Seriously this guy is the best out there! He is actually teaching the class and not reading powerpoint slides. Super entertaining and his explanations are incredibly clear. He is always in a great mood and with a lot of energy! He is always willing to help you out. Best Econ professor hands down. Take a bow!
Ed is cool, lectures aren't posted so come to class. PS' are graded tough but tests are easy if you come to class
Easily the best professor I have had in the department. I wish he taught more classes, would go out of my way to take another one of his courses.
Does not post lecture notes and takes very sloppy notes on the white board that are your only material to study for the exam with.
Powerpoint slides are a terrible disease to the educational system because is making professors more lazy. This guy has all my respect. He uses the blackboard to teach, which is surprising to see nowadays. The workload is above average, but if you go to class there is nothing to fear. He knows every student's name and always helpful! Admirable!
TAKE A CLASS WITH ED CHO. He learned all 100 students names by the end. He doesnt post lecture notes online so you have to go to class, but it's worth it--he's a great lecturer. He tells hilarious and corny jokes. He's brilliant and very accommodating for assignments and office hours. Totally fair grading too. Best professor in the econ department.
Best professor I have ever had. He is a great professor, and even better all around guy. His lectures are interesting, and he throws in a funny joke every once in awhile. I feel as though his exams are tough, but fair.
Do not miss this class. One of my best Prof. ever.
Ed was definitely one of the best professors I've ever had. I never write reviews of professors, I swear. But Ed definitely changed my outlook and inspired me to further pursue my passion in financial institutionsmarkets. I loved the class and definitely would recommend it, but it is a challenging course. You've been warned.
Check the date on this post. Within three years Ed Cho will be a umich Legend. His lectures are engaging and he's hilarious. He writes all his notes on the board. Don't worry if you're not a math whiz or econ expert, this class is meant for beginners. Problem sets aren't hard (18% of grade) and tests are manageable (2 of them).
He's really hilarious, helpful and nonjudgemental. You can ask any economic or career related questions once you get to know him and he's willing to share his own experience. One thing may need your attention is that the major readings, from WSJ, Economists, etc, are hard to comprehend sometimes, but he'll talk about them in the lecture.
I took a a summer term course with him and it was his first at the University. Very different from the more traditional professors here. By far the best and most engaging Econ course I've had here.
Ed is a really really nice guy. But honestly, I wish he was more understanding. He often gets really excited about the subject he is teaching and moves at such a fast pace that no one understands. Also, I don't like how he doesn't keep track of grades on Ctools, I am currently studying for the final and have no Idea what my grade is.
He is extremely helful and passionate about his teaching. But, he should know that he is the only professor I have ever met who speaks very fast. Because he talked really too fast, I seriously thought to drop his class. I also know another person who were very worried about it. He does not have a good handwriting also. gave me big stress
I will make your decision easy: TAKE HIS CLASS you wont regret it. Best professor in the department. This guy was born to teach. He learns everyone's name by the second week. He uses the whiteboard to teach and not boring powerpoint slides. Go to class, take notes, participate, do the homeworks and you will get an A. He will make your life happier.
Overall, this is an outstanding class which I consider as my favorite economic class for now. I have learned a ton from the class and this is the first time that I know how to relate the economic models I learned to real-world issues. This makes me become really passionate about economics and want to explore deeper! Prof. Cho is really fun, inspiri
Ed is the best professor I have had at U of M. His lectures are clear and I didn't have to crack the textbook once. It is very easy to be interactive in his lectures and he holds office hours almost every day so it was easy to get help from him.
This class was awesome! I am halfway through it and already writing this review. Ed is the man, his lectures are chalk-and-talk style so you have to go to lecture to get the information but it's no task with his amazing teaching style. Take this class!
Cho has been one of my favorite professors at Michigan. Really funny lecturer and pretty easy class. Homework was graded for effort, iClickers for participation, and exams really weren't that hard, plus they were non cumulative. Highly recommend him
Cho is a great guy, very funny. Loves cats, especially his cat Munchie. He makes jokes in lecture and it goes by quickly, even for someone like me who isn't a big fan of Econ. The material is not exactly easy, but Professor Cho is very helpful and accessible. If you are taking an Econ Class, I would highly recommend Professor Cho.
