The best....hands down. He;s the kinda teacher you want to get to know. He will do whatever it takes to help you out. Just try your best and make an effort. Let him know
funny prof and always talks about his experiences. his notes and lectures dont relate to midterm at all, so u dont have 2 go 2 class unless u want to hear his stories. midterms are pretty easy if u study the online questions.
Should not be teaching at at course at any school because you don't know what to study for test or any clarity as to what he expect on our assignment.
group project is WAAAAAAY too hard, and worth WAAAAAY too much - 25%!!! i'm gonna fail this course because of my group project, can u believe that?!?
This guy is ridiculous dont need to go to class. Dont go to class expecting to learn anything go to class to laugh at him not with him. Study online questions put them on your cheatsheet. Try to find previous midterms with classes that he taught because some of the questions are exactly the same.
helpless, sucks. no need to go to class, read on your own. he doesn't answer your questions. avoid him if you can.
Without a doubt the best business prof there is at ryerson. This guy should be the head of business. I hope he starts the much awaited MBA program at Ryerson. I had no interest in finance before - his knowledge and method of teaching got me changing my whole career and pursuing a CFA.
He's a petty good prof, you don't have go to the lecture, just read the textbook and you'll do fine, help is always there and stay on his good side, it helps
Funny prof, only go to class if you want to laugh cause he's not going to teach you anything you can't learn from the book. The book is 900 pages type 10 font, waste of time because more than half teh stuff isn't on the exams. Do website multiple choice and get past exams - midterm was easy final was a little harder
This prof. thinks he sleek.
Don't bother asking him questions; he will not give you a straight answer. He barely teaches any content and spends most of the time cracking bad jokes. He lets you out early every class and then complains that there isn't enough time to cover everything in the course!
Honestly Blinder is the best prof u will get for FIN401.He is more understanding, especially to those who are struggling in the course. He seems intimidating, but very nice once you chat with him.u are better off reading the book, and teaching urself.he stops to make sure u understand before moving on and b quiet in his clas he hates noise.
He is not a good teacher. If you want to learn something- drop his class! Take it with someone who won't wasn't your time telling you stories.
Likes to tell stories, which are actually funny. He's not a bad prof, but I found it easy to get lost in his class. The textbook didn't help much, just do the questions from the CD and you'll do fine.
Blinder is a very funny prof. Finance 401 is a hard course to teach, you have to read the book. Blinder manages to make the course pretty fun.
Blinder overall is a good professor and very understanding. However he doesn’t apply his formulas to actual chapter questions. Also he is bias on some parts of the textbook. Other than that, his class is fun.

Its a tough course...but he's test are also very tricky. Overall, he's a good professor and tries to help out students in the end to pass...

a bad teacher i ever have. actually, this course is not hard, but this teacher make the test very tricky. also, he doesn't teach anything. he waste your time, he doesnt care what mark you got.....he is totally bad teacher.
Ya i agree his teaching and oral skills are zero. But i guess he's very easy on marks than any other finance professor. So i think its worth taking, just have to study by yourself as lectures are not useful.
Teaching wise, this guy is pretty bad, he doesn't do any actual examples for the formulas, and he's really lazy. He's always a half hour late, and you really need to study on your own, or you won't learn a thing. However, he is a funny guy, and he likes being asked questions. If you're a smoker, join him on smoke breaks.

he is blind
He doesn't teach! He just goes on and on about his personal life. His comments are so inappropriate sometimes.
He is one of the biggest Finance ****s in Ryerson U.Get someone else to teach you FIN501!His is rude and inconsiderate of his students. If time is up,he will not let you finish bubble in your scan tron and let you marks on ur midterm and final. He is extremely unorganized and his lectures are total garbage.Don't even bother going to class.
all i remember from this class is the laughters. i dont remember learning anything from him, except his stories which are not part of the course. the tests/exams were difficult since the course covers alot of materails. too many students were confused and didnt know what to study, this explains his teaching skills. fresh air time!
Lectures are useless.. he doesn't really teach.. and when he does nobody really pays attention because he has no notes.. learn at home and do all the problems, and you shouldn't be having that much trouble if you do all your work....
Easy 3rd-year FIN major course, esp. when u're taking FIN601. Lectures are useless, but blinder is funny, it's not bad to listen to his jokes sometimes. The investment simulation game is not bad, good tool for you to learn about derivatives. Don't worry about the performance, but make sure u know ur investment strategy. Most people get >80% in 611
you have to the work there is not point coming to class if you do not do your work recommend that you take it in spring or summer
Good prof with experience and makes the class interesting unlike that other guy with no hair. The investment game is good for getting real life experience without using your own money.

You got to love Blinder. There are so many dry prof. at Ryerson, especially in Finance. Its nice to have a teacher who keeps you awake and cares about the material. He is a bit quirky but once you get use to him you love him. Its a good intro course to investments even if your not a finance majour its a good course to take.
"YOU either Love me or hate me.... but pick one...No Fence sitters" I had Blinder for 5 classes in 3 semesters and he is undoubtedly the funniest teacher you will every have. Its worth coming to class solely for entertainment purposes. he is too the point...no ****...just read text and u will be fine...just sit back, relax and enjoy the show
lots of realistic comments here about this guy, so i'm not going to repeat. Except to note that the tests are comprised of both the book material and his lecture contnt, so pay attention. Final only 40 MC, so any paragraph in the book could appear. Final harder than MT. And he's useless at posting your assignment grade. For most, its an easy A-.
Blinder's great. I complain throughout the semester for many of the reasons previously listed but never would I ask for another prof. He looks after his students in his own unique way. A BM degree isn't complete without a course from Blinder.
this guy is good. REAL good. wish RY had more like him!
you won't be bored! tells lots of stories - mostly about himself but if you study from the text you'll be fine
one word to describe this prof and course-boring!
If you happy with getting a B then take his course, but theres no way to get an A in this course or anything below a B becuase he doesn't mark anything. When I asked him to see my assignment mark he said not to worry about it. How can I not worry about it when i'm paying $500 to take his class.
Lectures are funny, not neccessarily relevant to course material BUT midterm/final are about as simple/straight forward as possible, read the text and you'll be more than fine.
Awsome Professor. He is really knowledgeable about the subject area you can tell he's had tonnes of life experience. He's lectures are fun I wish people didn't complain about his stories because he only told a few and I wish he told more. Helped make the material more relevant. He's really nice, should be more profs like him.
Professor Blinder is one of a kind. Show up to class, it'll only be about an hour of your time anyway and he'll probably give you something to chuckle over too. The midterm and exam are pretty straightforward. Read the text and you should do fine, though he might choose not to include some things, which is all the more reason to go to class.
