Don't take his classes.....spaced out Cal-Berkeley guy
No Comments
very helpful. material boring at times but not always. fair but long essay exams
SubProf. is intelligent, but never gets a clear point across
I highly recommend NOT taking this professor.
Nice guy, wierd class, strange grading, long but not bad essay exams
He pulled the entire syllabus out of his wazoo. I have no idea how I got an A.
Very nice guy but lectures are very hard to follow and very hard to get thepoint
He's impossible to understand, tests aren't reflective of his booring material
nice guy, had his funny moments, wears cool hats.. but as for teaching...
Nice guy,but difficult class, exams are all essay,I would avoid class if possible
material is hard to grasp... no real answers, essay tests are long and hard
Again, if you don't like Geog don't take this class...grow a brain! hes great
If you go to class and take notes the essay exams are easy!
prepare to read and write, seminar, discussion, very open style
hard to understand
Bunske rambles, difficult to understand, tests are long, hard, and material is
horrible teacher, thank god for the ta's
Pretty good professor. If you are not smart though, don't even bother.
Lectures are boring and don't make much sense. Unclear. Grade=very subjective
if you like to BS, then this is the class for you.
actually encourages you to think!!! great guy

Nice guy; strays from the topic a lot; very abstract course.
well-traveled and extremely well-read, its an interesting, non-generic class!

Great guy, very knowledgable. Non-geographers, learn something from this class.
interesting class, but material can be overwhelming, do the reading!!!
Very vague concepts. Thank God for the TAs.
What can I say? Unclear, concepts/grading is complete BS, and I got an A-.

his cultural geography class has nothing to do with either culture or geography.
hmm. not at all what i was expecting... he is unclear, class isnt that horrible.
This man is in outerspace. He feels the world revolves around his philosophies.
Interesting stuff, but I don't get the point of the class. Learn to love your TA
lectures didn't make sense, if your ta sucks you're screwed!
This class should be renamed Bunkse philosophies
Don't take this class. Very confusing even if u read stories. Exams are hard.
DO NOT TAKE THIS.. HARD.. CONFUSING... WASTE OF TIME!! NOT WORTH 3 credits work!
He is such a nice man, willing to help always
Lectures were very confusing. Tests were ridiculous.
Do not take this class! I went every day and studied like crazy! Got a C- :(
Way smarter than the whiny brats at UD-you'll learn alot if you give him a chanc
Opens up your mind...SO interesting! Tests predictable...bad rap, but good guy
Course is worthless trash. His philosophy is bizarre and the course irrelevant.
Confusing and rambling lectures. Class entirely based on his opinions.
This is a very interesting course, but not one that leads itself to tests and quizzes. While the material and philosophy is intriguing, I would take this course as an elective instead of to fulfill a requirement.
Nice guy but grades hard on the test. Course I coulda studied harder.
This is the WORST class at UD, DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS, The material is POINTLESS, and your GPA will FALL
excellent class, you'll learn a lot if you listen and go to class. always willing to help you if you actually take the time to talk with him. tests aren't hard if you take good notes and study.
Who cares about Humboldt, NOBODY CARES
A sweet guy..he is passionate about what he teaches! You have to show up and do the readings, but you will learn some new perspectives! I got a A in the class and enjoyed the experience--'Dream the world before you know it !!
nice, sweet guy, but the class is haphazard and totally based on his opinion...and the book is $60!!! rediculous!!!
Nice, funny guy. Loved this class. If you go to lecture and take good notes you'll do fine. Go talk to your TA to do well on the tests. I learned a lot from this course, it was one of my favorites.
This course has been a complete waste of time, who even knows what he is talking about. The exams are impossible for no reason, and the TAs are braindead.
wants to see his students succeed, do not take this class if you are looking for an easy A, nice guy but very difficult material, class attendance is a must as is completion the readings, book is very expensive
just regurgitate the lecture material on your tests, and you will be fine - do the readings and ask your TA for help, as an honors class it isn't too bad (not too much extra work, a paper or two)
nicest guy, but hard tests. go to class and pay attention....he has some good things to say about life.
This guys is awesome!
I think the guy who posted before was in the wrong classroom. This guy has a strong accent you can't understand and goes on and on about nothing! Tests are essay and hard! It's not easy to pass. I got a C and studied my a$$ off. Take it with someone else.
wouldnt take this class twice. but he likes his students, especially the 90yrold could that sat in the front of the classroom.
he's a little arrogant, this class is 100% philosophy, it has nothing to do with geography whatsoever
He says there's no tangents in this class...but that's all his lectures are! Random material, has nothing to do with geography, more of a philosophy class...TA's don't even know what's going on...definitely avoid this class!!!!