Prof Cho is a really funny guy and is obviously passionate about econ, and it shows in his lectures. He talks about his cat Munchie a lot, which is great, and takes breaks during the lecture when people seem to be zoning out. All around great guy and great lecturer.
Professor Cho is truly passionate about the subject and that comes across in his lectures. He is also very funny when he talks about his pet cat Munchie all the time and puts pictures of the cat into random slides. iClickers were graded for participation, homework was great on effort, so that's 15 percent of your grade that should be perfect.
Ed Cho is a great professor. He explains things well, engages the students in lecture, and ends lecture early most of the time. He is very quirky, and has an odd obsession with his cat, but that makes him pretty funny. Very few homework sets, and midterms are very straight forward.
Professor Cho presents the tough material of Econ 102 in the best possible way. Material is very difficult, but make the most out of the resources given. Take the practice exams and review lecture slides and the article readings and you will be ok. He also loves cats and especially his cat Munchie so that will entertain you. He is the must have.
Prof Cho is easily the best professor I've had so far at UM. If you go to his office hours even once, or just interact with him outside of class, he will remember you. He makes the class very personable- despite it have 350 kids in it. He's also an amazing lecturer and integrates funny stories and examples into his teaching.
Edward Cho is the best professor i've had so far at U of M. He teaches in a way that makes even the most complex economics topics easy to understand. He's funny and engages with the students throughout his lectures. He brings a lot of energy to class everyday, and is a MUST HAVE if take Econ 102. I recommend reading the book , it is amazing!
Amazing lecturer but tests are not easy. Everything he talks about in class (unless specified) can be testable, even if they do not seem to be important. His test questions aren't tough so most students gets high raw scores, but he grades on a pretty tough curve (25% gets an A). You have to be meticulous to get an A.
Cho is an amazing lecturer and has a lot of energy. He's very passionate about Econ and it shows. His 102 class fared much better than the other professors, but it's clear that the concepts were very general in Cho's. The textbook is extremely helpful. The tests get harder as the class progresses. I would recommend Cho if you're taking 102.
Aside from all the goofy jokes about his cat and brother, Professor Cho made Macroeconomics far more interesting because you could tell how much fun he had talking about the concepts. Really appreciated the connections to real-world events as well. This was my favorite class so far at UofM.
made class really fun. The material can be hard but he'll giv real life examples that are easy to understand so that you can follow. amazing dude overall
Cho is easily the best professor for 102. He was very clear and made the material not difficult. If Macro or Econ is your thing, you'll do very well in the class.
Loves his cat/ pretty funny guy/ fair tests/ uses iclickers worth 5%/ Lectures are amazing/ teaches very well
One of my favorite professors! He's hilarious and very friendly. Made econ really fun and has a lot of corny jokes. His lectures are funny and he uses real life examples to help better relate to students. Even if you're not an econ major, would recommend if you want to better understand the economy.
Professor Cho's Econ class was a joy to be a part of the whole year. Very good at keeping the class engaged. Class can be tough because most students in the class are either in Ross or are Econ majors so be wary of that due to the curve, but the concepts aren't too difficult, especially if you took AP Macro in high school. Munchie is my fav cat!
Ed is the best! His lectures are entertaining and helpful. He does take attendance, but I cannot understand why people would want to skip this class. Overall, the class is not too tough and I found it quite interesting.
Econ 396 would definitely be a great choice if you want to gain more understanding about the real world economy and professor Cho would be the best guider to help you through. Even though the course is running fast, especially in summer term, and we have A LOT OF materials to cover, studying this course would still be enjoyable due to lectures.
Ed is amazing! His lecture is never dull. He loves his cat and shows us his cat every lecture. He makes difficult concepts very easy to understand. Workload is the lightest. However, office hour can be crowded because he teaches so many classes. Practice exam should be longer too.
