Most boring arrogant prof of my life
Excellent Prof! Her stories are facinating! My 2nd course with her & loving it!
Excellent stories, great well rounded discussions, more structure would be nice
No Comments
knows her information, probably too well to tlk about it without confusing the r
Her lectures are taken directly from the text and she is very unfriendly.
She knows A LO
She was one of the best prof's i had and i am now taking courses taught by her
Two words(if you have her) DROP Course!!!
Students who are considering to take a courese with her, PLEASE BEWARE! She is a hard marker, has boring lectures and is unfriendly.Three things that are cricual for a great prof. She does not have any of them.
very good. Knows her material. Always there to help me.
Would be great if she didn't have to bring her family into everything, and her nationality
Wonderful person who has the knowledge and background to make history interesting for her students. An inspiration! She is the reason why I am a history teacher. Thanks Dr. Bosak!
I LOVE DR.BOSAK!! She is the greatest prof i have had. She will always help and even though she seems intimidating at first, she is actually very helpful. She knows her stuff.. She is a slow marker and digresses a lot but other than that she is perfect!
she is really great. entertaining and informative. Uses boring textbooks, but makes up for it with interesting lectures
An excellent professor. It's a pleasure to take her courses.

Somewhat egoistic. Continually talks about the old country and cooking, but she's a second generation Canaidan? Had her twice...fair marker but always had a snotty nose, wheezed and had runny eyes. Overall - somewhat sickly, and irritating.
Digresses A LOT but it's mostly interesting and she always gets back on track. She definately eeds to give more direction when it comes to term papers and assignments though.

very interesting and very helpful...worldy and sophisticated!!!
Dr. Bosak is a grrat professor , i would recommend her to anyone , although don't be frightened at first cause she can be a little intimidating ! Don't worry you'll get your tests and papers eventually!!
excellent professor!
bravo! excellent prof. entertaining stories, and the lectures were a pleasure to attend and made friday mornings 9:00 much more interesting. no matter how hard core the hangover from breezeway, always managed to make it to her class and stay awake!
amazing prof, had her last year, have her twice next term. She is scaray at first but when she starts telling stories about her trips to eastern europe shes hilarious.
Made me very nervous at first, but once you get to her she is very helpful and understanding. Overall a very good prof.
I thought she was great, always tellling interesting stories.
I loved being in her classes. She was intimidating at first, but I learned so much about the history of Eastern Europe in her classes. She has the best stories!
she expects you to take notes as fast as she reads them out. doesn't tell you the readings before hand, doesn't put anything on the board/overhead or on reserve.
she is a horrible lecturer. she spends most of her time off topic and speeds through any valid points she happens to make. her mid-term was also extremely unfair. the hardest prof to follow i've ever had.
Nice person but terrible lecturer. Notes don't make sense when you read them over. Midterm was ridiculous, focused mostly on stuff she skimmed over in class. Avoid her if you want a good mark in the course.
good prof, a little bit all over the place with in class notes, but if you ask her to clarify something she will
She's Brilliant! I loved her class!! How could you not?
Very interseting person. However, all over the place in class with the notes and can be quite intimidating! If you want to have a final good grade avoid this professor.
She seems very nice and she tells great stories. But she's all over the place with notes. Especially when introducing people. No structure with assigned readings, She told us to buy the book and read it.
needs to slow down and give students time to take notes properly, other than that she was great.
A very accomplsihed woman. BUT, she is a very unfair grader and she speaks too fast making it difficult to take good notes. You do not walk away from a lecture understanding the concepts or events that she is describing. His 2310 will hurt your GPA!
Nice enough, but HORRIBLE at giving lectures. She was all over the place and I really didn't feel the exam gave us a chance to demonstrate what we learned ... the lack of assigned reading was horrible too. Avoid her if you want a good mark!
Too quick when lecturing. HArd to take accurate notes. Assigned classroom was appalling and substandard. Essays took far too long to be graded. (A sign of lack of respect for other's time.) Would not reccomend this course.
Hard grader, unorgainized, unhelpful, unapporachable, too fast (extremely)...RUN AND HIDE...seriously, she is tough and truly doesn't care about you...the course is just not worth it.
The best part about Dr. Bosak is her stories. The worst part about Dr. Bosak is that she seems to throw in a bunch of superfluous information just to make it clear that she knows everything about everything. Often unnecessary and confusing.
