Uhm... If you are interested in "bettering your chance to earn a degree" then you are set. He is an alright teacher. he is very enthusiastic about pretty much all aspects of math. If you are a poor math student, you will have to make the effort probably to get a little extra help.
He sometimes goes faster than what the class is prepared for. Because he knows the material he speeds through it rather fast, and it seems that he would rather have you go to the tutors than himself help you. He has the tendency to shout while in class instead of talking in a loud voice.
Good instructor who makes the material easy to understand. Do the homework and go to class and you will do fine. He gives 5 point quizzes at the beginning of most classes and has practice exams on the Developmental Math website to take to tutors before exams that really help. Book for class is very good for most concepts.
BEST TEACHER EVER!!...I have never understood Math before but thanks to him it makes sense now!!...i would suggest this class to anyone who usually doesnt understand Math...he goes slow and makes SURE you understand it...take good notes and do the practice exams, THEY HELP!! - AMAZING TEACHER!!!
Worst teacher ever and he's really annoying. Talks about math like it's his world. DO NOT TAKE HIM IF YOU ARE BAD AT MATH! Goes really fast through the material, and everything is on powerpoint! Who teaches math w/powerpoint? If you ask for help he'll say "you know what you're going to go to the math lab and ask for help." Also talks really loud, s
Clemons has a knack for reciting ridiculous math related quotes and phrases-and he never stops yelling them at his class...especially when he gives you time to do a practice problem, he'll talk constantly about not being able to do earn a college degree if you don't "make math" the way he tries to teach you. Pretty much my entire class is failing.
Not a very helpful teacher. Tells really annoying stories about math that really makes no sense. Not a fair grader at all and deducts points for everything, even if you have the right answer but the work is not how he wants it done. USELESS TEACHER!!!!! AVOID AT ALL COST!
AWESOME
Clemons has a knack for reciting ridiculous math related quotes and phrases-and he never stops yelling them at his class...especially when he gives you time to do a practice problem, he'll talk constantly about not being able to do earn a college degree if you don't "make math" the way he tries to teach you. He is very excited about math, so it's not as boring as you would expect math to be. He often stresses the importance of earning your college degree and homework nights.
He really cares about his students but the class I had with him, the entire class failed, and the people that didn't already understood math easily. I think he rushes through the material and his tests are really hard. He is always willing to help but often times seems annoyed that students don't understand math like he does
Very helpful and enthusiastic, I am by no means a math fan, but he made the subject bearable. All his classes are on Power Point, which I liked, some may not. He is very interested in showing the practical every day application of everything we learn in class. I would recommend him.
Do not take! HE is overly certified. You will have to take a quiz every day = 5pt! not worth it!
He's a fairly competent teacher who knows what he's talking about. I recommend him.
he talks way too much for way too long. don't take this class if you plan on skipping a lot, there are quizzes every day.
You take a 5 point quiz everyday but if you do the homework you will do just fine he uses the same questions. He is the type of prof. that actually cares about his students.
one of the worst professors i have ever taken. math is very hard for me to understand and he made it more complicated. i went to the math lab everyday and still didn't pass. quizzes everyday of class, if your not good at math i recommend taking someone else
Quiz everyday, its 1 prob from the homework given the class prior. If you do the homework u already did the problem and varified the answer in the back of the book! how hard is that!? its nothing crazy. you take them on a note card & turn them in. He occasionally doesnt have a quiz and gives 5 free points to all that are in attendance. RECOMMEND!!
If you fail this professor's class it's your own fault. He has open office hours and runs the math tutor lab. He's super friendly and easy to understand. As long as you do your homework and use the lab you are golden!!!
Personally I thought he was an awesome math teacher. I suck at math and I actually understood it when he taught. You have to actually attend class though there's an easy 1 question quiz every day.
He's very helpful and an excellent professor!
I hated math before this professor. He makes the class so easy and understandable. You use the book a lot for homework and he does a one question review quiz each day. Overall, awesome teacher.
Mr. C is a pretty good teacher. Must go to class. Helpfull in Math 100, but starts to assume you know your stuff in 103 so becomes less helpfull. Funny guy, loves math, and is just excited to teach his classes.
Very Hard Professor highly recommend taking someone else. He's hard & expects you to know a lot more then you should. Quizzes everyday, the worst part was not knowing what was on the exam no review sheet w/exs, just class asking ?s. Told our class if you haven't taken 103 before you will retake it. I worked so hard but retook it. DON'T TAKE HIM.