Tests are basically from a test bank, so be sure to study mainly from the text and/or CD as opposed to notes/slides, etc. It's the sad truth, but if gets to know you on a first name basis, you'll never finish lower than a B. As others said, I don't think he reads your assignments.
This guy is such a loser! Can't believe he's a prof! He claims to be a Rotman grad, but turns out he isnt! Get a life!
The best prof in Ryerson!
just do your own studying and not depend on him at all but I got a tell you ,he is a really nice man, very funny and treats people with respect.
I really do not understand this dude. I went in the final exam with A+ and ended up with B and i was more confident after the final exam than i was in the Midterm that tell you he curves. I am going to chellange my grade
By a wide margin, the best FIN prof at RY! Knows his stuff inside out, teaches well and cares for the students. If you want to know finance, dont miss any of his courses !
This guy is a wiz! knows his stuff inside out and teaches well.. really approacheable and cares for his students. Highly recommended for this tough course!
He is a funny guy. He is really smart and knows his stuff. His exams are okayish. The only thing with him is that he is unclear as can be about the project and stocktrak game. Other than that, he is a good prof. He wants you to do well. He is also strick. Good course and good prof. BTW, cant escape him cause he is only one teaching it.
OK, EB wanted a review and here it is: he could be teaching the course in his sleep and that's exactly what he's doing (not that the class is awake either). May be it's because it's an evening class, too bad...
1....2....3... ah ah ah ah. This guy is the gino version of sesame street's count. good prof though, even though he wishes to be hated.
he is a cool guy..but his smoke breaks are way TOO LONG!! read the text and u will be fine
He comes so late to every class and spends way to much time blocking the doors so if people are late, they have to move the obstacles he has placed in front of the door which wastes even more time. Exam is pretty straightfoward but he doesn't explain his expecations for the exams or project at all
Hope you are reading this. Pls, engh of useless stories and try do problems on board to better prepare students for the exam, if I want to hear stories I will go my grandma cuz her stories are free and she wont graded on’em & little more motivation and be better organized, there are lot of hard working students in the class, be a prof. not a child
midterm and final are fair and pretty easy, just understand the textbook and ull be fine. He explains real life stories that can occur in the field, which is interesting and useful. Overall, take this prof in any finance classes.
he actually reads his own reviews but overall i must say he is a great prof and i really enjoyed his class
If you're in Finance, your degree has no value unless you take one of this guy's courses... by far the best Prof. at RY. Very approachable. Read the Text.
Good prof and good person. He is not always clear on what he expects but that is the beauty of things. He wants students to understand that the world is not always as crystal clear and instructions would not always be spoon fed to us. His teaching is good but it also requires work on your own. Overall a good prof.
Best finance professor at Ryerson. Makes the subject more interesting with his stories and behaviour. The stories are a glimpse into the capitalist environment. The behaviour is hilarious at times, blocking doors, making late people uncomfortable. JUST GO TO CLASS ON TIME! READ THE TEXTBOOK! I'm taking him again for FIN 601
what can I say... A- for this class, didn't do jack.
blinder likes to talk about his experience in business in class...i didn't mind that at all, but if ur a student who really needs a prof to teach u stuff, don't take his class...im a textbook guy, so i didnt mind him at all...although the final did contain a couple of odd questions (e.g., odd-lot ratio ...didn't expect that!)
What can I say? Blinder is your god of finance. A course should not be mandatory unless it is a Blinder course, or if not offered by Blinder's boy Sergiy Rakhmayil.
seems like people want you stay, blinder! so, i hope one of your new year's resolutions is to stop smoking!
the person below likes the formal/conventional way university profs. teach, which is why he/she doesn't like blinder. blinder isn't the greatest teacher, but he doesn't need to be. just read the text and you should be ok. he makes up for his lack f teaching skills with coolness and humour.
Just go to class and enjoy the ride. Got an A+ in both the classes I took with him. If your expecting to be spoon fed with the exact information to know...look elsewhere. Learn to open the book for once and read.
Students- if you want to learn any finance, RUN from Blinder. Mr Blinder, please stop pretending you do jack as a prof. All Blinder classes are a joke, but you guys will stop laughing once you graduate.
Blinder: "I prefer mutual funds to ETFs". Student: "Can you argument your opinion?" Blinder: "There is something in the word 'mutual' that turns me on". This guy is living off our money doing nothing at all and proudly showing off his laziness. Your choice people if you finally decide to uplift Ryerson's reputation tarnished by profs like Blinder.
60 Questions, 60% of the whole course mark on the Final exam, and he even made it harder. It was a BRUTAL Final exam.
Although I got a good grade in the course and havae no complaints about that I have to say the final exam was a KILLER. It had question on material not even in the course (like the black-shoels formula) which is in a chapter not covered. The mid term was straight forward. About the teacher, hes not bad at all. Doesnt do problems on the board thoug!
This professor is pretty kool but his final is a killer, i mean there was nothing relevant to the textbook on the fianle exam and i studied my ass off for 4 damn days. the midterm was okay if you had studied. i would wouldn't recommned this proff to anyone unless your like a super smart ass! cause i think ull just be hurting your GPA and wasting u
A unique character but fun. The final exam made me feel like I was brain dead. The course is interesting and challenging.
his exams r hard
I you don't wana learn and just pass, take blinder.
Absolutely the best and most recommended ! love his classes !
Passing the course means not going to class(useless) and reading the book!
meh... Simulation was fun... umm exams and midterms most marks go to whoever can read their tiny tiny writing on their crib sheet (in other words fill your crib sheet with info) But seroiusly if he would do probelms in class he would be the perfect prof
he is nice guy, wanna learn take him. he doesn't really teach from the book or do problems but will give his best knowledge. Attend his all classes to know what's really going on.... I recommend him.
Good prof and he seems to care a lot about student success. At first he may seem intimidating because he does not like late comers into his class so be on time! His tests are reasonable but you need to KNOW FIN401 REALLY WELL in order to get a good mark on the tests. Overall good prof.
He is a very hard prof. His lectures seem easy but the tests are totally diffrect than what he teaches. i will acoid this prof at any cost
one of the best finance professors to teach at ryerson. the content that's from 401 is simple and considering it's going to be your second time going over it, it's a breeze. go to class, take notes, and read the chapters to see if it matches up with his lectures each week. the midterm was easy, exam a little tricky. ended up with an A
(1) easier during spring/summer since you don't have to do the simulation though the remaining marks are allocated to make the midterm and exam worth more (2) handwriting and accent are hard to comprehend at first but you get used to it (3) fill up your cribsheet with all the info you can including his notes and random defs/formulas from the text
Very hard prof. lectures r easy but tests are too hard.
The best prof alive!