I thought Dr. Bosak was very fair and very helpful and she knows a lot about what she is teaching. She was kind of scary my first year but then I had her again and found that she was great. Everyone take not though, it's worth it to go to class!!!
Horribly difficult to understand! She goes off on unrelevant tangents for ages and you don't know when to take notes and when not to. The multiple choice on the midterm were impossible, but the final was marked okay. Don't get her if you can avoid her!
good prof, these other students dont understand that in a 2 or 3000 level course you should know how to take shorthand notes, and know what to write down, also i would like to see you people grade 100 to 150 papers in 2 or 3 weeks.
I find that these other people who have had Bosak , do not understand what she is trying to do. She is given a very small amt of time to teach a course and she does it well. Go talk to her outside of class... she is awesome!
Although it is hard to take notes in her class, I found it very intersting. She is big on mutiple choice and takes pride in them cause they will really fool you up. Overall, she was a good prof. and I would take her again.
she's mean
The hardest time I've ever had taking notes in a course. She mumbles, goes off on tangents and expects too much on midterms. I was looking forward to her, but was disappointed in the end. I wouldn't say don't take a couse with her, you might like her. But I didn't enjoy her at all.
Her story about Ivan the chicken is the best, but sadly it's not on the exam.
ohh my god! I loved history before I went to this class....while she undoubtedly knows her stuff, she has the incredible ability to jump from one century to another in the matter of milliseconds, and without you knowing it! Extremly nice person though. If you can avoid her, it might be best.
I will agree that she is very scattered. However, she is very willing to help anyone that has a problem. The best way to excel in her class is to go prepared. One of the nicest profs in mun!!!!
Not a great prof. Really hard to take notes from because she is all over the place. She goes off topic quite a bit. I will agree she is a smart woman and she like to show off how much she knows. I found her a little arrogant but seemed more than willing to help if you went to her with a problem.
For you first years who think she's mean, she's really not. She's like any other first year prof, she's trying to scare you into doing good. She really enjoys history and makes it interesting, especially when she teaches something that she can personally relate to. Not a bad marker either.
I have done eight courses with her and she is awesome.she is a little hard to follow sometimes but you just have to pay attention.if she knows that you are interested then she will be very helpful.i am finished my history major but i am taking another course from her because i love her
Dr. Bosak is an excellant woman, She knows her material, although she is often all over the place, and sometimes dosen't say some words in English. She is always willing to help with any questions you have, even in her off hours. Very nice prof. But speaks too fast!
A good professor but tends to go off on tangents that last all class. She is a fair marker but sometimes can be a little unclear so ask her questions. Her personal life stories are interesting & make class go by quick. Taking notes can be hard but just read the text. She seems mean but really isn't!
I wanted to take this class sooo bad. So I did, and I learned a lot but she is VERY hard to follow. The fact that we covered 60 years before the start of the text book didn't help matters all that much. She is very intelligent but sometimes hard to follow. And where is my paper??!?
Wow. Knows her stuff, but speaks way too fast to follow. You can't get a word down before she's on to the next idea. I had NO idea how I was doing in the course - she withheld all the marks except the midterm. I still don't have my paper back! And I don't speak Slavic! AHHHH!!!! Fair marker, though.
People say she is a bit of a hard ass, but she really isn't. At first it seems like she is a really hard person to learn off. All you have to do is try you best to follow along in class and READ the text, and she is really good at answering ?'s. Great Prof...Great Marker...i willtake herclass again
Like a serial killer, she's a fascinating person to learn from with her experiences, but don't approach her in her chosen profession. Interesting to listen to, but ridiculously subjective and ambiguous multiple choice exam laid smackdown to my average. That much tuition could've bought groceries.
Her exams are extremely hard. Shes seems to get annoyed when you ask her for help, and assumes because you find something difficult in class you must be skipping class
U think you know the material until u write the midterm exam! THE CLASS AVERAGE WAS 8/25! U like that grade then do the course! The whole class failed except a 'handful' of students.U CAN'T ask her questions b/c she gets annoyed..& told us 'it was the test from hell! She's degree suicide! STAY AWAY
I am a history major and most of my courses for my degree I have done with her. Great teacher, intersting, and always willing to help. For those who think otherwise, she warns you her multiple choice exams are hard and only wants to see her students do good. Always willing to help her students.