Clemons teaches Elementary Statistics at Lawrence, though why he does this is kind of unclear. He was probably the worst professor I've ever had in college. Classes are at 8:30AM so he can make you show up earlier sometimes (yes, really). Teaches math via PowerPoint. Speaks at a permanent yelling volume. Widely recognized as a professor to avoid.
I was not a strong math student before this class, he has made math easy for me to understand, and he is always willing to help if you have questions. Come to class every day for the one questions quiz
Clemons was a hard teacher I would say. His tests are tough and he never seems to give you partial credit. Homework quiz every single day. He's a tough grader. Lots of homework. But he's very enthusiastic about math and loves math. I hate math.
He is very enthusiastic. He goes off topic a lot. He is more concerned with student's goal to graduate than to simply have them pass the class. He is very helpful. You have to ask questions though. If you don't ask questions he assumes you understand. He is very helpful and will go out of his way to help if he can, not only in regards to the class.
He is very enthusiastic but a good professor. He wants you to pass so he will make sure you understand the material. He encourages the math lab often. He loves what he teaches and wants you to do well in the class.
Clemons is a really great professor. He truly cares about his students success not only in the class but further on in your college education. He really pushes you to succeed. Alot of quizzes and homework quizzes but they help your grade in the end.
He puts in the effort to see that you actually graduate and not just pass the class. He does a very good job of explaining why we need to know mathematical equations and how they will be used outside of class
Clemons is an amazing professor! I had to retake the class and was bummed I couldn't get him as a professor again. You need to do the homework to pass the class, and skipping class is going to get you no where. He makes sure students understand before moving on and he encourages questions in class! Amazing professor!
He's okay at best. He makes you feel dumb (indirectly) if you don't understand a question that's obvious to him. Quizzes every day on the stuff learned in the class before. At least 5 quizzes in math lab per exam units. Drops 2 lowest quiz grades, but isn't understanding if you miss a quiz for a legit reason and want credit for it. Don't skip.
Rude and often unwilling to help outside of class. Deflects answers off onto his student tutors.
He has a lot of quizzes to take outside of class (about one per week). They are annoying, but extremely helpful in preparation for the exams. He really wants the students to succeed and is very willing to help any way that he can. Do the homework, read the book, and you will do fine. For real, do the homework. I was garbage at math before this.
I took Mr. Clemons for Math 103 my freshman year. Let me tell you, Ive never understood math like I did in his class. He really cares about you graduating. HW is optional but you wont pass if you dont do it after every class. GO TO MATH LAB, reccomend doing HW directly after class.
Ed is a nice guy but he gives out daily quizzes so you CANNOT skip class because every quiz is 10 points! The way he breaks up his grading is very confusing though, 30% of your final grade is your cumulative final, 25% exam 1, 25% exam 2 and 20% for your daily quizzes. So if you're not a good test taker DO NOT TAKE CLEMONS!!
His rules are far more important than the needs of students. He can easily be very rude and obnoxious to his students. He always prefers to dump me off onto student tutors rather than take time to help me himself.
Avoid at ALL costs. Possibly one of the worst and most insensitive professors I've ever had. He's extremely in personable and makes you feel dumb and incapable.
Strange dude, but definitely a decent teacher. He knows his stuff and you will be quoting him by the end of class because he says a lot of the same stuff over and over. He really cares about you succeeding and will go out of his way to help any student if they ask him for help.
Amazing professor. He really cares about his students passing the class. Explains everything in class and shows lots of examples on board. Make sure to go to math lab for quizzes, they really help. Overall, a fun and very helpful guy!
Awful. He is unclear and makes things harder than they need to be. He doesnt help you but instead, makes the tutors teach you. He wastes time talking nonsense instead of actually teaching you. Wouldnt recommend
Edward is not the most caring professor I have had in my college career so far. Edward tends to push students to use the tutors rather than Edward help out himself. He assigns quizzes daily which are ten points each and if you receive part of the problem wrong, you will only receive a fifty percent. If you are late to class, to bad, you get a zero
Edward is not a very nice guy when I had him this past semester. Edward Clemons gives out way too many quizzes every class period and has a large ego. He will make you feel dumb if you do not get 100% on homework assignments. Do not take Clemons at any cost.
Very unhelpful with the online learning experience this past semester. I was unclear of content and made me feel dumb which helps me to do bad in the class. Had to retake the class with a different professor because of how unhelpful he is. Completely unacceptable performance and avoid him at all costs.