Read every chapter of the text and you'll do fine. Tests are based on the text, not lectures, but lectures are still fun to go to because he's entertaining. I don't mind when he jokes around, but halfway through the year the students became too comfortable to the point that they were disrespectful. to summarize: fun prof, not helpful, but easy
40% midterm 40m/c, 20% assignment, exam 40% 40m/c. No hints given about test material, all you gotta do is keep up with the readings and homework and u'll ace this course like i did. Midterm class avg= 83.5%. Lectures are incredibly useless, he rants about how great he is. He needs to lose the accent and the ego. Blinder, stop acting like god!Aight
The textbook will teach you everything, his stories will entertain you. His accent adds some humor to the punchlines. Can be inappropriate at times, proudly answers his own phone in the middle of class but singles out others. Tests aren't too hard, but each question is 1% of total grade, if you missed something you're screwed. May ask 6 q's on it!!
Edward is too hot for most of ladies. If you females think that you could flatter him with your dumb comments, you gotta try harder. In terms of finance and teaching: Finance should be taught with textbooks AND lectures with good stories. Both are equally important. Going by books only=sucking ***** to ppl that went to lecture, in ur workplace- Leon
the man
EDDY B is DA BEST! ppl might complain he doesn't teach, but i am not sure what these retards expect its a university you are suppose to be learning on your own and ask any questions if you are lost. He is funny and very knowledgable, and ladies is he one prof who will not fall for your cleveag, treats both guys and girls equally. Two thumbs up.
found him the most useless prof in my 3-year term, no point coming to class, funny when you do come tho. might instead watch TV
I think Edward is actually reading these comments as he really improved himself in the Spring 2009 semester. Actually explains concepts from text... but the stories & over flattering himself still exists. Midterd 40%, 40 m/c Q's; same format for final. StockTrak Report 20% didn't have to do presentation...still waiting for mark (3weeks later)
If you want the best in Finance, take Blinder. He can, he knows and he cares!
I think he is one the best prof at the Ryerson University. He is easy marker, easy lecture, and very decent and respectful man. Plus he got a good sense of humour (maintaining fun and entertaining class)
What can say.. He is the best
he's strange, i think he's from Transylvania . . . finance with a vampire
looking for a helpful prof? avoid at all costs. easy course if you use the text. This is my 2nd time w him. comes late/finishes early after teaching nothing. If you smoke, take him for breaks. BORING lecturer if you're sick of his sense of humor like me/everyone. Tests are fair. 10ppl grp prjct is dumb&easy. INVESTMENT GURU but useless in CORPFIN
Blinder's awesome. exams are easy and no trickery.
Unfair. Doesn't allow you to view your tests or past work!?!
This class is useless and so is Blinder.
Blinder does no teaching in class. He trivializes the material to the level that a baby can understand it but the tests look nothing like class material. What's worse is that the tests don't look anything like the textbook material either. It seems he is making tests using a different book. Not recommended at all.
Just one comment...He'ssssssssssssssssssssss BAD. (PERIOD!)
Useless for any course you take with him. He was my fav prof until the third lecture when I realized I was screwed. Take him for one of the useless finance courses for which you don't want to really learn anything so you can at least get that 'ok' mark. Tests are not that easy for 501 but easier than other profs for 401 by far.
Attending his class was helpfull to educate your self in the real finance world. the material is dry and heavily theory, no one can make it easier than this. At the end you have to read the book. His exams were fair enough,I took 501&611 wiz him and A'z both of them.If u pay attention in his lectures you would know wat to focus on
Ed really knows what he is teaching. Crystal clear on the concetps. Great teaching method - hard lectures, easy exams. Jokes are not bad since no one can take 3 hours straight finance...
great teacher, took him in the winter. midterm and final based exclusively on the textbook. if you wanna learn something interesting and have a laugh at the same time go to class. mr blinder complained that he hasnt received a good roast in ages on ratemyprof so someone please go ahead and do your best.
had him for 3 courses, the best finance prof by a wide margin! when it comes to investments - he is the god at ryerson! not sure why he was removed from teaching investments lately - a big loss for the students! TAKE ANYTHING HE TEACHES, HE IS THE BEST !
This prof makes classes very interesting - relates well to students and has an amazing sense of humour. If you study, you'll do well on the midterm and exam. Classes are definitely worth attending and they'll probably be among your most memorable at Ryerson. I recommend taking any course with this prof - he's a nice person and a fair marker.
he's not that gr8, midterm n final straight frm texts, one of my team member screwed us on the project, so we ended up wit a low grade. final was easy compared to the material that was in texts, 2nd half of the course is alot, n the tests really didnt test our knowledge. got lower than i expected on final grade.
Course material is very dry. Lectures are boring due to theoretical nature of course & it isn't necessary to attend. Midterm and final were easy. It was his first time teaching the course. Interesting subject; learned a lot. Finished with a high mark. He tied in some personal experience to the content and added a few jokes wherever. Worth taking.
He was not on his students' side. There were errors on the midterms and he refused to correct them. The book is horrendous and has sooo many errors. Waste of time class.
do not take FIN 502 WITH THIS GUY. CLASS AVG WAS LIKE 58 AFTER FIRST MIDTERM.
Do yourself a favour and do not take him. One of the laziest teachers throughout my university experience. Never got up from his chair not to mention never doing any problems. Test 1 was horrendous. He doesn't listen to student. Not very responsible because someone stole second midterm. He thinks he can teach 3 chapters in 45 minutes. DO NOT TAKE!!
This prof is plain BAD! notes got posted after the first midterm! does NO examples. Sits and complains about too much noise. Comes to class half an hour late. DO NOT TAKE this class with him! Second midterm, when you think you did better, NOOOO.. still same thing. MC kills.
FIN 502 with him is alright since material isn't difficult and the text is pretty easy to read. But Blinder is a pretty terrible prof, I can't imagine having him for a difficult course. He's very lazy, gives no examples and his tests are full of errors and ambiguities that he doesn't seem inclined to correct or clarify. Nice guy, bad professor.
He does not teach the coarse. All he does is read through the textbook. Useless prof, going to class is a waste of time.
Some love him, some hate him. But he's the best finance professor at Ryerson. You will come out of the class having learned something, instead of just written another exam. His teaching methods are a bit different, but that's what makes him so great to learn from. If you get a chance, take his class, but brace yourself for a fun/tough ride.
This guy is plain useless ! He's full of himself and thinks that he's very effective in his teaching style. All but NOT !
Horrible prof, makes dumb jokes and reads off the text book. doesn't even bother to get up and write stuff on the board. Avoid this prof at all costs
Blinder is a wizard in finance and definitely one of the best I had. His stories are relevant, his jokes are OK, but what counts - he makes classes interesting and cares for his students. For all cry babies - if you are at school to pass exams and get a piece of paper, you will not like him, but if you want to learn something, his class is a must!
Most useless professor I've ever had. Skipped two weeks before the midterm, walked out on us last class before the exam, ONLY uses textbook and SLIM TO NO examples. Even when he uses examples, hes all over the place. Funny, good guy- horrible proff.
