asleep in his classes.
Super chill
He will prepare you for English 1A.
Edgar Muniz, is one of the best professors I've had at Mt. Sac. He comes off as sarcastic and a bit of a hard ass, but he is extremely knowledgeable. Yes, he assigns somewhat long readings, but it's college, it's more beneficial if anything. His lectures are more like big discussions, like talking to friend. Overall, he is a great professor!
Eddie is the best professor at Mt sac. The class is not a walk in the park, but you will learn. I learned so much in just one semester,so I went on to take other classes with him too and he's been fantastic. I recommend him to anyone. He's so inspiring and makes the class so enjoyable that he made me want to become an english major.
Eddie is an amazing teacher. I learned to be a better writer, enjoy reading, and be better at my grammar. He took his time to help you become a better writer and got you thinking in depth about stories. I'm sad I discovered him for english 1C I wish i could've taken in from 1A-1C. One of my favorite classes and would take it over and over again.
Eddie is a freaking awesome professor for all serious English majors and great thinkers alike. All of the class meetings consist of group discussions that delve deep into the material and its surrounding concepts. I highly recommend him! Beware, he is a grammar buff, but offers plenty of opportunities to see him before turning in your papers.
Hard grader. Expect too much.
Too much reading. Too much grammar. Too much depressing philosophy. Too much feedback. Some of us have lives. He's helpful enough but his standards are difficult. Never gave grade updates and that's all I cared about. Expects you to keep points.
Eddie truly put effort into his lectures. Three essays and a small final. He had reading quizzes every week. Total stickler for grammar, but if you visit him during office hours he will work with you. He loved different interpretations of the literature. He made this class one of the best I've taken at MtSac. His sense of humor is entertaining.
Puts a lot of effort into his lectures, and he actually has us read great books unlike other professors who do minimal reading. Very straight forward, clear on topics, and grades hard with great feedback. School is not supposed to be a safe space it is supposed to challenge you academically. Best English classes to take at Mt. Sac.
he is straightforward and gives great examples on how to do your work, he will tell you what you need to fix on your essays and grammar to make it better
Eddie is AMAZING! His passion for english and film is really inspiring. He is the man of the myth! Most of his books that he gave us to read are really a great book. TAKE HIM! Eventhough he is a tough grader, you will learn A LOT from him, not only english but also some other cool things!!
He is way too difficult. Avoid!
The group discussions are so helpful! Even if you're shy and don't want to speak up, make sure you listen to your classmates' comments and write down EVERYTHING they say, because all the info will help you while writing your papers. I hated Eng, but Eddie made me love it through his intellectual and fun way of teaching, + funny & sarcastic guy!
I have nothing but good things to say about Eddie. His 1A is difficult, but ultimately very worth it! He makes the class interesting, encourages insightful group discussions, and is overall just a fun character to be around. If you put in the effort and take the time to learn from your mistakes, you'll pass!
extremely good professor. It is not an easy class, he wants the reading done and papers with effort, but he makes himself available if needed. He genuinely cares about his students (if you don't act like a brat).
Would highly recommend this professor to everyone. Only take this course if you want to learn something. Otherwise, take someone who will hand you the A. Yes, you have to work for your grade, but welcome to college.
I was terrified to take 1C because Engl was my worst subject, but after taking this class, I can easily say I have no regrets. It was by far the best class I have taken here at SAC. Yes, you have to read and write essays and work for your grade, but because of this class, I love English and have decided to major in it. Everyone should take him.
Discussions are very interesting. Even for those who are shy, they will enjoy this class because the professor makes the environment friendly and easy to speak in class. Gives amazing feedback makes class so much fun and enjoyable. Also give great life advice!
This had to easily be my favorite class here at sac. The books we read were really interesting, and the discussions were mind blowing. I recommend him to anyone who is willing to put in the effort to learn. I feel much better prepared for the university level.
he is one of my favorites professors. he will tell you tell you things straight up about your work, but it totally helps, i took him for my first fall term and his feedback helped me get better on my essays. i would totally take him again! you wont regret it
Knows his stuffs. Probably the best grammar teacher there is. Some say he is a hard grader but teaches the right stuffs. I took his summer class. The workload is tough especially since I'm bad at writing. I'd say there are many articles to be read, expect a quiz for every reading assignment. Very approachable, flexible, and friendly to students.
