HE IS AN AWESOME SOCIOLOGY TEACHER, HE MAKES THE CLASS FUN AND INTERESTING, HE ACTUALLY LIKES TO HEAR THE STUDENTS VIEWS ABOUT THE CHAPTERS THEY ARE COVERING.
He makes this class very interesting. He has a relaxed way of teaching that definately gets the students interested in learning the subject
Really chill teacher! Makes the class interesting and willing to help. E-mails you back right away! Does take home tests too!!! Great teacher and is pretty easy, I highly recommend!
Pretty easy class. Does take attendance into consideration for grade, so try not to miss too many classes. Tests aren't that difficult if you do the reading and study guides.
Awesome class, everyone should take this class to learn about our themselves and society. Professor Perez is fun and informative as well as helpful. He is open-minded and enjoys class discussion. No one could ever be bored in his class.
Summer2008-Solid Prof.,Decent Class.Great Person who is quite witty,Class is all lecture and grade is based on 4 tests(which he let's you use any written notes), with few ez hw and attendence points and also the only difficult part of the class which is 6pg.paper.other than that simple to pass,Low textbook usage cuz all lecture,Would Recommend him
He is a great professor. He makes the class very fun and exciting.
Mr. Perez clearly enjoys teaching and disgussing related topics with the class and encourages participation. He is willing to assist you with any assignments and I really appreciated that. If he offered another class on my campus I would take it.
Very wise and really helpful instructor with senses based in reality. I wish every college professor could follow his example, he truly cares and loves what he teaches.
Mr Perez is a fun teacher to have at 7 in the morning, all of his lectures are very interesting. He is quick to respond emails very helpful.
Mr. Perez is a great teacher. He lets you use notes and book on the EXAM (not quiz) and is always open to discussions in his class. It is safe to skim over the chapters but i only studied an hour before the days of an exam and i got a B in his class. If he taught other sociology classes i would take those classes as well, he is a good teacher.
Hands down, one of the best teaches i have ever had. if you miss a class, you can use email to get in touch with him and he'll give you details from the class you missed so you dont fall behind. He's really easy going and very funny. he does like participation. preps you for the tests and grades on a curve and gives lots of extra credit. love him!
he was one of the coolest teachers i have had so far. he's pretty chill and very helpful. funny guy and totally cute :)
Just finished summer his summer class. Very entertaining and crystal clear. He curves tests and gives extra credit. Had a paper due every week. Very helpful. His lectures are good but students should really read the book because notes itself wont help in tests. Talk up once in a while. He grades papers pretty easy. Would love to take another class!
His summer class was extemely informative. He relates topics to daily life. Very passionate. enjoys participation. not very hard grader, just wants you to grasp the concept. easy going, and gets back to emails right away. I would DEFINITELY RECOMMEND this prof. Not difficult to get an a, if you put some effort.
I have to agree with all of you, he?s class is very useful and interesting.
I took this class during the winter semester. His assignments are very easy. His tests are a little harder, so make sure you study. But he always tells you exactly what you need to know for the test. I ended up with a B, should of been an A, if i would of studied for the first test. Overall Awesome professor, and has a great atmosphere to his class
cool teacher , funny
I was so scared to take any sociology class as I am a accounting major and deal so much better with numbers! :) Well he was awesome!!!! His class was easy to understand, you could work ahead, and easy to pass. He made everything so easy and useful. I would defiantly take a class from him again!
DONT take him! his totally points is only 200, which means if you lose 20pts, you will get a B. He barely replys your email.
His book is so expensive. You can never earn an A even you work hardly.
Professor does not communicate with students and takes a very long time to reply to emails. A large percentage of his grading is subjective based on participation points. The more your post on the class blog, the more points you receive. Working, parenting and attending school doesn't allow useless blogging time about irrelevant subjects!
do not ever take his online classes, it is wasting time and money, he does not give specific date and time for discusstion questions when you submit you will get 0 because you are late.
Very clear professor and straight to the point. Reading is a must and the quizzes are all based on the reading. Be sure you understand your reading. Initially had trouble accessing the online text book, but great, fun class to take and participate in.
