Barbier is one of those teachers who will show you the door, but you have to open it yourself. He encourages creativity and full-blown wackiness in art. He tells stories about how he used to be a hippie living in a redwood. This guy is a great teacher if you are willing to be unique.

Really fun teacher, hillarious and easy to get along with and offers constructive criticism. Be prepared to do a lot of large-scale work, he likes big crazy stuff. He is an interesting person. He makes class fun, and not a bore to attend. The work can be tedious, using unfamiliar media, but not impossible to do well. 350 words isn't much, so here goes: Barbier will make you laugh every single class, he's a great guy. He doesn't use textbooks and it seems like you don't learn too much about design, unfortunately. Barbier is a really nice guy however he can be very unclear on what is making or breaking your project. Sometimes he says he loves an aspect of it and then when he grades it, he doesn't give you a good grade. Homework is really important to him, so make sure you do it. Projects are not hard at all but pretty boring.

He was definitely my favorite professor last quarter. If you have him for an 8am or 11am, he'll sneak you some coffee from the break room. He gives really clear grading criteria. He really encourages students to be bold and break the grading rules he sets. If you're a swimmer, prepare for a lot of attention. He, himself is a swimmer.

Prof. Barbier really like to talk. He has a tendency of going on and on with no real point. His accent can be difficult to understand if you're not used to people from the deep south. You'll find that his ideas can be extremely abstract and vague. I wasn't able to understand how he came to a grade, or what he wanted. Wouldn't take again.

He's one of those professors that likes a distinct style; in his case it's abstraction. If he really likes what you do, you should do fine. If not, expect a C at best. I wouldn't recommend him to someone who won't be majoring in some form of 3D design. He's a pretty funny guy though. Expect to hear lots of "Amazing", "Oh no", and "Hot Dog".

one of the funniest professors out there. Barbier makes you want to go to class and its always entertaining. you don't need the textbook at all. Other than that, he expects you to work hard to do a lot, and if you do more than what he asked for, that's extra credit for sure. I went in knowing nothing about design, and now at least i feel like i do

Personally, I was bored by a lot of the assignments, but that mostly had to do with the fact that none of them could be applied to my major. It's a great class and i'd 100% recommend it to an architecture or design major, but not really to anyone else

A lot of his assignments are very repetitive. He tells you one thing one day and another thing the next. His stories are funny but he tells them 20 times each.

He's a very unique individual. He's a pretty good professor, but his grading system isn't very reliable. If your project is "cool," you'll get a good grade even if you didn't follow the requirements, but never explains what he means by "cool."