Super dope professor, keeps the environment interesting & never a boring lecture. His lectures are funny yet understandable! Dont usually rate professors but felt the need to rate Eddie!
Eddie is an amazing professor that truly cares about his students. Although he is a tough grader, he provides office hours where you can talk to him about your essay. He also incorporates psychology, philosophy, and real world knowledge in his lecture material. There is a lot of discussion based classes which prepares you for honors classes!
Eddie is such a wonderful and humorous guy. Easily the best professor I have ever had at Mt. Sac. DO NOT TAKE HIM UNLESS YOU'RE WILLING TO WORK. Very tough grader but I can honestly say he has made my writing a lot stronger. Always attend office hours and go to every class meeting, discussions are very helpful. Definitely not an easy A.
You will mess up your GPA if you take this class. Apparently he writes his own reviews, good and bad? Not surprising. If he doesn't like how you write, no amount of effort and "help" will get you a good grade. Worst professor I've ever had, hilariously arrogant.
A MUST take for any hardworking student who sincerely wants to learn English. Eddie defies the usual "Easy-A" method of teaching by challenging his students to ACTUALLY write better and develop strong critical analysis. Interactive classroom discussions, philosophy based lectures, and page-turner novels make up for a fun and enjoyable semester.
His teaching is astounding! Gets you really thinking and the class is tied with psychoanalytics, which is really interesting. The material is so intruigning and makes you wanna analysize everything. Grades tough but makes you work for your grade, but thats college. GO TO THE OFFICE HOURS. Waiting to take ENGL 1C with him :)
I've taken Eddie for 2 classes now, and they've been some of my favorites because of all the material he provides. If you don't like literature or reading one bit, do not take his class because it is structured around it. He gives no exceptions when it comes to readings/quizzes/essays, so yes, he expects you to put a lot of effort into the class.
Great professor, would take again.
If you're offended by swearing, be warned Eddie swears like crazy. Eddie makes the material fun, and his class discussion questions really help clarify things in reading if you don't understand it. Paper topics can be fun, he let us choose our own if we wanted. He is a pretty tough grader, but he does give great feedback.
He's not a hard grader, but he's an honest grader. He cares about his students becoming better readers, writers, and thinkers, and that's the point of college no? Seriously, one of the best professors I've had at this school. If you're not serious about showing up to class and trying, take someone else. He makes you work for the grade.
His focus on expanding your mind
He is a great professor but he is a tough grader, gives really good feedback attend each class because every lecture he gives is critical in getting information for your essays, Hilarious, sarcastic, if you can't take a joke you will definitely not like his class.
At first, I was pretty intimidated at what his expectations were in the class. As the class went on, I began to love the class and couldn't wait to hear and discuss in the class discussions. He is a tough grader, but also very understanding. Eddie puts a smile on everyone's faces. He may be tough, but he's is definitely here to help you succeed.
I got Eddie by accident & at first introduction was very intimidated by him. He gave 4 essays but go to his office hours during the week essays are due. His lectures are great and doesn't sugarcoat anything. The quizzes were not hard as long as you read the text. He genuinely cares about the students in his own way. Stick with him.
eddie is a blunt person but he is a good teacher. His topics are a mix of psychoanalytical with philosophy. It is raw dark and mentally screwed up and mind blowing in that class. it is a major challenge. but a very good person who cares about his students. He dumbs everything down by using ghetto examples
AMAZING professor! Explains concepts and material very well, eddie will help you understand material if you are lost. Honest grader so give this class your all. Definitely struggled a little but one of the best professors i've ever had. His humor makes the class better.
If you hate English then you SHOULD take his class. Not just b/c you will learn but b/c you will actually look forward to going! The books are FREE! He prints them out for you! Every lecture will make you feel like you're stepping into the Twilight Zone! He is not as hard as others say! Follow his instructions and you will do well. Best class ever!
he aight
on everything i love, he do be opening up my mind
He's great, 10/10.