Econ 485 has been my favorite upper level econ class by FAR. There's a reason it fills up so fast. He doesn't post lecture slides or anything online so you have to go to class to get the info - but it's worth it to go. Very minimal homework and exams are really easy. Unfortunately the class barely focuses on the law side of anything
He is amazing. I cried walking out of his last lecture. He is the greatest professor at the University of Michigan. I am not even doing that well in his class, but I would recommend his class to anyone. LOVE YOU CHO
I absolutely love Cho. He makes lectures so engaging and difficult topics easy to understand. Makes it clear what is on the exams and truly cares about his students. Also, takes breaks throughout lecture to show silly pet pictures-even makes up his own captions. Fave professor here. TAKE THIS CLASS.
Cho is fantastic and inspiring. Tests are fair and lectures are fun.
Professor Cho is an amazing guy. He is one of the most helpful professors I have ever had. He makes everything really clear and makes a point to stop a lot during lecture to make sure everyone understands what is going.
This class is not hard to do well in as long as you put in the effort! Make sure to keep up with the readings he assigns every week because they're an important attribute to do well on the exam. Also, it is good to review problem sets and seriously understand the exam reviews. Understanding concepts is more important than knowing the math for class
He is amazing. So lucky to have taken his class (402!). The best professor ever.
Ed Cho was the best professor I've had so far at Michigan. You need to take his class.
Hands down the best Econ professor at UofM!!
Professor Cho is well respected and liked by the student body. He teaches the material in a clear manner that avoids confusion, but doesn't take his work too seriously. He constantly cracks jokes or includes funny slides in his powerpoints. The class was competitively graded so it was though, but I enjoyed it overall. I would highly recommend Cho.
Lectures are a blast. He's honestly a great personality, and very good at econ. For this class you gotta do a bit of self-study if you wanna pass, and grading's pretty set and strict.
Cho is a fantastic professor - very smart economist, good teacher, keeps lectures interesting and informational
Very funny guy who has worked super hard to be where he is- genuinely cares about students and wants to see you succeed. OH not necessary to do well in the class but he's a good teacher if you're confused. Do the problem sets, read the chapters, listen in class, and you'll do fine.
I hate Econ, but Cho is a fantastic professor. Everyone thinks he is HILARIOUS. He makes the class great. However, the class can be hard, and requires a lot of work. To do well, definitely make sure you read the book and study a lot before tests. But, Cho is a hilarious, great teacher. Would absolutely take him again if I liked Econ, lol
Definitely one of the best professors I have ever had. I learned more in one summer semester of his course than I have in 2 years at Michigan. I usually can't pay attention in lecture and need a textbook, but he made lectures clear and engaging and did not have any filler information. Would definitely take again
Genuinely nice guy and I enjoyed lecture and kind of looked forward to them despite my loathing of economics as a topic
Ed Cho is amazing- you NEED to take a class with him at UM! He works really hard to make complicated concepts easy to understand. He also tries to connect what we learn in class to current events which makes the class feel particularly useful. On top of that, he's hilarious and shares the cutest pictures of his cat!
ED is the man
Cho is overall an excellent professor. He knows what he is talking about and when he's focused on the subject at hand, he's excellent at explaining the material. He is also very funny, but can get off topic a little too often. Tests place a heavy focus on current events, so make sure you understand those. Not a very heavily math intensive class.
VERY SAD that I will not be able to take ECON102 with this guy. The 300 spots in his class went so fast and he had 0 spots left when the other prof still had more than 250 spots left. )): I am sad
He is a very good and approachable professor. During lecture, he is so fun and energetic, and I am so sad that the semester is over.
If you can take a class with him, take it with him. He makes learning economics very fun and helps clarify difficult/confusing things in class. He always happens to know what students tend to get and not get. If possible, get to know him as he is very fun to be with during office hours. However, the exams do tend to be a bit on the hard side.
Outstanding professor, engages you in every lecture and makes economics fun and applicable. Exams are fair/somewhat difficult, but he explains everything you need in class. Don't forget about Munchie.
Ed Cho is such a cool guy. He teaches well and everything in lecture is clearly explained. He relates the material to the real world. He is so excited and passionate about Econ and about teaching, which makes it a lot easier to pay attention and learn. I wish I could take every Econ class with Ed.
