If you want an easy A, good luck. If you want to learn history Cairo is the teacher to take, he is hard but his class is intresting. Lot's of reading I don't recomend taking him over the summer. Also really dry attitude. And ... Who said he was cute?&
Hmm..I'm really confuse on what to say for this professor. He's intimidating, his class is hard (if you don't study)..I agree with the last comment, GOOD LUCK if you wish to get an A and take him if your dedicated enough..He's pretty funny sometimes.
He is a great porfessor. he keeps you on your toes. I learned a lot from him. All you have to do is take REALLY GOOD notes, and pay attention.
I liked his way of teaching- take notes, memorize, and read....not difficult. very nice and interesting class. take him
this teacher is mean! I asked questions after class and he gave bad attitude. His lecture was a nightmare because he talked really fast and hardly wrote down anything on the board. His lecture was unclear and unorganized.btw,I wonder who rated him as hot&
Interesting material, but tests on obscure parts of the reading. MEMORIZE everything. Picks on people, Cussed me out in class for not doing reading that hadn't even been assigned yet, he hated me, but graded fair. I worked my but off and got a B. PS. loves communism. thinks its the best.
This class is his hardest class (he said). He is a good teacher, that knows his stuff. Be preparred to studdy, make sure you take good notes. If you take good notes and just skim through the readings you should get a B.
I am a good student, but this teacher made me drop his class. I coulnd't deal with him playing mind games with us and not being straight forward on what was going to be on the test. Very boring, and he has a bit of an ego. Dont recommend him.
Good luck because hes the most unfairest teacher i ever came across.
HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE, I warn students, do not take him if you care about your GPA, he is very unfair and very unorganized. This teacher is WACK, he has ISSUES, personal or not he got ISSUES. Not a cool teacher at all. in my opinion one of the worst teachers I ever had.. definitely.
Horrible teacher. Attitude problem. Having a funny professor doesn't show up on your transcripts. You have a text book plus another book that you have to read for his tests. He is anal. Disregard any positive post about this man. His test reviews=students yelling out people or places and he sa
YOU KNOW, I SAT IN CLASS & TOOK READABLE NOTES, FAST READ THE CHAPTERS, RAISED MY HAND IF I DIDN'T UNDERSTAND ANYTHING I ASKED DURING CLASS. GOT HOME,READ MY NOTES AGAIN,SKIMMED THE CHAPTERS,GOT AN EASY B.IT'S NOT HIS FAULT THAT PEOPLE FAIL HIS CLASS, I'M AVERAGE, BUT I DID O.K. HE'S FINE LOOKING 2!
He is very clear. He is a very good professor. Don't ask dumb questions or he will answer with an attitude. He have an attitude at times and pick on you, my advice, sit at the very back of the class.
TOO MUCH READING. HE IS A SMART ASS. LIKES TO CALL OUT PEOPLE - EVERYDAY-
in all honesty, he teaches history so that its fun and easy to remember but, his grading system is out of line. example: 2/3 of my class was getting a C or below. i had to drp & when i did, there were only 7 students left.definately dont take this class if you care about your GPA!!!
It is a challenge, yes, but he does know what he's talking about. His people skills sometimes need work, but he pushes you -- and I think sometimes some students don't know that in college, you will be pushed!
okay, first his tests are kinda hard. you have to be very specific on your answers or you wont get the credit for it. u have to take good fast notes(tape recorder might help)good teacher n pushes u to learn.study alot is the best advice.no curve on grading system.strictly points.
Asks very picky, almost irrelevant questions on tests. YOU MUST DO THE READING if you want any chance of passing. Take good notes, and pay attention to detail because it will be on the test. Lectures are pretty dull unless he's picking on someone. Grade based on 4 tests, no papers/projects.
What the freak is up with his grading system?! It is practically imposible to pass his class with all of those trick questions he has on his exams. Do yourself a favor and do NOT take his class!
Oh, he's tough. But he is hot.
Militaristic at lecturing, you need to know what this one is pontificating on before entering. Pace is exteremly fast & does not repeat if asked. Doing reading before class is essential. Exams are incredibly complicated and often ask menial details. i.e. The specific date of Regan's Resignation.
He is biased in favor of Asians. Making him a ****. He looked of a reason to exclude me from the class. I explained my sprained ankle and homeless caused me to fall asleep in his class on the first day. His response he would throw me out. He discrimated against me for being homeless.
If your lazy and think that college classes should be like highschool classes.. than yea its hard but he's okay just make sure you read and take notes like with any other class. Sometimes it hard to realize you have to actually WORK in college...
Aside from being tottaly hot he is also smart. I admit its a tough class. You MUST keep up with reading but he is a great teacher. And his smile will melt you!!!!!!!
This teacher SUCKS! he SUCKS!worst teacher at PCC EVER!!! trust me, if you care about your academic future, dont take him, he will jeapardize your gpa. HE SUCKS AT TEACHING period, teachers are suppose to help you, but he is the opposite!
Yeah this guy does suck He's right up there with PM Munzie, both these guys are gonna be the victims of hate crimes in the near future
Do yourself afavor and take another teacher, like for example Davis. I don't know what all the other people are talking about he's not hot at all. He is really hard and not interested in teacing, he's more interesting in falling student. And I like history, he enjoyed making it difficult. He wont re
This teacher makes it very hard for students to pass his class. He wants the answers on tests exactly his way only. DO NOT TAKE HIM. He'll fail you. I did all my homework, showed up to class every day did okay on tests. and got an F.
WARNING!!!!dont ever ever take him. He might be fine as hell but cold hearted and mean. expects way tooooooooomuch. please take someone else.
I don't understand what the complaints is all about. If you listen/take good notes, & read, one should be able to pass his class. This is COLLEGE, what do you expect! He is Cute. Davis is hard. She'll make you write essays. Too many requirements, stick to Cairo. Give him a chance. He's good looking!
Really tough but good and fair -- don't let yourself be intimidated by him, he's very helpful if you are brave enough to ask -- but you gotta ask!

hard professor but teaches well if you don't ask he won't tell you have to participate to get all the info take him and you will learn but passing will be difficult
This professor SUCKS, his class is very difficult and boring. He doesn't care for the students. Most of my classmates drop the class, he gave me a F, eventhough I attended to all of his classes and did ok on the exams. So, DON'T TAKE HIS CLASS, HE REALLY SUCKS!!!
I swear, underneath that Marine toughness, EC is a sexy god. (Last year, I had him and Schwyzer and Milne -- this girl was in f-ing heaven!) Seriously, he is hard, and people don't always understand how passionate he is about helping his students. Brilliant.
He makes History interesting & tells you straight forward. It's best to sit in front, he does call on people and if you can't answer it, he'll come back to you later. Take good notes and you'll be fine, cuz the man is fine! He is PCC's gift to female students. I'm a hist. major and will be taking more of his other classes. He is good-looking!
THIS TEACHER SUCKS DO NOT TAKE REPEAT DO NOT TAKE. HE EXPECTS TOO MUCH FROM THE STUDENTS. HE WILL CALL ON YOU & PICK ON YOU IF YOU DO NOT KNOW THE ANSWER. TESTS ARE SUPER HARD, HE'LL TELL YOU EVERYTHING THATS SUPPOSED TO BE ON THE TEST & PUT THE STUFF HE DIDN'T TELL YOU THAT WAS GOING TO BE ON THE TEST. HE SETS HIS STUDENTS FOR FAILURE. FIRE HIM!
his class is difficult but you will learn a lot. you must take good notes of his lecture and read the book. and you will pass.
i took the class cause i love history so with that said i didnt find the class hard at all, the test were kinda hard but yeah thats why u gotta study. he can be strict sometimes and he does pick on you. but if u study and read the book and ask for help u will be fine.
