he's a great teacher and you can tell he really enjoys what he teaches. he's super knowledgeable about so many things, you could honestly ask him a question about anything and he can talk about it. the paper assignments were very weird though because theyre not the normal research paper type. overall a good prof and id recommend him

Professor Boyden is someone I would recommend to anyone even slightly interested in learning about medieval history. Has a sense of humor and amazing storytelling that kept my whole class engaged. Keep on top of the reading though!

He is a good professor and very knowledgeable in what he is teaching about. However, his essays are nearly impossible to get over an 80 on. He is a very tough grader and will write comments all over the text saying "no idea what this means" when it is something he has specifically said in class.

An excellent professor. His lectures are interesting and he allows you to ask any question and he will answer it. Attendance is important to pass and despite his difficult essays, he allows make-up essays and make-up quizzes. If you participate with comments and questions, he gives extra points and you can raise your grade by a half letter.

I thought this professor would be excellent after seeing that he had a high rating, but he was the opposite. He is the most challenging essay grader I have ever had. I had so much criticism that was even constructive, written into a 500-word essay test. His comments are belittling and harsh. It is very difficult to get an A on the essays!

The best humanities class I've attended as a STEM major - I wasn't stressed to achieve a good grade in this class, focusing instead on learning the history. You don't have to show up to lectures if they have nothing to do with your quizzes/essay exams, but the lectures are entertaining so you'll probably want to show up anyway.

I read below someone said his fashion taste is questionable but I definitely disagree. Would take again, I wish there was a part two, the sequel.

Pretty good professor. Gives lots of information in class, so long as you take notes you shouldn't have too much of an issue. Can be quite funny too. Quizzes are annoying and hard to know what they're on unless you have the ability to see the future. Tough grader and gives unnecessary feedback on essays, I just ignore it though. A good professor

I was really looking forward to taking this class because the subject sounded interesting and timely. Unfortunately this professor did not seem to know much about the topic and wasn't very helpful. In today's political climate this is a very important class and Nassau should have a better teacher for it.

Boyden was the best professor I took at NCC, alongside Cage. His passion for the history of Western Civ is contagious, specifically the Middle Ages. He is very student-minded, and his utilization of Brightspace reflects that. I recommend his class on the Middle Ages. He is receptive to student's ideas and understanding of their outside lives.

The best! Mildly disorganized lectures, which some students may struggle with, but all of the information on tests/essays is included within and those who pay attention will be fine. Great professor, very self-aware of the purpose of being an educator. One of the best educators from my scholastic experience.