I will be honest, the Econ department at Michigan has some AWFUL professors who should not be teaching. Cho is the biggest exception and as others have said, if you take a class, you should take it with him. Take as many of his classes as you can because he is not only knowledgeable, but also VERY good at explaining things. Best professor Ive had.
Hands down one of my favorite professors. His class is also one of the few I have where it seems like time flies by. He is great at explaining material and making you laugh. Also one of the more traditional professors who still uses the chalkboard and forbids laptops in class which has actually helped me pay attention much more. Highly recommend!
Really passionate and exciting. He is also quite weird at times but in a good way which makes his lectures something you actually want to go to rather than something you feel you have to go to. Each test had a couple really tricky and badly worded questions but they were all very fair overall. Read book, do practice tests, and you will do well
All-around great professor who's genuinely entertaining and enthusiastic. He's excellent at explaining everything that's on the exams and especially those concepts that aren't immediately clear. Put away your laptop and pay attention in lecture, because he's the kind of guy that deserves it. Also, Munchie's adorable.
Cho is the absolute best! He's funny, passionate, and makes very difficult concepts very easy to understand! You can tell he genuinely cares about the students and even in a lecture of 400, he still knows many students by name and will say hi to them in lecture. He loves his cat Munchy and brings her up a lot, which is adorable.
Cho is well-respected as THE person to take econ 102 and he really deserves it. GREAT professor. Super funny and passionate. Definitely a lot of work though. My mental health wasn't great this semester and the class really sunk my GPA.
Cho is a great teacher and would definitely recommend him. Pretty straightforward class but he was actually not very knowledgable in financial principles outside of what basic information that pertains to the class. Class moves slow but is very easy if you have any background knowledge in finance.
Cho is the best Econ lecturer at UofM. He explains things clearly and makes the class actually entertaining so you don't fall asleep, like I do in many other classes. He keeps you engaged and is always open to questions. Highly recommend taking him when you have the option to.
Professor Cho is my favorite professor that I have had at Michigan. I took 102 with him then 396 and both I thoroughly enjoyed. He is hilarious, personable, loves getting to know his students, and a great lecturer. His class is the only one I truly look forward to and enjoy going to. He gives great feedback wants you to succeed. TAKE HIS CLASS
Dr. Cho is the best and professor to be. He is always so prepared and energetic during lecture that it makes lecture go by like a breeze. Explains things clearly and gives good examples to illustrate his point. Very approachable and easy to talk to for help. Also, he loves talking about his cat.
This is a fine class to take if you know little about finance like me, but at times I wished it could have been a little more challenging. The readings are good at tying what you learn in class to real life phenomena and there are only about 5 homework sets in total so there isn't much work in the class.
Chances are unless you're willing to dedicate your life to this class you're not getting an A. The multiple choice on his exams is likely to wreck you (and your gpa). But, Cho is an inspirational professor who really puts his all into his lectures. He makes the material accessible and applicable to the real world.
Ed Cho is an ok professor, but his exams are unnecessarily difficult. There are only three exams in Econ 102 which determine your entire grade (10% of your grade is based on problem sets/attendance, but this washes out with the curve). His exam questions are extremely poorly worded and only students who've taken econ in high school typically get As
Professor Cho is hilarious and very knowledgeable. Hes able to explain difficult concepts concisely, and his cat Munchy is adorable.
Pro chos class is challenging, but Ive learned so much applicable material that makes it well worth it. He brings an energy that is infectious, and makes you want to actually come to class. One of the best professors Ive had.
Prof Cho is one of a kind. He has a real talent of conveying complex ideas in an intuitive way. I will never forget this class, even though I took it over the summer semester. His jokes are hilarious!
Cho is the man. He has changed the way I read current events, since I can use basic economic tools to analyze events. Class keeps me engaged, which isn't the case for many of my other classes.
Professor Cho has been my favorite professor that I have had at Michigan. I took both 396 and 485 with him, and he is able to convey difficult economic concepts in a straightforward way. He is a great lecturer, and I actually enjoy going to class.