Okay so he's such a great teacher but he's very tough esp transitioning from hs english to college english. the reason i wont take him again is because he's too tough to balance for the classes i plan to take, but he's definitely doable if you put in the effort. textbooks are just reading books. he is not an easy A.
Eddie is big brained individual who taught me a lot in his class, but it took effort to get an A. If you prefer knowledge over GPA he is the perfect professor for you.
Best professor I have met in years. He is very passionate about teaching and it is clear that he only wants to give you the tools to succeed. I have learned much in his class through extreme criticism and failures. I would definitely take this class again in the pursuit of knowledge. He is very open about many topics and is very knowledgeable.
To get an A you must get all of your papers checked by the writing center, must have great grammar, and know the basic elements of how to construct a paper. I am not nearly as smart than the others kids that got A's. However, I put the max effort, and I was confident. If you want an A just work hard, don not let Muniz get to you, and be confident.
This guy is cool. You have to read in order to do well on the essays, but that's a give in. He gives provides you with everything you need to read. He gives thorough feedback to succeed if you attend his office hours. He welcomes your ideas and appreciates feedback in discussions. He's straight up so don't be a pansy and you'll like this class.
If you want an easy A don't sign up for Eddie's classes. If you want to actually learn how to write and structure an essay and are willing to put in work, take Eddie's classes. I was bitter towards the middle of the semester thinking I'd get a low grade, but I kicked it into gear and ended well. USE HIS RESOURCES.
He is a great professor who wants his students to be better writers. He challenges his students to rise to greatness. That being said, he does not give a lot of feedback on his assignments, this is just my experience from taking him online during the Spring 2020 COVID semester. His readings will take you out of your comfort zone!
Without a doubt my FAVORITE professor, EVER. He is strict and expects a lot from his students because he sincerely wants them to excel!
Okay, Eddie wants to see you become a better writer but HE IS A REALLY HARD GRADER. LIKE REALLY HARD, super strict on formats. He's honestly harsh and rude but I think he means well. He is nice one on one tho. Makes you read/watch stupid stories that he thinks are meaningful but I honestly don't think so.
Eddie can be harsh but hes straightforward about the guidelines for his assignments. it was harder taking him online but he makes the time. You just have to work for the grade you want. he can be harsher if he sees youre not really trying. Great topics for discussion though! Always interesting. His books can be shocking but they got us reading tbh!
Good professor but not a great teacher, especially not online-wise. Won't respond to any emails whatsoever. Didn't follow scheduled classtime during the change to online courses and aside from the non-response to emails, that heavily impacted my grade as well.
Eddie is a great professor & his class was engaging despite being online! The readings/films are intriguing. He has plenty of office hours when essays are due & responds to emails quickly. Getting an A is very possible if you do the reading & attend class. Took 16 units & found the class to be manageable. Highly recommend taking a class with Eddie!
great professor. great interesting class. definitely alot of work and he is a tough grader but he does do alot alot of feedback. if youre not ready to put in work this class is nkt for u
Fair but tough grader lots of reading. Not going to lie, really interesting discussions, mindblowing books but online eith this dude is to hard
Hated him. He's pretty rude and won't reply to your email if he doesn't feel like it. His class wasn't too bad, but he's not very understanding. He often does not give much feedback on essays as well. However, he does give good lectures, and you need to work hard to do well in his class.
Bad teacher. Assumed the worst in his students. Taught very little about writing. Never talked about critical thinking. Lectured mainly on freudian psychoanalytics as if it were a fact (its not even a science). Missed classes with no warning. Randomly assigned papers. No feedback on papers and essays. Random office hours. Will ruin your GPA. Avoid
get ready to read and think and question! We read Marx, Jung, Morrison, Atwood and other works, and this class blew my mind. Eddie made himself available for feedback all the time. Even over the weekends. He grades fairly and provides a lot of feedback. I looked forward to this class. He also wrote me an amazing letter of recommendation!