Class isnt that bad, make sure you dont just write down what is on the overhead, write down what he says and write that down on the exams...Do readings, TAs are helpful...
he made this subject up but he is interesting and not too difficult to please. go to lecture, take good notes & you will do well on exams. discussion boosts your grade if you dont get perfect scores on exams. great class
This man is fascinating! Very knowledgeable. You must study to pass his tests but it is worth it!
Not the worst class ever but not the easiest. Must go to lectures and discussion, the TA's will help you. I think the material is made up as he goes along, because it is out there.
possibly the worst class...never understood anything he talked about in class and the TAs are horrible.
Def. not a geography class... If you're looking for an easy elective avoid this class. Go to class or fail. Hope you can take really good notes...
This guy cracks me up, it's not a geography class, and i swear he made it up himself. He makes up his own theories and is in the videos. Overall i would say it was interesting, but you have to have a sense of humour, and want to learn it. The TA helps.
Not a bad guy, but he thinks he's teaching philosophy. Or wait - he called in geosophy. Interesting if you can stay awake and get through the thick accent. TA is helpful.
Sweet man, but rambles about philosophy in every lecture. Tests are impossible. Only take this class if you are happy with a B or C.
not a huge fan of the class...can't figure out what application this class could possibly have for my future. need to study for his tests. the only real way to do well is if you think exactly the same way that this guy thinks, which creeps me out.
Professor Bunske is both sweet and knowledgable, but his class is very hard. I did well in it, but spent a lot of time having no idea what was going on or what his point was.
Professor Bunkse is very nice and has led a very fascinating life, don't be worried if you don't understand at first...it will all come together by the end.
He's a pretty cool guy, class is just straight bad. Lots of studying and reading, discussion sections meet once a week and have a paper due every week. I actually learned quite a bit, and the class makes you think about things, but requires a lot of work.
He tried to whip out some wierd grading scale and a student told Bunksee it was bullsh*t. I like how the class is divided into discussion sections with a TA. Derrick Bowden is an ausome teacher, nice guy, easier to understand then Bunksee. Intresting material but involves abstract terms.
The worst class EVER!! DO NOT TAKE IT IF YOU DON'T HAVE TO!! I cannot understand a word the man says and his explanations are not so great. There is also no definite answer for anything. There are two tests, a final, and a field project. The tests are 5-1 sent answers, 2 shortanswer, and 1 essay.
This prof is great.Class is fun if you want to actually go and learn about world cultures and how people move and live their lives and why we do what we do.Very interesting, however you really have to study for the tests.Hard as all get out but you can do well if you study.Promise.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. by far, the biggest waste of money i have spent at this university. this class has nothing to do with geography, its more of a mix between psychology and philosophy. he's a nice guy but not very helpful
nicest man, funny stories, makes nooooo sense at all
This class is not a geography class, its a pilosophy class. It is impossible to get an A, i worked my ass off and im most likely ending up with a B-... its impossible, and i couldnt understand a damn thing that he was saying, horrible prof...
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS...absolutely the worst class i have taken at UD...
This guy lives in some sort of delusional universe...not a geography course by any measurement, but more like a lecture on bunkse's fictitious fantasy world and how he thinks it should be. without a doubt my least favorite course, you can get the notes, read all the articles, and still do****ty. this guy should teach a class on fiction in geo.
It wasn't that hard, he just wants to make sure you are paying attention. I thought he was a really nice guy, and I thought the class was interesting. If you are looking for a 3 scantron test type class, this is not for you, but you might like it if you actually want to learn something.
bunkse is the man. he is, perhaps, the most professionally and personally accomplished teacher i have had at UD. If you are a frat guy who just wants to pop your colla' and do a keg stand, this isn't the class for you. he's an international expert in his field and he tests like one.it's hard, but do your readings, go to class, and you'll do fine
WHAT WAS THAT CLASS?!?! i thought we were gonna learn about clouds and things like that.. not about some guy living in the snow eating poison potatoes.. and the people who thought the class was easy obviously dont have a life and play more computer games than everyone else on the campus combined.. dont take this class
HE IS A NICE GUY, WEIRD BUT NICE. HOWEVER UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD ANYONE ENCOURAGE THIS CLASS ITS HARD AND CONFUSING. STAY AWAY!