He is very strict in his lectures but very clear. I really enjoy the class.
Straight foward. Warn everyone to read books. That IS VERY TRUE i got a "D" but that was my fault I never read one page. Almost got a "C". His lectures were VERY intresting.Enjoyed every one of them. Although his test are very hard. The questions can be some what tricky. Read and take good notes and you'll be fine.
I echo the last rater! Cute and very helpful!
His grading is very hard - he expects specific facts from u. If u get a vocab wrong, he'll mark the whole answer wrong. There's no partial point for ur answer ever in his exams. He can be helpful only if u go to his office.U need to read the text books millions of time. Even if u do the extra credit nicely on time, he may forget about it and not gi
I had him for the summer session and I LOVED his class-Yeah he is tough and he'll pick on you but if you truly want to learn something take him. At first he is intimidating but he is defenetly one of the best teachers i've had in PCC- Lots of reading and note taking 4 exams each worth 250 points each. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
he is a very demanding teacher but i enjoyed his class...he does crack the occational joke and is easy to pass if you can keep up with the readings, take notes, and ask the right questions...but hey its not much to ask for conssidering he is a very good looking man...so go for it and take his class dont let him scare you
This professor is the best! I loved taking his class. It was a difficult class to take, but he made it fun because he would tease on the people that didn't do their reading. I reccommend to take his class:)
No one likes him but I do but then again I am a History major. Most people hated his tests but I thought they were pretty straight forward...I think the key is to take a**** load of notes so do that and you should do fine.
if you are like me and don't open your books when you get home this class is not for you. His lectures are interesting, but his tests are very difficult. I admit he is smart and fine
i love him, he is the best
I love Mr. Cairo! He is the best history teacher. He is funny and sarcastic at times. If you have an easy name to remember, he will call on you all the time. Take notes and you'll be fine. He kind of looks like Antonio Banderas.
Just read your book, pay attention in class, take good notes and you should do fine. Eat peanut butter before the test to help you memorize dates and events that took place in history. Very interesting, I learned a lot. He picked on me, but I was always prepared. Also, I didn't mind it cuz he is FINE! They need to clone this man.
He is so into himself that he doesnt take other's peoples ideas about how things can happen in history.

Just Read ur**** n u'll be fine
GREAT TEACHER!!!!!! SURE THERE IS ALOT TO READ BUT HE IS CLEAR AND EVEN THOUGH HE LOOKS MEAN HE IS WILLING TO HELP YOU. ALL YOU GOTTA DO IS ASK> I HATED HISTORY KNOW I AM TAKING ANOTHER COURSE WITH HIM.
He is one hot babe. Yo teach, I know u check this site often. Take his class, take good notes, don't be absent. If anything is unclear, clarify it with him before the end of class. Also, don't be absent. 90% lecture shows up on tests. 10% in the book and/or video (if any) Great Guy!! A knockout!

mixed, hes clear, he tells you whats going to be on the test, if your not studius then you better larn how to be
bad teacher, he is tired of teaching.

This guy can be scary and intimidating but he is great one on one. His lectures are very clear, but you MUST study because his tests are difficult. He likes to use tricky questions too. Ask him for clarification on anything you find confusing and you should be fine.
Very cool teacher. He seems frustrated with apathy among the student body, and is very good at demonstrating that by putting unprepared students on the spot. People's History isn't necessary for passing the tests, but it is more interesting. His test aren't hard, but you have to pay special attention to how things are worded.
arrogant. intimidates. generally rather abusive. I also found his lectures dry and dull.
Is the exact opposite of what a teacher should be... doesn't care how his students do... creates tests that trap students into wrong answers... he is so arrogant that he wants to prove he is smarter than you any chance he can get
Cairo is the most inspiring teacher I have had the priviledge to be taught by. His classes are exciting & intriguing. Anyone that has something bad to say about him is either a LOSER or does not do the work. The only reason why Cairo would seem to be arrogant is b/c there are a lot of students that just WASTE HIS TIME! He's 2 smart for slackers!!!!
The only professor who can give good lectures on history, that actually keeps you interested. Problem: too demanding. Amused at the confusion of students and tricking them. Take everything he says, literally. If he says "Any questions about the exam?" Ask specifically what's going to be on it. He'll give you an answer. I dropped this class.
Anyone who writes that Cairo is arrogant is writing that because he is arrogant. If he gave a rat's ass about what his students learnt he would have us write more essays instead of these retarded confusing scan tron tripe trick question tests. Good teachers that are hard prepare their students s o that they can do well. I wish I could drop him
Cairo does what he does because students are used to cake walks. His tests ask questions that are most pertinent to the subject matter. If you read and pay attention to lecture, YOU'LL DO WELL...some people need to chill. He's a great educator.
Avoid at all costs!! Very ARROGANT. Loves to make people look like idiots by asking you questions you haven't read yet and expecting you to know. I'm not a student that didn't try. I read according to the sylabus but then he would ask questions about future chapters we hadn't been expected to read yet. It's teachers like this that make students re-
too much reading! In addition to textbook another 600+ page book and another book on top of that for extra credit which you'll need if you take his class.
He is a great, challenging professor. You will need to read in his class in order to succeed. He has great lectures, and you will need to have good note-taking skills to get a good grade. I did not think that he is arrogant at all. He just wants students to WORK. I could have gotten an A, but I spent more time on my chem class. Ill settle for my B.
He can be a bit offputting at first, but he's an excellent teacher. He's very demanding but he's also committed to you learning. Not an easy A, I worked for my B.
Class isn't that hard. He allows you to ask exactly what will & will not be on test..even what essay ?s going to be! There IS lots of reading, but it's not that bad. Focus on sections he mentions in class & it'll be fine. Has sarcastic humor (not to be confused w/ arrogance). His grading system isn't that bad; people just need to FOLLOW DIRECTIONS
The worst teacher I have ever had on any level... do not take this class... it is based on deception... he tries too fool you rather than test you on what you know about lecture and reading... arrogantly speaks to class as if we were elementry school students... the class started with over 35 students and ended with 12... not only a bad teacher but a jerk as well,
Took 7B in winter & loved it! He's sarcastic, not mean. Lots of reading, but great lectures & he'd stay after class to answer questions. His testing style's odd, but not too hard to figure out. He expects a lot, but really wants us to learn & is helpful. Read, take notes, don't be afraid to ask questions & be sure to follow the test directions.
wow! cairo is the most arrogant and self absorbed professor i have ever had at pcc! if you have a life don't bother to take him i don't know who has the time to read 2 text books. The lectures are boring, fast and he won't stop to repeat himself, test are filled with confusing trick questions and he loves to pick on students randomly during lectures

Many professors at PCC are PHD's, Cairo is not, and it is easy to see why. This man clearly dislikes his job, and does not posess the intellect necessary to create exams which test knowledge of the course material without having to resort to laughable "trick" questions. The sarcasm and arrogance are obviously a front and didn't bother me-he's sad
You don't have to have a Ph.D. to be a great teacher;sometimes the one with PhDs aren't as good. Cairo is very demanding and stern but you can learn a lot from him if you behave like an adult and not like a child.
Took him a while back. You have to read ALOT. In his tests he does use tricky questions. Does like to pick on students sometimes. He will help you if you ask. He is nice. Don't be absent and take lots of notes.
Fantastic teacher. Highly recommend. Uses the book a lot, but helps students. Good man.
He assigned two textbooks at the beginning of the year; throughout the lecture, he covered one of them entirely so that you can get a decent grade without having read it, but the other he doesn't touch on at all, so you have to read it on your own. If you aren't willing to read for an A don't take this prof.