Eddie the best English teacher I've ever had. But, this wasn't an easy class. Grades will be comprised of almost only essays. MAKE SURE to watch all his recorded lectures, go to class, and his office hours to CHECK YOUR THESIS! Take this class if you genuinely want to learn how to write essays but be prepared to be read and take notes!
Little/no feed back (taught little on how to correct writing), every response is use Purdue Owl. Changed office hours, changed time and days of class as opposed to what posted when registering.
Eddie cares about you passing with the grade you want, but he is also a super tough, honest grader and if you dont give effort or have trouble writing, you wont get the grades you want. He helps a lot during his office hours and answers emails and ultimately I barely got an A by .08%. NOT an easy A but will make you a better writer.
The works of literature you will read in this class is *really* weird compared to a traditional English class. This makes this course very interesting and the ideas discussed very fascinating. The reading quizzes are easy if you read. Essay writing is critical in those course, as he expects a lot from you.
The books you read are lengthy. A little bit more of a tough grader but gives a lot of feedback. Not as many assignments as the other 1C classes I tried taking.
Summer 2021Online Reading is lengthy but pace yourself and dont procrastinate & you should be solid. Gives good feedback. Take the time to attend class and office hours if helps needed. Take initiative to do research for your papers since he requires secondary sources. Integrates lots of psychoanalysis! Elona DahiTAhelps tremendously!
Honestly great professor I really liked him and honestly would take him again. Although before you turn in a paper CHECK FOR GRAMMAR and silly mistakes he is a tough grader. The only reason I got a C is because Im trash at English but if you take him I guarantee he will 100% make you a better writer. Great lectures gives good ideas for papers.
My personal experience was having him during an online course and he was very catering to the class. Classes were always on time and he would always record his zoom lectures and email them just in case anyone may have missed something. He is a very tough grader if you are shooting for an A+ but if you put in work, a B is very achievable.
Edgar Muniz is one of my favorite professors because I actually feel inspired to learn and try. If you are the type to slack off or not pay attention, this is not the professor for you. He pushes you to be the best you can be. His discussions sometimes feel like therapy and the concepts you learn are pretty deep. Just show that you care.
Hes good, but only take his class if youre willing to do work passionately and that meets his expectations, hes funny. I recommend.
I loved Eddie's class! The stuff he had us read and watch was really interesting, intense, and I enjoyed it a lot. Basically all of your grade is the essays. Get his help if you need it and take his feedback seriously. Don't be scared to participate--just be ready to explain. A lot of in depth analysis. Put in the effort and you'll do well.
This class made me cry because everything was SO DEEP. Initially, I really hated the class and Eddie but at the end of the semester I did learn and improve on my writing. He def grades differently than any other LIT/Writing course I've taken. If you take this course just be ready to WORK for your grade :)
I took Muniz for both English 1A and 1C and I absolutely love his class!! He is a hard grader so you have to put in work in your essays, you won't pass by doing it last minute. however, go to his office hours!!! I can't stress that enough, he gives great feedback and will help you improve. 1000/10 recommend. super funny too!
He's my favorite professor! I would advise you not to save anything for the last minute. I would start outlines and readings early so I could receive more feedback during office hours. I got an A. He works w your writing style by helping improve it! 10/10 for honors classes and am taking again. Attendance not required, but there are daily quizzes.
This class was pure therapy. Eddie loves his students and his job and really pushes you to improve. Go to office hours and participate in discussions. It's really easy to have fun with this class and if you work hard you'll do well. You're not getting out of this without a fundamental worldview shift. You WILL be learning even if you don't like it.
I loved Eddie! He's an amazing teacher and a great person. If you're the type of person who just wants an easy A I do not recommend you take Eddie, but if you actually want to get something out of an english course Eddie is the best professor there is.
Eddie is an amazing teacher! He provides all texts for the class and all of the material and discussions were very enlightening and interesting. Go to his office hours and put work into your essays and I promise you will get the grade you deserve and come out being a better writer. He's a great guy, funny too!