Overall he is not as bad as many people say. He is very knowledgable about the material and has tons of industry experience. On the project he was vague about his expectations, although he said he gave us specific instructions. His midterms and final weren't bad, straight from the textbook. In general he is okay :)
He lacks teaching skills, talks about his personal experience all the time without explaining the concepts from the book. Going to class is a waste of time. The material is not difficult so better stay at home and read the text yourself.
He is knowledgeable, easy on marking. Tests are also easy. Quick response. Cons: 30-40% of tests are about theory. Lectures are totally useless. U learn nothing except his personal life and experience. He has no particular requirement for the assignment (which is worth 20%). Stay home, read the book and cram theory as much as you can. Goodluck
Explains well, midterm easy, final is tougher. A funny guy, some jokes are good. Overall- knows his stuff inside out, a good prof. Beware, hates ANY noise during class.
You dont need to attend any of his classes and you can learn everything from the book. In class however he talks alot about his personal life and tells alot of stories. Very smart guy, sometimes funny, sometimes weird. Midterm was easy (FIN501, investments). I would recommend him if you want to accually learn about things that apply to real life.
very rare, very based, chooses the no-textbook approach and talks about his life and skills. he is very smart but doesn't teach anything. seriously, he doesn't teach anything LOL but he's a funny guy to listen to.
Relatively easy tests. Marking scheme on the project is ambiguous. Content isn't hard but he tests about 17 chapters on the exam! He doesn't teach much during lectures and usually tells stories. There was actually a single thing he mentioned in a lecture that was on the exam that wasn't in textbook. Recommended over Yuce (who is undeniably boring)!
Excellent prof. What you get out of his class is directly proportional to the effort you put in. His stories are relevant, add value and make the material interesting. Will go out of the way to explain concepts, but you have to want to learn and ask. If you take this class for more than just earning the credit you would benefit from his experience
funny that he don't teach calculator, and don't solve problems on board, he just read slides off . if this is called teaching finance, then I can be a prof too. I feel like telling him ,y r u bothering to come to class we will read off the slides and manage to send your pay stub home:)I m really hunger but want to rate him b4 eatin to save students
The best in Fin! Show that you want to know and not just looking to get a pass and he will go out of his way-he is very passionate and knowledgable about finance and examples are very helpful to put it all in perspective. HIGHLY recommend!
tells a lot more stories in class than teaches content, oddly enough a lot of the things he did on the board in class were not on the midterm, midterm was fairly easy, the final you must know a lot about theory and some calculations, definitely an upgrade over yuce though, final is 17 chapters so make sure you give yourself lots of time to study
He's a great professor probably one of the best I've had in Ryerson. Extremely interesting and funny makes coming to class a lot of fun. However he tends to go off tangents which wont necessarily be on the test but are a blast to listen to. Midterm and final were much easier than expected and the textbook was more than enough to prepare me.
Prof Blinder is awesome. He really knows how to handle a class of younger students. Don't expect him to give a blow-by-blow breakdown of how to solve each aspect of the chapter. His classes are a higher level of the topic with some great and interesting stories. Absolutely the best FIN prof. Do your grades a favour and take him.
Honestly, he is a funny guy and he tells a lot of jokes. However, do not go to the class if you expect him to teach you the material. He will literally just read from the book while you sit there so as long as you teach yourself you will be alright.
Absolutely brilliant prof, one goofy character. As long as you can teach yourself, you'll be fine. His midterm and final were fairly easy compared to other finance profs. RECOMMENDED for an easy A
Awesome Prof! Makes you want to attend his lectures. Never a dull moment in his class. Like any other finance class, you need to practise questions for his midterm and exam however, more than half the q's on his midterms are def'n and giveaways. Highly Recommend this prof!
Best prof ever, teaches real life finance that we will actually need on the field.
Worst professor I have ever had. Just wrote his midterm and my god it was awful. Hardly anything that he taught was on it. And what he did teach that was on36 it was impossible. His lectures are useless and on top of that his tests are the worse. This is coming from someone with a 3.67 GPA and who has read all the chapters and slides.
hard test
Dr. Blinder is really funny and a great man but he doesn't teach finance in the simplest way; he often makes things more difficult. The midterm was extremely difficult. The online homework will save your life if you take the time to do it well.
Not the best prof for finance! You have to be willing to teach yourself the whole course and be reliant on the textbook. He doesn't even talk about the calc so be prepared to learn that on your own! He's a funny prof but he doesn't teach finance in the simplest and understandable ways to students. His powerpoint slides are almost close to useless!
God bless the bell curve. The course itself is just hard so good luck. Blinder is a nice man, but I wish he was able to teach how to use the calculator instead of how to do stuff the loooong old way and just get to the stuff we wanna see like HOW TO USE THE CALCULATOR! I would recommend doing SOS Tutoring in addition to help you pass.
Edward is a great professor, he is funny and is very smart. I really enjoyed his Finance classes, he doesn't move on until everybody gets it and is really good at explaining difficult concepts. Most of the bad reviews are from the students who leave class early and slack off, as he always calls them out, so if your like that don't take his class!
One of my favourite TRSM profs. Very approachable in terms of questions and advice regarding the class. SUPER SMART! Loved him, wish he taught upper year courses
It has been a great experience to have Dr. Blinder for both FIN300 and FIN401. Brilliant individual, loves to teach the material. Has very valuable anecdotes about corporate finance that can serve as memory aids for topics if you aren't sitting there anxiously waiting for the next slide like a zombie. Do your practice problems and ask questions.
The best in Fin, explains using real world examples and shows how different topics related so you get to see the whole picture. Will not tutor you on end of chapter questions, but will always help you if you have questions. Very approachable and fun, hates noises in class. Overall - a super prof !
Had to learn the course on my own. He only goes over what an equation is, not how to use it. Does not do examples in class only the theory.
Hes funny and his tests aren't bad once you practice the questions in the book. If he gave us specific questions from the book for us to practice for the tests it would be a lot easier. For the assignment make sure you execute a lot of trades our group didn't and got an average mark despite being having one of the highest rankings in the class.
Overall a great prof, really funny and cares about his students. He makes sure that students understand the content. Would recommend.
Blinder deff knows what he's talking about, he has lots of experience in this field of work. really outgoing and funny! he is a bit old school but you'll get used to it. tests questions are out of nowhere though, but he'll try super hard to help everyone understand. would take again!!
Blinder is an amazing professor, knows the material. He is very smart, funny and truly cares about his students. He is always there to help, responds to emails quickly. DO NOT BE SCARED TO ASK QUESTIONS, he rather you ask then struggle. Really enjoyed him for FIN 300, I cant wait for 401 with him.