He's not a very easy teacher, but you truly learn a lot in his class...teaches what others don't. He's funny & very sarcastic (some people don't get his humor) I've had to work for my A but I'm very proud of it. Don't REALLY NEED the 2nd textbook...you can still get an A w/o it. Just study 1st book and lectures a lot. Most ?s are from those.

READ EVERYTHING TO GET AN A AND U BETTER WRITE FAST FOR THE LECTURES
Not a fun or interesting class what so ever. the tests are extremely difficult. the lectures are horribly boring. i thought tsking a califonria hist class would be interesting but he just sucked. i consider myself a very smart student and more thsn capable of getting a's and b's on tests with ease but i didnt recieve a single a or b on any test
Cairo is a good teacher, very knowledgable and he gives the student the whole picture, not just what the american written bias text book tell you. if you are in narrow-minded don't take him and his test are easy if you study, but sometimes they are very tricky. if you are welling to work for your grade easy A, take him.
good teacher just have to take all the notes during lecture
Hard, cold to low-grade student, hardly used textbook, & 90% of the exam questions were not taught in class. The class started with more than 30 people and by the drop date there were only 6 left, with the best result of a possible low B.
STRICT TILL END OF SEMESTER! very cold. the only chance for points are on his tests and he gives allot of trick ?'s. there were 30 in my class and now there are about 7-8. i would not recommend him at all. trust me guys!
all you have to do IS TAKE GOOD NOTES....and than study those notes. just briefly read the books. sometimes there are extra credit questions on the exams, take advantage when he offers them
Prof Cairo is a demanding prof because he wants his students to learn. If you're a serious history student then you can appreciate him. I thought he was excellent. He knows his stuff. He's sweet and helpful.I have enjoyed taking him in the past and will do so before I graduate. Don't take him if you're lazy and just come to school to hang out..
Do not take this class, I repeat DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!! If you enjoy reading 200+ pages a week from 3 different books, then this is the course for you. He enjoys when students come to class unprepared and do not know the subject.
HE **** TO ASIANS, HE ALWAYS PICK ON ASIANS IN CLASS AND LET THE MEXICAN KIDS ALONE. HE IS WORST TEACHER I HAVE HAD IN SCHOOL, I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY PCC LET **** LIKE THIS TEACH
Any good comments posted here are probably by him since it's obvious this guy is unhappy with the world and has nothing going on in his personal life. He thinks he can cover up the fact that he's not qualified by acting like a typical macho bad-ass.Don't take him...such a waste of energy. Mean, tricky and wacko-wacko.Belongs in a guerilla not PCC!!
Cairo is a cool professor, but his point system is really difficult to achieve a good grade. By the time you grasp his style, you're most likely in the B range already. No curve in the class but notes are permitted on random exams. Must read the text in order to follow the lectures. Difficult but do-able. Last-resort though not impossible with effo
For the sake of brevity: just don't take him. We've all had to learn this the hard way. :P
stay away from this class.
WOW, THE POSTINGS BELOW ARE HARSH BUT TRUE. I TOOK 7B WITH THIS GUY 1 YEAR AGO AND WAS FORCED TO DROP AFTER RECEIVING A "D" ON MY FIRST EXAM...MY FIRST "D" EVER. I JUST FINISHED TAKING 7B WITH HEUPLER AND HAVE NOTHING BUT GREAT THINGS TO SAY. TAKE HIM...I GOT AN "A"....
Cairo is good teacher. I received a D on my first exam, but that was because I did not study enough. He gives you the grade you deserve. If you work hard, like I did after that D, you can get an A, like I did. He's helpful, smart and understanding. Read both of the books he gives you, do the extra credit, and work hard and you will get an A too.
I can't stress enough.... Don't take this professor!!! Take Heupler, he is nice, professional, and an easy "A". To hell with this guy... Good luck if you get stuck with this guy.Signed, A student..
Mr. Cairo is not a bad teacher, but the tests are hard. but he tells you what the test is going to be on. you can ask him if a subject will be on it or not and he will tell you. there is no curve, which sucks. entire grade is based on the tests. but you will learn a lot and you will get a good grade if you pay attention and write notes.

Couldn't tell if he was mean or just really sarcastic. He's a good lecturer (when he actually lectured), but the amount of work required for his final project is obscene. I couldn't keep up with it and had to drop. So, I do not recommend taking him if you have a job.
ok teaching
this teacher is realy easy if you only pay attention and write notes,he lets us use our notes the entire semester ,but not our final exam,he is quite funny or sarcastic making fun out of anything!.i will recomend if you take notes, only thing is that he doesnt repeat much what he says !
Don't screw up the first test. He only gives 4 tests and if you screw up the first one you probably have to Ace all the others just to get an A in the class. The class is pretty interesting. You learn alot. The tests are all on mostly on his lectures, you don't necessarily have to read the book but it sure does help and give a bettter understanding
He is an excellent professor. I had him a couple of years ago and I loved his class. He is very demanding but that's just his style. I plan to take another class with him before I graduate. He is very sexy and sweet. He expects you to do your work, so if you're lazy and just come to school, to say you are in college, then don't take his class.
hes awesome I took him for history 30 and history 9A his class is not easy, its only for people who are serious students! He wont be an easy A. Hes intersting and you can learn a lot from him. His class is what made me change major to history. Hes awesome, not easy, but you learn a lot!!!
Don't be scared off, bark is worse than his bite. Very knowledgeable professor!
the class is super hard, he moves really fast and you have to read the book, even if he didnt go over it in the lecture but it was in the reading, it might be on the test. honestly, anyone that says hes a jerk and a bad teacher is just bitter because he is super hard and doesnt put up with stupid. but he is smart and helpful and interesting.
avoid at all costs- the single most myopic, uninspiring, waste of skin ive ever been unlucky enough to encounter. started screaming at a girl in class because she didnt have a scantron even though he had said we wouldn't need them til the following week. Completely psychotic. many female students told me he made inappropriate comments ofsexualna
LOLZ HE AINT HOT HIS CLASS WAS SO BORING AND HE HAD THE WORST BREATH OF ANY PROF!
This was a good class, but way too hard! DO NOT TAKE HIM! I got a B and was sure I had aced his class. I worked harder in that class than I ever have in any class in my life and only got a B. HE IS TOUGH AS HELL! DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!
Professor Cairo is a great teacher. He is tough but I learned a lot.
he's a nice guy, pretty interesting. only had about 3 test, but very hard class. he doesn't care if he fails you. some students had taken that class before, but he failed them so had to retake it again. but they took HIS class again, so they had to like something about his class
his lectures are amazing. if you take good lecture notes and read the book, this class is an easy A.
Enjoyed his lectures very much although he is a little insulting when you don't have the answers he is looking for. Read the books, take lots of notes from lecture, and read test questions carefully (he can be a little tricky) and you will do well.
Do not take this class! Horrible, arrogant teacher. He is a bully!
This guy is a complete and utter jerk! He is not interested in teaching only harassing anybody and everybody who crosses his path! STAY AWAY!
This professor should be taken at your own risk. Sitting in his class is almost degrading to oneself, as he is not hesitant to make you feel ignorant. He is quite to judge and unpatient. I am NEVER taking another course with him again!
He is not a bully. I enjoyed his classes very much. He only picks on you if you do not pay attention. Take good notes and you'll be fine.
this guy is not a bully i have been burned by him like twice already but that's only if you set yourself up he isn't a bully he only "makes you feel stupid." if you dont know what your talking about he uses this to make you have confidence in your answer so that you are confident on the test all you need to do is do the reading and take good notes.