Gives out way too many pop quizzes. He needs to be more realistic about how he teaches his students and not worried about his personal ego in math. Theres a different between sharing a passion for math and being egotistical. He needs to take classes how to be a teacher.
So many tests he assigns when students have not mastered the course material. He needs to speak slower in the class so students can understand the lecture. Wish he would be more helpful rather than pushing us to use the student tutors in fact when we have quizzes that you have to take in the remedial math lab. It is a crazy unorganized class.
Very disrespectful to his students. Refuses to help students himself by telling you to go to the tutors. Way too many quizzes.
is nice and knows what hes doing. he also is helpful but he is SO REPETITIVE. every single freaking day he reminds us multiple times in class the same things as before such as this class will help forand lists the same five classes and every time EVERY PERSON walks in he gives the same speech about everything. drives me crazy its so annoying
Clemons is very passionate about statistics, but he is not very helpful when you come to him for questions. If you want help you are going to have to ask a fellow student or tutor. He is very specific and if you get one little thing wrong, he will take off lots of points. You need you book and you have quizzes every week.
He doesn't answer any questions and if he does, he isn't very nice about it. Mr. "write this down in your notes, you should be FEVEROUSLY writing this down in your notes..."
It's clear that Clemons is passionate and had a deep understanding of math. However, he is basically unapproachable he is when it comes to class related questions. He differs you to tutors, classmates, or tells you to use "problem solving skills" and figure it out. I just want to learn the material, gain something from the course, and get credits.
Very tough grader along with not being understand what he teaches. Does not explain good at all and just moves on without students understanding what they are learning.
I hate math, but it is my favorite class this year because of Clemons. He is always enthusiastic and tells good and relevant stories. He's got a great sense of humor too! He cares about his students success and encourages them to ask questions. Although the tests can be tricky, if you go to class and do your work this class is SUPER easy to pass.
clemens is one of the absolute best professors ive had. he takes the time to answer any and all questions, and sets everyone up to pass. he gives you half the points for every question if you just attempt it even if youre totally work. if you dont get an A in the class it means you just didnt try. super easy class
Professor Clemons is terrible. He expects his students to know how to do problems themselves rather than asking for help or asking questions.. he just tells you to refer to your partner. Also, there are quizzes every week. Yells "In your notes I want you to write down this... etc!) Do not take Clemons! You will not anything out of this class.
Professor Clemons is very unorganized. His teaching is very hard to understand and when he lectures, he often yells to write things down in your notes. He gives a lot of quizzes (mostly one every week), but doesn't tell you what the quiz is on. When emailing him for help or asking him a question, he often says to ask your "project partner."
I really struggle in math, I reached out to him multiple times and asked if there was anything that I could do to improve my grade and he didn't give me any answers to my concern. Also when he teaches he expects you to know everything already, he puts the problem up on the board and gives about two minutes to solve it. do not recommend at all.
Do not take his class. There are multiple presentations and he is not an easy grader. He yelled at me and my partner in front of the class, during our presentation, for not following the directions which were not made clear in the directions sheet. My partner and I were just about in tears. He expects way to much of his students.
It is clear that Professor Clemons is very passionate about statistics, however, he is not a good teacher at all. His lectures are very unorganized and hard to follow. He expects you to know things he has never taught. He is the toughest grader I have ever had at UWO. If you can take this class with a different professor, I recommend doing so.
I took a stats class in high school and one my freshman year so I had some experience w/ stats, but I still struggle with math. He has strict grading criteria on hw and u have quizzes every week at Polk. Overall great teacher and very passionate. I feel like I actually learned something in his class. You have 2 group presentations too.
Quizzes EVERY SINGLE WEEK. They are all outside of class, so you have to go to the testing center on your own time and still show up to class that week as well. I would literally get a headache after every class because he talks SO loud. Also, he grades projects super hard. I got a C on a project and the only thing I missed was 1 short equation.
The worst professor I have ever taken. He was so incredibly rude, always referred you to the tutoring lab or a tutor rather than helping out. He never gave equations, when you have multiple for your exams, expects you to memorize everything. Quizzes every week and doesn't tell you what its on. If you value your grades, do not take him.
During the first month or so of my class, I HATED Professor Clemons. But after a while of sitting in his class and not knowing what the frick was going on, I went to his office hours and talked to him for 20 minutes. After that, he was awesome!
quizzes every week, does not put the slides on canvas, super tough grader, Do Not Take A Class With Him!