She is a very harsh teacher. She isn't appraochable AT ALL. She doesn't seem to care whether or not the students pass or fail, and gets annoyed when you ask her something. She makes you feel kind of stupid when you do ask her something and gives the impression that she's better than you.STAY AWAY
i love dr.bosak.she is the greatest prof ever.i dont know why people think she is unapproachable because i have spent hours in her office just talking about history.if she knows you are passionate she will love you.she is disorganized but arent we all? i have done 8 courses with her and i love her!
I would make this review longer but the statement "stay the **** away" should be enough. what a horrible prof! I guess it wasn't enough.
Dr. Bosak, while knowledgable about history and modern day europe is a total witch. She never gives papers back and gets annoyed at students when they ask questions. As a history major she definetly made me rethink studying history in the long run. Stay far far away!!
I guess there's a difference in people who want to work for their degrees and learn something, and those who want it handed to them. Yes, Dr. Bosak is a hard marker. But she IS approachable and cares for her students. Make the effort and you will be rewarded. She teachs students how to improve as historians.
I did too courses with her. I have not ever gotten a paper back. I have never had any idea what my grades going into the final were. She does know her stuff but likes to go off on tangents. She is always 5 minutes late and keeps you in class late. I got nailed for attendance in another class because it was directly after hers, and i had to run acro
The class should have been called Tangents and Storytelling 101. She strays from topic constantly! I don't care about her travels to Eastern Europe, I want to LEARN about Eastern Europe! I gained absolutely nothing from this course, what a waste of time and money!
Horrible. I love History and this class was the bane of my existance. She was all over the place, always late, gave a multiple choice midterm with a 48% average...that says it all. Stay away.
I wanted to learn about Gypsies.. But basically everything i learned was from the textbook! Bosak tells too many personally stories and is too nationalist about being Slovak. Late and never returns assignments. Unless you want a history course ofthe Slovak Republic.. STAY AWAY!
This woman is the second worst professor in the department. Period. I'd tell you the worst one but I'm afraid to speak his name lest he appear.
I love this woman i never got below an 80 in her courses and i think she is totally interesting if you go in and think oh she is terrible she will be terrible but if you take time to get to know her she is awesome and i know a lot of people who feel the same SHE IS GREAT
Hmmm ... what to say about Dr. Bosak ... she is really nice and understanding, and a really fair marker, but her lectures are hard to follow. I didn't really learn much from her.
Very slack and understanding. Gets off track easily in lectures... but they're always interesting no matter
Very good prof. Fairly easy tests and she's not too hard on the papers either. Her lectures are interesting because she has a lot of personal stories, especially when she talks about areas her family is from. Very understanding prof whose willing to help you out.
Has a sense of humour, knows what she's talking about, teaches more than what's simply in the book. Overall an excellent teacher.
German history was great with her , she made it very easy to follow and really taught me a lot. She does go off on tangents , but they are always interesting. If you go to her for help she is always very understanding and will give you help in any way possible. She's kinda scarey at first , but nothing to worry about . Her bark is worse than her bi
Very nice teacher. She gets sidetracked easily however her stories are interesting to listen to and if you LIKE history can actually be useful in the long run. She makes it obvious what she's going to be looking for test-wise however will occasionally throw curve balls. KNOW your material and GO to classes, she teaches a lot.
Really nice and smart prof, she continuously goes off on tangents and is super hard to follow. The midterm was ridiculous, but the papar topics were good. If you don't want to work don't take this course because it for sure won't be easy. If you want a intelligent prof than take this course because she definatly knows here stuff. Don't be afraid
Had Dr.Bosak for almost every class she teaches. Trust me on this one, the bad reviews of Dr.Bosak are written by lazy students who probably don't go get help.Dr.Bosak is all bark and no bite, if you show interest in improving your grade then she will help you do anything. Also, don't get bored by her stories, if you pay attention they have meaning
Dr. Bosak is a wonderful lady. She is so incredibly helpful, and even if her lectures have a slight tendency to be tangential sometimes, they're interesting, and I have always felt like I was learning something when talking to her. Her grades are really fair, and she will do anything for her students. You really couldn't ask for more.
Dr. Bosak is incredibly interesting. She gives lots of commentary that you don't find in text books. Her mid-term is fair if you read the text and go to class. The paper topics were good and the final was as expected. She's pretty helpful outside of class if you ask the right questions. Overall, an OK course.