Cairo has had military training, you can tell. He expects nothing but your best...he's a wake up call to the amount of work you'll be attending to when you transfer to a four year university. He is an asset to Pasadena City College...I will never forget him.
must do the reading, only four exams. questions all come from the book AND lecture so its important to attend class. he is funny and charming. i love taking his classes :)
lol at the guy who thinks Eduardo prepares you for 4 years. Professors with actual PHD's are capable of constructing test questions that test a students ability to tie course themes together and apply original thought- Ed's tests rely on tricks and fact vomiting. Take it from a Cal student- Cairo is a joke with an inferiority complex
BULLY!, BULLY! AWFUL AND WOULD NOT RECOMMEND TO MY WORST ENEMY!
THE WORST HISTORY TEACHER I HAVE EVERMET!. HE GETS UPSETWHEN YOU ASK QUESTIONS AND HE LIKE TOCALLON PEOPLE WHO DONT KNOW THE ANSWER. HE MUST BE SINGLE BECAUSE A WIFE WOULD SHOW HIM WHOSE BOSS!
Not an easy class, but he makes it very interesting. You have to attend each class to take notes, bought 4 books but 2 completely useless (peru & Brazil), test is mainly on lectures but has some quest. from book too. many people failed or droped though, if u want a good grade u have to attend all the classes, overall good teacher,
He's not an easy teacher and people tend not to like him because he's not an easy A. I taken him 3 times already & love his classes! if u do ur reading and take REALLY good notes you can pass him without trouble. Hes a professor that gets u ready for a 4yr since he's not easy, but hes the reason I am a history major and fell in love with history!
I dont know what all these cry babies are whining about, but Cairo is one of the most greatest teachers!!! I hate when a teacher just lets people slide by,you go to school for a reason. to learn!!! He is so about that, he will call people out for answers, but you should be taking notes duh. just take great notes!!!!! TAKE HIM!!!!
let class use notes and EVERYONE STILL FAILED TWO TEST. He had to give out extra credit just so people could pass.
so i took this class for the summer but i wasn't used to his kind of teaching and ended up getting a c but decided to make him fail me to take it again. i really liked his teaching methods though..just not used to his kind of tests. im going to take him for LA history too..give him a try. and pay attention to the notes!
He reminds me of a history teacher i had in high school. he is very helpful and makes it easy enough just read and take good notes and don't complain
Good professor. A lot of notes and a lot of reading but he's funny and his lectures are clear and very useful.
On the fence about this guy. Has a weird superiority complex and is kind of a ****. But his lectures are pretty interesting. Get the feeling he thinks he is in some sort of tough love cool teacher TV special or movie.
His class is challenging for sure. The tests can be difficult, there is a lot of notes and a lot of reading, and yes he can be kind of a jerk (in a funny way) if he thinks you should know something and you don't...but his lectures are interesting and he's pretty funny most of the time, and really he does care about whether we learn this stuff (does
Terrible! This guy is an ego manic - he thinks he knows everything. I loved history before this and now I am having second thoughts!
Mr Cairo is confident. He makes History interesting in Lecture. You must take notes. His tests are based on lecture and the book. He gives extra credit oppurtunity. This isn't a bird course. Showing up doesn't get you an A. You must read. If you dont like history you should consider this teacher, he makes it interesting.
He seemed like a jerk at first, but he really isnt. Intimidating at first, but u come to realize hes a cool guy. He even let my class make our own tests for the midterms - the first time since like 1980! lol. Overrall, he makes the subject interesting and breaks out a subject-related joke every now and then. His tests are a little tough though...
Cairo is one of the best PCC profs (though his class is tough). He's enthusiastic about history and makes it possible to pass his class if you work hard. If you want an A, be aware that he drops test clues in EVERY lecture and that the text makes up 10-25% of each exam. You can easily get a C if you just study his lectures. Extra credit is given.
First impression was intimidating but throughout the class you can see his best side from his teaching. Read all required assignments and extra credit is given based on his instructions. He asks for each student in the class for test questions. Test questions are based on readings and lectures. Participate and make study groups 'cause it helps!
Great professor. He knows what he is talking about about makes his lectures fun and interesting. Not the easiest class in the world but take lots of notes and read the books and you'll do fine.
hes funny in his own way but. but answers to any question must be exact or its wrong.
He's a good professor. He's clear and will repeat anything that you ask to repeat. His lectures are, of course, like interesting stories. Just take notes, stay focused, and try to be interested. Study your notes, do the readings, and you'll be fine. He's a cool guy.
He is helpful. He teaches us only the interesting part of history. A good psychiatric, balance your adrenalin and serotonin to make you happy and keep thinking. Trust him, and you will be ok.
he was super hard..
While the class can be entertaining at times, there is a lot of reading and he will spend most of the time time calling on everyone at random to answer questions about the reading. He will tease you if you do not know. The test questions can be tricky. I recommend flash cards & form a study group if possible. You must stay on top of the reading
Prof Cairo never owes anybody anything. Write down his lecture and develop your reading from there. He loves his students. Don't drop the class. I don't know what had inspired those students wrote such ugly comments against him. Every prof has their system to make students learn. Trust him!
Honestly my fave professor thus far. He is extremely helpful and will repeat whatever you ask him to repeat. he's funny and a nice guy. be prepared to write down everything he says because it will be on the test, which aren't that hard i'm taking two classes with him for fall and can't wait! :)i really do recommend you take him!
He teaches in a very clear, lineal manner. Just make a lot of notes b/c most of the test Q's are covered in class. He can be pretty funny at times and doesn't hesitate to make light of stupidity. The class consisted of 4 tests which he allowed the use of flash cards during. He's one of the most straightforward professors, but isn't boring.
He's a funny guy. Likes to poke fun, calls on students randomly from roll sheet to answer questions about readings. Keeps you on your toes at all times. The tests are challenging and you will need to master the lecture and reading material to get an A.
Those looking for an effortless grade shouldn't take this class. The material is difficult because it spans many countries at once. His method of teaching can be confusing; he witholds information & seems to intentionally confuse students. Requires A LOT of reading & study groups help. Challenging, but his sense of humor is entertaining.
Great teacher, really knows his stuff. Definitely not easy though but he's a silverFOX
Attendance is a must if you want to pass the class. His tests are directly from his lectures. Silver Fox for sure
If you're not ready to work hard, don't bother taking his class. He expects you to read the books frequently and be prepared with the information. His lectures are very clear and interesting; definitely the best part of the class. He will be condescending and irritated if you ask him vague or stupid questions, so just think before you speak.
Taking good notes and actually studying them is the key to excelling in his class.
His lectures are clear and filled with a lot of important information. His tests are hard if you don't read the book, lectures and study. He comes off as a **** during class when students ask questions and makes you feel stupid if he can tell you haven't read. Way to get an A: study,READ! (he states he wants you to read the books) & pay attention
He is pretty hard. you have to make sure that you pay attention to his lectures and write as much as you can. I never read but you should read because his tests are pretty hard. But he is clear and a good professor
IF YOU WANT TO SUCCEED IN THIS CLASS, HAHA WON'T HAPPEN. HIS TESTS ARE EXTREMELY HARD AND NO MATTER HOW MUCH YOU STUDY YOULL STILL FAIL. HE DOESN'T REALLY HELP YOU OUT WHEN YOU APPROACH HIM AND HIS ARROGANT PERSONALITY DOESN'T MAKE ANYTHING BETTER. MADE HISTORY AS HARD AS YOU COULD MAKE HISTORY. DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS, YOU'LL THANK ME LATER.
his lectures were very clear and his teaching is very blunt, and his arrogance and attitude discouraged a lot of participation. his lectures and tests contained information not given in the readings, his exams are tricky and he is very strict on appropriate answers. not for the faint of heart, u must love history before u take him.
I normally love history classes, but this was a dreadful experience. The class was presented in a militaristic manner with little or no help from him, he didn't respect me or other students, and made us all feel inferior if we didn't understand the material (usually not found in textbooks). Take any other history professor but this guy. Seriously.
