Very good instruction. Hard critiques, but you end up learning more by doing assignments over, and over and over and over again. Honesty can be seen as an asset or a threat and in her case honesty is her asset and some may be threatened by that.

Edie was extremely nice and down to earth, but you definitely have to be self-motivated for this class. There wasn't too much going on throughout the semester. Edie is an EXCELLENT instructor. I learned more in one of her online classes than I did in three live classes at school. She is very attentive and gives out her personal email and her HOME phone number to call if you have questions. She is the best teacher ever. For half the semester I thought this teacher was a dude.I thought "edie" was "eddie." Whatever, it was a good class.I didn't think it was too easy esp. for a beginner like me.It was good that she gave us enough time to do each assignment & she didn't take her sweet ass time answering my questions, like other profs I've had. Outdoor portraiture online class. This was a pretty intense class and a lot of work. The professor is kind of picky in grading and I had to redo some assignments but overall I thought it was a good class and by the end, even I was impressed with my work. She's tough, but I'd take her again if there was a outdoor portrait II class.

It's been 27 years since I've taken a class and I was petrified, especially because it was online, which I'm not good at. But Dr. Edie was great. She spent alot of time helping me. This is a great class for beginners, and Dr. Edie is a top notch instructor. I'm taking two classes with her next semester and really looking forward to it.

Great class. Very technical. The best part about it was speaking with the prof on the side. She was full of fun, cheeky conversation but most of all she gave solid advice about the real world. I learned as much from her on the phone as I did in class assignments. Loved her, loved the class.

One of the worst classes ever. To be fair, I did learn about taking more advanced pictures with a better camera than just a phone camera. Very poor at giving feedback, took over 30 days to grade assignments. Never got graded on finals. Took a total of maybe 15 pictures for turn in.

This class was very artistic. My favorites assignments were where you got to use alot of self expression and the ones with the really "out there" special effects turned out pretty insane.

This class seemed to be on the back burner for the instructor.Several large gaps in assignments.Sat for a couple of weeks with no new assignments. Not many picture taking assignments. Not much feedback.Last 4 assignments were never even graded, but I ended up with an official grade posted. Was excited for this class, but ended up disappointed.

She was excellent for me. Helped me out when I didn't understand something. Highly recommend her. Work load was never extreme. Gaps allowed for other class work to get done. I learned a lot in her classes also took Pho 198. Loved her.

I didn't learn a single thing. She didn't give any feedback on any assignments. I didn't know if I was doing good or bad. I sent multiple e-mails asking questions and NADA. Somehow I received a final grade. Really wish I could have learned something, I was looking forward to that class.

Creative Portraiture. Most AWESOME class ever! Assignments were pretty challenging but fun and very creative. Black light portrait anyone? Hope she comes up with a part 2 to this class, and soon! I'm ALL in!

Agree w/ other reviewers. Great class. Some assignments were really challenging and at times I got frustrated but in end I was really happy w/ how my work turned out. I had fun, I learned a lot and best of all I got a beautiful portrait of my daughter that I will cherish forever. Prof was very cool and gave honest feedback. I'd love another class!

Very technical class harder than I thought it was going to be with shutter speeds, F-stops, etc. but I learned how to use my camera much better and got some of those cool shots I thought you could only get using photoshop. All in all, worth every penny. Dr. Edie is nice (tough, but nice) and very helpful. I very much liked the class.

The one annoying thing is that she doesn't grade anything in a timely manner. Semesters almost over and I haven't receive one single grade. Rediculous.

Absolutely Awful. She only graded twice the entire semester. I got a 100% for the class. Never got any feedback, therefore, I am quite confident she didn't look at my assignments. Does any art student ever get 100% grade, seriously?!? Wouldn't take a class again with her unless it was the only class left for me to take last semester.

This class didn't require a textbook for this class which was a relief. Dr. Chiarappa is very welcoming, and she's willing to help if there's any questions. The class wasn't too challenging but I still learned a lot. I would definitely recommend taking this professor.

Enjoyed this class. Prof is very helpful, a fair grader, gives extra credit, & I got to work with a pro photographer as an assistant & got extra credit for it because pros call her all the time looking for help & she turns it into a real life situation where you have to interview & show your work. You get "hired" based on that. AWESOME EXPERIENCE!!

Awful, awful, awful. NO feedback given whatsoever. How can you teach a photography class (any class in the arts, really) and NOT give your students helpful criticism? It's pure laziness and it's not okay because I really don't feel prepared to go on and take more photo classes.

If you want an easy A, go for it, but you will learn NOTHING. This class was such a waste of time and money. I used it to build my portfolio, but that is all I got out of it. She doesn't grade often (and always gives 100%), gives NO feedback and doesn't even answer e-mails (in an online class!!). I took the class to learn and was very disappointed.

Edie was the 1st to inspire me in my collegiate profession. She is an amazingly skilled professor who is always available to her students but challenges you to bring your A game. I learned so much about Photography from this course and took every other possible web course she gave as a follow-up. Students willing to work won't regret taking her.

Wouldn't take again

This is the worst class I have ever taken. I have NEVER received feedback! I NEVER know if I am getting "it" or not. I just today (12/12) got grades (no feedback of course) on assignments submitted in September. Dr. Chiarappa is what is wrong with education and I am disappointed in her teaching and in the hostile environment she created.

I loved Dr. Chiarappa. Her grading is pretty easy and all she asks for is no photos related to rodeos, head mounts, or anything related to animal cruelty, which doesn't narrow down photo ideas whatsoever. Just don't do the projects too last minute, as some of the projects are very time consuming, but totally worth it.