I expected alot worse. She was actually not that bad, you'll do way better if you're a dork though.
****. Straight up. Unaccomodating and abrasive, she can easily get on one's bad side. The lectures are ok, except that she's overly focused on her own little backwater part of Europe. For a course that's full of interesting material and should be easy to teach, she really turns you off.
I have to agree with the "all bark, no bite" comment. She has expectations, but I think they're entirely fair. The women is very intelligent and if you have an actual conversation with her, you'll see that she cares very much about her students.
Dr. Bosak was a great prof! she was very helpful whenever I had issues with my paper , she was very easy to approach and she was extremely nice to sit down and have a conversation with :) I have been out of university for over 2 years , and we still stay in contact :)
Condescending and extremely picky. Not clear as to what she wants for assignments, which creates confusion.
O-K prof. Pretty intense...loves History... can be unclear on what she wants... sometimes expects a lot/too much... but helpful. Takes FOREVER to hand back tests/assignments. Some of her marks don't make sense - she can be either a hard or easy marker. Midterm exam was a joke.
This prof was an absolute gem. Between her personal experience in some of the time frames and her noticeable love for History, I was able to get through this course with no problems and became one of the best parts of my day. Recommended to any history major.
I did both her gypsy course and the Holocaust course. I absolutly LOVE Dr. Bosak. She seems scary at first but honestly she cared sooooo much about her students its unreal. Show her some common courtesy and interest and she's an absolute DOLL!
A terrible prof. Her lectures are all over the place, and it is unclear as to what notes you should be taking. She doesn't show what is important or not. Has favorites, and helps them, but isn't very helpful to anyone else. Far too difficult for a 2 level course, and would be more suited to teach at the 4th level. Take her at own risk.
Interesting Prof... she's moody. Her lectures are fast pase you need to keep up. No visual aids (ie. Power points) It's just her talking all class. Demanding. few evaluations. But an interesting person with interesting stories. She is not unwilling to help you out of a bind. Rolls her eyes a lot. definatly not a good idea for a second year.
She's a great prof. All you have to do is show you're interested, and that you're dedicated. She's all bark and her stories in the long run, help. Her stories actually helped me remember the lecture better. Will do ANYTHING to help students who show that they are interested in suceeding in her course. I love her. Would love to do MORE with her.
I can't help but laugh about all the people complaining on here. Dr. Bosák is a wonderful woman who knows her stuff and has the ability to make history interesting. She is one of the best professors I have ever had. Do not be intimidated by negative reviews, she really is amazing! Do your work, show your interest, she is worth it!
this prof is my favorite at mun! shes sweet and helpful. She talks very fast in class but if you ask her to slow down it ll be good. Take her classes !!
This prof isnt the best..Does not use any form of power-point and does not give out any hand outs. It is just her rambling on in class and is very hard to take notes. Most of the things she says are very irrelevant. She is from Slovakia and tends to focus more on her neck of the woods than anywhere else. She is always late and is usually moody...
She's a very sweet woman, but she is an extremely hard marker! There's no notes or powerpoints so you basically better read your book or attempt to copy down her notes. And as the last person said she does talk about irrelevant things..
This prof is good if you know and like history. As i did not know anything it was very hard to follow along. She is defintiely a laugh but she talks fast and is all over the place. But id say she was a fair marker. I forgot much of the dates and specifics about questions on the midterm but still recieved 4/5s. :) not bad.
Dr. Bosak was by far one of my favourite profs at MUN. She was an absolute delight and I enjoyed going to her class. Yes she does veer off topic with a story or two, but they are always interesting and in a way- relevant. Some say that she is a bit tough, but as long as you show up and participate you will learn a lot. A fair marker overall.
She has a rep for being unapproachable but she really isn't. Dr. Bosák will go out of her way to help you as long as you make an effort in her class. She does not know how to do ppt presentations or anything on the overhead - she teaches like she was taught so you'd better take notes! Nothing wrong with that at all. If you don't want to work, drop.
I took a few courses from her. She is great. She doesn't spoon feed you but she is very helpful and understanding if you go to see her. She knows her stuff and expects her students to work hard.