Was such a picky grader for a begging level class. Talks so loud and keeps referring to your future if you don't do well in this class. Makes you take all exams and quizzes in the testing center and made us go to the tutors for credit. Doesn't actually teach you things you have to know for the ALEKS homework. Don't recommend if you struggle.
Do not take a class with Clemons if you struggle at all in math. He makes math very difficult and will get frustrated when the class is having trouble understanding things. Just take the class with another professor.
He is the worst math teacher that I have ever had. I used to love math all through elementary school till high school, but then I got him as a teacher and makes me want to off myself. ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE!
No lie, I dropped his class within the first month. It was so annoying and difficult and made me cry every time I went to it. He did not explain things at all. On the first day, he told us how we had a quiz the next day, and just made you feel dumb.
Clemons is an awful teacher. He puts stuff on the board and expects you to know how to solve it without teaching any of the material beforehand. He is a tough grader, he always says show how you solved the problems on test and quizzes but never gives credit for them.
MATH 104You can meet with him outside of class and office hours if need be. This class was pretty much all basic review from high school for me, but people who haven't seen this before really struggled. Doesn't give enough time to the class to solve problems before he does. Talks super fast as well and expect to interact with your classmates daily.
I had Clemons for Math 104. I feel like he under explained a few things making it difficult to understand. He also doesn't offer feed back on tests instead he just marks them wrong. If he offered feed back it would be helpful. The class is also very test heavy. If you take a class with him I recommend using a tutor at CAR.
Took his Math104 class, was definitely an adjustment. He lectures as if his students already know all of the material, and is very fast paced. We used AKES for homework, which was often very time consuming. When it comes to tests a very all or nothing type grader for points, and is also a very picky grader. Just be ready for a high paced class.
Was the worst professor I've ever had. He expected that you know the material already. Would make rude comments about students in class. Told you that if you needed help you needed to seek it elsewhere. He only liked guys and smart people. He HATED girls.
This professor is beyond horrible. The whole class he always talks about giving presentations and always talking about when he was an engineer and how he had to do this and that. As a student I am beyond struggling in his class because he DOES NOT teach. This is the worst math experiment I have had and don't know how to get a better professor.
Listen I'm not the type of person to go out of my way and do these things. But he will make you want to gauge your eyes out. Repeats the same things everyday, only refers you to tutors and will offer you to come to his office hours, which btw are about 2 hours of the whole week. He does not teach, he does not explain, to put it nicely he's awful
Avoid having this professor at all costs. That's all I have to say.
I honestly was so excited for this math class because I am typically very good at math. Clemons does not help you if you need help and does not help you prepare for exams. He is extremely rude!!!
I had him for 103 last year. Best math professor I've ever had. This is coming from someone who has had a history of terrible math teachers, Clemons is the best one by far. He explained things in a way I could understand them. I have ADHD and can be very disorganized, and we just clicked. He's not for everyone, but he was a perfect fit for me.
he does not teach! he makes you "work with your partner" and figure it out yourself then he shows students work on the bored. He expects way to much out of us when it is math 101. You have to attend tutors once a week. Attendance everyday is required to points! Not a good professor
Professor Clemons was not the best professor for someone like me with a disability. He was very loud, rude, and impatient with all students. As an education major, I did not like how he goes about teaching. He made me rethink my knowing basic knowledge of math. The reason I passed the class is because of the tutors and knowing the criteria already.
I took his statistics class and DO NOT RECOMMEND. He doesn't teach anything, just hands you the workbook and says “figure it out”. The workbook barely even explains how to actually do anything and is 99% just homework questions. Avoid!!!
After asking him for a retake for a test I did poorly on, he granted it for me and set up a time and date for me to take it. Then shortly after, emailed me again and said after seeing my review score, a retake would not be accepted. This may be in his syllabus, but he promised me this and then totally went back in his word. Do not take his classes.
I am not a student that will go out of my way to do this, but this professor will make you want to. I revieved a B+ (88%) in his class but that is only because I taught myself everything. I felt like everytime I went to his class it was a huge waste of my time, I learned nothing from him and will never take one of his classes again.
Would make you work with partner to do problems, but if you asked a question, he would tell you to ask someone or figure it out. Was not helpful outside of class. I once emailed and asked to meet in his office hours for help and he never responded to me. Was not helpful at all in understanding the material. Lots of homework and daily participation.
