This professor is easy compared to many of the other science professors I have had. He is very friendly and usually willing to help you understand difficult concepts. Highly recommend.
Yo bro, your way too creepy for me!!!!!!!!!
Face it, if you're a young chick with a low cut blouse and you giggle a lot and pay attention to him, you're completely set in this class. EVERYONE knows it. I wasn't any of the above and got a B and was glad to be out of there. He's full-on creepy.
i have to agree w/ the "****ed" comments. he likes to emphasize the word "conjugation" & any terms that have anything to deal with sex. its truly disgusting..be prepared to hear the words "interestingly enough" and "guess what" at least 30 times in each class session. exams were not that hard.
Hard to understand. Tests were very difficult and his notes were HORRIBLE. He did everything on Powerpoint, which was nice, except that each chapter had about 40 SLIDES!! Yikes.
He is disorganized and can't explain things on a level that the students understand. He is annoyed when people to not understand him. His class is too hard and indepth for a required bio class, I was very dissapointed with him. Tests are hard to understand, not clear on what he wants.
He is very passionate about microbiology. Problem is 90% of the students are not. It's a very detailed class. Many of us are pre-nursing or nutrition and taking the class only to meet requirements. I'm getting an "A" and I hate the class. But, Dr. R is always helpful during office hours.
horrible notes, does not give point values of questions on tests, has a hard time explaining ideas to students (gets frustrated if we don't understand and tells use to know how to do it via the book for an exam) doesn't like questions, and takes forever to return test grades!!!!!!!!
If you don't have to take him, don't!!! What they say it's true. If your a girl your set, you don't know what he is saying most of the time, don't ask questions in class because he doesn't know also. And, he gets mad when he doesn't know. What the hell is that, then tell us to know it because it's going to be on the exam. What the Hell!!!!
Robleto is one of the easier biology teachers out there, I thought class was pretty easy and his notes were detailed. Pretty helpful if you actually approach him during office hours. I got an A in the class and I am guy, so don't listen to everybody else. You got put time into the class to get a good grade.
Robleto is a great person who grades fairly. He understands when "emergencies" happen so just talk to him about them. He also gives HUGE curves at the end of the semester. Overall he's a really nice guy. He's hot, too!
He's an amazing person who will bend over backwards to make sure that you're comfortable with the material. He'll also put his name on anything that will help you with your career if you do well in his class (ex. letter of recommendation). I truly enjoyed his class and his personality. PLUS- He is in NO WAY **** as the previous reviews have said.
I wouldn't recommend him for Microbiology - maybe bacterial genetics. He gets frustrated easily with the class and seems to have a difficult way explaining things in a way that students can understand. He's very nice, though, if you attend his office hours.
he was very impatient when it came to asking him questions. he is somewhat understanding when it comes to emergency situations. he's nice, but he can't be teaching this hard of a subject. his notes are terrible, and it's hard to understand him.
Nice guy. Fun class. Easy A.
he was okay as a teacher. he was very unorganized and very flirty so i felt a little uncomfortable
Very impatient. Always rushed... I thought office hours were FOR the students' benefit? If he weren't so nice to look at, I'd hate him.
Doctor Robleto is very good looking, but I would not recommend the class.
He is a hot latin professor, love the hair, but he knows it so he has a big head. He is very flirty but does try to help you if you need help. He does have a temper, so you need to know something about the material before you ask him.
This class is pretty difficult, but the lab is pretty easy and helpful and helps your final grade. Robleto is extremely helpful professor, who is willing to go over things whenever his office door is open. Very understanding, and also curved this class at the end. Lectures are somewhat unclear, but overall he is a nice and helpful professor.
class was hard, no curve at the end, lied about the extra credit he promised to the class. Not recommend to take it, but he is nice and good looking tho.
he is by far one of the worst professors i have ever had. his powerpoints are incomprehensible, and he talks in circles, so it is very difficult to follow during lecture.
DR. ROBLETO GIVES YOU HIS SLIDES BUT BE SURE TO TAKE LOTS OF NOTES BECAUSE THE SLIDES ARE CLOSE TO WORTHLESS. HIS EXAMS ARE ALL ESSAY/PROBLEM FORMAT. HE ONLY GOES OVER A TYPE OF PROBLEM ONCE SO BE SURE YOU'RE THERE FOR IT. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!! STUDYING FOR THIS CLASS WILL END UP CONSUMING A LOT OF TIME AND THE GRADE DOESN'T REFLECT THIS!
Dr. Robelto is the hardest professor I've ever had (so far). His exams are difficult and hardly reflect his slides. He's often times hard to understand. I wouldn't recommend to take him as your micro professor.
i can't see how ANY student can say nice things about his teaching style/testing method. it has to be himself writing those nice things so he can actually have students take this course with him..I would NOT recommend this professor. 50% avgs thru the first two exams, and most students are nursing majors needing solid B's.