Took his class in winter 2011, had to write five essays, but the topics of the essay weren't that difficult. He's a great professor and very helpful to helping students to learn the material. I recommend you take his course, he's a great professor who loves teaching sociology and makes it interesting and related to topics of today's things
took this class online, initially had a hard time w/access code but he was very helpful. he's a great teacher and a funny guy and you know exactly what to expect and when everything is due. he gives lots of reminders :)
Mr.P is funny and he has a great way of explaining things. He helps one learn learn terms by relating them to real life experiences.
He is one of the best professors I've had. Really enjoyed the critical thinking teaching in his class. Easy grading and very flexible.
Really enjoyed Professor Perez's Soc-1 class and look forward to taking more with him, hopefully I can catch one of his on campus classes next time. I struggled a bit with our media analysis paper but he was always just an email away. The class wasn't hard at all but the work made you really think.
I took a hybrid class and you needed the book and a course code. I didn't really like his way of teaching, it didn't corespond with the tests or homework. It's a hard class
Tests: Open note & open book. Notes: Powerpoints that you can download from blackboard and print out to use on the test. Homework: Relatively short free response questions/topics. **Allows you to use technology in class (respectively). I personally didn't buy the book, I rented it online for a week on kindle (for the final).
He teaches from the book but he applies the curriculum to everyday life. Classes followed nearly the same structure daily. He would lecture from a powerpoint that students can download ahead of time, and apply what we've covered to current events and problems. Make sure you stay on top of your work though!
I took his online soc1 class which was easy. Discussion board easy. You have to read the whole book 13 long chapters. He quiz each section at a time like chapters 4-7 on one quiz! Only 2essay. Take good notes an you will pass. Takes a long time to grade work!
I found this class to be quite a beneficial and enjoyable experience. As long as you study the text and come to class prepared to participate you will do fine. It is a lot of reading, but in the end it was all worth it- especially if you are an ADJ major. He does allow open-book exams. But be prepared to face some tough and/or ambivalent questions.
He has a friendly personality & eager to teach when he comes inside the classroom. Likes discussions in class/group discussion. Open book quizzes! Questions can be tricky so read the book. Essays are simple (3). Lets you go over missed q's if you ask outside of class. Understanding. Interesting topic.
Really nice, educated, (handsome), and helpful professor. Open-minded person when it comes to class discussion. Respectful and creates a safe environment for students to share their thoughts. Get ready to have your world views challenged!
He is a really cool guy. I enjoyed his class, he makes the material very interesting. Read and participate because participation matters. Put A LOT of effort on the research paper, it pretty much determines your grade in the class.
hes amazing! open book tests but you dont need the book. i would suggest watching the slideshows on blackboard and taking notes during the lectures
hes amazing! open book tests but you dont need the book. i would suggest watching the slideshows on blackboard and taking notes during the lectures. get involved in discussions, it makes it way better
Great professor, I would definitely take him again. Recommend his class to everyone.
I took sociology for my first college class during the summer course online. I really enjoyed this class. I would defiantly take it again. Any questions I had I would email him and he would respond in a timely manner.
Very few assignments which makes it hard to get an A. You have to have perfect grades if you want to do well. Also, very he is very vague on his instructions and outlines on assignments. You barely learn anything in this class. No notes and test. It is optional to read in this class and you discuss about life experiences.
This guy doesn't care about his students at all. He is not clear about assignments and questions about these assignments were met with poor answers. Plus it is very important to do excellent on all the work because there wasn't a lot. The discussions in class were okay but I feel like I learned very little compared to any other 1st sem soc student
take home quizes, final is take home as well. kinda hot in a daddy way. lectures are engaging and funny. respected and respectful. group presentations but not to bad! not alot of homework so kinda cool. there are text books but its more so reading. lectures are online on blackboard as well.
As a hybrid class, he has most assignment on blackboard. He also includes his PowerPoints from class as well as providing extra material that can be helpful to your understanding. I think hes a great teacher (quite dashing) and his lectures are engaging and very interesting. Hes a bit tough on grading. So every point counts.