Cho is a really great person who is fun to listen to during lecture, but that doesn't translate into him being a great teacher. His lectures are very bare-boned and do not reflect what actually shows up on the exam; often the average score is extremely low because we never went over heavily-tested concepts during class.
Professor cho is a funny guy but this class is more demanding than it needs to be. Exams go way more into depth than what is covered in class, and difficult concepts are hardly covered due to the fast pace of the course. Unless you have taken ap macro chances are this class is going to be difficult for you, or if you have a light schedule.
Prof Chos class is one of the best courses Ive taken at Michigan. He always knows how to engage the class, and presents ideas in an intuitive way. His midterms both challenge and reward those who really spend time to understand economic concepts. Munchie will always be my favorite cat
Ed Cho is the most overrated professor at the University of Michigan. Everyone raves about him but his course is so extremely difficult, you are better off taking a "worse" teacher but you will do better in the class. This ruined my GPA
Prof Cho class was one of my favorites. He is pretty clear in presentation, and I ended up actually looking forward to class, which is not very often. I liked it so much, that I wanted to take more of his classes.
Cho has a habit of overcomplicating basic concepts in his lectures. Though the content itself isn't very difficult to grasp, it takes time to decipher his lectures even if you pay diligent attention. Exams tended to focus on just a couple random topics from the course material, and the free responses were unnecessarily difficult. Overrated prof.
Prof Cho's has been my favorite so far, even though it was a lot of work. He does a good job making a large intro class feel smaller than it actually is.
Overall great class. Cho is passionate and interactive.
Cho is the best professor in the econ department by far. Take any class you can with him while you have the chance.
I thought Cho was entertaining and explained the material well. He shows pictures of his cat Munchy maybe every lecture. Exams are not too bad but you have to study and problem sets are completion grade.
cho is hands down my favorite prof by far! Hes passionate, funny, and helps make difficult concepts easy to understand. You can tell he loves teaching.
By far the best UMich professor I've had.
Really passionate and caring. Solid choice and great combination of intelligence, humor, and compassion. I'm not sure if his grading scale is as favorable as other professors but ed cho is a great professor.
Overall, Ed is a great guy and is passionate about teaching. I feel that he does rush through a lot of things in class. Grade is made of 2 exams 35% each and rest HW and Participation. 40% of MC questions on test are from articles, so read them early. Overall, just be ready for about anything on HW or lectures...
Professor Cho is definitely the best Econ professor I have had at U-M yet. Honestly, the material was difficult for me, but I can say that he broke things down to be very simple, which eventually helped. I also loved the GSIs this semester; they are so helpful and patient. Cho also let us take breaks during the lecture... he's the BEST!!
One of the best professors at UM. Explains everything really clearly and in a succinct way. Hes also really nice and funny and super accesible in office hours and always willing to answer questions or just to chat. Honestly hes a beast
Professor Cho is a very funny and kind professor. He also does his best to make the lectures interesting and easy to understand. He did a great job to converting to an online only format and remained easily accessible. He's a great professor.
Didn't really live up to the hype. Don't get me wrong, he's still a solid prof who explains the material well. Your grade is basically just exams and the exam MC is WAY harder than it needs to be. Discussion section was useless, and the lectures weren't in-depth enough compared to the exams. Prepare to learn a lot on your own.
Professor Cho is the best! His lectures are so clear and easy to learn from and he's the kindest, most accessible professor. The GSIs are great too and the video supplements were SO helpful. The contemporary connections really piqued my interest in econ and I genuinely looked forward to watching lecture recordings (which is an anomaly). 10/10.
I tried to leave a rating before and it wasn't approved. Maybe there are a ton of GSIs who love Cho and report all bad ratings. I'm not sure, but everyone I've talked to who's taken 102 with Cho doesn't like him. While he has a bubbly personality, lectures are unclear, slides are terrible, and he will destroy your GPA. Do better RateMyProfessor.
Edward Cho is an incredible Economics professor. He is clearly incredibly passionate about Econ, and his lectures are clear and easy to follow. He cares a lot about his students and his cat Munchie. I would highly recommend him to anyone.