Insanely difficult. Much more like a graduate student teacher for Microbiology. Notes from powerpoint and book are virtually useless. Teaches us stuff at very beginning what we learn at the very end of the school year. Half of class failing. Do not recommend
This professor is HORRIBLE! You can barely understand half the stuff he says, especially the names of complex microorganisms! I really loved the lab but the class was ridiculous! The tests were really hard and he did not prepare us at all in lecture. He can also be a jerk
I've had some bad professors at other schools, but he tops it! If it means waiting another semester or two, wait so you can take it with someone else. He makes you feel stupid and doesn't answer questions. "Forgets" meetings you set up with him or things he said, expects everyone to already know and love everything about microbiology.
Not an easy class by any means but it's still possible to do well. Dr. Robleto is great in office hours, provided you bring questions with you. He expects the same in class. Read material beforehand, study like hell and you'll do fine. If you're a slacker don't bother taking this class.
Dr. Robelto is by far one of the toughest professors on campus! His slides are basically useless unless you frantically writedown everything he says verbatum. The exams he gives are excruciatingly difficult with the final being cummulative. He DOES NOT believe in a curve. More than 50% of the class will undoubtedly fail. Micro is a "selection."
I have no clue why this person is teaching genetics...he cannot even explain slides and becomes confused on almost everything. He does not know how to teach. By far the worst professor i've ever had.
horrible teacher. maybe not the worst cause you can actually understand his english, too bad u just cant understand him. do not take him if you have the chance.
Its sad to see how defensive and sensitive a professor gets when he doesn't know how to answer questions or explain his own slides. English is really poor! Class is moderately difficult same as any, cant complain there.
Dr. Robleto does not know how to properly teach a class nor does he know the subject of Genetics well enough to be teaching it. His tests are not hard but his questions are very random properly taken from another source! I suggest doing some independent studying if you are going to take this class. In all honesty he is just teaching for the $$$$$$$
I hope he brings in lots of research coin for the department 'cause he is useless as a 'Genetics' professor. No one with a triple digit IQ should bother with this poor excuse for a teaching prof. Students had to correct him routinely,he's not clear nor concise and was frequently confused. It's NOT d/t any language barrier. UNLV should be embarrassed
He's horrible, avoid him if at all possible. The test questions were random, obscure details from the book that he never even mentioned in class. He's not very good about the wording of questions either. He's terrible at math, he spent almost one whole lecture period on one math problem- not a hard one either, he just got himself confused. AVOID!
Caution! I was lucky to pull off a B+, but not because I studied the genetics manual on my own, but because it was merely due to chance. There was nothing I could have learn about genetics that I could have learned from reading the textbook, by not going to lecture. Lectures were pointless. It's was not his accent, it was his teaching skills!
AVOID AT ALL COST! He does not know how to teach at all! Exams are confusing with terrible wording. The TAs would have to help him proofread, but it's still horrible. Don't know why he's still teaching, when other professors, TAs, students, and even himself knows he's disastrous in teaching
One of the worst professors I have ever taken. His class is very unorganized. His test are very hard and usually do not reflect on what he teaches. Usually the tests are half short answer, which sucks because if you don't know one question you will already be down to a B. AVOID HIM AT ALL COSTS if you can. And LAB is a waste of time.
He's really smart, it's just that he cannot TEACH the knowledge he has to others. It's not as bad as everyone else wrote in here. His exams are all about application of genetics to experiments, so don't expect that memorizing slides will get you a good grade.
He is not as bad as how others have described him. While his lectures are not that interesting, his notes are good enough for students to understand the materials. In the same way, he selects problem sets for the lab that are very much helpful in enhancing the students' understanding of the materials. The TAs are also pretty helpful!
If I only had an hour left to live I'd spend it in this class because it would feel like an eternity
one of the nicest easy going professors you will ever meet. he is a great guy and who ever says bad stuff about him is because they didn't give him a chance or study.
He likes class participation and he yells at you if he doesn't get it but other than that he is a good professor. Read the chapters before class you will make things easier on yourself. He gives pop quizzes so go to class! The lab was a lot more useful than the lecture. He has an accent but his English is perfect
Awful professor. I got an A but learned straight out of the book. He seems to be learning the slides as he teaches them, can't answer questions (w/o solutions manual) and the TA's in lab spend more time being tutored by students than teaching. You want to resent your education? This is the place to go! If you want to *learn* genetics, go elsewhere.
Horrible teacher. He cannot do basic math, and this ends up frustrating everyone. Anything I have learned has not come from him. Useless to pay attention in class; you might as well just read the book. Don't go ask him questions; you'll just leave more confused. Unfortunately, he is the only teacher for this class.