He give great lectures and post all power points online. All tests as online.
Overall, a good experience. He is fair but also wants you to work for your grade. A couple easy essays and quizzes that are pretty hard. Read the chapters a couple times and you'll be fine.
I took his class online and during summer so it was a quick course, expected more discussions but really was a great course.
I expected more from this professor. He wasn't really open to suggestions or cared what students say! He tends to be blunt.
Prof. Perez is a nice and funny guy. He teaches mainly from the text book but will incorporate relevant or current events into lectures to keep it interesting. An easy A if you turn in your work, participate, and show up for class. Quizzes/tests can be difficult if you are not prepared, but he will curve it depending.
His lectures are very supplemental for tests and quizzes, so attendance is very important. He teaches from the book, so as long as you read, you're going to be solid. He's very chill and the work load isn't crazy. The worst thing we did in the class was 4 page essay and it was a book report. If you want an A and learn something, take this teacher
Great guy, average professor. No HW. His lectures and discussions were kinda interesting. Many test/quiz questions are oddly specific and not from lecture so expect to study/read entire chapters in the book. Group presentation/paper which CAN be annoying depending on people you get. I definitely applied myself and BARELY managed an A. Tough grader.
Since I took online, there was little interaction between him and his students so he was an ok professor to me. Everything was obviously online including the final. I suggest emailing him instead of trying to message him in canvas if you have any questions. Also, there were discussions which helped me understand sociology a lot more.
Took online during winter, interaction with professor was minimal. Be prepared to teach yourself and be sure to use outside resources to help your understanding. Really makes you connect your replies in the discussions to concepts in the book and to sociology as a whole. Not a tough class but not an easy A, you have to work for a good grade.
Dr. Perez is amazing! He is approachable and understanding. You can definitely see that he cares for his students. Not too mention he is always available via email, office hours, or through text. Its also nice to have a LatinX professor who understands your struggles. He definitely made a huge impact in my life and made me enjoy RCC/school again.
For an online class, I have to say this class is generally easy. Weekly discussions, occasional quizzes, several papers, book analysis, and the final (Sorry if I'm forgetting anything). He really wants you to think about sociology in relation to current events and issues. You will definitely earn a lot!
Told everyone the first day of class criminal justice majors will have a hard time passing my class. Thats 1/2 of his class. 1st lecture was about how rape is technically a natural occurrence in the animal kingdom! I go to answer his questions he would blow me off or completely disregard my response with an opposite answer. Unprofessional
I have never once failed a class before and yet I am currently failing. We are given about 4 or 5 papers throughout the semester and if one isn't good enough your whole grade goes down - by a lot. The lectures aren't great either, his grading is NOT FAIR and no matter how hard you try if he doesn't agree with your work it'll be an F. don't take him
perez is literally the best hes super honest and open, gives clear feedback and wil literally work with you. i was honestly scared to tak his class becausei heard he gives a lot of work and grades hard but it was so interesting to learn about and he really opens your mind. hes one of my favorite professors at rcc, 10/10 id take again if i had to:)
Professor Perez is great but he honestly grades papers very thoroughly !! and hard thats for sure theres know way to get full points on the discussions only like one or 2 people earn the full 10 points. no extra credit offered replies pretty fast 3 papers 25 points each 2 quizzes midterm and final textbook is required
I love Eddie! He is personable, accessible, and hilarious. He's always there for his students and he values in-class participation. His lectures are super easy to follow as long as you're paying attention and are willing to participate. This class was one of my favorite experiences at RCC, and I recommend Perez to other students constantly.
Took him when COVID hit and he was a very understanding professor. Made you work for the grade but gave great feedback. Essays were essential to your grade but you could talk to him about how you can improve it before you turn it in. I absolutely loved his energy and his ability to connect with his students, especially during a difficult time.
Very easy class but there few assignments so if you miss any your grade will go down. Had a total of 3 assignments and 6 discussions. There was no tests, quizzes, or final.
First, he isnt a hard teacher but I felt like he didnt care about if we understood things. We have such little assignments that it if you do bad on one do not expect to get a good overseas grade. He is a bit rude and made me feel dumb because all of my discussion he would have something bad to say. I got a 78.3% and he told me i deserved it.