Prepare to study at your own time. If you don't want to come to class then use the time to practice questions because that's what the exam is like. Very little theory so think of it as a math class and start learning how to use the calculator very well. Ed is a bit odd and sometimes may seem childish but exams are not as tough if you prepare :P
Read the textbook and learn the material ON YOUR OWN. DO the practice exams and get a lot of tutoring help if you don't understand the material. DON'T wait for the last minute!!
He puts up LOTS of online material, that's good. His lectures waste your time, he's unhelpful, and rather immature. Do the practice tests, the chapter q's, and go to free tutoring at TRS to learn the calculator. Try switching classes - get a prof who actually teaches test concepts, & actually enjoys students (not just the sound of his own voice).
The lectures are useless in my opinion. He spends most of the time on tangents and reading word for word off the slides. He rarely takes the time actually going over the questions you will face on the exams. The textbook is extremely dry, be prepared to spend lots of time reading and doing practice questions.
Hard prof. He does not go over questions. However, HE BELLCURVES!!!!
The courses he teaches are hard, not a reflection of how he actually teaches. He's a very theory based professor and wants you to understand the concepts of Finance, rather than just punch numbers in a calculator. He puts up a lot of practice tests online which are VERY useful and he always makes sure students understand the content when in lecture
If you ask questions, he will ensure that you do not leave without you understanding the concepts. He is a very theory based prof, which actually ends up teaching you what finance is all about and adds his real world examples to it. In terms of the tests, he posts practice finals/midterms which will definitely help you.
Blinder is a very smart man with a great sense of humor. Take him if you enjoy stories :)
horrible.. easily one of the worst profs i ever had. No point going to class as long as you use the textbook. he completely makes you lose focus as soon as he starts talking about his stories which serves no purpose. Try to get another prof !!!!
If you let him, he will make you understand... amazing prof, cares for his students
Edward was not a very good professor. He read off the his slides and mostly told jokes all the time. He did not teach us how to use the calculator and did not do any practice questions in class. He is not a mean professor, but he was not very helpful. Many students went to other professor's lectures to learn material.
worst prof I have ever had
So boring. All he did was read off the powerpoint. Attending class was a waste of time for me. He makes a lot of jokes (especially about Star Trek and Austin Powers), so if you're into the kind of thing you might find his lectures tolerable. Don't come to class expecting to learn the content from him. Pretty sure he bellcurves though so that's cool
Funny guy, but going to his lectures is basically pointless. He just reads off his slides and even manages to skip over the only examples that are on the powerpoint because they are "too easy" or they are not "interesting". DOESN'T know how to use calculator thus won't teach how to use it. Midterms and Final are basically 90% calculations.
Blinder is very old school, and teaches you exactly what you need to know. He doesn't teach you the calculator because the equations will actually help you understand finance. Investment analysis itself is a hard class so be prepared to do the work to be successful in the course.
Worst prof I've ever taken. Lectures are useless as he doesn't teach at all - reads out of the textbook here and there and tells unrelated stories. No practice questions given. Final exam questions were nothing like the textbook or in class. Group project directions were nonexistent. Please please take with someone else!
Blinder won't show you how do calculations, its University, figure it out at home. You can skip class and do well if you follow and understand the text. The MT an Final were fair, hard, but fair. His class was interesting in the sense that Blinder talks about real world finance examples which are interesting. Plus he's a funny guy. Overall, solid.
It is good to listen his side talks personally, but it has pros and cons. Do not expect to understand course materials from his lecture. You are more likely all alone to cover. The test is much tougher than what he teaches in class.
Sarcastic guy, doesn't actually teach finance, just talked about his life in the field and won't teach you the calculator. Basically didn't even show up to class and taught myself to course. Avoid...
Never written these b/c I never felt the need to be negative. But, easily the worst prof I've ever had. 15-45mins late for EVERY class, doesn't teach off slides but by "heart" which doesn't help when it comes to testing, doesn't show you calculator methods. Only tells stories and gives sarcastic answers to reasonable questions. Must teach yourself.
Whatever you do please do not take him. His midterm was decent, the group project was easy. But the final sets you up to fail. So much ambiguity he doesnt even explain. He uses words that were never used in the textbook like doubly monthly. Save yourself!!!
The reviews are true, the course requires a calculator that he deems as not useful. I suggest you do not take this class unless ur as old school as him. On the bright side he cracks jokes hear and there to catch the attention of the class cause half the people arnt listening but he still seems like a good guy.
only covers theory
Took him for fin401. His slides do not even belong to him. FIN relies heavily on calculators, however, he does not use it. He is very old school with his teaching methods. He does not show you how to do it, he sits there and talks about how you should do it. If you took fin before, you will know that his methods are useless.
not a bad guy just a bad prof. not even sure where or how he decided to construct his midterm as it was nothing like past midterms I had used to study from other profs. says he wants his students to do well but then doesn't teach, Skips examples in class and doesn't teach the calculator either. Useless
Very funny guy. Tells a lot of stories. FIN400 is in general a tough course but you should go to class because he explains things well. There is a lot of FIN300 material involved so make sure you know your stuff
Old school university needs to provide better profs who are current with times.
very funny guy but horrible prof. i almost failed the course because of him. 10/10 would not recommend
Sooo this is one of these classes where you have to teach yourself using the textbook. 100% useless to me, annoying and tries to be funny but is not really funny.
lectures are useless, does his own thing doesn't go over examples. avoid.
He just lectures off the top of his head about 2/3 of what he says is just useless stories he tells that he thinks are funny. If you actually wanna learn anything hes useless. If you want to pass the class get ready to teach yourself everything. His group project where you buy and sell stocks is not explained overall class is a joke
I cannot believe he is even a professor. He's a nice guy, but not meant to be an educator. he WILL NOT teach you the calculator, even though half the material can be done on it and makes the work easier. Doesn't do examples (Which you need in a math course) and confuses you during lecture. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!
His slides are more difficult to understand than just reading the textbook. He goes through very few examples. You're better off staying home and teaching yourself if you have this professor.
Terrible prof, does not teach, tries to be funny but isn't
Above average
Worst prof I have ever had. Does not help students at all. When you ask questions, he does not give proper answers. Easy midterm but final exam is nothing like the midterm or homework questions. Group project in this class that he does not explain and does not give feedback so you have no clue what you did wrong on it. Avoid if possible.
Fin501 Ok so here's the deal. He flies through material. Do the readings BEFORE class and with minimal effort, and i truly mean minimal (you can't do less than me i didnt even do the readings), a B and above is easy Fin 401 Also flies through stuff. lectures are short and to the point. Must put some effort to understand concepts but tests are fair
Edward has a great sense of humour, and is a decent teacher. he goes through the material fast, so do the readings before class, and be prepared for a final that's way harder than the midterm.