This is the the worst professor I have taken during my four years at UNLV. His tests do not reflect the slides or what he teaches in class. He reads right off of powerpoints. we had 3 easy review chapters on test one and 8 chapters on the second test which killed everyone. His final left 100 students standing outside of class waiting to complain.
Granted, the below is mostly true. Helpful in office hours. His final was a bit of a shock. But his grading was very fair. Discussion attendance helps a lot, both with understanding and grades. He is a fine teacher. If you're not prepared to practice, don't take this class.
These reviews are harsh. He adds a lot of extra credit and is uber nice. Bunch of kids complained about forgetting homework deadlines or toughness of quizzes, so he gave us all full credit for most of them. The exam probs were really tough, but the TAs went over similar stuff in lab. Read ahead, pay attention and you'll be fine. Average is a B.
This class wouldn't have been half as bad if the instructor actually seemed prepared for it in anyway! You get a syllabus but he never sticks to it, because he is to lazy to get things prepared on time. He changes the lecture from when he posts it to when he actually presents it. So expect to be missing key slides. Ultimately this class was awful!
In order to pass this class, read the book religiously, disregard all power-points (they're useless/misleading), and go to office hours. The professor cannot teach, so he makes up for it by practically giving the answers away on take-home exams. If you have any self decency and truly want to learn the material, you'll do horrible in this class.
This is possibly one of the most useless professors on earth. In class he is constantly unclear and disorganized. Read the book always because he will give assignments that have not been covered in class. His power points are pointless and difficult to follow just like him. Oh and don't expect anything graded in a timely manor.
This course is difficult because of the material, but if you need help, Robleto will definitely help you, especially if you actively participate in class. That said, his explanations can be really confusing and his attitude towards students who don't immediately understand everything make this lass much more difficult than it would otherwise be.
pretty good class. He's really arrogant and hard to understand, but he will help you if you go to office hours, and he's really hot.
This professor did a great job. He took the time after class to help me understand material that I had a tough time with. I should have gone in for help earlier in the semester. He was thorough in his lectures, and the test material covered exactly what he goes over in class or in the discussion. And the material is interesting.
This class was a challenge. Robleto can be great, but he needs to finesse his teaching skills as his explanations can appear condescending and/or vague. The book also makes this class difficult as it has several errors. This class has homework for discussion, online assessments, and pop quizzes. Also to note, this class is very math oriented.
If anyone doesn't like him it's because they want to wing a class. yes he is tough but he cares and remembers names and wants you to be successful. he has helped me so much and continues even after finishing his class
He is an amazing teacher, really cares. Yes genetics is hard, uses math and even gets into the molecular level, but if it was easy everyone would do it! I learned so much from Dr. Robleto and if I didnt in class he made sure I understood it after I left his office!!
There is a reason why the university is no longer letting him teach this class. His explanations are very unclear, he berated students which is completely unprofessional, and left a really bad taste in my mouth for incredible interesting subject matter. You're better off with BIOL 304 w Andres.
His lectures were a bit tough to follow, especially if you haven't pre-read the material. If you don't understand something, go to his office hours! He's extremely helpful. Tests were take home, but were some of the hardest I've ever taken. Most of the questions will have multiple solutions. Requires thinking and not regurgitation from a book.
Honestly, his expectations were way to high for a summer course. The discussion was always ahead of the lecture, and was so time consuming that you rarely had time to study for the lecture. He curves his exams as needed if the average falls below a 75%. Be ready for pop quizzes in either the lecture or the discussion!!
He lectures with enthusiasm, and although he likes to pick on his previous students, he means well! His lectures contain a lot of information, and there were only 2 exams before the final. His exams are tough because there's so much material that could be on it, so make sure you catch up with your notes! (Because he also gives pop quizzes)
He's not a very helpful teacher when it comes to tests, and the pop quizzes can be about anything from today's lecture, the previous lecture, or even the random articles he posts on WebCampus. It isn't consistent. I definitely don't recommend him.
Absolutely zero consistency. Pop quizzes whenever he feels like it on whatever he feels like. Test are not hard or easy; more like dumb: "What is the name of this thing I never even talked about?" I dunno, read/don't read the book, listen in class/don't listen in class, your guess is as good as mine. I got an A. I don't know how.
This could've been a great class! Gave ridiculous pop quizzes and exams (minute details) and was hard to follow during lecture (rephrased his sentences/stuttered often making it hard to take notes). Usually made topics more difficult to understand than necessary and didn't get through all of the material. Seemed unprepared for class.
RUN. His thoughts were so disorganized during lecture that nothing ever stuck. His tests were extremely hard. It wasn't even applying the concept... You could understand the whole mechanism but maybe you didn't memorize every single protein in the mechanism and thats what he'd test on. POP QUIZZES. Lab is extremely time consuming.