Mr. Cairo really is a superb teacher with a wealth of knowledge on the subject. If you have low self-esteem and can't take a few jokes, or get nervous when asking questions, this isn't the class for you. I nearly got an A except I missed a couple of his lectures, missing one is pretty bad since he covers a lot of info each time. I'm male by the way
Professor Cairo is very knowledgeable and his lectures are very informative. It is crucial that you attend his lectures and write EVERYTHING down. It is also very important that you do the readings. Needless to say, his class is very difficult and his exams require a ton of studying. Despite my hardcore studying, I failed :(
to continue my last rating...I believe that my downfall was my lack of reading the material and trouble with exact memorization. If you have trouble with memorizing EXACT info and with reading a challenging textbook...yah, don't take his class. I do like him as a professor and think that I walked away with a lot of knowledge in the end.
Very hard class. When reviewing tests, always ask if flashcards are allowed. Most likely he will consider. The key is to beg him. Be prepared to write your hand off! Prof. Cairo makes history sound interesting and history is my worse subject. READING THE BOOK IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT. MOST OF HIS LECTURE IS FROM THERE.
Nice guy even though he seems scary at first. Very detail oriented and very specific in how he wants things done. MUST READ the chapters in order to pass. To review you ask him if certain things will be on the test and he says yes or no, so come prepared with a long list of questions. Requires effort but it is not as scary as it seems at first.
only take his class if all your other classes are not academic. be prepared to write your wrist off 6+ full pages of notes is not uncommon. he's helpful but it's just so much information to remember at once. his test are VERY specific try to remember EVERYTHING even the persons middle name. if you dont read just drop the class you wont pass
His lecture is clear, lots reading. What you need to read is only 30% on the test. A mean professor who always make jokes to his students. Test is super hard! Even you are born in the United States and have 2 years of high school education of history, you still surfer in his class.(P.S. take this class if you are really good at American history)
Professor Cairo is very challenging. His lectures are engaging, interesting and he does not censor himself to accommodate sensitivities. He expects clear, complete responses both on the tests and in class. He also expects his students to do the work. He is an excellent professor, his class has helped me become a stronger student overall.
Professor Cairo is great, Completely intimidating at first, as all teachers should be I think. He's challenging and wants you to be totally specific. But he gave me such a love for history. I was very impressed with him, and he's not as tough as he appears to be. For me, I cannot respect a teacher I can walk all over, and I definitely respect Cairo
He is a very good professor, but also hard as hell. His lectures are very interesting but be prepared to take copious amounts of notes because 95% of his tests come from notes.
Cairo is an awesome teacher! He knows his stuff and all you people that complain about him are stupid. The reason why he calls his students out is to make sure we are prepared. I was teased about not knowing the material but I didn't find it offensive. He has an awesome personality if you try to get to know him. Take him if you like a challenge. :]
I loved Cairo's class. Sure, he comes across a little intimidating at first, but he's definitely a nice guy. Just read and you'll be fine. And make sure you listen EXACTLY to what he says and write it down, he's very specific. But what a great professor. He really got me thinking about where this country has come from. He's hard though!
Cairo is a great teacher and is not as hard as everyone makes him out to be. You will learn A LOT by the end of his class. He is intimidating at first and may call you out, but its all in fun and to make sure you know the material. Pay attention to his lectures and do the assigned readings and you''ll be fine.
Horrible teacher, rude, crude and careless. Class started with 35 bright eyed people willing to learn, by the end only 6 people were left. I will never take from this man again.
cairo might come off as a bit intimidating at first and he seems to enjoy putting you in awkward moments but hes a good professor. be prepared to be called on, do the reading and take notes during lecture and you should be fine. no actual homework just reading. 4 test a semester. he has some kind of a group game in place to earn extra credit.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH THIS MAN! He's awful! I withdrew from his class because he has impossible expectations. Lectures are intimidating and stupid. He goes around asking ten different students the same question and tells them all they are wrong and never gives the answer. Tests are so dumb. He expects you to memorize every detail. Good luck!
Read the book in order to have the general ideas of what his lecture is about! Winter section basically no HW but only read textbook. He seems to be strict at first but you'll find him funny and not like a totally careless prof. He's good at lecturing and it's challenging to get A on his tests. Study for tests and you'll be fine! You'll learn =)
Took him for Hist 30,7A,7B. I'm an Army veteran so I don't whine like a crybaby if my professor doesn't hold my hand the whole way through, but he treated everyone with respect, he was never really intimidating but only acted like it jokingly, NO HW, how can you complain? I loved his classes, and his lectures were FILLED with interesting knowledge.
He is the best teacher ever, his lectures are very interesting and i loved his humor. Definitely not an easy A, you actually have to put in the effort. If you actually want to learn take him if you're just going to be a crybaby and expect to be held by your hand then don't take him.
Professor Cairo is the nicest teacher i have ever taken at PCC. I am a person who grew up hating History, but Professor Cairo just brought it to life. As long as you take notes in class, and review them, you are bound to get an A in the class, simple as that. The last two tests, he gives you the option of writing your own test! Amazing teacher! :)
He is such an amazing professor, he is really funny but I didn't get his sense of humor at first so don't take things personally. He is very clear with his instructions so just do as he says, read, formulate questions and definitely study for tests there are only 4. He does give extra credit and he is opened for suggestions.
He is the best history teacher I've ever had.He is really funny and nice His lectures are really interesting. Make sure you write good notes and ask questions before the test, his test are pretty hard.
If you love History, particularly California History...then find someone else to take, because this man has issues. I worked as hard as I could to stay on top of the reading, but he changes like the wind and his tests are unnecessarily hard. It appeared as if he purposely failed 3/4 of the class. Called no one by their 1st names, which didn't help.
No, just no.. He just takes this class too far. First of all, he makes his tests impossible for people to pass. He's insane! I am a hard working, student that doesn't need the teacher to hold my hand and I thought this was hard with him. Didn't help me at all.
very good professor, most people think negatively of him because he's very straight forward. I got poor grade because I slacked but he lectures very well as long as you take good notes and READ the tests aren't hard. He doesn't give homework but when you go over the readings he will ask questions and put you on the spot.
i dropped his class because he gives you an intimidating feeling. the reading is hard, it's just not easy to understand the book and that's your only hw so i'd imagine it'd be hard to pass the test. he's just ridic
The class is based off 4 tests, yes that's it! It sounds simple, read the text, take notes, but it's not because the information in the text is too much to study from and the lectures go by very quickly. He tries to help but that isn't enough. This is a very tough course, and theres no support from the teacher if a student is struggling.
Very intimidating professor, but he tends to become nicer as he gets to know you more. But his tests are pretty hard and he will ask questions about the smallest most mundane details. Take lots of notes, they're crucial. Reading the book is really important cause he likes to put students on the spot. Likes to make ppl feel dumb.
Cairo is an amazing teacher!! He knows his history and expects you to know it too. BUT be prepared to take GOOD notes, READ the book(s), really STUDY, and most importantly, understand the material. *requires serious dedication*
Don't take this class unless you're a history major. The time you'll waste trying to study for his tests is rediculous. Puts students on the spot. ALOTTTT. On our first test he failed everyone except one person got a low C. Don't waste your time by the end of the semester there is like 2 people left.
Do not take this class with this teacher. I guarantee you that you will end up failing the first test and dropping. He picks on you in class, wants specific answers on tests, and test are worth 250 points each. Trust me dont take this professor. Dont waste your time with this professor.
Prof Cairo is one of the more difficult teachers I've ever had. This shouldn't deter you, however. He's brilliant and knows what he's talking about. Make sure to ask plenty of questions, especially during the test review.