Edward is very old school because he only memorizes and uses formulas when teaching. It was super hard to understand what he was talking about sometimes because he would relate back to his experiences in the financial world and half of it I couldn't understand. I would not recommend taking him if you want to pass
Been taught by many profs at RU and maintained a 4.0. This is the worst prof to ever teach me. He doesn't review the lecture slides prior to class so he's confused during lecture, literally is always late (ranges from 10-20 minutes), and he rushes through the slides to end lecture early. Genuinely don't believe he gives a damn. Avoid having him.
The worst, doesnt teach calculator functions for finance and does not care how students do in his class. Switch out if you can
Worst Professor ive ever had, and thats coming from a student who has a decent gpa and is a hardworker. Comes to class most of the time late as if he doesnt care at all, doesnt go over any examples, lectures are absolutely useless, study the textbook for the midterm and the practice final for the final exam and you will do fine
Edward Blinder is ALWAYS late to class, despite the fact that the most students are here before him and ready to learn. His excuse is always public transit, but doesn't take accountability to come earlier to campus ultimately wasting student's time and money. P.S , FIN300 is a tough course with lots of material. Do NOT fall behind.
Professor Blinder has lots to talk about, unfortunately very little of that has anything to do with finance. It is not an exaggeration to say professor Blinder shows up a minimum of 30 minutes late to every class. He does not teach how to use the calculator, prefers to teach the formulas however, the textbook teaches everything you need to know.
The worst professor Ive had yet at Ryerson. He doesnt care how his students do and will not bell curve under any circumstances. He doesnt teach any calculator functions and I would recommend taking any the prof but him if you want to succeed.
this professor is the WORST, i repeat WORST ever. avoid him at all costs. His lectures are a waste of time, reading the textbook would be way better than listening to him. he has many "smoke breaks" and finishes teaching 1 hour early, which takes away from learning. the WORST
Not my favourite professor. Has a thick accent which made it hard for me to understand him, especially teaching a finance course which is already not easy to begin with. Most of the time I didn't bother going to class because his lectures were more confusing than helpful, basically had to read the textbook and teach myself. Do not take him!!
I understand why he receives so many bad reviews but guys, please, stop hurting the guy. I actually like his teaching style. Yes, he doesn't spoon-feed you the material that you can read from the textbook already (if you are lazy, you can just skip the book and read the slides, they are comprehensive), but he really teaches you the real world.
One word: Bad.
terrible prof. He is very rude to students, condescending and his lectures have very little to do about finance. a waste of time with this prof. he simply does not teach. refuses to teach fin on the required calculator so be prepared to teach yourself everything. Good luck
Cool professor and has a lot of interesting stories he shares with class. However a lot of class time will be used for this and he skips over a lot of the lecture. no problem sets for the chapters provided for practice. The report had no rubric so you never really know the criteria for, grading. Crib sheet is provided and useless.
For a tough class like finance, he made this even tougher. Lectures are useless and drag on about material that will not help you pass the class. If you take this with him, be prepared to teach yourself everything.
Funny prof. He will try and help you if you need it. Did not go to many lectures but the material was fine to comprehend without his help. Made a few videos explaining concepts during COVID-19 which was more than what many profs did. Third time taking him and I will again.
Going to class will confuse you more with material that is not even tested. Keeps skipping material, and doesn't try to teach. Goes on about stories that might be interesting for students who care but a lot of students. . .don't.
just dont take his class.
Honestly, I loved Prof Blinder. Yes he did skim SOME things , but the things he skim through are in the textbook and easy to understand. He is genuinely a nice prof and wants his students to do well. Just make sure you dont fall behind, because FIN300 is a hard course (no matter who you take it with), just understand the content :)
He will talk and tell stories, but will also let you know how it is in the world and why what is taught applies to the real world. Difficult lectures and lots of math but all vital to understand the class
I had Professor Blinder for an online class and he was incredibly unprofessional. He would complain about his poor ratings in class and blame it on a conspiracy to unfairly target him. He would also solicit praise from select students. He would finish class early consistently and doesn't show how to solve questions using Excel or the calculator.
This was a remote, no-class course. He made no effort and was disrespectful. Made passive-aggressive remarks, didn't bother to answer questions, if he did, the answers were unbelievable. This course had serious issues (incorrect materials, grading problems). I'm finishing this shocked by the low quality of education and complete indifference.
If you can't take a joke, find another prof. His humour may be offensive to some people but overall, a decent and chill guy. He is knowledgable in Finance, just doesn't know how to teach it well. Expect to learn most concepts on your own through labs. Finance is a tough course in general so hard work will need to be put in regardless. Goodluck!
He's a great prof, and knows his material inside out. He shows you the easy ways to get to the answer rather than the complicated textbook way they try to teach you. He answers his emails at all most all hours of the day and really cares to help his students.
dont bother going to lectures, he cant teach and its a waste of time. hed rather talk about his cars and all the expensive purchases he makes than course content. seems like a nice guy but hes a trash teacher. anyways just do weekly homework and practice questions and youll be alright
funny guy and seems really chill but, his lectures can be hard to understand so, you do have to learn the material yourself. he does give ample opportunity to improve your mark through hw and quizzes.
I honestly dont know why people dislike him. He only moves on quickly because no one asks questions, not even in the zoom chat. He asks the class if there are any questions every few slides. Hes a great prof. Understanding, funny, easily reachable, & wants you to succeed. The course is hard but if you keep up with lecture recordings youll be fine.
Teach yourself or find another professor. The only reason this class was difficult was because the professor is very "hands-off, figure it out for yourself". He does not respond to course concerns, and for help with problems he is condescending and gives no real answer. He does not teach/lecture at all, so textbook and labs are your only hope.
A very knowledgeable prof who does all he can to make sure students understand the material. He explains the concept then literally walks you through examples in class. The course does have moderately difficult material but if you put in the work you'll be fine. The final could have been way harder but it was fair in terms of difficulty.
I don't know why Professor Blinder gets hate honestly he is one of the best profs at Ryerson, he doesn't spoon feed us. He teaches the real world! He's a funny prof and cares about students. Did not attended all his classes, but when I was watching the recorded class lectures, I realized that I missed out on a lot, so make sure you attend the class
Great guy and pretty good prof. He is very relaxed and likes to crack jokes and tell stories. He ties in anecdotes with his lectures to make it easier to understand and will answer any question you throw at him. Sometimes he goes a little quick and won't dive deep into certain topics but if you attend lectures, you will be well off.
His lectures are not the best which is not beneficial in such a hard course. He sometimes doesn't explain concepts clearly as he expects us to know them as they are "easy". He is a great person as he is really fun to interact with however, he is not the greatest professor. I think his style of teaching just was not for me but it was good for others
I really just read the textbook and relied on the weekly labs (skipped most classes). If you can learn by YOURSELF and is able to teach yourself, you can get an A+. If you need a teacher to understand, get another prof, he just reads off slides. I asked if he would use a dashboard to show his work for the class, he said we can do it ourselves.