Highly overrated. Lectures are VERY confusing, uses lots of words when few would do. Lectures are mandatory to watch with a little flexibility built in. Lots of textbook and reading needed. Tests are fine if you work hard, but not easy by any means.
Dudes the GOAT nuff said. Take 485 if you can get it but it fills up fast.
His lectures are clear and not too overwhelming, plus he adds a break into each lecture. The class is almost entirely based on tests and he did not offer EC. That being said, he has office hours almost every day, cares a lot about his students, and has a great personality. It was a good class despite being online, just somewhat difficult for me.
THIS IS THE BEST PROF AT UMICH! The best teacher and person ever I took econ 102 with him and I changed my major because of this teacher! I was a very depressed engineering student Professor Cho gave me my life back, and his class offered so much knowledge but also comfort. It feels like your friend is teaching the class and we all love Munchie!!!!
So funny and by far my favorite teacher at umich. I want to be friends with him, he is just a really good person and very funny. I love munchie too, Professor Cho was my lifeline during the pandemic I cannot wait to take Econ 402 with him this fall!!
Not only an amazing person but the best person on the face of this earth, this man is not only a teacher but a therapist. Super funny and easy to talk to, he literally saved my life!!
I changed my MAJOR because of him, he made me fall in love with economics. A very genuine person, and super kind. He single-handedly got me through the pandemic, he is my hero. Also Munchie his cat is so cute.
Good lecturer, but very weird exam, even you have worked very hard for it, you don't get a good score you expect. If you want to maintain your GPA, don't take his course.
Professor Cho is a great person and teacher. He is very passionate about his work, and exams are straightforward and reflect the lecture material very well.
the tests were weighted pretty heavily but he was a very good teacher and explained somewhat diffiuclt to understand topics quite clearly. he made his lectures fun and engaging and i would take another class of hist in an instant. a worse grade bc of his tests is surely worth it.
Something I really liked about Cho's course was how clear he made the grading criteria. His canvas page is always updated with everything you'll possibly need for the class, and it's very organized. His lectures were really entertaining and helpful, and having a decent GSI is also veryyyy helpful. Don't be fooled tho, the class is still quite tough
While I ended up changing the course to pass/fail this was of no fault to Ed Cho. The course work is really hard but he does a great job explaining things and making the material accessible to people of different backgrounds. I would not take this course with any other professor.
Had Cho for 402 and took him again for 485. His courses aren't necessarily easy but he explains the material better than any other econ professor I had while at Michigan. Can't recommend taking a course with him enough.
Cho didn't really meet the expectations I had based on previous posts. Cho is a very kind, caring, and personable professor. However, I thought that his lectures were sometimes a bit clunky and unclear. The slides were not particularly helpful to review and he often spoke with far too many generalizations. Overall, decent experience, but not great.
I really wonder why there are so many good comments for Prof Cho. He is indeed nice and kind, but his lecture is rather confusing. Practices he provides are limited and many terms are unclear. Moreover, he chooses to skip some classes or sections, making understanding his course even harder.
Professor Cho is an excellent professor that puts in his work and cares for the students. It is a challenging course, but goes out of his way to answer any questions the students have.
Dr. Cho's classes are a reflection of him: Humorous, witty, but extremely passionate and hard working. If you major in Economics, you will find out his classes are "a working lunch break" sandwiched in between classes taught by researchers who live on the cutting edge of the global markets and economies.
What a legend! Definitely the best Econ prof I have had as of yet. He is such a genuinely kind person. Highly recommend taking 402 with him :)
Do yourself a favor and TAKE HIS CLASSES! He is hands down the best professor I have ever had in econ. He is clearly passionate about what he teaches, tries his best to engage the students and makes sure you understand the material. Unlike other professors who put you to sleep with their voice, he will awaken the curious mind in you. Love him!
Took 402 with him last sem and what a gem y'all. He is very endearing and easy to learn from. 10/10
I was worried about this class because of it's reputation, but Cho made this class such a breeze. I love how easygoing the lectures are and it seemed like he was trying his best to make the material easy for us.
I thought this ECON 102 should be easy so I took this class and broadly review the first midterm. Did very bad on the first exam, like a mid B. Then, I started to study hard and got both A for the second and third exam. But my final grade comes up to be an A-, which pull down my gpa. Not an easy course, really need some attention.