Person-to-person he is a great teacher. Don't be intimidated, go to office hours. Read the supplemental links before class. Go to every lecture. READ THE BOOK, you need it. Biochemistry and microbial metabolism are a huge part of Micro. The lab is intensive, but can really boost your grade.
Professor Robleto is pretty funny and amusing, the lecture itself is not that hard to sit through at all. The one thing I had a hard time w/ in class was clarity in what I needed to focus on. A test could cover up to 4 long chapters and studying for it I would have no direction or study guide of sorts. The tests were all over the place also.
An entertaining lecturer. He was very accommodating for makeup exams if you have a catastrophe mid semester. The slides are your guide; the book is only useful for extraneous information. Supplementary material was interesting, but hardly necessary.
While Robleto's lecture's are clear, his test are really all over the place. Focus on the figures! On his tests, he will often have one figure that counts for 3-5 questions. I just wish that his tests were less random... sometimes it felt as if he drew them out of a hat. With that, the lab is 40% of your grade and will really help you out.
YouTube will be your friend with Robleto. Studying the slides alongside the book is more helpful than his lectures. However attending class is sadly necessary because of random pop quizzes & he focuses on random figures that don't seem too important which can be up to 5 questions on the tests. Lab is tedious & long but 40% of the grade; He curves.
Go to lectures. Not because he teaches but because he assigns pop quizzes on things he barely covered. His exams are very poorly written. There really isn't a proper way to study for this class.
Unclear lecturer, had a temper and an attitude, and tests were on the more difficult side. Half the time I didn't know what to study for as the questions were more on very trivial details and less on the actual big picture. Lab will help you out a lot. I would not recommend this guy. Take the microbiology lecture with Wing instead.
Few exams, terrible lectures, reads off of power points directly from the textbook. Even if you study the slides you'll still be lost on the exam. He asks you to visit office hours, but won't even help you when you ask for help. If you absolutely have to take his class, do EXTREMELY WELL in lab, and MAYBE you'll get a good grade out of it... maybe.
His exams are all over the place, he is a terrible lecturer. He will spend fifteen minutes looking for a youtube video. He never knows what comes next on the slides because he doesn't write them himself. He will turn around and read the slide to you. Rarely finishes a thought. The best way to study for the exam is reading the textbook with slides
Worst class I have ever taken at UNLV. I was actually looking forward to this class, due to my interest in microorganisms and infectious diseases, but he focused so much on genetics. Course was extremely disorganized (he only covered like half of the sections), and his exams were ALL OVER THE PLACE. I don't understand how this guy is teaching.
The exams are extremely specific but he really is interested in the material and will help you if ask.
He does not take the time to prepare for the lecture and is not willing to answer students questions. His slides are just copied and pasted from previous courses and make no sense. You basically have to teach yourself everything or passing is impossible. You could tell he didn't want to be there.
DO NOT TAKE HIM. Literally the worst professor I've ever had. He speeds through a lecture that makes NO sense and has tons of random thoughts throughout but then gets angry when you ask questions. He should not be teaching. I absolutely hate this class because of him.
This is the worst professor ever at UNLV. It makes me wish I never came to UNLV. This class has caused me to be put on medication with the amount of stress he has caused THE ENTIRE CLASS. DO NOT TAKE HIM. Safe your health and your sanity. Take it at CSN. He is rude, will not answer questions, lectures are confusing and make no sense. DO NOT TAKE!!!
Yo listen to what the people are saying. He seems like a decent guy but man this class is a wreck. The girls that sit in the row in front of me leave crying because how terrible his lectures are. We had an exam today and he made an error but didnt tell til after we submitted. Said he wont correct it either. Dude dont take this class at Unlv.
His class was one of the most miserable experiences I have had in my university experience. He was confusing, his explanations were hard to understand, he explained simple things in the most difficult way possible. I would never take another class taught by him, ever.
He is really passionate about what he does, at first, he was very confusing but I recorded the lectures and listened to them on my own and it made sense. I went to his office hours and he was helpful. You just have to work for your A. I learned a lot with him and I would take him again
Lectures were a little hard to get used to in the beginning because he does tend to speed through some slides. But he does recognize when we are struggling to follow, so he makes the effort to slow down and answer as many questions as he can. Make sure to practice drawing! He likes asking about diagrams and experiments, so get used to drawing them.
Dr. Robleto really doesn't deserve the the low ratings imo. He does tend to go off tangent, but it honestly just shows his passion for the field. Exams are lecture HEAVY, so make sure to pay attention (he repeats important topics tho). There's pop quizzes and attendance, but the points are too minuscule to affect your overall grade. Lab helps too.
This class has been the most stressful experience ever. I studied day in and day out and Im lucky if I can get a B on one of his exams. He doesnt follow the textbook and adds questions on the exam that he doesnt even mention on any of his power points or lectures. This class is ridiculous.