Do not take this class if you truly aren't ready to read or improve in your writing or even learn. (Make sure you are mentally stable for this class.) This class was one of the best but also the hardest I have taken because he is a tough grader. I love him but this class was too much for my mental health that it burned me out further.
If you aren't willing to work for your grade, don't take Eddie. He warned us, "If you want an easy A, take one of my colleagues," and I stand by that. If you go to his Office Hours and engage during discussions, you'll improve in leaps and bounds - I definitely did. He can be unorganized, but he's hilarious and smarter than you think. Good luck!
I came into this class ready to improve my writing abilities. I came out of this class dejected, frustrated and exhausted. His feedback is unclear and he never would get back to me when I asked for more critiques on my paper. He's a great person but not a good professor. -5/10
As a person, he's an alright dude Not a good communicator at all. An extremely tough grader who didn't provide useful feedback. Very passive aggressive. Even if the class content is interesting, I'd skip taking his class unless you're mentally stable bc he can be very frustrating
Eddie was excellent with feedback and very clear in his grading. He made a lot of time for office hours, and the books were always interesting and provocative. He will not hold your hand! and expects you to carry your own weight in the class. Definitely a challenging class, but I never learned so much. I looked forward to discussions and readings.
Despite getting a C, I learned a lot. Reading quizzes every week and 5 essays total. Each essay he requires 5 or more pages. If you participate in discussions he'll remember you and take that into consideration when grading. Lots of reading and watching movies. He says what is on his mind and some people don't like that but entertaining class.
Reading material provided by him. Pay lots of attention to class discussions (will need them for essays). Essays worth lots and tough grader but sometimes has office hours that's helpful.TA Sidney extremely helpful use him. Sometimes disturbing/eye opening topics but interesting. Must participate. Mentally exhausted after the class but learned lots
best professor. I learned and read a lot. Buncha lazy haters on here. Eddie is just not a handholder and he'll tell you that on day 1. He was always available outside of class to help. just don't take him if you're too sensitive or if you're lazy or want an easy pass.
He is SUPER passive-aggressive which makes communicating with him difficult. He is heavily into erotic literature which can be too much sometimes. Not a good professor if you want to learn and improve your writing choose someone else.
Our semester was heavy focus on the Uncanny and the psychology of Horror. Lots of freaky books and films. A LOT OF READING AND ANALYZING. If he can tell you don't care or do the readings, he won't bother with you. Reading quizzes are major part of your grade.
I can confidently say that Eddie is the best professor I have ever had. His class taught me critical thinking, the books we had to read were very interesting and the professor makes you really think hard and analyze books, movies, etc. The class is a lot of reading, he is a tough grader, but I can genuinely say I learned how to properly write
I would only recommend Eddie if you want a lot of constructive criticism on your paper. However I would say that he has helped me improve my writing. He also prints out all the books we read so you don't have to spend anything on this class. His class is also heavily group discussion based and there's a quiz on the reading every class.
Prof. Muniz is absolutely the best professor I have ever had. He's the college equivalent of your chill, funny, high school teacher. I highly recommend taking his class. You'll absolutely benefit and learn to write better essays and read more analytically. His class isn't tough, but it definitely takes effort. You won't regret taking his class.
Professor Muniz (Eddie), is a professor who is not afraid to express his feeling about your work. Although it may not seem the best, it truly the best and only way I was able to learn how to write a better paper.
Edgar's class was overall good. Even though attendance wasn't mandatory, he would give quizzes based on the readings. So if you missed the quiz you couldn't make it up. He was a tough grader when it came to papers so beware. This class is passible but if you don't put the work in you will definitely fail.
His grading criteria is clear and reflects what he wants from your paper. I recommend if you want to get better at writing, I definitely saw an improvement. Enter with the mentality that your writing will get picked apart. Books/ films selections were dark but interesting. Not for the faint of heart. Or slackers.
Very impartial when it comes to grading. You write 3-4 essays, and you'll read 3 books for the whole semester, and that's the biggest percentage of your grade. He's very transparent and no-nonsense. Unless you're a writing prodigy, you WILL receive constructive criticism. If you go to his office hours, show up, and pay attention you'll do fine.