Professor Cairo is the best History Professor I've taken. His class is very interesting. He's very prepared and wants his students to be as well. If you are not planning to work hard don't take him, because you'll probably fail.
great teacher attention to detail and its not easy but rewarding at the end
He is a great professor, hard but worth it
Professor Cairo is the best History teacher I've had. His lectures are really interesting, you must take good notes because much of that goes into the tests. His grading is hard, but you should be studying and reading the books. If you plan on being Lazy, don't take this class because you will Fail.
He does contributes to your knowledge and helps you learn. His manner of teaching is awful in my opinion. His tests have many trick questions and subjects that were briefly mentioned in the course. As a result low test grade/overall grade is highly probable. Forces into study groups. Course atmosphere is intimidating for timid/shy students.
Don't take this class, his lectures are great but he has an unapproachable personality. If i had done my research i would have picked a different class. Good Luck if you are taking it.
Cairo is an amazing professor! His class is hard, you have to take really good and detailed notes, and you really can't miss a single day but his class is really really interesting. He may seem intimidating but he's actually a really cool guy and extremely knowledgeable. I want to take his class again just for fun lol
very interesting subject and a great educator. college is suppose to be a challenge but the problem are his exams. the questions do not seem hard but his answers are tricky (mc). after so many people not passing his or barely skimming through with a C, you'd think he'd want to approach things differently.
Really hard exams. They are tricky and not specific. I was between a B and C but I dropped it halfway through. He has a bad attitude. A lot of reading from textbook and note taking. Pure memorization. Really time consuming class. Challenging and rewarding but still, from my experience, you should find a better professor instead. Avoid if possible!
Even when I read the text and studied for his exams, I couldn't pass his tests. The tests are set up with tricky questions and his way of grading makes it frustratingly difficult to succeed. Solid lecturer, but I don't recommend taking his class if you want an A, or even a B.
This has been one of the more challenging class I've experienced throughout my academic career. However after completing the class I felt I truly earned the grade I recieved. As for the tests, they weren't to bad as long as you know the material. Tips stay a head in the reading and participate in your education and you will do well n his class.
Do not take him. His tests are extremely difficult, even for students that attend all classes and do the readings. An A is really not possible for almost anyone, the average final grade has to be around a low D. Also, he randomly calls on students and will belittle them if they do not know the answer. Do not take him unless you absolutely have to.
If you want to learn about Mexico's history take him! His lectures are very interesting, time will pass by very fast. You do have to read the book and over your notes because his test are very hard but worth it. Take advantage and ask a lot of questions for the review because in the long run it will help you! Took him for 2 other classes.
Don't bother taking Cairo if you want an easy pass. His lectures are interesting. His test are hard. If you take his class, make sure to ask if you guys can use notecards. Take very good notes, read the book, and you'll pass the class. Skip reading the book and you fail. Ask for notecards on test, he'll probably say yes. Ask good question on review
he's a gives great lectures, he is really funny too. just make sure you read what he assigns
There's so many bad reviews about him..I'd like to clarify. Yes, he likes to joke around and sometimes make fun of students. Yes, his test are hard. Listen and take notes on all lectures. Read the book. After test 1, ask for notecards or notes on test. He might say yes. If you study, you will pass. No papers, no projects. Just exams. No hw.
Do not his class, talking very fast on lecture, can not keep up with note take, need tape recorder for lecture, the test are super hard and can not miss any class because if you want to this class, very hard to get an A
The lectures were great! The only thing that I didn't like is that he was way too strict on the grading of the essays. He gives this class an opportunity to write an extra credit paper and he tells you what he wants to see. You do it, then he says you did it wrong. More strict than an English teacher on the writing.
Prof Cairo likes to lecture. All class which too me is very nice when it's about history. The problem I have is that he speaks very fast and I found that he covers pretty much everything on the notes in the test so prepare those hand muscles to write fast fast fast long tests hard grader great lectures
Prof. Cairo's lectures are always very interesting! From the minute that he walks in, he's ready to lecture, so don't be late! You must take plenty of notes & keep up with the readings to do well in this class. Your grade will be based off of 4 exams & maybe 1 extra credit assignment. You will have to work hard to pass!
Professor Cairo's lectures are what definitely makes this class. He was an excellent professor who knew his information! Would take his class again in a heartbeat. Tests are difficult, but worth the time.
This professor's lectures are awesome. You will be so interested and involved in what Professor Cairo has to say. Class is easy if you read and take notes.
The lectures are great, but everyone I know got their grade hurt by the tests. There are no assignments or homework in the class. The grade strictly relied on 4 exams and 1 quiz. And these tests were confusing. He used trick questions and had ridiculous specifications on how to write answers. I learned a lot, but the tests made it almost worthless.
Don't take his Summer classes
Professor Cairo always gives great lectures. The tests come out of the lectures and book so you need to be in class all the time or else you will miss a lot of notes. You also need to read the book constantly and make sure to write down everything he says. He only gives 4 tests and 1 quiz so if you do poorly on one it's hard to make up.
I love Professor Cairo! His lectures are very interesting. Tests are easy although the first one is challenging, everything else from then on is smooth sailing. No research reports, nothing. Just tests - all based on lecture! Gives extra credit. Sarcastic, but funny.
One of my better professors. His expectations were very clear: read and take good lecture notes and you'll pass as it's all the tests will be based on. Both textbooks were used (money worth spending) and his lectures were great. Allowed us to take tests customized by us. Extra credit offered if there's a Chicano based play/art exhibit/etc.
Professor Cairo is rocks at giving lectures. His lectures are interesting and you actually learn the History of whatever you're learning. Once you get past the first test they are all easy. Take his class! Lectures are awesome. Prepare to take notes. Has that dry kind of humor your Tio has.
Don' take his class. He lacks as a prof. for he has no teaching skills; example, no provide teaching & learning approaches tools.s He lectures are not based on the book, so no way to study and to memorize; no power point available on his points, so inconvenient for note taking. All he does is lecture which is ineffective to teaching and to study.
Best professor ever. He knows everything about everything and his lectures are interesting. Grade is based on 4 tests but the first one is the hardest on purpose. He's kind of intimidating and sarcastic but overall I really liked him. I wouldn't recommend taking him for summer or winter session, though, because there is a lot of reading.
Lectures are somewhat interesting, I love what I learned but this Prof was disliked by ALL. Doesn't like students. Thrives on power by embarrassing students. Unhelpful. Sarcastic. Rude. Inconsistent. Inflexible. Exams are extremely specific; be careful. To pass: TAKE DETAILED NOTES, and read the assignments. Memorize, memorize, MEMORIZE.
Don't take this class, you'll find him more absent than students will be. His lectures are okay, but his tests were filled with typos and spelling errors, and a multitude of trick questions, which he heavily relies on to give students bad grades. Find a different teacher, you'll be greatful for it.
It seems like he wants the students to fail. He is not specific with test prep, barely anything covered in lectures is on the test. You pretty much have to memorize your reading word for word. Harsh grader, terrible lectures.
WORST PROFESSOR EVER! his test are hard and his lectures are not helpful.
GET READY TO TAKE NOTES&READ!you have to know how to takes notes&be able to summarize the things he says during his lectures. The first couple of weeks he'll call on students to answer questions get it right&he won't call on you again. He'll mention things that are in the book so read. ONLY THE SLACKERS&lazy people HATE HIM.
Personally, I enjoyed his lectures. He is very original, no power points, tape recorders, electronics, just listen and take notes. He has a sarcastic sense of humor but no harm intended, just makes class interesting. Half of his exams are from his own lectures so If you take good notes and do the readings you can do good on the exams.
One of the most tough professors I've taken at pcc. Does not provide study guide and wants everything memorized. Ex; If you use a pen instead of pencil he'll make a big fuzz. keep this in mind before taking him. I thought he wasn't going to be so bad but he's definitely a tough grader.