A nice woman but has very unengaging classes. Her lectures are very all over the place and very unclear about essay standards. Doesn't use D2L, slideshow presentations, or give any notes in class. However, she's approachable and willing to give help and essay extensions if she knows you. But I wouldn't recommend taking a class with her.
Dr. Bosak is a very intelligent woman who has lived much of the history she teaches. However, her classes were disorganized and rambling. She expected her students to have all the background knowledge she did, making her class, at times, frustrating. Expectations were often unclear. However, a fair marker and very helpful if you go to her office.
She is wonderful. She has lived the history she teaches. She brings her own great stories to a wonderful course.IF YOU DONT WANT TO WORK DROP. All these people complaining, obviously just got on her bad side. Be nice, and work. Ask questions. Get involved in her class. That's what she likes.
Lectures are disorganized and irrelevant to the course, but she does talk about interesting things and I think she appreciates students who show up to listen to her ramblings. Generous when grading the term paper, exams are based on the textbook and hints are given in class. I'm doing history as a minor, would like to take more courses with Bosak.
Dr. Bosak is an amazing professor! Her lectures might be a little all over the place but that is because she includes stories of her own experiences which helps you understand the situation more than class notes! I would definitely recommend taking a course with her, her stories are amazing and she's more than willing to help her students.
Dr. Bosak is a awesome professor. She expects a lot from her students, but is more than willing to help. She comes off as a tough professor, but is super nice and helpful. I would defiantly recommend taking her class.
I took multiple course with her at the third level and fourth including Roma history, Holocaust and German History. Write down everything she says make a chance to meet her and show her you're interested and you'll be fine. She is 100% reasonable if you approach her respectfully and once the formalities are over, she's great!
she is a really intelligent person who talks about a lot of interesting stuff but for a course it's super inconsistent and I felt really lost all the time. because there are no slides given the textbook really helped me actually have something to follow.
Has a great knowledge of the history she teaches and tells very interesting stories, but her lectures are a mess. She never stays on topic and she rambles on a lot. Doesn't give any notes at all. She speaks and that's it. There was no midterm so went into the final with no idea what to expect. Decent grader and she cares a lot about attendance.
Dr. Bosak's class was the worst experience of my university career. Poor quality and unorganized lectures. Not engaging whatsoever and just sits and mumbles personal digressions that have little relevance to the course. Refrain from taking a course with her.
Dont judge a book by its cover, although stern and direct she is wuite nice, no tests just a term paper with some assignments stemming off that, and the final exam, which she gave us the questions to study for. Her lectures are direct from the book with some explanation, no slides or online notes but everything is in the book or online.
Proffesor provides a solid outline for note readings. Attendance is a must. Easy to approach outside of class, must make an appointment.
I see a lot of first years on here saying "she gives no notes," well I'm sorry, but when she speaks you need to take the notes. She doesn't spoon feed you like high school. She's an excellent prof. If she see's you're putting effort in, she will help you any way she can. Excellent prof. Makes me feel like I'm living the history she speaks about
Dr. Bosak is a very intelligent lady, she has lived through much of the history which she teaches. She is definitely hard to follow, and you will probably feel very lost at times. You MUST take good, quick notes as she talks because she says a lot very quickly But she is very easy to approach out of class, and she will do what she can to help you.
A really great professor who has great stories and is able to make anything she speaks about interesting and easy to understand as she is passionate about what she speaks about. Just make sure you go to class and read the syllabus.
Dr. Bosák is by far my favourite history prof at MUN. The holocaust course was all movies, 2 papers and a critique. She is a very fair marker and will accommodate you as best as she can. She is hilarious and has so much experience in the subjects she teaches. 10/10 recommend taking this course with her. I loved her.
Dr. Bosak is a fantastic professor who cares deeply about her students. Shes known for jumping from one topic to the next, but if you do the readings youll be able to follow along with what shes talking about. For course material shes one of the best for giving all relevant information. Shes fair for grading and easy to reach for questions.
Edita is such a sweet lady. Technology is not her strong suit and she can go off on rants about things that don't have any relevance to the course but all of that is not that big of an obstacle. The course was only three pieces of evaluation, but they were rather straightforward. Get those pencils ready though because you will need to take notes.
Online she was a terrible professor, had awful email etiquette and is extremely rude. The course has only 3 components that count towards your grade, and her lecture consists solely of her speaking no PowerPoint or information to go along with it besides the textbook and a few sparse extra readings.