Professor Perez is great! I like him!
Professor Perez is a really good professor. I learned a lot from this professor. Although his lectures are not mandatory definitely go to them they helped a lot. Professor Eddie is a really fair grader. If you read you will pass! He's very approachable don't be afraid to ask questions! Would definitely take him again.
Dr Perez is a true teacher that wants his students to learn not just for grades. His lectures are interesting and engaging. He understands students needs very flexible and helpful.
This professor had given me a failing grade for our infograph for not citing correctly, when I pointed out to him that I did in fact do it correctly he laughed! He told me my grade would stay the same because I took to long to talk to him about it it took me 3 days because he wasnt available and I had sent him an email he claimed to not received.
I took this class over the winter, and I believe he was fair. He went as far as to reach out to me through my personal phone number and let me know about issues with canvas so I really appreciated the effort.
Professor Perez is a nice guy but he's a pretty tough grader. It felt like nothing was good enough for him. Every time I turned in an assignment I would get marked down with no explanation as to why. I would email and ask with no response. Kind of frustrating.
He gives feedback & his lectures are ok. I understand you want to make sure people know about sociology but a lot of people in the class are doing it because its a GE. He will grade like its an upper division course & expects upper division answers. I gave almost 2 pages long for a discussion plus replies and got 8.5/10. Its RCC not Harvard.
I took this class online for college credit, and it was pretty straightforward. He does grade based on how he believes you've connected to the sociological idea, not really competition, but he'll happily meet up with you to discuss his reasons for that grade. It was an easy A as long as you put in a good amount of effort for the assignments.
Way too difficult for a gen ed class. Makes you write EVERYTHING in APA standard which I had never done and he doesn't teach you how to do it. Expects you to learn everything by yourself and if you need help he tells you to Google it. 2-3 assignments a week and they're not short or easy. You're only allowed to pull information from the textbook too
Professor Perez is personable, available, and has realistic expectations. You do have to do the reading. Also, he is easy to contact and will meet and discuss any questions. I took this as an online class and you had to participate in 5 discussions with a three-part research paper on a topic of your choosing.
Horrible. He is adding work that wasn't on the syllabus. Nobody in this class likes how he grades. You have to zoom meetto answer questions about his assignments because they are so impossible to understand. I'm working on four degrees so, you can take it from me. I would never take this guy again in any class that he teaches.
Took this course for an honors contract. Very laid back professor but hands on when you need help. Feedback from him for my papers helped my research paper and presentation. One required textbook for the class, but honors required another for assigned reading. Not many assignments, no final either.
I enjoyed his online class. You do have to read the textbook to get a good grade, but that's a no-brainer. His recorded lecture videos were straight to the point which I liked and it definitely helped me understand the textbook's content better. There are some essays but no final. If you put in the effort and take it seriously, you will do well.
-attendance wasn't mandatory for your grade, but if you miss too much he may drop you from the class -had enough time to do assignments, yet he does grade pretty hard (everything is out of 10 points) -always there if you need help and often lets you revise your papers for better a grade -doesn't give tests (no final) -has interesting lectures
This professor does not give very good instructions on assignments and then marks off points when you don't include something he never said you had to. He grades everything out of 10 but wont give anything higher then a 9.5. He states that this is easier but really you can only get an A if you get a 9.5 on everything. I had a 4.0 GPA before this.
Not too many assignments for this class, no final either but he is a tough grader.
Do not take this professor at all costs. I'm not sure how he even qualifies to be a professor. Take the other sociology professors at RCC. All he does is talk about his political ideas, no topics of sociology are taught at all. He also shows the class a video of his dead daughter being loaded into an ambulance, just traumatizing with no warning.
Do not take this class.
Do not take this professor for sociology 1. He is overall confusing and grades things last minute.
If this is your first time in college and you take the time to come and talk with him, he is very understanding, I one hundred percent recommend him. His grading system is a bit different but if you are doing your job its a for sure good grade. If I could I would get into his class all the time.