He prides himself in being a very difficult teacher. Like bro, you can still be a great professor without creating so much stress and anxiety for your students. If you question him, he gets mad. If you don't idolize him, he doesn't have any interest in helping you. He acts like he's the smartest person in the room. He isn't.
Eddie is a tough but rewarding professor. His class will challenge you, but if you engage with the material and utilize resources like office hours and Unstuck ai, you can come out a stronger writer. Expect to work hard, but the payoff is worth it.
Do not believe what you see, all of the 5/5 reviews are lies. He is a very tough teacher and he prides himself in being difficult. I recommend that you find a different professor, his readings are very graphic and horror. He grades your essays like he has a grudge against you. Take my advice and do not take this guy.
He is only good if you plan to be a English major, the content was amazing in lecture and Socratic discussions. He grades you like it's a honors class ,but without the benefit of it being honors. On his first essay, I spent multiple days writing my essay only to end up with a C. As someone who passed physics 1a with a B, Muniz is too hard for a GE
Great prof ijust took him at the wrong time. Eddy has standards but he works with you. He teaches interesting stuff ,books and movies and I hate to read. Alot of dark humanity, racial political stuff. Go to his office hours.! !! Bunchof haters on here. If you been out of school for a long time, hes going to love you. Just try that that's all. Read
Good challenge, but very rewarding experience. Eddie is a professor who won't spoon feed any answers or philosophy, he guides the class to find their own perspective and the supporting points that go with it. Also make sure to be on time, there are no make up quizzes and they are given in the very beginning of class.
He's so shady, he emailed me asking me to resubmit a paper then claimed when I resubmitted that it was late and failed me for it…and then his email was deleted, not knowing I had already taken a picture of it before he did that. Pre-warning you'll be on the verge of reporting him to the dean if you take him.
This professor is great! He can be challenging but he provides good feedback on how to improve your writing. You will read a lot, but he provides all books. Just don't slack or miss any quizzes, as quizzes can't be made up. His class is passable, as he offers extra credit opportunities and office hours where you can receive extra support. Take him!
You will read A LOT, and will be quizzed on the assigned readings/chapters the following class day. We watched 3 movies and wrote 4 essays (the last being 5 pages w/ 2 secondary sources). When/if he misses class, he gives credit for the missed quiz. He gives a lot of criticism, but it can be used to improve. Overall, very relaxed and sage.
He expects students who are in first semester English 1A (beginning) to go from learning the basics to professional writer in one semester. English Comp. 1A is misleading because he has neither the patience nor temperament to teach beginners, he was curt and dismissive . Do yourself a solid and avoid this fast talking, impatient teacher
He's a tough grader, and not in an encouraging way. His grading causes a lot of unwanted anxiety. It wasn't fair or necessary especially because it was English 1A. He's hard to get a vibe from. Sometimes he was really cool and other times he was cold and standoffish. He didn't seem to have patience for us.
Book choices are top tier. Pretty chill professor. Pay attention in class and participate in discussions and you'll get good ideas for your essays. Essays are a difficult but use the resources like office hours and writing center and you'll do good. Prepares you for higher level of writing.
He's an awesome sauce teacher, I used to hate english. I got a C in my AP lit class, but got an A in this class. He made me love english again with discussions, our class loved him. you will read a lot and his essays weren't that hard if you learn that he absolutely loves crazy ideas and concepts early on.I promise you, you'll love his teaching.
READING QUIZ EVERY DAY!!! If you are having trouble reading, do not take this class. Trust me, you have to read a lot and have discussions with your classmates feels like a book club. I do not recommend it unless you like reading. Honestly, better off taking an English class online.
Do yourself a favor: DONT TAKE HIS CLASS
Hard to communicate with and a hard grader. Expects you to become a professional English writer
The class is 5 essays, participation and lots of reading. After every assigned reading there's a quiz. Almost everyday after the reading there's discussions in small groups he assigns and you guys talk about the readings then do it as a class. The readings are really interesting but he is kind of a hard grader. His TA helped me keep a good grade.