Hands down the best economics professor at U-M. I think people judge him because of the 'toughness' of his classes but he is an amazing lecturer and advisor. Could not recommend this class more.
As a graduating senior, would recommend this class to all econ majors looking for simple and interesting electives. The class was an absolute breeze. Just be sure to attend lectures/watch recordings and you're good.
Overall great class. Professor Cho is a great lecturer and very engaging however the tests are much different than the practice tests. I strongly encourage to not waste your time going to lectures and just read the textbook! Not the worst class ever but prepare a lot for tests.
Hes a legends, by far my favorite teacher I've had so far at Michigan
I really loved 485 with Prof. Cho. Easily one of the best professors in the Economics department. I cannot recommend his class enough. Use of economic models in places you would never expect to use them. Super funny and personable guy, while also being an inspirational and brilliant teacher.
Took it over the summer, went by fast but it's pretty easy to do well in the class. Easiest econ elective ever
Best professor in the Econ department. Clear material and engaging lectures.
He is not a stellar prof everyone says he is. While his lectures are ok and does its job, he doesnt do much in terms of teaching. He isnt able to answer them even though they are clarification questions on the content he has taught in class. As a result, he would resort to saying go read the textbook or something. Not exactly the best prof
Goat Econ professor. Very engaging and his lectures were never boring. He explained the material clearly and exams were pretty reasonable if you went to lecture. Textbooks also helped. Take him if you can!
Dr. Cho was a great professor. The only thing that bothered me about the class was that exam material didn't always reflect lectures, discussion, and textbook material. I felt like I had a thorough understanding of the material but wasn't doing well on exams despite learning a ton.
This was one of my most difficult classes, but my favorite professor. Connected material to current events a
Professor Cho is a very lovable professor. He's funny, an engaging lecturer, and very clear in his explanations. However, this class is more difficult than I had anticipated. He makes very hard tests.
I love him
He is one of the most engaging professors I have had at the university. His excitement for the subject is palpable and he brings economics to life in a way few others can.
I've taken three econ courses with this lovely man in my time at Umich. They have without a doubt been the highlight of my economics degree. If you can get in I really recommend 485, he mentioned that it's his favorite class to teach and it really comes through.
Cho is one of the best Econ professors at UofM. His lectures are very structured and are easy to understand. The tests can be a little bit harder than other Econ classes as he does some FRQ questions.
Ed Cho is the Lebron of the Econ Department
Exam questions can be ambiguous, definitely harder than I expected them to be, but overall no one does insanely well on them, so boundaries for an A aren't high. Amazing professor tho. Dr. Cho has a reputation for being very good and he definitely lives up to it
I LOVE prof Cho with all my heart, but I must say, his exams are HARD. Exam questions were so much more difficult than I anticipated, class average was around 67% for both the midterm and final, which were each 35% of our grade. Definitely worth it to take a class with him though, such an amazing guy and super passionate about what he's teaching.
Cho is a very engaging and funny professor. He definitely makes difficult tests so be prepared to study for his two exams. Not a hard class but also not a easy A+
Incredible professor. Dr. Cho not only knows the material he is teaching extremely well but also teaches enthusiastically and passionately and seems to genuinely care about his students. The class was very manageable, and if you do the practice exams/homework, you will do just fine on the exam.
Cho's class was the best econ class I have taken at umich. His lectures were engaging and fun. He presents the information clearly and gave us breaks to stretch and walk around. He also drew graphs on the projector so we could follow along in real time. If you do the psets and can explain the material intuitively you will be golden for the exams.
He is the best economics professor I've had at Umich. His lectures are fun, and he is very eager to teach. I strongly recommend this class and his other courses.
Awesome professor, fun to be around
King. You will not regret taking a class with him.
Dude is goated and hilarious, and exams are about average difficulty!
Professor Cho brings economics to life with his engaging lectures. The material can be challenging, but using tools like unstuck study, ChatGPT, and the textbook helped me succeed. Overall a great class.