Do not take his class. It seems like he wants his class to fail. Class is only based off 4 exams. Exams are very tricky and if you question why you got the grade you want he won't help to improve.
He is knowledgeable however some people aren't meant to teach. His grading scale is terrible. His test aren't difficult but there is no study guide to refer to. We had "study secessions" in class and when a student would ask him if a certain topic would be on the test he would respond with "um no yes" and that was not helpful.
I don't know what everybody is talking about, I took history7b during winter, and it was amazing. He is a bit meticulous about tests and the way you answer, but nevertheless GREAT lectures, and makes sure that everybody would participate in a dialogue during the lectures. History class never been this fun before!
I studied for his tests for days before hand and I still received C's. It was incredible how many ambiguous trick questions he gave out. He is a very tough grader. I would never take a course with him again. Nope, I'm not in the mood for GPA suicide. His class was the only blemish I had when finals were over.
Professor Cairo's class is awesome. I learned so much while in this class. The lectures are really great too. The way he lectures makes the subject much more interesting and engaging.
Don't recommend him to first-time college students. He was one of the first classes I took and it was so hard. A year later, I can appreciate it and take another one of his classes. No class work, good lectures. It all boiled down to four tests that made or broke your grade, so study those books well. No essays, but detailed test and procedure.
He is sassy and sometimes spendes up to 10mins of class just being condescending to answers. What was on the test sometimes didnt reflect the reading. Lackluster lectures but you can answer a good amount of the test questions off his lectures but most of it is off the books.
Was always nervous going to class, he picks on people randomly, usually people who were late to class or seem shy. Class is based off 4 exams 250pts each and he gives no study guides, you just have to ask him if certain things will be on the test. He gets mad when you dont answer his questions in class and talks down to the students quite a bit.
Cairo was an okay professor. He only gives four classes and they basically make up for your grade. This class is super lecture heavy so make sure you show up. Only offered extra credit once. Overall, the class was tough.
The Best Teacher ever. i did fail because i had taken him my first year of college and was a full time student and full time job made it difficult to read the books. I learned a lot in his class regardless of his
Lectures are heavy but he does his best to make the material stick with you & you'll be fine if your notes are detailed. The test usually are 70% from his verbally lectures and 30% from the book. However, get to reading because he picks on people to answer in class from the reading. Every lecture is important. READ READ READ!
Professor Cairo is awesome. He comes off very serious & stern, but also has a funny, sarcastic side to him. He never gives out homework other than to read the book. HE DOES allow notes in the form of questions & answers to help on the tests. Throughout his class there are 4 tests, 250 pts each, mixed from thebook and his lectures. Would take again.
Best way to pass his class is to take Notes from his Lectures AND Memorize them. Most Of His Answers are from his lectures and some from the book. Book Must NEED Miss Class won't pass, but his Lectures though were Great.
Don't take this course if you're trying to transfer. Your GPA will suffer.
Cairo at first seems stirct and serious but he does open up during his lecture. He is funny and informative on whats he is talking about. Test are not too bad just make sure whatever he says in lecture, Write It Down. 90% of all his questions are usually from his lectures. Just make sure to read to fill the gaps. Dont get discouraged he is great.
Professor Cairo is an AMAZING teacher. Professor Cairo may be strict, but he just expects you to try hard and follow BASIC instruction; all very reasonable requests. I just barely missed getting an A in his class and I didn't do the extra credit he offered. I don't understand why some people find him difficult - he's great at teaching the material.
This professor is not the ideal professor to take for U.S. history 7b take someone else who has patience with the students. He doesn't provide any study guide so it works against you in exams. Expects students to read his mind and if you don't he'll condescend you in front of the class. Avoid taking him since most of my classmates were not happy.
It's not open notes nor open book during his exams. Remembering dates, names, and specific events, in their order. No hw, just to write your notes into questions. (Optional but helps) His test's have a specific format. Pen for the blue book, pen for writing your name and info on the board onto the scantron, then pencil for bubbling in the scantron
He assigns 3 textbooks. THREE, and he will make you read chapters and passages from each of them. His lectures are interesting, but he sometimes intentionally leaves out major details so you can find them in the reading. Tests are easy to pass, but hard to get an A. Questions come from lecture and readings. If you don't like reading don't take this
I took Cairo's class as a first year college student. He came off as intimidating but he is actually a great Professor. I have never liked History, but his lectures were so interesting. Your grade is based off of 4 tests throughout the semester. He gives extra credit opportunities in group work activities. Overall I really enjoyed his class.
Lecture only, no powerpoint or writing on the board. His tests were mainly on readings from the textbook, which he didnt specify to the class. He talks too fast to write everything down. Interesting lectures and will call on everyone at least a few times in the semester. Tests make up your grade but at least theres extra credit.
Worst professor ever. This class hurts your gpa.
I'm two weeks into History 7B with this professor and I can already tell I'm in for a wild and more than likely unsuccessful ride. Before taking this class, please ask yourself the following: Would I get open heart surgery from a doctor who didn't care if I lived or died? If the answer is no... pick a different class/professor.
Worst professor Ive ever had to deal with.
Knows his stuff, but hes a tough grader. The grade boils down to four tests and some extra credit to boost it, but not by a whole lot. He also tended to patronize the students. I didnt appreciate looking for answers in the documentaries like some scavenger hunt. As an older, working adult, I felt I was back in grade school.
I took both History of Latin America and History of Mexican-Americans with him and it was all good. The tests were easy if you read and show up to lecture. The lectures were interesting and accessible. I would take this professor again. He made history fascinating.
My favorite professor ever! He is very strict and straight to the point which I enjoyed. He gives you all the information that you need. Professor Cairo is going to give you a good grade if he can see that you are trying and putting in effort. Some people in my class found it difficult but I think that he was amazing!
This prof was absolutely awesome! I took him for both HIST30 and 9B and his lectures are mesmerizing its like listening to a story the whole time. He is a little sarcastic but its all in good fun. You definitely have to read your textbook and take good notes of the lecture as the tests are 80% lecture, 20% textbook.
If you've ever been to a school in Mexico, he'll take you back. He refers to students by their last names, picks on the ones who aren't paying attention, and points out if your responses aren't detailed. He's a great teacher if you don't mind the strong character. His tests are lecture heavy, so take notes.
This was the worst class ever during my undergraduate years. His lectures are inconsistent with the material that we were reading. Professor Cairo is unhelpful struggling students and speaks to students in a condescending tone. I transferred to a selective four year university, but had to replace the F from his class. Do not recommend this class.
Amazing Lectures....
I never cheated on a test, studied, went to class on time and went to most classes, and went to tutoring. Still got a D. He is not accessible outside of class. Weird office hours and barely uses Canvas so you don't know your grade at all. Won't pick up the phone when I called. Lectures are ok but tests are hard. Would not recommend taking his class
Looks for very specific answers on tests but has good lectures. At first, you can perceive him as tough and strict but after you get to know him, hes an interesting person to talk to and might even be described as fun.
Professor Cairo is very knowledgable about his field. He is straightforward, clear, welcomes questions and clarifications, and gives plenty of time to study. 80% of test answers come from lectures and 20% come from textbook readings. Attendance matters, so if you miss a lecture or a half, you fall very behind. Luckily, he records lectures.