Honestly not as bad as people say. I managed a 98 in his course, and I know several people who got similar marks. Quizzes are super easy, labs literally tell you how to do each question, exam questions are pulled straight from the labs too. Plus he's a pretty funny guy IF you decide to join his lectures, which aren't really necessary imo.
This mans doesn't even teach. Comes to class reads straight from the PowerPoint and calls it a day. A 3 hour finance class that ends in 1 hour lets you know you're going to have to teach yourself. Don't bother coming to him for questions. A true waste professur.
Teaches in his own world. The questions he makes on quizzes make no sense, and his exams are hard. He goes on tangents with past students during class and often over complicates concepts.
you don't need to go to class just review the slides on your own and do you labs quizzes happen right after class so make sure to do you revision a week ahead and you will be fine
Final is much harder compared to the midterm which was more fair. Must buy mylab for tests and practice if needed. Nothing really taught/helped with you must learn yourself.
Going to class is useless because he overcomplicates concepts so you basically need to teach yourself. Quizzes are confusing, labs are not too bad. Midterm was fair but the final was brutal. He refused to release midterm grades for weeks because the class did really well so he just assumed everyone cheated. Also not flexible at all.
Useless prof, offers little to no accommodations; rude to students. Lots of concepts, so it is helpful to have a prof explaining and providing examples and applications (after all this is what we paid for). This guy did nothing but posted textbook answers and a couple announcements before tests. If you actually want to learn, don't take it with him
Took this through Chang's school so it was asynchronous but his modules were not very helpful. It was basically self-learning with the textbook. Course definitely requires lots of your time to study and make sure you do the labs and practice questions. Midterm was relatively easy if you studied but exam is definitely harder (also worth 65%).
Although a smart man, I feel as if his classes were unengaging and unreasonably difficult. My section had incorrect quiz dates posted and he didn't even bother sending out a new one, just told us to just figure it out ourselves, of course leading to more issues. Little patience for confusion and always makes comments about how bad our gen is.
Would definitely say to do well on the MyLabs as those can definitely help with overall marks, the quizzes were alright, and the exams were okay. Would highly recommend getting the textbook for when it comes to equations and explanations.
If you can teach yourself, you'll be fine. His lectures are extremely dry, but at least he's self aware and funny. The quizzes, midterms and finals are fair; as long as you do your weekly labs and study the chapters in the textbook you will pass.
Boring prof but mylabs were pretty light. Same goes for midterms and exams.
He is a really funny prof if you get on his good side (show up to class and participate). The class is fairly easy with a bunch of mylabs and a midterm and final that are literally pulled from the mylab questions. People think he's a bad prof because they expect A's without putting work in. FIN isn't easy but he makes it easy.
Good professor. Most important things in course are formulas. Lectures help to understand content.
Prof. Blinder's lectures are very dry & he skips over a lot of stuff. The course itself isn't hard but some concepts are harder to grasp. To do well, practice off the textbook & labs. Learn excel + calculator formulas. Do well on the quizzes as they may do more harm than good. Okay class if you can self-learn.
Unorganized Midterm exam and lack of transparency with what content will be on the exam as well. Overall not good unfortunately.
Blinder is a sweet and fair prof. If you do the questions he lists on the course outline you’ll be fine for any test or assignment. He explains everything clearly, but you have to read the textbook as well, just like for any other course. Honestly makes me sad he’s received so much negative criticism just cause people don’t study.
horrible professor. gives an 18% boost to one person and a 4% to another because he doesn't know how to function his own course's exam. avoid.
he is funny even though i do not understand what he is saying. cool guy tho
If you could learn the material yourself, then the pace of this course would be for you. The MyLabs were helpful, but the exams are kind of different.
FIN401 was very test heavy and Edward did not teach well besides read the slides. The mylabs did a good job providing the basic understanding of the chapter but the exams were much harder take someone else if you can as the exams are very heavily weighted
Prof. Blinder is one of the best I've ever taken. FIN is very hard but the professor does his best to make sure the class understands topics. He always wants students to ask questions and doesn't mind taking extra time to explain things. Hard work is required, but if you pay attention to what he says and take notes you'll be fine. Great professor!
Great professor, and MyLabs are pretty helpful
The mylabs and Slides are enough to do well on this course
the course itself is so hard it makes you want to blame the professor for not understanding. If you thought QMS was hard, get ready to be tested because there is nothing enjoyable about this class. good luck.
He was a good prof, maybe not the best. If you do the mylabs and understand the slides then you should do well. It's important to practice and make sure you understand the mylab questions because the questions on the midterm and exam are similar. He also gave past exams as practice and during class would say which equations were important.
fin300 is a hard course in general so its easy to blame the professor. blinder is not a bad prof at all. he teaches clearly and wants his students to do well. hes also pretty funny and tells lots of stories. the mylab helps boost your marks as its very easy. his tests are also straightforeword as its pulled right from the mylab.
chill prof but u gotta put in the work to pass XD
His class was fun and he gave lots of opportunities to get a good grade - dropping lowest HW marks (which was already easy), midterm forgiveness, bonus 5% assignment. While the textbook is long and kind of dull, his midterm and final are short and took less than half the allotted time.
All finance courses are hard and the course content is dry. But Professor Blinder is very kind, he provides lectures and thorough powerpoints on formulas, concepts, and meanings. He also wants everyone to pass. The midterm and final were tough as they all are, he is one of the better finance professors from all.
Hes a hilarious person, he jokes around and teaches okay. His lectures don't go up to 2 hours out of 3 which is kinda nice. Fin300 is overall hard to understand, he tries to teach it well. He's not the worse but not the best either, if you understand the mylabs and the practice test you'll do fine. You need to teach yourself sometimes.
While Prof Blinder is a great guy, he is not the best teacher. Does not teach anything about Excel or calculators (which is a lot of the course) so if you get him, prepare to self teach. However he does answer all emails and offers resources for students who need help. Mylabs are a good grade boost, use them to study. Goodluck!
When it came to calculations he verbally explained it or did it by hand. He did not show how to use the calculator which is the most important concept to learn. Get ready to self-teach.
He knows his stuff, cares for his students, solicits questions in class. All complaints that he is not teaching calculators - comon, we should know how to use them . He puts together the midterm, and its fair. Finals set by department, and are much harder. Make sure to do the labs ! Overall, one of the better profs .