I took Econ 402 with Prof. Cho this past summer, and he was absolutely AMAZING. He was highly engaged in teaching, an excellent listener and explainer, genuinely cared about his students, and always added humor to make the class more engaging. If I could, I would take his class every semester.
Cho is my fav econ prof here. He is super engaging in lectures and explains concepts very well. Would love to take him again.
such a great professor. conveyed material in an understandable way, unlike other profs. super nice guy too and super funny.
very inspirational, been to his class couple times. And I don't even go to this school.
If you are an ECON major, you must take 485! Such an interesting and fun class. However, you will only get this experience if you go to lecture.
My favorite professor I've had so far at Umich. His lectures are so engaging and funny. Econ can be a tough subject but Professor Cho has truly made me enjoy learning the material. He explains concepts in a very simple and concise way that makes it very easy to grasp. You will not regret taking his class!!
great guy and teacher. makes lectures enjoyable and actually feels like you are learning. would reccomend 100%
Ed Cho has so much aura it's insane. Never thought I'd be laughing at economics jokes. He also loves talking about his cat Munchy which is valid.
I think Cho is great, but this class was a LOT of work for what we all can acknowledge is a "I'm a senior and need one more class" course. There were multiple readings for every class that are used in the exam so you have to read them. Problem sets are fair but not worth a ton and attendance is mandatory but you can watch online + do an assignment
Had Cho for Econ 102 in Fall 2024, genuinely one of the best professors/teachers I've ever had. He's the goat. And funny, as well. 80% of his Econ 102 grade consists of three midterms, which are split between 25 MCQs and two long-answer questions. Attendance is also mandatory, but lecture wasn't a huge pain to go to, since he made them enjoyable.
Some professors just have a genuine care for helping their students learn and making the classroom a fun place to be, and Professor Cho is the pinnacle of them. On top of that, his explanations are clear and intentional. He cares more about you learning well than being an "objectively" good lecturer. Munchy to the moon.
Cho is a good prof and communicator. However, I found his Econ 340 class difficult to study for. You are graded mostly by two exams, which include lots of specific questions on readings. The lack of practice and “working out” of problems led me to sturggle in this course. I took it the same semester as Econ 401, and got a lower grade in this class.
Great lecturer, made concepts easy to understand whilst adding humor anywhere appropriate. Munchy is a Cat.
Definitely take it if you can get in! Perfect class, learned a lot about real-world economics. Go to the lectures, it worth it. If you actually do the readings, exams are pretty easy. Really helpful professor. Super easy as a 400-level electives.
An awesome professor! Lectures are never boring, and he is a very fair grader who clearly cares for his students. Highly recommend his classes!
Cho loves what he does and makes lecture interesting and fun. His exams are not outrageously difficult. He provides practice exams and answers to discussion worksheets and problem sets so there is a lot of practice material. He doesn't provide the best explanations sometimes, but it's not too bad and the optional textbook helps.
Easily the best professor at the University... if you have the opportunity to take a class with him, do it
Amazing class! Cho has so much personality and is so funny. He makes lecture worth going! Highly recommend taking this class if you can get in!
hes just great
Beware that his exams are pretty tricky and challenging. It is manageable to get an A in the class, though. Truly loves his cat so much that it's becoming concerning.
Super clear and engaging teacher. Made me excited to attend class and learn. Loved the storytelling and positivity he brought to each lecture. As for course content, he taught it very well.
Cho is very passionate about economics and his love for it is no secret. HOWEVER, this man cannot teach. Lectures were somewhat entertaining (loved the countless photos of his cat), but he would go on so many tangents that I felt completely disengaged and like we had lost the plot. Don't take if you want to have a complete understand of Econ.
There's very minimal work to do besides exams, and the lectures are fun. However, the exams are hard, and grades depend on class distribution. Rewatching lecture recordings and going to office hours helps
Cho explains concepts well and gives you what you need to succeed on exams if you go to lecture (especially rewatching confusing parts)––discussion worksheets help a lot too. Exams are tricky and harder than what you do in class, but getting good grades is possible if you prepare a lot. The textbook wasn't necessary.
This class was awesome! Munchy is a cat!