Geography is about so much more than maps and "clouds and stuff". Bunkse explores all different facists of geographic thought and shows the importance of physical geography in all our lives.
This class was terrible. By far the worst in my 3 years here. I will get an A but what an aweful professor. Extremely unclear, doesn't answer questions, only wants to hear what he said in class regurgitated on exams. I would urge people not to take this, you will probably loathe it. TA's were only way class was comprehensible at all.
Don't take this class unless it is required for your major. Its all theory, something the teacher makes up. Its so frusterating to think of how much time spent to get a good grade sturdyng and he failed me b/c I couldn't follow is rediculous lectures and 6 pages of notes every class.
he is BY FAR the WORST teacher I've had in 4 years!!! he is UNCLEAR, and so are the T.A.'s. When questioned about lecture, they state, Oh, I don't know what he meant by that Grading is unclear and unfair. on 1st exam, a 25 is a D but an 80 only moves up to B...ridiculous class, even more ridiculous prof. DO NOT taking this class at ALL costs.
This guy can not teach for his life. He is by far the worst teacher I have ever had. Do not take him. He talks about one thing then talks about some stupid story that has nothing to do with the lecture. I ended up getting a D- for the course by far my lowest grade ever at UD luckily for me its not part of my major so I could take the credit
worst class ever, worst teacher ever.it is not even a subject, he just made stuff up as we went along. contradicts his own "theories" and is extremely confusing. picks the most obscure questions for his tests and expects you to answer exactly how he would.the man doesnt even know how to work lights or an overhead and he has his TAs do everything!
Seriously the worst class I have every taken. The only thing that got me through lectures was laughing at Bunske's broken english. I did more studying in this class then any other in 4 years and I barely got a C. DO NOT TAKE UNLESS YOU HAVE TO!
i would rather me shot in the ass than take him again. SO UNCLEAr! did all work, went to all classes studied for 9 hours and looked at the final and literally cried bc questions had NOTHING to do with anything on studyguide, etc. so ridiculous waste of time and not even a SUBJECT its just rewriting his opinions on the most obscure details ever
All I did and class was laugh. Thats how ridiculous this class is. The subject and the professor are equally bad. This class was most likely made up from thin air. Theres no book which means theres nothing important to teach. This guy is a nutcase. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS I BEG YOU PLEASE!
Ridiculous class. Normally an A student, getting a C. DO NOT TAKE this class unless you absolutely have to! Take 5 pages of notes per lecture and read every story from the overpriced "course notes" to get a decent grade.
Even though this class was confusing and hard grasp at points, I thought it was very interesting and brought new perspective to geography. When taking a class with him it is important to go with the flow and just try to understand the concepts. If you just enjoy the class for what it is, it can be fun and interesting.
This is the hardest class ive taked at UD not because of the material, but because the bunkse is so scatterbrained and "ambiguous" (a word he will use twice per class). He will yell at class for not taking notes, but continue going on crazy tangents that dont have much to do with his "lecture" For an intro class, its rediculous. He expects you to b

Hard as hell class. Professor just makes his stuff up outta nowhere, class has nothing to do with geography, so try to avoid taking it. I mean, he seems like a nice guy, but he's kinda crazy, and incredibly philosophical and out of touch with the real world. Lectures consist of useless tangents that make no sense whatsoever. Terrible class!!!!!
Great Guy who really loves his work but he gets side-tracked really easily, very boring. NOTE: This is not a standard Geography class:You will study how landscape affects culture and how and why people act the way they do according to their surroundings. VERY ABSTRACT. If you are not an abstract thinker, DROP THE CLASS. (p.s. get Ethan as your TA)
Worst professor I have ever had. Lecture is extremely boring. Tests are way too long for 50 min. Hard grader. Learned nothing. Do not expect to learn about geography, I think he made up his own subject called ****.
Not one of my more favorite classes. He rarely responded to emails and went on many tangents during lectures. We spent two weeks talking about the senses and they were not on the exam. Just pray you get a good TA cause that is the only reason I was able to pass the class!