He was so rude for no reason when I emailed him. Signed up for an in-person class just for it to become online but of course THE EXAMS were in person. Made it very hard to engage in his classes as he didn't teach well. I had to buy a whole course so that I could pass the coarse. Thank you All things Mathematics for teaching what this man didn't
One of few profs that stops every 5 min to ask if the material is clear and if anyone has questions. Labs are a life saver! He cares for h is students and tries hard. Finance is tough, so dont blame the prof. For the toughest topic he actually has a video and a teaching note, which helps. Old school, decent jokes. I like his style.
Good course, lots of material, but useful stuff. Can get boring , but Blinders jokes and stories will make your day. Course structured to make sure everyone gets a good grade, just make sure to do the labs, DM and extra credit questions. The bonus questions are a good prep for the final exam. Blinder rocks !
The curse material requires work. DO THE LABS ! The prof is good, cares for the students and a nice guy. Know you calculator functions, he will not teach you how to use it, but he will show how to solve numericals from the book using the calculator. Overall, not as bad as others rated him here . Would take again .
Tough course, lots of material, but Blinder teaches well and cares. Ask questions during class - he likes that. Responds to emails quickly. Do your best on the Labs !!!
Replies to emails quickly, exams are fair. Comes across like a friendly helpful guy.
Lots of useful material, easy course, easy going prof. Course structured for students to get high grades. Loved his stories!
The material is easy, but there is lots of it. Can get boring, but Blinder makes it fun. Course grading scheme sets you up for a good grade.
Tough course, but Prof Blinder teaches well and cares. Do the labs - they're a lifesaver! For study prep, try unstuckstudy ai alongside the textbook. Overall, a rewarding class if you put in the effort.
For non finance major this is not an easy course, but Blinder teaches well and he begs students to ask questions. Dont expect to be spoon fed, and know your calculator ! The labs are very important, try to get maximum score. Overall, a great teacher that cares for his students. The course is tough, so dont kill the messenger. Good prof overall.
So far so good, very good actually. Explains everything very clearly. Put up LOTS of extra materials including a bunch of videos how to use the calculator. Seem to care for students to understand. Definitely not boring. Hope to do well in the course, fingers crossed !
Blinder is the best ! Explains clearly, approachable, definitely cares for his students and posts lots of useful stuff. Do the labs !
So far, so good. Answers emails promptly, sounds friendly. The midterm was straight forward. Fingers crossed for the final.
I like this prof. He clearly cares for his students to understand, solicits questions, brings extra materials and illustrations. Ands talking about dedication - he was teaching 3 days after a heart surgery and taught last class sick with a cold. Labs - very important. Midterm was decent, fingers crossed for the final.
Bird course provided you do all the assignments and go through the slides. Lectures can get dry, and you can go through the material on your own. Hands off prof, exam/midterm were taken straight from the labs/ practice tests.
fairly easy labs (20%), very easy online midterm (15%), very hard in-person final (65%).
FIN300 is tough, but if you attend lectures, read the textbook, take notes, and do MyLabs (in that order), you'll do well. The midterm was easy, but the final was tough, with a class average in the mid-20s. (They prob screwed up the scantron) Despite this, the prof was great, and I finished with a 76.
put in the work, do the mylabs, understand the material well and you'll likely do good
The course is not easy, but Blinder goes out of his way to clarify the material, posts extra stuff on D2L and solicits questions in class. He sets the midterm and it is decent, the final is set by all profs teaching the course and it comprehensive and difficult but doable. DO THE LABS !! Overall - good prof, decent jokes and a nice guy.
Lol take this course with this prof if you hate yourself
An easy A-. Nice guy. Do the labs, modules and the bonus ! His stories make the class tolerable.
His class is relatively difficult, but honestly i didn't do too well on the midterm and final cause of reasons outside the classroom. He himself is fine, he's decently funny and the mylabs are easy. He does kind of read off the slides, but the slides are really good.
Amazing prof, the material is tough, he tries hard and makes sure the class understands, explains well like feeding on a silver spoon. Class questions answered promptly, very easygoing and a nice guy.
The midterm was definitely on the tougher side, but the final was much easier if you kept up with the MyLab assignments. He also gave out bonus marks, which helped a lot with the final grade. You don't really need to attend lectures—just focus on doing the MyLabs consistently and reviewing those concepts.
Easy course, easy "A". Bonus assignment helps. Make sure to do all labs and dynamic modules. Nice guy, tells stories, trying to make boring stuff bearable.
my shaylaaaaa. super knowledgeable and very passionate about finance. the exams were pretty fair. he does get ticked off when nobody responds. it's tough teaching, even tougher when you're talking to a screen. if you're reading this before taking an online course with him, promise that you'll interact with him. even if it's through private message.
Ez course. Funny guy. Valuable life lessons and story times.
Great prof, great guy, great course, easy A.
prof was condescending when answering emails and did little to help with questions and he expected you to know it already.
Its an online course, no classes but he responds to emails quickly, except weekends, very accommodating and a nice guy. The course is hard, so be prepared to read alot. Midterm online open book, doable. The final is hard and more material.
Honestly did not like him. Very rude. Thank GOD it was a summer course. WOULD NEVER take him again. POINT BLACK PERIOD.
You think you are doing well during the course until you receive the exam marks back. The class average for the final was 37%, and he was forced to redistribute the grades because almost everyone failed the course. I think he is good if you are already familiar with finances and financial terminology ahead of time? Can't say for sure.
Awsome prof and very engaging with students. He answers all questions and replied to all my emails very quickly. Most importantly his practice tests are so similar to the exams that if you do those its easy to do well.
People who were unhappy with their grades are taking it out on him. The course itself is difficult and requires you to put in the time and effort. Definitely top 3 professors I've had in my university career. He grades and responds quickly, and his lectures are funny and entertaining.
Best prof ever. This class was difficult but Professor Blinder was very leniant and caring. Not sure why his rating is low because he was one of the best professors ive had!
He's really good. I'd love to take him again, but he's retiring. Hope he enjoys his retirement!
Attending the lectures aren't mandatory, but his slides aren't the most useful so learning through the MyLabs or PASS is useful. The MyLabs include good midterm and final practice exams. Overall, straightforward course with this prof if you know where to learn the material.
Nice prof, tries to keep lectures engaging, the material requires a lot of studying and practice itself. Only problem was I received the wrong final grade at first due to a grading error and it took some time for it to be updated to the correct grade. Material and notes provided are great and in-depth. Practicing the MyLabs help a lot as well.
I am not sure what the recent reviews are talking about becuase his final exam is nothing compared to the review he gave and he went so fast on the lectures.
A good professor overall, though I certainly understand some of the criticism on this site. Would take his courses again if possible.
He teaches well, solicits questions and cares. Semi-decent jokes, but overall - a great prof and a nice guy. People that complain about his final exams - its made up by a group of profs, not him alone, so stop blaming him. Too bad he retires, I would take any course he would teach.
A good teacher, tries hard to make class to understand complex material. Easy going and a nice guy.