Personally, I thought Professor Cairo was okay, a bit unorganized and tended to just speak with no slides so it is hard to follow him all the way through sometimes. In addition, he tends to be aggressive and rude sometimes so it makes students feel uncomfortable. Overall, he was an okay professor and I got an A but he wasn't my favorite person
Unnecessarily HARD. 1st-he treats the college students like they're in Catholic Elementary School. 2nd- PPL excuse his sarcasm as funny. not fun/funny, RUDE. 3rd- won't let you know your grade, loves grading hard with condescending commentary. Retook the course with another professor and got an A. Prof like him are what make ppl hate school#facts
His tests are mostly based off of his lectures, so be ready to take lots of notes. Ask questions or ask for help after class. He allowed either open book OR open notes on his last final because I spoke up with my struggles and the classes performance. It is not an easy class, but not hard either. He's very sarcastic, but he does care.
Professor was Rude, Unnecessarily difficult, and wasteful of time. Wouldn't recommend taking him.
I had to WD my class because I couldnt pass the test. I never missed a class. The issue is the professors expects 9 hours of lecture to stick in your brain when your taking a test. HW included only test and Reading. He was very serious and talked like a robot.
This professor was very specific about his lectures and focused on micro details on the tests. Take all the notes and prepared for a rough ride. Coming from a military background this man is like a TI. Be prepared to be belittled and have your intelligence insulted. He has no sympathy and and very little empathy. Your grade your responsibility.
His organization in class is chaos. The syllabus is not what you will be doing everything is mixed, assignments, quizzes, and exams. Expect to do work with less than one day of anticipation. If you ask for clarifications on assignments he won't tell you, he will send you to read the book and check announcements. You have to remind him of due dates
I had to work my ass off with my study group to get a decent grade. If you're a lone wolf, I DON'T recommend taking this class unless you're a real history major. Ngl, he's pretty cool, but he's a tough shell to crack. If you don't ask questions during mandatory lectures, he won't tell you. Must take notes during lectures if you want to pass!
He gave a really good lecture, yes one lecture, and seemed like a nice guy, but professor wise, I wouldn't take him again, there were maybe 5 or 6 things to do the whole semester no assignments no worksheets just exams and quizzes that had nothing to do with the textbook readings he assigned.
Honestly I thought this class was going to be easy but I was wrong this is a hard class and I talk to the Professor about my struggles and didn't understood. If you know for sure your going to be struggling in this class then I don't recommend it.
I signed up for an account just to rate the professor. I love him, I think he's a great guy, but his method of teaching is the absolute worst. Walk into class and it's full of the professor talking and talking and talking and talking while the students are responsible for taking notes. Do not recommend if this method of teaching unmotivates you.
This class STRESS ME OUT A LOT NO ONE should take this class. And the fact that he is a harsh grader.
I took his history 007B class via online only and it was pretty easy. Your grade is based on 4 exams and 4 quizzes plus, 4 extra credit opportunities. All answers are either from the book or his lectures which, are pretty easy to follow. He usually never opens the quizzes or exams on time so you will need to constantly remind him.
I took Hist 081 with Professor Cairo over the Fall 2022 and it was an good learning experience on Mexico and Mexican American history. Professor Cairo is a no nonsense type of guy but excellent with lectures, engaging with students, and most importantly challenge's students to learn and think. Show up to class, TAKE NOTES, and STUDY for exams.
Like many others, thos class involved the student doing much of the work to educate him/herself. Most of the work was reading and tests. However, his EC work, was not EC work at all, as they were counted against you if you did badly. He also expected me to remind him of his own errors on the syllubus, so watch out for the correct deadline dates.
Lots of reading assignments. His lectures were fairly confusing also. Class itself felt self-paced and easy if you do the work. It was not engaging at all for me and it was more robotic than anything.
Professor Cairo is a very nice person and as long as you show up for class he is very caring. His lectures are not very interesting but they get you the information that you need to succeed. Tests and quizzes were online/open book for an in person course so it was an easy A. He is somewhat disorganized but just ask him questions and he can clarify!
I took Professor Cairo for History of Mexico and it was ok. He's very lecture heavy and doesn't use slides at all. Make sure you really pay attention so you can take the best notes possible. He calls on students to answer questions and does so throughout the semester so that everyone participates. He can also be kinda rude sometimes.
Trust me, take History with a different professor. This POS either has anger problems, power trippin, or just doesn't want to see students succeed. Doesn't even understand extra credit. He says a quiz is extra credit but it's just an extra quiz that can lower your grade. For Ex 10/20 is not 10 extra points that's an F. 0 exceptions on anything also
Book required. No hw, but quizzes 50 points and tests 200. About 30-50 pages of reading per quiz and test. Has his own grading scale outside of canvas and does not grade anything until the semester is over and changes your grade according to his scale. For example, I was passing on canvas, but failing according to his scale. Take that as you will.
Extremely rude, old-school style of teaching that relies on embarrassing his students into participation. Creates a hostile environment through his teaching style and is condescending towards students. Gives extensive tests where majority of the class fails, expect to lose points on tiny details mentioned in a lecture and never see correct answers
He's honestly a very cool professor and you can actually learn a lot in his lectures ! Don't be scared of failing this class, as long if you do the extra credit your grade goes up drastically! I thought I was gonna fail but in the end that extra credit literally boosted me my grade up by a ton!
Do not take this professor. He grades tests harshly and based majority of tests on lectures, in which he doesn't remember half of what he says. Majority of my class failed or dropped out because of his horrible attitude and way he treats students. He openly bullies students who do not read the material or take notes and makes classrooms hostile.
All in all he really knew his stuff. As long as you went to class and paid attention during lectures as well as take good notes you were good for the exams. You did have to read but they weren't a lot. Just be ready to know you stuff. He was clear and if you ever had questions you could always ask.
You might think he is tough at first but you really just need to pay attention to lectures and take notes it helps that they are very interesting. I really enjoyed the lectures and in class discussions. Not much homework just reading but most of stuff he covers in class . I found this professor funny aswell.
I took Professor Cairo for Mexican American History. At first, he seemed like a strict curmudgeon; then I noticed how easy it was for other students to skate by if they chose. His approach is to ensure you take the course seriously. He is fair. I ended up with a B+, and was dismayed it wasn't an A, yet I remain grateful. Glad I took this course.
Would not recommend this professor Lectures were long and instructor is tense. Could have been a fun course but it was way harder than anticipated
DO NOT take this class if you have a 4.0, this will hurt your GPA. I recorded his lectures, had AI turn them into notes for tests and yet somehow still missed questions on the test "according to lecture". He clearly doesn't remember what he says in class because I'll put something bar for bar and still get it wrong? STAY AWAY FROM HIS CLASS!!!
Instructions for tests were inconsistent, and the material tested often didn't align with what he said it would include. He stated that both readings and lectures would be covered on exams, but in reality, the tests were based almost entirely on the lectures. There were also multiple mistakes on quizzes and when brought up he doesn't reply.
** He isn't a good professor**. The way he sets up grades is dumb. You don't know your grade till the class is over. His lectures make NO sense. Exams and quizzes only no homework. I could've passed with a decent grade but he made it impossible even when I reached out. 3 points away from a decent grade. Don't take him. This is My first bad grade
I wouldn't recommend this professor. The tests are poorly written. I had to provide screenshots of my answers to have my score adjusted, and he rarely responds to messages. The grading system is complicated, requiring extra steps to calculate your true score. Also, the test questions focus mainly on lectures, despite instructions saying otherwise.
Prof Cairo is a funny, engaging professor! There's 7 tests/quizzes (no hw), but lectures are interesting, tests are easy (@ home) & exact page #s given. Take detailed notes (directly based on his wording, don't use AI), ask questions, read & that's an easy A; plus there are LOTS of opportunities for extra credit. Don't be scared out of the class!!
Professor Cairo is a great professor! His lectures are engaging and he gives great feedback to questions. You MUST go to class if you want to pass! All tests are online and based directly off lecture and readings. BEWARE: Professor Cairo does not typically have a way of contacting him, make sure you ask questions in class.