Don't listen to what all people say. This guy is ot that hard....he's a bit confusing at times (a bit??), but that's what the TA's and the review sessions are for. Study his notes as if they were the bible for the test and make sure at least to understand the concepts. Go to class always and take the best notes as possible, this class is NOT hard.
class is boring and professor just rambles on, hard if you dont go to class but the curve for the class is great. thought i was failing and ended up with a b. the professor really gets on your nervees though with his stupid stories and getting off topic.."anyway" get used to that expression
Bunkse is the man! Yes he is a little abstract but the key to success is to think outside the box, especially during discussion section. I had him as my discussion leader for his honors section (it was just myself and another student with him) and we all came up with pretty new and abstract ideas. His respect = a good mark in the class
Yes his lectures had the tendency to be boring and abstract and yes the exams were a little tricky but Bunske is not as bad as the reviews on this page make him out to be. He is a really nice guy who is very passionate about his field. Made me look at geog in a whole different way.
I read the comments here about Bunkse before taking his class and got scared. Decided to take the class anyway and he turned out to be a really great professor. A couple times he had the class in stitches from laughing. There were 3 blue book tests and an easy project. If you go to class and study, you will be fine. It's not rocket science.
I know it sucks when you take a class you have no interest in, so if this class is a requirement, PLEASE make sure to go into it open-minded. It's a really insightful class with interesting readings, & the professor has so much experience in the field, & although his lectures may be abstract, don't worry, read the readings, you'll be fine.
His class is not easy, and you have to study a lot for his tests but the upside is that he is a very interesting prof. and he is so smart. I would definately recommend taking him, but be aware that he is a bit abstract.
This was one of my favorite classes taken so far here at UD. Very good for history/philosophy/humanities majors interested in broadening their knowledge of the world and its landscapes. Is not a typical geog class but in very interesting in that it teaches you to think abstractly. Do the readings and pay close attention to everything he says.
Bunkse is a very accomplished scholar and a genuinely nice guy, and his classes are different from any other geography classes out there. That being said, the topics covered are often very abstract, and his notes and lectures are usually more of a reading off of his bullet points with not a whole lot of elaboration. Be ready to go with the flow.
worst professor in history...stay away..you wont learn anything...
ok,this guy was crazy.First off,the material learned in this class is VERY abstract. There is never really a clear cut definition for any term learned.Bunske obviously cares for his students, but he fails to teach the material effectively. However, rely on the TAs and you will be fine.Tests, which are all essays, are difficult.Overall,a rough class
Prof. Bunkse was difficult to follow, and as already stated very abstract. I didn't go into the class with much interest, and left with even less. I would not recommend, but those who enjoy abstract thoughts/ideas may enjoy the class.
An adorable old man with the best stories. Class was boring at times and his lectures are WAY abstract, but the discussions are helpful and if you read all of the required readings (assigned instead of a textbook) then you can do well on the exams. There is a project that is pretty easy (a little time consuming) and will help bring your grade up.
Great professor, very well-versed in the subject, although lectures can be a little boring. Yes, some topics are "abstract" but that's to be expected in a cultural geography class. Exams are straightforward - everything on the exams are covered in lecture or the assigned readings. Put the time into going to class and it's pretty easy.
His lectures are all over the place. Pay as much attention as you can. Go to discussion. The TA's are great! They clarify a lot and are very helpful! Three blue book exams. A few short answer questions from lecture, a few from the readings, and one essay. Sometimes you can make up your own answer and still get full credit.
Professor Bunkse is clearly a very well respected person in his field. He is interesting, very knowledgeable, and has unique ideas. His class is unlike any others you will take. It is not an easy class and its abstract and a bit haphazard. He gave us a new syllabus halfway through and moved our midterm up an entire week, giving us no time to study.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!!!!!
i am a straight a student but i got a d in this class. it was by far the hardest class ive ever taken. bunske rambles on so i had no idea what to take notes on so i failed every exam. he is a very harsh grader. this class brought down my gpa a full point. DO NOT TAKE IT!
The only reason I took this class was because I needed a Multicultural Class, but it turned out to be a very interesting class. He does have a roundabout lecture style, but if you go to 80% of the lectures and take decent noted you will do fine. Go to discussions, TAs very helpful, and grading system is very favorable for students.
I loved this class. The professor is clearly very knowledgable and passionate about the topic. This class is a bit more abstract than my other classes at UD. However, if you go in to it with a positive attitude you will learn a lot. All the tests are essay and very specific. Take good notes and ask questions as soon as you get confused.
Prof. Bunkse is knowledgeable RE Cultural Geography, but over the course of the semester I became convinced that Cultural Geography is his very own made up field that exists only in GEOG203. Ideas are abstract, and lectures disjointed at best. If you're logic\math\sci oriented you'll probably struggle. If you're emotional or abstract you'll be fine
He was one of the most influential professors that I had while at UDel. I even saw him at Geno's after a long diatribe against them. He was a great professor.
